Typical Greasy (Good) Diner

By Erex90 |

DDD did ok on this one. I ordered a skillet and my mom had the chicken and waffles. They were both really good. Service was fairly standard, and pricing was fairly typical for diner food. There was a line when we arrived, but it moved quickly. We walked from the Roosevelt station on Slate Street (needed after consuming so many calories) and back. Not super far, but a decent walk.

A pleasant Surprise

By Vincent R |

Pulling up I would never know just what a delight I was in for, very nostalgic ambiance pleasant staff and the food, oh my.... absolutely wonderful!!! and the pricing was extremely affordable, I would definitely be making another trip there before I leave town

Great American breakfast

By Erica C |

During our stay in Chicago, we wanted good American breakfast at a reasonable price. We stumbled upon this place and enjoyed what we found.

Not bad

By Barakett |

the service was good ,the place was nice ,clean and in great location . The food was good but not amazing ..just average . not expensive compare to the others places around

Guy Fiery May have it wrong

By Mark L |

On the recommendation of guy fiery on diner's and dives we sought this restaurant out. We had the short ribs, Greek chicken , chicken parm and the taco salad. Although the food was just ok, I have to admit that the portion sizes are great and the prices are even better. 4 can dine for 40 bucks easy! Give it a try and make up your own mind

Great food, terrible service

By dlw240 |

The hubby and I went around 7am on a Sunday morning. We got a table right away. Even though it wasn’t crowded it took a while for the server to take our drink order and even longer to bring the drinks...just two cups of coffee. When she left the coffee she didn’t take the order so we waited even longer. So, now we are about 20 minutes in and all we have is coffee. Again, place was not crowded. We order and another 30 minutes or more go by and no food...or coffee refills. Waitress finally comes and says it’s taking a long time because there were a lot of take-out orders ahead of us. Ok. No worries. Thanks for letting us know. Just keep the coffee coming and we understand. But the coffee didn’t keep coming, and we didn’t understand when two tables that sat down a good amount of time after us got their food long before we did. When the food finally came it was great...or maybe it tasted so good just because we were starving by the time it got there. Would have loved more syrup for our pancakes but didn’t ask because we didn’t think it would arrive until lunchtime. During our way too long a time at the restaurant there were no less than 4 groups of customers that complained about their bills being incorrect, and the staff weren’t very friendly or helpful in solving the problems. All things considered, we wouldn’t go back.

Great retro place

By Tamara E |

We stumbled on to the White Palace late at night after a concert. I'm glad we found it! The service was fantastic and our server was a doll. My husband got the meatloaf and mashed potatoes with soup while I had the pecan waffle. Our meals were delicious and I found the prices very reasonable. I was watching all the breakfast plates and burgers come out of the kitchen and I was only disappointed by the fact that we were leaving chicago the next morning and couldn't come back! I thought the decor was awesome and I loved the spinning dessert cabinet. I would absolutely visit again if I'm back in the area.

Best breakfast ever.

This inexpensive 50 style diner was the highlight of my eating experiences in Chicago. Great coffee, great food, and great service. I will be back

Greasy Diner Breakfast w/Great Service

By Michelle R |

This place is always crowded with a variety of customers, from cops to families to couples to teens. Only been here for breakfast, and always have a good dining experience. Service is quick and attentive. The food has sizeable portions and always tastes great.

Had a great breakfast today. Fast service and nice price. Glad we went out of our way. Place was busy and all seemed happy

Great classic Chicago meal!

By SWWolfe |

Really great food! I had the Italian Sausage sandwich - came with soup (I choose Lentel - yum!) and fries. The sausage was topped with marinara sauce and melted cheese! A great Chicago landmark!

It's a diner, it's 24/7...

By Jeff C |

It's a diner, it's 24/7, the only one within blocks, what more can you ask.

tasteless and expensive food, unfriendly staff

By 285priyak |

food was not worth the price they are charging. staff is too unprofessional. they do not provide receipt/bill of the food. better options are available as compared to this place.

totally awesome!!!!!!!!

By andy l |

Was in chicago visited this diner 3 times the food was amazing service very efficient highly recommend it can't wait to go back the breakfasts are brilliant

Average at best

By lh91lh |

Stopped there because I saw the place on food network. The service was friendly. The menu showed no concept. Our food (cheese omelett and polish sausage) was greasy, tasteless and not prepared well. I don't know for what reason this place was on food network, but i would not stop there again.

Typical local diner

By effintravelers |

This is a little corner diner at the end of a busy street. Easy to find. Service was excellent. Meatloaf was awesome! Cheap and lots of food. Would go back again!

No Go - they overcharge you and charge aditional "dine out" prices for Milkshake in a Glass

By Holger H |

Finger weg! They overcharge you and not like if someone eats leftovers. Ordered a Choclate Milkshake for 4,79 and Meatlover Omelett for 10,29 what comes to an total of 15,08 plus 11,25% Tax = 16,78 I paid 19,20 Even I take in concideration my Grits had Cheese and that this cost with Tax 1,10 extra I been overcharged 1,22 That is taken already in concideration, that a waitress gave me back the 50 cent I was aditional overcharged "Dine Out" for sure dining in as I had 1 h 45 to kill. The whole acompaining Story: During I waited for my Food I took a Picture of a nice Mural in that unwelcoming Restaurant. Immedeately the Cashier stood next to me - maliciously what I'm doing their. Also how he overlooked everything made me feel like at a Prison Feeding. I hate it when Food is wasted. AFTER conducting the Buisiness I saw that someone just ate half of his plate. So I asked him he will still eat the rest and as he denied "Could I have it". He agreed. Suddenly the "Prison Overlooker" came to me that I can't do that bla bla (and I say he can not waste Food if someone want to eat what is already paid). I needed to explain him that it is a thing between me and the other Costumer and not between me and him. In no way I took money from him - as it is not affecting him who is paying what leave the kitchen and I even ordered an additional Milk Shake... While I waitet for my Milk Shake and ate the Rest of the egg he came again to me and asked where I'm from. But not for a friendly talk - just to ask me afterwards "Are you doing that their too?" "Oh yes I do that in EVERY Country and many here do even dumster diving" He asked me to leave without knowing I ordered something more. As he would like to earn that money too he asked then to leave after that IMMEADETLY regardless I been fare from the posted 2 h Maximum Stay. Because a Bill of 19,20 $ seemed steep for my Food I looked up all prices in the Menu and searched on Google how high is the Sales Tax for "Downtown Restaurant" and encountered the described overcharges. As he denied to talk with me I called Police. While I know exactly what I ordered and that I NOT ordered extra cheese for an Omelett that included already cheese and that I had been choosen because of that, Police gave HIM the right as they not been their as I ordered. Legal Fraud. I know that my order was clearly and could not been mistaken as I even talked with the waitress about the INCLUDED Cheese. The waitress wanted to give me back the 2 overcharged Bucks, but the Carekeeper prevented this before the eyes of the Police. Like always the Police is on the Side of the rich. They also asked me to leave inside 5 min. At that unpleasent place I not needed 1 min to leave - telling many others not to go their and why - that he looses much more money as he earned aditional with cheating me.... DO NOT GO THEIR!

