Foodie heaven

By Gaffri J |

Living in Copenhagen I'm used to organic groceries and gourmet food. We have it in almost major supermarkets, but the variety can be somewhat boring. I love the concept of the US whole food markets, and the one in Soma is lovely. I found myself wandering around looking at all sorts of foods (a lot with Kale) Rhe staff is friendly and I had a chat with the guys at the fruit area. The tangerines are amazing, especially the Sumo variety.. They also have hot food and a small cafe with microbrewery beer from the us. I was too tired after a conference to dine, ao i just grabbed some minestrone and beer and watched the Oscar's on the their wide screen in the cafe.. Some of the lovely stuff includes : -All Kale especially Kale chips - hazelnut and almond butter and all nuts.. - kefir and kombucha drinks -Granolas -local honey (been looking for online US companiedw that ship California Honey to Denmark , but with no luck) -fruit - quality coffee beans (missing roasting date on the packages) Though i think the selection of fresh fruit juices not from concentrates or with added sugar is somewhat lackluster compared to supermarkets in Denmark..

Uber Whole Foods Market

I've been to a lot of Whole Foods Markets but there is really something phrenic and special about this one. First of all I found a bottle of Sea Smoke Pinot Noir. enough said... Great breads - so many choices. Great selection of cheese. If you don't feel like dining out just grab a little of this and that, a good bottle of wine and picnic in your room!

Such a great experience

This is the nicest concept! Enjoyed just being inside this store so much. Everything is free of all nasty stuff, mostly organic and eco friendly and fruit and vegetables looks fresh and delicious. Could walk around in there for hours - highly recommend! Price is equal to the quality.

Affordable Fresh Salad

By Backpacker1019 |

We always go to Whole Foods if we want an easy salad and make you choose what you want to go with it.. For 8.99/lb, or exceeding, it's all worth it..Their Hot Food is very fresh, and delicious...

Big whole foods

By Akshat N |

This location is pretty big and has almost everything that I need. Staff is very friendly. They have a bar attached as well.

Yum

This is one of the best Whole Foods that I have visited. The service and the whole store was great. For that they have prepared was very tasty. Great place to stop by if your in the Soma districts.

Eat healthy and tasty

By Dikla D |

This is a supermarkets chain of health and organic food and products. This supermarket had a very large selection. We got there because we wanted to eat healthy food. And not only is their healthy food, but also really tasty, fresh and there is a very large selection. There is self-service by which you choose a box size and make your dish alone. At the end weigh and pay by weight. It was very tasty and rich. It is highly recommended!

Good place to have breakfast on the way to the office

By Radu C |

A very good place to have a quick bite on the way to the office. Whether you are a vegetarian, or a carnivore like me, there's a nice selection of food to choose from.

Expensive, over-priced, over-rated!

By Al J |

Cupcakes were terribly bland--only yhe topping was somewhat good--more "exotic or flashy" than good. The regular protein bars and natural (not organic) cips are all there as is 90% lean beef--Laura's at Kroger is better!

Extremely Expensive

By Thomas V |

It's hard to imagine a market more expensive than this. $23 for 2 chicken breasts. I know they have been prepared, but there are lots of markets around with prepared foods (some better) with lower prices. Uniformly expensive store.

Good Selection and Healthy Option

By Matt |

It's always nice to have a Whole Foods nearby that provides meals and in this case the meal was pizza and burritos. Good Price! Good Food!

Wonderful grocery store in the heart of San Francisco

By Debbie S |

We did a lot of shopping at this store preparing 4-5 meals from ingredients purchased. Beautiful fresh produce, delicious side salads and side dishes, wonderful cheeses and a good wine selection. Prepared pizzas, olives, flowers.

Wide selection, poor quality

By pcg123 |

I was expecting the whole foods quality to carry over to salad and hot food bars but it did not. It was passable for lunch but expensive for what you get. Food was tasteless and old... Wilted and soggy Caesar greens. Also the selection was funky but not really good.

