Find out where the name came from, & enjoy!

By Paul M |

Food was terrific! We went there for our sons birthday & it was a great choice. All our entrees were excellent. I had the OMG burger, it was fantastic. The salmon & ‘serve it up’ Cuban were also top notch. Save room for the Whisky Cake & you’ll see why they named the place! It’s one of the best deserts I’ve tasted. Our server was very good & attentive.

Great vibe and delicious lunch

By renarr |

Went for lunch while in town at a friend’s recommendation. Neat location and great atmosphere. We got a sunny table overlooking the shops. Nitro porter was dark and creamy. OMG burger was huge and OMG so delicious! Waitress was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately no room for signature dessert-as see picture for the size of the burger with a large serving of fries! Yum!!

Fabulous dinining!

By Sue W |

Fabulous place to eat! However, I would highly recommend making reservations hours in advance. Each time I have been here there was a 3 hour + wait! The whiskey cake is amazing!

Super unique place

By Lscottie |

Super fun place with unique decor and menu. Brunch has mimosa and Bloody Mary bar. Huge whiskey and liquor selections. Creative menu with fresh ingredients. Sandwiches are awesome.

Very fresh food with unique menu

Finally decided to check out this La Contera restaurant in our quest to check out the different food offerings in the area. We had lunch here arriving around 11:15 on a Monday. The restaurant was full by noon with people waiting. Service was fast and efficient. They make a big deal about local sourced food and it showed. I had the pickled rachel, pastrami sandwich and declared it one of the best that I have had in the city. My partner had the OMG 2,9 burger and was not able to finish it even after removing the top bun. We both tried the kettle chips. My partner loved them while I should have selected the fries. We both passed on the whiskey cake but saw others with it and it looked really good and decadent. We will have to return and try one between us. We were seated next to the windows overlooking the other stores and people wandering around. The restaurant is on the upper level of the outdoor center which provided entertainment while we waited for our food which came out fairly quickly. We will be back.

Great steaand great service

By Steve D |

The place was crowded but our group of 7 made reservations. All had the ribeye steak and there were many compliments and no complaints. The appetizers were good and the staff was responsive despite the crowd. Prices were reasonable and you need to try the whiskey cake. Real cream, nothing from a can or tub.

Good Fun Spot in La Cantera

By Jennbthetraveller |

Whiskey cake is one of the few La Cantera restaurants I would recommend. If you're into good drinks and a fun, young atmosphere after work or with friends, try this place. I ordered the grains salad with shrimp, and my husband got the market fish (OK). The price is mid-range to high as it's in La Cantera, which is a higher-end mall. Other than that, it's an alright place for lunch or dinner. 5/5

Monthly Lunch with Neighbors

Ten of us enjoyed excellent service from Grayson, Healthy delicious food choices, shared two servings of Whiskey Cake with Caramel sauce, toasted pecans and whipped cream. Three Little Pigs, small pork sliders. Grilled Salmon with Ancient Grains was excellent. Interesting decor, highly recommend.

Great restaurant

By Kathi W |

This was the best restaurant we ate at in San Antonio. I really wish we had one where we live. The food is farm to table. Everything was fresh and healthy. But, still delicious. Even the drinks were locally sourced.

Great Whiskey Selection and FTF food selections

By kimbuckeye |

We have actually visited this place twice in one week! Their whiskey selection was unbelievable with bartenders that know their craft! I have not had a bad food dish here. It is farm-to-fork fare. And, save room for the whiskey cake because it is truly divine!

Wow Just wow! Please open in Fort Worth

By Dalestacey |

I love fresh veggies and this place is farm to table! Everything. We tried was fantastic! The flight of Whisky was a little stingy though. The salmon and short ribs were amazing. The spaghetti squash, brussel sprouts and deviled eggs were fantastic! The atmosphere and vibe was great and service was excellent. The creativity all around the place was cool too! Look up at the ceiling, look at the table decorations, look at the couches and decor! Oh yeah and don’t forget the Whisky CAKE! I did not try it as I am doing Keto but my friends did and they said it was great! Also if there is a drink you want, you can get it here! Excited to go again this weekend as we are back in San Antonio for business!

Staff went out of their way

By bob s |

Our family had reservations after our granddaughter graduation from UTSA. There was a mix up regarding the size of our group and what they could accommodate, however the hostess, our waitress and the manager on duty went out of their way to figure out a way to accommodate us - all seated together no less! They turned what could have been a crummy experience into another wonderful chapter of our granddaughters graduation weekend. We are so grateful. And the food wax reall, really good!!!

Love the vibe here!

By Seunghye H |

I was in San Antonio for work so the evenings I was solo. I walked in on a Wednesday night and sat at the bar. The bar area is huge and there were plenty of seats. The restaurant itself was very busy. I wish I liked whiskey as they had everything you can think of. I enjoyed the mango habanero margarita and the chicken kale salad. The salad was very fresh and delicious. It was a huge portion as well. The restaurant does get very loud. Would highly recommend if you are in San Antonio!

It's all about the cake!

By Evans1988 |

Great atmosphere; looks like a "Texas-Pub," some industrial touches, lots of aged wood, comfortable, relaxed ambiance. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and the deviled eggs. They were absolutely delicious! We ordered several sandwiches with their own kettle- fries and or soup of the day. For dessert we had to ordered the Whiskey Cake! It's all about the cake! You will not be disappointed.

O.... M... G...

By Starryskies227 |

I consider myself (and the husband) as food connoisseurs. That being said, we were blown away by this place. It is a farm to fork concept with a smaller food menu but everything they have is done well. They also have an extensive drink selection. We ate the fried green tomatoes - the sauce that came with it was so delicious. My husband ordered chicken and waffles and I had the chicken and cheese sandwich. Both were mouth watering. However, the absolute best thing we had by far was the whiskey cake dessert. It is possibly the best dessert I’ve ever had. We will definitely be back!!!

Fantastic

By Shelby M |

Every time I go to San Antonio to visit my son we HAVE to go to Whiskey Cake. So I have been there at least twice per year and I have never ever had a bad meal! Keep up the great job!

Whiskey Cake

By Kleinski1602 |

Visited this week for a birthday lunch with another couple. We all agreed the food was fresh and tasty. It’s unfortunate the service was not to the same level. Server was friendly when she came by but intervals were spotty. We enjoyed our meals and the visit but 1-1/2 hours for lunch says much about the service we received.

Fabulous and delicious food!

By Jane Cheng T |

Convenient location at La Cantera Shopping Mall. Interesting interior and terrific service. Plenty of free parking. the food and drinks are exceptional. Do not miss the fabulous whiskey cake for dessert. I do not miss the chance to eat here if i am in the San Antonio area. Surely a destination spot for me. Can get very crowded and noisy on busy nights with large tables. Eat at the bar on those nights you cannot go wrong here!

Whiskey Cake Is One of Our Favorites

By beenthereboerne |

We have dined at Whiskey Cake on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The food is wonderful and the service is excellent. We always order their deviled eggs and they are always changing. Their Salmon with Lemon Sauce is also amazing.

Must try the whiskey cake!

By Gigi Reyes |

Menu options are good, nothing to rave about really, nothing amazing but good. My mom had chicken and waffles for dinner with eggs, I think it was pretty cool to be able to get that for dinner if you ever wanted it. I ordered the pork ramen which was okay, the pork was really tender but the flavor was okay over all. The price was pretty comparable to other restaurants at la cantera. Now what you really need to order and you can't miss it is the whiskey cake, it was really good! We paired it with vanilla bean ice cream, OMG. I would go back again for the cake, don't really care much about anything else!

Farm to Fork Freshness

By John E |

My wife and I dined here on a Monday for lunch. The layout of the restaurant is open, inviting with lots of environmental lighting. We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes. They were great. My wife had the Chickenbirdger and I had the OG OMG Burger. Both were cooked to perfection and outstanding. The manager treated us to a piece of their signature Whiskey Cake since we were first time diners. No words to describe this incredible sensation. Our server, Brianna, was punctual, polite and well-informed. We’ll definitely dine here again!

Date Night

By Amyandshaun |

Several people recommended we try this restaurant. Very glad we decided to take their advice! Everything I tried was amazing! We waited around 55 min on a Saturday got a table and I didn’t think that was bad. They sat us at a small table for two in the back of the restaurant. I really enjoyed the view out of the window and the nice atmosphere. The fried green tomatoes were some of the best I’ve ever had! My sandwich was so big that I saved half for lunch the next day. Even though we were stuffed we HAD to try the Whiskey cake and it was AMAZING. I would go back just for the cake.

