We went here since we wanted to have fish/seafood tonight for dinner. They don't take reservations so we had to wait for about 15 minutes. This isn't a huge restaurant but the service is good and they do turn tables rather quickly! My wife and I both ordered the "Hartford" clam chowder...it's mostly the standard New England clam chowder but they top it off with some of their red Manhattan chowder. When you mix them together in your cup (or bowl) it becomes the Hartford chowder! Needless to say it was very delicious and worth getting! I ordered fish tacos and my wife got the seafood stuffed grilled artichoke-both were delicious as well. The couple next to us finished off their meal with a sourdough bread pudding that looked amazing but were full after our meal.

We choose the Woodhouse Fish Company because we wanted to eat some seafood in a restaurant far from the turistic FishersmanWharf and we found this tiny restaurant in the amazing area of (Lower??) Pacific Haights. We ordered two traditional clam chouder, much more tasty than the ones served at the fishersmanwharf. The two mains were a Cioppino sauce and artichokes filled with prawns and dungerness crab. I have to say that everything was good but maybe we should have tried the lobster roll as well. They served the lobster at the next table and it looked delicious.

The artichoke was the best I have ever had. The shrimp and avocado roll was amazing. I will definitely be back. The lemonade is made fresh at the table. Very impressive.

We discovered this place by accident and it is now our favorite place for a great lunch in the city. It is a small place, but we have always gotten a seat. The best lobster roll or crab sandwich outside of Sam's in Half Moon Bay. It's just the right proportion of fish to bun, the fries are really delicious and the small cup of slaw is perfect. Their daily specials are always fresh and interesting, including the $1 an oyster special. The staff are friendly and attentive without being annoying. The neighborhood is very walkable and full of fun stores. We haven't tried dinner here yet, but that's on our to do list. Meanwhile, we try to hit it for lunch at least once a month. Stellar little neighborhood fish house.

Based on a recommendation from another restaurant owner, we landed at Woodhouse after an afternoon of touring the town. They were busy and the four of us got a spot on a bar area that worked for us. Hands down, this was the BEST CIOPPINO I have ever had. The amount of seafood + crab legs was astounding for the price, and the flavor of the tomato-based broth full and deep, still broth like, but tasted like it had been reducing down all day. Three of the four of us had the Cioppino and all three were wowed. Thanks for a great meals and I'd love that recipe!

We had a very nice lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The Crab Cakes and the Crab Roll are both delicious. The service was friendly and relaxed.

Being a seafood lover from the east coast, I chose this place after reading the positive reviews. I am sorry to admit that I was disappointed. All three of us had ordered a meal which included a fresh crab roll and fries. The crab was a bit over salted and skimpy at nineteen dollars USD. The roll was a toasted hot dog bun accompanied by processed fries. I gave this place an extra star for the clam chowder. The chowder was reasonably priced and tasty. The total price for three cups of chowder and three small crab roll plates equalled $81.00 USD.

Yes, this crab roll was insanely expensive but it was the best I have ever had!!! Other reviews made me want to try it and it didn't disappoint.

This is a nice little casual seafood restaurant with a nautical theme, of course. We were there for lunch. Hubby and I appreciated that the menu was limited to the typical dishes you would expect such as fish & chips, lobster and crab rolls, shrimp louis, etc., and some daily specials. This small menu told us that they are serving the items they are good at instead of trying to please everybody with whatever is popular. I didn't notice any particularly trendy menu items or unusual seasonings, which I liked since I want to taste the seafood, not have it smothered in roasted fennel and cumin or the like. I had a crab roll which consisted merely of delicious, fresh crab cooked in butter and sprinkled with green onions on a very good roll. Perfect with a squeeze of lemon! The fish and chips were surprisingly good. Hubby is always seeking good fish and chips although they are extremely hard to locate on this coast. These had a very crispy batter that was not overly thick or greasy. Not our all time favorites, but still very good for California. Cole slaw was good too, but the stand out of the side dishes was the roasted carrots with dill creme fraiche. So good! Happily, I subbed my fries for these carrots and made the right choice. Never thought the lowly carrot could deliver this way. Service was good, so we'll be back next time we're in the neighborhood.

The concierge at Hotel Drisco sent us to Woodhouse for a light lunch. I had a dozen oysters and my wife had the lobster roll. Hard to mess-up oysters if the are fresh. Interesting difference between a southeastern oyster bar and Woodhouse was the crackers. Woodhouse served none. So I requested crackers and got two little packets of button crackers, rather than the saltines I was craving. It honestly was the first time in my life that I have been served oysters without saltines. My wife thought that the lobster roll was great.

Fried shrimp pork belly po boy, fries and a can of Trout Slayer beer. I'm happy. The large lobster roll was $35, but the consensus vote was thumbs up. The calamari appetizer disappeared quickly among a table of six. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. This place is really busy, so make a reservation and be prepared to wait. There are loads of places to hang out on this street. Woodhouse is a good bet for a good meal.

Just round the corner from where we were staying and recommended by our hosts. Had dinner twice, walking only and can get busy at times. We sampled a few dishes from the menu and never disappointed. Crab cakes, fish and chips, lobster roll, prawn linguine and a taster of clam chowder. All fresh and very tasty. Good value too and nice selection of wine and draft beer.

In search of cioppino, thank goodness we found the North Beach restaurants closed on a Sunday night. Went to Woodhouse on Fillmore and LOVED it! 3 of us tried calimari, oysters, clam chowder, fish and chips, and yes, the fabulous cioppino, a hearty Italian fish stew. All was wonderful.

The food was excellent. Simple menu but if you like a lunch menu with fish/seafood, this is the place. It is also on a street with great shopping - loved the whole area. very good value here - you can take your dog!!

Passing through San Francisco on the way to Napa and wanted a good bowl of New England clam chowder without the crowds at the Pier. Busy neighborhood place with tasty New England clam chowder. Other menu items looked good as well. Friendly service.

My friend found this place on Yelp after we were craving some oysters and had trekked all the way to Swan Oyster Depot, only to find out it was closed on Sundays. So we came in at around 4 pm and the place wasn't too filled up (probably because it was a weird time to eat). We were seated immediately and ordered some oysters, clam chowder, and a lobster roll - all to share. Again, since it was a weird time to be eating and we hadn't had lunch yet, we also didn't want to be too full since we were still planning to have dinner later. The oysters were okay - nothing to write home about. Nothing you can't get for a dollar in NYC. But then again, I can't really tell the difference between most oysters; just that it's saltier and/or plumper. The clam chowder was pretty good. As for the lobster roll, this was again just okay. The cole slaw that it came with had way too much mayo. Overall, I would say that Woodhouse is an okay choice if you're in the area. But if you're willing to travel, I'm sure there are better places in SF.

My sister and I ordered the Ipswich Clams, the choice clam for deep frying, usually sweet and clammy good. I don't really get it, but the clams (full belly fried) had a clam flavor, but the fresh, sweet taste of a well done clam was absent. So also with the soft shell crab BLT special, except that it didn't even taste of crab, just the deep fried batter. The fries were very good.

This restaurant or the one on Market are the best for Fried Cod. It can get very busy during peak hours so plan on waiting or visiting off peak.

