A great new addition to the Gayborhood. Winkel is decorated in Delft tiles and solid blue walls. The restaurant is light and airy with a wall of windows that face Locust Street. Chef Joncarl Lachman greeted us at the door and we were seated for lunch without a wait. The table next to us was enjoying salmon dishes but we were told that the house smoked salmon was no longer available that day. After we expressed our disappointment The Chef brought over a small bit of leftover salmon with some homemade pickles. It was amazing. We all settled for the Winkel Tosti which is grilled , thick sliced ham , Gouda cheese and pineapple on a black bread panini with whole grain mustard. It was excellent. I highly recommend this new breakfast/lunch spot.

This was a great brunch spot! It was BYOB which made the bill way cheaper than expected. The food was delicious - the french toast special was the best I have ever had! :)

My wife and I had a phenomenal breakfast at Winkel this past 4th of July. This restaurant has some of the most creative and delicious breakfast dishes I have ever tried. To start we split a Housemade Cranberry/Milk Bread. This freshly baked bread was warm and heavenly soft with sweet cranberries baked in the bread. The bread was paired with a rich blackberry jam. For my main course I had the Rabbit, White Bean, Chive Frittata. This frittata was amazing! Fluffy airy eggs were filled with soft white beans and tender shredded rabbit and topped with creamy sour cream. The flavors were perfectly complimentary. Overall, this hidden gem is a must visit.

Enjoyed a wonderful brunch with the girls and would highly recommend this restaurant. The service and food was excellent!

The food is good, the service is good, the prices are reasonable. It has a neat "vibe". Not really for little kids because you always have a waiting line (no reservations) and it gets LOUD. Adults? I'd go back regularly, and you will too

Definitely my new favorite brunch spot and the prix-fixe weekend brunch is such a great deal! You definitely won't leave hungry or disappointed. There's something for every kind of diner, whether you're more adventurous (the rabbit frittata) or more traditional. I had the Dutch shrimp and grits and it was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend's dad doesn't even like grits and he absolutely loved these. My boyfriend got the Parker House roll sandwich and said the brown sugar bacon had just the right amount of sweetness and that it wasn't overpowering. His parents got the special 4 cheese omelet and the smoked sausage, red cabbage, and gouda omelet--they both loved them. Definitely check out this charming new restaurant!

We came by Winkle while enjoying the lovely Philadelphia Pride celebration. What a wonderful treat. Our server was excellent, friendly, and welcoming. The meal consisted of (1) chicken & waffles, (2) breakfast sandwich with bacon, and (3) fish sandwich. We were all very pleased with our dishes. The fish was so lightly battered that it was not greasy! The fish and breakfast sandwich are served with potato hash and the seasoning on the potatoes was excellent. I had the Pride mocktail and it was flavorful. 10/10 would recommend this restaurant if you are in the gayborhood- or want to try something new in Center City. Thank you for an excellent Pride brunch.

Such a lovely spot in a wonderful walking neighborhood. The staff was beyond pleasant and the food was wonderful.

I visited Philadelphia recently and stopped in to Winkel for breakfast. The menu had so many interesting choices, but I finally decided on the deep fried strawberry almond French toast. It was as delicious as it sounds! The wait staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant's decor is welcoming.

I went here this morning before going to work at the hospital that is right around the corner and what a lovely atmosphere to start my day. My waiter was the nicest sweetest man in the entire world (I did not get his name but everybody was super kind). He recommended the Sweet Potato hash and it was amazing. Enough food to feed a small village I got my eggs scrambled instead of fried and it was amaze. Bottomless coffee and they even put my food into a cool to go container (I know its the simple things though) and I could throw it in my bookbag and just finished it for lunch. Super clutch!! Def worth a visit for breakfast or lunch or brunch lol!!!

Very nice brunch for us! Had the Salmon Benedict which was excellent. Delish side potatoes as well. Friendly service. I would recommend!

