Wonderful Meal

By Schu |

I enjoyed my experience there. The service was excellent. My food was served quickly and was very flavorful. I ate the pork shank and loved it.

Outstanding service with authentic South Mexico cuisine

By Robert G |

Very interesting menu with happy and great servers. Ordered 6 items - to share. Grilled oysters and octopus - cooked with hot stones. Octopus was tender and tasty. Oysters were tasty. Only drawback they were not hot. Cabrito tacos were very tasty but small. Guacamole was also very tasty and nice. The corn soup was fabulous. Mole sampler plate had 4, quartered quesadilla were large and allowed ya to try sauces (mole). Very nice.

Absolutely Fantastic Meal - Food and Service …

By CharlieinTexas |

Wow! Truly memorable meal. Four appetizers - lobster tortilla (?), grilled oysters, octopus, and beef cheeks. All tasty, mole/sauces were terrific, fresh, perfect really, and great presentation. Entree - Scallops - Delicious! Tres leches and blue corn dessert super fresh. Margaritas were refreshing. Good coffee too. Best server at any restaurant I have been to in the past 10 years. Really. Knew the menu, explained the reason to pick what we picked, although he picked the scallops (as I said “you choose”). Friendly. Truly delightful. Trainee was nice, efficient too. Sat outside. Nice! Not cheap, nor should it be for the food, service, and ambiance. But, good value in my opinion. My pictures don’t really capture the perfect presentation of the food. Deserves its top 20 TripAdvisor rating! Just go!

Great authentic taste of Oaxaca

By Pro Cor |

Hugo has proven to be one of Houston greatest Chefs. Xochi is no exception and food is to enjoy. Good quality ingredients and authentic recipes make it a winner. Service could be improved. Waiter kept rushing us to order and couldn't explain the dishes beyond what he had learned by heart.

Unique menu

Very different items on menu; very good get a few and share, should try if close to Houston Convention Center

Tasty food long wait

By taliward |

The food here is great as is the service; it's friendly and very professional. We booked a table and are so glad we did as we arrived about 5 minutes early and saw a few people being told about the long wait times for a table and so booking is necessary (even on a Tuesday night!). Despite booking we did have to wait about 20 minutes for our table. We were not offered a drink or anything whilst waiting but the Maitre D' did seem very conscious of our wait and a little embarrassed. We could have had a table inside sooner but we wanted the outside one we'd booked as we prefer eating outside and also, we found the air con throughout Houston very cold! The food was good value, tasty and plentiful and our best meal in Houston. The veggie options were very good and they also had a separate menu for veggies which was nice. Try the sides too.....the asparagus was delicious! It was absolutely worth the wait and the service and food were really good so the initial wait was forgotten. Definitely add it to your list!

Odd experience

By beth ann k |

First of all, our waiter was excellent. We stopped in on a Saturday evening, at 7:30 and asked for a table for 2. The hostess said she had a table but it was reserved at 8 p.m. and we could be there an hour at the most. We said okay, as we had heard such good things about the restaurant. We should have just waited or gone somewhere else. We felt so rushed to get out that we didn't really enjoy the meal. The food was okay, but we just ordered something quickly, and didn't ask any questions .

Amazing Culinary Gem - A Dinnercation to Ancient Indigenous Oaxacan and Mexican Creations

By Anthony A |

Amazing Culinary Gem - A Dinnercation to Ancient Indigenous Oaxacan and Mexican Creations, without leaving Houston. If you are near the George Brown conference center or staying at the Marriott Marquis or nearby Hilton, this restaurant is a Must-add to your itinerary. The mole appetizers are delicious, as you are Introduced to the diversity of mole recipes. For the adventurous try the flying ant mole. The whole fish grouper with tomato sauce was filling to the last bite. Don’t skimp on dessert. Try the artistic real-like milk chocolate cacao pod with ice cream. Also, try the award winning Garden of the Pit mixed drink.

excellent option close to convention center

By Bette P |

I ate here twice. The food was good, the margarita was excellent and the service was outstanding. Proximity to convention center is also excellent. Recommended. Also, they take reservations, which is a nice option to have.

Delicious Oaxaca Cuisine

By HoustonFoodAndWine |

My wife & I were finally able to revisit this restaurant for Dinner while doing a staycation at the Marriott Marquis. We had previously tried the restaurant for Lunch shortly after they first opened, but left undecided on how we felt about the restaurant since Dinner is where the true capabilities are determined. After concluding Dinner the other night we both really enjoyed our food and thought everything was very flavorful and prepared nicely. While it's not our top preference in terms of cuisine, I certainly appreciate what Chef Ortega has accomplished with this concept.

Outstanding Mexican Restaurant

By Jeff K |

My wife and I had dinner here before an Astros game. Food, service and drink options were excellent. The food is extremely creative with some dishes incorporating insects. It is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to. Quality seemed comparable to Topolobampo in Chicago (Rick Bayless) but more rustic. We had two small dishes for our main meal. I started with pork ribs in ant mole and an octopus dish. Both looked great and every item was perfect, including various small vegetables that accompanied the octopus. For desert I had a corn dish that looked beautiful, was very creative and tasted delicious. My wife had a chocolate dish that was even better. It had a variety of chocolate deserts in a large cacao bean made of white chocolate. It was incredible. I only wish I had a restaurant like this near my home. Highly recommended.

A Wonderful Eating Experience!

By MamaBear PopTart |

We happened to be staying at the Marriott Marquis and decided to eat here since it was adjacent to the hotel. It was a great decision. It is always a plus when patio seating is available. The drinks were amazing and the food was on point. We started with a Memela, I will simply attach a picture because I would not do it justice with my description of this delectable appetizer. I was brave and ordered the Barbacoa De Res De Zaac and let me tell you it was beautifully presented and was far more than I expected. The way the meat was prepared was tasty and tender and the vegetables, well, I really would like to know exactly what they were. I thought they were peppers but tasted more like potatoes. You are probably wondering why I did not ask our wonderful Waiter, Juan C, but I couldn't finish my meal and ate the leftovers for lunch the next day and he was not there to ask. My son and daughter opted for the enchiladas and they both devoured their entire dinners so I am considering that as they were pleased with their exceptional meal choice. We had no room for dessert even though the description of the offerings were enticing. That's okay though because that just means we will have to go back to Xochi the next time we visit Houston.

Exception food and service

By tlwilson77 |

Fabulous experience overall. Service was fantastic and food, well, silence as first bites were taken of mole sample platter and entree speaks volumes. It was a birthday dinner and everyone was delighted. The location is lovely by a Greenspan downtown. Next time we'll eat on the patio. Mole sampler. Bacon wrapped quail. Pescado del día Halibut. Raspberry sorbet for dessert was exceptional. Mexican wine list was awesome!

I'd Give it a Six

By ashle4 |

Our best restaurant experience this trip was dinner at Xochi. The service and the food were uniformly excellent. The Octopus was the best I've ever had. Even the Enchilada was probably the best I've ever had. The beef cheeks literally melt in your mouth. My Partner had the fish special and felt the same. If we had any wish, it might be that Xochi do a bit of acoustic treatment to tame the decibel level. The room is almost too loud when it is hopping. Our highest recommendation

Meh

By Redwarpony |

Started off on a negative. Hostess refused to seat me at a booth even though for the entirety of my stay no one was seated at the booths and the restaurant was not busy at all. They do not have fountain soda only can. I ordered the taquitos and the xoxocotlan dish. The xoxocotlan had crickets on them. Feel how you will about that. Otherwise the presentation was nice. The sauces were good. The croqueta itself was mid. The taquitos had a lovely presentation and were good. Lastly I ordered the Ruben’s chocolate cake to go which looked like the cake from Matilda in the picture. I saw what I think was a cricket crawling around on the floor by the table next to me. The service was adequate. The busboy was especially attentive, moreso than the waiter. Would I recommend? Probably not. Would I return? Nah.