Went here because of TA reviews and so glad we did ... best chowder and fish and chips ! Next day had the crab Louie - also great ! And thanks for the nice hospitality Fillmore is a great location - we were looking for something not far from the hospital- someplace you could safely walk to ...

This place looks very small and simple, but don't judge by the size and design. You are on a fisherman's boat and will be served a very fresh a delicious seafood. The catch of the day is announced by the waiter and written on the wall, but you are free to chose anything up to your taste. The selection of seafood options is great. Traditional clam chowder is fantastic, as well as crab cake and artichoke salad. We had a great time there.

My husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner at Woodhouse Fish Co. before a concert at the Filmore. The crab cakes were very good and the wait staff was very attentive. I would highly recommend.

We couldn't wait at swans any longer...oysters were awesome...dungeness off the chain...and the service was amazing...fyi. Try the artichoke...it's great.

Had a wonderful squid as starter, the steamed clams were ok. As main the swordfish was delicious and just perfectly cooked. Side vegatables and salad very fresh, crispy and tasty!

Very good address recommended by a San Francisco resident, original dishes and very good. We had my husband and myself sandwich lobster.

Best meal in San Francisco. We went on Oyster Tuesday on our last nite in town 2 weeks ago..The food and service were superb. The oysters were great and so were the mains...we even ordered dessert..bread and butter pudding..big enough to feed a small family..

With SF back to take out and outdoor seating only, I’m glad so many establishments along Fillmore have prepared for outdoor seating. Woodhouse has half dozen tables along the sidewalk. I was able to snag one about 6:30 on a busy Saturday night on the first weekend of no indoor dining. I was cordially greeted and was able to order right away (so many other places’ service have gone to pot during the pandemic). The crispy cod fish tacos and cup of clam chowder made for both a warm and filling meal on a chilly night. Thank you Woodhouse.

I love this place. So satisfying. Pleasant environment, good service, fast quality food, and quality it is. I’ve never had to wait to get in, although I’m told that on occasion it is the case. I assure it is very much worth the wait. Unassuming decadence awaits.

Fresh! I had a cup of clam chowder and a crab roll, My husband got the lobster roll and the squid ink spaghetti. I believe the pasta is dyed in squid ink. All tasted fresh and flavorful. Our hostess and servers were awesome. The restaurant is small, but clean, and inviting. Decorated to fit the theme of the sea. It’s was a beautiful day, so the natural sunlight shining in gave it a nice vibe. I would recommend and return. Located on Fillmore Street in San Francisco

Shops are located in a quiet area about 20 minutes by local bus from around Union Square. The atmosphere of the city is calm, but it feels very good with some traffic. The main dish was choppino. I don't know the details, but generally it's like bouillabaisse. It was super delicious. It was really good. It's one of three things you want to eat before you die. The staff are friendly and nice. It's not like I'm asking you to tip me if I don't have American. I will definitely go again‼️

Smaller restaurant - but seated right away- full of happy diners- everything looked awesome - we had crab melts -yummy! And shrimp avocado sandwiches - all great!!! Reasonable price $14 each but lots of seafood - comes with good fries and come slaw - highly recommend

We headed there because of the $1 Oysters. Oysters were fresh, served on a tray of ice and with lemon slices. I also ordered lobster roll while the BF ordered fish and chips. We preferred the lobster roll over the fish and chips. This place can get very busy during dinner time. Best to go in pairs; easier to get a table! :) We went in a group of 5 but we ended splitting 3:2, so that we didn't have to wait another 20 mins or so in the cold for a big table.

It may not be a fair review, as we only had the sandwiches (the whole selection, though) and the fish and chips. All these items are quite average, not bad but nothing to scream about either.

We tried the clam chowder and squid ink linguine. Both were wonderful! Our order got mixed up initially. We got the clam chowder on the house for the wait! That was such a nice gesture. Great food and service for affordable prices!

I had the fish tacos on a recent visit that impressed me enough to return last weekend in 102 degree weather with no air conditioning! Avocado & shrimp one of the least expensive items on the menu was also a hit with my wife The real eye opener was not to assume - that in hot weather that you will find air conditioning in your San Francisco restaurant.

My friends and I were on the hunt for seafood on our visit to SF. We read the reviews and decided to check this place out. It's a bit small (like most places in San Francisco) so we had to wait a bit for a table but it was well worth it. We had shrimp cocktail to start. Then 2 of my friends had the artichoke dish with dungeness crab & bay shrimp, one friend had the lobster roll and I had the dungeness crab roll. It was melt in your mouth sweet, buttery and delicious! Even the french fries were good (not greasy, not too thin or large). I had some ranch dressing on the side because I'm one of THOSE people and it was fresh made. I notice little details like that. Everything we ate was really delicious. It wasn't inexpensive but was reasonable for SF prices. Our waitress was friendly as well.

Woodhouse Fish Company makes an honest effort. On the plus side, you can get genuine Ipswich fried clams, no small thing on the west coast. On the other hand, the crab cakes and fish tacos are disappointing. The service is attentive and cheerful.

We had a nice late lunch here while still adjusting to jet lag. Their clam chowder was quite good. The oysters were on point. I got the stuffed artichoke which could have been excellent but the crab was cold, a strikingly different temperature than the artichoke, which threw the whole dish off a little. The bread on the plate with the artichoke was very good and the lemon aioli sauce was yum. My partner got the crab fettuccine and it was just okay. The lemonade and Arnie Palmer drinks are unique and interesting. They bring you out several different carafes and you get to mix to your taste, which was fun. Service was friendly and nice.

I went here on the last day of my vacation. The homemade lemonade was amazing. My crab cakes were very good too. Service was great. Definitely seems like a spot locals go, not just tourists.

Lot and lot of gorgeous dishes, only that 80% are done with vinegar. We, as the antithesis for any form of vinegar, succeeded to manage our way with a clam chowder and a lobster roll. Good and mostly patient service

A ten. Incredible service from the waiters and typical San Francisco food. Unbeatable. We would repeat without hesitation!

This shouldn't necessarily be a qualification for whether I love a restaurant or not, BUT my daughter and I ate here tonight. Arrive early (insider secret) on Tuesday nights for $1/oysters on half shell. We ate 32 oysters, a basket of fries, a beer and a tea - $50 bill. Amazing. Going back next Tuesday. Well done!

Do not dine. Do not dine here. Frozen lobster. NOT FRESH. Awful. Way overpriced. We dined on a Tuesday night. Not crowded. Long wait. Food was not fresh, tasty or delicious.

Very nice establishment. Good fresh fish. Delicious chowder. Very popular restaurant. Get there early to avoid the crowd. They do not take reservations.

I was sightseeing in the area and wanted to grab a tasty bite. Service was good. Clam chowder and the fish tacos were tasty. Prices were fair for San Francisco. I would visit again for a meal.

My go to place for my lobstah roll hankering! Lobstah come fresh from the East Coast and is sweet and succulent! It comes on a split top roll toasted with butter and filled with their lobstah salad, Cole slaw, and thin cut fries. Yummo. The rolls come in small or large. They also have a Dungeness crab roll, crab melt, oyster Po boy, and a clam roll. Fresh oysters on the 1/2 shell name a great starter.

