Our hopes were high and they were exceeded! Lucky enough to get a Saturday night reservations we had an incredible meal. Great drinks, superb food and superstar service. The black pepper orecchiette, the green string beans, the grilled octopus, the apple cobbler dessert were delicious! Strong drinks and a great wine list! It was too rainy to enjoy outside but it looks like the view would be beautiful otherwise. Thanks for your perfect recommendations and for just being so generally fabulous Sarah!

We enjoyed the outdoor seating at communal tables and great views of Seattle. We started off with a sample of their oysters which were both local and delicious. They offer a great selection of local and Belgian beers. We also had the the Chips and Dip made of tuna. Worth trying. I then had the smoked fish salad. The dressing was light and you could taste the fish. I enjoyed the poached egg to mix with the fish and spinach salad. Great service, food and location.

We did a ton of asking around and research for what would be our big dinner night out in Seattle and finally narrowed down to Westward. We're so happy we made that choice. The food was utterly delicious from beginning to end. We had the gigante beans, grilled octopus, black-pepper pasta (not at all overly peppery), striped mullet, and one of the best bread services ever. The view was beautiful; I can only imagine how nice it must be when it's not dark and raining. Maybe we'll get to find out someday!

The oysters were so fresh they were singing. The decor is beyond charming. The bloody mary was pretty fierce. The service was professional. The view is lovely. I can't say how much I loved this place. I sort of want to move in! I will make it a regular haunt. And if you're lucky enough to have a boat, you can sail right up and dock it!

My husband and I dined here for brunch - it was the first spot we tried in Seattle - and no where else compared. The service was so friendly and helpful. We ordered oysters, the fried oyster roll and the smoked white fish salad. Our plates were licked clean and we left hoping we would return again!

This is a great restaurant with very good food. The setting is great and you can sit outside with view on the water. The interior is nice and trendy but the food is the main attraction...really good... especially the sea food... Book it and enjoy!!

We really enjoyed our dinner though our table was far from the beautiful view and very loud, right by the long bathroom queue that never seemed to disappear. It was so noisy inside that our waitress had trouble hearing our orders and even missed one of the things we'd ordered. The deck chairs outside have a lovely view (I might have enjoyed our evening more if we'd just ordered bar snacks and sat out there.) We made reservations - which is a must. We heard the server telling people who came in just as we did that their wait would be 90 minutes to 2 hours!

We've eaten at Westward a half a dozen times since it opened. Some of my favorite things have come & gone from the menu, but we've always liked the vibe, and taken out-of-town friends there or just popped in on a rainy night. Such was the case this week. Ordered 2 cocktails (Manhattan was decent, Barrel aged house version of Negroni was great) and three appetizers --- two of which were great --- clams & collard greens. Bill came to $90 with a 20% automatic service charge (with a note of the menu that 55% of the fruity went for staff tips and the rest to pay their basic wage. What???). Sure it's a good place, but the neighborhood is filled with good places that are more reasonable.

What a disappointment. The salmon (overcooked) was served with a chili sauce that overpowered what little flavor was left in the fish. The calamari appetizer was skimpy in size and had an off flavor. A dining partner’s clams were overcooked. My wife’s oysters included two that tasted ‘funny’ and she became ill overnight. A roasted potato appetizer was excellent.`Drinks and service were good. Beware the unlit steps leading to the restaurant - they pose a real fall hazard. Won’t go back.

Our evening at Westward was one of the best dining experiences we have enjoyed in years. The setting was beyond fabulous, the food was over-the-top delicious, the entire staff that we encountered wonderful, accommodating and enhanced are entire evening. Really, this spot cannot be beat. Beautiful views of Seattle at sunset and casual, outdoorsy environment- icing on the cake!

Ate here with a friend. The Pork Chop was absolutely delicious and my friend's risotto was very flavorful, rich, and delicious. Red wine by the glass was good. Service was excellent! Love the location.

Have been here a couple of times. The first time, we sat in the adirondack chairs (part of the bar, Little Gull) and soaked in the last of the day's sunshine while enjoying great cocktails. It was a perfect setting and a really great time. Shared an order of the clams, which were very good, and grilled octapus, which was not as good as I've had other places, but ok. The view and atmosphere were both perfect. Service was good but nothing special. Next visit was for dinner in the restuarant. The weather was a bit cold and rainy, so the bar was limited to the indoor seating, which surrounds the restaurant tables. The nautical atmosphere is fun and laid back - very well done. This time our service was very attentive from both the bar and the restaurant. As this place charges a service fee, which eliminates tipping, it seems that enitre staff works really well together to make sure that every guest is well taken care of. Our waiter forgot to put in an order for an additional side dish for us and the cocktail server picked up on it and took care of it, gratis. We ended up getting the side dish only a couple of minutes after the main dishes, so the timing ended up to be perfect. Although there was no need, waiter later came over to apologize. All of this speaks to the high level of service that we encountered all evening. Once again, cocktails were great. While the view is not as good from inside, the ambience was very lively and fun, if a bit loud. We were fine with the noise volume, but don't expect a quiet evening. It's a very social place! The food were mostly quite good. The biggest disappointment was grilled octopus, which I'd decided was worth a second try as this is a personal favorite. This time is was a little fishy tasting, which was disappointing. I'm sure I could have sent it back, but decided that this just might not be a dish to order here as the preparation was more basic than at other restaurants. The rest of the dinner was very good. I had the sea bass, which was cooked perfectly and my husband had a wonderful pork chop. I think my favorite thing might have been the slightly spicy yogurt glazed carrots, which were delicious! A must try! we had dessert, but weren't wowed. Westward (and Little Gull ) is a very fun place place with great service, atmosphere and views. Food is good but I've noted a few things that I'll avoid on my next visit. And I will be back! :)

We came on Saturday and thought the ambiance was nice. The restaurant is located on the water and it looked like it would be a pleasant place to have breakfast. Unfortunately, none of the dishes we ordered tasted good. The food was overpriced and seemed a little pretentious. The eggs were undercooked. The coffee had grounds in it. And the english muffins were not toasted and came out soggy which was disappointing when you are expecting crisp bread to each with lox and cream cheese. I would not come here again.

I went with a friend on a Thursday. We had reservations made 4 weeks in advance as this seems to be a very popular place. It is right on the water and has an excellent view. It has outside seating and a casual atmosphere. My drink was made perfectly and loved the oysters (ice cold). We ordered the Gigantes beans which were highly rated and recommended by the waiter. The beans were very bland and the sauce was extremely sweet which to me didn't match the description. We didn't order dinner because of the beans. The waiter was super kind to take off our bill. Service was good. I would definitely go back for drinks and the view.

Yes, the view is nice (if you can get it). There are just a few picnic tables outside, so most 4-top+ seating is inside, which isn't why you go to Westward in the 1st place. The food was OK, but overpriced for what you get (and I'm willing to pay for good food). Valet parking is $12, which ridiculously rivals downtown valet prices. The waiter was pushing the Mirival Rose (produced with grapes from Brad Pitt and Angelia Jolie's French estate) -- I have bought the same bottle at Costco for $20 and Westward has it priced for $72. Yes, $72! I understand a double mark-up, but come on! Such an over-the-top, lame money grab. We won't be going back -- it's like the Space Needle restaurant -- you might try it once, but you probably won't go back.

If you're a Wes Anderson fan, that's reason alone to check out Westward; there is an actual bar-sized model of the cross section of the ship from Life Aquatic behind the bar. There is also a firepit and amazing outdoor seating. But no matter where your seat is, you'll get fantastic cocktails, and a delicious meal. The service has been only average. Some visits we've had very attentive service, other times we've been nearly forgotten. But overall it nets strongly positive thanks to the vibe and the food.

This restaurant has a variety of outdoor spaces, including lounge chairs facing Lake Union. There are community tables outdoors, and a variety of interesting seating options inside as well. The food was really tasty and appealingly presented. Four of us shared the pickles, halloumi cheese salad, squid, chicken, and farrow salad. I found the squid to be a bit fishy and salty for my taste, but the others seemed to enjoy it. Otherwise, it was a most enjoyable experience. We were outside. There are plenty of umbrellas, but two of our party had quite a bit of sun and heat. The dress code is very casual, many people coming in off boats, in everything from shorts to summer dresses. Very fun - we will be back.

I guess I always knew that pigs had cheeks but until this day I had never seen them on a menu, on a plate, on my fork...mmmmmmmmmmmmm. I did not know what to expect of Westward. I heard good things about the view and the food, but if the weather is not so good a lot of this can fall by the wayside. Well, it was a perfect summer weekend in late June. By dumb, stupid luck two adirondack chairs opened up in the first row by the water just after we arrived. We watched the sunset with some oysters and wine and then ordered dinner. Delicious black cod and unbelievable pork cheeks with pole beans and green strawberries. How have I lived this long and never experienced that? The food and setting was complemented by exceptional, knowledgable service (which, we were starting to learn) is to be found all over Seattle. I was simply blown away by the overall experience. The only thing I am sure of is that I can never return. It's unlikely it would be able to live up to my memory of this time. Thanks to everyone at Westward - you hit it out of the park.

My wife and I celebrated our 52nd anniversary at the Oyster Bar at Westward on Northlake. If we wished we could have had a window seat with a fabulous view of Seattle, yet we opted for the Oyster Bar to try to have one oyster for each year of marriage. I will say that the last 10 were a struggle, but we succeeded. The oysters were fresh and wonderful and the staff was welcoming and very good to use. We must return and sample the fish with just a few oysters. Great spot, great oysters and great staff.

Made reservations, asked to be sat outside. Arrived and it was shared along to many other guests arriving with reservations that they could only sit inside. The outside was booked for a private party. The private party outside area sat empty the entire time we were there. After awhile the front desk did offer to move us to the outside, we were almost done with our meal, we declined. So we learned it is first come , first serve for outside seating they shared, line starts forming at 3 they shared . We will only go for drinks and apps and will arrive at 3;30. Dinner was not that great and could not see view thru the umbrellas that were up with no sun shining and the private party did not show up as big as they thought.

Unbelievably good food!!! Great service. Good ambience. Nice view. Everything was great!!! Highly recommended.