It’s a very nice restaurant.

By Sal R |

It’s a very nice restaurant. Burger was very tasty and fries were very nice. Great staff who wants to get you what you want right away. The place looks more like a bar but it’s also a sit down restaurant. I wanted to give these amazing people 5 stars, but I wish the menu had more choices. Other than that, it felt homey and comfortable.

Great Quarantine Kits

By Genna R |

Had some issues finding some staples at our "well prepared" grocery chain. Thankfully I saw Whiskey Cake's posts and was able to get all the staples I needed, and more. Their Easter Brunch and Pulled Pork kits were delicious, beverage options to suit most tastes. Big thanks for making a difficult time a lot more bearable.

Adults and kids loved it!

By KauaiNatureGirl |

The adults enjoyed creative cocktails and a whiskey flight. All of us shared appetizers of roasted veggies and deviled eggs. Delish! Everyone loved their main course, including delicious roasted chicken, rib eye steak, entree salads, and chicken tenders. The youngest said the tenders had just the right amount of salt and were crispy. The side of Brussels sprouts were amazingly flavorful. Our server, Alison, was friendly, attentive, and efficient. The only thing I would change is to lower the volume of the music. (No one else even noticed it!)The only thing our 13 year old would change would be to have more light on her food. (The rest of us liked the dim lighting). Great job! We will be back.

Cold Biscuits

By StardustTraveler |

We had reservations for a Sunday lunch. When the waiter finally made it to our table, he explained the ingredients are farm fresh. The service was so slow, they must have been bringing it from the farm. The food tasted good, though my bacon was not crispy as I like it. But, I didn't care. Took forever to get it. We ordered the jalapeño biscuits to munch on. When they finally arrived...cold, and so was the otherwise tasty gravy. Then we were served our meals soon after. Mine breakfast item came with two more even colder biscuits. We had to beg for mimosas...a couple of times. We asked for salt and pepper, then a waiter came later and asked if we were finished with it so another table could have it. The service was so slow and people were waiting for tables. We ordered the whiskey cake was thankfully arrived at the right temperature with a big bowl of fresh whip cream served with it. The cake was wonderful!!

Wonderful

By cindyfisher61@yahoo.com |

First time there are it won't be the last. We met another couple for a meeting and then ate. The food is to die for.... I had the duck and it was great very tender my husband had the pork brisket steak and he said it was something he would have again. Our friends had the red fish and sirloin. The both said it was great, We went early and it was not busy but by the time we left all the tables were full. GREAT FOOD!

Fabulous

By maria ibarra |

Hands down this is a must visit in San Antonio. It’s situated well, the atmosphere is great, and the service as well! The food and drinks are absolutely fabulous in every way: portion sizes, quality, presentation, and above all flavor. The concept of this restaurant is really cool as all their products are locally sourced and natural. We loved this place! Please visit them and make a reservation as it does get busy.

Delicious and reasonably priced farm to table

By toya h |

The food is delicious and the portion sizes are fairly large. The whiskey cake is just sweet enough, moist and tender and the pecans and caramel send it over the top. While we were eating lunch we were already planning when we could come back and what we would order.

Underwhelming...this time

By DD Jackson |

We celebrated Mother’s Day a little late this evening with my husband and boys, and it didn’t live up to my expectations from previous visits. My boys seemed to be please with their kid’s meals, but my short ribs and spaghetti squash lacked flavor. My husband’s grilled reddish and orzo “risotto” also lacked seasoning as was rather bland. The best part of my meal was the “Abstract” red blend wine (after a failed mango habanero margarita cocktail) and the whiskey cake. I was disappointed because my husband rarely likes to try new places and this was a stretch and for $150 for a family of five, I’m sure he’s not feeling it was worth it. He won’t say anything because it was all about celebrating me, but I felt the same way...this time.

Great farm-to-table restaurant something for everyone!

By SuzS |

If you're looking for a great restaurant with wonderful farm-to-table ingredients, exotic menu items with a Southern Flair you need to try Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar. The food was amazing the service was incredible! Whether you're a local looking for a new place or someone visiting from another country they have something for everyone even gluten-free items. I have to shout out to our wonderful server Emma the bartender Adrian who came to our table was gracious explaining the drinks Marco the chef and be manager Jacob!

Great Drinking and Dining Experience

By Ray C |

Incredible whiskey selection, although wine list is very limited. Several choices were out of stock, but staff made it right. Food was perfectly prepared and delicious. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Last get together

By Hoagies |

The food is from farm to table. I highly recommend the Thai duck wings which are slightly hot but flavorful. The stew is also tasty. Please try the signature whiskey cake, it is surprisingly balanced, not too heavy. Our waitress, Melissa, was awesome. She answered any questions.

Disappointed

By f02301 |

Disappointed this trip. After 3, 5 star previous visits, this one let us down. Our waitress, Taylor , only had 3 tables and spent 95% of her time one table, including our first 15 minutes waiting just to be acknowledged. Another 10 minutes to receive coffee and yet another 5 to receive a mimosa, all of which were ordered with our food on first contact with Taylor. When we finally received our food one was slightly warm, the other, slightly cool. Who knows how long it set there as Taylor was still chatting up her “Main” table.

Love locally sourced

By georgia7691 |

Dinner with 10 business associates from throughout the country. Me being the token local. Personally I had the pork brisket over cheddar grits awesome. My neighbors had the farm chicken, and was really good as well. Grilled veggies A really good appetizer. Service was good servers were knowledgeable and there’s something about sourcing locally that just appeals to me. A really good experience and one that I would recommend

Best part of our visit to SA

By Malcolm K |

Super cool atmosphere. Our server Darnell knew his stuff and was a delight. I had the sirloin and my date had the pork brisket. I'm not a fan of the sirloin cut, but it was delicious. Her pork brisket was amazing -- tender and full of flavor. Above all, at Whiskey Cake, you MUST have the decadent whiskey cake dessert.

Mother’s Day dinner a week late

By Baybug2 |

It was our first time! Service was great! Reservations wonderful. Whiskey cake freaking yummy and very filling! Chili was not hot thank goodness! Dad got chicken sandwich! They were not big fans of the fries. Son got hot hen wished it was hotter. Complimentary goat cheese spread—-pretty tasty!

surprisingly really good food, drinks and service here!

By Gokhan A |

Me and my nephew were around La Cantera area and casually chose here to have a talk over at a cosy place with a few drinks and snacks. We weren't specifically looking for a place to eat good food but we ended up appreciating the quality of the stuff we ordered! We didn't have any main course so I can't talk about that but ordered about 4 different snacks and drinks. All were very well!.. and especially our waitress was very kind and attentive (if I remember correctly, Alina?? I hope I did)... and for all the stuff we had we paid a very cool 30 bucks! (yes there was the happy hour factor too which we didn't know when we entered but there you go..) Recommended folks!

Great food, excellent cake

By lucsimsthomas |

A birthday celebration led to a great lunch at this restaurant. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was just wonderful. I had the three small pulled pork sandwiches, which came with a hilarious story. The birthday girls shared their whiskey cake dessert and after that one small bite, I ordered two of them to go. The whiskey cake is so delicious that I didn't want to share with my husband so I got him his own. The service also was very good.

Always good

By Gw75 |

Been here several times now and can’t find any fault. Service and food is always good and the alcohol selection is great. All the food is sourced as local as possible. The local board was amazing.

Food with a mission

By Marsha S |

Just experienced my first visit to Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar and found it to be relaxing & charming. Their approach to the whole foods idea is refreshing. Service was very attentive & the atmosphere appealing. Our food was more than plentiful & delicious. Their ingredients are purchased locally so the menu changes frequently according to the season. If you take the kids, be sure they aren't picky eaters! There's not a lot of choices for your typical children's menu. The chicken tenders are very good with the bacon waffle as are the burgers. The turkey burger is also outstanding! The salmon plate is also excellent. There is a good variety of cocktails & beer too. My favorite item was on their appetizer menu. Be sure to order the fried green tomatoes or deviled eggs. Both are well worth the calories! Enjoy!

Unique Farm to Table Cafe

By beenthereboerne |

Met some friends there for a Birthday luncheon and we were pleasantly surprised with the food and the service. They offer several unique cocktails, appetizers like deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes presented on wooden planks. The style is industrial and there are many plants displayed on the wall at the upstairs entrance. A glass wall overlooks stores and shops in La Cantera, a nice view for people watching.