Small but comfortable seafood restaurant located in the Fillmore district among small boutique shops. Great for a Sunday night quick dinner. This is not fine dining but good place to grab a bite. Friendly staff and good service.

This neighborhood place is, as are most restaurants on Fillmore, usually crowded with a line out the door. You can see why as you enjoy the fresh fish featured on the menu. This is one of our favorites in SF. On this trip we enjoyed the delicious fish and chips, the fish tacos and a shared Calamari. I took a picture of the Calamari as a recommendation for others to enjoy while waiting for your main course. Monday and Tuesday usually do not have waiting lines so try for those days.

Sea food oriented restaurant, interesting decor including a video of crabbing operations in the San Francisco area by the owner's family. Pleasant service Basic seating. Oysters were not very tasty (blue points) Mussels and French fries good but the fries were served on top of the mussels and ended up swimming in their broth.

The stuffed artichoke is one of the most delicious meals I have ever had anywhere. It is split and roasted on the outside and is stuffed with bay shrimp on one side and crab on the other. It has garlic aioli and is atop a mixed tasty and generous salad with mixed greens, baby tomatoes, and cooked beets. It also has 2 pieces of tasty garlic bread. It takes awhile to eat this but every finger licking bite is outstanding! No way to eat this in a dainty manner.

I had the lobster roll and crab cakes and didn't go wrong with either one of them. I liked the New England flavor to it all. The place looks great and goes along with the great tasting food.

This place came highly recommended by a fellow oyster lover and indeed you can get oysters for a dollar per oyster on Tuesdays. Didn't try anything else. The place is casual but pleasant and perfect for an oyster treat.

This is a great fish restaurant at reasonable prices. The squid with garlic spinach was excellent and would have it again many times. The fish and chips and the trout were fresh and delicious. Well worth a visit.

Although the atmosphere is slightly lacking, the food more than makes up for the wait for very crowded seating. The fish and chips and calamari were some of the best I've had. They might benefit by being will to separate tables, which they do not do.

Great little place on Fillmore nothing fancy here, just great food great service and great ipa beer if that’s you’re thing. Serving staff are particularly friendly helpful and very good to talk to, mine had great artwork on both arms and probably elsewhere (i didn’t ask) she was great, made my experience perfect ....Thank You. Tip ......Just go

After checking TripAdvisor for nearby restaurants for lunch, we made our way here. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon to find a very busy restaurant. After a short 5 minute wait, we were taken to our table. Service was prompt and friendly. Prices were reasonable and the food was DELICIOUS! The shrimp and avocado roll was so flavorful! My husband had the Dungeness crab roll and loved it. Both were served with crispy, fresh French fries and a small coke slaw. Paired with a nice Rombauer Sauvignon blanc and we were set. Such a great place to grab lunch!

We went to lunch at Woodhouse. The atmosphere was nice and friendly with lots of locals eating there. I ordered the halibut special. It was a disappointment. Not much flavor. My husband ordered the mussel appetizer, a beer and the trout. He enjoyed the mussels but said he'd had better trout elsewhere. Maybe we should have ordered something else like the lobster roll many others were eating. The bill was much higher than other restaurants on our trip that we enjoyed more.

Fancied fish & chips, talked my wife into it. Waitress was nice & courteous, the food was not to our liking, we should have mentioned it to manager but we didn't bother. My wife ordered the crab cakes, I insisted for her to take the order of 3, I had fish & chips. My order came with French fries and coleslaw, my wife crab cakes came with a salad. Let's start with the crab cake, nice size and color, consistency too soft as if not enough crab meat or too much eggs & mayo to the mix, they were tasteless, poor seasoning. 4 out of 10. My fish and chips same story, the batter was soft and soggy, and was peeling apart, as if cooked in lukewarm oil, french fries ok! Coleslaw too much mayonnaise. 4 out of 10. Sorry won't be back

The food was fantastic! The oyster were great/meaty. The lobster roll was awesome and the shrimp pork belly po boy that was on special. The table next to me had a really good looking arnold palmer like i've never seen before. The price was great as well. Good stuff

Apart from the fact that there isn't much room in this little spot there isn't much to complain of and a great deal to praise. Our fish and chips were tasty and plentiful (even the smaller two piece serving). The couple at a neighboring table seemed to be downing a shared plate of oysters in preparation for something more. It's a walk-in spot that doesn't take reservations and has a sister establishment on Market Street. Both serve "New England style seafood." The ambiance is basically just a cut above that of a fast food spot but without the standardized advertising and with young women staffers who do a fine friendly job. On a street that contains plenty of other good dining choices, this [;ace holds its own very well.

We were visiting from Boston, and feeling in the mood for seafood. We are used to very fresh and excellent local seafood back home, and had high expectations. I opted for the crab roll and my husband chose a halibut special. His portion was a bit on the small side, so he did leave a bit hungry. The food was well prepared and fine. It's better than average but just barely over the "very good" line. This location is quite small, like the size of a boutique shop, so seating is cramped and limited. Arrive before the crowds or be prepared to wait. All in our bill was $72 plus tip, so perhaps a bit elevated in price for what you get. Our server could have done better checking on drinks needing refills.

The 3 of us arrived just after 5pm on a Saturday. It was already very busy but we were quickly seated . The squid appetizer was delicious. Crab cakes were quite good. The shrimp Louie salad was good but drenched in dressing. Bummer that our beers were less than full when served. Maybe the staff needs more training on how to pour a beer. Tip: ask for your salad dressing on the side.

we wanted to find affordable authentic seafood.. this place was awesome. service was very good.. the neighborhood is not lively so not much going on here. but the food was worth the drive.

As a seafood and vegetarian only eater, this place has a lot of options. However, my choice of the lobster roll was not the best one. Having been on the Maine lobster roll tour, I think I've tasted some of the freshest and best, and this was not one of them. Our dinner party, however, did like the calamari and fish and chip options. I thought that the chips were mighty pedestrian -- like fast-food fries. So all in all - nice to have so may seafood choices on one menu but from my point-of-view, everything could be prepared and plated with quite a bit more finesse.

My wife and I have been to Woodhouse Fish Company twice and both times had excellent meals. The place is usually crowded and lively but we had very good service. Very friendly and efficient staff. The lobster rolls are as good as you can get in New England. Good value for the level of service and quality (and quantity) of the food.

We were so impressed with the quality of food from this restaurant. Interesting ingredients, wonderfully presented, combined with great staff made our dinner memorable. Liked it so much we went back the following night. Being reasonably priced was a bonus.

I love whole belly Ipswitch clams. It's rare to find them outside of New England, but when I saw them on the menu here, I had to try them. And they did not disappoint! Well fried, with a good light batter, the clams retained the briny essence that makes whole belly clams so delicious. My partner had a Maine style lobster roll which was also excellent. The restaurant is bustling, and attractive in that sea motif sort of way. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in SF.

We went here with family to get a taste of San Fran seafood, specifically we wanted to try Dungeness crab. They have crab cakes, two crab sandwiches, and a crab entree dish. We tried the crab roll sandwich and crab cakes both of which were excellent!

