Gold on the Riverwalk

By James B |

My wife and I stopped here during a weekend get away. We were so glad we did. The waitstaff was very helpful with the menu selections. Fast, cheerful service were accompanied by a delicious meal of ribs and surprisingly some of the best bread pudding I have ever had.

Left thirsty ...

By Andrea H |

- Watched most members of the staff have SEVERAL shots and drinks at the bar (including the manager) - Waited a long time to order - Waited a long time for our first drinks to be served - Waited for a really long time for our food (the food was mediocre) - Watched another customer complain to the manager about the length of time that they had waited for service, plus an error made on his bill. He was probably extremely frustrated because the staff is drinking within 5 feet from his table and should have noticed that he needed service. Then he had to make a loud noise in order to get their attention. The staff was actually ignoring all the customers!! - Observed the staff mocking the customer that complained: this was done LOUDLY in the middle of the bar. They were very animated and making fun of what the guy said, what the guy was wearing, and how he reacted. However, the customer was a completely normal person with completely normal expectations. The staff was even making fun of the guy's glasses??? WHY!?! This was absolutely ridiculous and appalling behaviour to watch being another customer. - We sat there without service ourselves. THIRSTY! Without drinks. I couldn't even finish my food because I was so thirsty and unable to get anyone's attention. We also became frustrated with this experience. - Note that I was THIRSTY and the participating staff members were NEVER without a drink. CAN YOU SAY IN DIRE NEED OF "BAR RESCUE"???? THE MANAGER WAS ALSO PATHETIC! He was no better than the employees and even worse because he could easily see what was happening. Although, in fairness he may have been too drunk to care. I am sure that the staff also made fun of us after we left.

Simple and Fast on the River

By EvoDocAdventures |

I love the character of Waxy's, from the bar shipped over from Ireland to the awesome choice of drinks and food. It is simple, straight forward, and fast right on the Riverwalk. I always make a point to eat here for lunch when I am in town and they really do have some of the very best burgers you can find. The prices are reasonable and the service has always been good. They get busy in the evenings, so prepare to wait if you come in late. Still worth it.

Great spot for a beverage.

By Joyflnoise |

We were looking for a place to grab a beverage near the River Walk. As we walked up to Waxy's, we were greeted by a friendly host who told us to sit wherever we liked. We found a spot right next to the walkway. Hubby ordered a Dos Equis on tap. It came out iced cold the way he liked it. I decided to try a regular margarita on the rocks. I was pleased with it. It was not too sweet or too sour. Our server, Chuck, was attentive and friendly. We were able to hear the live music outside too. Overall, we were very pleased with our visit and would recommend them for a beverage stop.

Great location for a drink or dinner

By jillsC2584XE |

We stopped here for a drink and to rest our feet. The outdoor seating had a prime view of the river-walk and allowed smoking. We had cold beer & wine and tried a few appetizers. Very good service.

Marginal Service

By rogerlambert2016 |

The bartender ignored me twice. The first time when I ordered a drink he was on his cell phone and I had to get his attention, just to order a beer. The second time I stood at the bar as he shot the breeze with a customer— I had to get his attention again to inquire about buying a T-shirt. He was very agitated that I took him away from his conversation with his friend. The waitress made it a point to ignore me every time she walked by me, even though my beer glass had been empty for over 10 minutes. Overall, the service was very marginal.

Great pub food and beers; wonderful bartender!

By fbglove |

We really loved the fish sandwich and bangers and mash... very delicious! Also, the potato and leek soup with Irish brown bread was great. Excellent beers on draft and we enjoyed a couple of Irish ones (Smithwick and Harp's). The bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly... really enjoyed her company and recommendations. We'll definitely return and recommend to others.

Very Nice Restaurant

By Thomas M |

Stopped for dinner here after our boat ride on the river. There were 6 of us and we wanted something different. We sat in the back area away from the noice. Our waiter was very helpful in helping us with the menu. My daughter ordered 6 different meals plus a large house and Caesar salad. We all ate “family style” sampling everything. We had the fish n chips, bangers and mash, beef stew, corned beef and Shepherds Pie.

Good Irish pub on riverwalk San Antonio

By patricia a |

I enjoyed this Irish pub on the river walk in San Antonio... They offer music and it was just fun.. My fries weren't warm enough and they corrected the problem immediately.. I would return.. Liquor price weren't as bad as some restaurants on the River walk

Good food on the Riverwalk.

By mtscribe |

Fine outdoor dining on the Riverwalk. Great service by Alex. The fish & chips were tasty, but a bit high priced at $20.

A pleasant break

By joanelmc |

We walked the short way from the Alamo. Sat and enjoyed the sounds of the water and people watching. The fish and chips were right on. Only had better in Scotland. A very pleasant lunch with good beer and music from the restaurant next door.

After work drinks

By Patrick O |

Always a good choice to have a cold one after work. Tiffany gives great service and the prices are just right. Love the curry chicken.

Crowded Irish Pub Knock-off

By Dennis_Dio_Parker |

My wife had Bangers and Mash (sausages and mashed potatoes), which she thought was very good. I mostly relaxed with a good cigar (we were on the patio) and a glass of fine Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon, but did finish off with a generous slice of their Irish cheese cake, made with Bailey's Irish Cream. That was certainly good.

Excellent meal

By mzgt500 |

We wanted something different than Tex mex so will went to this restaurant. We sat outside so we could watch the river and it was a great weather day. The food was excellent a lot of flavor and just the right portions

Pretty good

By meganmoss13 |

Husband and I went for lunch. Service was a little slow but food was pretty good. Nice to sit by Riverwalk

Great location - Lots of Fun!

By Tammy S |

This Irish Pub is a great place to visit while sightseeing on the Riverwalk. Great service, great drinks! Meet some wonderful people here and had a great time! It is conveniently located right on the Riverwalk and right across from the Omni Hotel. Perfect location. This place also stayed open later during the week than other establishments so it's absolutely perfect when visiting as your late night stop before turning in. We enjoyed this place and would certainly go back!

Change of pace from the usual Texas Fare

By TXRVer09 |

One can get Tex Mex any where in Texas. The River Walk has a truly different restaurant - Waxy O'Connor's Irish Pub, named after the wildly popular London Pub. And there is little difference - both outstanding. Course the fish and chips are a staple in Great Britain and here as well. Everything I have tried here has been a treat. I especially love the corned Beef cabbage. Highly recommend this change of pace for Texas.

Great food

By MIZT13 |

Irish bartenders who put the Belmont Stakes on the big TV so I could watch. Great service, potato leek soup, Reuben & off course Guinness......💚 my 🍀☘️🍀bars🍻

Big selection of beers

By Gloria B |

Good spot on the Riverwalk to people watch if you get a table outside. Wide selection of beers and some wines. The wait for drinks was short but there was trouble in the kitchen as the were backed up and we were warned that it would be 40- 50 minutes for food. As it was St. Patrick's Day weekend, we didn't mind and just ordered a second round. The Irish Beef stew when it arrived was delicious but cool. The backed brown bread with it was dark, dance and wonderful. The sandwich on a bun with cole slaw was okay. Great service in spite of the wait.