You’re gonna love this!

By Sightseer498232 |

Excellent food and excellent service with incredible ambiance! I highly recommend. They are forcing me to use 100 words - not sure what else I could say!

Best Cake!

By newyork20162016 |

We sat at the bar and ordered the Whiskey Cake which was unbelievable! This rich dense chocolate cake is served warm with fresh whip cream and is garnished with caramel and sweet pecans. We paired it with our favorite Whiskey, Heaven Hill and four roses small batch. Their coffee is really good too with this cake. They do have 2 happy hours on bar food and drinks only during the week.

Really Good

By 1WingNow |

Had a late lunch here last week on a business trip. Waiter suggested the turkey burger which was fantastic. Loved the unique table setting. The whiskey cake was outstanding… A delicious treat. I ordered a bloody Mary and it was watery and not very tasty so suggest staying away from that at the bar.

Great Atmosphere and Food!!

By MichelleGrenier |

I went to Whiskey Cake for a holiday luncheon and was delightfully surprised at the terrific atmosphere and delicious food! I ordered the goat cheese fondue as an appetizer and the bacon and egg salad. My colleagues ordered burgers which looked appetizing. We finished off with an order of whiskey cake, of course, and it did not disappoint! All of the food is fresh farm to table. They have no freezers or microwaves in their kitchen. I’d highly recommend it!

Awesome supper

By Lamar B |

We ate here supper on a Sunday afternoon. It is a farm to table restaurant. So everything was fresh and made to order. The Whiskey Cake is one of the best desserts we have had in a long time. Service was great as well. Would definitely recommend.

Delicious Food

By Lamont F |

My wife and I stopped by Whiskey Cake for lunch. All of their ingredients are sourced locally and you can really taste it in their food! We started our lunch with the homemade kettle chips and dip. The chips were sprinkled with a seasoning that gave the chips extra flavor. For my entree, I had the Bacon and Egg salad which was delicious. My favorite part of the dish had to be the egg. I was dipped in batter and fried to a crisp. As you cut into the egg it was still soft enough to crumble over the rest of the salad. Overall, the dish was very tasty and filling. At this point, I was stuffed and could not eat another bite. So I ordered the Whiskey Cake to go. Later that evening I tried it out. The chocolate, caramel, and nuts all work well together. The slice is a large enough portion that two people can share. The dessert, as well as the restaurant, lives up to the hype I've heard around town so I definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the area.

Whiskey Cake was my choice

By Pitzapie |

Whiskey Cake was my choice for my birthday meal and I was pleased. My meal was great, drinks excellent and the cake was delicious! I had a local flight of beers, a pastrami sandwich and a gimlet, all delicious!

Great Food and Service

By Ethan J |

I just recently visited Whiskey Cake, Kitchen & Bar, La Cantera, San Antoine, Texas and the food and service was exceptional. The fried green tomatoes are to die for. The turkey burger was moist and flavored with avocado and sweet cranberry. I was definitely impressed with the staff and the management, Fiona, the manager was courtesy, friendly and made sure everyone felt like if they where eating at home…outstanding! EJ

Get extra Bacon!

By Beth R |

Went for Brunch on a Sunday morning and the food was delicious! If I knew that bacon was going to be so good, I would have ordered extra. The atmosphere is nice and the decor is cute. A little loud though. Typically, I like to sit at the bar, I feel I tend to get better service..I was a little disappointed in the service of my bartender. Took him forever to take my order. After I got my food and he never asked how it was. I waited forever to get my ticket and eventually another bartender asked if I was doing fine and then I got my bill. Definitely go for the food, might be hit or miss on the service.

Great food and service!

By Melissa T |

Awesome! The food was phenomenal as always! We shared the whiskey cake for dessert, and it never disappoints us…fabulous!!!!! Our service was great. Only downfall …I made reservations and when we got there, we still had to wait 15-18 minutes. We’ve dined before without a reservation, and we had to wait the same amount of time. So, do reservations really matter!? Good is on point, everytime!

Excellent food and Staff!

By BluePlate-Now |

First time here for brunch and it was outstanding! The Farmers Benedict with the duroc ham and perfectly cooked poached eggs hit the spot for brunch. We also had the B.E.LT. their take on a BLT with fried green tomatoes and a perfect soft egg was also a hit. Bloody Mary's were good an the staff was pleasant and attentive. Give this place a try!

Such a fabulous place!

By colesmom1 |

I wish I lived in SA because I would eat here nightly. We ordered almost everything being a party of 10. My favorites were the squash hummus with woodfired bread and fresh veggies, chicken and waffles, a chicken avocado sandwich and the whiskey cake. My sister said the Old fashioned was awesome and everyone else concurred their drinks were great. The waffle was so good, it didn't need syrup. I make homemade waffles so I have high standards. The whiskey cake lived up to the hype and then some. Oh and the atmosphere is gorgeous, wait staff exceptional and did I mention the food!?

Whiskey-Freakin-Cake! The primary reason to go here.

By psudino |

At a conference some of our colleagues came here the previous night and they could not stop talking about the whiskey cake dessert. They didn't even mention the rest of their dinner, just the dessert. After our Rudy's dinner my dining companions and I made our way here just for the dessert. The seating in the back is casual with couches and comfy chairs. The waitstaff is super friendly. The ambiance is nice too. But the cake. I am thinking about other cakes I've had I'm struggling to think of one that tasted as delectable has this one! It was rich, creamy, sweet without being too sweet, flavorful and just all around wonderful. We dug in so fast I didn't even have time to take a picture before it was demolished. A superb dessert! Highly recommend!

Lunch experience

By Eloy C |

It was a good place. Limited menu but excellent service. Waitress was so nice and good. I would like to have seen a bigger menu.

Topping-off Adoption Day!

By David W |

We are on a regular trip from Maryland to visit our 2 daughters, one married and one single, in San Antonio, only there is nothing regular about it! This trip we came to witness the addition of 5 grandchildren to our family! After that big event at the Bexar County Courthouse and a couple of follow-up visits to stores the kids had picked out, our son-in-law chose Whiskey Cake for the evening dinner celebration at his treat. They had been there previously once before as a couple for brunch. His parents, our single daughter, the 5 kids, my wife and I were all newbies. We arrived at the front end of the dinner hours. The staff quickly set up for our group of 12 in a less-noisy area away from the bar, matching the family atmosphere appropriate to us. Our waiter, Adrian, quickly delivered menus and sought our drink orders. Our daughter asked about chocolate milk for our hours-old (actually ranging from 4 to 11 years-old, 4 girls and their younger brother) grandkids. Adrian had to check to see, but they didn't have any in on the day of our visit. So they got lemonade and the rest of us had water, lemonade or sweet tea, quickly delivered and frequently re-filled. Adrian emphasized Whiskey Cake's fresh ingredients and their farm-to-table reputation. Our son-in-law and his dad ordered chicken and waffles. His mom ordered Texas redfish. Our new-mom daughter ordered salmon. My wife ordered Thai duck wings from the appetizer menu and I ordered the short rib. Our other daughter ordered some variety of burger and the kids all got grilled cheese or sliders. Though the crowd hadn't yet built for the evening, we were still concerned for the kids' sakes with how quickly our selections might be delivered. Adrian totally filled in! He had inquired early on if we were celebrating any thing special and was appropriately enthused about our story. He engaged with the kids in particular and they could have cared less about when their food was coming. He started asking them their names, most of which had just changed. One of the girls replied that her new name was Watermelon. That's when show-time cranked up. Adrian countered when asked his name with a tale that his Clark-Kent glasses really did make him Clark Kent and that whenever any trouble happened out in the mall he turned into Superman and flew out the window to the rescue, etc. On a subsequent visit to the tables, he returned with the chef's apron turned to the back as a cape. The kids knew better, but they were still star-struck. What really flew was the time it took for our orders to be delivered. Adrian had more than earned whatever tip (I'm sure it was generous) my son-in-law applied to the check. Everyone enjoyed their selections. The portions were ample. My short rib was fork-separated tender and nicely pink. The accompanying rutabaga/carrot mash was a unique and scrumptious side. My wife really enjoyed her duck wings and let me nibble one. Tangy and yummy! The food itself was definitely worthy of our rating, but Adrian's service was the thing that secured that I'd take the time to compose this review!