It has a bar! How cool is that

By John |

And actually quite decent bar with a good selection of ales......give it a try - better than shopping - which is great by the way

Great in quality, price and quantity sandwitch on site

By kell28 |

For $5 a very good made on site as you watch sandwich. For SF downtown (just a block or so from the convention center and major line hotels) it is amazingly inexpensive. Buy food for the hotel room frig. or to take to AT&T ballpark to see a game as we did.

You'll find it here

By birdie57 |

I think most people know that Whole Foods is expensive. If you don't, let me tell you to bring your wallet. That's why I gave it a "4", because of the prices. But when sticker shock wears off, you are going to have a great experience. Anything and everything can be found here. Prepared hot foods, cold foods, a great seafood counter, and meat counter. Bulk nuts and candy, huge dairy section, great hot and cold salad, produce section, and oh, so many sections flood this store! Whole foods has items for vegans and vegetarians -- many items that are hard to find elsewhere. The prepared chickens are delicious, as everything I have tried, as is the wonderful olive bar. The quality is excellent, store clean, and it's fun to walk around. I recommend Whole Foods unconditionally!!!

Whole Pay Check

By Thomas V |

Good place to pick up some food for lunch, although the selection does get old. They have a small space where you can sit and eat.

Good option for meals if at Moscone - a short walk

By GPToak |

If you want to really know what you're eating and select what you want, the salad bar and other takeout food options are very good at this Whole Food. Even the Sushi is pretty good for being a store (it's made fresh by the team there). The long lines during lunch move fast. There's some table seating, but if you walk around the back through the alley and cross over the street and walk a block you can go sit in a community garden and eat. Quite pleasant for being in the city!

Always a good selection

By PrsTrainer |

I wish more places had a variety of gluten and dairy free foods. Whole Foods never disappoints, except for price I guess.

Whole Pay Check

By Thomas V |

Lots of office workers in the are, including me, stop by for lunch items and take them away or eat in the little cafe area. Food is OK, although the sandwiches could be more substantial. And prices? Place lives up to it's nickname, Whole Pay Check.

Love their sandwiches

By Ms. M |

Wow, do these people love the lunch buffet!? I've only been to one Whole Foods back home and the crowd wasn't there at the time. At this location, the try were almost depleted with no signs of replenishing. The line went as far as the buffet bar itself but moved quite quickly. I had a sandwich brought to me from the buffet bar a few days ago and found it to be very good. This time ordering on site, the sauce on the sandwich wasn't evenly dispersed which was a major let down for both my boyfriend and I as we ordered on the go. The sushi boxes looked pretty good but seemed quite expensive as small boxes were $9 and small condiment packs. It was nice to see a parking deck available for shoppers. Next time, I'll try something from the buffet although I'm not impressed by food in a BOX.

I had heard big things about Whole Foods and have since been to a better one than this, but here I found the food selection to be a little meh and taste wise I felt let down. Maybe there are larger whole foods in San Fran.

Such variety

By Wilsonvic |

Supermarket where you can make up your own salads or meals from the selection of foods. Healthy, reasonably priced place.

Not much of a selection at the salad bar

By flehrer |

I went to Whole Foods at 6pm and was disappointed that there was no lettuce at the salad bar. I was told that it was too late to restock. What was there - both hot and cold- was very good. The macaroni and cheese was especially good. I also had a piece of pizza that was fresh and tasty. Oher people in my group had sandwiches made to order that they enjoyed.

Great sandwich

By Ray R |

I stopped at Whole Foods for a quick lunch. The sandwich was delicious and had plenty of meat and toppings. I plan to stop here again on this and future trips. There is a hot food section that I've yet to try.

I Think I am Tired of this Grocery Store

By Thomas V |

I've often said that they have good prepared foods, but tonight's dinner was not so good, and of course, it was not cheap from Whole Pay Check. I think I am just over this whole chain.