We drop in early at 5pm cause it was crowded when we walked by on other nights. The food is tasty. The price is a little bit on the high side. Just like taking one of the seafood place out of Fisherman Wharf and putting it in Japantown. Worth a visit.

Went here on an impromptu hookup with a friend of mine who happened to be in town for business as well. We both like seafood and found this recommendation on Yelp. So, what two things have I heard I must try while in San Fran? Clam chowder and crab cakes. I ordered the Hartford, a Boston and New England mix. It was good but not great, with big bits of clam. The crab cakes, however, were caky, mushy and an extreme disappointment. On the somewhat bright side, I tasted my friend's crab roll and it was pretty good. But how can you mess that up? Sigh, on to the next one.

A friend recommended this place around the corner from his house. My husband's grilled squid starter had garlic and spinach and was simple but really memorable. I had a superb crab cocktail which was great big chunks of leg meat and plenty of it. Main courses were good and well executed but more ordinary. Nice wait staff and friendly buzzy atmosphere. We will definitely go again.

Our experience at the Woodhouse Fish Company was fantastic. Although we had great dinners at several other places, this restaurant stands out for high-quality food at very reasonable prices in San Francisco. We ordered the Lobster & Squid Ink Linguini ($22) and Stuffed Artichoke with Dungeness Crab and Bay Shrimp ($21). I love squid ink pasta and this dish prepared with generous chunks of lobster in a tomato and cream sauce was excellent. Likewise, the artichoke with crab and shrimp was delicious. And, at those prices in a high-priced area like San Francisco, you just can't beat this restaurant. The staff was very pleasant and the location on Fillmore Street is very convenient. We will definitely return here during out next visit.

Woodhouse I'll start with the bad. I've read about crazy long waits here well we had one. We were told 2-30 min and it took a bit over an hour. The hostess, manager and waiter all apologized. As soon as we sat down both the manager and the waiter told us they were giving us calamari on the house for the wait. Nicely done. To the people at our table before us: gee 15 minutes with the bill in hand is....crazy. Pay and get out! Thr calamari were perfect! Not greasy! Cooked to a nice golden color. Both sauces were good (cocktail and Remoulade) I've been reading reviews of cioppino all over the web and it seems like it's birthplace SF has abandoned this dish. Well I'm happy to report that Woodhouse did the city's signature dish justice. Actually I had high hopes when I walked in because the aroma was heavenly. The soup was a perfect balance of tomato, fish, garlic, peperoncino, and I assume fish stock. It was piled high with clams and muscles, one large shrimp (could ya spare it?), a large cluster of Dungeness crab legs, fish and bay scallops. All the seafood was perfectly cooked. There were a couple of slices of parmesan crusted bread slices - those could be served on their own! My daughter got a whole crab. I read somewhere that at this Resturant a whole crab isn't...well whole. It's legs and claws but no body. Easier to eat I'm sure but there's great meat in the body if you are willing to work and as New Englanders who can get ever bit of meat from a lobster a crab is no match for us. Nevertheless she enjoyed it throughly. My wife and other daughter had the crabs stuffed grilled artichoke. I LOVE artichokes so not getting this was a challenge for me. Both my wife and daughter really enjoyed this dish and I would have been disappointed in not having this except the cioppino was so good. The artichoke is halved and grilled, stuffed with crab meat and siting on a bed of baby green salad. All in all a grat meal dispite the long wait.

It's about time that I contribute a review to Woodhouse Fish Co. I visit San Francisco once every few years and seek out this place every single time. I am obsessed with their lightly battered fish tacos, which pair perfectly with local Anchor Steam beer. I live in Boston and am used to some outstanding seafood - Woodhouse is right up there in quality and does not disappoint. On my most recent visit, my mother ordered the Ciopinno, which I tasted an was incredible! We both stuffed ourselves too full because we could not stop eating the deliciousness on our plates.

I came in here solo just to get a crab roll prior to heading to the movie theater. I chose this place because it is generally highly rated for its seafood and the crab season had begun a few weeks ago in the Bay Area of California. The crab roll was disappointing. It didn't taste "sweet" as fresh Dungeness crab should if fresh (as was advertised). Fortunately I only ordered the smaller portion, though at $19 that seemed a bit much. The roll itself was good, and the same type as is used for lobster rolls in the Northeast. The French fries were slender and crisp, the cole slaw was also good, though was no more than perhaps a double shot glass in size. This place is casual, so you don't expect too much, but at the least, you would like great crab at the beginning of the season. I won't return here, having been under impressed on other visits in the past.

We ate here on two occasions and had a fair spread of the fare on offer, including some of the specials. On our first visit we were able to get Point Reyes oysters at $1 each! Great variety of fish dishes and all cooked to perfection. Very friendly and helpful staff made both visits memorable. I would recommend it if you're in the neighbourhood.

This place has the best fish tacos I've ever had - very fresh fish with a moderate amount of batter (I don't like too much) and perfectly fried. I also tried the fish and chips, which were equally delicious. Would definitely recommend if you're a fan of fish. It's also located on a great street with lots of cute boutiques and other restaurants.

Disappointed with the Lobster roll. Small Sandwich with a high price tag. The whole Dungeness Crab was overcooked. Don't order the Strawberry Short cake. The beer was cold and the service was excellent.

This is a great restaurant, a bit far from center but attended by locals. The ambient is warm, service is gentle and fast. The Cioppino is simply fabolous, rich and cooked to perfection. A delicious bread pudding ended a great dinner, Well done! Note : they do not accept reservation so make sure you are on time for a seat.

This place is definitely not worth all these good reviews. It's OK. The food was not outstanding at all! It was average at most. And it's pricey!! You will not be full here. The portions are way too small for that price tag. The oysters and pork belly po boy was dry, the tacos were ok... The only good thing is the fries! They know how to make deadly fries. Another Meh place.

Best lobster roll ever. The filling was delicious. Nice chucks of lobster with an amazing mayo sauce. Yum! And the bread was superb. It was buttered and toasted in the outside perfectly. I think the bread was a super-star in the dish (and the lobster). Great chips and coleslaw too. I wasn't planning on finishing the chips but they were too yummy not to finish. Highly recommend. I'll definitely go back again. :)

The food is amazing and price are affordable. It's a shame we discovered the place on our last day in SF . I would eat there my every time in SF that is for sure.we ordered specials for that day and a lobster roll and oysters wich were greatest oysters I have eat .

We've been to Woodhouse on Fillmore a number of times & have invariably left with a smile. It's ALWAYS busy (no reservations, so be prepared to wait), but definitely worth it. First, the staff: despite being crazy busy, they are pleasant, helpful, attentive, knowledgeable. Food: terrific. Lobster roll, fish tacos, bouillabaisse, calamari. . .you can't go wrong. Wine is good & not overpriced, bread is replenished whenever you need it. Dessert: try the bread pudding (if you're still hungry, that is.) Another plus is that this is not a touristy place---we're not the only people who live in the neighborhood who dine here, and others seem also to be SF natives. One small drawback: when it's busy, it's hard to have a conversation without shouting! But that's a minor drawback in a place this good.