Week in San Antonio

By Gary C |

Group of friends had been here before and needed to reattach memories. There were 10 of us so seating wasn't real easy but we were able to squeeze around 2 tables. Had beers and scotch. Peanuts were on the table. Piano man singing songs like an in house jukebox and was entertaining. Extremely proud of the drink prices, so we only had one round and moved on to another Irish Pub to eat a drink.

Stay away from here

By jennifer b |

We asked to look at a menu and then were left standing and being ignored. Finally the hostess came back and seated us. There were 2 other tables of people outside and none inside. We waited 10 minutes for a waitress. There appeared to be 2 wait staff people who were standing around playing on their phones. We finally got up and left.

Nice choice along the Riverwalk

By Steve F |

Stopped here for a late dinner with work friends attending a conference. Outside tables are the way to go. It's soo nice to sit out along the Riverwalk. Our server was great; especially accommodating as we had several folks show up late and our group kept growing. Everyone liked their food and there was a good selection of beers too.

River walk

By paulshun1960 |

Black an tan to perfection. The bangers and mash was very good. The smoked salmon appetizer was also excellent. Also had a side of slaw, different than any I've had before but real good.

NIce place

By MargieMc22 |

I stopped here my first evening in San Antonio, sitting on the patio. Drinks were very good! I had the Guinness Stew, which was good but slightly salty. The brown bread that came with it was superb.

Worth a Stop on the Riverwalk

By Andrea F |

Friendly service, lots of cold beer on tap with inside and outside dining. The potato and leek soup was excellent and the fish sandwich was outstanding. Salads were just ok. Give it a try!

The Comforting pub down the road from home (while away from home).

By Katherine E |

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this place. Good live music, good convo and vibe, and the Friday night bartenders were great.

Great Live Music!

By traveltradealum |

It was a fun surprise to find an Irish pub in the midst of the tex mex world of the Riverwalk. Great draft beer and good pub food.

Comfort food...

By JaxMahan |

Seated quickly; friendly host. Waited on quickly. Jamison neat (good pour) and a dark and stormy (tasty). Guinness Beef Stew - Had a strange spice/taste to it. Waitress took it away gracefully. Shepherd’s Pie - Excellent. I shared my husband’s. Bread Pudding - Warm and very good, especially with extra whipped cream.

Great Riverwalk stop

By maxpaste |

We actually stopped here twice, because it’s so convenient and the food and drinks are great. They have outdoor tables so you can people watch along the Riverwalk. I was also impressed with the jar of pre made Old Fashions, which they use when it gets busy.

Irish Pub

By packers000 |

Had The Shepherds Pie and it was good. My wife had the Fish and Chips which was very good and a lot to eat.

Skip it

By kimw8too |

Flat soda for drinks, worst spinach dip I’ve ever had including the burnt cheese on top and stale chips. Skip this stop and move on down the River Walk.

Evening Meal

Intentionally Overcharged Credit Card!

By damdit |

CAUTION!! CAUTION!! DO NOT! DO NOT! DO NOT EAT HERE! MY CREDIT CARD WAS OVERCHARGED BY DOUBLE!! MY CREDIT CARD WAS OVERCHARGED BY DOUBLE! WHAT WAS DONE ON MY CREDIT CARD WAS THEFT & CRIMINAL PURE AND SIMPLE! After I called I was told that nothing would be done and hung up on! Incredibly rude horrible service! Did not get what I ordered! My credit card was overcharged double! I called and pointed what I ordered and the price on the menu. I was told that item was no longer available and was hung up on. I gave one star because I could not give less! To make matters even worse is the fact that the food was absolutely abysmal!

Must stop!

By Amber W |

Delicious food chili cheese tots were 10/10 as was the potato leek soup! Would definitely recommend this place. Service was excellent as well!

Worst ever

By ritu n |

If I had the option to just delete this place from google, I would. Staying in the US from the last 7 years I have never seen a restaurant manager so rude that I had to call on the cops. Just because my husband was waiting on a table since we were with our whole family, the manager (he is bald) comes and starts swearing on my husband! Out of no reason! And then he says he will call the cops. For what? For us waiting for a table to get cleaned so that the family can eat? And on that the audience there was so racist! Omg! I dnt know what is this world heading towards! Can’t rate food since I didn’t eat but can rate the manager- below zero!

surly wait staff -never got our food

By John L |

on a hot crowded night on the riverwalk we were pleasantly surprised to find a place where we could sit right away. However, it went downhill quickly. The busser never wiped our table down, and after a 45 minute wait we told the waitress to cancel our order. She yelled at us. We finally paid for the 1 drink we had, and left after being ignored for almost an hour. One bright spot - the singer was great.

Wonderful St. Patrick's Day Experience

By Don T |

We were in San Antonio on St. Patrick's Day and were looking for a place to get a corned beef and cabbage meal in honor of the occasion. We found this place and were able to get seating (it was somewhat crowded on St. Patrick's Day). The place is on Riverwalk but inside it looks like an Irish Pub straight out of Dublin, with high, dark, wood paneling and a friendly atmosphere. My companion ordered a Harp, which she got used to in Ireland, while I tried an Irish Red Ale that was fantastic! I ordered a corned beef and cabbage dinner which was very a generous-sized serving, but the corned beef was a bit cold. My companion had a Reuben Sandwich, which was huge, juicy, and -- according to her -- absolutely mouth-watering delicious. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very Irish, with an Irish tenor treating us to occasional songs. All in all, an outstanding experience, and next time we're in San Antonio we will definitely visit this pub again.

Understaffed,Undertrained

By Llanotraveler |

Let me begin by saying that my criticism of our service reflects more on poor management than the individual servers. Ate there with wife at 7 pm on a Thursday night...patio 2/3 full and only four tables busy inside where we were. Our server stayed out mostly. Ordered potato skins and fish and chips. Skins arrived warm but not hot. Peas and fries (both cool) on other plate apparently sat for awhile waiting for fish (that was tasty) which was the only thing hot. When food was served my wife asked for water refill. The response was not “sure” or “I will tell your waiter” but rather, “you’ll have to tell your server”. Now I understand that food servers come directly from kitchen staff in order to hasten service (which further begs the question of why the food was not hot) but her response to a request for water does not reflect good training. At no point during our meal did we hear “how is everything” or “can I get you something”. Took a full ten minutes to get bill and a different server brought back receipt and cc. And did I mention that we noticed hostess sitting on stool eating fries while greeting new patrons? Management, you have a problem and it may be you.