Good food

By Alex B |

Good ol greasy diner food, A+. Down side very hard to find parking, can get a little crowded at times so be a little patient.

As Good as Expected

By Mike T |

If you follow "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives", this place has been on their show. While I'm not sure what dish Guy Fieri featured on his show, the online menu of this restaurant told me that it was the place to go. You just don't see those selections on many menus nowadays. We didn't eat anything fancy. In fact, this place is NOT fancy at all. VERY CASUAL. My wife only ordered biscuits and gravy, which was her main reason for wanting to go there, and she wasn't let down. Said it was the best she'd ever had. I felt the same about my Monte Cristo sandwich. Those are hard to find these days...and if you do, they aren't always great, but this was THE BEST. Told the owner I wish there were more places like his around. Will definitely return during our next visit to Chicago.

Shirt Steak, Eggs & Grits to start 2016

By k5of6 |

After Seeing bringing in the new year with John Oliver and we stayed at the Hyatt McKormic Place. When we woke up, it was tike for a 2016 breakfast. Driving past the White Palace over the years it was a needed breakfast start. Skirt Steak & eggs, a bowl of grits & good cup of Joe, ham & eggs with cheese. That was the order. Thewait was not that bad, 25-30mins, the host was very nice. The steak was done very well, thee eggs good, the grits were great. My wife enjoyed her ham & eggs. We joked with the party next to us. All in all, it was a bery good experience. It's nice to go to a Chicago Icon and see why it has lasted for years. A great way to start 2016. Thank you to all the staff. Happy New Year!

Great food and great service

By Utrocket71 |

We enjoyed stopping here for lunch. The staff was very friendly and the food was very good. The serve breakfast all day as well as good lunch and dinner items. They have a very extensive menu with lots of choices. This is diner-like atmosphere and makes me feel very nostalgic. I'd go back.

Chicago

By Dorothy D |

If you get to Chicago, you have to stop at this corner grill. The owner is very friendly and the prices are reasonable. This place was on the Dinner, Diners and Dives. Décor is really cool!

Great old fashioned breakfast

By Charlie-Acuna |

To taste local flavors and homemade style this is a very good place; portions are very generous and prices fair. There are many options and you can always ask for the house special. We were six in our group and everything we ordered was well prepared and the service is also very good. We just visited for breakfast but it's open 24 hours, although the neighborhood does not seem very nice at night. Parking may be a problem but there is a mall nearby.

Vacation

By Fe Fe P |

I visited this place twice while on vacation. The food was good and the staff was friendly. The first time I went it was overnight so it was crowded but got served in a timely manner. 2nd time it was my last day in Chicago for vacation.

Delicious throwback to the old 50’s diners

By Robert B |

The wife and I had taken the dogs to Montrose Dog Beach to watch the sunrise and give the puppies a bit of exercise. After a few hours on the beach, we both realized that we didn’t have anything to eat when we set out that morning. We decided to check out the White Palace Grill, since we had just seen it on the WGN News. We were not disappointed. Seating: Maybe because it was 6:30am, but seating was easy as pie. We had a booth near the entrance with a view of early morning Chicago. The booth was clean and dry and very roomy. I hate cramped booth seating!!! Service: Since it was our first time there, we didn’t know if we should wait to be seated when we walked in, but after a quick five seconds, it became apparent that, at that time of the morning, you can seat yourself. I don’t know if that is different at busy hours. The menu is on the table at all times. Our server was at the table within the first sixty seconds offering coffee and juice, and then she left us to view the menu. Within one minute, she was back with our coffee, and then gave us a few minutes more to decide on our breakfast. My wife ordered an omelet and I had eggs and Pancakes. After ordering, the meal arrived within seven or eight minutes, which I thought was fairly quick compared to other breakfast outlets. Quality of food: My wife’s omelet was huge and packed with ingredients, but her only complaint was that it was a tad bit dry. My eggs were cooked to perfection (I can be a bit of a stickler when it come to my eggs) and the serving size was generous. The pancakes were the size of an average dinner plate (BIG) and there were three of them stacked. The syrup was warmed and plenty of butter. The coffee was good and hot and the juice seemed to be fresh. Value and overall: Considering the location and the amount and quality of food, the White Palace Grill is good value for money. The nostalgic look and feel of the diner is a huge plus and transports you to a time when there were diners like this were all over the place…especially in Chicago. Wonderful time!

Great Diner, Great Waffles! Loved it!

By Nazeeh83 |

Don't let the sight of the night security guards put you off - this is one of the best 50's style diners in town. The service is friendly and pretty quick for the amount of people they serve. We showed up around 1am and were promptly seated and tended to. I had seen this place on the Food Network, and heard many good things about it from locals and on the web, so it was a natural choice for me. There's nothing special about the settings - this is your standard 1950's diner with cracked tables, and posters and signed pictures plastered across the walls. The breakfast omelettes were delicious, and the waffles were to die for. The Polish sausage was also very, very good, and the menu has enough items to cater to any taste. Loved the coffee, loved the food, and loved the price. Definitely a great breakfast diner, and would love to go back when I visit Chicago again.

Good Home Cooking!

By Carole D |

We took two teenage boys here after a day of sightseeing. They both ordered the Mama White's waffles and chicken. The amount of food that was served was amazing and both boys cleaned their plates. The pancakes and spinach omelette were also very tasty. Large amount of food, very courteous staff and a great price. The boys wanted to go back the next day!

Horrible and disgusting

By Explore634566 |

Do not go there!!!! The food is nasty. I asked for barbecue chicken and they brought me a boil chicken that has a can of barbecue dump on. The rest of the food was also nasty. The bread was old and the fries was from frozen bag!!!! Also, the manager attitude was terrible. Nothing about the diner is good...

Much more than you can imagine without greasy spoons!

By Barbara S |

I had worked locally for nearly a decade and always treasured their food and friendly atmosphere. This visit needed to boost our mood, after leaving a hotel a day early because of the room conditions. Cold and tired, we limped into White Palace and immediately our smiles returned. The fresh hot coffee aroma permeated the room and drew us in, along with the genuine warm welcome of the staff. The bacon was exceptional, the Greek omelet was feast on a plate. But the raisin roast stole the show. I wish I had bought an entire loaf: it was that special. The locals all seemed to be regulars, each with stories to tell that Studs Terkel could plumb if he had the chance. Working class heroes all!

