The place is beautiful, has a stunning city view. The food is very good, the service is excellent and the prices are high. It's a place where a lot of celebrities go. The price-quality ratio is loose as q is too expensive, although worth it.

This restaurant is literally in the Hollywood Hills. It is a definite hidden gem. The food is some of the best Asian fusion food I have ever had. There is a nice walk down to a Pagoda, which is the oldest structure in LA. Definitely recommend for a family, couple, celebration. It is a little pricey, but totally worth it!

Amazing view, terrible food and even worse service. Was seated inside despite requesting an outdoor table weeks ago, service was rushed…had to go to the bar from the table to order drinks as the waiter was M.I.A! To top it all off the food was bland (had better sushi from UK supermarkets) DO NOT GO HERE FOR FOOD. Grab a beer, enjoy the view and go elsewhere for dinner!!!

We came with our two kids, 17 and 9, and had an amazing experience. This was my second time coming here and my family's first. Our reservation was for 7:15 and we showed at 7:00. They took us early with maybe a 5 minute wait and we had our appetizers already by 7:20. Giovanni was our waiter and was top notch with service, always ready to accommodate and please with the utmost of speed, consideration, and friendliness. He even ran out to the valet to find us waiting for our car to return a sweatshirt of our youngest child's that we forgot at the table. I ordered the lobster sushi rolls and even though I am not a big sushi person, these were delicious and very filling and may have won me over to sushi ;). Our kids split the filet and were delighted with the flavor. The mushroom appetizer was also a hit- all four of us enjoyed it and my husband and oldest enjoyed the dumplings appetizer very much. Deserts were tasty as well - chocolate cake for two and also the chocolate drama cakes were delicious and we were also given a free beautiful generous sized dessert for our 20th wedding anniversary. Outstanding views from almost every table, you can not go wrong. Book ahead and aim for sunset time, you will not be disappointed. We will be back!

It is a very nice Japanese restaurant at the top of the mountain with a beautiful view, nothing out of the ordinary, the impeccable service from everyone, however the food is good to average, the prices are excessive and they have two kitchens which makes the dishes arrive out of order by time, our experience: we had to cancel the miso soup, because it did not arrive even when we finished eating

Trendy Japanese-esque restaurant with views of LA. Came here for a birthday dinner, and they currently have outdoor and indoor seating during covid. They accept reservations for large groups (we had 8 people). Valet parking only ($12, credit cards accepted). Be prepared to wait - even though we had a reservation and the entire group was present, it still took about 20 minutes to get seated. They seem to put the bigger groups in the back of the restaurant, but if you come in a group of two, try to get seated by the garden (it’s very pretty). There’s a bar to grab a drink while you’re waiting or you can walk around and check out the views. There was a private event going on that night so unfortunately we weren’t able to see the golden Buddha. Food-wise, it’s shareable plates. My thoughts are as follows: - Grilled Branzino - the Angel hair pasta that accompanied the fish was the unexpected standout of the night. Get this. - Duck salad: this was alright, I wish there was more dressing throughout the greens - Lobster roll: our waiter recommended this; it’s a warm, saucy mess but it’s good -Potstickers: standard fried dumplings; they come in four -Soy ginger pork ribs: good dish to split; the sauce is on the sweeter side - Spicy prawn noodles: I liked the texture of the noodles and there was a subtle hint of spice, but note the two prawns’ heads are still attached. Our group ended up not eating the prawns (that reflects our own laziness than the restaurant), but good to note for larger groups who might be awkward about sharing -Braised short rib: a bit disappointing; not as tender as I would’ve expected Service-wise, our waiter was nice but did not check in on us. We had to flag multiple people down to get water refills. We were also not given an order of truffle chips but were still charged (our group just paid it anyways). Credit cards are accepted and you can split the check multiple ways. Note that you have to take stairs down to get to the bathrooms, and there was always a long line. Overall, it’s a trendy restaurant and the building is pretty, but the food is of little substance. You’re paying for the views and the ambiance. Good for date nights/special occasions/when someone else is paying.

We loved this restaurant. Its beautiful and the food was very good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Made an online reservation for 8.15pm. We arrived at 7.30pm and the hostess told us they will only sit us at the time of our booking. Since Yamashiro was the only property in the area, there's nowhere else we can go. There was also no chairs for waiting. So we stood like idiots and waited... only to find out that the table reserved for us was empty all these while! Not sure what's the logic of this coz it completely blew my mind on how stupid and rigid they were. I understand if the restaurant was full, but it wasn't! That said, food was really good though. Server for our table was not too bright and was inefficient. Too much waiting for the dinner. Beautiful place but dumb people running it.