Delicious Oaxacan Flavors and Elevated Service

By volcanogirl |

We had a wonderful time celebrating New Year's Eve at Xochi. You can tell that this restaurant wants to delight its customers and that a great deal of thought, effort, and detail go into every dish. We each had a beautiful spinach salad topped with pomegranate seeds, apple, pear, dried fruit, and a hibiscus vinaigrette to start. For the second course, my husband had a chicken tamal in a mole negro sauce, and I had the plantain empanadas topped with cotija cheese and crema - very flavorful and perfectly cooked. For our entrees, I ordered the seared scallops in mole amarillo, and my husband had the black Angus beef tenderloin in ant mole with cauliflower puree. Mine was very good, but the beef tenderloin was fantastic, and I would definitely order that next time. The desserts were gorgeous; we shared a soft chocolate pudding "tree" with cherry compote, cherry gel, chocolate sponge, chocolate "branches," and a mole soil and another dessert that looked like a snow frosted pinecone made of almond praline, caramel whipped ganache, coffee-honey sauce, and candied cranberries. They were like little works of art and almost too pretty to eat; we loved the creativity and the perfect combination of flavors. The atmosphere was beautiful, and the service was top notch, friendly and warm, without being pretentious. I also had one of their delicious margaritas that had a hint of grapefruit juice and was the perfect mixture of sweet and tart. Lots of gold balloons and a live band made for a festive atmosphere. All in all a great way to start off the new year, and we look forward to returning again.

Super slow service

By S.J. |

We met friends in the lounge for drinks and appetizers before the game. We planned on dinner here, but the service was so slow we decided to just eat at the game. Drinks were good but the chips served with the guacamole were so hard it was difficult to eat them.

Great Mexican gourmet brunch

By carlosel395 |

Either you live in Houston or visiting, this restaurant inside The Marriott Marquis by the Discovery Green park is worth it. The variety of plates from Oaxaca are delicious. The ambience and service are outstanding. The only negative issue was valet parking with the Marriott. It took me 45 min to get my car back after brunch, very bad logistics. If you are on a hurry, I recommend to Uber or use a public parking near by.

for a Mexican evening

By Raffaella V |

to savor Mexican cuisine, definitely a very pleasant restaurant. Nice and fresh environment, service not very fast, but suitable for us to relax on an evening with friends. It's certainly not cheap but we are in America. However, very generous dishes.

An outstanding restaurant AND ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS

By magicas |

My husband and I had lunch at Xochi yesterday for Houston Restaurants Week. It was probably my fifth time eating here. It's one of my favorite Houston restaurants, the food is outstanding, and I get a chance to feel close to my favorite city in the world -- Oaxaca. But this time something really impressed me. They were using paper straws! I was told that all of their affiliated restaurants had switched to paper straws. This is a big deal for me -- plastic straws have been responsible for much damage to the world's wildlife. Thank you, Hugo Ortega, for running a group of restaurants that cares about our planet. I hope others will learn from you!!

Fantastic Mexican!

By Steven R |

I may be a bit persnickety about Mexican food as my gramps owned a Mexican restaurant in Chicago for 40 years. I give this place 5 stars. The mole sauces are spectacular. Great tequila choices too!

Excellent Food and Service

By AFPayne |

We were staying at the Marriott Marquis and this restaurant is located in the hotel. It was convenient, food was excellent and the service was exceptional. Apparently it is a hot spot for the locals who work downtown. We had ribs, chorizo flat bread and shrimp.

Definitely worth going

By Alan |

We went on the recommendation of our hotel concierge and it was a great one! The place was buzzing, really vibrant and full of atmosphere. The menu offers lots of difference dishes we hadn’t experienced before so we deliberately picked out these. Good food. Fast service. Overall a fun night.

Anniversary linch

By Lolis2225 |

Great place! Love the decor and the atmosphere. The food was amazing, too. Had the Buena Fortuna drink and it was terrific, couldn’t tell you what was in it because it wasn’t on the menu, but it was fantastic! Our waiter was awesome, too. It was our first time there and he was very patient and informative. I had the brisket enchilada topped with mole. I was apprehensive when I ordered it, but my gosh it was fantastic! Highly recommend this place, we are definitely going back!

Great food, drinks más service

By Jaime Seoane |

Great service at the bar by Jaime .. very knowledgeable and enthusiastic Excellent food and loved the tres piñas cocktail 😊

Great food, Great Service, not so Great Wine List

By John D |

Perfect spot to get some quality grub before an Astros game, FYI. I'm tired of waiting in line for mediocre food at the ball parks, and Biggio's has some of the worst service we've ever experienced (in 2019), so we went to Xochi at 5pm. Terrific service, very attentive but not over bearing. Yellowtail ceviche was stellar, very fresh, not sweet (they used pineapple juice but must have added lime juice). Halibut was perfectly cooked and a big portion (good for sharing). The white and rose by the glass wine list was very frustrating. The Rose was Miraval (Brad & Angelina property) - this is a common grocery store rose, and it didn't smell remotely fresh either. The only Chardonnay was Stag's Leap from California. Yawn. There was just little creativity in the white and rose by the glass list, which is the kind of wine that goes with that food.

Great Food

By Sharron H |

I requested my meal with the sauce on the side. The kitchen accidentally put the sauce on top of the enchiladas, and it was excellent. I would definitely return and recommend this restaurant to others.

Yes to all!

By John E |

wow! thank you Carlos for an incredible experience! the food was wonderful but the service was the best! i want to thank you all for this wonderful opportunity to try some amazing food with a delicious atmosphere!

Slightly pricey but good food and extremely convenient

By Steph |

Great and convenient spot for dinner if you're staying at the hotel or are at the convention center across the street. Friendly staff, busy but got us a table quickly, delicious food. Slightly pricey, but prices definitely hiked due to the area/being a part of the hotel. Worth it for the convenience alone.

First time to eat here. We were looking for a new place to try. It was good.

By Dan D |

I'm glad we decided to try this restaurant. It was a different style, Mexican food. It is not Texas-Mex, and we knew that before going here. We were not very hungry, so we shared a meal. The meal was very good, and we plan to return in future visits to Houston.

Delicious, Elevated Mexican Food with Excellent, Thoughtful Service

By volcanogirl |

We enjoyed celebrating New Year's Eve at Xochi, and the four course meal they served was absolutely fantastic. I had the crispy potato tacos with salsa roja, cotija cheese, and crema fresca to start. They were delicious. In fact this may have been my favorite course of the evening. For the salad course, I had the spinach salad that came topped with a hibiscus vinaigrette, apple, and pear. It was excellent, a salad I was actually excited to eat. For my entree, I ordered the costilla de res - a beef short rib in a pasilla mole; it was flavorful and fork tender. Dessert was an elote cake with rompope cremeux, candied guava, vanilla cream, and pecan ice cream. Not as sweet as American desserts, the flavors blended together so nicely, and it was rich and comforting. The only miss of the night for me was the Xochi Rita that was described as having orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and citrus syrup. I was looking forward to something fruity and refreshing, but the smoke of the mezcal overwhelmed the drink for me. Our wonderful server, Cesar, noticed I wasn't drinking it and offered to bring me something else. I thought that was so kind. This is the type of restaurant that wants to delight their customers. Tremendous thought and effort seem to go into everything they do, and yet they make it look effortless. If you're a foodie looking for elevated Mexican food with excellent service, Xochi is hard to beat.

disapointed

By Serge_De_Bock |

Hmmm… not sure what to think about this place… I loved the fellowship as i was with a friend and so spent a nice moment on a Sunday evening after the rehearsal of a conference… I like the venue as it is integrated in the Marriott Marquis hotel in downtown Houston and it is really nice place and i also enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant and the way it is decorated… BUT I almost did not eat as I am definitely not a fan of the Oaxaca food… I did not enjoy at all but no offense as the restaurant is always full and my friend ate it all with a beautiful smile on her face so in short, I feel sorry i did not connect! I can only recommend one thing: go, try and share 🙂

Exceptional Non-Traditional Mexican Cuisine

By CASS |

Xochi never fails to surpass our expectations, this is our fifth visit to this restaurant and it feels different every time. Keep up the amazing job of keeping the food and service exceptional. We love how they prepare a cohesive menu from the appetizer to the dessert as well as the right wine to match the meal. It takes the Mexican cuisine to a level that is beyond the popular belief that is all spicy, beans, and tacos. Xochi has become our go to place for all of our special occasions. Their attention to detail is second to none.

Houston’s not so hidden gem.

By SSJ5 |

Houston’s not so hidden gem. For a truly unique and delicious culinary experience, venture to Xochi. The cacao desert is the best. All of the food was wonderful, and the service was amazing.

So delicious

By sypai68 |

I went here with a group while in Houston on business. It was super convenient from the Hilton where I was staying. I had great crispy duck with avocado and chicharonnes. The sangria was addictive and to die for. Everyone else also enjoyed their food.