Fantastic food, atmosphere, and service!

By CMG74 |

Ate here on the weekend and the meal was spectacular. Everything our party of 5 ordered was top notch. Awesome service too! Highly recommend.

Delicious

By Unicornfluff |

Pricey, but delicious food. The mixed drinks were good, but small. The atmosphere was dark, loud and crowded, but they somehow pulled off a cozy feel despite this. Will go again! Once my wallet recovers.

One of our favorites in San Antonio

By Sal R |

Menu is simple but great food. Very attentive staff. Great atmosphere. Great location. Highly recommend this place.

Great for Brunch!

By Q prescott |

Loved this place from the moment we walked in. Started our brunch with a flight of mimosas, decided we liked the grapefruit the best. Ordered the Local Board and the Farmer's Breakfast and split them. It was a great decision, especially since there was so much food. The food was awesome! Our server was attentive without being overbearing. Definitely recommend this place for brunch!

To never return.

By Billy D |

This was a poor excuse for a restaurant. Atmosphere was blah and the food was worse than blah. It’s a gimmicky millennial joint. STF away.

One to remember

By Mason K |

Whiskey cake is a great and new place witch has an amazing modern /rustic atmosphere. Personally their food is amazingly fresh and is often accompanied by unorthodox but delicious foods. I went for a birthday and the free desert was the “whisky cake” this is a sweet almost spice cake with a caramel drizzle sounding simple but this was honestly one of the best desserts I’ve had in awhile

Excelent option in SA

By Alfonso R |

Excelent drinks, food and atmosphere. We enjoyed the dinner very much! The goat cheese fondue and the main courses were spectacular

Excellent stop for something just outside of the ordinary

By Loni J |

Fabulous food that is just a touch outside of the normal. Locally sourced, creative cuisine, and still picky eater kid friendly. And when you visit "Whiskey Cake," you can't leave without trying the whiskey cake!

Outstanding Service plus Great Food

By Laura B |

Whisky Cake is a great place to go for a lunch with friends. I had the Lemongrass Shrimp and Noodles that was excellent....great flavor and very light and refreshing. The whiskey cake is outstanding. The best thing about our meal was our personable server, Kayla, who helped make the experience so enjoyable. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and did a great job expaining the whiskey flights.

Great friendly service and amazing food!

By Lolli G |

Great service! Excellent food. We had the bacon, fried green tomatoes, Macaroni and cheese and the porkchops. All of these were excelkent!

Spectacular food

By Klara |

Very impressed with every aspect of our meal: ambience was awesome, service was incredible, and all our food was super tasty.

went twice

By Cole |

I went once for dinner date and once for a business meeting and both times the food and service were great.

Great evening out with family

By Cara L |

I’ve been twice and both time I got the local board. A perfect variety of meats, spreads, cheese and bread. So delicious. I think I got the campfire whiskey drink - interesting and delicious- sort of like smoked apple cider. Lol. We had our kids w us and they loved it too. Great atmosphere to relax

Whiskey Cake - Delicious!

By Dennis10_51 |

Great place for a casual lunch while taking a break from your shopping. Food is for the most part farm to table and they take pride in buying local. Now to the Whiskey Cake. No lunch or dinner is complete without Whiskey Cake for desert. Great taste. Simply delicious.

Hair in cake.

By Ramon F |

Bought a whole whiskey cake for my mom's birthday and surprise a big nasty hair inside. I spoke to the manager and best they could do is refund half on a $65 dollar cake. What a waste and disgrace for this place. I understand these things happen but take full responsibility. I'm disappointed in how they dont have honor in what they serve and dont feel they care.

New fav!

By Kasey |

This is an amazing restaurant! As first timers, we had no idea what we were walking in to. But we 100% do not regret going! The food was AMAZING! Our waitress, Allison, was beyond phenomenal! She was amazingly attentive, knew everything about the menu, and was spot on with her recommendations! I didn’t catch his name, but a waiter came by and gave us a few laughs as well! Great atmosphere and all around perfect place! We will definitely be back!

Absolutely delicious!

By hospitableme |

The quality of the food here was absolutely fabulous! Greens are fresh. Atmosphere is great, even with social distancing in place. Did a weekend brunch. Food portions are perfect and filling. Great juice offerings. Can't complain.

Wow! Need I say more?

By Steven K |

New to us and very glad we made the trip to try it out. Great ambiance, very interesting bar theme, and the food was fantastic. Great beer, whiskey, wine, and drink selection. I hardly doubt they wouldn't "have it" if you asked for it. Very busy, may want to plan ahead and make reservations if you are large than a group of 4. Can't wait to try again...that's how good it was.

Great ambiance

Went on a double date and loved the restaurant feel and the food was amazing. They use locally sourced food.

San Antonio Vacation

By April Wright |

Whiskey Cake is very delightful and pleasant restaurant. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, the food was superb and the customer service was excellent and the food was reasonably priced. You get the full experience! Our waitress was so friendly and the manager was ver impressive by making a personal appearance to ensure our food and service was what we expected. It was beyond our expectations! I can’t wait to come back to San Antonio to eat here again!

Slow and Loud - but good food

By Cindy C |

Admittedly it was a busy Sunday afternoon, but our waitress apparently forgot we were there. She had time to chitchat with the two tables next to us, but took 20 minutes to come back with a water refill. The trendy music was so loud that we could not hear each other across the table. On the up side, my husband enjoyed his ale and the guys that the burger and chicken melt were good. My roasted beet and goat cheese salad was very tasty.

Memorable in Every Way

By FeedBob |

Went with 4 friends after a recommendation and it was even better than described! Though busy and energy-filled, they not only met our needs, they blew us away with attention and service. Great drinks list, great crafted foods, and the desert? The signature Whiskey Cake might be the best dessert I’ve ever tasted in a restaurant. Save room! This is a must-do experience. Suggest Candied Bacon app, any sandwich, a whiskey drink and the cake. Gracious. Way good!

Whiskey cake is delish!!!

By Marilynn B |

With coupons from Elan hotel, went twice. Delicious and spicy turkey chili, adult Mac and cheese w bacon and whiskey cake. All food is farm to table.

Enjoyed having dinner here

By whatsontheagenda |

Enjoyed having dinner here on our last day of vacation. Ashley was our server . She was awesome ! Food was delicious! My husband and I enjoyed the shrimp and grits, while our friends had steak sandwiches. We had to finish our meal with a piece of cake and wow it lived up to the hype! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will eat there again if I’m ever back in town!!

Wow! Just wow! Don’t forget the sticky toffee pudding!

By mail4cindyr |

From the wagyu corn dogs to the ribeye, this restaurant goes the extra mile! The whiskey cake rivals all of the most famous ones! Appetizers were perfectly beautiful in presentation and flavor. The Valentines ribeye special was tender and juicy. The service was superb!

Casual atmosphere, good food

By Leslie J |

Food was yummy with generous portions. Drinks were excellent. We had a burger and a chicken sandwich. The chicken and waffles were the highlight of our meals. Tried and really enjoyed their handout fries. Glad we left room for the whiskey cake dessert. It was phenomenal. Get one to go if you don't have time to eat it there.

Lunch

Great Food and service. It’s a little hard to find but worth it. Great choice of whiskey and many other cocktails.

Birthday Lunch with family

By Dana C |

Today is my husband’s birthday and he chose Whiskey Cake to celebrate! The chicken and waffles are fabulous and he and our son cleaned their plates! Wide variety of dishes and signature drink menu to chose from! Great atmosphere and the service was Johnny on the spot! Go hungry! You won’t be disappointed!

Excellent farm to table restaurant outside of downtown San Antonio

By Chinapjs |

Best restaurant on this four day visit. Everything our group of six had was delicious. Service was excellent, friendly and helpful. AND, the signature Whiskey Cake for dessert was wonderful. Extremely rich and topped with a fantastic sauce. The pulled pork sliders were perfect, the chicken waffle authentic and one of the best my son has ever had. Salads and vegetarian dishes excellent. Beer flights nteresting. Good wine list too. We'll be back for sure

Good food, great cake

By Kathy G |

Went on a week night as a family of 7. Restaurant wasn’t crowded and we were seated away from others as there were 3 kids in the group. The food and drinks were good. My husband had chicken and waffles which he enjoyed. I had the short rib (only got 1) which was tender and delicious. I just wish there had been more of it. The adults had the whiskey cake for dessert with vanilla ice cream on the side. It tasted great and was very moist. Since I’ve been back home I’ve been inspired to make my own whiskey cake. Not sure if it’s as good as theirs or not.

