A taste of the Tibetan heights

By Judd L |

What a wonderful restaurant! As a vegetarian and vegan family, we especially enjoyed the vegan dumplings and the eggplant. What we especially love about White Yak is that in addition to regular vegetable entrées, they also prepare meat entrées with vegetarian substitutes like vegan chicken and vegan beef. Everyone is very friendly on the phone and at pickup in person. The sauces are rich and portions are well-sized for our family of four.

Good Tibetan restaurant, would return

By Laura W |

Excellent restaurant. My daughter (21 years old) and I loved it. Her soup with homemade noodles was so delicious and full of flavor. Really one of the best noodle soups we can remember. I had tofu with bok choy, which was tasty (but wish there was more bok choy, there were only a few strands). It is authentic Tibetan food, done well and the staff is excellent. The owner came around to say hello to the guests and make sure everyone was happy, which was a nice gesture. We would not hesitate to return and try some of the other dishes on the menu.

Something different in Asian food

We did take-out and ordered a variety of food. The eggplant and chili chicken were very spicy. the chicken lo mein and chicken curry were quite mild. we also had dumplings and sausage and lentil soup. All tasty and well prepared. Tibetan food feels like a cross between Chinese and Indian. They do have table service and a lovely staff,

A BYOB that charges to BYOB

By Buggy baby |

Love the food here but don't understand why they have a 5.00 charge to BYOB when they are a BYOB. When asked for an explanation, the owner said "Other restaurants do this and plus we serve drinks." When asked what kind of alcoholic drinks were served she said "None but we have soda and juice". She also stated the charge covered uncorking the bottle, bringing over glasses and taking them away. My bottle was a screw top . I told her that other restaurants tack on a cork fee when they serve alcohol but allow you to bring your own. Charging me to uncork my bottle at a byob is like charging me to bring a towel to the pool when the pool doesn't have towels and tells you that you can bring your own. I understand restaurants are hurting and need to make up money but charge me more for the delicious food; which I would gladly pay. P.S. they don't charge you to bring your own beer or hard cider

Delicious Tibetan food! The dumplings are superb!

We read a review about the White Yak online and had to try it out right away, since we never had Tibetan food before. We also love dumplings, so we were curious how their version of dumplings taste like. It was delicious! We decided on the Momo fried pan platter and it was delicious. You get to try the pork, chicken and vegetable dumplings. The spicy pork belly with leeks dish was tastful and had a kick to it. Great food, friendly atmosphere. Also love it that they had a shrine of the Dalai Lama in the restaurant.

Love this new Tibetan byob in roxborough

What a great addition to the neighborhood. The dumplings were delicious and we ordered various vegetable and chicken dishes. Eggplant dish too stood out as amazing! Service was good. I am glad to see that business seems to be booming.

Wonderful Food!

I picked out this restaurant to go to before our trip to Philly and wasn't disappointed. The food was delicious. One doesn't find Tibetan restaurants in our home town! We were there for lunch on a weekday and there were very few diners. They seemed to be doing a steady take out business tho. Spouse had the Phaktsee, a famous dish of southeast Tibet consisting of pork bacon stir fried with green garlic and cilantro. I had the Chicken momos, a traditional Tibetan steamed dumpling and the Lentil soup, a very nice delicately spiced soup. All of it was just so good. Our server was pleasant and helpful. Parking is as you find it on the street.

Nice!

If you want a quiet meal, go early. And it’s BYOB. The shatrak and the garlic beans were both excellent. Satays were good, but on the small side. The butter tea is unlike anything we’ve ever had. Excellent service. When we arrived about 5:30, there were only two other parties. It was lovely and quiet. By the time we left an hour later, most tables were full and the noise level precluded easy conversation.

Wonderful Place

This is a new place in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia. Tibetan food with a twist. Some of the food in spicy but ask the server and they will make it less spicy. The place is beautifully decorated and the staff is very friendly. Love going to this restaurant and I highly recommend it!