Pretty awesome.

By FrancesDecatur |

Very delicious place. We ordered Cabrito Con Chichilo, which we shared and couldn’t get enough of! Also the Memela which I didn’t want to share, but did! It’s a pancake with shredded beef and avocado, excellent! We saved room for the Elote Cremoso, which has of all things, popcorn. We finished the plate. Atmosphere was noisy, but staff was pleasant and helpful. Loved it.

We Loved Everything!

By Maureen D |

The food here was terrific! The wait staff was wonderfully accommodating and friendly. Our server understood that our time was limited and worked hard to help us out. The food was delicious. You can’t go wrong with any of it. Delicious drinks, too!

A good food with delicious.

By Teresa K |

We had a great time at this Xochi Rasturant. It was a different style of Mexican food. I'm very glad we decided to try this restaurant. The meal was very good, and we plan to return on future visits to Houston. The staff are super friendly and always make you feel at home. Highly recommend. Thank you!!

Flavorful dinner and lovely service

By sanakf |

25th birthday dinner - first time at Xochi and first time trying Oaxacan food (and the first time trying octopus, ant mole, etc) - a lot of firsts, overall so quite a bit on the line. But I absolutely loved everything. The octopus was cooked and spiced to perfection - none of that rubbery, tasteless stuff. Beautiful plating, lovely service, and the manager came around twice to talk with us, making us feel pretty special. Even the complimentary ice cream was scrumptious; perfect way to end the meal. My only regret is I forgot the cute birthday card the restaurant gave me on the table.

Excellent dishes from Oaxaca

By ecestafe |

Dining in Xochi is always a very pleasant experience . The food is delicious and well seasoned. The timing excellent and the service second to none. If not enough the ambience allows for a relaxed meal and great conversation.

Great food and service

By Dolphinheadkw |

Food and service was good, very froo froo mexican. Never saw a crunchy taco or nachos in the place. Great location, near the stadiums.

Fantastic!

By Cara |

Our experience at Xochi last weekend was incredible. Our server was excellent - he was attentive without hovering, and his course timing was perfect. Everything we were served was artfully presented and absolutely delicious. I would recommend dining here to anyone who is open minded and receptive to the idea that "real" Mexican food is much different than the Tex Mex standard to which many people in the US have been exposed. This is not Tex Mex. This is modern, Oaxacan cuisine, and it was incredible. Do plan ahead to ensure you get the time you want - we made a reservation two days in advance and the only spot left was 5:30. That worked perfectly in our situation, as the next morning was very early, but I know most people prefer to dine later in the evening.

Not your "typical" Mexican restaurant

By 949ww |

Ate here several times- interesting menu, not your usual Mexican fare. Wait staff were friendly and efficient. Good drinks. Would suggest reservations or getting there early.

We had a great dinner.

By Jorge Ostap |

We had a great dinner. True Mexican Oaxaca’s Mole very well prepared Portions are not to large and we had to order side mole. The octopus on the grill is superb and the cachetes ( pork chicks) in mole black. Are un beaten. Tortillas are very good The ambiance is very nice. And good service

Very Creative and Yummy!

By John C H Kim |

Last night in Houston I took a jaunt down to Xochi and sat at the bar for my dinner. Great meal, the flavors were amazing! It was also great to sit at the bar and order amazing cocktails masterminded by the bartender to accompany my meal. Everyone was super cool and friendly. A definite must if you plan to visit Houston.

Very impressed ❗️

By Gooseview |

We’re foodies and have lots of experience with Mexican restaurants. This place is WAY beyond ordinary. We think it’s outstanding with the flavors of Oaxaca. We only ate the small plates, trying several different dishes. All were wonderful❗️I speak Spanish, but I our great waiter Eric explained the menu and the manager Antonio made wonderful suggestions. Very fresh, light, tasty, food; in a clean comfortable place.

Family travel

Oh yes..the best Oaxacan food we ever had!!..Best attention to detail, and best restaurant manager. Took care of us ! And attended all requests

First class

By lemonsherbets |

I had to visit "the best Mexican in Houston" and was not disappointed. The food was superb and the waitress was great at recommending dishes. I sat outside as it was quiet but looked like a good atmosphere for couples and groups inside.

Excellent food! If you like mole sauce this is your place

By David B |

Had a quick dinner at the bar and regretted not having more time for exploring the menu and food. I loved the Mole disk (goat) and would love to try the others. Highly recommend. Fast service (at the bar). Will come again.

Original & Creative

By GlobalRover3000 |

This was stellar experience. It was packed on a Thursday evening, but I managed a seat at the bar. The bartenders are from that rare league of mixologists- not the kind that just pour from bottles. They also helped me explore their exciting menu - I had the grilled octopus and followed it with bacon wrapped quail. The chocolate dessert was literally a work of art. I’m already dreaming of my next trip back to Xochi.

Very good high end Mexican cuisine and Mezcal

By MartyHuntsville |

We ate at three different Mexican restaurants while we were in Houston and they were all outstanding in their own way. Xochi was definitely on the higher in scale and had the best cuisine We opted for the mole tasting menus with the pairings and it was absolutely fabulous. It was five courses beginning with masa along with their homemade cheese and sauce paired with Mezcal. The is also a shrimp with corn and special sauce paired with a margarita that was incredible, a baby goat taco paired with a very nice Mexican wine, duck, and a chocolate cake that had their ant mole as they are known for their insects It was very good and the service was impeccable

Not Your Usual Mexican Restaurant In Houston!

By texanscot99 |

Dinner for four on a Thursday evening. Restaurant graciously allowed us to push our reservation back a little as one of our party was running a little late. Waiter took the time to explain that dishes represent the food of Oaxaca and talked us through the different types of mole. We started with the Mole Tasting plate, a delicious way to understand the different flavors of mole from this region, together with the Aguachile de Fresa (spicy yellow fin tuna, strawberry, cucumber, lime). Both were delicious! Proteins for the entrees were duck, barbacoa, scallops and striped bass, all of which were beautifully plated and cooked to perfection. This is not a place to go to find Tex-Mex, rather it's a location to visit to for a culinary exploration of the Oaxaca region. The food isn't cheap bu is definitely highly recommended!

Great Twist on Mexican

By GABJMB |

From the appetizers and margaritas all the way through the entrees everything was excellent. Service was top notch. Even the bar was busy on a Tuesday night with people eating dinner so you know it’s good.

Chef Hugo Ortega's Best

By davemh333 |

Everything we've tried on the menu has been fantastic. There are dishes here that you can't find anywhere else in Houston, and they're all delicious. Service is friendly, but sometimes at peak hours it can be a bit slow. It can also get pretty loud, but that can contribute to the overall high energy of the place. Great to go before a basketball or baseball game.

Nothing great

By Ernesto R |

Tried this place, nothing amazing. Food was ok. Service was very good. But nothing special. Not bad experience but no to go back.

Great food!!! Great deserts!!! Great service.

By DBS99 |

The catch of the day was Halibut. Great dish. The octopus was also very tasty. The highlight of dinner was the deserts. We took the Cocha, which great looking and even better tasted. We also had the cheese cake with the ice cream which was great!!! Highly recommend!!! Not to pricey.

Expanded Mexican dining experience

By dorlucie |

On my first visit to Houston decided to have dinner here as it was highly recommended. Certainly a very interesting menu with excellent food and attentive wait staff. I had duck which I love but never had it Mexican style … excellent .

Amazing!

By TravelBrianCO |

Hard to get a reservation but if you can, go! A unique spin on Mexican food and everything is amazing. Make sure to try their signature desert which includes all kinds of goodies inside a white chocolate shell.

Great!

By Draghignazzo |

I'm proud to be Mexican, and we were delighted eating here. The twist the chef gives to well known dishes is spectacular. It is authentic yet innovative. At this restaurant the ingredients are stellar and that is something you can tell easy. Service was good overall. Selection of Mexican wines wasn't the best, they can improve here.

Most amazing food experience!

By PattyBb17 |

This place was amazing, chic, romatic, awesome decoration,we tried the pulpo(octopus) delicious!!! You must try their mezcal drinks they are delightful. The staff was nice, friendly and on point... if you visit Houston is definitely a place to go!!