We came here for brunch recently and it was our first visit to Westward. The location is great with an outside seating area and views of the lake. As many other reviewers have said, it would be a wonderful place to sit outside and have a cocktail in the summer. As for the actual food served at the brunch, I give it a 1 star. We were disappointed in the lack of choices on the menu. If you have an allergy or even a preference for not eating a few items you end with very little choice. I finally chose the egg, sausage dish for a few reasons. It consisted of 2 fried eggs and 2 small sausage patties. In all fairness I had asked for the eggs that way because they offered only the usual options - scrambled, etc. It felt as if I was at a diner except then perhaps my sausage portions would have been larger. They also didn't offer chicken sausage or any other options. Someone else had the breakfast sandwich and was underwhelmed. All of our portions were small for the price. Bread wasn't offered with any of them probably because they have it on the menu for a charge. The lamb hash was the only item that really sounded interesting and worth the price. Avocado toast is a boring choice, it's no longer trendy and the egg/sausage dish that I ordered was not in any way inspired. They had a smoked fish dish but didn't identify the fish so not sure what that was. The coffee was good although they were stingy about refilling it. They offered an option besides potatoes of a green salad which was actually the best part. Too expensive, no variety, small portions, limited focus on healthy choices, etc. I have no interest in eating there again but I will go back for a cocktail!

Our third dinner here was utterly disappointing. The sloppy hipster staff really killed the whole joy of paying $300+ for a meal. Condescending service just makes food taste bad.

Incredible and relaxing vibe with beautiful water view. They have a good selection of wine on HH. The cheese platter and oysters were good, but disappointed in the octopus salad. Over cooked.

Westward has a quirky Wes Anderson like vibe. If you are a fan of the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou then you will love this restaurant. The bar shelving resembles the Belafonte model ship from the movie! We were meeting friends for brunch so we did not have the full menu but the restaurant has a full raw bar called Little Gull inside. The oysters were labeled with quaint blue and white flags that tied in the whole marina and sailing vibe.

If you're looking for a place on the water in Seattle, this is a great choice! We had dinner, but the outdoor patio area is so cute, I would recommend coming for drinks before dinner or just drinks! It was super busy while we were there (Friday night), so I'm glad we made reservations. The service was a little slow, but luckily we weren't in a hurry. Our dinner was tasty, but I would say the real star of the show was just the ambience/decor. I would definitely come back to sit out on the patio.

We went for brunch. The place is amazingly decorated. Very original. The food was delicious. A little bit pricey but it was worth it had the granola, House-made wood oven bagel, Dutch baby pancake and mimosas :). Definitely recommended!

We were here last summer right after they opened, and they've only gotten better. The restaurant location is absolutely magical, and Robert, our waiter, was an exceptional server with a great attitude. But the reason to come here is for the food! I highly recommend that you share everything, as you get more tastes of each fantastic course. We started with a dozen fresh oysters and went into one of the most wonderful grilled octopus appetizers ever, of an excellent portion size. The radishes with butter are a must have, as is the braised lamb on pita bread. You really can't go wrong with any of the food here and I would encourage you to be adventurous… and hungry!

5 old college buddies got together for a reunion at The Westward, which is on the north end of Lake Union about 5 minutes from downtown (if you're driving - Waze gets you there easily). This place has gone through some permutations over the years but seems to have hit its mark with this restaurant. When you first arrive, there is a very nice outside area for drinks overlooking the water (if it's a cool evening, the gas heaters are lit making the area very cozy). Inside was packed with obviously cool, young people - some groups, some couples - but the seating was very comfortable and noise did not interfere at all with communications at the table. The menu is not large - the specialite for hors d'oeuvres is clearly the variety of oysters, though the starter salads were also very good. For main course we went mostly for the (large!) trout, which was cooked crispy and was easily deboned. There were some good local beer choices, too. Service was excellent and we were doted on just the right amount. Prices were quite reasonable and definitely a recommend for a casual but good dinner.

Relaxed atmosphere on the Adirondack chairs. Perfect for a chilled brunch. Live music and great drinks, with great food and awesome views. Definitely worth it if just visiting Seattle. It's close to Gas Works Park, and walking distance from Fremont. A must in great weather

I've been here a few times and while the menu is limited it is pretty good. Mostly like the oysters. I would like to give a review, but was not able to go because of horrible communication from their hostesses and front end. I had called 3 times to make a reservation for a birthday celebration for nine people. I was told that they did not reserve the fire pit or the outside tables and they were on a first come first serve basis. We decided to risk it and based on my conversation with the hostess decided to get their early to get our name on the list and sit around the fire pit. So all of us hurried there from work (in traffic) to get there by 5:30 and when the first people got there they said, oh sorry there is a private party that has RESERVED the fire pit AND outside areas. I had called again the day before to make sure if we got there early we could probably get a table. She said yes, but no mention of any private parties. They said it would be a 3 hour and 30 minute wait upon our arrival. Yeah no! We all had to venture back through traffic downtown and fortunately Terra Plata was able to accommodate us. Thanks for causing so much stress Westward and nearly ruining the birthday celebrations. Probs won't be back!

Came here to flaunt Seattle summer at its best w a friend from the East Coast. Arrived at 3:30pm on a Friday. Got sweet parking. Took 50 minutes for the app to arrive. Took 25 + minutes for my cocktail. Checked on my olive app twice, they told me it was marinating, then eventually told they weren’t going to make it —I’m like, so that’s cancelled?? They said the delay was “breakfast” service leaving and evening staff coming in. Sure enough, at 4:30, we got prompt service, apps delivered stat plus drinks. When we were two sips into our last drink, they brought the check. Ouch. We ignored it until we were ready to leave. The view isn’t good enough for the service. Maybe do Ivar’s instead.

I heard a lot about the restaurant and family went. I think the interior was a bit dingy. I had osyaters which were delicious also hd cheese plate but not real impressed with either selection, quantity or the HMH that was on the plate. The other dinners were okay but not fabulous

I love the cocktail with homemade pepper butters. The food was very good but less than I expected in regards to flavors and portion sizing at this price level. 3 people tried the halibut and all three portions suffered considerably in size. Btw they add a top to your bill but to their credit they tell you so when the bill is presented. Would I go again???? Probably not.

I had the blackened cod and enjoyed it very much. My company was commercial fishers, and they seemed impressed by their meal as well. The sides ($10) were expensive but could be shared. The mains do not come with anything, so you are stuck with ordering the expensive sides. Service was very good -- not thrilled with the 20% gratuity automatically added to our bill for a party of five. Ambiance on a warm summer evening outside was great.

So this was my birthday brunch after the Seattle triathlon - me, two daughters, and their two friends. We were seated on the patio in the bright, warm sun, and had some difficulty cajoling the servers into moving an umbrella to our area to give us some shade. Our drinks were wonderful (Queen Mary and also the seasonal shrub). The menu was great, and we all ordered different plates to share. The gigante beans never arrived, and the server was unaware of this until we told him. Daughter's Dutch baby (pancake) also never arrived, but the server explained that it was delivered to the wrong table. After a long while he said he would comp this, and then said he would give us gelato for dessert as complimentary - a nice gesture - but it never came either! So... we vote with our feet.

Truly excellent food with a great view across Lake Union to Downtown Seattle and a classy stylish crowd. What more could you want? Its a bit noisy, but not badly so- you can talk. All the dishes that I tasted- a pasta mushroom medley, some octopus, and asparagus, were unique, interesting and excellent. The menu is hopelessly pretentious with many fancy words that you don't know and also has only a limited selection, less than 20 items. You'll need reservations a few days, at least, in advance.

This place is situated on a lake with the nicest view you can get on Seattle. If weather is nice you get to sit outside and enjoy a great view! Food is very good, tasty and creative. If you are used to huge servings then this is not your type of restaurant. Service is very good and casual. Place is hype so better book.

Food and service are 5 star! Amazing menu with wonderful fun ingredients. We enjoyed: fresh oyster Rainier beer steamed Manila clams, green garlic, fava leaf, urfa biber Grilled Octopus, taramasalata, chili and fennel bark, parsley oil Pan roasted black cod, smoked oyster sabayon, caramelized leeks, oysters root chips, squid-ink vinaigrette Lemon tart, blueberry chiboust, white chocolate powder Mango custard, sweet roasted coconut, lime gelee, coconut sorbet We will be going back again!❤️❤️❤️

Beautiful, delicious dinner, the best I had in the city. The problem is that it’s in a neighborhood with nothing else around it, impossible to get a res. They say on the phone that they have lots of tables for walk ins. We arrived and they said the wait would he 2 hours. I get it, it’s a popular restaurant, but to not do reservations and be in a far location free from other restaurants… that means anyone going without a res is really taking a leap of faith. Luckily they were able to get us in sooner, but man, I was not happy when we first arrived. For the love of all that is good, please just get a phone that you answer so walk ins can check in before coming !!

Reservations are a must, they get pretty busy. Service isn’t impeccable but it’s good and adequate. The guy we had was attentive. Any food you order will taste great, the only caveat is it’s pricey. If you have the budget go for it if not, then that’s okay. It’s not a complete lost if you don’t get to eat here. I gave them a 4 star because I didn’t think the amount they charged is tantamount to what food, atmosphere and service we were given.

What a great place. Awesome view, great funky decor, genuinely friendly service and truly wonderful food. We loved our dozen expertly shucked fresh oysters, my sinfully rich mushroom and polenta, and my husband's lamb hash. The free glasses of champagne and near champagne to celebrate our anniversary were a lovely touch. We're planning to return soon to try dinner here.

Great setting on the edge of Lake Union in the University District. Nice open deck when the weather allows. Young persons hard-surface, noisy restaurant. Best oysters I've had in ages, maybe forever. Choice made by wonderful waiter. Main courses all excellent. Great restaurant packed in a bar.

We highly recommend this restaurant. We were there only once and had oysters but they were delicious. The venue is really nice too, especially for special ocassions.

We arrived at Westward via boat and were able to find a spot at their dock. The views of south Lake Union on a sunny late afternoon were great. We were with friends and family and had a leisure dinner. We brought wine, but started with cocktails. We then tried the chips & dip and Borrata. Both were very good. Between the seven of us, we tried the Sockeye salmon, the pan seared Halibut and the wood fired half chicken. All of the dishes were exceptionally prepared, moist and delicious.