Really friendly and welcoming. Good prices and loved the food. Will definitely come back if we return to Philidelphia.

So glad we stumbled on this brunch spot - it was so, so good. We waited about 30 minutes for a table, but it was well worth it and they had cold water to drink while you wait. My husband had the rabbit frittata, that was delicious and the crab cake Benedict were out of this world. They made chocolate chip pancakes for the kids (not on the menu - just ask). We got there around 12 and it looked even busier when we left. Service was fast, attentive and nice. Highly recommend stopping in for brunch!

What a lovely spot with great location if in center city or historical area. We came here as part of a fun family day in the city on a recommendation from a Philly based friend. Our waiter was so helpful with food recommendations and chilling and popping our bubbly right after being seated. We loved that it was a BYOB and being able to order breakfast or lunch. The crab-cake Benedict rocked as did the omelets and hot chicken sandwich that the others ordered. Service was quick and our waiter checked in often. We were given chocolate covered pretzels after our meal that topped our meal off perfectly. The portion sizes were large in my opinion and could have split the Benedict but that’s just me, Everyone else finished most of their meal. Great atmosphere, I highly recommend a visit if in the area.

We had breakfast here and it was wonderful, from the service to the food. Try the deep fried french toast - it's crispy outside but tender and delicious inside. Kind of reminded me of fried dough. Highly recommend!

I accepted the waitresses recommendation for the red cabbage/sausage omelette and it was as good as she described. The atmosphere was superb and the prices quite reasonable for Philadelphia. Service was fantastic and I can’t wait to return to try other entrees.

Just as Julia Roberts said in the opening scene of My Best Friend's Wedding:I'm calling it inventive... and confident. This unassuming little eatery occupies a space on Locust Street that was once an ice cream shop. And the purveyors of this Dutch-centric restaurant have brought an astonishingly unique menu to this welcoming neighborhood. It fact it was the eclectic menu that convinced me to try this place with my friend Melissa. I ordered what I believe is a signature sandwich--The Winkel Tosti. Roasted ham, melted Gouda, grilled pineapple, sweet butter, side of mustard, on fluffy toasted white bread that reminded me a bit of Texas toast. I'm on a diet that doesn't allow dairy... well, American dairy anyway, so I asked if the chef could substitute the Gouda (cow's milk) with a goat's milk cheese. He cheerfully fulfilled that request. The sandwich was savory and sweet, crunchy and creamy. The sides of roasted potatoes and dressed greens were light and satisfying. If you're in the Theater District (aka the "gayborhood") any day of the week, stop in for lunch. Or, if your cravings need to be satisfied earlier, they serve breakfast as well. They have an enormous--and I mean that literally--selection of omelettes, frittatas, eggs your way, benedicts, pancakes, waffles.... You won't be disappointed.

Had the Bitterballen, wife had the breakfast sandwich, others had the croquette special. Grapefruit juice was nice & fresh. Everything was fantastic and generous portions. Must stop every time we r in Philly.

We stumbled upon Winkel after leaving Constitution Hall with rumbling tummies. It's exactly the kind of food we were looking for, fresh, inventive, filling & delicious. After being in the city for several days and doing all the touristy things we were tired of food covered in Whiz or deep fried and wanted something healthier and more tasty. Nothing we ate here disappointed, from the delicious quick pickles to ice coffee that was the best I've had so far, it was all delicious! I had the 4 Cheese Omelet special with salad & potatoes which was absolutely delicious and my husband had a ham and pineapple sandwich with salad and potatoes as well. This is a gem of place and we would definitely go back regularly if living in Philly. The atmosphere was Dutch it seemed and the staff was all fantastic. They each stepped in to check on us, fill our water, bring a new coffee, etc. No one had their table and hands off to everyone else which I thought was great b/c you never went without being checked on. Friendly staff, beautiful atmosphere and amazing food make this a 5 star eatery to be sure!