Best service we had in San Antonio

By milomlo1414 |

Great atmosphere. Good music, good beer, good food, great service. Very pleased and will be back!! Clean facilities

Beer with a view

By MissionTrip |

Stopped in today during San Antonio's St Patrick's Day parade when everyone is Irish, including those of us who ARE🍀 Amazing friendly service from a barista in an absolutely crazy busy environment. I had the potato skins and Irish bread. Service was amazing given the crush of people. View of the trees above the river walk by the restaurant.

Nice location, but scary dirty

By Joseph G |

This place has all the makings of an Irish pub including food and beer and ambiance. We did not eat because we felt it might not be safe for our health. We sat outside (expect mostly smokers) and enjoyed a few beers. That was good. However, when venturing inside and especially towards the dart boards in the back, OMG, the sewer gas smell is off the charts and you begin to see the REAL Waxy O'Connor's. Step into the bathroom and you get the truest picture. What a disgusting mess. Foul foul foul. If this is how they maintain the patron area, I can only imagine what the back areas must be like. There are better options along the walk.

Great restraunt right on the river

By Sandra W |

We stopped in for lunch and drinks here. It has a great atmosphere outdoors seating on the River walk. Food was good and reasonably priced. Would eat here again.

Great little bar

By Attkica |

We stopped by a couple of times to grab a beer and something lite to eat, Great location on the Riverwalk and the staff was very attentive,

Went in for something other than TexMex

By Nebraskatravler69363 |

Really poor service. We sat at the bar because we wanted to try some new whiskey. The bar staff barely acknowledged us, we waited for a long time and they weren't busy. The food was okay and portions were large. But because of the service we went be back.

Corned Beef and Cabbage!

By lovestoeat2010 |

Arond here I can get corned beef and cabbage in a few places on St. Patty's day but at Waxy O'Conner's it is 7/52 and it is as good as any I have eaten anywhere. The pub itself was shipped to San Antonio from Ireland in pieces and reconstructed on its river walk location.. This is definately one of those do not miss places with great food and very good services.

Yummy stew!

By Betty B |

My friends and I were cold and decided we wanted Irish Stew. They ordered Irish Stew and I had the lamb version. We all totally enjoyed the stew and the brown bread that came with it. We were warmed up, for sure! The wait staff was pretty busy, but we weren't in a hurry AFTER we warmed up from the stew. I would go again for the stew!

Fun Irish bar

By Michelle N |

Didn't eat here - just drank... a couple times. Enjoyed being able to sit outside and enjoy the live music from inside. Good time. Good drinks. Nice environment.

Great place

By Jerry S |

On the way back to the hotel on the Riverwalk at night stopped here for a little dessert. The place was jumping inside and out. Had their Apple walnut bread pudding And it was fantastic. Service was quick and the servers were friendly. Tables with heaters outside were very comfortable.

Lamb stew

By Patricia B |

A wonderful Riverwalk restaurant serving traditional Irish food. Although this isn't typical San Antonio food, the lamb stew was absolutely delicious and fresh.

Authentic Irish pub

By Bill C |

This is an authentic Irish pub right in the heart of the San Antonio Riverwalk. The interior was designed and built in Ireland and then shipped to San Antonio along with a crew of Irish craftsmen to be constructed. The usual assortment of Irish whiskeys and Guinness on tap. The menu offers typical pub fare like Shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, corned beef and cabbage, Guinness stew, as well as burgers and other choices all of which are quite good. The mariachis from the Mexican restaurant next door were coming here to drink on their breaks.

Wonderful

By Jai100Owen |

This is a fantastic place to eat! Wonderful food, that reflects actual Irish dishes! I would definitely suggest the pot pie!

Always the best

By Patrick O |

Great atmosphere, chicken curry was to die for. That with a Irish coffee made for a great lunch, only possible by the impeccable service of Corina. Thanks.

Good Food and Good Service

By 1Jon34 |

We were doing the River Walk and decided to try Waxy O'Conner's Irish Pub. We were greeted promptly at the outside patio. We ordered the weekday special which was Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and fries. The sandwich and the fries were both excellent and a lot of food. The service was prompt and friendly.

Great Food, Good Music

By sciguy J |

We stopped into this restaurant while walking along the Riverwalk one afternoon. Very unpretentious from the outside, the interior has all the atmosphere of a true Irish pub, down the bar, that we were proudly informed, was made there and then shipped over to Texas. The steak sandwiches were prepared to order and ample, served with a choice of fries or vegetables. No complaints were heard around our table, for certain. On a return evening visit there was live music and a pleasant, happy crowd that the wait staff kept engaged. This happens to be a great alternative to the traditional eateries and Tex-Mex establishments (which we also enjoyed).

Irish Pub on the Riverwalk

By Antony-Andrew |

Went for a bite to eat whilst stopping off in a very hot San Antonio. The Riverwalk setting with the bars and restaurants is beautiful and relaxing place to eat. Menu at this bar is ordinary pub type fayre with a good selection of beers from Guinness to lagers and other beers from around the world inc my favourite Samuel Adams. We ordered Chicken strips as an appetiser, which arrived in good time but where more. Akin to chicken breasts in appearance...far too big not like strips or goujons...but where tasty enough. Mains we ordered a burger and hand cut fries and a chicken curry. Again they arrived in good time...the Chicken curry certainly arrived like something resembling a mixed up mush as the chicken was shredded and all mixed in with the sauce and rice, so don't expect chicken chunks in a sauce with rice on the side, looked more like school dinners. The burger was a decent sized well cooked meat with salad and bun, the chips however, were overcooked thin tasteless brown nothing, if you are expecting thick chunky tasty 'hand cut fries' you will be disappointed. Neither of us finished our meal... that says it all. Nice location below par food.

Great Late Morning Stop for a Sandwich

By Tina F |

Nice place to stop by for a late morning sandwich. I got the Tuna Sandwich and fries - which was good. Partner got chicken tenders - which were great and as large a breast fillet. Staff very friendly.

Waxing Lyrical

By Gary W |

Had dinner in the front courtyard at Waxy"s and watched the passing parade along the river walk. The menu had many selections and the food was delicious. Staff were friendly and prompt. The interior was vast and had the usual photos that an "Irish pub" must have. The prices were reasonable and the ambience was good.

Poor food and semi engaged service but good drinks

By Mark L |

Bar lady over worked and walked off half way through a question or answer to talk to another customer which was annoying . Food ordered chicken curry with rice . Arrived cold and in a small bowl so asked for them to microwave it and remember the rice . Came back super hot from microwave and told rice was mixed in ? Very displeased with this as small portion and never have I had curry and rice in small bowl apparently mixed in - the being cold but was also not good . Short version if you have patience and a small appetite order here otherwise Manama have better places around I’m sure . I won’t be back

Tasty and fast

By Dayna K |

Everything was fresh, fast, and delicious. Great music and atmosphere. Lots of options to choose for both food and drinks.