Breakfast

By M10N |

Uber driver recommended this spot as a good breakfast place. I wish I hadn't waisted my time. I asked if it was a above the norm diner spot, he assured me it was awesome!!...NOT!!!!

Truck stop at a Bus Stop

By rachel e |

Imagine you are driving along any interstate. It is late and you are hungry. That truck stop ahead sign said diner open 24 hours. You decide to pull off. Order a club sandwich and a coke. "Sorry, no coke, our Co2 canister is out". Forget there is grocery store next door where you could get some coke while your system is out, but sorry. That requires out of the diner thinking. The food is edible, the service is unprofessional and the the lady at the cash register looks like she had just done crack. THAT, my friends is White Palace Grill.

So incredibly yummy!

By rhinestonemom |

We're in town for a few days. We went for late night and it was a great choice! We all got breakfast - waffles, pancakes, omelet, hash browns, biscuits and gravy- we covered the gamut in our group. Everything was outstanding. The retro atmosphere is a happy bonus! Our server Daisy was so friendly and nice too.

great diner..great service

By s g |

first time here and sat at the counter. Breakfast and lunch dinner plates were the course for us and they did not disappoint. Service was excellent and our coffee always full till we left. great place for everyone and one of my new solids when in Chicago.

Worth the wait if there is a line! Great diner!

By Mickie T |

We have only been here for breakfast but continue to go back for the great food and quick service. There is usually a wait on Sunday mornings but it is worth it! The tables move quickly so the wait is never long. The food is consistently good and the coffee has a bottomless cup.

Saw it on Diners Drive Ins and Dives....but it's not worth the trip

By purewaves |

Our first time checking out a place from Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. All I have to say is, Guy Fieri, you suck. This place was thoroughly average at best. I got the steak and eggs and my girl got a bacon omelette with grits and a side of pancakes. Truth be told, the food wasn't all that bad, but to tout this joint as something special is rather misleading. It's average at best. That's it, nothing more. But boy they really milk that Fieri publicity for all its worth. There's DD&D crap everywhere, and they even sell shirts with his face on it. They owners should probably worry less about slinging gear and more about cooking pancakes through. If you are thinking about stopping by here after seeing the White Palace on DD&D, take my advice...don't bother. It's really not worth the time or effort.

Not expensive but not incredible

By Nikow69 |

The good thing is that its open all day long. But food is so basic and kind of tasteless. Service is okay and pretty fast

Classic Diner

By RML1 |

This place has been in the same location since 1939. It serves classic "Nighthawks at the Diner" food 24/7. Honest and simple food served with an attentive wait staff. Authentic in the truest sense of the word.

Good food, good environment

By Brian C |

Stopped here for breakfast. Had seen it on TV and looked like good old-fashioned diner food. We were not disappointed. The chicken fried steak was delicious with a nice gravy and has browns. The scrambled eggs were, well, scrambled eggs. The Texas omelette was really good. It had a nice flavor on the chili and onions. Do not expect a grand out of the world experience, but the man taking money at the front was personable and entertaining, and sitting at the counter was a good experience. It is annoying to have only one refill listed, but I understand with what the crowd may be late on weekend nights. Overall a good place and pretty quick considering the crowd on Sunday morning.

Good breakfast

By Zutot |

Randomly stumbled across this place. It seemed busy so we tried it out. We had to queue for about 10 mins to get a table. Staff were very nice and food was decent plus a good price. I had the 2x2x2x2 breakfast. A tonne of food and tasty. The place is very old school diner, originally opened in 1939. For that reason alone, it's worth checking out I think.

A Bit Disappointed

By RickMIusa |

Heard a lot about this place. It's in a near impossible location if you have a car.....hard to find the parking garage entrance and then once you get it, you really really can't find your way down to the restaurant. The food was mediocre at best. A good menu, very good service with friendly wait staff, but the items were pretty average. Couldn't find anything we would consider a signature item. Maybe we had hyped our hopes up too much.....we were a bit disappointed.

Friendly waitsaff sub par food.

By tom s |

I went there this last Saturday real early morning with my girlfriend. The waitress was very attentive. The back room we sat in was noisy and almost every grown adult guest seated back there was yelling, cursing, and being disrespectful to all of the staff. I feel very bad for staff having to with the crowd that was there this morning. We left the waitress more than 20% but the food did not deserve any credit. Maybe I should have researched more on what to order because the chicken and waffles tasted like cafeteria nuggets, and frozen waffles. I may try it again I just want to know what I should order?

The place for breakfast!

By Urklnme |

We saw this restaurant on Guy F's Triple D. It was all he said for sure. The breakfast items we had (four of us went) we great. Great service too. Very reasonable on price too. Next time I visit Chicago, my hotel will be closer to the White Palace Grill!!!

Good Food

By Larry Barnett |

This place was once featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. I can understand why. The menu is quite large. The portions are larger. Everyone is quite friendly. The entire visit moves in a quick, orderly, efficient manner!!!!!!

Hit the spot

By Reggie C |

We stumbled upon this little gem. We took wrong turn from O'Hare trying to head north Chicago and found ourselves near downtown. Figured lets give it a try. It's a busy little diner the food was wonderful. The corn beef was layered on top f nicely seasoned cabbage. The portion sizes where more than adequate for the price.

Great Service; Food-Par for the Course

By Deborah F |

My brother recommended this because of a DDD episode. We're native Chicagoans but had never eaten here before. Everyone was very friendly; our server was wonderful! Food was serviceable. My brother and his wife cleaned their plates...French toast and pancakes, bacon, and sausage. We all had traditional breakfast fare. I had the corned beef skillet with pancakes. None of us tried the DDD-recommended biscuits and gravy because that's not anyone's flow. Food, overall, was good but nothing special, and I was disappointed to see that the corned beef was pieces of sliced meat. If $82 before tip for five adults and three kids sounds reasonable, have at it. I'll give them an extra half star for great service.

Lovely "old school" diner

By dmbia |

This is an "old school" diner, basically the closest thing to Waffle House you'll find in a northern city. The staff is friendly without being overbearing, the service was quick, the food was excellent, and the entire restaurant was immaculate. It's a bit of a chore to get there on public transit, but I'd make a point of eating there again.

Best Burger

By tiffben |

Visited here on a late Saturday night after a movie. Service was a bit slow for a To Go order but after one bite of my mushroom burger with bacon, all was forgotten. You could tell they use good quality beef and it was huge! The food was so good my son begged to go back the next day.

Busy, crowded, good breakfast.

By pmmnc |

Being packed on a Sunday morning I thought would've been a good sign... it was good (had a skillet) but not great. Got the recommendation from a local, but I won't return unless there is no wait.

Great service and food

By Alin M |

Was in the area with some friends visiting from Europe. They loved the place, the service and the food. No waiting, very respectful waitresses and the food delicious ! Keep up the good work!