My husband and I dined at Westward, and it couldn’t have been better. We told them I was in a wheelchair, and they had a table ready for us with only one chair. But let me get to the food. For appetizer I had raw ahi tuna surrounded by all sorts of good things. He had roasted giganta beans, one of his favorite foods, and he couldn’t have been happier. Then I had ling cod, which was superior. We shared a side order of roasted carrots. He had trout, also accompanied by excellent garnish. His only complaint was that the portions were too large. Poor man; he took some home, and he will have to eat it for lunch tomorrow. We had no room for dessert. The server was excellent, present when we needed him, but not obtrusive. There seemed to be an active bar scene. The place is gorgeous. Our only complaint is that the noise level is too high for easy conversation.

Love the way they set up the outside bar and deck lounge directly on-the-water, then one layer back are the outdoor dinner tables, then further from the water is the indoor dining room (very loud when busy). All areas have a view. Their outdoor fire pit area, adjacent to the outdoor dinner tables, have tall-ish Adirondack chairs of 3 or 4 distinct rows, just as you would imagine in theater seating, nicely done area to just sit back and face the water. The waitress was so pleasant, polite and informative. We ordered drinks, appetizers and dinner entrees and coffee. The portions are very light. So you can't go if you are starving. The dishes were interesting and pretty good, but not to the extent I would have expected. We felt as if we had experienced pretty food, but nothing we were crazy about. I would like to go back to sit in the Adirondacks or sit at the outdoor bar, but the food is nothing that I need to pay for again. I did appreciate the bill, as it was totaled, tax added, and for a party of 3, tip was already added, but what I appreciated was they added the 20% tip to the pre-tax amount.. & also that the blank fill-in tip line (which confuses some, who do not notice a tip was compulsory) was not on the cc merchant copy. A good feeling spot that has very pretty food and a nice water, city view. note: there are only 2 single person toilets, the line was long, unusual to see so many men waiting in a line that que's between the kitchen & dining room.

Try sitting at the oyster bar, for fresh oysters from the region, amazing rustic bread and a glass of white wine. The guy who served us was very knowledgeable, with great service. Good prices for what you're getting. We went for Mother's Day and had a fun time! The outdoor sitting area is warmed by cozy blankets as well as an ongoing fire-a nice atmosphere right at the water front.

We celebrated my mom’s 71st birthday here and had a great dinner. Service was very good and the dishes we had were great. Given the size of our party, we tried about everything on the menu. Favorites were the halibut, the lamb and the halloumi appetizer.

Came at 10. Hostess was very nice. Wait staff nice but not very attentive considering there were only 10-15 folks there, could improve on asking a tea drinker for a refill. Dutch baby was not very well executed. But the risotto and as oriels were yummy.

During our recent visit to Seattle, my daughter had the foresight to reserve an outdoor table during our visit. When the menu was presented, it was mentioned that there were no specials There were five of us present and each person ordered a different entree plus we all shared two appetizers. Everything was very good and the waitress was attentive. Discovered from her that the owner was of Greek heritage although nothing on the menu would give you a hint of it. When she presented us with a dessert menu, I asked why no Baklava as a choice. No process of making it was the answer. Found it to be pricey even compared to many CT restaurants, but it may be in the ballpark for Seattle restaurants.

Best overall dining experience thus far in the Seattle area. Great service, simple and well thought out menu, superb mixologists, and without a doubt the best trout dish I've ever had...and I've eaten all kinds of fish prepared in a variety of ways. This one was top 5, ever. It's a very popular place but there is ample free parking on the street and you can beat the wait and show up without a reservation if you're ok with bar seating, which is plentiful and offers a decent view. We had a few drinks with our meal and dessert (which was fabulous) so it wasn't inexpensive - but value for money, it's a 5 out of 5.

We were visiting from PDX to drop our daughter off at UW and heard about this place from a local. OMG, the seasonal tomato salad starter was sublime as was my Old Fashioned cocktail. Then the Halibut main .....to die for! We eat out a lot and this was an over the top pleasant surprise. Highly recommend!.......Oh and the views!!!!

We were boating on a beautiful fall day and decided to head to Westward for dinner. We ordered several dishes and shared them all....everything was excellent. Highly recommend!

Beautiful food. Great service. Go without a reservation. If you call, it will be a 2 week wait, but that is for a table inside. Casual Eating is outside on patio overlooking the city lights. A huge fire put will keep you warm and you all sit around like the Marlboro man. The food is excellent. I had trout and my waitress assisted with great dexterity, to remove the head and tail and lift off the main fish from the bone. A first for me. Perfectly executed. Now I know how to eat a fish properly!! Superb.

Wonderful oysters and the best over roasted trout I have ever had. The dining room is mariner themed and rustic but the outside for the summer looks like great fun. Spot on service and beverages. Parking can be challenging- take Uber.

Excellent view of the lake and Seattle. $2 Oysters between 3 and 4 pm. Fire pit for evenings and fresh food.

My husband and I were driving around Lake Union and were hungry for lunch, found this restaurant on the water and decided to try it. No seating at the few outside picnic tables so went inside. Nice nautical decor and bar is interesting. They have a separate oyster bar if you like to splurge on oysters. We were there at 3pm, and they were not serving lunch, but had a separate menu for 3-5pm.We shared 4 little plates; the tomato soup, the potatoes cooked in the fire, the warm marinated olives, and the grilled Halloumi cheese over field greens and berries salad. Wanted the radishes but $9 for a few radishes was eye opening. The food we did order was delicious! We also asked for bread (which was awesome), but did not realize they charge $5/basket. Just the 4 small appetizers, bread and two drinks cost $74!! A nice experience, excellent food, very nice waitstaff service, but high prices for mid-afternoon appetizers.

Went to the Westward for our anniversary dinner. We arrived at 5:00pm, with reservations, but noted empty seats outdoors and asked if we could sit there. The hostess happily sat us. The weather was perfect, the food wonderful and the music was very nice. Would definitely go again.

If you're on a tight meal budget, this isn't the place for you. If you want great tasting food with a fun environment and an excellent view of the city, go here! We had the braised lamb, and the grilled whole trout. Everything was fabulous. We sat at the bar and chatted with the cook working the wood fired oven who was extremely funny in his own dry way. Excellent service, excellent food, great atmosphere, and a killer view. All of those + Seattle real estate can't add up to cheap prices. If you want cheap, go find a food truck and quit whining.

I took my Aunt from out of town to this spot because of the amazing ambiance, unfortunately the service was horrible and slow and the food was mediocre at best. We won't be recommending this place for our out of town guests nor will we be returning.

This waterside restaurant is noteworthy for its great food and fine service. We enjoyed a wonderful brunch on a beautiful Saturday morning. The fried eggs and Dutch baby pancakes were amazing!

Enjoyed a lovely evening with friends outside on the deck. Fortunately they had a reservation, as those outside seats are at a premium on a sunny day! Not real comfortable as in benches and picnic tables but they can accommodate more people that way in a small patio. (The Adirondack searing is wonderful for a couple). We enjoyed the last call of happy hour, which ends at 5pm and had some house wine (marginal selection), a Guinness and a Paloma (tequila, grapefruit juice, soda & lime) which was delicious! The house made chips with Tonnato dip disappeared in a flash. An order of Chico Bay oysters 6 for $12) were small and served with a cider vinegar dip. The lamb shoulder was delicious and a large serving ($37) and the Pork Panzanella ($25) a variation of your traditional salad but very nicely done. We finished with a butterscotch Pot Du Creme, which was teeny but tasty. The bill for 4 came to $244 before gratuity so you’d better enjoy the view and the food, which we did, and will plan to return!!

I made a reservation for Westward, anticipating a positive and special experience of dining. From the moment we walked in I felt like somebody’s lost step child. The reservation made for 7:30PM on a Saturday night (we showed up at exactly 7:30PM) had the front desk person (dressed VERY casually in a hoodie) telling us we would have to wait at least 20 minutes for our own table. She was pleasant enough but seemed as chaotically inclined as the restaurant itself. It took some doing to get her to seat us at the far end of the bar. There were other seats but we were sat off to the side, the far side of the kitchen bar area. It took even more doing to simply get a drink—at this point time is passing even more. It’s approximately 8:10PM or 8:15PM before we do get a table and then we get a shared table. That’s not what we were told we would have. Eventually, the waiter shows up (that takes even more time he’s not prompt either). We ordered a dozen oysters, the chicory salad and a salmon steak. The first two items come quickly and the salmon takes a ridiculous amount of time, far longer than promised. Why did the waiter not anticipate the firing of the fish to make the timing reasonable even semi-reasonable. The kitchen was closing and I simply felt like there I was at the end of the night the lost stepchild, what an unpleasant experience. We had arrived at the restaurant two hours earlier which should’ve been peak dining hour. I kept debating whether to ask the waiter to simply bring us to check before the salmon arrived and decided not to be unpleasant or make a scene. At this point I wondered why we stayed in the restaurant and didn’t leave immediately. My date is a little antsy at how long it’s taking, as well. The food was OK. By no means horrible but by no means particularly remarkable. When you drop 170 bucks in a restaurant for two people, I think you should reasonably be able to expect a dining experience that leaves a pleasant memory. I’ve been to far less touted restaurants on a regular basis that made me want to go back again. I won’t return and I won’t give the restaurant good marks.

This spot looks for like a 30-something restaurant but all ages were there. There is a line before 4:00 when it opens, and people try to get the adirondak chairs under umbrellas facing the water. This works for couples but not groups who want to visit. We enjoyed the clams, oysters and bean appetizers. I would skip the pickled veggies next time.

Located right on Lake Union, I'm pretty sure you can feel like you're on vacation here, even if you live in Seattle. There are beach umbrellas, Adirondack chairs, a fire pit, and a large deck. Not to mention fresh oysters and a nice list of oyster friendly wines. We ate dinner here and the meal was good, not great. I would go back, grab a few Adirondack chairs (first come, first served) and relax with oysters and rose for as long as they'd let us.

I didn't know this spot existed, until freinds asked us to join them last night for an early dinner. I believe this is where the Skansonia used to be. Ample angle parking right across Westlake, or you may use Valet. We 4 sat on the patio at a "common" picnic table, with another party of two. Lots of activity with a popular bar and also counter seats, plus a large outdoor bar area with perhaps 25 adrioack chairs. The food was VERY good: my oyster eating friend pronounced her 2 perfect, as was the tomato soup. the Clam dip comes with generous home made potato chips! An easy share dish, as was the Fried Calamari, served on garlic studded lemon mashed potatoes (fabulous), The Giant white beans were very hot & good, served in casserole in a tomato sauce. My husband loved the pasta with wild boar, which was a regular sized serving. Reminded us of being in Vernazzi. We all split an order of Farro with beet chunks, fresh and interesting. We split a carafe of "on tap" rose, very refreshing. It's a noisy place, mostly due to the sea planes & sheer popularity. Very informal and fun. We'll return! Our served was very smart about the menu.