Really good food, ambiance and service

By Teresa M |

The food was wonderful! I had the Whisky Braised Short Rib, spaghetti squash, heirloom carrots and kale, with appetizers of fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs. Everything is fresh every day. They do not have freezers or microwaves. Unfortunately, I was too full to try the Whisky Cake so that will have to wait. I will definitely go back the next time I am in town.

Nice Mall Restaurant

By MA92756 |

Good food, nice atmosphere but in the end this is a nice mall restaurant. Nothing special but it it wont disappoint you for a casual meal if you are in or near the mall. Not a place I would otherwise go to.

Surprisingly an amazing lunch at Whiskey Cake!

By Ileana Munoz |

Every time we visit La Cantera, we usually park in the back by Perry’s and Whiskey Cake is right next to it. We never went in thinking it was just a bar. My husband suggested today we try it today for lunch. It was a great idea! Ale, our server, was fantastic. A huge part, around 13 people, arrived and sat across from us and it was Ale's table. However, the teamwork exhibited by the other servers and supervisor was so refreshing to experience. This teamwork worked so that everyone would be treated well and no one lacked any personal attention. Usually when there are only 2 people in a table and the waitress is assigned a huge table, service falls through the cracks. Here, none of that happened. We were provided refills without waiting and lunch was great. Our food arrived hot and timely. The food was just as good as the service. My husband had a Reuben sandwich and I had a melted burger. Ale asked if I wanted to add avocado inside the burger, which was a great idea. It was AMAZING! We both brought 1/2 our lunch home and we can't wait to return. Next time, we already know that anything we order, will be good tasting and the quality of the food and service will not disappoint!

Poor service

By SAB B |

Worst service ever! A group of us came here for dinner. We ordered apps and entrees. It took 2 hours to get our food and then it all came out at once. The GM was apologetic and discounted our bill which was nice. Very poor service and kitchen timing!

OMG , loved it! Great bourbon selection and farm to table too

By ldanna2015 |

I hear they are coming to Tampa but sure hope the open in Orlando too! What an extensive bourbon/ whiskey selection and a staff who knows it’s liquor! The food was just as amazing, fresh farm to table deliciousness! I had the turkey burger and added roasted Brussel sprouts... YUM

Great drink

By Kathi W |

We stopped in for a drink while walking the riverwalk. It was excellent. This is one of the places I really wanted to try while we were in town. It didn't disappoint.

Excellent Food and Service!

By Frank W |

The food and service here are very amazing! Well worth the visit. If you go once, you'll go again. The servers are very helpful and courteous.

a must try!

By Rebekah1994 |

I am so glad I followed my friends recommendation! We were not disappointed! Upon arrival we were ushered to our reserved table - shortly there after Colin our waiter arrived with water and outstanding knowledge about the menu and offerings! He wasn't pushy and kindly answered our questions about different dishes and drinks. Our choices didn't disappoint: between cocktails, the local board as starter and flavor packed entrees we were fully satisfied! And you mustn't forget the whiskey cake for dessert....warm, lush and delicious, its a must try, very morish!

Birthday Dinner

By BelleRod29 |

I came in with a group of 4 women. We were sat down without our party being complete. That was nice and accommodating. Our waiter came right away and took our drink order. Our drinks came out immediately. We then ordered appetizers then our meal once our party was complete. Everything was very delicious. The only thing that made me queasy was the Irish stew. As soon as I smelled the stew, it just not sit well with me. I did not even attempt to taste it. I asked the waiter If he could please remove the bowl from my area. He did so immediately. Then he came back to question if I would like anything else off of the menu. I state that I was nauseated, so I declined. The manager then came to the table and asked if there was anything he could do for me. I stated that it was not the their fault just that the smell of it upset my stomach. After dinner and drinks come up the waiter then brought a very delicious slice of cake. With a candle on it. All in all it was a great evening. Thank you whiskey cakes!!!

Cool atmosphere

The atmosphere is really kind of cool. Good was good. The whiskey cake was AMAZING...like to die for amazing.

Quality ingredients you can taste

By luv2trvl1426 |

I wish we had come here sooner. We have definitely been missing out. The service was great, the atmosphere is relaxing and feels like home. Our food was excellent, complete with French press coffee which was a special treat.

Decor is better than the food

By TravelinWIGal |

Had lunch here with colleague. We loved the decor and the hanging chairs in front of the real fireplace. I had a salad which was fine but not particularly memorable, my colleague had the sandwich special, she felt that 'pimento cheese' part of the special was over sold, and was hoping for more pimento cheese instead of just the light spread of pimento cheese. Our service was really bad, waited 10 minutes to be greeted and when my colleague at less than half of her sandwich nothing was mentioned. My iced tea glass was empty. Honestly, I think it was just an off day, I would try it again and maybe go with their specialties. The dessert at the next table looked amazing.

Best Service and Food

By thepapatee |

This was one of the best experiences we have had as a tribe of family. Our waiter Joshua was one of the best servers I’ve had the pleasure of being assisted by. His drink suggestions were spot on. He was friendly and answered questions about the menu providing suggestions that were excellent. He made this experience outstanding. The food was superb.

A day to remember

By carlos g |

The servers there know their stuff with their help I was able to have a great day food here is well worth

Nice fresh meal

By steno225 |

I had the OMG burger at suggestion of server. It was huge and tasty. Husband and the 3 pulled pork sliders. The chips were fresh, crispy and just the right amount of seasoning. The water was fresh and cold. The servers did a great job of keeping our water pitcher full and our glasses topped off. Would come here again and perhaps try the appetizer and desserts.

Whiskey, Rye, with Wife... Oh my!!

By FamigliaPena |

What a romantic, charming late night escape my wife and I had to Whiskey Cake! The ambience, food, drinks, and service coalesced into an exhilarating experience that left my wife and I thirsting for more. We will undoubtedly return in the near future. Like 12:34

Sooooo cool!!!!!

By Alana G |

We're not whiskey or beer drinkers but the food was awesome! The atmosphere was very cool and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The presentation of the food, every sandwiches, is great!

Good food

By bears60 |

The food was good. The 3 little pig sliders were plenty for a meal. My wifes salad was plentiful. The tea tasted very good. Service was very good also. The restaurant is very clean and so are the restrooms. The Whiskey cake dessert is a must....

Save room for cake

By DawgExplorer |

This is such a unique place and does not feel like a chain at all. The atmosphere was a bit funky but very nice at the same time. The service was fantastic while the food was as well. I had the short rib which was tender and tasty while my buddy had the burger which was also delicious. The restaurants namesake was incredible. The cake was moist and the sauce was perfect while the ice cream helped balance it all out. I am ready for more.

Everything was top notch

By SpongeKA |

We had a pretty big group of about 20 coworkers her for Easter dinner, and they were very easily able to accommodate us. They brought out a variety of apps and deserts to share for the table, and everything i put in my mouth was amazing.

Make Sure You Leave Room for Cake

By Michael M |

Good vibe, extensive drink and food menu, good service. Great place to meet up with friends and coworkers too. Be sure you have the named dessert, you won’t be disappointed.

Great Brunch and dinner

By Ylrac Z |

Brunch was so good with its bloody mary bar. Recently went with coworkers for dinner and it was fantastic. Even though it was ladies night with half off wine I was intrigued by their whiskey. I got one of the whiskey cocktails. So glad I did. What an experience! I'm not one that will usually have a drink with dinner, normally I just have water, because of wanting to focus on flavor of food, but I'm glad I went out of the norm. I also got the lamb stew, which I wouldn't normally get because I either really like lamb or don't, but with the drink being so good and was feeling real adventurous. Again... totally loved it. The ambiance @ night was incredible and highly recommend for a date night, a night with friends and or coworkers.

Horrible and Racist

By Tandria J |

This was the first time my friend and I visited this establishment and it will definitely be the last. When we entered into the restaurant, the Asian host barely greeted us and didn't bother to seat us. Her colleague, Hispanic guy, was gracious enough to find us a seat. But when a Caucasian family came in behind us, the host was all smiles and not only gave them a proper greeting she also took them to their seat. Upon being seated, my friend and I wasn't even asked if this was our first time there, none of the other waiters bothered to come wait on us. So we proceeded to leave as we knew then that this establishment was not for Black people. It wasn't even that many people in the establishment which made it even more obvious that they don't like black people. As we proceeded to leave, one of the wait staff asked if we were leaving because we were not being waited on, I said yes, and he proceeded to say I will wait on you let me fix it. I said you shouldn't have to fix it! And we proceeded to leave. I know racism is still alive and everyone is not going to like everybody.. but I thought San Antonio was a very nice place to live for all races, but an establishment like this makes you have second thoughts. If you are BLACK, STAY AWAY!!! They don't want us in their restaurant!