Excellent comprehensive

By KazSydAustralia |

A simply great holistic food facility experience.....fresh fruit, vegetables, organic, nuts, wine.. you name it, they have it. Including a very wide range of cooked food that one can eat in or take away. No shortage of choices. Very impressive. Prices very moderate. Have tried it twice and look forward to it when the opportunity presents. Highly recommended to anyone, be it one with a home cooking facility or not. Try it and you will not be disappointed.

Eat cheap vegi great things to choose

By kcharalampos |

Here you eat like home made food ,everybody asks how to serve you in a better way and the prices are very good.it has tables to eat on the spot and microwave oven.

Reliable

By ChicagoMedicineMan |

Went here knowing it's expensive but it worked out well. As it is a grocery store with ready to eat hot and cold food and a large selection, it is very good for lunch or dinner. I chose fresh citrus, several hot items, and several cold cooked vegetables. Careful not to get too much weight as that effects price and adding a pretzel, it was a great lunch for under $15. There were tables so I could relax indoors while eating it. Can't give it a 5 since it is pricey but understand why others do.

Tiny Whole Foods

By Katie N |

Not my favorite whole foods for having tight aisles packed full of food where you're always squeezing past other customers. It reminds me of the Columbus Circle Whole Foods in NYC-must be the urban style Whole Foods versus the SoCal suburban model. Don't like how the lines form for checkout- they somehow merge so people weirdly cut. Otherwise this place is great for coffee (Blue Bottle Coffee served!) and it sells amazing local chocolate!

Good Produce, seafood and meats

By belomiser |

if you are into organic and don't have time to go to a famer's market for produce, Whole foods is great. It is not cheap

Love deli items and fresh salad bar

By FortunateTraveler99 |

You can depend on Whole Foods' deli items and big salad bar to satisfy! Quality of food and fast, friendly service made a quick lunch into a very happy experience!

i could live here forever

By celinhovidal |

everything at whole foods looks like made with love for costumers. if you are at a rented apartment, don't think twice. go there and make your life easier. you can also have breakfast an lunch there

Convenient and healthy, yet pricey

By Rhodes |

Of our 4 days in the city we came here 3 of them. Our hotel was just 2 blocks away, so we bought dinners and snacks to save money from going to restaurants. Of course, if you bought enough certain items it would cost just as much as eating out. It's definitely pricey on alot of things. The employees on the floor were kinda standoffish and bland, but the cashiers were mostly friendly. When you're close by and need the basics, this works. The store itself was always clean and though not as big as some WF establishments, it was set up nicely.

This is One Fabulous Market

By tahoerabbit |

I can't say enough good things about Whole Foods Market. I've shopped at maybe 6 different locations and they're all great. Their products are excellent and I especially like their hot and cold fresh food bar. Their baked goods are to die for. Their staff are friendly and helpful. I've never had a bad experience in a Whole Foods Market. I shop there often and would recommend them very highly. In my book, they're the best grocery chain out there, bar none. I hope they are in business forever and by the looks of the business they get, they will be.

Nice

By Royax |

Have passed by this market and to my surprise, it has buffet food for lunch. You just have to take the food and have it weighed in the cashier. It's a cheaper way to grab something to eat. The warm food are good. I like this place.

Great place to buy fresh and organic food

By Daniela W |

There are many Whole Foods Markets around the US. I've to some and they are all amazing. Quality and incredible variety. They have also some great food ready to eat.

For some reasons, not a good experience in San Francisco.