This one has been on our list for a long time and we took advantage of a warm spring evening to beat the typical crowds to try this place out. Lauded by many different reviewers, the standout feature of this place is the combination of view and cache. Everything we tried was tasty, but a bit pricey.Presentation was great and the service fantastic. Two people, (2) drinks each = $49! Add on entrees and the automatic 20% gratuity and it came to $158. Tables are hard to come by as are the lounge chairs outside near the fire pit. Lots of young and out-of-towners make this a place for locals to try once (me) and then choose if someone else is buying.

$42 for a braised lamb shoulder a bit steep. Tasty, but should be for the price. Oyster on half shell were great ($21 for 6). Brussel Sprouts also nicely roasted. Ditto for little, bite size round potatoes. Manhattan was good , but also small for price. Good service. But for money can get as good or better food nearby.

We had dinner here last Saturday night and would not consider returning. The deep fried chick pea nibble might as well have been packaged corn nuts. Both the gigantic bean and potatoes in the fire were so hot when they were served we had to wait 10 minutes before we could even attempt to taste them. Although the bean dish was decent, the potatoes were simply small baked potatoes, with little seasoning. The grilled octopus itself was also decent, but the orzo served with it had been so overcooked it was like paste. The braised lamb shoulder simply didn't taste good. Although the meat was correctly cooked, the glaze applied to the lamb was so sweet that it overpowered everything on the plate. In the end, there wasn't a single dish that we had that we'd recommend to anyone.

The food and ambiance are amazing. We had the trout and the wild boar both of which were spectacularly prepared, especially the wild boar. A great wine list to pair with our meals and we were seated at a really special table with a view to the outside. The fire pit and Adirondack chairs are a really nice touch. The only downside was our server was also the bar tender and he kept getting busy and we waited a little longer than usual for service check-ins. Aside from that, loved the whole experience.

We had the Seafood Tower four of us. It was inedible, over salted and over spiced, we could not eat the food. We complained to server and staff, no response. What we thought would be a nice seafood dinner, turned out to be one of our worst meals, $345, not a good experience. Do not recommend. Also, they don't respond to phone calls, disconnected if you call in.

We came to celebrate a bunch of birthdays in one dinner. It was a lovely spring evening and we had a chance to wander outside and enjoy the waterfront view. The tables inside the restaurant do not have such great views but the food and drink is solid. We gobbled up the chips and dip, clams and beans. Everyone indicated that they enjoyed their mains. It was a lovely evening and I plan on bringing my relatives when they come visit later this month. Parking can be a challenge. Make sure you also have a reservation.

Hipster heaven on Lake Union. Great people watching. Great views of the lake and the north end of the Seattle skyline, Fun beach chairs to eat in, while facing the view. But the food is hit and miss. (So were the wines, although the mixed drinks were da bomb). We had a ten-course meal with a sampling of raw oysters, steamed clams, braised cod, some kind of octopus filet, huge beans, new potatoes, a couple of salads, and roast chicken. By the time the (actually tasty) chicken arrived, I had OD'd on the seafood (which I was not a huge fan of). Dinner dragged out over three hours. Sadly, I had to excuse myself before the final two courses of gelato and other sweets. Next time I will show up at 10 pm just in time for the chicken and gelato. $$$$$

Wonderful location, staff and food. The location provides an eye popping view of the Seattle skyline. We were challenging customers. We could not make up our mind on food, wine, ore even water...just one of the nights. Our server was great, she just rolled with us, gave us enough time to sort it out, but did not abandon us. We had fabulous cod, oysters and salads. However, the butterscotch dessert made me want to lick my plate. I know this is a weird observation, but the chairs are really comfortable and beautiful. All in all, a wonderful, relaxed evening.

There have been many restaurants in this location and Westward brings fresh face to the space. You can't beat the views, as other reviewers have indicated. The food was good but in a city with a zillion fabulous restaurants, I would pick others. it is incredibly loud in the space and the music was jarring, blaring, intended for a young set. The front door was also wide open on a warm-er spring day but gusty and cold for anyone who was subject to it inside. The wait staff were, in my opinion, inexperienced and overly casual. While we asked for everything to be delivered to our table at once, she opted instead to break up the meal into two servings. This left us confused as to whether or not she'd placed the correct order for us and then waiting until the second set of dishes arrived. The portions are gigantic and in my opinion overly so. While good, I would opt to go elsewhere during my next visit out.

The location was nice as was the interior of the restaurant. We sat in the small area the is like a deck. The chairs are metal and so uncomfortable it was hard to concentrate on the meal. The pacing of our four courses as really off. We got our oysters quite quickly and then a salad and a vegetable dish but then it was over 1/2 our for our main dishes to come out. We had to ask twice before the manager brought them out. They were presented well enough but then the taste! I was dining with another chef and granted we love out salt but everything was prohibitively salty. Duck, lamb, potatoes, chickpea fritters, delicata squash, grilled gem lettuce salad, all TOO SALTY. We are all puffed up this morning and I'm downing water like there's no tomorrow to try to rid my body of it! Also, the use of cumin was a bit overdone. In almost every dish. We had 2 desserts-Olive oil cake was ok.

Fabulous oyster bar with very knowledgeable shucked and bartenders ..,. we sampled many (2dozen for me) oysters from diverse locations in Washington ...., knowledgeable shockers describes aqua culture from which they came ... The ocean territory the differences in flavor was amazing... He also recommended a wine pairing which was a Greek wine

Great views / outdoor location on Lake Union. Area is full of transient RV's & homeless set up across the street from restaurant area (indicative of Seattle these days), making for uncomfortable parking. Menu is eclectic with portions that are small or at best modest for their designated large plates. Pricing is high. Once on sight, you'll love the views and vibe, but not that impressed with odd menu options, quantity and pricing.

Maybe because we visited on a Saturday and they only had a brunch menu, but the food was absolutely flavorless. The smoked fish, the Dutch pancakes, the gavelax, the oyster roll were all completely bland and made without love. Place to be avoided with children. The service was ok and the view is nice though.

$2 oysters, good beer and wine selection, didn't try the cocktails. The bar tender was really friendly. Pretty windy and cold day so everyone was inside, but the atmosphere was nice! I'll go back!

I love the Westward; this was my first visit but I'll be back soon. the menu is carefully thought out and the food beautifully cooked-don't miss the fresh oysters, wood fire roasted trout, or the vegetable sides you can order. Staff were attentive and genuinely friendly. And the setting, of course, is beautiful. If you choose outside dining there are fire pits and blankets should you need them. This whole restaurant seems well-managed and put-together.

This is a seafood restaurant and the fish did not disappoint us. The wood fired trout was the special and it seemed like everyone ordered it. For those who wanted protein, the lamb shoulder was also very good. We can in November, so while there was an outdoor fire pit, it wasn't worth dining outside but I'm sure it's a hot spot in the summer since the views were amazing. Recommended!

We had a delicious meal looking across Lake Union to the lights of downtown Seattle - sat at a counter for the view. The menu is limited - look it over before you go to be sure you see something you like. There was only one special not on the menu. Appetizers of radishes and goat butter, and pickled veggies were good, but $9-10? Overpriced. Dinners of roasted trout and sardine bruschetta were also delicious, and overpriced. Desserts of sorbet and loukoumades (like a greek donut hole, but better) were also quite good. At least the portions were reasonably generous. Overall the meal was good but felt fussy and expensive. I probably would not return.

We went there for brunch. We were able to get a good table inside with no wait. If you want to sit outside you have to get a reservation at least a week ahead. Food and drinks were high end and flavorful. I had the Dutch baby pancakes with peaches and cashews. My husband had the roasted lamb hash. Both were fantastic. Service was slow but we were there with friends and not in a hurry so we didn't care.

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon we went to Westward to have brunch. The brunch menu is very simple, but I enjoyed the octopus bolognese pasta. In any event the restaurant has a beautiful decor and great views.

So, we are visiting our daughter in Seattle and she suggests a restaurant - (you parents of older children know the drill - a place they have wanted to go, but it was too expensive, so they waited for mom & dad to come to town) Well, this is not one of those places, it is a wonderful, relaxed bistro, resplendent of the gifts of the sea found in Seattle, and you must visit!! We first luxuriated in Hama Hama oysters, served beautifully on the half-shell, followed by grilled octopus and excellent salmon gravlax. Bri, our server, was on top of her game, and recommended a wine that was perfect to this point. Mains included fish (halibut, mackerel and trout - all amazing) and duck and she also recommended (with help) a Pinot that rocked us all! Desserts were a knockout, but you already knew that!

Go for the view, or sit at the bar for an over priced cocktail, the scene and view are great. But please do not consider this a serious dinner spot. The food is over priced and always over cooked and over done. Why do they need to try so hard and be so proud of food that just doesn't make sense? It's like they tried to incorporate every trendy thing in food from last year and cram it into a menu that makes no sense. Really sad because this place could be so much more.

I have only come for brunch, but their food is pretty good. Be aware this is not a traditional brunch place. Their menu a bit eclectic, but good if you are willing to venture out from traditional eggs and bacon. The food is pretty amazing and they serve oysters which is one of my favorites. The space is very comfortable and they have an amazing outdoor space that looks at Lake union and has a fire pit. It truly is a place to check out, especially in the summer.

A great spot for happy hour and oysters. The drinks are hand crafted and delicious. The service is good too. Bummer that they do not take reservations so depending on when you want to come you may be in for a long wait. Especially for the adirondack chairs.

This restaurant is nestled on the water of Puget Sound providing an amazing view of downtown Seattle. It is darling inside and out. The staff is very friendly, the drink are delish & the baked clams were amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant

We dropped by after dinner to grab a drink & enjoy there beautiful night! We were told upon arriving that we couldn’t just sit at the bar as those too are reserved seats. They were busy but we expected to be able to sidle up to the bar & grab the chairs open to enjoy a cocktail. As we look confused a log opened up so they sat us there. We grabbed a drink but then quickly wrapped up as despite it being in the high 70s still they decided to turn on the fire pit. Tip: Not a place to drop in.