Japanese palace on top of the Hill. Definitely to come here for the atmosphere and view. We were seated outdoor with the nice sound of the water. The food was ok,the staff was fine.

We showed up just before our 8PM reservation and were asked to wait. We did, for 30 minutes, and were shown to a high top in a heavily trafficked area. Yamashiro was requesting visitors to wear masks; however there was no enforcement. We asked for a different table in less highly trafficked area and were told that "they had no idea when they could get us another table". We left. Total disappointment.

This place was a rare find. The ambiance can’t be beat (it overlooks LA’s skyline) and we were seated beside the gardens and that was lovely and decorated for Halloween. We had the pork dumplings and the short ribs. They may have been the best short ribs I’ve ever had. We ended the meal with their Yuzu and orange creme brûlée and a glass of port...it couldn’t have been better. I will definitely be back.

The place is unforgettable. Not only does it have a spectacular view of Los Angeles, the gardens are beautiful, the lighting is very special. I recommend going at night, and the food is delicious.

We had an early dinner reservation and our table was ready when we arrived. The two employees at the hostess stand were friendly and talkative towards us. We sat in the garden area. Our server, Jared F., made our entire experience a plus. He was funny, outgoing and on top of it customer service-wise. The food runners and bussers were attentive and we didn't lack in service. Prices are high. It's touristy. Our food was good but not out-of-this-world-good. We're glad we tried it and I don't have a bad thing to say about our particular experience. One of my fellow diners wondered if we would have had an equal experience if Jared F. hadn't been our server? He was very entertaining. We'll never know. We're going to leave on a high note. We ordered a number of menu items and the one item I want to call out as exceptionally good were the chicken wings on the appetizer menu. The skin was crispy. It wasn't chewy or fatty. The chicken was tender and juicy. They were covered in a good amount of sauce that was super tasty. Seems silly to call out this particular menu item but they were that good. Valet is available. Uber and Lyft can drop off at the door. No need to walk up the hill unless you want a little exercise before your meal. If you're visiting LA, I think it's worthy to add to your trip itinerary. If you only get to visit LA once in your life, well, maybe pass on it. There are many places to check out and it is pricey, hard to get to and there's nothing around it. It's a destination spot. If you do go, request Jared F.'s section.

I took my daughter and family for her birthday for their Sunday brunch. The views are almost worth the visit, but the service and food sub-par. The food was served buffet style. With the exception of the omelet station, the food was not fresh and barely room temperature. The Japanese food was OK, but the balance of the brunch well below average . After reading some other comments from people who also had the brunch, it is hard to reconcile our different opinions. Either my expectations were higher or they were there when the food was fresh. In any case, we will not return.

Came here to dinner with cousins and with my husband to celebrate his BDay… food is really good I don’t even know how to start!! My issue was with our waitress WOW! HORRIBLE!!! very RUDE everything was good when we arrived and she took first 2 orders of drinks and starter after she came back we needed more drinks and we ordered sushi she already had a change of NASTY MOOD!! She even told us can I take the me he’s away so you guys don’t dirty them and I said well we haven’t order our food yet so I was setting it aside I guess and she literally reached over me and grabbed it snatched it actually out of my hands before I even set it aside and she threw it on the other corner of the table!!! I really just kept my cool and ignored it. We asked for another round of drinks and they actually took like 20+ min to bring I was asking her why our drinks are taking so long and she said while walking away from me that we weren’t the only ones ordering drinks and that there was more than 1,000 orders this girl/waitress literally said that to me still while walking away from me!!! We asked for water and she brought a jar of water that SHE just slammed the jar on our table while speed walking I’m not even making this up if the Manager or who ever is in charge they should look at their cameras she slammed it so hard it made a loud bang noise I was shocked of how she was just so RUDE we asked for our check and she took like 20 min to pick up the check we wanted to leave so BAD FROM THERE I FELT LIKE NOT WANTED LIKE WE DIDNT BELONG THERE EVEN THOUGH WE SPEND OVER $700 for 4 people when she took the check she was speed walking by our table I had to get a little pound and call her out HELLO HERE YOU GO WE WANNA PAY TO GO HOME! SHE TOOK THE CHECK AND TOLD ME I DONT NEED YOUR MONEY!!!! LOL!!!!!! Snatched it and again raced away from us and at this point we all laughed bcz she told me I DONT NEED YOU MONEY BUT THEN SHE STILL TOOK IT AND CHARGED MY CARD!!!! LOL!! IDK WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS GIRL AFTER OR FIRST 20 minutes of being there