Cozy different in the best way

By Ana J |

Oh my God!!’ Where to start? I chose this place based on good reviews … has become one of my top restaurants in Houston Portions are well and food is delicious Corn ice cream was totally amazing! Nothing I’ve ever tried before with that blue corn atole and whiskey ice cream… out of this world Hot chocolate was rich and Oaxaca flavor I’m Mexican so my expectations for an authentic Oaxaca place were exceeded, my husband got the carne asada with mole ; those potatoes were delicious!! The meat was juicy and cooked medium well as asked, very well complemented with the mole on top I ordered the salad… ufff what an excellent beet mandarin mix with amaranth… perfection (ok myb a bit more dressing… I had to dig from the bottom to get more 😅) The old fashioned mezcal was glorious and strong! I ordered the sangria and was full of flavor and fruity Overall excellent and quick service , music was present but not overwhelming We got the mole degustation with Tlayudas (my favorite was the tamarind and chilpitlin one , the others were ok… good to try but not my favorite ) To the chef my complements … amazing job, blue corn atole absolutely amazing 🤩

Excellent authentic Mexican food

By Mktgqueen |

Ate lunch here during a trade show. Service was quick and food was delicious. Had the Memetas - a corn pancake with shredded pork rib, avocado, shaved radish, queso fresco and other veggies. Absolutely delicious. A friend had the same entree, but also ordered the cauliflower appetizer (which is enough for 2-3 people). She then removed the corn pancake and put the rest of the entree atop her cauliflower making it into a bowl-type meal. Excellent! Their cocktail menu looked great, but alas, as this was a working lunch I didn’t get to partake. Maybe next happy hour!

Very nice modern Mexican restaurant

By Priscilla P |

Very nice modern restaurant with extensive cocktail menu and nouvelle Mexican cuisine that pays homage to traditional Mexican cooking. Loved the starter platter with all sorts of goodies including a guacamole that has toasted crickets included! Tried the crispy duck that was indeed crispy but the very generous portion size meant I could not finish it. I did not have room for dessert but others in my party enjoyed this highly share-able and beautiful white chocolate “papaya” that opened up to reveal chocolate and other ice creams and dessert bits. What a clever, tasty and artistic dessert. Definitely worth a second visit to check out all of the moles. Oh, and excellent service, too!! Two thumbs up!

Wonderful food and Service

By NASA_Chick |

We reserved a table at Xochi to eat dinner before a concert. It was really a perfect location, with great staff and amazing food. We were early enough to order off of the Happy Hour menu. I loved everything we tried, but the potato tacos were my favorites. The drinks were tasty and strong. I can’t wait to go back and eat there again! We did enjoy sitting outside as it was quieter than inside.

Attentive Service, Great Food!

By Allen G |

Xochi is near the Convention Center in downtown Houston. There is some seating outside which is what we chose because there was a festival in the park area nearby and we could hear the music. Otherwise the street noise may be annoying. The server was very attentive and was able to clearly describe the menus items. The lamb shank was the most tender lamb I have ever tasted. It came with a mole sauce that had just enough spice but was not overpowering. The margaritas were also very good.

Mindblown

By Cruz |

My wife and I went here for our anniversary dinner. WHAT A EXPERIENCE!! This is not traditional Mexican cuisine or something you will find in most cities, so if you’re in Houston for a short time, take advantage of this restaurant. Our server Villasenior provided wonderful attention and precise care to our table and needs. He also gave us some tips with the menu based on our interests and preferences. The decor of restaurant is very modern and elegant, nothing crazy but definitely provides a nice feel to the whole experience. The food, well it was different from any other Mexican place in Texas and that includes the Valley in South Texas. Most of the cuisine hails from southern Mexico. Given this was a once in a lifetime thing, we definitely went in the adventurous side and ordered the ant mole with crispy crickets. The dish presentation was flawless and the quality of the product is noticeably different than any other Mexican restaurant I’ve tried. Definitely a must visit when in Houston, you will not regret it!!

A foodie journey with Nelson

By Philip C |

We were pretty uncertain about what to drink and eat on this particular night in a new city with a sort of Mexican fusion menu. And because our server, Nelson, was both knowledgeable and friendly, we just left it up to him to set our path. So I really can't say what plates we shared and what beverages we drank, and even what dessert we devoured, but all in all it was a superb meal for about $165 including a handsome tip for an excellent waiter!

Yummy

By Nyum |

We went for a late lunch while attending the International Quilt Show. Great margaritas, appetizers with well executed entrees. Don’t miss the house specialty chocolate dessert served in an edible cocoa pod! We will return!

Simply the best Mexican food and drink in Houston

By markfoodieperth |

A local friend took me to Xochi. I was sceptical, with it being in the Marriott Marquis hotel, but those thoughts soon vanished with a great Margarita followed by classic Mexican. The mole was traditional (including ants - yes ants - in one!). Their wood fired oven food was brilliant. I had the suckling pig which had a great spicy red sauce. My friend had the roasted duck - wonderfully tender, moist with a crispy skin. I will be back!

Wonderful Meal

Had a great meal here – the fish of the day happened to be halibut, which is my all-time favorite. It was perfectly cooked, and served with with a couple of carrots and potato pillows on a bed of greens. I had a glass of French Rose with it. I enjoyed it very much. My companions and I also ordered the mole tasting for an appetizer – also good although I’m not a mole expert. The restaurant is kind of loud, but that is apparently the way things are these days, acoustic-wise. It does have outdoor seating, and is close enough to Discovery Park that should I ever visit again, I might ask to sit outdoors. Service was very good -- they explained things, were patient with us taking our time. Nicely done.

Memorable Evening!

By Maya C |

Last Sunday we decided to celebrate my parents Anniversary here and we had several special requests that we noted to them ahead of time, and WOW, I am pleased to say that they over delivered - presentation, decoration, attention to detail, impecable service, amazing food and drinks made this a memorable and unforgettable experience. Special thanks to GM Elvis and Managers Juan Carlos and Antonio, they are extremely professional and on top of everything! Also Diego, our server never missed a bit, made us feel welcome and made us laugh! Food was exceptional, definitely transported us back to Mexico, again, presentation was flawless, flavor to die for and temperature was perfect! Xochi is the perfect place for a cocktail hour, a casual dinner, a special occasion dinner or anything, has plenty of options for food, amazing Mezcal selection and the ambiance is perfect! Thank you again and you will be seeing us soon again!

Absolutely delicious!

By Ashley |

We had the pleasure of dining at Xochi during our recent stay at the Marriott Marquis Houston. Our dinner was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection! We highly recommend the Barbacoa de Res de Zaachila and Camarones a la Parilla. We also enjoyed the Chocolate Caliente for dessert. The Oaxaca hot chocolate was just what we needed on a cold, rainy evening. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. This was definitely our favorite meal during our trip to Houston!

Love this place

By brendaf007 |

This is my first time at Xochi. It’s got great decor, attentive staff and good food. I had the barbacoa and tacos.... I’m still stuffed typing this. It was soooooo good and within the Marriott Marquis. I’ll be back!!!

Great Mole Fine Dining

By Keith D |

Second d year in a row we visited here while attending an event at the convention center, this time with several couples. Amazing food, especially the dishes prepared with the various homemade moles. Try the sampler and then decide on your entree. Excellent selection of Mexican wines.

Creative Contemporary Mexican Cuisine

By Mirthmistress |

Love the innovative and bold menu. Truly modern Oaxacan cuisine. The moles, creative cocktails, and interesting items will ensure we come back.

Downtown must for authentic Mexican!

By Shawn S |

Absolutely amazing and our server Rafael was incredible, professional, informative, and kind. We will be back for sure and definitely requesting him. We highly recommend the Robalo, Atun, pescado, and any of their cocktails. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Fine Dining with Mole

By Keith D |

Xochi is known for their mole, having multiple flavors on the menu. We relied heavily on our server since this was new to us, and he made excellent suggestions. Start with the mole sampler to get a feel for the experience and then pick your entree based on your desire. We enjoyed the quail and a dessert recommendation from the server.

