Californian meets Mexican on spacious plaza with good parking

By fongj2 |

Great place to sit outside for brunch, happy hour or dinner, on the spacious patio. Especially if you have a dog. Protected from the SF wind, you can listen to the fountains from Levi's plaza along with music from the restaurant. The inside has great ambience and is large enough for a group gathering. With ample street (metered) parking. The service is friendly and attentive. The food: Californian cuisine meets Mexican with delicious flavors. I have loved all the dishes I've tried, with my favorite being the chicken and waffles, second place is anything with the homemade tortillas. All artfuliy presented. Something here for everyone (especially if you are Gluten Free) The drinks are creative and scrumptious like the Bad Bunny margarita. A nice place to relax and celebrate the weekend, a Giants game or anything. Also right across from the Cruise dock, so a great place to disembark. Xica is an oasis.

Delicious, beautiful, worth the price!

This place was fantastic! I am gluten and dairy free and it was easy for me to find something delicious to eat on the menu and the staff was knowledgeable as to what contained dairy. They are a completely GF kitchen which is amazing and hard to find! The food was outstanding! We had the pork tacos and carnitas and both were so good they rivaled similar choices we’ve had vacationing in Mexico itself. The pork in my tacos was so soft and tender and seasoned to perfection. The plating was gorgeous and artistically pleasing as well, my husband and I have worked in the food industry for years and we are always so happy when the food looks as good as it tastes!! The chips and guacamole was so good we ordered a second helping. My son loved the horchata and the little glasses they provided for water. I had a Paloma and it was tasty and strong just like it should be! There was even a pretty courtyard out front with a nice fountain for my kid to play around while we waited for them to open! We felt welcomed when we arrived and full when we left and will definitely come here again in the future. If you’re thinking “should we try this place?” The answer is an outstanding YES! Don’t miss out on this wonderful establishment. Thank you so much for a memorable evening for my family.

Wow what a place for Coeliacs . Whole restaurant and everything is Gluten free. The food was amazing. My daughter had corn ribs and enchiladas. I had the house salad which was very nice This is a great place with great food A little expensive but worth every penny for the gluten free Would highly recommend

Excellent Gluten Free food for everyone

We picked Xica for our one dinner is San Francisco because my wife has a gluten intolerance. The food and service were excellent. We had fish tacos and duck tacos and they were superb. Oh and the margaritas were lovely. A special shout out to our server Claudia B who couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. I don't have a gluten intolerance but I would definitely be a regular here if I lived in San Francisco.

Would never go again

The food was not very good, the service was just as bad and we were charged for something that seemed to be offered as complimentary. If they ask you if you want chips and salsa (that isn’t good) and you say yes, be prepared to be charged $14. Outrageous

Gluten Free but extraordinary for all

As a starting premise, we are a gluten free family and not by choice Xica is 100% gluten free but sacrices nothing in variety and flavor. The fried chicken , yes in a Mexican restaurant was incredble. My wife shrimp Diablo and love it. The spicy margarita (okay margaritas) were excellent and did not have the dreaded overwhelming suite flavor. And, last but not least, to churro waffles were killer. The service was exactly as I like it; there when you need it but not ever present. Gluten free or not, this is a find and everyone, even those without gluten restrictions will love it. I can’t wait for my return trip to go again.

So tasty!

The fish tacos were absolutely delicious. I almost ordered them again they were so good. If you are hungry I’d suggest having them as a starter rather than a main! Chicken burger also really good.

100% gluten free restaurant - incredible food

As a Celiac who grew up in the Bay Area, it's ridiculous how few gluten-free options there are for such a large metro area. Luckily, XICA (pronounced "chica") is a phenomenal option if you're gluten free. XICA is a 100% gluten free restaurant so you can rest easy and not worry about cross contamination. One thing I've noticed as a Celiac is that a lot of companies try to cater to every dietary restriction in one fell swoop, meaning that a lot of gluten free things are also vegan or dairy free. I'm not vegan nor am I dairy free. I'd like a hot meal with an animal protein more often than not. Luckily XICA actually offers dishes with animal proteins and dairy. My husband ordered the $28 fried chicken. It came with 3 chicken thighs, Mexican rice and beans and grilled fajita vegetables. The chicken was incredible and very affordable compared to the only other gluten-free fried chicken I've had at a restaurant (Yardbird in Las Vegas charges $76 for a whole gluten-free fried chicken.) I ordered the chile rellenos for $27. It came with 2 stuffed peppers, Mexican rice and beans, and 3 gluten-free flour tortillas. It was totally different than any other chile rellenos I've had and was dairy-free. The tortillas were INCREDIBLE. I've had a lot of bad gluten-free alternative flour tortillas but these were fantastic. We ordered an additional order of 3 tortillas for $3. I was super full but wish I wasn't so we could have tried dessert, but next time we will! P.S. They're closed Sundays so plan your trip accordingly. November 2023

Good spot

Good food, a vibrant atmosphere, and great service from the staff here. We went here for a big group get-together and had sooo much fun. The buffet-style food they put on was good and the staff were very attentive with drinks and any further help we needed. Good spot overall.

Spacious and delicious

Perfect spot to enjoy the sun outdoors. It's been so cold this year but you wouldn't know it at Xica where I sat outside without my jacket from 3-5:30, in the sun, next to the Levi's Plaza fountains, enjoying a quesadilla with carnitas and carne asada fries from the "limited" but perfect menu. Tried the bad bunny margarita with carrot juice which made me feel like I was drinking healthy. Yummy. This is a hidden gem which won't stay hidden for long. I can't wait to book a group to sit inside this spacious place.

Outstanding and Authentic

We are not Mexican food lovers per se but we were presently surprised by the quality of and freshness of the food we ordered. We had the daily fish special with rice, salsa, tortillas, etc. It was great