We came in this bar / restaurant as i use to come everytime when i am in holiday in Los Angeles. So the car was parked with the Valley. We wanted to have a drink and food so we ask for a table outside, a lot was empty. In the reception they said it was all reserved ( 2 hours later, still empty ). So we have a drink inside. After that we called a water in order to have the menu, one time, two Times, three times but nothing. We have waited a Long Time before we decided to go unfortunetely. I think it is a luck of respect. Last Time.

We came here for a romantic meal because we'd heard amazing things of the views, and the views did not disappoint. We had a stunning panoramic view of Los Angeles from here, and once the sun set (a spectacle in and of itself), the beauty only deepened. The restaurant also had lights strung about, which both added to the beauty and served a practical purpose, lighting our way around. The food was a bit less impressive, albeit still good. I had the hibachi pineapple fried rice, which was served in an actual pineapple - that was pretty cool, and it's hard to screw up fried rice. My husband's Ninja Roll was also pretty good, although he didn't think it merited the price it was charged. I wish this place offered a bigger variety of sushi - the vast majority of their rolls were seafood-based, which is completely fine, but we would've appreciated a couple of veggie rolls as well. The service was quite good, although our server sometimes looked like he wished he were elsewhere. All in all, this was a gorgeous experience, although I think it's best saved for special events.

Excellent Restaurant, visited here a few years ago when in LA and this time was with my son so decided to book again. Certainly, did not disappoint. Food was excellent as was the Service. Fantastic Views of LA from Hollywood Hills.

I have been wanting to eat here for a decade and I finally had the opportunity… That being said, things didn’t go as well as I had planned in the beginning but due to the diligence of a lovely manager, everything worked out great. We had a reservation for dinner that I booked through resy and requested a courtyard table for our anniversary. We pull up to the restaurant about 15 minutes before our scheduled time and the gentleman at the host stand told us to just wait inside the bar area and someone would come get us. We were just enjoying the view and another woman came by with a couple of people and asked if we had been helped yet and we said yes they told us they would come get us and she told us to go back to the host stand and someone will help us. Huh?? Back to the host stand we go and the guy said give me just a second and he came and got us with some menus. He took us right past the bar area at a low table and sat us there and I said I had made a request for the courtyard. He said let me go check and when he came back he said well we can’t really move you once we’ve sat you… And it is a Saturday night… My boyfriend chimed in with, well we haven’t actually been ‘sat’ yet and we requested a table in the courtyard. He takes us out to the courtyard and there are maybe four or five tables that are full. As we walked by a table near us we hear the women say that they’ve been sitting there for 15 minutes and nobody has even come by to bring them water…so we sat and waited…and waited. My boyfriend decided to turn on his stopwatch just to see how long this would take. There was a server at the table next to us and she was there taking their order and chitchatting with them, but she never even looked in our direction. Nobody who walked by us made any eye contact with us until about 12 minutes in, a busboy asked if we would like some water. I see all these busboys wandering around and servers talking to other tables around us and people delivering food but nobody looked at us. After 16 minutes we decided to leave and go get chicken elsewhere. My boyfriend decided to bring it to a manager‘s attention while I went to the bathroom. He spoke to a lovely guy named Billy who was extremely apologetic and wanted nothing more than to make it right for us if we were willing to stay. We agreed and we chose a table that overlooked the city and the patio and it was just gorgeous. He must have looked at my reservation because he brought out a bottle of champagne and said it looked like we were celebrating something… And added “here’s to new beginnings”. He offered to take care of our meal and we just had appetizers and a bottle of sake… Along with the champagne that he brought us. He brought us a special dessert of red velvet cupcakes which were the lightest things I have ever put in my mouth. I’d say that they redeemed themselves just because of Billy’s genuineness and compassion for the situation. He was really lovely and he went above and beyond for us and we didn’t take advantage of his kindness. This place is amazing at sunset with beautiful views of the city and the whole courtyard lights up and it’s just beautiful. I would probably return and give them another chance in the future, but I don’t live in the state so it’s not like I can just pop by there any weekend I’d like. I was disappointed in the beginning, but the food was really good and our server Emily was wonderful.