10/10

By Abigail |

Amazing!! Truly enjoyed my dinner at this restaurant. Very well made and flavourful. You can also tell how passionate the chefs and hosts are about the meals as they explain and guide you through every course. My favourite dish was the Cocoa dessert, which was a medley of chocolate and corn sweets in a white chocolate cocoa pod. The ambiance was great and the noise level was perfect (not loud at all), would recommend this place to anyone for dinner.

fantastic food and great service

By Sherina A |

I did not know what to expect .. maybe I thought another Mexican eatery.. ...well it was not. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of food offered and the unique flavors. The waiter recommended the special and it was delicious. I had spare ribs with a guajillo sauce and the most delicious mashed potatoes with carrots. I was impressed with the decor and enjoyed eating outside with friends. This restaurant gets a thumbs up all the way! If you are adventurous try the "chapulines" and "hormigas" I leave it to you to translate to English. Bon Appetit!

Flavor filled lunch in a beautiful setting

By Jeff D |

Went for Restaurant Weeks lunch and it did not disappoint. Food was extremely well flavored and presentation was instagram worthy. Staff was attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommend a visit - especially with the deal that is restaurant weeks.

Excellent Range of Oaxacan Cuisine

By 312bill |

I had two wonderful meals at Xochi last week while in Houston attending meetings. Excellent mole sampler, delicious oysters, wonderful enchiladas filled with brisket, and the opportunity to taste interesting dishes that others in my group ordered. Xochi is far above your garden variety TexMex restaurant in range of dishes as well as quality of preparation.

Great and worth it

By skidoo44 |

Was in town for work and don’t want to go out of the hotel. This place was great and service at the bar was fantastic. Cared for by multiple bar tenders and great recommendations for dinner.

Great evening to celebrate a birthday!

By Rbblount83155 |

Always amazing and encourages new experiences. Our service was dedicated and on point. We were dining outside this evening and ambience was perfect. It was my birthday and my dessert reflected that it made the evening very special.

Expected more

By john |

Drinks were great but the duck was very dry and skin was not crispy. Waiter did a great job. Expected better food from a top rated restaurant.

Great food and atmosphere

By babyfishmouth77 |

I dined there a few times on a business trip. Excellent, interesting dishes and cocktails. It is a bit expensive (being inside a hotel this is expected) but it is a nice option if you want to treat yourself.

Amazing

By Blmhouston |

Such a great restaurant - the ambience the menu and the service are all top tier. For lunch or dinner ... reservations recommended. The menu is modern Latin and the presentation impeccable. Loved it for a date night!

Great experience

By TravelApp |

Excellent way to celebrate our anniversary. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. It's an easy walk if you are staying downtown. A great choice!

Brunch Bust.

By Matthew B |

I was so excited to try "the best Mexican restaurant in Houston". My party went for the Sunday Brunch since this was the only opportunity to try it out. What I experienced was old food with ok flavors. Many items were soggy and had hot and cold spots. Many of the mole dishes did not have the depth of flavor I would have expected, simply tasting like reconstituted/blended dried peppers. The highlight was certainly the desserts which were very good. What I found to be the most disappointing was the fact I was charged $18 for 2 tiny cheese tortillas for the kids. This is absolutely ridiculous and a pretentious slap in the face. Im sure the regular menu is quite good, but that was not offered on Sunday, Very disappointing.

EXCELLENT! Really Oaxacan food

By Rocío L |

Surprisingly delicious! Food, drink, service and wonderful atmosphere and not expensive! Of course I'm coming back.

Wow

By Denis D |

We enjoyed our lunch of tacos de cabrita (goat) and robalo (sea bass) along with a side of Hojas de bruselas. (Brussels sprouts). The food was outstanding, inventive, unusual, appreciated. We had a great glass of white wine as well. The service was attentive and informative. Recommended highly.

Excellent food and service

By David S |

Every item was cooked perfectly and served in an attractive manner. Extensive seafood selection prepared in true Mexican fashion. The manager, Manuel, was very helpful and our waiter, Manny, was always right there to meet our needs.

Better than Mexico , in Houston Xochi, A wow restaurant

By RICOCOSTARICA |

This Restaurant is a thrill grayest Margaritas , Mezcales, unbelievable Mexican but elegant cuisine great service , I fly from Costa Rica or Miami or Denver etc just for the thrill of eating at Xochi, very busy but still cozy , one of my favorites, owner has other restaurants in Houston, check the small grass hopper tacos , you have no idea!!

Brussel sprouts=Amazing

By cnhnoel |

Attached to the hotel with a nice modern bar with knowledgable and talented staff. Great food choices that are a little out of the box with vibrant flavors.

They had me at chocolate menu

By USCKaboom |

Xochi was excellent. Wonderful eclectic flavors. Rabbit. Any mole. Chocolate galore. The mole tasting was fun. Everything was so good. Pacing was a bit off. But otherwise great.

Fantastic Mexican restaurant/bar

By Oana5 |

The most creative and possibly authentic Mexican menu. Recipe, taste, presentation - absolutely fabulous! We had Saturday brunch. Tried Robalo - the sea bass - amazing presentation with flowers on top! Beet salad - simply delicious. Lamb shank - super tender and tasty. Tacos, I don't remember what my other friends had but everybody was in awe. Highly recommended! OK for vegetarians too.

OUTRAGEOUS HAUT CUISINE

By robert d |

XOCHI is a unique dining experience. The food is from Oaxaca and is unique. First they carry Vago mezcal -the best. I recomend many of the dishes: appetizers :goat tacos, rabbit; the beet salad; the ant [insect] mole on your choice of chicken or beef; the rib eye steak and the spectacular cacao desert -a white chocolate replica of a cacao pod filled with dark chocolate and other things

Great food, very good service

By Romanw871 |

One of the best Mexican restaurants I eat at. I was promptly seated despite the place being busy and me not having any reservation. Service was quick, professional, attentive. My waiter (William), was very patient and answered my questions and provided very good and helpful advices. Food was nicely presented, tasted great. I highly recommend this place.

Average at best

By Rick H |

The the food was ok. A bit overpriced. I had the ribeye minus the ants. Just wasn’t for me. The person I was with liked it there. Service was excellent.

Sophisticated Mexican Seafood dishes

By Lori J |

Business Lunch with high quality food which was served quite late so we had literally 12-14 minutes total to eat before our next conference session. Taquitos Dorados, yellow fin tuna, guacamole, pescado, Tres leches de chocolate were all good but the entree of red snapper was the least impressive. Cake and yellow fin raw tuna were the strongest dishes although we had to get cake in a box to go. Mexican coke in a bottle nice touch. Menu very heavy on seafood so if that is your preference I'm sure it is fine. I am not persally a big Mexican seafood fan so I was looking for pork, beef, chicken or shrimp more in the entrees. If you have 2 hours for the meal it is a nice change of pace.

PRIME FOOD, STEEP PRICES

By 1Trippermonth |

First time at Xochi and treated to some excellent beef dishes. The short rib special was especially tasty and the meat was very tender. Another person in our party had the Chilean sea bass, that was very good but not exceptional. Be forewarned, however, the prices can be steep.

So dissapointed.

By Texasrealtor8 |

Perhaps because of Houston Restaurant month the service was lacking and the food was woefully underwhelming. Filet was raw and had to be returned. The octopus ceviche was devoid of any spice. Service was very slow and servers appeared to have too many tables assigned to them. Hostess was aloof and sat us in the most highly traffic area when asked for a quieter table. I won't be returning, but will still remain loyal to Hugos, where they don't seem to have this issues.

A foodies delight

By Andrew B |

Our group enjoyed an excellent dinner here. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the cuisine and was also able to give us some history of the food and restaurant. Each dish was unique and we enjoyed a few menu items that we had never tried before. The cocktails were also unique and tasty. Great experience. Can't wait to go back.

Best restaurant of my life!!!

By Florian M |

Best restaurant I have eaten in my life! Its very good Mexican beer and Mexican wine, its slightly spicy ox cheeks were still excellent as well as desserts with churros and white chocolate bean cocoa which is worth its internationally recognized Award! As a Frenchman, I highly recommend!

Holy mole’!

By CohenD1234 |

Wonderful food in another Hugo Ortega restaurant—of course not surprising. While the menu is a bit hard to decipher, with the English translations of menu items stated with many words in Spanish, the food is outstanding. Don’t come expecting Tex Mex or you’ll be disappointed. The fare is Oaxacan cuisine with so many different kinds of mole’. The less initiated will expect the typical ancho/guajillo chile base with cinnamon and cocoa. While that is available, and delicious, there are so many others and all with amazing flavors. Barbacoa with a red mole, grilled scallops with a green mole, beef cheeks with a dark brown more traditional mole. All these were great. The ceviche appetizer was delicious. Beyond taste, presentations were stunning. And the desserts weee gorgeous and delicious. Finally, which I should have started with, was my gorgeous and refreshing cocktail (pluma?) with hibiscus foam over a tequila based drink with citrus and habanero syrup. Going back here soon!