I have been a Westward patron since they first opened in 2013, as I live just a few blocks up the hill from their location. I was wowed at first...then overwhelmed with long waits when the NYT favorably reviewed it. I've watched it steadily decline over past couple years and had hoped new part-owner Renee Erickson would help turn it around to its original grandeur. Alas not. The menu was moderately interesting, but the quality and preparation were average at best. It's also become very over-priced (half roast chicken $30, small plate lettuce salad $14, cheapest rose bottle $60). Service was mixed. Worst, it's become a magnet for the bridge-and-tunnel crowd and the original Westward vibe is long gone. While I would still recommend the outdoor view ambience for a beverage on their Adirondack chairs, save your money and enjoy a better meal at the many nearby restaurants like Cantinetta, Joule or Whale Wins.

Great menu of small dishes. We enjoyed every dish we had. Lovely waterfront location. The service is best described as arrogant, or maybe even disdainful. From the front desk to our server, they clearly did not care about our experience. It puzzles me when a restaurant doesn’t make an effort to be welcoming to customers just as we are finally able to enjoy a full reopening.

Westward is one of our favorite spots in Seattle. Its view from the top of South Lake Union is unrivaled. The outdoor porch chairs and firepit is so much fun and the indoor ambianvce equally fun. We've been there on romantic dates, with friends and family, and have never been disappointed. They have a wonderful selection of seasonal oysters, a simple but delicious menu and have been known to put on the menu some of the better desserts around (I'm still waiting for them to bring back their butterscotch pot de creme).

As a party of four, we asked for a quiet spot. Not a chance - couldn't really even hear the waitperson. Appetizer was fine but the pork chops were undercooked - with the noise such we couldn't even hear across the table, we just ate some of the fringe and had it wrapped to go. The next day while eating the chickpeas, I bit into what turned out to be someone else's olive pit! No one at our table had olives at any time. Very sloppy.

3 adult family members enjoyed the outdoor seating facing the water. I used the available blankets against the cool breeze. Nice selection of oysters at the happy hour rates. Good food. Good drink. No problems.

Anyone who has read any of my other reviews knows that I never trash a place, but only review restaurants to which I would most happily send my friends and family, and ones to which I very much look forward to returning. This explains why my wife and I eat in countless restaurants but only have a limited number of reviews. So, with this self-imposed rule about restaurant reviews, I am excited to recommend to you Westward. You will most definitely be thankful for the recommendation and will undoubtedly be sharing Westward as a go-to place with your own friends and family living in or visiting the Seattle area. Westward was recommended to us by the two separate local sources we approached about our trip to Seattle. We most definitely enjoyed the in-town recommendations received – Seattle is a great town for foodies – but we need to return to Westward. Let me start with location -- Westward has that great flavor of a neighborhood hot spot because it is on the lake with a perfect view of the Seattle skyline. No, it is not downtown and walking distance from a downtown hotel, but when I reflect back on my trip to Seattle, I do not think about the uber cost, but about the great Westward experience – explaining why we chose to eat twice at Westward in the span of eight days. Because of the location and nature of the place, this is a spot for locals; we may have been the only tourists there. Not only does Westward have a great view of the city, but it has a section of Adirondack chairs available by advance reservation to sit and drink while enjoying the view and chill a bit or throughout the night – and even with a section available for small private parties. Westward also has an oyster bar with counter service, and both indoor and outdoor tables. We sat inside one night and outside another, with umbrellas and heat lamps as required at the outdoor area. Got it? Great build-out and great local vibe. Now let’s talk about the food and service. Both off the hook. The manager Austin clearly loves the place and exudes his spirit as he appears to be going around socializing with the guests (while simultaneously keeping his eyes on running what is a well-oiled machine). One night he was seen pouring shots from a bottle of his private stock into the mouths of kneeling patrons in the private party section of the Adirondack chairs – all who wound up laughing with joy and accomplishment after what seemed almost like a religious experience. The wait staff as well is top shelf. We were lucky to have Shane as our server both nights – he was spot on with his food recommendations and spoke intelligently about the wine selection made (a nice Greek white at a more than fair price point). There are no great restaurant experiences without a great server; thank you Shane. And even Shane’s co-workers, like Jonathan, would serve or clear as if we were guests in their own homes. Shane suggested that he would be happy 365 days a year having the lamb shoulder main course (braised lamb shoulder with tzatziki, excellent flatbread and herb salad), with the side asparagus dish (sautéed asparagus with smoked feta, arugula and crispy mushroom!). Oh, was he right! At least one of us did that on both nights, after having some, tasty scallop crudo, oysters or the fabulous steamed manila clams in Rainer-mushroom broth. But from the menu and what we witnessed around the room, any dish served would have made for a great meal. Quite simply, Westward rocks. You will be thankful for the recommendation and will be thanked by those fortunate others you send there.

My mom and I came here for Mother's Day brunch. By the time I made a reservation, the only option before, like, 3pm was when they opened at 10am. All of the staff we encountered were super personable. We felt like the breakfast menu was lacking. I kinda thought they might have some specials being Mother's Day but that wasn't the case. My mom got the french toast and I got the lamb shoulder hash. Both were okay but nothing great. The french toast didn't have much flavor and the lamb shoulder hash was largely composed of baby potatoes (though still good, I just didn't like how much of the meal was starch). Afterwards, we sat outside by the water in some chairs, enjoying the view and looking at the boats.

Westward has a fabulous lakeside setting & they take full advantage of their water views with outdoor seating as well as rows of Adirondack chairs. Unfortunately, I was not that impressed with a lot of the food we ordered. Chips served with the tonnato dip were greasy with a slightly-off tasting oil. The side dish of charred turnips & radishes was flavorless and the mushroom/corn/chevre combination on the rigatoni clashed instead of harmonized. The worst was the chocolate banana gateau served with lime gel. Sadly, this was served with a scoop of lime sorbet which completely overwhelmed any of the banana chocolate taste. There were some bright spots, and since both highlights of the meal were fish dishes, I am assuming that this is where the kitchen can shine. So perhaps the right direction to take here is to stick with the fish. The roasted mackeral with beets and lentils was excellent as was the salmon gravlax. Service was adequate and not particularly attentive. And while we would have probably given the server a 20% tip regardless having it added on for a two top was presumptuous.

Great spot on a sunny to soak up some rays and look out at the beautiful city of Seattle. We couldn't get a table (mostly communal) outside for brunch so booked inside, which was fine. Wait staff very professional and coffee good, and necessary after a couple mimosas! Avocado toast excellent, the Dutch Babies not was they usually look like (very flat, not big and puffy) but excellent. Bacon crispy, coffee good, have to wait in line if you don't plan ahead... what's to complain?

Have eaten here on a few occasions and it never disappoints. The space is outstanding and one of the best places in Seattle for dining outside. Right on the north shore of Lake Union.

It was great. We started with a smoked bean casserole and a celery root/clam thing. The beans were a 9. The celery thing, a 4 (too much lemon). For entrées, I had the seafood boil and it was incredible... a mountain of clams, crab legs and a sardine. It was a 10. My wife had the grilled steelhead which was good but mine was better. For dessert, we shared a pot de creme... another 10. Our table didn't have a view which was too bad. The service was good, made better because the manager checked on us several times. Also, my seafood boil was brought out by the chef... I always like the chance to chat with the chef. I'll give it a 9. I can easily imagine a blue sky day, sitting outside and eating and thinking it was amazing.

We had early reservations here on a very rainy week night, but our group of 2 had morphed into a group of 3. It was pouring out. The restaurant had lots of open seating all over the place. Yet, despite our reservations, we were told they could only accommodate our group of 3 in the "patio" area. While there were heaters out there, we were on non-cushioned chairs in a setting more like a crab shack. This is never a great start to a meal. The place never filled up, and there were plenty of "inside" seats. I really resent this type of treatment, particularly as a group of 3 is going to spend more than a group of 2. I ordered a Skiathos cocktail, which was then described as strong, and "like a martini" but more herbaceous. I couldn't tell if he thought I wouldn't like it or if he was just making sure I understood. It only had alcohol on the listed ingredients. I understood. Despite the "warnings", it was quite lovely, with unusual flavors. We also shared the grilled halloumi cheese which was served with dates, pistachios and a kind of date vinaigrette. This was delicious, with the hot cheese and the cold accompaniments. I could have easily eaten the whole plateful! (It came with 4 triangles of cheese). I ordered the pan roasted scallops and pork belly. The scallops and pork belly had fabulous flavors, but I found the pumpkin puree a bit too sweet for the rest of the flavors on the plate. Tasty on its own of course, but not together. My colleagues got the wood roasted chicken, which looked and was said to be delicious, and the whole trout, which also was perfectly cooked. We also got the salt roasted potatoes, which had a nice flavor but were chewy and somewhat dry. We opted for dessert. I was persuaded to get the butterscotch pot de creme which really was quite perfect with its sea salt, whipped cream, and shortbread accompaniment. My colleagues got the chocolate loukoumades, which they said were scrumptious! They ate them all down to the last smidgeon of chocolate bits. FYI: Don't order the espresso. Super bitter and almost undrinkable. The restaurant is directly on the water, and is a short walk from the University of Washington campus, so the setting is fantastic. I recommend this little place, even with its minor missed notes. The food is certainly well prepared and interesting. Their desserts are sublime. However, I do have to say that what I remember most is being relegated to sit in their "enclosed porch seating" as if being punished for making our reservation "one short" - particularly in the presence of a very empty dining room on this weekday evening. If they were trying to make a point, I am not sure what it was. My companions are awesome, and so we all were quite happy otherwise. Yet - the question remains about why they would treat us this way. So all in all, do go. Just be sure not to change the number of people in your party!

My son, who lives in Seattle, loves this place and wanted us to experience it while visiting. Reservations are a must! Service was top notch. The waiter even filleted our daughter-in-law's cooked fish table side, and he did a professional job. The Manila clams are deliciously delicate, as are the pork cheeks. We had a 2 year-old with us--no problem! Parking seemed limited. We will return on our next trip to Seattle.

On a sunny day they open up the doors and fill the outdoor patio with seating overlooking Lake Union. We only had drinks but the service was friendly and prompt. Parking is easy and the views are wonderful!