Great greasy spoon diner

By Recoveryguy72 |

This restaurant was suggested to my wife after she ate breakfast alone while I was attending a conference. I could tell this diner had been around a while and that's a good thing. My wife informed me that, from person who recommended this diner, that the owner refused to sell his spot to a developer to build a mall so they built around him. I think many people to come will be grateful he didn't. I enjoyed the retro look of the diner. It seems to still be family owned. We went at lunch time but they serve breakfast all day. I therefore ordered the New York strip with two eggs and hash browns. The steak was cooked to order. Their hash browns had a mixture of potatoes, onions, and bacon which I thought made it stand out. My wife ordered a hamburger which she found out came with fries and soup. She ordered the chicken soup and you can tell instantly this is homemade. I sampled the soup and it made me reminiscent of grandmas chicken soup. Some of the best chicken soup I've tried. Her burger was homemade also which definitely looked appetizing but did not try due to my own abundance of food. There was a lady at the table behind us who asked me did I get the Tuesday special since she proceed to tell me all the food that comes with it. If you want to eat at a place where you get your money's worth and offers a variety of good homemade offerings this is the place. I also think Guy Fieri has visited because there was an autographed picture of him along with some staff wearing t-shirts with restaurant logo and picture of Guy.

Very Good Food!

By Amy M |

My 7 year old daughter and I visited here after a long day of touring. We went on Saturday and so I had the daily special which was spare ribs. Yum ! They were tender and so delicious! Served with corn and garlic bread. It was great!

A good place to fill that hole in your stomach at 4 am

By larryknobel |

I'm in Chicago with my bud and he recommended that we stop by the White Palace Grill. He called its the Truck stop because he said it is where the Truckers stop to get food down in this part of town. Well, I don't know about that...I didn't see any truckers (Can you really tell?) But if they do come here...it's easy to know why. First, the wait staff was extremely attentive btw our needs. They gave us...well me..plenty of time to look at their rather large menu of options. Being a diner...you can order Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner at anytime of the day. My bud went with his tried and true here, the 2x2x2x2. Two Pancakes, Two Eggs, Two Bacon and Two Sausages. They were served quick, hot and they were gone down his throat in no time. I'm a weirdo...I don't care for breakfast...maybe French toast, but that's about it. So, I ordered from the dinner menu and got the Chicken Parmesan. It came with two pieces of garlic bread and a choice of soup or salad. It being 5 am by the time we put the order in...yes, I took that long. There was no soup...so I had the salad. It wasn't anything special...but it was obvious that the lettuce had been cleaned and the tomato and cucumbers were well prepared. The Chicken Parm. came out hot and crispy and I certainly dosed it with plenty of Parmesaen Cheese. I had read in a recent review that the bathrooms were extremely dirty at 3am in the morning when the other reviewer had been here. Well, I came on a very busy Satruday morning...70%-80% occupancy...and while the bathrooms had for sure been "used" quite a bit...they could have used a quick cleaning...they weren't in any way "Disgusting" as the other reviewer had stated. In conclusion, if you want to go and get some fast, hot and good food for a little less than a medium price...I wholeheartedly recommend then White Palace Grill!

Typical American diner with great food

By Bingjumper |

We visited this place after passing it going shopping one day. It is also featured on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri TV program. Despite the other reviews we found the place to be clean, service was excellent, and always offering free refills on the coffee and tea. We had brunch, my wife french toast with eggs and bacon, and myself the Harveys corned beef hash skillet. Both were plentiful and served quickly and hot. Typical American old style diner, we would definitely visit this place again.

Awesome breakfast dive

By Tikilounge_SEA |

Yes, the place is hole but it is the last remnant from the Maxwell Street Market Days before the neighborhood was gentrified and the food is equally the same. This is one of those dying establishments that help retain the gritty yet colorful image of Chicago and a excellent choice for a sit down meal at 3am and a slightly higher alternative to white castle.

Unexpected Find

By monmar22 |

My husband and I were looking for a good (quick) place to eat on the way out of the city yesterday. I found this little gem on line. GREAT service!!! Great Food and Great prices! We will definitely be back. I am a vegetarian and they were very accomodating for me as well. Huge plus!!!! My husband is a huge meat eater and he had no problems ;)

White Palace grill

By Ron S |

We are avid fans of Diner's, Drive-in's and Dives. When we go on family trips we incorporate DDD into our vacation. Our trip to Chicago was no different and we thought a diner would be good since DDD was there. We wanted to visit other restaurants too but didn't have the time. We went to White Palace the first night we were in town (Thursday). We were seated right away which was a great start. Well, we were actually disappointed in our meal. Waitress couldn't get the drink order correctly and it took a while for that. We ordered the greek chicken and it was fair at best. This is the one meal that was premiered and we thought this should be the way to go. Also ordered a burger and it was above average. The salads were very fresh and tasty and good sized too for a side salad. The vegetables for the entree were canned. I think if we were there to order burgers or breakfast food, we would have a different opinion. We saw other family members there too who obviously are fans of DDD and were following a similar plan as we were. Staff was friendly but could have been a bit more attentive to our orders for drinks and so forth. We thought the prices were a good value. Overall, a typical diner fare that was average for the meals we ate.

good breakfast reasonable price

The Chi Experience Foodie Style 😋

By Adrienne B |

Hungry? No matter what time, this is the place for you. 24/7 Good food, great service, nice size portions, & a pretty extensive menu. Featured on 3Ds, the food is ALWAYS well prepared. Chi vibe wrap around counter, roomy red & white booths, & rear tables.

An experience

By 262michaelm262 |

At 5am on a Saturday morning you can find many drunk and disorderly people inside being loud and obnoxious. Mine even had several sick individuals who could not control their bodily functions. The food and the service were good but forget the late night crowds.

Good Food, Horrible Service!!!

By Tristan S |

Groups of 5 or more can't get split checks and gratuity of 18% automatically included. After certain hours you have to prepay before your food is made. Service was absolutely the worse and I would probably never go back if the food wasn't good. I enjoyed my food even after all the attitude from wait staff, ensure you ask for everything the way you like it, to avoid having to send it back. All in all it was ok.

Perfect, Authentic Diner

By pghgrl_ny |

We're used to Jersey diners, which are no joke. We trekked over a mile to White Palace with high expectations and weren't disappointed. Our server Michelle was the real deal, and our breakfast food (omelette, pancakes) was perfect. White Palace has breakfast all day, and that is always a good thing. The grits were excellent, and the fried chicken and waffles looked unreal. Endless menu, something for everyone. Highly recommend.