By dapper777 |

We like and love Whole Foods Markets and it is one of the things that we first check out when traveling. We lived not far from this market on the 4th street for a week! We were very excited. We went there the first day and it looked like the same brand markets in other American cities, in London... Wonderful. The food is extremely fresh and flavorful. They have a salad and juice bar, hot food bar, the meats and breads.. Everything is of excellent quality. You choose and take your food, pay and sit and eat your food. The only drawback in this branch is the very limited seating/dining area. It is kind of messy, rough and dirty. Ordinary and unattractive tables, very few chairs which it is almost impossible to find. Yes, it is super busy, but strange, lazy people seated there had nothing to do with the market food: they simply take tables and chairs for hours, like in a Starbucks coffee shop or a lounge and keep playing lazily and uninterruptedly with their two or three cell phones. They see you trying hard to find a little space, a chair, carrying your food in your hands but they completely ignore you. We decided to take our food to the hotel, but when we opened the box, it was very cold, it was not edible. Our impression, the first time, was not positive and so was the second and the third. We stopped going there: the show in front of our eyes was always the same, deeply depressing and disapponting. Not a good experience at all, and we are really sorry for San Francisco.

Awesome store with the best employee at the cheese counter!

By M T |

Whole Foods is great. It is more expensive than your average grocery store but that's no secret. The fruits and veggies are always fresh and when I'm looking for something very specific there is always a high chance that Whole Foods will have it. The reason why I'm writing this review though is because I want to call out the lady behind the cheese counter. She is the most amazing employee I've ever met working in a grocery store. She's not only very knowledgeable when it comes to cheese but her personality is so cheerful and friendly that she would be reason enough to go to that store. You can totally tell that she enjoys working there and helping customers finding the right cheese for the right occasion. So next time when you feel like cheese, visit Whole Foods on 4th! :)

Great vibe

Enjoyed the paleo bar

By Albedonis |

Great variety in the salad bar. I can especially recommend the beef stees in the paleo section of the salad bar. Fantastic taste. Plan your meal though, it is 9 USD per lbs.

Good range of take out raw vege salads

By Isolde |

I've heard some not so nice things about the Whole Foods chain. Like that they buy out smaller players, that they monopolise suppliers, that they overcharge on goods - because they have a monopoly. Not nice. Somehow even harder to stomach when it's to do with healthy foods / lifestyle. But still as far as being a visitor is concerned, if no one else is going to supply these things, what option do we have? As we are tourists staying in a hotel, we've been keen to get our fix of fresh raw vegetables, and that is something Whole Foods does well. So I recommend their salad bar, it has raw, it has cooked, it has beans, seeds, lentils, chickpeas, quinoa, you name it. It even sells meat which did surprise me. Our equivalent back home won't sell any animal products except cheese and eggs. So I was rather shocked to see hunks of cooked animal here. They have a range of dressings too. A vast range of drinks. A vast range of everything. Some of it seems to be organic but not all of it is, so don't be fooled. At the checkout you are charged by weight, so don't go too crazy if you are on a budget. Our total for two salads and two cold drinks came to about $30 - ish. It's open from 8am to 10pm every day.

chipotle

Just had Mexican Burrito from WholeFood market. It was very good. I had chicken with everything except beans for $8.50. The bread is a bit chewy which is very tasty. The spices are just the right amount, brown rice, cilantro, chicken chunks, tomato, white onion and the whole thing weights more than one pound (i think). I came from the east coast. We don't have burrito stations inside WholeFoods.

Come on now...$4 for 1 orange? What is this?

Great salad bar!

By Christina D |

I always love going to WF when I am on the road for work to get food from the salad bar/hot bar. It is a healthy and quick option when I don't have much time to go out to eat.

WOW!!! Great sandwiches and Awesome WINE SELECTION!!!

By Phantastic4u |

Stopped by here to pick up some wine and found some excellent wines including Hitching Post Hometown Pinot Noir for a reasonable price of $19.99. After grabbing the wine, I spotted some sandwiches and decided to get one! It was a positive experience.

Superb Choices

By callen1988 |

I was at the Moscone Center for an exhibition and paid a visit here each morning to stock up. I used the breakfast and lunch bars. Great selection of hot foods that changed daily as well as the staple salad options. good choice of drinks as well.

Pure wholesome food, everything you need if you want to eat healthy - prices are reasonable, and you can serve yourself, this place is a must