2nd visit and it is good

By Baybug2 |

We love they take reservations and they were prompt when seating us timely! Food is not too crazy expensive-mom got chili bowl should have done a cup—-to much! Dad got tri tri with fries and he did like fries! Friends tried whiskey cake——yummy!

Delicious food, AMAZING cake!

By Shmiggy |

I had the fish and ate every bite, but my salad (all 4 of our salads) was just too sandy and gritty to eat. The cake was absolutely to die for! I'll definitely be back, but won't order a salad again.

Cool restaurant atmosphere, mediocre food

By gustav2011 |

Met friends and had an enjoyable time. Food was so-so. We expected a lot better. Everything is allegedly farm fresh and they have vegetables etc growing in front. Cardboard straws broke and were subpar. They don’t have salt on the table. Not a fan of the chips that came with the burger. Interesting place, too bad the food wasn’t the greatest.

Fantastic food and delicious dessert

By tanyab935 |

I had the chicken and waffles with a chocolate stout beer. I can't tell you how great everything was! I could eat this for days in a row and not get tired of the spicy gravy or the fresh waffle with bacon IN it or the chicken cooked to perfection and moist. Spouse got short ribs and the portion size was very disappointing but still tasted good. Not something he'll order again though. Burgers look good sized. Mom had tomato soup, also flavorful. Of course, whiskey cake for dessert. No words!

Excellent use of natural juices and food

By SuzqzTravels |

We had the BBQ sliders and cocktails. All the juices for the drinks are freshly squeezed. Try the habanero cocktail. A little kick with a lot of sweet. Very tasty. The service could have been a little quicker.

Great Experience

By Kjsmith7 |

The experience along was awesome. I was not too familiar with the appetite but always open for trying something new. I had a Steak and it was excellent. The treat of the evening was the Whiskey Cake Desert (to die for; excellent). I would actually just go in for coffee and/or cocktail and the Whiskey Cake desert. Again Excellent Experience!!!

The name says it all, don’t miss it

By dihoagie |

I don’t know what they put in that cake. Not sure I want to know. It can’t possibly be healthy and it may be illegal to taste that good. This stuff is crazy good. I had to eat it in 2 sessions because it was so rich. Do not miss the cake. As for the actual good, I was a bit disappointed with my sandwich because the bread was toasted so much that it scraped up the roof of my mouth. Should have had 2 pieces of cake instead. The kettle chips were great.

This place never disappoints me

By Steve D |

Had another large group. The service was good and there were no complaints about the appetizers or the food. We had about 15 people there. All were happy. You need to try the whiskey cake. It's great. This place will be packed no matter when you go. Make a reservation if possible.

A Surprising Find, save room for the Cake.

By ADCollier |

We received a coupon from the resort, so we decided to give it a try. We were surprised how much we enjoyed it. My wife and I both ordered the Chicken and Waffle. The chicken tenders were crisp and flavorful, with a light gravy covering. There was a sunny-side up egg on the waffle and pieces of bacon incorporated into the waffle. The waffle was perfectly done, crisp and not doughy. The coupon was for their signature Whiskey Cake. We were too full to eat it there, so we had it packaged to-go and ate it later that night. It was one of the most, if not the most, delicious cakes I've had from a restaurant. Our server, Hamilton, was friendly, efficient, and attentive. I intend to recommend this restaurant to my boss, who will be visiting this area soon.

First visit

By 10ringtraveler |

My Niece said she has been wanting to eat here for quite a while so we decided to give it a shot. The first thing I noticed on entering is the bar and the display behind it. The decor at the bar, and the entire dining area is very impressive. The restaurant is in a very nice mall with plenty of parking make access very easy. The dining area is very clean, the staff were all polite and professional. They were very helpful with menu items. I thought the food to be very good. My wife said she wasn't impressed and my niece agreed with me saying her sandwich was very good....however the only problem I saw was the way our burgers were prepared. Both my wife and I asked for no mushrooms, both had mushrooms, I ordered a side of fries that never made it to our table. First world problems! I still liked the food and would go back!

Great place

By Molos |

What a surprise! Came for the name but once inside I was pleasantly pleased. My husband had a local IPA and I had a Guava Gimlet. Both did not disappoint. Then we went for the fried green and WOW! I grew up enjoying these bites of heaven but the Whiskey Cake breading and sauce had me craving more. Our server Collin was super helpful when I couldn't decide what to enjoy. I was torn between the Chicken melt and the OMG Burger. After my husband said chicken is my fav, Collin said it was a must and boy was he right!!! The chicken was moist and the avocado spread and bacon were delightful. My husband opted for the switch up. This is the chefs "sandwich of the month". Turns out it was a marbles sour dough bread with a grilled pastrami, homemade slaw with green chili's and a special sauce that had him and I wanting more. Oh wait I forgot to mention the kettle chips! I'm a sucker for potato chips and they were amazing. Even gave me some to go. Then for the finale...whiskey cake. This is why they named the place. English toffee cake with the most special glaze and toasted pecans. Collin did the best job taking care of us and suggesting food and filling our glasses. Too bad we are only in town for business. I'm looking to see if there is one in Phoenix!

Small eclectic menu in a cool, modern designed building

By Clarkston_Rambler |

Check the menu before you select this place as the offerings are slim but the food was excellent. The Pickled Rachel was fantastic. The chicken spinach salad got two thumbs up. Our waitress was terrible but the food and atmosphere almost made up for it.

Yummy good!

By Tracy T |

Ate brunch here on 03/14/21. It was very busy but staff was friendly and attentive. Restroom was very clean. The food was delicious and their signature whiskey cake is a must try. Convenient location in La Contera shopping center off I-10 near Six Flags, hotels, other shopping, restaurants and attractions. Don’t miss this place when visiting San Antonio!

Delicious

By Lisa |

We absolutely loved the atmosphere and food.Server was friendly and helpful.Gotta try the whiskey cake,so delicious🤤

Best restaurant we found near San Antonio

By Kevin P |

The best restaurant on our stay near San Antonio by far! Everything we had was spot on. OMG burger, ribeye, candied bacon, chicken and cheese melt and the whiskey cake was the best cake I’ve ever had!!!

Best Food In Town

By Paul |

Good strong drinks that are actually worth the money! The food was a very upscale and absolutely wonderful. Jamy was our server, and he knew the menu like the back of his hand! He was very attentive and had a very accurate answer for any questions that we had. Just don't go to Whiskey Cake and not have some whiskey cake! It was wonderful!

Yummy!

By Donna S |

Went here for dessert, had the whiskey cake. It was delicious! Chocolate cake topped with pecans served on caramel and crepe with a side of homemade whipped cream. Very good service and I liked the openness of the layout.

Good choice for a lunch outing, with very fresh, delicious food

By Cheryl D |

We chose this for lunch with a cousin, and I called ahead to inquire regarding their handling of COVID. This was our first indoor dining since 2019, but I was told all employees wear masks, and tables are 6 ft. apart, so I made a reservation. The restaurant is a bit challenging to find in the La Cantera shopping area-my GPS kept telling me it was further away, but we finally saw the sign. They have a nice, small garden growing just outside the restaurant door. I noted that they were offering free valet parking for Lexus owners, and one new Lexus model was parked adjacent to the front door. The premises are very nicely decorated, and we enjoyed the experience of being in the restaurant. Ceilings are very high, so there was no feeling of being closed in, even though we were dining indoors. From the hostess to our server, Francisco, they did a very good job of making us feel comfortable. We wore masks until we were seated. We asked for paper menus, and that was no problem. Water was served immediately after we were seated, and when I requested lime for the water, Francisco brought several slices of lime on a plate for us. The drink menu looked so tempting, two of us ordered Old fashions, and my husband ordered a beer. Our cocktails were quite good. After inquiring which dishes Francisco would recommend, he brought samples of each of the three soups so my husband could decide which to order. He ordered a bowl of the chili, and said it was very good. I ordered the turmeric hummus, with crudités. That was perfect for me, and the purple cauliflower, baby carrots, cucumbers, and radishes were all fresh and good for dipping in the hummus. The cousin ordered a half sandwich and a cup of the mushroom soup. She said both were delicious. I ordered a slice of the whiskey cake to take back to our timeshare, and we enjoyed that delicious, decadent dessert later. We were most impressed with our first visit to Whiskey Cake Kitchen and Bar.