Wrong on Many Levels

By Ronald W |

First, the food. Dry hamburger, frozen onion rings, and mystery meat "veal". I ordered onion rings instead of fries with the burger plate, and was charged 5.99 for 6 onion rings. When I asked the server about this, she told me there are no substitutions. When I asked the manager about this she explained that it costed 1 dollar to trade up to onion rings. I am not sure what is going on, but there is definitley a lack of communication. Worse than the food was the fact that servers were making fun of some of the customers. It was black, gay pride in the city, and the servers were making fun of customers that were there to enjoy that event. You are entitled to your opinion, but keep it to yourself when you are within hearing distance of me, and I am a paying customer. I should have left when the biggoted conversation started; I regret now that I did not. At least I know I will never return.

Always Good

By Gamingtildawn |

This is a local's haven. The food is always hot, fresh and delicious. A very extensive menu. Breakfast served all day. They have counter, booth and table seating. Great for families, large groups or business. It is open 24 hours and always jumping! Enjoy! Try the extra thick French toast...

Evening meal

By marmite724 |

I had the fried chicken and fries and my husband had steak. Both meals were huge and very tasty. I brought some back with me as there was so much! Our server , Michelle was lovely too. Highly recommend a visit here if you are in Chicago

late supper

By lorajean309 |

My sister and I both had the hot roast beef sandwich. No way was the roast beef or the gravy homemade. We were very disappointed.

Felt like I was back in NJ

By Amanda D |

This is definitely a locals only place. It has the feel of a diner back in my home state of NJ. I sat at the counter (which is a great place to talk to the locals) and had the Denver Omelette sandwhich. Perfect portion and it came with pickles. If you enjoy a good walk, take the Red Line and walk the 10 minutes. It's well worth it.

Consistent!!!

By Chitown_Que |

I have never eaten anything but breakfast food here and probably never will. Lol. The food and the service are always consistently above average. The food is resonably priced and budget friendly, plus they are 24 hours. Trusty standby for those late late late nights out.

Another Triple D Positive Experience!

By Danny L |

We stopped specifically because of what we had seen on Triple D. We enjoyed a late breakfast before heading to the Sears/Willis Tower Sky Deck. The staff was very friendly and the menu had a great selection. My food was very good, not over the top fabulous, but good! I would recommend this as a stop to anybody in the Chicago area. We sat in a booth by the window, certainly some "interesting" people going by.

Small Restaurant with Good Food & Great Service

By Bonnie T |

This was our first visit to White Palace Grill, and we’ll be back. The food was very good, and our server Janet was excellent. The restaurant is small, but we didn’t have to wait long for a seat. The only downside was that we had to find street parking, and it’s extremely crowded in the area.

Exactly what I was looking for

By Dario R |

I'm Italian. You know how italians are with food... well, I had the best breakfast in a very long time! I was visiting Chicago for the first time and I wanted to have my meal in a place like this. I know there are other iconic diners around, but White Palace Grill was so good, staff included, and next time I'll just go back there straight with no doubt. Yes man! Can't wait to be back in Chicago, that breakfast and the service made my day! Thanks guys

Badly disappointed

By cclakeman |

Have to say the reviews of this place had me sold but it didn’t pan out this time. I ordered the fried chicken which is supposed to be one of their specialties. The chicken wasn’t anything to brag about. The breading had no flavor. The mashed potatoes and gravy were served with brown gravy! Oh no! It’s always cream gravy with fried chicken! I made a huge effort to find this place and try it but can say it wasn’t worth it. Just an average diner.

A Perfect Breakfast Place - even late at night!

By Steamplay |

This is the second time I've eaten here. My son goes to college nearby (IIT Campus) and took me here as he knows I'm a Diner, Drive Ins and Dives fan. White Palace fits it perfectly and I again had french toast with eggs served as ordered. My son had chicken and waffles and loved it. Service was great, this time later at night and joint wasn't busy. Last time was a Sunday breakfast time and it was very busy but the service still was good. If you like funky diner breakfasts don't miss this one.

Another great Triple D Resto

By LikethetripFantastic |

I was in Chicago and wanted to check out some Triple D locations. There were two of us for lunch at the White Palace. The service was quick and friendly. My lunch partner had the Reuben sandwich and I had the Tilapia sandwich. Both were excellent choices. With soft drinks, before tip, the bill was less than $22. This is a classic diner that has been in business since the 1930s.Well worth a visit.

Grease lightning

By Michael W |

If you want to feel like beeing in the middle of the Grease Movie, this is the place to go. The food is all american diner style, and you will probably get a red Cherry on top of your milk shake. Decor is classic and the staff is fast, friendly and very accommodating. If you want breakfast at one in the morning, this is the place to go - it is never closed. (Take a cap though, if it is late).

Sister Resturant to Hollywood Grill up North from North Ave and Ashland. It is Decent

By Art J |

Not the best of places but it's decent it's the sister restaurant to Hollywood grill up on Ashland and North avenue. In regards to breakfast again it's decent I've been eating out or dining out too often so I ended up getting three eggs instead of two eggs static reading for scrambled eggs and pork patties and instead of ordering pancakes hash browns and toast I just wanted the fruit option. I've gone to White palace grill before ended it's not disappointing but it's nothing I'm going to get excited about.the good thing about them is that they're open 24 hours so if you are craving for breakfast this is a decent place to go to. You could also order anything outside that's not breakfast or lunch meals next to their desserts which is actually very good for cakes, pie etc. Again decent but nothing great.

Diners, Drive-ins, and Drives joint

By n3103f |

Hey, it's a real diner and lives up to that billing. The wait staff is very friendly, casual, and do everything they can to make you feel at home. Great people, great food, and an interesting atmosphere.

OMG AMAAAAAZING!

By Xtina_love85 |

Definitely visit when in the area!! From pancakes to steak, they make everything amazing!!! The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is so laid back!!

Saw this place on tv and had to try it. Glad I did.

By bansheeman |

You cannot go wrong here. The short rib was phenomenal. We went back for breakfast because it was so good.

Great Breakfast at White Palace

By Ron S |

Have always loved this place! It is like a diner with many offerings on the menu. We had breakfast and opted for : 2x2x2x2 perfectly prepared pancakes, eggs and meats. Mexican Scramble with chili, onions, peppers This food was fantastic and prepared with love! Our server was excellent. Having been here many times, I must say that is always the case at this Chicago Classic.

Best pancakes

By Kristen S |

Went there when saw it on Diners, drive ins and dives and man the place was packed! Wait staff was friendly. I got the 2x2x2x2 (pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage) and it was delicious and filling. I will need to return!

Good Food

By Brittany C |

Whenever I am in Chicago I try to go to places that are not in Indianapolis, where I live. Good thing for me I have friends that know all the spots to go. We went here after a late night of drinks and a trip to the lake. The food was great. I got a meat skillet with eggs and pancakes. It was good. The service was good as well. A major con was the atmosphere at that time. It is downtown Chicago so you can kind of guess what type of crowd it draws around 2 or 3 am. They do not split checks which is not convenient. The food was great enough for another visit along with the service however I will try to make it at another time as there was an episode where they had to call security and escort someone out. Yes that is right, security is in full force at this diner. I would for sure recommend this place to others because of the food and service alone.