My wife and I really enjoyed Westward. Everything we ate was well prepared, beautiful and delicious. The facility was cool but we were there on such a cold night we did not get to spend much time outdoors (they had a fire going in case we wanted to).

Though we barely had an average experience here three years ago, we agreed to return recently with two friends, who really wanted to dine at Westward. We found the restaurant to be extremely loud and the menu rather limited. Portions, even our main course, arrived small with fairly high pricetags. One dish came inexcusably overcooked. We started at a table in the main dining room and simply could not hear each other because of loud music and voices. As we met to talk as well as eat, we asked if we could sit in the more-quiet atrium. The only space left there was a table for eight, where four customers already sat. We happily accepted this alternative, but the noise level remained fairly high. This space held only a few long tables and no decorations. Service proved to be excellent throughout our stay. Everyone was pleasant, professional, prompt and attentive. We started by ordering three appetizers to share. As expected, these were small portions. They consisted of octopus salad, Halloumi and a bean dish; all were nicely prepared, delicious and ranged in price from $12 to &20. Halibut, the one main course we opted for, arrived dry and way overdone. The portion seemed to be about the same size as the appetizers. There is no reason for fish to be overcooked, especially when it is priced at $35. My husband and I shared a butterscotch pot du creme ($10) for dessert. It was pure ambrosia, but so small that we each got only two teaspoons of this dessert. The whipped cream on the side was a bigger portion than the pot du creme. A major plus for Westward is its location on the shore of Lake Union with myriad chairs outside facing the water and city skyline. A fire pit provides warmth and atmosphere in cooler weather. Plenty of free street parking exists.

I have been here a couple times for small plates & love it! The food is great (even for vegetarians), the service is wonderful & the view from the patio can't be beat! There are blankets for sitting outside and the fire pit is really cozy. Will be back again & again!

Nice view, nice staff, modern design/decor. Mostly seafood. The really need to add some green veggie options ( green beans, broccoli, asparagus, brussels sprouts -- something). Big portion size disparities -- chicken was huge, other plates vary from small to medium sized. Same with desserts, not consistent at all. You can't tell how much food you are getting with any particular dish. They warn you that everything is served family style, but you need to have a tapas mindset where you order some things and plan on ordering more if you are still hungry.

Beautiful restaurant and views. I enjoyed their happy hour and cocktails. The food wasn't my favorite, due to personal preference. However, for any out of town visitor I would highly recommend grabbing a cocktail, sitting by the fireplace to take in our beautiful city.

My wife and I have gone a number of times and the experiences vary. Sometimes it's excellent with great service other times it feels a bit pretentious and over priced. We love the location and the outdoor seating, but not our favorite.

As you may have guessed, the location was awesome. Great views across the water, over some moored boats & toward downtown Seattle. Outdoor seating & fire pit is perfect, and the interior oozes cool. Food & wine, although fairly expensive, was tasty. You do normally get what you pay for, and we certainly did here. We had travelled from Australia and were brought here by some local friends with their one year old, which didn't seem to bother staff & they were happy to accommodate. Bring your special person or your visiting family/friends (and get them to pay like we did...). Oh, and get some oysters to start!

I had dinner last night with my grandparents and sister at Westward. They do not take reservations night of so we took our chances and showed up. We boated to the restaurant as it is waterfront in Lake Union - north side. There was an hour water for a table so we sat at the bar in front of chefs making food. After about 10 mins we luckily go an indoor table. The food was fantastic! We had 2 dozen assorted oysters which were top notch. I had the octopus salad which was delicious. The salmon was also wonderful. I had a bite of my grandfathers chicken which was AMAZING. We had the pickled veggies to snack on and the assorted cheeses for dessert. All GREAT. It is on the pricey end but well worth it. Very fresh and awesome location.

Came here after seeing it mentioned on EaterSeattle. We were not disappointed! Walked-in, and were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar, right next to the open kitchen. The bartender (forget his name!) was one of the best we have ever had. Friendly, funny, attentive and very knowledgable. The food was really good, the views are amazing, and the prices are very fair for what you get. Really hope we have a chance to come back!

We were taken there by our daughter & son-in-law who have lived in the Seattle area for many years. They knew the place and we were not disappointed with their choice of a spot. Service was not rapid but we were not in a hurry. Servers were cheery. Food was excellent as is the setting on Lake Union. We were the first group to enter and by the time we finished the place was quite busy. Go early.

I've dined here several times. Amazing view, great ambience, like a photo shoot in "Sunset" Magazine. But wow...hideously expensive and I have a couple of significant gripes. During the summer, no one will pick up the phone. You can only communicate via e-mail. (Really?) I visited the restaurant earlier this evening for a couple of drinks on the water. Two Hendricks gin & tonics (doubles) were $61. That is crazy. Waitress was haughty and unfriendly. You are "not allowed" to go to the bar inside the restaurant. Perhaps it would have been worth the extra drive to go to Ray's Boathouse; they are reasonably friendly and a far better value than Westward.

Are you a 20-something tech guy looking for a nice place to bro out with your homeys? Then this could be the place for you. Are you a tourist looking for a special dining experience? You may find this restaurant less than ideal. In our Saturday night experience, while the setting was striking and the food quality good, the server was dismissive tp the point of rudeness, and the staff failed to exert themselves to find us a table over a period of 2 hours despite having told us the wait was 45 minutes. Pretty obviously they let others who came after have tables instead of us—maybe we did not meet the right hipster demographic? In short, a disappointing experience that could have been truly special with some attention and respect on the restaurant’s part. I will not return to this restaurant, and do not recommend it for most other potential customers.

A great location with a super fun ambiance. 5 stars for the decor, views, outdoor and indoor seating, the art behind the bar, and the laidback style. Our service was very good. 4 stars for the attentive servers running all over (although hard to spot at times since they are dressed in regular clothes with no name badges). The food was meh to me. Lots of different flavors going on that felt misplaced at times (pickled crudite appetizer was a little off for me). I had the rainbow trout, and it had no flavor and was dry. I grew up on the Mississippi River, and my mom prepared rainbow trout in a very different way that had this beat. Favorite items on the menu for me was the grilled octopus, the fried potatoes, and the oysters. Cool place on a great weather day for a group, but the food was average in my opinion.

Gorgeous view of Seattle, we were there on a perfectly clear and sunny day, boats come and go and seating outside include Adirondack chairs looking out to the Sound. Food was outstanding and a breakfast bourbon drink set the stage for a perfect morning.

My sons wanted oysters, so we stopped here. They tasted three kinds of fresh, raw oysters. We shared tuna tartare. Raw fish is not something I normally eat, but my boys enjoyed tasting the difference between the types of oysters. The glass of wine I enjoyed was absolutely delicious, a Benoit Roseau Syrah de Rosete.

Our party of two had a wonderful, cozy, delicious dinner at Westward last night. We started with cocktails (the Adirondack Highball and the Lucky One, I think), both of which were tasty but pretty sweet. We had a yellowtail crudo with our drinks - the beet accoutrements weren't really needed in our opinions, but the fish and grapefruit paired perfectly. For dinner, we moved on to wine and ordered the Wood Fired Gigantes and Whole Trout to share. The beans were insanely good - I could've eaten 3 orders of them. And the fish was equally amazing. Our server filleted the fish table side, giving us tips for filleting our own fish at home. It was perfectly cooked and was just so tasty with the variety of citrus fruits on top. To cap off the evening, we grabbed two glasses of red and enjoyed them outside by the fire pit. The perfect ending to an amazing meal!

We stopped by for drinks, they were having a Veuve Cliquot party. We had some champagne and a great time. The food is great, try the rainbow trout. The ambience was great and our bartender was helpful and friendly. Definitely going back for brunch soon. The wait for getting a table is ridiculous, I would HIGHLY recommend reservations in advance.

Fun, casual experience - great décor, food and bar. Fresh and local menu. Trout was wonderful. Even more fun - the outdoor patio makes for a great front-row set on the lake and an unobstructed view of the city skyline. Perfect for a warm summer day.

Beautiful setting by the water and seats around an oyster shell surrounded open fire. We came here for drinks and oysters while enjoying the sunset. The inside bar is nicely decorated and cosy, the staff being friendly and helpful picking the right oysters based on our taste requirements.

Viewing the Seattle Skyline via Lake Union is truly spectacular. This was the highlight of the evening, with the bottle of Pinot Noir we enjoyed at "Canlis" on our way back to Hotel 1000. Westward is highly overrated. We did not have a waiter, but several. One served my girlfriends first course, while I was waiting for mine. That can happen, but is rather unfortunate. The vegetables were cold. Not lukewarm, cold. No surprise, as we saw several dishes on the counter waiting to be picked up for quite a long time. We asked for warm vegetables. When they were returned a little later, they were cold. Not lukewarm, cold. Groundhog day. When the vegetables returned for the second time, the were burned (see picture). In the meantime we asked for a wine cooler that is usually delivered if a bottle of white wine is ordered. My main course was the lamb, heralded by one of our waiters as "signature dish". Well, maybe it was. Look at the picture yourself. I did not finish it. The dish, relatively expensive with $42 arrived with flatbread (how creative) and tzatziki. The tzatziki evidently came directly out of the fridge. It was icecold. Nice side for a warm piece of meat. We were stunned. When we left we chatted with another waiter. It went like this: "This really isn't international standard!" "I know" he responded. Westward is the view and nothing but the view. Stay clear!

I guess I succumbed to the hype. I was really excited to try Westward. It's not their fault the sunny warm weather had turned windy, rainy and chilly. I would return to be outside on a gorgeous day, so close to Lake Union. Our dinner experience, on a Saturday night, was ho-hum. My husband grills more skillfully. My trout was swimming in melted butter. If I had been a child, I might have blotted it with my napkin. The veggies were EXCELLENT. I had expected to say that about the fish but all three of us preferred the veggies to the fish. I'd recommend it for a drink and an app on a sunny day. That's it.

Perfect location at the north end of Lake Union. It has a great outdoor space including Adirondack chairs lined up with unobstructive views of downtown Seattle and a roaring fire pit. The oyster bar is where I hung out and the bartenders/oyster shuckers were very personable and responsive. Good food, good atmosphere. Highly recommend it.

First time at Westward and the food was delicious! We started with the salmon tartine. It was beautifully presented and tasted just as good. Followed with the lamb dish and my husband had the ribs, The lamb was good but the ribs were out of this world. Good service and great Seattle views !