Buzzy Oaxacan Hot Spot

By plkmtk |

Xochi is a rather large restaurant in the downtown area that is evidently overwhelmed with guests when one or more of the near-bye local arenas or the convention centre are hosting events. We were fortunate to dine on a "non-event" evening and in any case we had a long-standing reservation. We were initially shown to a table in the Esplanade (?) section off the main dining room which really turned us off because it looks like a cafeteria and the air conditioning reduced the temperature to slightly above freezing. The good news is that there were plenty of seats at the bar (and also some in the main dining room) so we happily gravitated to the bar where we had a very enjoyable evening which started with a very charming bartender mixing a couple of Xochi's delicious special cocktails including a Nervous Traveler (Mezcal etc. Margarita) and an Age of Oaxca (bourbon, Mezcal etc.).The menu is obviously focused on Oaxaca specialties and we started with Tamal de Huitlacoche (think corn fungus) and Queso del Rancho (complete with several sorts of edible ants) , both delicious, and then shared Cabrito con Chichilo (braised goat in a spicy mole) and a side of shredded (and delicious) Brussels sprouts. There is a small but good selection of wines by the glass and we opted for the Freeman Pinot Noir. All the courses were delicious and the accompanying excellent conversation and service from our bartender made for a most enjoyable evening. (Note: the bar is very long and is a feast of activity-and we were there on a quiet night.)

Best Mexican in town

By Jason C |

We go 2 or 3 times per month. Food creative and tasty. The bartenders have all been there for a long time and good at recommending drinks. Sunday brunch is ridiculously good but go there hungry!

The entire meal from start to finish was a foodie's dream

By blayrisson |

Our family of four visited Xochi for dinner during a recent trip to Houston. Xochi has a trendy atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the service was efficient. We ordered the tuna crudo to begin and it was fantastic. My husband had the steak and I ordered the Tlayuda de Hongos which wad basically a Mexican pizza with roasted mushrooms, fresh huitlacoche, goat cheese vegetarian beans, hoja santa and mole amarillo. My boys had the child's cheese quesadilla and chicken Enchilada which were served with rice and beans. All entrees were exceptional. For dessert we shared the Cacao (chocolate shell filled with numerous chocolate textures), the Pastel de Queso (cheesecake served with strawberry sorbet) and the child's vanilla ice cream. The entire meal from start to finish was a foodie's dream. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation.

Sunday brunch

By magicas |

We were here for the Sunday buffet. The array of different vegetables was huge and all were outstanding. The pozole was amazing. But meats were disappointing - all were very dry and overcooked -brisket, ribs, chicken drumlet. Desserts were very good, especially the seed and nut brittle and the alfajores.

Mole for Days ...

By emgaila |

I love Hugo Ortega's restaurant "Hugo's", so I thought I'd give Xochi a try. Because it's located in a hotel, attire was a bit more casual than I was expecting, and initially, I was a little disappointed at being seated in a tiny table for two that didn't look comfortable enough for a leisurely, special occasion dinner. I think the restaurant was just a bit more casual than I was expecting. The chairs are wooden and just not inviting looking, I guess. No matter, my inner idealist calmed down a bit and we reviewed the menu, finally selecting the 4 mole options, a few cocktails, an entree for my husband and an appetizer for me. First of all, the mole offering was incredible. Our waiter really added to this experience because he was knowledgeable about the ingredients and came over a time or two to offer suggestions. He really was the perfect waiter--watchful, but at a distance, and not intruding too much. My appetizer of raw tuna and veggies was beautiful--a work of art on a plate. My husband enjoyed his large piece of meat, lol (I think he ordered some kind of chop). Everything we ate was well balanced, thoughtful and worth a return trip. Cocktails were awesome too. Highly recommend Xochi the next time you're looking for authentic food with a story.

BARTENDER WAS THE BEST MARIO ROM

By Tiffany B |

It was my first time here and Mario rom the Bartender was TOP NOTCH!!!! He’s cute and makes great drinks!!

World class

By Wep25 |

It would have hit the five stars with the food alone. Unbelievably good, original, an beautifully presented. But the service was also outstanding, in that special way that shows they really have their heart in it. Outstanding.

Excellent Authentic Mexican food in the heart of Downtown Houston

By rmangeles2019 |

Excellent authentic Mexican food. The selection of mole sauces are outstanding. Menu choices are excellent

A unique flavor and great value

By coyotegriller |

This is not your expected Mexican or Tex-Mex cuisine. No really spicy food. We were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the new flavor profiles. Presentation is world-class and the preparation second to none. We also found the cost very reasonable considering the quality of the food and service.

Great Mexican food - not the typical stuff, but Oaxaca region

By MilwaukeeCraig |

Great Mexican food - not the typical stuff, but Oaxaca region. Really liked the Tlayudas. Great small plates for sharing.

Didn't live up to the hype

By Stephen B |

While everyone warned this isn't Tex Mex, we were excited to try the Oaxaca inspired menu with intricate moles.. While the starters were delightful the serving sizes are on the small side.. The highly acclaimed chorizo stuffed quail was very dry barely edible.. grouper was uninspiring.... Beef rolls were tepid bordering cold... Service was indifferent... While flavours were inspired the quality of the service and food doesn't match the expectation.. And 500 for 6 for dinner makes this a meal to forget.

Oaxacan food that leaves you wanting more. Amazing cocktails.

By Manny P |

The mezcal old fashioned was knock-your-socks-off delicious. The chicatama steak was Instagram photo worthy and the flavors were perfect. The corn ice cream dessert will be a go-to choice the next time I'm here.

Mexican food on the highest level

By Alexander H |

After a ball game at the Minute Maid Park I tried this restaurant. I was very surprised about the exceptional quality of the food: This is really Mexican food on the highest level. I also enjoyed the happy hour Mexican style drinks. The staff was really friendly and I got easily a place at the bar even during rush hour. However it is recommended to make a reservation when going there with a group of people because it is well known and always fully booked. Overall highly recommended if you are tiered of fatty hamburgers.

Lunch with a Mezcal Cocktail

By Thomas D |

Very nice food, service and atmosphere at the bar one Saturday afternoon. Had the Barbacoa Flat Iron Steak. Full of flavor. Also had an excellent mezcal cocktail with gin, ash, activated charcoal and egg white. Service was top notch. They even gave me a free cocktail at the end I was there so long.

Authentic highly sophisticated flavors

By Claudia V |

Amazing food in a really cool environment. Every bite explodes in your mouth into a myriad of flavors all perfectly balanced. Cocktails are creative and delicious as well. Service can improve for such and amazing place.

Sumptious Mexican Food from Houston

By John C |

Located in Marriott Marquis Houston, Xochi specializes in Mexican food from Oaxaca. We has taco appetizer, shrimp, scallop and steak. This are ordinary, but the way they cook it is yummy. Their ambiance and service is so personalize, they are also vvery pricey. All in all a very good dinner with family.

Exotic menu with poor service!

By jayashreea2016 |

Exotic menu with poor service! Ordered a vegetarian appetizer platter which arrived like after 30 mins that too had to remind the server a couple of times. The food was good and presented well.

Five star restaurant for a reason!

By MZP232 |

We just had been to Mexico City and the food here compared to the original stuff! Unique, flavorful, and delicious. The mole is complex and deep. The wait staff explains the menu (unless you are Mexican, you will need help), describes each dish that is served, has terrific presentations, trendy. It's definitely gourmet so expect to pay a lot. It is a journey and a destination, though!

Divinity on the tongue

By dustythoughts |

We couldn't be in Houston without trying some great Mexican food, and this place was the perfect spot. The ambiance is a great balance of casual and upscale, with attentive staff and prompt service. The food is Southern Mexican, which is both great if you want something other than the usual chips and salsa, and also overall a delicious meal. Try the robaldo, the molotes de xoxocotlan, and the barbacoa de res de zaachila. Everything was perfect!

Possibly the best Mexican

By Reviews |

Food is exceptional, well worth a visit, service typically excellent too. This is an upmarket Mexican restaurant in what is becoming a hip part of town..If you like Mexican food don’t miss it and if you don’t like Mexican food there’s a good chance you will still like it..