Terrible service and poor attitude

By Stretch Clendennen |

Six of us stopped in here while visiting the Riverwalk because it had a no wait time. Now we know why, everyone else was avoiding the place. Our server seemed great when he first greeted us, but that didn't last long. My wife likes her burgers on the rare side and asked if she could get it medium rare. The server said she could have it as rare as she wanted. Everyone else placed their orders and we sat and visited while waiting for our food to come out. Once we place our orders, our server pretty much abandoned us. He stayed busy at the bar and taking care of others, but rarely came to check on us or our drinks. When our food came out, my wife's burger was well done. We tried to get our server's attention, and eventually got one of the managers to stop at our table. We explained the problem and she promptly took my wife's meal back to the kitchen. A little bit later our server brought out the replacement meal and asked my wife to check it. It was also way over done and she told the server. He didn't seem terribly concerned and his response was that he comped her meal, so at least she didn't have to pay for it. No real apologies or even any concern that she didn't get what he assured her she could get at the beginning. The manager never stopped by to apologize or attempt to correct the situation. Another guest ordered a salad that ended up costing $20, and it was mostly lettuce with some so-so salmon on top of it. The other meals were edible, but nothing to get excited about, or to justify the cost. The next time we visit the Riverwalk, we will gladly wait an hour at some other restaurant before eating here again.

Excellent pub food

By Kim R |

Wonderful lunch on the river walk on a great patio that is dog friendly. We had the chicken pot pie and Reuben sandwich along with traditional Black and Tans. A great lunch an a nice spot on the river walk. Our dogs enjoyed it too!

yuck

By n0sn0girl |

Our party of 3 snagged a table on the patio by the Riverwalk. The first thing I noticed was all the dirty ashtrays on the tables. I am allergic to cigarette smoke and looked around....sure enough, the table right next to us was smoking. So I had to ask our waitress if we could move to another table. She was clearly irritated and said "I can serve you wherever". Just went downhill from there. The food was awful. The waitress was annoyed and unfriendly. Went inside to go to the bathroom and the whole restaurant was dirty and smelly. I recommend eating elsewhere.

Good Food

By r0siej63 |

We always love a good Irish pub. We both ordered fish and chips, which was very good. The fries were done perfectly. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. Live music started at 9PM.

Worst service and food ever

By Kim B |

I went there a few days ago for a snack and drinks and all went well. Went tonight with the family. After over an hour wait we still never got our appetizer and when food finally arrived it was all cold. Paid for drinks and left. Never been so disappointed in the food and service anywhere.

Irish Pub on the Riverwalk

By Grace K |

After a long day out on the town we wandered the Riverwalk in search of somewhere to dine on a Friday night. We were traveling with our kids so we had a 5 and 3 year old in tow which lead us to not want a high-end restaurant. Waxy O'Connor's was bustling but not so crazy we couldn't get a seat. We sat next to the back bar but could hear the live music from the front room. It was quite enjoyable. They did have a children's menu which is always a plus traveling as a family. The kids were happy with their food and my husband and I got the Shepard's Pie and Fish and Chips. Both were quite tasty. I would certainly add this to my list of places to dine if we return to the Riverwalk.

Closed!

By Jeff C |

One of my favorite places to visit in San Antonio. However, we visited and found it deserted, with a couple hand written "closed" signs. No explanation, and no idea if this is temporary or permanent. So sad!

Fun atmosphere and pub food

By mcfitzsatx |

One of my favorite hangouts in San Antonio, this authentic Irish pub is a great casual spot to meet friends. The fish and chips dinner is excellent and the shepherd's pie is very good. Great beer on tap and friendly bartenders.

Terrible food, no craft brews

By Liz Z |

My husband and I happened upon this place while walking around. The number of beers on draft are few, and not representative at all of the national craft brew scene. In fact, not one beer listed was from a US craft brewery. We ordered the guinness stew which arrived cold and tasted like a gravy. It was beyond disgusting. I absolutely do not recommend this place.

Great place!

By Andi S |

My husband and I went to San Antonio to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and we had predetermined that Waxy’s was the place we'd go for dinner and drinks the night of our special day. Great choice on our part!! They had the heaters going out on the patio but we decided to eat inside (it had snowed the night before and was definitely still chilly!). When we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised by the live music being performed by a talented musician. He did everything from Johnny Cash to Oasis to The Beatles and we loved when he put his own spin on the songs. We sat at a table over by the bar and were promptly greeted by the bartender. I didn't catch her name but she was awesome- super friendly, had a huge smile the whole time, didn't have to write our order down, and we got our drinks & food quickly. I should probably mention that the ENTIRE staff was smiley and friendly and the teamwork going on there was unlike anything I've ever seen/experienced in a restaurant!! We ordered the spinach & three cheese dip (yum!) and the chips were honestly better than any Mexican restaurant we ate at while there! We also split a Reuben sandwich (pretty good) and I had a house side salad (it was huge!). We were constantly being checked on by staff members but definitely not in a obnoxious-make-you-feel-rushed sort of way. Each of them was wearing a different Waxy's shirt and we enjoyed our time in there so much that we ended up buying one of the long sleeved shirts. The only suggestion I have is updating the San Antonio location on the Waxy's website to reflect the current prices. There wasn't a huge difference but it wasn't accurate either. Overall, we loved the atmosphere, staff & food here and will definitely come back if we're ever in Texas again! This place was awesome!

Ok but won't return

By tiffers2184 |

Not sure where to begin. We came at shift change apparently. The first waiter had almost no personality. The new waiter was great. But first waiter forgot my drink order. The potato and leek soup was great. Rest of the food just ok. However if you sit outside apparently they allow smoking. It was disgusting and glad we were done eating or I would have left. Saw other people leave after they gave the person and ash tray and allow the smoking to occur.

WORST FOOD EVER DO NOT GO HERE

By maureen m |

I ordered the chicken sandwich came out with fake cheese my dad ordered ribs came out full offer and tough. Service was slow and terrible. Do not waste your time or money

Great location

By Phil N |

It was a beautiful location along the Riverwalk. Watching the people walk by and see the river boats full of people was so much fun. We stopped for their house special, the orange old fashion, for a nightcap on the way to our hotel. The service was very good, and the drink was excellent.

Dinner and a Beer

By MarkMac07 |

Great staff and fantastic food!! Enjoyed the shepherd's pie and a Guinness to end a very hectic day!

Nice surprise!

By threemckees |

We love to search out pubs when traveling and Waxy's didn't disappoint. The feel and surroundings were cozy and authentic. We were there during a slow afternoon for a late lunch, but it was just what we needed. Dark, cool and refreshing. We were told they had live music at night and were sorry to miss that. We ordered fish and chips and a Guinness. The fish was okay, the fries were WONDERFUL and the Guinness was fine.

Late lunch on the River Walk

By Old_Island_Guy |

Since we knew dinner was going to Mexican food, we wanted something different for a light, late, lunch. Waxy O'Connor's is right across the river from our hotel, so we enjoyed some drinks and shared a generous order of potato skins. Our first (but not our last) Margaritas during our several day getaway to San Antonio were not bad.