I had dinner at Woodhouse on Sunday night. My table ordered the New England claim chowder, lobster roll with double meat and the fish and chips. Everything was delicious. The restaurant is small but very cute. Enjoyed our meal and would return.

I always have their small lobster roll when I visit the city and it satisfies my craving for juicy, tender, sweet lobster roll!!! They also sometimes have this strawberry short cake when in season that is to DIE FOR!!! Simple but delicious! Small restaurant and hard to get a table so you sometimes need to wait. Worth the wait though, you will not be disappointed!!! Lots of shops around while you're waiting.

Small spot that was packed, but still able to accommodate me at the bar. Excellent crab and linguini.

This became my bench for clam chowder, fish and chips and lobster rolls. Those were steady and good. I would also try the specials each time. Their jumbo scallops in croquettes was great as well. Their ciopino was to die for! I tried it once and came back three times more. If I had a chance, would go back again!

The food at Woodhouse Fish Company is nothing fancy but that is not to say it is not delicious. Dishes are served in red plastic dishes with grease proof paper rather than posh plates and white table clothes. The food however is great. Anything fishy is obviously going to be good but the fish tacos I had were superb. Two was enough for me but for those with an appetite three would be needed. For relaxed, casual dinning on a weekday evening, this is the perfect place. We had a little difficulty returning an anchor steam which wasn't right the first time, or, unfortunately, the second time, but they fixed it eventually and then took it off the bill / cheque. The food is great, the atmosphere was good and the service was fine too. There was nothing about this restaurant that screamed "5 star ultimate dinner experience". If I was in the area again, I would certainly look to go back but I probably wouldn't be making a special trip across town just to go here.

Everything our group ordered was absolutely divine! The fish melts in your mouth it's so flaky good. The service was superb. There was one teen in our group who wasn't a fan of seafood & they did a custom pasta dish. We'll be back! It's bookmarked on my Yelp page too!

Very good medium priced seafood. Linguine perfectly cooked with nice light tomato sauce and good helping of crab meat. Clam chowder and fish and fries also good. Friendly, efficient service. Not a big seating area and already full at 5:30pm.

No fan fare menu but charming space. Service is efficient. We had the Dungeness special (boiled Crab) during season opening weekend so it's hard to judge. We may return if we are in the neighborhood though there are quite a few interesting restaurant in that neighborhood.

My son, his wife and I went into this restaurant tonight’s ago. I had high expectations And I certainly was not disappointed. I believe they have the best fish and chips I have ever had in my life. The batter and the seasonings were absolutely on point. My son is a vegetarian and they didn’t really have anything on the menu for him but they made something up for him. They made him a delicious asparagus pasta dish. My daughter-in-law I had a fried clam po boy or something similar. We all left very satisfied and I will definitely go back again. For me, that’s a very unusual thing. I usually don’t go back to restaurants twice because they just don’t meet my standards. I’m also very excited that they have one dollar oysters on Tuesdays.

Yes, there are Ipswich Clams and Lobster roll on the menu, but we stayed more local. The special appetizer was grilled whole baby squid. Wonderfully tender and properly grilled with that bit of a char taste. For the main course, two of us shared a bowl of Cioppino. The Cioppino is cooked to order, so if you are in a rush, or particularly hungry, you will have to wait. But, not too long. The Cioppino was wonderful, full of shellfish and crab. It was was spiced, but restrained. One can always spice it up with the tabasco, but one can never unspice an over spiced dish. Just wonderful, one of the best. Also had the deep fried Soft Shell Crab BLT. It was served on a buttered and grilled New England style hot dog roll, split down the top. My only regret was that I didn't get another. Not that it was small, it was that it was just so good. Fresh, crisply fried crab. With a cold beer or the bottomless iced teas, lunch was great.

Great vibe place. Oysters are amazing. Staff are helpful and such a great place to eat. Omg. Oyster Tuesday is my dream. Lobsters rolls are a dream fish is super fresh. Love this place. I must always visit when I’m there

Small and friendly, this restaurant doesn't accept reservations so perhaps get there early. Your whole party needs to be present as well. Close tables, open windows felt cozy but was kinda loud. Food was okay...Crabcakes was great...but my Stuffed Artichokes were quite difficult to eat and not much stuffing!

Had excellent lunch with my wife in this place. Friendly and attentive service. Ordered the sautéed local Halibut which was on the today’s special menu. Was not disappointed. Great price performance place.

we got this recommendation from a local. The atmosphere is not lush or fancy but the food was excellent. I had the fish and chips they were excellent. My friends had the stuffed artichoke, chiopinno, branzino. All were prepared perfect

We had some pretty good food here. We started with the calamari which was good but nothing mind blowing. I ordered the fish and chips and my girlfriend had the lobster roll. She though it was kind of puny for the price. My fish and chips were pretty good though and I liked the coleslaw and tartar sauce as well. I thought that the batter on the fish was really good (it was made with Anchor Steam beer). The service was fine and it was overall a good experience. This was not the best fish I had while in town but it was definitely good.

Great atmosphere! They don't take reservations but it was fun waiting. Very hipster crowd that made it a lot of fun. The food was great. Wedge salad was crisp and very tasty, shrimp cocktail was very fresh and I had the fish and chips. I thought I was back in Alaska

Silence reigned as 2 adults and 2 teens tucked into delicious beer battered fish and chips and crab cake after a tiring day cruising the San Francisco trolleys.

Shared the Cioppino and side of garlic bread with the family. Delicious and big enough to satisfy all four of us. Now onto Japantown....

The fish and chips were great, just like the British serve with out the newspaper wrapping. Make sure you have reservations at night because it does get busy. The service was good but rushed. Still it is all about the food and it won't disappoint you. The place is on the small side and it can get noisy but eat instead of talk.

WoodHouse Fish Co A local, lower Pacific Heights neighborhood restaurant that serves New England Seafood ( Maine lobster) plus. Clams, Shrimp - shellfish galore ! Casual atmosphere with nautical themed boaty wood tables and fast service. My friend ordered the Squid salad on the lettuce of her choosing ( no kale for her !) and I had an amazing black and yellow sesame coated ahi tuna sandwich on a delicious buttered (?) bun with a side of some of the best fries . Nicely priced and warm atmosphere .

First time I've been to this place three years ago. Today, to my surprise, I've got the same great quality of the food and service. Seafood is great here - oysters are super fresh, clamps are just amazing, the prices are still reasonable. Great!

Very nice place for seafood. Good location. Choice is not big, but that's even better. Not expensive.

Very nice place! I ordered a glass of wine of Chardonnay frogs leap, delicious! A cup of clam chowder was very good. A main dish 2 crab cakes serving with beets and salad. The waitress Jennifer was also very pretty and professional. Nice Sunday afternoon on Fillmore.

You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Delightful place for lunch and/or dinner. Fresh seafood. Wedge salad crispy; Calamari perfect-o!

We walked in here for dinner last night. Staff were fantastic, initially told a 10min wait and she changed her mind and made up a table instantly for us. Our waiter Mike was fantastic, we enjoyed Cioppino, crab cakes, fish tacos and fish & chips. They were all fantastic and I particularly enjoyed the Cioppino, best meal ever!