Sitting in Adirondack chairs looking over the lake toward downtown Seattle is great on a nice day. Outside seating for dinner is available at long tables where you will be next to another party. Inside seating is a bit grim. The food is good and priced a bit high. Halibut was cooked just right on a bed of couscous, and the nettle risotto was interesting. Cocktails were heavy on campari

My spouse and I have wanted to try out this restaurant for a while. It’s hard to get a reservation so I booked far out for our anniversary. I was clear in reservation this was a big anniversary for us. We arrived 20 minutes early. You are directed to hostess immediately so we were pleased our table was ready. We were also surprised given that I had asked for a special table, that we were seated in back near bar and restrooms. Our waiter plopped menus down and gave us no information or explanations about choices. I didn’t even know there were oysters until I saw some go by later. I love oysters... too bad for me I guess. Our waiter was so uncommunicative halfway through dinner I let him know this was a special night for us hoping to change his attitude which was ruining our night. No luck. As far as food goes the menu is limited and labeled one side small and the other large. Since we hadn’t been here we weren’t sure if these were shared plates entrees or appetizers. Had to pry this out of waiter. We ordered a delicious clam appetizer with a curry broth and grilled bread as well as a fried cheese appetizer with greens. For main dishes we ordered a mushroom pasta dish and a lamb dish. Both were okay. Flavors in lamb were too intense. Mushroom dish was nothing special though the texture of pasta was nice. Probably would not order either again though. After dinner our waiter was drinking at the bar. Not really sure what was going on. Another waitress was helping us. I explained to her our frustration and that we wanted check and were not looking for a discount. If this were my restaurant and people came for an expensive meal I’d want to know they were disappointed. She did bring us champagne and a dessert. I believe there was a discount taken off bill but it wasn’t clear as there was no breakdown. We appreciated that she at least tried to make it right.

I wrote this same review on YELP just to make sure it is seen. We were excited to get a reservation (which are hard to come by) and was able to get in after emailing Westward and requesting a date/table for 3. From the very beginning the experience was a disaster. No parking close by and when you approach the restaurant it looks closed. Even the light on the sign is off. My mother who is 88 YO had a very difficult time negotiating the walk to the door. Upon entering, we were asked for our reservation, and the hostess then turned and walked away - we were not asked to follow her. So we looked around a bit and then found her outside in the plastic tent. The music was blaring and the heater above our table was turned off. She turned it to low and we asked if it could go higher - she said that we would regret it if we went any higher. It was cold, raining, and the music too loud to talk less than a yell. Then the server came and pointed to the menu with a pen and circled the items he said were "good." None was a main course. Not sure why he would do that. We ordered the bib salad, corn fitters main, the salmon main, and the duck. We also had fingerling potatoes and the bread. My mother requested a glass of chardonnay and the response was that Westward does not serve chardonnay by the glass. Who doesn't serve a chardonnay by the glass???? I asked for a bombay saphire martini. They did not have Bombay, and the TOLD me "I will get you Hendricks" Not a choice nor a description of other gins they had. The food came - bread was good, potatoes were hot but nothing special, and the salad was spicy. Not too spicy but spicy enough to make it uncomfortable. It was also massive - something that was huge compared to everything else. But the spice made it virtually inedible. The mains came next. The salmon was cold - we were told it was supposed to be sushi-like in the middle but this dish was dead cold. The duck was a bit over-cooked but tasted okay - however the sauce it sat on was absolutely horrible - a bitter brown gray mess that infused everything on the plate making it taste bad. On top of that, it was spicy like the salad. I like spice - but not in every thing I order! It did not indicate there was spice in it (nor did the salad). Mom said the fritters were good but nothing to write home about. We also could not hear very well, and my mom, who already has hearing problems could not talk to us (she laughed and said: What else can possibly go wrong). That was then my other dining companion leaned over and said he felt sick and needed to go to the car. He thought it might have been the salmon. I think - this experience was possibly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. All staff were pretentious as hell, the food was bad (literally - bad) and there was absolutely no view looking through a clear plastic tent. Oh, and I asked politely can you turn the music down a bit. They said no, the music is as low as it can go. Really - the music has a level setting that is not able to be adjusted - baloney. Anyway - I will say that restaurants struggle serving and being all they can be in a pandemic. I know this - but the level of badness at Westward is well beyond any excuse this diner can fathom. $250 bucks of a wasted time in my view. Don't recommend and would highly avoid.

This is my very favorite place to chill and have a cocktail. They have brought the beach bar to Seattleites. It feels so great to be able to sit and enjoy all the boating activity on Lake Union while sipping cocktails and shooting oysters. Delicious food! The price... well... worth it!

Real estate number one rule - location location location - this place has location sewn up they are waterfront - but they follow up with food and wine which is top notch - I had the lamb and I would say the best lamb dish ever.

We were lucky enough to have a set menu and I was lucky enough to try everything on that set menu. I highly recommend the wood fires gigantes beans. They have a tomato base sauce along with feta cheese and bread crumbs which was a lot of fun textured and flavors on the tongue. I also has the braised prom cheeks that were accompanied by pole beans and crushed pistachio and fish sauce. So yummy. They also do homemade gelato and sorbet for dessert. The atmosphere was great and had gorgeous views of the lake with a beach area. Patio was also gorgeous. Fun and attentive waitstaff as well. I cannnot wait to go back for date night.

On my recent trip, I visited Seattle with a local, and she showed us all the cool places outside of downtown Seattle. After seeing Gas Works Park, we walked to this restaurant. We sat outside and ordered drinks and food. OMG. It was so relaxing sitting by the water, in comfortable adirondack chairs, enjoying our afternoon with each other. The food is good. The service is good. The outside seating is perfect.

Reservations made in advance and even with 1 week ahead we were only able to get 9:30 seating but it was worth it. Went there with 2 families and their teen children. Since we wanted to enjoy the summer night we started at Gasworks Park and strolled along the water and up the hill. Parking is available all along Northlake and we chose the half way point between the restaurant and the Gasworks Park. We sat on the grass at the park, talked, enjoyed the phenomenal views of boats, city lights and just took in a gorgeous summer night in the city. We walked slowly to the restaurant; arrived a little early and were seated in chairs with a drink menu. The adirondack chairs are outside the restaurant and face the lake and sit on gravel. There are also some benches that circle around an outdoor gas fireplace. Have to say, the wait to eat and drinking/sitting outside was the best! We will go back for that alone. Once in the restaurant, it's very very warm inside. Almost a little too uncomfortable but that's because of the heat wave. I bet when it's cooler outside, it's not so bad. Food was good, not excellent, but good. Home made chips with a tasty tuna, cream, onion, dill dip. The yellow tail crudo was okay but missed the mark with too much cherries. We had trout that was deboned at the table quite nicely. Between the trout and halibut, I would lean towards the halibut. The trout was a big one and my daughter and I could have shared one. One person ordered the lamb shoulder and was very please with it. Two fried potato bowels were eaten by 8 people declared tasty. Service was excellent. Oysters were fresh and the mixed drinks with beer selection was good. Like I said, we'll go back. It is not fine dining and not cheap but was a lazy, comfortable way family occasion with a great summer night in Seattle on the lake.

Plan to spend money and still worship at the alter of Westward, where food is taken seriously and the atmosphere is divine. I had the tiniest Hama Hama oysters with the perfect mimolette sauce, black cod, and a chevre salad, with wine-$100, and worth it. When I arrive at the restaurant before 5:00 PM, there was a line twenty people deep waiting to get in. I stood in line for a least 30 minutes to score a spot at the oyster bar. The bar feature old five and dime swivel seats so you can face the view or the bar, at will. I like to be close to my food, so this spot is sweet.

A 30 minute drive from downtown Seattle and you are at Westward a quaint and authentic restaurant with an outdoor chill area and cozy indoor atmosphere. We had a shared menu - which I'm not a big fan of but will not hold against them. Getting seated was a bit of a hassle. The food was OK but it is the view of the Seattle skyline across the water and the authentic atmosphere that makes this place worth a visit.

First time visit with some local friends. Amazing decor all around and the views of seattle were incredible from the patio and dining area. Food overall was very good including lots of fusion plates. Excellent service over all and will be back here again soon. Recommended.

We had a great time. Not a big menu but everything was superb. The cod was superb as were the pork cheeks. We wolfed down all out many appetizers- thought the tartar was fantastic and the large beans were amazing. We had a wonderful Sancerre at a good price- and the pot a crème ( butterscotch) was particularly swell. Our waiter was really professional, gave great advice and we enjoyed his company. The city sparkled in the distance. This is my new favorite restaurant near the University of Washington/

Wonderful selection of oysters on the half shell with 4-6 p.m. Happy Hour prices. Plentiful outside sitting with waterside view of Lake Union. Prompt and friendly servers. After enjoying oysters, a very good seafood menu. Good wine selection, but be careful. We ordered wine by the glass (pricey), and should have ordered by the bottle. One of the very best seafood restaurants in Seattle.

Enjoyed an exceptional meal that began with cocktails and fresh oysters followed by a first dish of octopus grilled to perfection and served over orzo, tomatoes and saffron with a side streak of delicious black squid ink sauce. The second dish of whole oven roasted golden trout was filleted expertly at our table by our friendly server and consumed with gusto. Can't wait to go back!

Had a scrumptious dinner at Westward two weeks ago. Their bread is absolutely out of this world as was the simple greens and herbs salad. It was so simple- just a beautiful pile of greens and a simple vinaigrette. One of the best salad I've ever had. Wonderful wine list and bar. It was raining and we weren't able to sit outside for very long but the view of Lake Union is just beautiful. We will definitely be back. Just a note – my husband and I had booked a table for two on a busy Thursday night and our daughter ended up wanting to join us. Despite having a completely booked dining room the hostesses found a table to squeeze in our daughter. We very much appreciate their effort.

Went for our anniversary. Pretty empty this time of year. However, got seating with three other couples and way too close for any conversation (other than listening to the folks on either side of us). Nothing to really eat if you have celiac disease. We got up, left and went to Daniel's

Lori and I ate here 10/6/2016 and were very impressed. Nothing either one of us had was short of spectacular. Based on the various items we ordered, the food can be a bit spicy - but is always very fresh and perfectly prepared. Apparently everything is prepared exactly "from scratch", and the kitchen got a bit backed up when we were there (perhaps because the place was packed). Service is wonderful - knowledgeable, thoughtful, polite - and watching the kitchen work was a lot of fun. Parking can be a bit difficult, and first time customers might drive right by the place without seeing it.