Disappointing all around

By BOSTRVLR14 |

Service slow. Had to keep asking server for update on food. Food disappointing when it arrived. Too many other places to eat on The Riverwalk to waste your time and monies at this place.

Always great

By Kyle C |

I’ve been coming here for years. Every time I’m in San Antonio I ensure that I make it here. Compared to all the other bars and restaurants on the riverwalk you could walk right past this and not even know it. The staff has always been very friendly. The food has always been good. And the beer is always cold. They have live music there some nights too and I’ve always enjoyed the show.

An Irish Chain with Live Music

By John M |

There are many Waxy O'Connor's with many in Britain, and surprisingly none in Ireland that I can tell. I was surprised that there are so many Irish places on the San Antonio Riverwalk until I learned how many Irish fought in the Alamo. Connection? Don't really know! Waxy's has live music every day and has nice outside seating. Their Reuben is to die for.

A Quaint Little Place in the Heart of the Riverwalk

By Ryan B |

We brought our dogs and everyone was AMAZING!!! Landon was our server and should run for president. The hostess and the bartender were also top of the line (we didn’t get their names but we came here on the evening of 12/8/25 [for manager’s and corporate’s input]) There is no way my gf/fiance/wife (TBA) and I will come through this town and not come here again. If this place was a person, it’d be the Godfather of my children’s.

Excellent food on the riverwalk

By Chas87714 |

We stopped in for a quick meal. She ordered bangers and mash. The Irish sausage was incredible, served in a dark gravy, with lots of flavors. I opted for the fish and chips. The fish was cooked perfectly, and was white and flaky. Both meals had large portions, enough for two people.

A little bit of Ireland in Texas!

By MillboroGirl |

What a surprise to find a pretty authentic Irish bar/restaurant along the River Walk. The food was good, especially the brown bread. Try the curry or the shepherds pie--yum. The Margaritas left a lot to be desired, but the food portions were generous and the service gracious.

Tasty and fun

By Jacquie S |

Good food! Fun atmosphere! The fish and chips were outstanding and the bread pudding - yummmmmmm! Live music after 9 was fun! We’d go again for sure

Walk no more, stop here for good food and drink

By Cheryle H |

I walked up and down the riverwalk to find a place to eat that would not break the bank and found Waxy O'Connor's. They had a menu outside you could view before going in. Funny thing is I ordered a burger but had a really tasty drink. Bar tender knows how to make a drink. The food was really good and the service was good. I was alone and did not feel uncomfortable alone here at all. My only regret is not eating here more then once. The price was fair compared to some of the other places along the riverwalk too. Thanks Waxy I enjoyed my visit and loved your food.

Unauthorized Tip on Credit Card

By Kathryn B |

I was charged an extra 30% tip on my credit card receipt that I did not authorize. Even after I tipped in cash!! I’ve been trying to get a hold of the owner for over 2 weeks with no luck. The managers refuse to do anything. This is an awful business with awful customer service who steals!!!

Dog friendly, friendly service, good food.

By Connie C |

Close to our hotel and dog friendly. Nice service and brought water for our dog. The Irish sausage sandwich was delish according to my husband. The crispy fish sandwich was delish according to me! The fresh tomatoes on the plate were sweet, the pickles side for my crispy fish sandwich were really tasty. Service was friendly and attentive.might have to eat here again.

Smelly

By Amy C |

Food was just okay. Hard to screwup a grilled chicken sandwich, but they managed to do so. Also smelled like garbage as soon as you walked in. Observed a few couples walking in and walking right back out vector this. We won’t be back!

Lucky Landing

By travelingBard23 |

We thought Waxy O’Connor’s SA was connected to the restaurant/pub in London. It turns out they are not related at all. Even so, we enjoyed the pub feel of the Riverwalk Waxy’s in its own right. Holly is a server extraordinare. Her personality makes the mealtime fun. The selection of whiskeys and other beverages meets the expectations of a good Irish pub, though the most Irish aspect seemed to be the soccer match playing on the big screen.

Great Spot

By Garry M |

This is a great place for a lively atmosphere. Great food, good service and we had great live Irish entertainment when we were there. Right on the Riverwalk.. Highly recommend this spot.

Frozen Irish Coffee

By Wandering_Freee |

Best Frozen Irish Coffee on the Riverwalk. We stopped here every night and got one. They also do to-go cups. Weezie was the best waiter.

Great service!

By CT |

We stopped here after dinner elsewhere. Saw a table open right on the water and the host sat us right there immediately! Got a coffee and the chocolate cake. Hubby and I shared and watched nightfall descend and the Christmas lights come on over the water. Very busy this time of year and still loved it. Watching people enjoy it all too is nice! 12/28/24

Wonderful Surprise!

By Kristina B |

My boyfriend and I live in Waco and know where to find GREAT Mexican food. We didn't want that for our trip. So, we decided upon something different. BEHOLD! Waxy's provided us with the best Irish food I've ever had. The drinks were great, and not really over-priced. We sat outside and enjoyed our food and drinks for quite a while without any issues.(We are both smokers, so the long break was extra nice after all the walking!) The waitress we had during the late afternoon on Friday was exceptional and very friendly! I highly recommend the Shamrock Stingers, especially if you like mint! Our first visit we had fish and chips - very very good. The next visit on Saturday we had corned beef and cabbage. Highly recommend it as well.

Irish Pub on the Riverwalk

By Jason M |

Open seating, friendly staff, cold beer and your standard pub fare. Go for the music and drinks not the food. Potato skins seemed microwaved and the ruben was so tough to chew - inedible. The fries we ok.

Irish in Texas?

By Placid Barry |

With no shortage of Mexican or Tex-Mex offerings along the Riverwalk, it was nice to have something different. I had an excellent shepherd's pie. My colleague reported that her burger was delicious.

Not how I remembered

By Mrh1085 |

Stopped by Waxy O’Connor for a lunch in a Monday afternoon. Service was incredibly slow. All three orders came out incorrect. Won’t be going out of my way to go back.

Location And The Lone Star Lights Were The High Point Of The Evening

By Mark G |

I wanted to give Waxy's a higher rating but just couldn't. We have been to the one in Ft. Lauderdale and like it a lot, so I expected the same with our great seating right on the Riverwalk. The Lone Star Light bottles were ice cold, however my crispy fish sandwich was over fried, and the Cole slaw was average at best with huge chunks instead of shredded. That put a damper on the evening for me though my wife liked her Shepherd's pie. Service was OK, but the waiter seemed to have an obvious cold, which didn't sit well with me either.

Horrible service OK food

By Ubob61 |

We sat outside, a waitress came and took our order and then disappeared. Someone brought our food which was average. Our waitress Video chatted for the next half hour, couldn't get a glass of water. Would have liked desert but could not find anyone to wait on us. I finally got the host long enough to ask for a check and was told he would get it. He went inside and then back to the host station and no check. Went inside and found someone to take my money. This is the first time I can think of that I didn't leave a tip. With so many wonderful choices all around can't think I would ever go back

Fantastic!!