Astonishingly good

By Sam N |

Everything about Xochi is colorful, happy, delicious. Most exquisite food. Best cocktails and mocktails ever. Wonderful friendly staff and management.

By Stephen M |

Atmosphere was wonderful. Oysters, beef cheeks, shrimp, mole where all on Happy Hour and fantastic. Will go back.

Mole is amazing as well as the deserts

By Drew M |

I highly recommend sitting at the bar as they are a great crew. Carlos made great recommendations that were always on point. The staff seem genuinely happy to be there and the food was on point both nights.

REAL “ALTA COCINA MEXICANA”

By Bony56003 |

Want to try real mole, sopes, huitlacoche, margaritas; this is the place. Why not 5 stars? Because the service it’s good but not excellent . The ambience it’s nice a mix of elegant-casual place. And it’s inside the Marriot.

Outstanding food and service; worth the $$$$

By mathlawguy |

Xochi is not cheap and parking can be a nuisance. But, if you can overlook those two things -- and, all things considered, it is not particularly expensive -- you are in for a treat. Just outstanding nueva Mexican cuisine, terrific service and a quiet ambience. Its a good place to hold a business meeting or a recruiting event. Food is very creative but not affected. Portions are ample but not enormous. If your in downtown Houston, I doubt you can do better.

Excelente Brunch

By Maria Teresa |

We went to this place for Sunday Brunch and celebrate our wedding anniversary, it was a great choice, they have great variety of typical Mexican dishes salty and sweet, good atmosphere, excellent attention. Super Recommended. Best of all was the detail of a special dessert for our celebration 💕

Great food!

By Carol M |

Fresh, beautifully presented Mexican food. Not the usual menu, but great food. Drinks are exceptional!

THE go to restaurant!

By Diver-Hiker |

Always go back to Xochi when we are in town. Amazing food and service. While I often skip dessert, we shared the Cacao with another couple. OMG I thought it was a real cacao pod, but after eating the delicious samplings inside our waiter let us know the pod was white chocolate! Crazy!

A surprising experience at Xochi

By Helene S |

As a huge fan of Hugo's and Caracol, I have had Xochi on my radar for a while. I was quite excited to have a work meeting scheduled there, but then, unfortunately, was quite disappointed in the food and service during our meeting. Part of the disappointment could have been in the menu selection. I have read the Houston Restaurants Week (HRW) menus and know the variety that they have for vegetarians (like taquitos de papa and quilites and cauliflower enchiladas with mole de amarillo) and pescatarians (like the fresh catch of the day) and the choices look amazing. I also know how they can customize menus as the chef is so creative. The appetizers were good. The ceviche al tuna was fresh. Could have used more than one large round chip as it was being shared family style. The chicken was good. Chef Hugo Ortega is the Master of Mole and I could have scooped up the mole with a spoon. So delicious. If you were a vegetarian, you were out of luck as no other appetizer options were available. For dinner, I asked the waiter for his recommendation between the seafood/fish enchilada and the memelas de vegetales as the other options all had beef, pork or shellfish. Even the poultry choice was wrapped in bacon. Vegetarian enchiladas were not an option. The waiter highly recommended the memela. The memelas de vegetales tasted like two cold thick corn/masa pancakes covered with an assortment of cold vegetables, like mushrooms, zucchini and corn, with crema and queso fresca covered with a salsa albanil. It seemed more like a salad than an entree and several my vegetarian colleagues were surprised that this was literally the only vegetarian option on the entire menu for the evening other than the black beans, rice and peas and the desserts. Ordered a Mexican hot chocolate which was delicious (although it took an hour to get), they forgot one of my colleague's meals (which had to be reordered) and I took the chocolate tres leches to go. The acoustics in the banquet room were poor. You could hear the noise from the restaurant and as the microphone was not working, it was impossible to hear the speakers during their presentations. Parking is available for $12. Free street parking is available if you are lucky to find a spot near Discovery Green. Would I come back? To Hugo's or Caracol, definitely. To Xochi, I'm not so sure. Hopefully, it was just an off night, but I would not recommend the banquet room at Xochi for a work meeting where you had to be able to hear multiple speakers.

Authentic and Delicious

By Diver-Hiker |

We were here to celebrate our anniversary and could not have picked a better spot. Everything was top-notch from the cocktails, dinner and service. Don't come here looking for fajitas or chimichangas-this is truly Mexican cuisine. We had a hard time picking from the menu so we will visit next time in Houston. Waiter and service were excellent. I had the duck and she had the lamb shank with mole for main course and both were outstanding. Margaritas were amazing as well.

#9 on trip advisor for a reason

By nanvano |

Fun, delicious, unusual! Of course great margaritas, but also a very good selection of mezcal and cocktails made w mezcal. First time I’ve seen wines of Mexico, which I will try next time. I had two of the mole selections (Amarillo and dark) and my companion had the barbacoa. Portions of the mole selections were generous. So next time i will choose one so could also indulge in a dessert. I was skeptical of the dining choice but as per usual my companion’s choice was right on. #9 on trip advisor for a reason.

Orgasmic food and wonderful

By Elias W |

Orgasmic food and wonderful service. The food has amazing flavors that comes out with every bite. Will be back soon to try more dishes... and to have more of that crispy duck

Oaxaca flavorific

By Stephen S |

Houston has so many good Tex-Mex places. Xochi celebrates a Southern Mexican cuisine. It was a nice enough evening to sit out on patio near Discovery Green. They have a wonderful Happy Hour Menu which allowed us to try many different "small bites". We actually didn't order from one of the many good looking Entrees. We did enjoy an appetizer of 4 moles(with corn Tortillas to dip), Shrimp on a Tostada, chicken on a masa pancake, wood roasted oysters, and asparagus. The Beef Cheeks were absolutely the best! All of these had a variety of Mole's for seasoning. Save room for dessert though.. Order only one...but the Cacao is a must. It's choclate, chocolate, chocolate in a chocolate pod. Drinks....Wife enjoyed the Sangria. I loved the Houstonian..whisky based drink. Served neat, but chilled.

Very nice brunch spread

By maggiet0813 |

There was plenty to choose from the wide variety of goods. The brunch is $34 adults and $12 kids. I do not eat $34 worth of food anywhere so I found the price a little high and that’s the main reason I gave it a 4 and not 5. There is valet parking at the hotel and if you validate in restaurant it’s $8. Parking is horrible and/or expensive. The restaurant is very nicely designed, it’s very popular, great drinks at the bar. There is music at the brunch time - 11-2.

A lovely dinner - amazing food - delightful server

By Odyssey297485 |

Our meals were delicious, our server was very attentive and we had a lovely time. We would definitely return.

A different type of Mexican Restaurant

By Munro1954 |

Xochi presents the culinary tastes of Oaxaca, Mexico and its varied geographic regions with a d menu of Oaxaca-inspired food and drink. I had Barbacoa de Res de Zaachila which is grilled rolled skirt steak, hoja santa, guajillo puya and costeño pepper broth, potato, carrots, masa dumplings The service was excellent and they provided appreciated guidance on the unique menu items. This was a most enjoyable culinary adventure of Mexican Cuisine

Birthday brunch

By Greg M |

An experience not forgotten soon... My local newspaper(Kanata, ON) ran a full page article about Houston site seeing and Xochi restaurant. Well I have been working in the Houston area and decided to check out this hot spot. We were not disappointed. It’s an upscale and hip Mexican adventure. As you can see from the pictures the food looks chic and tastes are amazing. Service was spot on and very attentive. I will be returning again..EXCELLENT.

Lives up to the hype...lovely restaurant

By Kosta100 |

Had a great brunch here on the weekend. Wonderful food, great range of choices and the quality is very, very high. Service was reasonably good. Would return again.

Nice Barbacoa (grilled rolled tenderloin)

By YY_Xie |

I had the Barbacoa de Res de Zaachila (grilled rolled tenderloin, hoja santa, guajillo puya and costeño pepper adobo, potato, carrots, masa dumplings). The beef was tender and flavourful. My friend also liked his enchiladas. The valet parking fees ($11) are pretty steep, but drivers might be better off taking that up, as the nearby open air carpark costs a freaking $30.

Sunday Brunch. Really unique,

By f16yarko |

Sunday Brunch. Really unique, high end cuisine menu. No fajitas, thank you! Excellent ceviche. Great service. Nice cocktails. Will be back

Xochi - yep worth all the hype.