Journey Back To The 1950's Diner!

By Faustina B |

I walked in & went back in time to the 1950's. This spacious restaurant is amazing. I ordered the Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Fries & drink. Delicious! The owner & staff was very welcoming & cordial. I will be back again.

Its OK

If you are shopping around and need to eat, its an alternative. Open 24h its a tipical highway restaurant of 60s' Just an alternative if you are close! Dont spend time just to go there!

This is what a diner is supposed to be

By Taylor B |

If you're an out-of-towner, or even if you are a local and have never been there before, you have to go to the White Palace Grill at Canal and Roosevelt on Chicago's near South Side if for no other reason that to absorb the wonderful view of the skyline of downtown Chicago. Open since 1939, the White Palace Grill may be the finest example of an urban diner in Chicago. In addition to an extensive lunch and dinner menu, this urban oasis serves up eggs practically any way you can think of 24 hours a day. The diner attracts policemen, city workers, firemen, businessmen, college students, politicians, the after-hours crowd and just about anybody. It's a great place for people watching. You can enjoy breakfast any time...strip steak or ribeye with two eggs, meat skillet with eggs and pancakes, hash and two eggs, egg sandwiches, French toast, Belgian waffles and what is described as "Chicago's No. 1 omelette." For lunch, try the chicken fingers, chicken wings, salads or one of many sandwiches, including Italian sausage, perch, catfish, ham, tuna, tilapia and turkey. If you have a big appetite, order the A1burger. It is a half-pound of hamburger with A1 Steak Sauce, onion, tomato, cheese, bacon and lettuce. Or you can try the wraps, enchiladas, tacos, burritos, nachos or quesadillas. Another favorite is the Monte Cristo sandwich, which consists of ham, turkey and Swiss cheese on French toast. Dinner? Glad you asked. There is pasta (veal parmesan, spaghetti with meatballs or Italian sausage), steaks, chicken, seafood, chili, baked meat loaf, breaded veal cutlet, half-slab barbecue ribs, pork chops, country fried steak, beef and club sandwiches. And if you have room for dessert, the menu features banana splits, shakes, sundaes, pies, cakes and cheesecake. Recommendation: Canal Street still remains one of the fastest routes into the Loop, thus avoiding I-94 and the Outer Drive. White Palace Grill also has three other locations--Hollywood Grill at 1601 West North Avenue, Plymouth Restaurant and Bar at 327 S. Plymouth Court and Ody's Drive Inn at Grand and August. I don't know if their cuisine and service measures up to the original. But if you are in the neighborhood, it's worth a try.

Diner in Chicago? Yes

By Anders O |

Mmmm I’m eating home made corned beef hash at 4am. Diner food rarely gets better than this. I just got back from traveling overseas and this diner made my night :) conveniently located near the downtown bus station

OMG...What a Great Place or Should I say Palace?

By goodlittleeater |

My girlfriend and I went for lunch. Both had cream of mushroom soup, meatloaf, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Oh,so good. Coffee was fabulous too. And service beyond belief. I am going back for catfish soon...saw an order and almost sat down with the people!

Chicken and waffles

My wife and I went in on the 4th of July after watching the fireworks. She had never eaten chicken and waffles before but she thought it sounded good and we both cleaned our plates!

Girls Weekend

By KCmdwFA |

For all fans of Diners, Driveins & Dives, Guy Fieri knows good food. But this place has been here so long & has the locals vote too! Huge menu, breakfast all day, classic diner favorites. I come here every time in Chicago.

Grab a quick bite

By Vicki Z |

Tried this diner with friends while in the city. Breakfast is served 24 hours which is a plus. The diner was very clean and the staff friendly. The food is average but good. Prices are fair. There is sure to be something on the menu to suit you. I had the reuben which had tender and lean corned beef. Perfect place for something quick.

A Diner Doesn't Get Much Better!

By David B |

We saw the White Palace Grill (www.whitepalacegrill.com ) presented on 3D - it seemed too good to be true - so, we had to try it. We showed up at noon on Sunday for breakfast, and everything we'd heard about the White Palace was/is true. My measure for a good diner breakfast in the Midwest is the "skillet" - hash browns, topped with eggs and cheese and whatever else is on offer. I ordered the vegetarian skillet. The hash browns were home made, 100%. The eggs (sunny side up) were perfect. The spinach, mushrooms & broccoli were fresh & mixed in with the hash browns. Fantastic! And, they were accompanied by a small stack of the best pancakes we have ever tasted - melted butter, hot maple syrup - after the skillet (one of the best I've ever had), they were perfect. My partner had the veal parmesan - covered in cheese with some spaghetti and sauce. The veal was breaded, tender and the parmesan breading made it melt in your mouth. Served with a great salad and garlic bread (home made) - it was fantastic. They have vegetarian options for almost every taste (try the veggie chili). Their desserts are fresh and delicious (try the apple pie a la mode). The White Palace is up there in the top ten, perhaps the top five, diners we have tried. Definitely worth a visit - again and again!

Yummy diner.

By xyia |

These ratings are for diner not a Five star restaurant. Pancakes are excellent and the chicken parm is good. Hash brown were tasty. Everything was good and one of the cheapest meals I had while in Chicago.

Yummy Diner Food

By DiannaFa |

Trying out some of the Diner, Drive-ins and Dives locations for Chicago and came across this place. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, mashed potatoes and country sausage gravy. It was good, but the best part was the food was HOT liked they cooked it to order. My grandson had the hot turkey sandwich and he liked it, but said he liked mine better. (Grandma's is always better!) The gravy’s weren’t homemade, but still tasty. The portions were huge better and we couldn’t finish the meals. Our server was a wonderful woman who took great care to see that we were happy with our lunch. Want diner food food, come here for the food and experience.

White Palace Gril.... Featured in Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives

By scj22 |

Great Diner Opened 24 Hours!!! We had a wonderful brunch of Texas Omelet of their Famous Chile smothered with onions and bell peppers and melted american cheese; Italian sausage with bell peppers & cheese along with fluffy pancakes and great coffee!! Great food and what made the experience complete was our waitress JO !!!! She is hilarious, keeps you laughing and provides great service! Will be back!

A True Diner

By mike s |

I was born, raised, and still live in Chicago. Went to the White Palace for the first time June 4 2015. Had great meal. If you ask me a diner means breakfast. I had breakfast. The meat skillet . Real potatoes, sausage, ham, and bacon. Two eggs on top. THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING 'BOUT. My daughter had the french toast. Perfect. Just enough cinnamon. My wife had chicken 'n' waffles. My wife could not eat the waffles fast enough. They were good. Chicken; classic three step breading ( my on pinion) cooked right. Will go back!!!!!!