By Brusher |

The Chicken Pot Pie was a huge serving, topped with a flaky, tall crust. It was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful! Try the “Leprechaun’s Kiss” cocktail. It is really good!!

Dinner on the river walk.

By adprochris222 |

This is a nice pub right on the river walk. The food was fresh and tasty. We liked the shepherds pie and the chicken pot pie. Waiting on desert now—sure it will be as good. Looks awesome!!! Our waitress was spot on throughout our meal.

Best Shepherd's Pie Ever

By TurboJudy |

The four of us each got something different, fish & chips, lamb stew and beef stew. It was all good but the Shepherd's Pie was outstanding! I would go back when in San Antonio.

Great place to Party

By tonymarra |

Great place to party with friends. Good service. The beer is cold and the selection is great. Nice dance floor and the place goes crazy after midnight. We stayed until 2 am. and had a great time. Nice to sit on the patio and watch the view along the riverwalk.

Quick but...

By Emily Ann |

We sat down quickly but we soon realized why. As we tried to drink and speak to others in our group, it was difficult to do so because of some regulars who were so loud we soon left to go somewhere else for dinner. Staff was friendly and helpful though.

Very Irish

By kaperry |

Fun place , we visited it twice. Free peanuts to have with local draft brews. Bartender helpful in area transportation and attractions. Piano entertainment on second visit.

Irish pub on Riverwalk.

By podrozniczka60 |

It is very nice to sit in their outdoor section, people watching the Riverside Saturday night excitement and enjoying the atmosphere over a Guinness and their famous frozen Margarita. This pub is very pleasant and the service seems good.

Great Entertainment

By Boo913 |

We visited Waxy’s to listen to guitar/vocalist Joe and we were not disappointed! He is VERY talented and has a great sense of humor also! Doubly entertaining! Food is good too. Wonderful 3 nights visiting Waxy’s!

Quick to be seated; now I know why . . .

By giantscamps |

Yikes. Everything in my head said, "BBQ and TexMex when you come to San Antonio." But we stumbled upon Waxy's, and the guy out front had lots of patio seating and sat us right away. Beer and drinks may be great; food was barely cafeteria quality. My chicken sandwich had cheez-whiz instead of cheddar; my wife's portobello mushroom sandwich was....disappointing. Follow your head, next time . . .

Nice Lunch Menu

By Mike C |

My wife and I enjoyed a relaxing lunch at Waxy's. It is reasonably priced, and there are nice menu selections. I think you'll enjoy visiting this Irish Pub style restaurant. We certainly did.

Good Guinness, Great staff.

By JeanMarie J |

Nice atmosphere and fantastic wait staff. Guinness was poured expertly. We had wings which were only ok. Would come back due to staff and location.

Really Good Food, Really Slow Food Service.

By Bill M |

We ate here on a whim. Walking along the Riverwalk, we saw the place, checked their menu and took a seat. There is outdoor patio seating; but, some folks were smoking. So, we thought we'd eat indoors. Inside was dark and the tables were long, bench like and didn't suit our desire. So, we went back to the patio. I ordered the chicken pot pie and my wife had the bangers and mash. Our server took our order quickly; but, it took an unusually long time for our food to arrive. But, when it did, it was excellent.

Interesting Irish pub!

By traveling03 |

Atmosphere was welcoming and Guinness was good! Disappointment was in Guinness beef stew. It had a thick white gravy that concealed the beef and vegetables. Would not choose that again! Left as much gravy as I could and did not feel satisfied afterward. Brown bread, served on side of stew, was a positive, delicious touch though. Since both people in party had the stew, not sure how the other food is.

What you see is what you get!

By 85JonathanP |

Great bar and open long hours. One of the most reasonable proced bars on the river walk. Great and efficicent servie with a smile.Food is pub food and plentiful.

Amazing food and even better service!

By Jane H |

We love Irish pubs and Irish food, and this place did not disappoint! The food was so good, fish and chips were on point but the potato & leek soup will keep us coming back for years to come. The entertainment was good, I would have liked to hear more shanties in a Irish place, but he did good cover songs. The one thing that made up return customers was the service. The bartender was the best we have ever had on the Riverwalk! She was on her game every time we went in, lunch and dinner. We never sat with an empty drink and never had to chase her down for anything. And we watched her provide the same impressive service to everyone around us. She was personable and attentive and the entire reason for me taking the time to write a review. THANK YOU KRISTY! You made our honeymoon that much more memorable!

We came for the drinks

By Kathryn R |

We had a great time at Waxys. The bartender (female) that night was slow, but once we got our drinks we were able to enjoy the band and they were great. You can sit out front by the river walk, inside by the band or in the back bar. Lots of seating even thought this place looks small from the riverwalk. Great for late night drinks and eats.

Good food, slow service

By Lisa R |

We dined here while attending a conference in San Antonio. The food was very good, but the service was slow. We did make reservations the evening before, so we had no trouble getting seated, but the wait on drinks and food was long....I shared the chicken with a colleague--very, very good!!! Everyone enjoyed their food (chicken currey, BBQ ribs, chicken pot pit, lamb stew). Drinks (when we finally got them) were spot on--and refreshing.

More than expected. Better than you might think

By Stainless F |

We stopped 3 times 4 days. Very accommodating and the food is good! People walking by asked how the food was and it really was... Don't be fooled by the outside or the first look inside the place... Walk deeper! The staff as friendly and the food really is great. Ask for crispy fries and the fish and chips is amazing. Haven't had great light battered fish that was as good since London.

Pretty good

By Courtney T |

We came here on a Saturday night. We were able to sit right down, no wait, so we stayed as some of the other places had a wait. The service was good and every staff member we encountered was really nice. I got the fish and chips and it was 4/5 Stars. My husband got the potato skins and he said they were delicious. I’d take off a star for cleanliness. The menus seemed a little dirty as well as the ketchup and vinegar bottles.

A lighter alternative

By Loud1Canberra |

After a big lunch we were looking for a lighter dinner. Waxy's has a good list of appetitisers and desserts. We had potato skins and chicken tenders followed by Apple Walnut Bread Pudding. While the appetitisers were good the pudding was just wonderful. A bonus was they had two non-alcoholic beers - Guiness and Blue Moon.

Great Place

By luvstotravelanywhere |

We ducked into this restaurant/pub to get out of a rain storm. We had a group of 12 including four children around 7:30 PM. We were pleasantly surprised with the delicious food and the great service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

On the San Antonio, Texas Riverwalk! Great Food!

By Chris G |

We spent the afternoon on the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas and ran across this delightful place. The food is great and the service is friendly and prompt! Check them out! You won't want to pass Waxy O'Connors up!