Glad I got to visit again

By Beth K |

Haven’t had the opportunity to eat here in 5 years. Was not disappointed. The goat cheese appetizer was delicious. The salmon was good but tabbouleh herbs were not chopped fine enough and was not pleasant to eat. Wine pours were a little small.

THIS PLACE IS A MUST!!!!!!

By KeriR558 |

I know “farm -to-table” can be a few things , over used, exaggerated , intimidating, etc….. This place is GREAT! Service was top notch, food was spot on, and drinks were fantastic! Their happy hour menu for snacks and drinks is well worth it too!!! Ambiance is cool and relaxing also. They do have a rotating menu, depending what is available, but I would certainly never be discouraged by it after eating here!

Amazing

By fishnwmn |

This restaurant has great food, and great service. If you are in the San Antonio area I highly recommend it. They have food for every age. They specialize in Chicken and Waffles!

So much of the goodness

By Jojosgirl23 |

My team and I went to Whiskey Cake for dinner while in town from Phoenix. The restaurant has a farm to table concept and has a really cool vibe on the inside; mix of elements with wood, metal, rope and glass. They are friendly to all kinds of diets and allergies as well. The waiters were great and very attentive to our party. They made sure to spend a little extra time to explain the menu and specials to those who hadn’t been there and make some recommendations for food and drinks. Happy Hour had $5 old fashions and that made people in our group happy. I got the OMG burger and it was cooked to perfection; not just the burger but the battered onion ring on top of it. The kettle chips weren’t too hard or bland like some are and were coated with a sweet seasoning. Now to the whiskey cake itself for dessert. ALWAYS save room for it because it is beyond delicious! I wanted to eat just spoonfuls of the whipped topping it comes with. Will most definitely be returning next time we’re in SAT.

Wonderful Whiskey Cake!

By Napunani |

We opted for Saturday night dinner here when a nearby restaurant told us it would be a 3-hour wait, but we were seated here at WCK immediately. Grayson was our server. Started with Fried Green Tomatoes - very good and fresh! Hubby had Pork Brisket with grits and I had 3 pulled pork sliders with a side of fresh-cut chips! We were both very happy with our selection! Very good! Warm whiskey cake for dessert - yesssssssssss - so very good! Huge piece that we shared, but I could have eaten the whole thing myself! :)

Great Local San Antonio Restaurant that you don't want to leave town without trying

By Brenda C |

This is a VERY friendly, local establishment that is pleasing in atmosphere and quality of food. When visiting San Antonio for the first time it was out pleasure to find this gem of a Restaurant. They have fantastic service, high quality food that hits on a wide assortment of tastebuds and it will always be a place we will visit on each trip we take to Texas.

Refreshing change from the "norm"

By Ou8one2 |

The whole experience the three times I've been there has been great! I'm 'extremely" picky about the food I eat and have not been anything but pleased with the food. I appreciate the fact that they tend to not only care about the taste but also they way they make the food which is healthier for you. My last trip, I ordered the bean burger and was skeptical when the wait person said it tasted like beef........it really does and I was told there is no soy in it!

Just excellent

By Carron D |

We loved the special cocktails. Lunch was delicious and the atmosphere and service was wonderful..Even on Christmas Eve we were able to find parking.

Great Brunch

By f02301 |

We had an excellent Brunch here. Our first visit but certainly not our last! The pork brisket steak on the Pork, Egg and Grits was the best I’ve ever had. My wife had the Farmhouse Ham Benedict which was also great. Can’t wait to come back for happy hour during the week. Our server, Janice was excellent.

Whiskey Cake Pairing Dinner

By Janet S |

My 2 daughters and I went tonight and absolutely loved and were impressed. From the Mgr Casey booking our reservations, to the fantastic cocktails prepared by the Bar Mgr Fiona, to the outstanding menu prepared by Chef Marylou Davis...the entire evening from start to finish was exception. They were fantastic about coming out to explain everything that we were about to try. Megan Sparks with the William Grant & Sons was so friendly, informative and enthusiastic. Will be going again soon and highly recommend.

Come for dessert

By you-and-me-2015 |

In La Cantera Mall ... valet parking available. Need reservations or expect long wait time!! Everything was delicious ... menu is limited ... pretty pricey for the offerings ... pork sliders were fabulous, sirloin steak and chicken & waffles ... the best part was dessert — the whiskey cake is to die for, roll your eyes in the back of your head Heaven!!

Late night bite

By Juliene R |

Real relaxed place Rich the manager was nice Mary and Bella the bartenders were good even though it took a while for them to come and tend to us and dean the chef made the exception after closing the kitchen to make food as I didn’t really feel for the taste of the salmon dish however the duck wings are GOOD and the shots are good too. Great place for groups or a simple date nite

Mother’s Day Brunch

By genesejane |

Everything was wonderful. The service was super and there was a flight of mimosas for us to have at brunch. It was great to have my husband, three adult children, daughter-in-law, and grandson there together for brunch. Everyone loved the menu options.

Overrated, Overpriced

By Bennet |

With the exception of the hamburger (which was tasty and cooked well), the food and service are mediocre, not worth what you will pay (our bill was $112). We made a reservation for 12:30pm, arrived at 12:25pm. They seated us by 12:30pm, our waiter came right away, and we ordered 4 drinks, an appetizer, and 4 meals. From this point on, we saw our waiter very little. The drinks came at 12:45pm, the appetizer came at 12:55pm, and 3 of our 4 meals arrived at 1:08pm. The 4th meal, a kids meal, came at 1:20pm. Almost an hour for all of our meals to make it to the table! Our drinks would go unfilled for too long. The Whisky cake with ice cream was good. The restaurant itself is nice, has outdoor seating, nice views, and free, close parking. There are plenty other comparable places.........maybe try one of those other places instead. We won't go back.

Consistently great food and service!

By Patricia A |

I've been to Whiskey Cake three times in the last year--each time I've gone to San Antonio--and it has been consistently excellent. Make a reservation, because this place draws a crowd. The gluten-free options are all excellent--of the chicken (rotisserie farm bird), beef (braised short rib), and pork (pork brisket) choices, you can't go wrong, and the farm salad is an ample delight. Make sure to tell your server about any food allergies. For ladies, Wednesday night is half-off wine, and they have a very nice chardonnay by the glass. (Also, the women's bathroom stall door handles do not turn, and the bathroom stall doors go all the way to the floor, so just pull the door handle towards you to see if it's locked/occupied.) If your dining companion orders the whiskey cake for dessert, ask for the whipped cream to be served separately so you can enjoy it too (it's a _huge_ serving).

Thankful for wallet recovery.

By Emily G |

We had dinner for a family of five. We arrived early for our reservation but were seated early. Aryan, our waiter was friendly and very efficient. The food was good and tasty. The evening went well. When we left my wife left her wallet with her Real ID, credit card and cash on the table. We had to reschedule our departure flight for another day. When we called the restaurant the next day they were holding the wallet for my wife. We assume that Aryan reserved the wallet for recovery. We were very grateful for that. We will definitely visit Whiskey Cake again when we visit San Antonio in the future.

Food great, service not so much

This is one of the best farm-to-table restaurants we've been to in a long time. The food was well prepared; they provided generous servings and it was well balanced and seasoned. In fact, it was downright delicious. It's too bad the service was lacking. Our waitstaff seemed both uninterested in serving us and unenthusiastic about their job. Everything took longer than it should have...including the drinks...which you'd think they'd be attentive to given the margins. We're on the fence about returning...good food without good service isn't a winning combination.

Good experience

Very good food . Had short rib which was delicious. Other friends enjoyed their meals. Whisky cake delicious. Only negative is the seats are hard and somewhat uncomfortable.

Wow!

I had been wanting to try this place for awhile and kept putting off. Well....I finally tried it and...I loved everything about this restaurant - the atmosphere/decor, the service and the food! I had the chicken & cheese melt and my husband had the OMG 2.0 Burger....both we're really good, but we could finish it all. We had to save some room for the Whisky Cake! Which was awesome. but we couldn't finish that either. We had a lot of leftovers. And everything was just as good the 2nd day!