Nice Honest place

By Leonardo_g_Rangel |

We had a great surprise with White Palace. Is a out of way dinner with classic american design and food. All plates are Well served and very cost/benefit. They are not sophisticated ones but very tasteful.

Great for late night munchies

By bseo-pero |

There aren't many places in Chicago where they're open past 10pm on a Wednesday. White Place, open 24/7, is a great place to have a bite to eat when the munchies hit. Their breakfasts are awesome, and I particularly like the onion rings. Ice cream sundaes, YUM! However, I'd stay away from the cakes. I think they're bought at CostCo or Sam's Club and sold at a ridiculous price. The service can be hit or miss. We had one waitress who earned a 40% tip, and another who barely earned the requisite 10%.

Good diner food

By ashley f |

My parents used to eat at this place in the late 80s. They have remodeled and revamped this place since then. The food is always good, the portions are plentiful & the atmosphere is laid back except for late nights during the weekends can be pretty packed. This is one of my favorite spots to eat at when I'm in the south loop. Everythinh is reasonably priced & its good diner food.

Pretty Darn Good

By m w |

Located in the South Group area of Chicago not far from the South loop....a friendly diner with pretty darn good comfort food. Fried chicken and fish ordered by other diners looked pretty compelling, but chicken and waffles was top notch for diner food. Open 24 hours. Close by Best Buy, and other major retailers in the area...and close to I94.

Classic

By Ulf_Nordin |

Had lunch here with five friends. Friendly staff and food arrived more or less at the same time for all of us. Lot’s of food. Great for traditional american diner food, and great feeling. Try it!

Lots of food for a great price

By David T |

Went with 6 friends -Diner -Lots of locals not a tourist spot Pros: Large menu Prices are very reasonable Portions are large Staff friendly and efficient Cons: Location of bathrooms right in dining room

GO for LUNCH!!!

By stephaniefromcanada |

This is where the locals eat...and for five of us...to dine the bill came to $58!!....Thought there maybe a mistake. NO mistake, great food, great service, great price!...SO GO!!!

Its a 24 hour diner.

By Sturgismathgod |

Normal diner fair which is done well. For under $20, I had burger, fries, and a salad. Service was great. Great location for any profession driver who is planning on parking in Canal street.

Great Food Low Price!!!

By Tzeigler |

The food is always good. The service is usually really good. My favorite dish is the meatloaf veggies and potatoes. For a stater I usually take the cream of chicken soup with rice. I love this place. They have great art on the wall. One of the best spots in Chicago.

Breakfast on a Budget

By DanOCan |

Four of us stopped here for breakfast before heading out of the city on a road trip. We were pleased that, despite being a Saturday morning, things weren't too busy and we were able to find a booth without having to wait. The service was fast and attentive. The food arrived quickly and was wonderfully prepared and exactly as ordered. It was a good hearty breakfast and the prices were very good. I consider this one of the best values of my week-long visit to Chicagoland. When you add in the history of the place and the retro styling (which is right up our alley) it was a very memorable and pleasant breakfast experience.

Late night dinner before early morning flight

By littletomato19 |

Easy to find but hard to find parking. We were lucky to find a spot right out front. VERY busy place. Great food. Friendly waitress. Hit the spot before we flew out. We both had breakfast and it was great. The waitress even found a way for me to get what I wanted a little cheaper then off the menu. YEAH! Definitely worth the stop if you're in the area.

Great experience!

By Mark F |

We chose this place because of its close proximity to our downtown hotel, and did we ever luck out! The staff was amazing, friendly and very courteous, but that food though, it's legit! There's a reason it was on Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. We ate breakfast and were very impressed. Everything was excellent, even the coffee. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in Chicago.

You Get What You Pay For

By JacksBee |

I know this is a casual diner and "greasy spoon," but I was a little disappointed. I ordered a "deluxe" bacon grilled cheese, and when I got it (I had it delivered) it looked like they slapped on two cheese slices you get at the store and barely toasted it. I also ordered a milkshake, which was fine. Maybe some things are better than others?

This place is great

By yankee79 |

Every time I come back home to Chicago this is one of the places I go. There really isn't anything special about their menu, it's a typical 24 hour diner but they do have some good food there. I was in Chicago in February 2012 and had attended a Blackhawks game at the United Center, my dad had went up to Evanston to attend a Michigan-Northwestern basketball game with a friend of his. I got back well before him and his friend did and waited for him to come back, when he finally got back we were both hungry and White Palace Grill was about a half mile walk one way so we decided to walk the half mile to Roosevelt and Canal. This was the first time I had taken my dad to WPG as I had ate there plenty of times before that. I guess I like the diversity of the menu and the fact that they are open 24 hours.

Great Breakfast

By bbbradk |

Great diner We passed this place in a cab, and I made note of where it was so that we could get back to it. Breakfast there was great, I had some sort of Mexican skillet, it had hash browns mixed with sausage topped with 2 eggs, it was very good. Service was quick and friendly, I liked this place a lot. I will definitely be back when I am back in Chicago. The only bad thing I'd say about this place, is it's not right downtown, so getting there can be tough.

Good diner

By Arek S |

This has been my go to diner for years. I typically get a burger but this time around decided on a Rueben sandwich deluxe. Deluxe sandwich comes with fries and soup. All for under $20

Classic diner

By Mark H |

Located about 1.5 miles west of the Chicago lakefront on the corner of Canal St. & Roosevelt Road is this diner that is has been featured in many stories (print, broadcast @ online. There are mural of famous figures in the city's history. I could figure out who some of them were. The menu is large and varied and breakfast offerings ares served 27/7. There is street parking and we had no problem finding a spot at 10 a.m. on a Thursday. I had a Denver omelette and my companion had a two-egg special, bacon, eggs and English muffin. Speaking metaphorically breakfast was delivered in the blink if an eye.

Fun Chicago Diner with great pancakes

By Elle C |

This is a fun little old school Chicago diner with great pancakes and is very cheap. On Monday's and Tuesdays (and one other day), kids eat free. I like the old 50s feel inside the place with the cute counter top bar area where you can sit if you're alone or the booths if you're with others. You're not going to get gourmet here and the fruit on the waffles will be the canned stuff, but hey, it's got a nice feel to the place. The omlettes are good as is the coffee.

Food Savior

By marinexbiologist |

I rarely give out five star reviews but this place was so good that my friends and I ended up coming here for most of our meals (breakfast, dinner, and late night meal). There is convenient street parking near the building. The place may seem a little sketch because of the homeless people that are around but we never had any problems with anyone bothering us. They were there to enjoy a hot meal, just like us. The food here was delicious and so affordable. We always left here completely stuffed. I will always come back to this place if and when I'm in Chicago again.

Bus drivers will love this neighborhood restaurant!