We went 2 times during our 6 day stay in San Francisco. Cosy restaurante and very nice attention by all staff. We really enjoyed The oysters (tuesdays are cheaper; 1$ each) The lobster sándwich is very good as well.

Amazing selection & everyone at our table had a great meal! Fish & chips, crab pasta, crab cakes, shrimp salad, salmon tacos, clam chowder & baha tacos - all amazing!!

We went to this restaurant based on reviews and we were not disappointed. The service was great, they were friendly and attentive. We had the calamari, lobster roll and fish tacos, all delicious. Would go again.

While walking along Fillmore street we came upon this very special restaurant. We hadn't dined here before and were lucky enough to arrive when it wasn't too crowded. We decided to sit at the small marble counter. Luckily for us we were greeted warmly and offered a glass of wine to start. The wine selection by the glass was excellent and lots to choose from . We both had chowders... Manhattan and Hartford (they also have New England). Both were absolutely delicious and very authentic. I grew up in this area and definitely recognize fresh fish and authentic classic chowder. We then shared a rather delightful grilled artichoke that was stuffed with crab and shrimp. It came with an arugula salad and we are still thinking about it. This is a place that I can't say enough good things about. The friendly service, fun decor along with some of the best fish I've had in quite awhile make this a definite stand out. It's worth the drive if you live outside the city of SF and if you are a local, by all means stop by and support this incredible restaurant. Definitely on my list of top favorites in the city. The bonus is after your meal you can walk Fillmore street and enjoy all the cute shops and perhaps a coffee or pastry along the way.

My family love this place. We live in the neighborhood and go to the Woodhouse on Fillmore St. very often especially on Tue. evening because of the $1.00 fresh oyster special. My husband and son love their fish and chip and it's reasonable price. Three of us only cost around $45 - $50.00 and the staff are friendly enough. The only thing that kind of bother me they want to turn over the tables to quick because the restaurant are pretty busy most of the time. When we go out, we like to enjoy the meal and the vibe a little bit instead of rushing ourshelf. In general, highly recomended.

We were looking for good seafood without going to a tourist trap. Great, cozy spot on Fillmore, I guess they have another location on Market as well. The artichoke with crab and bay shrimp was fantastic! My friend had a daily special po boy sandwich, and the husband had smoked trout linguine. Great service, awesome diy Arnold palmer and lemonades!

Food and service were exceptional! Probably the best Clam Chowder I had in San Fran. Our waitress was super friend and really helpful and advised us on local beers and fish. My partner had fish and chips and I had the lobster roll which was outstanding. Highly recommend!

We stumbled upon this little restaurant on a recent stay in San Francisco and were so charmed by it we went back the next night. It is clearly a popular place with locals and was always full but the tables turn over fairly quickly. The food was delicious, well presented, the service good and the prices excellent. We will be recommending to friends.

Small and cosy, fills quickly but the tables turn. Very fresh seafood at a reasonable price. $1 oysters on Tuesdays. Lobster roll was not as good as others I've had, but great fish tacos.

Had the fish and chips - best fish and chips I've had in a long time. The artichoke dish was very good as well. Everything was delightfully fresh. They're busy but walk-ins are possible. Reservation is recommended if you want a table and not sit in the bar.

Worst takeout experience! Food was cold, sauces missing, and no utensils. They offered to redo, waiting forever and the crab roll And lobster roll had half the meat inside then the original sandwiches. A complete rip off. Will never come here again!

The place is small and cozy with a nice atmosphere. They served the best fish & chips I have ever had and their special ahi tuna tostada's were amazing. Service was friendly and prices very reasonable. We will be back!

A nicely decorated restaurant not too busy when we arrived. We quickly ordered lemonade w/o ice, bay shrimp/avocado, crab melt sandwiches and fish and chips. The lemonade arrived with ice, so the staff had to make another trip to discard the ice cubes. The bay shrimp sandwich fared the best. The crab melt was a bit oily and salty. The fish and chips was okay. The cod was a bit chewy, Both the fried and cole slew were good. The bill comes to $60 plus tips.

Woodhouse is a small place which is probably a converted house. The area is sort of trendy with restaurants and shops up and down the street. People were constantly coming in but the wait wasn’t crazy because they do a good job clearing tables. The Seafood is very tasty and reasonably priced. We had the crab cakes and ciappino The ciappino might be the best in town.

as someone who grew up in New England and has eaten chowdah and lobster all my life I feel qualified to speak about the excellence of seafood at Woodhouse. Lunch is very simple, start with a cuo of clam chowdah, only get a bowl if you are getting nothing else. It is that rich and satifying. With the chowdah get the small lobster roll, which comes with fries. Cap it off with a pilsner beer and enjoy heaven on earth.

I might have given it one more star but I was sooooo disappointed. Had the ipswitch clam sandwich. Should have been filled with sweet clams, but tasted deep fried and that's all. My sister had the crab BLT. Same thing should have tasted sweet crab, but tasted muddy and deep fried. All you could taste was breading and oil. So disappointing.

Great menu, quality of food for the price. Have been back several times coming from Marin County. Just recommended to change the music as it was 1950's one day.

This place was mobbed every time we walked by which I consider one of the best indicators of quality & price. We were looking for a place for dinner on Fillmore & the wait wasn't too long (no reservations). The menu is fairly limited, but that's okay; that usually means they do those items well. Had squid salad, crab cakes, fish tacos, oysters on the half shell & cioppino. All were good, but the cioppino was a home run. $110 for 3 + tip including drinks.

The fish here is good and the oysters are delicious. If you get there early enough they have oyster specials. It is small and fills up quick. Good Clam chowder but stick to the fish and oysters.

It's hard to find a good fish restaurant in the outer neighborhoods and Pac Heights is no exception. If you are looking for a non-Japanese fish restaurant in this area, this is your best bet (if not only choice). I eat a lot of fish, so I rate this as just OK in comparison to restaurants outside the hood. It's not bad, it's pretty good, but not outstanding. If you don't eat seafood often and/or if you're not that particular, this may be a good choice for you. They don't take reservations so get there early and/or be ready to grab a drink elsewhere.

My chiropractor recommended and I’ve done back each time I’m in SF. Lobster roll is fantastic. Fish tacos too. Pay the extra for a small tasty serving of coleslaw. Service was great too.

Read reviews looking for a great seafood place close to our hotel near Civic Center and this place came up. The reviews were all stellar so we decided to go. Sunday afternoon, busy day, lots of open tables, no reservation necessary (or allowed), walked right in to a window table. The help was super friendly, the place was clean and the food superb! After the seafood lunch we had yesterday we thought we'd never have better, but this was every bit as good. We shared their East Coast Ipswich fried clams appetizer, my wife had the Dungeness crab and shrimp stuffed artichoke while I had four excellent raw oysters and the cioppino. We shared. The artichoke was incredible, the oysters as fresh as they get, and the cioppino stuffed with fresh fish, mussels, clams, scallops and shrimp. Really good garlic bread and a stew stock that was tomato-y and scrumptious; just a bit of heat and a wonderfully complex seasoning that made it very easy to eat once I'd exhausted the abundant seafood from it. We will go back here often! A definite favorite in SF!