By Buddy H |

Outstanding dinner at Xochi! Everything was so fresh and delicious I don’t really know where to begin or end this review. My new favorite place in Houston. Quite frankly a new favorite place to eat period. As an appetizer I had the Molotes de Xoxocotlan- and wow- so many levels of flavor and so perfectly paired ingredients. My wife and daughter-in-law split the Tlayuda de Res (grilled steak flat tortilla) and they loved it. And yes - I snatched a bite or two and it was awesome. For dinner I had the Pork shank substituted with red mole. While the pork shank was perfectly Prepared, the mole sauce is definitely the star of the show for the main course and I think next time I will get a mole sampler just to get even more amazing flavors. You must try Cacao for dessert. Delicious inside and awesome presentation. If you are looking for an amazing, delicious, and unique dining experience with impeccable service and atmosphere- you can not go wrong choosing Xochi.

Cacao

Close to our ASN meeting in GB conference centre. Lunch time quick makan! Mexican food at its best. Love the cacao. The waiter was very helpful with the menu.

Loved the mole tasting.

What a cool restaurant. Nice servers, great food. I especially loved the mole made from ants. Ants! Would recommend.

Great restaurant

By Anjana |

Excellent service, delicious food & great cocktails! Our servers were lovely, attentive and patiently answered all our questions whilst giving us great recommendations. It's a lovely place for a nice (if slightly pricey) evening out. Would definitely go back <3

Holy Mole this place is yummy.

By AtlantaTraveller |

My family and I ate here 3 times in a 4 day trip to Houston. I’d never really had authentic Oaxaca food, and this place really delivered. I’ll definitely go back.

Unique Oaxacan restaurant and even better bar and battenders.

By Mark S |

We so look forward to visiting the restaurant while in Houston. Located within hotel Marriott Marquis on Walker Street this Oaxacan (Mexican regional) restaurant serves very flavorful unique foods. Prices are very fair. This is not TexMex so don’t expect salsa snd chips! But I had red snapper enchiladas an my wife had a roasted sweet potato side dish (which was a meal). But sit at the bar if you can. Get to know Carlos, Victor and Jimmy. Excellent regional craft cocktails many mezcal based. These are three of the most personable talented bartenders I have met. We loved time with them. They love what they do and excel at it! Carlos gave me a lesson on some products and flavor tricks that dwarf my meager mixology skills. One drink “masa minus” has a corn purée in the mezcal and ginger based drink with dehydrated tortilla flecks in the salt! Who comes up with this? It was amazing and unique. Please visit this place and tell them Mark and a Lynda from Comicpalooza said hi.

This restaurant is amazing! The flavors are explosive and the Cacoa dessert was the Best dessert I have ever had. 5 stars!⭐️

An excellent and authentic Mexican restaurant

Truly one of the best Mexican restaurants in the United States. It is hard for me to pick a favorite because everything I had there was incredibly good. The service was exemplary and the ambience was ideal. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Spicy Oaxaca Corner

Was staying at the Marriott Marquis Hotel and had breakfast and lunch at this restaurant. The food was really delicious. I asked for the spiciest spice and i got i!. Even the hamburgers tasted great. We had some cocktails and wines as well. I would highly recommend.

Taste of Oaxaca on the menu. Everything is amazing. The bartenders are also very helpful when recommending dishes.

Pretty Good

Not sure if I’d call this a Mexican restaurant rather than Latin, but regardless the food was very good, service was good, and atmosphere good. Priced a tad on the high side. Would we go back? Sure, why not.

Best Food Outside of Oaxaca - And Chocolate Heaven Dessert

By stephrab |

I love Oaxaca and have been there a few times. OMG!! What an unexpected treat to eat here. It was truly like being in Oaxaca at the finest restaurants there. The vegetarian mole was superb, mouth watering, perfect flavored. The range of vegetarian (and non-vegetarian) dishes was astonishing. Save room for dessert. If you have to choose, and I hope you do not, choose dessert over appetizers. We ordered almost everything on the menu (large group) and each one was better than next! And if you love chocolate, as I do, then it is as if you have gone to heaven with their own chocolate menu.

What a phenomenal experience! The most versatile menu I’ve ever seen! The food is exquisite. My husband and I split three appetizers in order to be able to experience this cuisine. The rabbit in blue corn puff pasty was delicious, as was the insects perched on fabulous homemade cheese with a cream on top to die for! Yes, I did say insects! Wasps, ants, and grub. We just had to experience it. The octopus was wonderful as well. An entree of roasted suckling pork was also delicious and so tender. A chocolate dessert was scrumptious and ended our meal beautifully. We are so glad we experienced Xochi!

Good flavors on most dishes but some lacking

By Ana J |

Drinks were delicious as usual but the fish starters weren’t as fresh as one would expect- the robalo with avocado wasn’t up top. The green chicken enchiladas were good 👍 and the seared tuna was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. The meat Tlayuda was fresh and on spot! But the cabrito tacos weren’t good at all- the meat lacked flavor and had too much fat on it- two little tacos and the little meat on it lacking - not good- restaurant has to really work better on those. The potatoes with mole tho were divine- the seasoning and cooking was thrbhuglight of the night; husband couldn’t get of those with just the right amount of spiceyness in the mole. Also the habanero sauce delicious as usual - creamy and spicy which helped the starters of robalo and tuna become easy or to disguise the fishy flavor and smell. The cacao dessert was good but missed more of those maracuyá squares and the variety of the chocolate wasn’t as balanced as in previous ocassions .. had too much of the sponge cake crumbs and not as much of the other favorite elements (the crunchy parts) Overall was good but the restaurant needs to work on certain dishes or rotate the fish only on season so it’s fresher. Xochi is one of our favorite restaurants and usually is consistent with good flavors but lately more than one dish is lacking when we visit

We loved this place! Unique food. Great drinks that were a work of art. I tried the pluma and my husband had the garden of the pit? Think the bartender is up for best bartender in the city.

Not what expected

Rated # 15 of 7,394 in Houston but we didn’t think the prime rib was worth $40. The crispy chicken was low in flavor. The pork shank was also nothing special. A bright spot we’re the enchiladas.

Superb Mexican food experience

We had a great time at this place. The drinks were excellent. The food was creative, well presented, and tasty. The dessert was awesome. Highly recommended!

Everything I was hoping for

By petdoctormom |

I was excited when I saw that the restaurant I wanted to try was actually in our conference hotel. As a result, i was able to eat there a few times, both lunch and dinner. Everything we ate was great, whether it was lunch (Tacos de Chicharrón and Huitlasquites) or dinner (any appetizer, aguachile or ceviche, and any entree), and don't forget dessert. The Helado de Elote was exquisite. The staff was wonderful, helpful and friendly. Both Mag and April made me feel right at home. Bottom line - go. you won't be disappointed!

Good but not my flavor

By NaplesGuy239 |

We stopped by Xochi at the Marriott Marquis since we stayed at this hotel without a reservation, and they were able to seat us right away, which was a nice surprise. The service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. While I appreciated the atmosphere and the creativity of the menu, I found most of the dishes to be quite spicy. Since I’m not a big fan of spicy food, it was a bit challenging to find something that suited my taste. The menu also felt somewhat limited for my preferences. Overall, I liked the restaurant’s look and service, but the food wasn’t a great fit for me personally, so I likely wouldn’t return.

Excellent experience

We visited Xochi for a Birthday dinner and felt fully satisfied with food and service. I can suggest as appetizer the Tacos Dorados. I selected as main course the Lamb Shank which tasted great and came off the bone like melted butter. The Enchiladas dinner was great as well. The only minor area of improvement to strengthen the overall dining experience could be the reduction of background noise.

Horrible experience

By pilotbill |

Other than a pleasant waiter and an interesting wine list, there is nothing good about this restaurant. The atmosphere is terrible. Noisy, crowded, with basketball games flashing on televisions 10 feet from our table. Feels like a tacky sports bar rather than fine dining. I am a foody, and my wife loves mole, but their selection of moles was totally inedible. We had the mole tasting, which was 4 little bowls of disgusting liquid to smear on dry tasteless cold tortillas folded over a dab of dried up beans and cheese. We tried two other appetizers which were almost as bad, and then asked for the check without ever ordering a main course. The manager came over and asked how we were doing, and when we told him what we thought he was defensive and unresponsive.