Food and views great. The hype, however, and the reality, seems somewhat separated. It is often crowded..... the views are iconic seattle. The food is good, but overrated for the site.

Situated in one of the most attractive view spots in Seattle along the waterfront down from the old Gasworks Park is Westward. Sporting a terrific outdoor eating area (with its own sand beach) and a wide-open airy interior space that's excellent for entertaining large groups, Westward is a gastronomic toy store, you can sit and watch the oysters being prepared or sit over in the kitchen and prep area and watch how all of the cooked meals are expertly prepared and presented. Frankly I could sit and enjoy one of their signature cocktails and watch them simply prepare short ribs with the same enthusiasm as watching the Super Bowl. But the views (outdoor and indoor) are only the setup for your delightful meal, their oyster choices and preparation are first rate and their choices of meat, fish and poultry dishes are always imaginative and delicious. Their grilled octopus salad is light and superb, their braised lamb shoulder is straight out of Greece and coupled with nice weather and a nice Chianti you may just think you are in Mykonos. Providing its not wet outside, I've found that Westward opens their outdoor seating whenever possible, and that's a rare treat in Seattle.

We were only in Seattle for two days and had to pick an oyster place for one of the days. A local recommended this place and we loved it. The staff was great: friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. My wife loved several of the types of oysters from the oyster bar and our young man server knew all about the subtle differences among them and how to pair with a good beverage. We liked the small plates approach with a variety of choices but not overwhelming in numbers. I had the chorizo as I don't care for oysters and it was quite tasty. We were there around 1 pm on a Saturday and it was not crowded, had a great view out the from the window seats. A great relaxing time. No loud music and plenty of time to chat and take in the local cuisine.

Executive chef Zoe Antonitsas, made the visit worth while. Personal service and professional attitude towards foreign visitors from outside America, gave the best shell seafood experience in Seattle.Perfect location for food from the region, and ruff enough interior to get the feel of it.Being on the water, and westward winds to accompany the experience, they got something to offer more than food.

I always mark this as a must-do spot for travelers in Seattle because it's quintessential Seattle - you get to be down right on the water in Lake Union, cozy up to a fire pit or have a sunset cocktail in an adriondack chair, eat good food. It's pricey so don't expect a cheap meal, but a nice evening in the city literally steps from the water. Take the time - it's worth it.

We went here on our anniversary using a gift certificate we were given for $150. By the time we had paid the bill we needed to add an extra $100. We consumed a dozen oysters, one other small appetiser and two entres, one of which was a risotto and the other a small piece of fish. We consumed a bottle of the least expensive wine on the menu. For desert we ordered a cheese plate and my husband had coffee. Portions, as I said, are meager, which, as we are older, was enough food for the two of us, but anyone younger might be rather shocked. Every bite was absolutely delicious, except for the cheese which was very ordinary. We had a lovely time.

This is the ultimate kick back and enjoy life restaurant. Sit at the bar, order your favorite cocktail (mine is the Dirty Martini), have a dozen oysters, have the Beans Side Dish...Amazing!! and then split your choice of an entree with your significant other. The last time we were there, 2 weeks ago, we split the Trout! Just wonderful, wonderful food and atmosphere. IF it is not raining, then head out to the FIREPIT for an after dinner drink too.

The location could not be better, especially if the weather is nice. There are not many outside tables and I am not certain if reservations for outdoor tables are accepted. The wine list is limited but they have some less common selections and the offerings are reasonably priced. The clams were good and the lambing pork sausage was delish. Grilled Halloumi cheese was chewy and lacked flavor. The forest mushroom risotto had a green color, so so flavor, and a pasty texture. The braised lamb shoulder was very good. Oysters were as fresh as could be, shucked just before being served, but they are several $ each. For the portion size, the food is on the pricey side.

My boyfriend insisted we make it to Westward during our long weekend trip because I would love it. It wasn’t open the first day we passed through but we were able to hit it on the way home. He wasn’t wrong! Mimosas, avocado toast, and baby Dutch pancake. Yum! The Avocado toast was piled high with scrambled eggs and avocado. He got the Dutch baby pancakes because he said I had to try them. Heavenly! The view was beautiful and the servers were attentive and friendly.

Poor service. Unfriendly. Small portions. Six of us arrived by bicycle ready to have dinner and drinks. We were not welcomed. spending $150 in an empty t Restaurant we spending

Come watch all the activity on Lake Union (with the Seattle skyline in the background) at this charming seafood forward joint. Fun adirondack chairs to kick back in, a fire pit (and blankets) to take away the Seattle Chill. Inside is reminiscent of Wes Anderson movie set; charming and quirky and very nautical. Did I mention the food is amazing too? Oysters, grilled octopus, gravlox, and other non seafood items make this menu have something for everyone. They also have great cocktails & wine.

I penned an early less than glowing review for Westward. the view has always been awesome, but at the time it was pretentious and just not great. We went back, and with new management, it was a treat. The menu still falls short of 5 stars to me, but the attitude is gone, what they did was really nicely executed, and just a great experience. I still say go for the bar and the view. Because unless its 80 degrees you will be sitting inside with little if any view, and a low ceiling. But with the great changes, I felt compelled to provide updated comments. Well done.

After reading great reviews about Westward, I squeezed it into my itinerary during our trip to Seattle. We arrived without reservation and were sat right away (it was early evening on a Sunday). We opted for outdoor seating which made it nice to enjoy the weather and overlook the water. We started with oysters which were overpriced for their quality and taste. For $3.50ea these oysters were just fine. They came with lemon and an extremely basic vinaigrette. They also could have been cleaned up a bit better as I kept getting some of the grit in my mouth. For the entree I got the Halibut on couscous. I haven’t had couscous like that before but it was very good as was the fish. By the end of our meal we each had a drink we wanted to enjoy and asked to get moved to the lawn chairs by the water but were told there was a 30 min wait time even though we saw multiple chairs that had been free for quite some time. Our interaction with the staff at this time was unpleasant. The girl at the front stand came off quite rude.

So many places to choose in Seattle. I'd suggest you stop by Westward for dinner. The menu is simple but each dish is put together with a ton of thought. Great views of the Seattle skyline (possible good sunset depending on weather). Nice area outside with fire-pit for after dinner.

If you live in Seattle or visiting, this is a great place to experience the skyline views of Seattle but also right on the lake. Food is really good here, from the lamb dish to the fresh oysters to the appetizers. One of our favorites in Seattle!

Expected more. Quite limited menu but plates are intended for sharing. Good service and nice vibe. View of downtown at night and outdoor tables in the summer.

Beautiful location on the lake. Very few dinner menu choices and no specials. Pricey with "burger joint"feel interior of long tables, no linens, etc. Food was good but did not inspire a possible return.

This is my second review of Westward... the view is still great. We have been to Westward several times, on different days of the week and have enjoyed consistently good service and food on each occasion. This week we returned with an out-of-town guest, high expectations and a taste for our favorite braised lamb shoulder. We did not receive the usual warm welcome, did not recognize any of the friendly staff, and were treated with an actual scoff from one of the servers early in the meal and then handed off to a myriad of different servers. There were mistakes made with our orders in two of the courses and an attitude of arrogance and condescension not displayed on previous visits. We were seated by the large view windows, at a table that had a “reserved” sign on it. Since the restaurant “doesn’t reserve specific tables," the hostess first asked the manager if the table was, indeed, available. I asked for clarification, thinking that if reservations were possible we would be inclined to request a similar table in the future. The question was met with an awkward dismissal / non-response. The braised lamb, ordered by all 3 people in our party, was cooked nicely in two out of three. The third serving was charred on the outside and dry. These are not cheap plates and one has the right to expect the food to be at a standard reflected by the price. We none-the-less did not complain or mention our disappointment. Maybe we went on an evening when all “regular” staff was not working. If the restaurant doesn’t function on such nights, it just doesn’t function. All restaurants can have evenings where they are not at their best, but there is no excuse for staff attitudes that make clients uncomfortable. I am a disappointed patron who will never return. I can no longer recommend this restaurant.
The restroom...
Food was ok, but over the top on the trend level. Too much going on on all the plates. Trying often times too hard. Sort of like someone took each dish and said "this is great! But not trendy enough for Seattle. Let's try Harder, much harder!! Add more avocado, more flowers, designer herbs, organic mishmash and free trade sea salt! Right. Anyway, Fish wasn't as firm and meaty as I would expect (cod). The dish could benefit if the ingredient list was halved and the focus was placed back on the fish and preparation itself. Simple. This is supposed to be a fish restaurant, not a pea purée or white creamed polenta restaurant (which, by the way were the stars of the dish if not a little watery in their preparation...). In fact, most of the dishes appeared to be overly complicated. A good reminder that garnish is just that...garnish! Not the main focus and shouldn't ever be. If I'm paying $30 for cod, it better be pretty close to the best cut and preparation I've ever had because cod is a cheap, simple fish whose freshness and firm meaty texture are its chief attributes. However despite the overly fussy presentations filled with ingredients that both left us both puzzled and diminished, the Restroom situation was the topic of the evening between us. Our bill for 2 topped $250, yet I had to wait in line for the restroom for over 15 minutes while my date languished in her own company. Not appropriate for this level of restaurant. 15 minutes, by the way, is an eternity when you are on a date. What does she do for 15 minutes on her own? Check her phone? Contemplate life? Wonder with whom and where her next date will be? You keep looking back like, "are you ok sitting there by yourself ? I'm fine, don't worry about Me.. just waiting in line to take a pee! Only 3 more lads in the queue" right... Also, I wore a dinner jacket. Probably a mistake. The lad sitting at the bar fondling his date, bent over with his crack hanging out whilst slurping oysters couldn't care less what I or anyone else was wearing. To summarise, an amazing totally typical Seattle 'hot spot.' Tries too hard, food just OK, prices are the only extraordinary part of the evening ($9 for a beer?!) with inadequate restroom facilities. Atmosphere is standard Seattle dual-income-no-kids (and no concept of reality or the world around them) My advice? Be sure to bring your man bun and take a leak before arriving...