I was in the mood for fresh crab after hearing on the news that the season just started after much delay. I went down to the fisherman's wharf and walked around the stalls and a few of the local restaurants. I just could get myself to walk in, they all looked like such tourist traps. Maybe they get a bad wrap but that's the impression one gets. I read about the woodhouse and the reviews looked pretty good so I drove there. Great looking spot, tucked away in the corner of Fillmore st and an alley. Very cozy and welcoming. Super friendly staff. The place looked and felt very inviting. The menu looked amazing and I ordered the large portion (6 oz) Dungeness crab roll. It was delicious and satisfied all my cravings. Yum yum yum and yum. Can't wait to try the lobster roll next. Keep up the good work guys.

Awesome place with many choices to contemplate. Not an extensive wine list but ok. Enjoyed the crab/ shrimp sandwich and the grilled artichokes. It was hard to decide as everything sounded wonderful so will have to return many times to try it all. Friendly and attentive staff. You won’t be disappointed!

Had some crunchy tasty fish n chips along with a beer for a fair price. good service and interesting area.

You can find me at Woodhouse dollar oysters on Tuesdays nights. Oysters are served with lemon, mignonette and a mixture of shrimp sauce with just the right amount of horseradish. Ahhhhh! If you're solo enjoy the counter. There are tables and high tops. No reservations but line isn't longer than 15 min. The lobster roll is from Maine and quite abundant. Definitely my comfort food. For kids there's an ice berg wedge, French fries, fish and chips. Great wine selection and the management is top notch. Only thing that keeps me from eating this 5 star is the noise. It's a bit high but worth it!

Great little find, there are two locations in San Francisco, the dungeness crab roll was great, at $28, I thought a little over priced but filled with crab, not like the ones at fishermans wharf that cost like $18 and you get it filled with a ton of mayonnaise instead of crab. Good beer selection on tap. We went to the Fillmore St location and it was a really cute walkable neighborhood with lots of shops and cafes.

We asked our Dylan's Tour guide a good seafood place and recommended this place. Once again he steered us to a great place! Crab cakes were delicious and hubby had the salmon special. Prices were appropriate for the food received. Service was great as well. Definitely would come here again when in town.

This was recommended by a local. They do not take reservations. We went midweek at 6:00 pm and caught the last open table. By 6:15 there was a line out the door. We ordered calamari. It was perfect! There was just the right amount of breading and it was not overly cooked. Next we moved on to the artichoke stuffed with crab and shrimp. It was served on a generous salad which in and of itself was very good! It was delicious. Can't wait to go back and try more menu items.

I'm one of the reviewers who thinks this restaurant is poor or terrible. We went there for lunch. One of us had the lobster roll ($39 dollars for 6 ounces -- outrageous especially for the quality!) and the other got Fried Whole-Belly Ipswich Clams. The lobster was pretty tasteless and I've had better tasting lobster that was frozen. As for the Fried Clams, they were overcooked and the bellies were so small that they must have been babies! I'm a New England transplant and I know good lobster rolls and good friend clams Even my digestive system didn't care for the grease afterwards!. The only redeeming quality was the staff who were attentive. Sorry but I can't in good conscience give this place a good review

The fried clams touted by some reviews were rather tough. I'm a New Englander and I know that's not how great clams are supposed to be. The bread roll itself was very tasty though as was the batter on the clams. My partner had the fish and chips - "nothing extraordinary," he said. Overall, this is an ok restaurant, even if crowded and not the sort of place you go to talk quietly.

A friend and I were in the mood for lobster, so we took a bus to Woodhouse Fish Co. on Fillmore, where we both had delicious lobster rolls. The price was not exhorbitant, and I would definitely go there again. service was prompt, even though it was crowded.

We were recommended to Woodhouse by a local foodie and he was right! Tasty fresh food, generous serves, pleasant service and very helpful, good coffee and what a meal!! Well worth another visit or two or three

I would have guessed that being in San Francisco, on the pacific coast, that this restaurant would have had a wider choice of sea food. The menu selections basically revolves around Alaskan cod in a fried batter, crab cakes and chippino. I ordered off the special menu for “farm raised” salmon, we asked our waitress where it was from. It was well cooked, but not abundantly flavorful. The oysters on the other hand were local fresh and delicious. Service was great, and portions were gracious, and the cost was reasonable. Just a limited menu.

Not fancy, but you definitely feel transported to New England with their selection of excellently prepared seafood. My wife had a lobster roll, and having grown up in Massachussetts, she can attest to the authenticity. I enjoyed my fish tacos. Great friendly service, nice location; what’s not to like?

Have been eyeing this place for a long time. Finally took the plunge on a rainy windy afternoon. Though the Oysters were slightly steep - at USD $ 4- 5.50 a piece they were worth it. Personally, I preferred the Canadian (Fanny Bay, Vancouver) and Bluepoint Yeocomico River VA) to our local Californian Hum Boldt and Sweet Water. The Grilled Monterey Bay Squid on sautéed spinach and garlic confit was excellent.

After a recent death in the family, my husband and I have been in San Francisco, dealing with all the estate details. It is time consuming, energy consuming, and keeps reminding you of your loss. One evening we decided enough was enough - where could we walk to and get tasty food which didn't cost too much, and experience a cheery atmosphere to lift our spirits. We walked in and were seated almost immediately (as there were only 2 of us), which cheered us up right away. The waitress was charming and patient while we chose our meal. We shared calamari as a starter, then I had the artichoke with seafood, while my husband tried the dungeness crab linguine. I enjoyed my dish, as I am a big fan of each of the ingredients. It was messy to eat though [ask for more napkins]. The pasta dish had olives, which my husband doesn't like (he should have read the menu more carefully) but once he removed them, he really enjoyed the dish. Everything seemed fresh, and freshly prepared. We didn't have dessert (went to Smitten, about two blocks away) as not much of a choice, As a break from our red tape filled day (& week), our visit was great. It seemed fairly priced, we weren't rushed, it was an enjoyable evening. The tables are a little close together, and the sound level is on the high side, but in a friendly, rather than an obtrusive or deafening way. I would recommend this restaurant.

First time with takeout here after several recommendations from locals. I was very disappointed in the quality of the fried foods from fish and chips, fish tacos to calamari. All were with very heavy batter cooked to a deep brown masking the flavor of the seafood. Not sure if it was the oil quality or just the preparation but all were among the worst we have had locally. Lobster roll was good as so stick to this if you don't want a fried food overdose. This was takeout eaten within 5 minutes from pickup, still hot. The fish tacos were also weak on fillings and lacked any crispness.

The perfect place to visit for the fasting Catholic who’s already tired of eating fish all the time, but enjoyed the terrific assortment of oysters, shellfish and fish dishes in this small, crazily bustling place. Thank goodness they don’t close between the hours of lunch and dinner since we didn’t end up eating until 3pm. Loved the variation on clam chowder (the Hartford clam chowder which is a mix of New England with a touch of Manhattan). Oysters could be bought per piece and the linguini dish was refreshing and delightful. Just a fantastic to a wonderful neighborhood.