Amazing flavors

Favorite go to every time! Waiters and waitresses friendly and very attentive! The fresh food and specialty drinks are by far the best of flavors and spices! Sorry Pappadeauxs I found a new love!!

Overpriced

Food was very expensive for the quality. Nice desert but food quality was very poor. Disappointed overall!

Save Room for the Whiskey Cake Dessert

By Marianne |

Busy busy restaurant. Whiskey Cake is a large restaurant with lots of seating and also has a large bar area. We had reservations for 3 of us on a Friday evening and had to wait a decent amount of time before being seated. Kristen was our server and was friendly and engaging. We started with cocktails and two of us ordered the Bee Sting. My friend wanted the jalapeño in hers and I didn’t but asked for mezcal for the tequila. They switched our drinks and I had to wait to get the attention of someone to correct my drink order. We started with the deviled eggs and flash fried Brussels sprouts. The eggs were topped with cranberry & turkey. Pretty yum! The Brussels sprouts weren’t crispy (darn!) but were packed with flavor. We then shared two entrees, the chicken & waffle and the shrimp & grits. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and laid on top creamy cheesy chile grits. Then there’s that malt waffle…light and airy…topped with a very moist and crispy chicken tender. It’s served with maple syrup and gravy on the side. It was delish. The reason you need to go to this restaurant is to order its namesake, the whiskey cake. The manager Matt stopped by our table to ask how we enjoyed the food and then offered us a complimentary whiskey cake. So nice! The whiskey cake is a sticky toffee cake with bourbon anglaise, spiced pecans and house made vanilla whipped cream This cake is absolutely sinful. Don’t miss out on this rich and decadent dessert. Although this restaurant is a chain, it has good food and good cocktails. I’d go back again. Thanks Matt for the cake!

We have been coming here since before Hells Kitchen. I just would like to say we love and respect Mary Lou and always enjoy her food so much! Cocktail pairings are amazing!

The CAKE THOUGH

Ordering a cake called “whiskey cake” seemed really basic and I’ve never had it before. I was very impressed and the cream and everything with it made the cake come together. I am now in love.

Birthday dinner my son

Knowing this place is a bit pricey, prepare your mouth for culinary delight! Had Goat cheese appetizer, beef and of whiskey cake. Drinks were very creative and tasted oh so good, extensive whiskey menu. All our meals were deelicious. Service was good, told server it was my son’s birthday but no recognition…Military discount given

Different but Nice

We stopped by without reservations, but were ahead of the crowd and were seated right away. My wife had the Edamame Falafel Stack and I had the Chicken & Waffle. The Chicken Waffle is a bacon laced waffle with chicken tenders, fried egg and sausage gravy. Both of us enjoyed the meal. They also have salads, other sandwiches and burgers, and full plates with fish or pork or steak. The wait staff was courteous and quick and explained the menu items we asked about. Prices were slightly high, but not unreasonable.

Outstanding!

Whiskey cake is a farm to table restaurant and the menu changes with the seasons. Went on a Saturday night, and from the time we were seated to the end, service was excellent! We were seated right away with no wait and no reservation. The server came by the table quickly to take drink orders. We ordered the goat cheese fondue as an appetizer with some fresh bread wedges. I ordered a chicken and cheese melt sandwich on a gluten free bun. My other half bartered a burger as rare as they were allowed to cook it. A choice of kettle chips or fries are side choices; we both had kettle chips. The chips are fresh made at the restaurant when you order, and they are warm and crispy, residing beside a warm sandwich. Ambiance was low lit with candles lit on each table. The server was intelligent and knew the menu by heart. The food was brought out in a timely manner, allowing us to enjoy the appetizer. The only dessert offered is the Whiskey Cake, so make sure to save some tummy room or get a piece to take home, it’s DELICIOUS!

Creative dishes and great flavors! Impressive bar!

A really impressive restaurant and bar... everything's fresh and from scratch "local farm to table". Starting at the end of our meal, we absolutely loved their famous whiskey cake dessert (make sure to save room for it)! Our "Pickled Rachel" sandwiches were like Reubens and very delicious. And, we began our meal with their gourmet deviled eggs... yummmmm! Excellent service and atmosphere. We look forward to returning one day and will definitely recommend it to others.

Really Different!

By Debra B |

Everything in the restaurant including the decor is made from recycled material or something repurposed. They claim that all menu items are locally sourced. I found the entrees to be a bit bland, but the whiskey cake was to die for! Three of us shared one serving, and there was still some left to take home. It’s just overall a bit too trendy for my taste.

Great place for casual dinner or gathering with friends.

Whiskey Cakes is a nice casual restaurant that prides it self on stakes and whisky but I think it has a lot more. Like it has excellent beer, salmon and an nice environment/vibe. The staff is young but is all about service. The stakes are outstanding and when there I recommend the whiskey flight-see picture. It's located next to a mall so parking in full but not impossible. Try it out you will not regret it!

Mimosas? Scrumptious brunch items.

My girlfriends from college met her for a fun lunch. We stayed 3 hours. This restaurant has a great ombiance with comfortable coaches throughout restaurant. Our visit was on Saturday at lunctime. The breakfast menu was the only one available. No problem though as we all found something that we liked. One unique item is the Mimosa samplerwith 4 different mimosas. The wait staff was excellent. The one thing that I didn’t like was that Eggs Benedict were spicy and I couldn’t eat it. A great restaurant with tasty food , yummy mimosas and great atmossphere .

Let Me Out-a-Here

Nothing to write home about. A limited menu. The food was ‘meh’. There was a lack of seasoning to the entre and the side dishes. The service was okay. I don’t know how to describe the ambiance or lack thereof. It is not a restaurant that I would return to or recommend. It’s representative of chain restaurants in today’s world. Make you ‘think’ you’re at someplace ‘special ‘ when you are really not.

Yes! Dine here.

I was in town for work just one night and was suggested to come here, so did with a colleague. The helpfulness of the staff, despite being busy, was fantastic as a first time diner. I had a eye cocktail which was fantastic. The OMG burger lived up to my hopes and dreams. The chips are great and a bit of brown sugar on edges make them irresistible. The side of brussels was just what I hoped ... if only there had been room to try the deviled eggs which I learned rotate toppings weekly. Oh and I didn’t even get to the atmosphere, decor, ambiance... loved it from the moment we walked in. Yes!

Great Brunch

I have been to this restaurant numerous times. The food is unique and good. You must save room for Whiskey Cake it is sooo good. Their cocktails are great as well.

Magical meal if you order these...

By TheWellTraveledDude |

The local goat cheese fondue is a great starter. (Don’t forget to mix it before you put it on the bread) Also the Thai BBQ duck wings are on delicious. For vegetarians or people who lean towards a fresher start I would recommend the Arrosto Misto (Veggies that taste like steak) I have 3 recommendations for mains: 1. The whiskey braised short rib with pappardelle and mushrooms 2. The duck breast 3. Or for a healthier choice The Salmon or the Bacon and Egg Salad For those with a hangover Chicken & Waffle will do you some good. Don’t forget to finish it all off with nothing other than the whiskey cake!!! As far as drinks go guys love the off the menu “blood and sand” drink (or even ladies who want a little more booze) On the menu drink of choice (for gentlemen and ladies) go for a “Winchester 85” Enjoy Yourself!!! Best waiter ever would have to be Matt!!! He rocks!!!

A must!

From the atmosphere, to the service, to the food & drinks…. Wow! We had reservations and waited approx 10 mins to be seated. The restaurant was very busy for a Wednesday night. The food was amazing but the signature whiskey cake was AH-mazing. We also tried a few of their craft cocktails. Interesting but not really for my liking. We will visit again when SATX

Very Disappointed

By TravelingFriends2015 |

This seems to be a new hip restaurant that offers "Sizable bar/eatery offering seasonal, locally sourced farm-to-kitchen dishes in a woodsy-chic space." We decided to try it out for my birthday with 7 people, ages 14 to 70. The decor was really lovely, but food disappointing. The lamb chops were small and fatty, the fish was not done to person's liking, braised short ribs were ok, and the grilled sirloin unexciting. We did enjoy the candied bacon and fried green tomatoes. I have had whiskey cake at another restaurant which was to die for, this one did not compare or meet my expectations. We just expected a better dining experience. However, I will say our server was good.