Just Okay

By rehker |

Food was fair nut nothing special. Fish and chips were pretty typical and chicken pot pie was also nothing special. Service and atmosphere also mediocre.

told i should visit i did

By Mbarrett68 |

Irish pub in Texas what more is there to say, lol. Its located on the river, drinks were great beer was even better. Music was outstanding, I suggest stop by 9 pm and have a few. fun time

Great Food

By GolferKen |

Can't say enough positive things about Waxy's. Service was great. Food, particularly the bangers (as good as you'll get in Ireland) was excellent and very reasonably priced. Worth going to when in San Antonio

Always Fun

By Boo913 |

We go to Waxy’s every time we visit San Antonio mainly because of the very talented and entertaining musician Joe Womsley. This time was a sad time because it was the last time for Joe to play at Waxy’s where he has performed for 18 years as he flew back across the pond. This Waxy Icon will be missed!

Great Irish Pub

By Ron T |

We sat at the front bar for drinks & food and Christy the bartender served us in a friendly, polite and professional manner. We both had the Shepherds Pie and it was huge and excellent. We ended up moving to the tables outside for after dinner drinks to enjoy the Riverwalk and people watching. We would definitely return when in the area again.

Wings an Beers

By flzdmpm03 |

Stopped in for a quick bit to eat while touring the Riverwalk. Wings were good and many choices of beer and Irish foods. Would recommend!

Family gathering

By Sharon M |

Food was good. Chicken Pot Pie was excellent. Outside seating. Service was a little slow but staff was very friendly.

Fun

By MattLee1970 |

Drove 4 hours to get here and walked around the Alamo and the riverwalk. Wanted to watch the basketball games, and I spied Waxy O’Connor’s. Great find. Atmosphere is what you would expect with traditional Irish favorites. Picked fish and chips (of course). It was on my table before I had a chance to drink half my drink. Great service and everyone was really friendly. Didn’t have desert because the portions were very filling. Would highly recommend.

Lunch after A River Cruise

By adventurer1234 |

We just finished a cruise on The Riverwalk and were looking for a place to have an relaxing lunch. Waxy O'Connor's fit the bill. We enjoyed lunch at an outside table on The Riverwalk. There is a selection of several reasonably priced entrees for lunch and several local choices for beer in addition to Irish brews. The food is tasty and well prepared, service is excellent, and the noise level is very low.

Great food

By Pavehawk |

My son and I decided to grab a bite to eat after walking around the Riverwalk for a while. Found a great little gem for food and a beer! We were able to get seats right away even though it was a Saturday. Our bartender/waitress was friendly and helpful! I had the Rueben sandwich and my son had the Waxy burger. The Ruben was the best one I've had since going to Dublin, Ireland back in 2013! My son loved his burger! And the fries we both had were great! Awesome staff, a lot of seating, great food! Can't ask for much more! Will go again the next time I'm down on the Riverwalk!

Traditional Irish Pub

By aliciamrowlands |

We stopped in to try our favorite Irish dishes; Shepard’s Pie and Fish-n-Chips. My husband said his Shepard’s Pie was his #4 choice of all the Shepard’s Pie he’s tried in our travels! The atmosphere was great and there is a large selection of draft beers as well as liquor options! The bartender was very attentive as well! My Fish-n-Chips were fair. Fish was flaky, and crunchy which I like! Fries were hand cut yet a majority were soggy. We’d definitely stop by this pub again!

Great Location

By Linda R |

This is a cute pub on the Riverwalk. They had live music inside, but it was nice outside. The drinks were okay. Surprisingly, we had great apple pie a la mode for desert.

Avoid at all costs

By 28Jeff |

This was the worst place we visited during our visit. The atmosphere was good to start with until One of our meals came over cooed and was sent back only to come back exactly the same do they know how to cook a burger rare.... no simple answer.

Cool Irish pub on the Riverwalk.

By Eric D |

My fiancé and I always frequent an Irish pub on every trip we take. Waxy's is a good place to stop on the Riverwalk. Very traditional look and feel and cool live music the night we were there. They have a good selection of beer and cocktails and food offerings, although we only ordered liquid menu items. The place is decent sized and and the service was ok.

Our lunch place on the riverwalk

By garlicaddict2016 |

I was glad to find a non-Mexican restaurant where we could sit and have a drink (and my husband a cigarette). We winded up having lunch heer almost every day. The corn beef and cabbage was good and so was the fish and chips and potato skins. They had a variety of wines, including pino grigio, and hubby enjoyed Guiness beer. Got to pick our table and we could always find one in the shade. Great service and it was a nice place to just hang out and just have a drink.

Eat somewhere else

By Joe C |

There are many great restaurants on the river walk and in town. This is not one of them. Don’t waste a second of your time or a dollar of your money on food here. Great atmosphere, friendly server I’m sure the beer / ale would have been very average , but the food was terrible, wrong , and cold. Definitely the worst restaurants we went to in our 5 days in San Antonio.

Great pub food for a cold rainy November day

By Goriders99 |

After long day of driving we were starving and decided to do pub food rather than search out another restaurant on the river walk or go somewhere we had been before. Waxy' was close so we popped in. The decor is the traditional Irish pub there is a space for a small no one was playing that Wednesday night sports was were on the tvs by the bar and since it was raining an no one was on the patio the place was fairly full. We seated ourself the waiter quickly took our order Sheppards pie and fish and chips.thefood was out in a shot. My sheppards pie as a generous helping and it was outstanding I had to pace myself because the serving was large and I would have consumed the whole thing. My wife's fish and chips were reportedly very good. All and all a great choice if you need some comfort food.

More of a sports bar than an Irish Pub

By BryanP250 |

This place really is just a sports bar posing as an Irish Pub, but that is Ok. They have good whiskey selection and the beer selection is Ok. The service is excellent.

Irish bar with Harp!

By SueKeo |

This is a typical Irish Bar with good food, good drinks and good service. There was entertainment on each evening and we really enjoyed ourselves here. We went in three nights out of the five that we stayed in San Antonio.

Long time friends get together

By Pam B |

Food is excellent and a great place with a perfect view And it was such a beautiful night we choose to sit on patio.... BUT BEWARE this is a smoking patio And they sell the customers the cigars to smoke. By the time our food arrived we were surrounded by cigar smoke.(when we sat down, there were nonetheless They should tell their customers upfront that it is a smoking patio and not a great place to eat, which would give them the option to move inside and are not subject to cigar smoke, prior to eating. We had at least 10 cigar smokers on the patio by the time our food arrived. . What a shame because when it is 75 out and you are on the riverwalk , of course you want outside seating. At that point in time the inside was full. What is the point of having outside seating overlooking the river if the primary use is for smoking cigars. All of the women left with headaches and felt nauseated.

Favorite pub on the riverwalk

By Mike B |

Hands down my favorite Irish pub in San Antonio.. great atmosphere to include a bar built in Ireland and shipped to the U.S. Friendly staff, GREAT Irish food, good selection of beer and whiskey.