We came without a reservation at 19:00, the place was full...nevertheless after 15 minutes we received a table... We had a starter (grilled squid)- amazing taste. My GF had a crab sandwich and a fish and chips for me...everything was delicious. Staff was very efficient and amable, Fair price for all (about 60$)...would come again if we had more days in SF... The neighborhood fantastic! Recommend recommend... JB

It's been a few years since we tried them but today we were in the neighborhood, HAD A PARKING SPACE and needed to eat. If they were more consistent I'd be going four stars. Reasonable prices and simply prepared fresh seafood. We've had nice meals there before but also vowed never to return after we've had amateurish to outright rude service there in the past. Actually our lunch there today was great. Maybe because it was slow, but today they were professional and gracious. I had a special: roast sole on a bed of melting leeks with perfectly cooked though crisp baby carrots and parsnips with dill creme fraiche. It was as simple as it was delicious. The wife had crab cakes. We were both surprised that the waiter got all her "modifiers" exactly correct (no chipotle sauce, cocktail sauce on the side, extra horseradish, no dressing on the salad, oil and vinegar on the side). Tuesday is $1 oysters all day. Maybe we'll drop in again sooner than later.

Came a little early for dinner, so we were seated immediately. The place is quite small so make sure to arrive early when in big groups. Loved the lobster roll.

Why would anyone come to a SF FISH restaurant and order lobster from Maine and Ipswich clams, chowder and cod from Massachusetts? This stuff is FLOWN in from New England! I thought Californians were truly concerned about the environment? How about sticking with the local fish...like Petrole Sole and Sand Dabs...they’re delicious! The local dishes they do serve here are ok...calamari, squid and crab. The fresh LOCAL oysters are great. The cioppino is much better in North Beach. Overall...a miss. Though I keep trying it...my hubby loves fish. Keep hoping I guess. Staff is nice. Place is crowded and noisy and not really a neighborhood joint.

We are FINISHED with spending $200 for dinner, even on our anniversary. We chose Woodhouse Fish, where we had been before (each separately) and we are so glad we did. The place is pleasant, fun, in a great walking-around district. Everything we ordered was delicious and it is so reasonably priced. It's a lively place, but not so loud that you cannot have a good conversation. The staff is youngish, friendly, responsible. Since it was our 39th anniversary we brought a small bottle of champagne, which they were happy to serve. After our great meal, they surprised us with a free dessert in honor of our occasion. We will go there again and again!

A wonderful place for sea food, always fresh and well prepared. They have some outside dining but I had take out. The two piece fish snd chips is a great lunch or dinner to share. On Tuesdays they have $1 oysters to enjoy with a sparkling wine. Service is quick and delightful.

Skip Fishermans Wharf for crab, come here. This is my new favorite spot for crab. Low key, tastefully, neighborhoody. My teenage daughter and I ate crab rolls at the bar are were in seventh heaven. Friends recently are here and had fried clams and fish tacos. They raved, too.

Stopped here for dinner on my first night in town. The food and service were both great! Fresh smelt with lemon aioli for starters follows by fresh fish and chips. Minimally seasoned, fresh and hot. Exactly how fish should be! Servers were friendly and attentive. It's small but has great charm and a certain coziness. Stop by when you're in town; you won't be disappointed.

We were in the area on Good Friday and decided to beat the lunch crowd . We ordered the squid for appetizers and the lobster roll. Both dishes were good. We sat at the bar and enjoyed talking to our server . The place is not big but very good customer service. Great neighborhood . Will come back for dinner

very conveniently located in the heart of the Filmore St shopping area. The food is fresh, the service prompt, and courteous

Located on Fillmore in Lower Pacific Heights. Great service and nice seashore decor!! The menu range is extensive! Had fish tacos and was a joy to consume!! Had Blue Point Oysters as a starter!!

Very relaxed atmosphere and a delicious lobster roll ! Friendly and non fussy service. It was a perfect Sunday afternoon luch !

Out concierge sent us here for Salmon. It wasn't on the menu but on the specials board which was good. The fish was great and a side dish that was supposed to be spinach hummus was very tasty but not like any I had ever had and had no spinach that was discernible. The waitress tried her best to not give us any substitutions but what we got in terms of the side dish was a mystery. My daughter noted 3 tables with a bread basket and we didn't get one. I am glad my daughter enjoyed her salmon. I was not impressed with the waitress.

The lobster roll and bbq oysters were amazing, my friend ordered the linguine which was beautiful, would def order that next time I come here ,would probably like to see the staff a little more engaged

We were 4, arrived at around 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday night and there was no place. We were told to wait 30-40 minutes and I am very glad we did. There is no area where you can wait, so we went to a pub close by. The personnel was very pleasant and we didn't wait much for our dishes. Appetizers are brought before, then main dishes etc. Highly appreciated! We started with a clam chowder, then Cioppino (fish soup with tomato sauce) and the artichoke filled with shrimps and crab. Everything was really tasty! Our friends had some typical crabcakes. It was possible to modify the side dishes on request. No booking of table is possible.

Had lunch here a couple of times during our recent stay in San Francisco. On both occasions we really enjoyed the food and ambiance. Service was friendly and helpful, the seafood was delicious and of excellent quality, reasonably priced. All in all definitely worth the visit.

This restaurant was a google search, we were looking for Lobster Rolls in San Francisco.. This place was not a disappointment:0 Lobster Roll $26/38 (3oz/6oz) comes with fries The lobster is mixed in house dressing and cabbage. Must try! we also tried the New England clam chowder, which was good. Fried Calamari is always something we try and it was tasty. The meal didn't feel heavy. The menu is small but you will definitely find something that fits your appetite. They also have specials posted on a board for your convenience.

We enjoyed the lobster rolls - but would recommend getting the small instead of the large unless you are a big eater (with lots of cash on hand). Difference between small and large Lobster roll is the amount of lobster and the price goes up accordingly. We also enjoyed the Fish and Chips -- at a much more reasonable price.
Half and half - great starter and lackluster entree.
This was my first visit to the Fillmore Street Woodhouse Fish Company. I've loved lunches at the Market Street location and decided to try the Fillmore for a change. Nice atmosphere with a very welcoming host/server. We ordered the special grilled squid and Manhatten clam chowder and enjoyed both tremendously. The chowder had the correct amount of spicy kick and was loaded with clams and potato. The squid was very fresh and tender and was served on a bed of Maitaki mushrooms and purple "greens" Delicious. The main course was steamed mussels and although the mussels were OK, the broth tasted like dishwater - literally. There was a sparse scattering of crispy shoestring potatoes and my companion opted for the garlic bread which had no taste of garlic and was just a couple of pieces of bread toasted under the broiler with some cheese. Basically a couple of smallish pieces of cheese toast. Tasty - but not garlic bread. I tried to like the mussels and made an attempt to doctor the broth with salt, pepper, and a splash of hot sauce but it was still dishwater. I reported the mediocre mussels to our server and she apologized. Another strange aspect of this restaurant was the lack of fish choices on the menu. Fish & Chips, fish tacos, both consisting of deep fried breaded cod. A special of wild Alaskan salmon filet. Roasted North Dakota trout. That was about it. I will probably not return to Woodhouse Fish Company since there are many other more interesting choices in the neighborhood.