By Tom H |

Every motor coach or school bus driver who has visited Chicago knows there is very limited on-street parking for buses. The White Palace Grill is within walking distance of one of those few parking areas. I have visited about a dozen times, mostly eating breakfast, but sandwiches and specials are very good as well. I have never been here when the place is not full, but have never had a long wait to be seated and, if you offer to share a table with others, you will have new friends when you leave.

Dinner and a Show

By Melissa A |

not for the faint of heart but was AWESOME!!!! My waitress was on the ball even though she was slammed and the food was great. The cast of characters that are there at odd hours of the AM were brilliant.

It was just ok for breakfast

By Diane C |

I had seen this place featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives on the Food Network so I had really high hopes for an amazing experience. I always try to hit up places that have been featured. We came for breakfast during a recent trip to Chicago. The atmosphere is nice, very retro. Our server was friendly and quick so an A+ for that but the food was just your average breakfast food that I can get at any IHOP or Waffle House. I had a Ham and Cheese Omelet with a side of Hashbrowns and toast and my husband had the French Toast with a side of bacon. He was not super impressed with his French Toast, it looked pretty sad on the plate. My omelet and hashbrowns were ok but nothing special. I really wanted to love it but I didn't...sorry. I fear that once a place is featured on a show for being awesome or unique that some of the magic gets lost for some places.

A fun stop on the DDD tour

By kawayne41 |

This diner was featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. The menu was typical of any diner and was served up quickly with friendly waitstaff. Reuben was tasty, as was the biscuits and gravy.

If a diner can't make a good Ruben should they really be in business?

By Charles F |

Having Friday afternoon off it was time to visit the White Palace Grill. I love diners so I was not too worried I would find something I liked. While the place was not busy when I went there at about 2 pm, that was not a surprise. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I had a Ruben and a cup of clam chowder. Th chowder was ok, a bit of pepper helped. The Ruben was huge and really good. I usually judge places like this on their ability to make a good Ruben. I figure if you can't make a Ruben then you might as well just give up. The Ruben at the White Palace Grill was the best I have had in a long time, it was served open-faced because it is frankly too big to fold together. I barely was able to eat the entire sandwich and had to leave about half of the fries (I did not have dinner that evening). The sandwich was hot, delish and the dressing was served on the side which is both practical and very welcome! I can assure you I will be back, I do not live far from this place, and I am kicking myself for not visiting sooner. Did I mention our server was terrific, she was!! :)

great food - great service worth the wait

great food - great service worth the wait

Fun Diner!

By Marianne P |

Place was featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives! Has been around since 1939. Large menu with lots of different selections. Feels more like you are dining with family. Food is very good and the wait staff are attentive. Owner greets you as you walk in. Location is open 24/7. Probably very busy once the bars close!

Great food, a lot of it, and fun!

By alienpilot |

This diner was featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. We ate lunch here, and it was crowded (good sign). Wait staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was excellent and a lot of it. The ruben sandwich (see photo) was humungous and ohhhhhh so good!!! The French dip was so flavorful and I would recommend their soup of the day, especially during the winter time. Cool place. Loved it!

Great diner food

By Kelly Cathcart |

This place is very good. The staff was very nice. It is a typical 1950's diner. The burger and fries were very good. I was in and out quick enough for workday lunch, which is very important. My only complaint is the parking in this whole area is terrible, but it is worth the effort. I will be back again!

This place is a South Loop institution

By Ron S |

What a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Great skillets with a number of options. We had spicy, chicken and Hobo. They come with eggs your choice, toast or pancakes. Service was delightful, too. Portions are generous and a great value for the money. Can't wait to return for the Greek Chicken!!

It's Okay-Maybe I'm Not A Big Diner Fan

By Diamond_Debutante |

My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Chicago and were looking for someplace for lunch. Being a fan of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, I chose the White Palace Grill. I hadn't seen the episode so I wasn't sure what their "specialties" were. I order the chicken finger dinner and my new husband ordered an omelette. The omelette was huge and delicious. The chicken fingers were good, not amazing, but came with a lot of food. The server was okay but not overly friendly, as I would have expected an old-school diner to be. I have no doubt in my mind the food at this 24/7 diner would have been out-of-this-world after the bars close and everybody is hungry. :)

Retro

By CaseyJones6325 |

This is a nice retro diner in Chicago and features a great atmosphere. The food was disappointingly average though. However everyone should go here at least once! Service was pretty good as well.

Great Experience !!

By bryan9661 |

We went for Sunday morning breakfast and were very pleased. We will become regulars here soon. I had french toast and GF had the 2x2x2x2. We sat at the bar and had a great time visiting with the staff and other customers/ The food was great, the hot chocolate was amazing, the service was great and overall we loved our time here, We will definitely be eating here moreoften, especially since they are open 24 hours !!

Another Triple-D spot checked off our list.

By drlooper |

We came here based on the TV Show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and weren't disappointed. Arrived late morning on a Saturday and had to wait a little while for a table. Our server was quick and attentive, our food arrived in just a few minutes just as we had ordered. It's a Diner, but a good one. If you're in the area and a fan of D, D & D's give them a try. We did and liked it.

Quick and Classic

By cooperspeople |

Delicious, fluffy pancakes. My daughters both had the pancakes for breakfast: Mickey Mouse shaped for the youngest, and chocolate chip for the oldest. These were the fluffiest, most delicious pancakes that I have ever seen and tasted! My husband and I both had basic eggs, hashbrowns, toast, & bacon, but it was served quickly and perfectly.

Great breakfast

Such good food, really relaxed atmosphere definitely going back. We had a mixture of the pancakes and their skillets. Didn't need to eat lunch as it came with a side of pancakes. Great staff really hot on the free refills!

This is the best place to eat at am after a long night out. It gets pretty busy around that time, but wait times are short. It is your typical greasy diner food but it is delicious. The breakfast menu is large and you can order anytime of day. The staff are friendly and your orders come out pretty fast.

Great atmosphere, great food

I was zipping past on my way to a bus stop and came across this great little diner. It was too tempting to pass by, so I popped in and asked if it took long to get food. "Have a seat at the counter and we'll take care of you!" was the reply, and sure enough I had a delicious chicken wrap, piping hot fries and a perfectly- mixed coke in front of me within minutes. The staff was cheerful and quick, the manager seemed to know half of the clients personally, and the decor was perfectly vintage. I would go back in an instant.

Historic Wonderful Diner Great Price

I ordered the Club and with the sandwich came fries and a cup of soup. Take the time to read the walls. But, back to the food. A fine delicious club, piping hot chicken noodle soup, and copious amounts of Lipton Iced Tea. The Greek American owner is right there on the floor. My meal came out unexpectedly fast. This is a great diner. Oh and go around the corner and watch the trains coming and going.