Won’t eat here

By kozzer90 |

Good drinks. Won’t eat here after I saw one of the waitresses drop a napkin with freshly rolled silverware on the floor and put it back in with the rest of them. And it has a funky smell.

Good for drink... avoid late night menu

By chikistrikisalan |

The atmosphere was fun, live music, not too crowded (11:30 PM Thursday night). My wife and I had just arrived in San Antonio, and we were starving after walking around we decided to stop and have some food/drinks at Waxy O'Connor's - Drinks were well-made however the late night menu food (the chicken tenders and the fish/chips) were extremely grease.

Just Right!

By steelsss |

Hey walking around, getting hot and tired, and low and behold... a pleasant oasis on the river with good food, cold beer, all at a reasonable price! Went back 3 times during a four day stay...Thanks Waxy...is that a real name???

Beer & a treat

By Karen H |

Stopped for a rest from walking on the River Walk for a beer and smoked salmon. Both were good. Service had a slow start but it worked. Our 2nd time and we’d go again.

Nice Riverwalk Irish Restaurant

By Timothy N |

Visited Waxy's just after arriving to San Antonio for a conference. The staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgable of the menu and drinks. If spirits are your thing, you definitely want to check it out. The bar seems about a mile long and it is stocked. I had not idea an Irish restaurant could make magic happen with curry but my food was fantastic. I'm here for a week and will definitely visit again before I head home.

Cute bar on the riverwalk

By kwagmeister |

On a cool and damp day this was the perfect place to duck in for an Irish coffee — hit the spot! We stopped in another time following a long day of walking for a drink and to rest our feet — the staff are so friendly and the hostess remembered us from the day before (they see so many people in a day THAT impressed us!). We saw plates going by and they looked good — Irish pub fare which is delicious.

Superb

By David H |

Great pub right on the river walk, good value eats, cold beer and live music. The staff are super friendly especially Janelle, our waitress. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Definitely worth a visit.

Not impressed

By Jaimie L |

At here on a Saturday night. We were seated right away. Server was great. Food not so great. We all had different dishes. The dishes with fries came cold and fries soggy. None of us wanted to eat here again if that tells you anything.

Cool little place

By Chip13 |

Stopped in for dinner, sat in the back bar area. Had a couple cold beers and ordered the fish and chips. 1st order I got, fish wasn’t cooked all the way through. The great great bartender that was taking care of me acknowledged it and returned it to the kitchen. 2nd time around was much better. Place was observing all COVID rules and was very clean. Again, the bartender was top notch in checking in with me.

Good place to chill

By TexasGLS |

We were a group of five, found a table about 10 p.m. fairly easily. Service was great, good selection of beer and cider on tap. Food on the late menu was pretty good. As all bars go there was a singer on a guitar that was a bit too loud making it difficult to talk. Sit outside to avoid some of this. I will be back though.

Drinks on the riverwalk

By hancouk |

Friendly staff, good drinks. They welcomed us with our 2 year old pup on the patio too and brought her water and ice. A trio sang for patrons for tips, and they sang happy birthday to one of us.

Great Pub

By dnkvette |

type atmosphere and if lucky as we were you can get a table on the outside patio/riverwalk. We wanted another place but had no reservations....glad it happened this way!To top it off, next to us was a middle aged couple sharing drinks and appies...we were a table of 5 (family) and noticed in the romantic night time setting the fellow getting down on his knee.....I said to my wife....he's about to propose!. What an awesome moment we witnessed....we took some pics with their phones (not ours...arghhh) and then joined them at a bar just upstairs...what an awesome night! Great pub food and cold beer...what more can you ask for?

Waxy is Wonderful!

By Depplep |

We weren't sure we wanted an Irish Pub experience for our trip to San Anontio but the menu looked like straight up comfort food so we decided to give it a try. We started outside for beers but it was too hot late afternoon so we went inside. Once inside we were a little put off by the atmosphere and thought it depressing and not sure about ordering food. We had wings, fresh cut fries and potato skins. Wonderful! The potato skins were just okay, but order the fries crispy with a side of barbeque. We stop here 3x's on a 3 day weekend. Cold beers on tap, and reuben sandwich and fish and chips were out of this world. Service was great as well. Don't let this one fool you by the interior.

Themed Irish pub not authentic usual drinks no music staff ok but atmosphere unremarkable run of the mill pub

The food was great, the atmosphere was very enjoyable, really glad it was open late. We arrived able 11:30 and left at 1:00

Great dinner, wonderful service

By gborotraveler |

Dinner here while visiting with family for the weekend. Walking around stopped here on w him. Sat on patio to people watch. Myself had lamb stew, one daughter shepherds pie, wife corned beef and cabbage and oldest a curry. All food was delicious. Could have had two bowls of lamb stew! Youngest shepherds pie was great (that is after living in the uk for a few years as well) would go back for sure.good selection of brews and ciders

Good Irish Pub

By petersonge |

Stopped in for dinner one evening, this is right on the River walk but I found an inside table. The servers were Irish and the food was good, I had some salmon and soup both were very good.

Great pub

By NDtoUK |

Fantastic staff and good cold beer. What else do you need? Nice place to get away from crowd on Riverwalk.

Good Pub

By Doug B |

Lots of beers to choose from. The food was good (went for dinner). On of the best corned beef sandwiches I have had in a while. Wife tried a martini. It was good but a little sweet for her. Wait staff was very good.

Great Entertainment

By kamaainaboy |

Really enjoyed Jesse on a Tuesday night in August. He had a great repertoire of songs and really nailed some U2 from the 1980's. Service was average and so were the drinks, but Jesse was worth the trip. Find out when he's performing and check it out.

Joe Walmsley plays the best Irish music in town

By Patrick O |

Greet night enjoying the sounds of the house muso, Joe Walmsley. He plays an early show on Fridays and starts at nine other nights. Definitely a must see. Drinks are the best and Cori provided top notch service. Chuck, Anton, Kelly, Omar, Derrick and Chrissy round out the best staff on the riverwalk. And yes the chicken curry is to die for.

Drinks along the Riverwalk.

By maxpaste |

We enjoyed a few drinks here and have no complaints. There was live music starting later but we left before then. Their patio area outside the main bar room was not huge but had enough seats to accommodate people. The beer list only had a few local beers on it but otherwise was a good list of international drafts. There seem to be 2 entries for this place on TA so I picked the one with the most reviews to add my review.

Good food and good service

By Baggiecat |

We decided to visit for dinner while visiting San Antonio, and as a couple we also decided to split an appetizer and an entree…. Glad we did, the portions here are huge! Our food was excellent and the service just fine. The frozen Irish coffee is also a great drink-recommend you try it. Other entrees and sandwiches coming out to tables looked very good and also good sizes, so of you are not real hungry, share! We will come back here if we are ever in San Antonio again.

Went in and a lot of people drinking, hardly anyone eating...

By Ken123456 |

Should have know better. Very mediocre overpriced food. Ordered chicken pot pie, and it was more like soup with a hard biscuit thrown on top.