Yamashiro was a fabulous place to celebrate our daughter's wedding. There were 15 of us, so we had the prix fixe dinner, which was excellent. Service was excellent as well. Parking is by valet. Be sure to go before sunset, so that you can walk around the grounds to see the gorgeous landscape. The koi pond surrounding the restaurant is impressive.

Too many people saying the same thing: Haphazard food delivery – don’t expect to eat as a family its each man for themselves here if you mix hot and cold dishes. Waited for our table for 20 mins at the bar – couldn’t get served… Waited 30 mins for a glass of wine after being seated. Impersonal, cold, sparse and slow service but still the max tip request. Hugely expensive for mediocre dishes – the sushi was praised by my family though. You are just a cog in the machine and they don’t seem to cope or care. They did refund my main meal that came 10 mins before my family’s so got cold and then got reheated and then arrived back after they finished. Well done! I’d had enough of them by then and just wanted to go so we didn’t order desert. All in all a huge costly disappointment – but yes the view and gardens are nice. Maybe take a picnic and save $300!

I had the most incredible time at Yamashiro Hollywood. The ambiance is unmatched… romantic, cinematic, and somehow still so cozy. The service was so attentive without ever feeling rushed, and every dish tasted as beautiful as it looked. Fresh, flavorful, perfectly balanced. You can tell so much love goes into the menu. The cocktails were equally amazing, and the whole experience felt elevated without being pretentious. Between the stunning views, delicious food, and the overall atmosphere, Yamashiro is truly one of those LA spots that lives up to the hype. I’d come back in a heartbeat 🍣✨

Last night was our second time in Yamashiro. The food is very good..we tasted sushi sashimi and noodles. I'm sorry to say that we were close to the bar that is very noisy and the music in the restaurant was to loud for us and we couldn't have a quiet conversation. Better to choose a table in the inside garden. We'll be back soon

A lot of posturing by people to get the picture (the site and the views are nice, admittedly) do not justify the so exaggerated prices of the menu. There were 4, we ordered a tempura to share and 3 trays of sushi, we paid 30 euros per person and none were satisfied after the meal. It's a place to go if you want to show off, but not to eat well without paying for something exorbitant. Ah...... And don’t even think about going without reservation, that despite being an entire empty lounge they made us put ourselves in the bar.

We made a reservation on a whim, because we could see it from our hotel room. What a pleasant surprise! Delicious food. Great service. Beautiful views. A total spontaneous treat and much better than we expected.

A historic and colorful atmophere cannnot make up for good restauranting. They don't make it clear online and in the Resy confirmation that 2:30pm is a "Brunch" not regular menu and that you have to order within so many minutes before the kitchen closes for a few hours reopening at 5pm. Also even though we were one of the few tables being served, the kitchen didn't make sure the eggs benedict has hollandaise sauce. Also, its important that all the guests get the dishes they ordered, they didn't. Food quality was good thought the portions are small save for the biscuits and gravy chicken. Very spotty performance. The reason the Cheesecake Factory is so successful is that they can serve hundreds of tables and not make mistakes. Yamashiro's needs some of their management.

This place is EXTREMELY overrated. Don’t waste your time or money going here. The food is average at best. They charge you $15-20 to valet. Just basic…super average experience.

This restaurant exceeded all of my hopes and expectations. From the moment we sat down the staff was nothing but friendly and accommodating. The ambiance was beautiful and exactly what we were looking for. Food was 10 out of 10 and drinks were exceptional. Highly recommend, must see/eat restaurant in LA!!

I grew up here in LA and married my wife here yet it took til our 41st anniversary to try this iconic Hollywood Restaurant. Sited on a hill above the Magic Castle it has a great view from Santa Monica to downtown LA. We chose the garden area for seating for its quiet, warm, romantic Japanese ambiance. The menu has something for nearly every taste and they are very attentive to foid allergy concerns. The roast Brussel sprouts and beet-mushroom salad were great starters. I had the seabass and my wife the roast duck. Both were served with a modest assortment of very nice veggies. All in all a great meal.

Such a disappointment- great views over LA but zero for service from the car jockeys to the outside desk to the inside desk to the waiters … and 1 out of 10 for the food - boy was it bad: pasty salmon nigiri and stringy inedible asparagus and broccolini! The wine list needs a thorough revamping too - G&T was awful and the reds by the glass low quality. Will take the Griffith Observatory for the views and will never come here again!

Horrid service. Food is soso/average at best. View is amazing and the building is beautiful. However the prices do not equate the quality of service or food. I ate there for a special night and had to ask for water refills multiple times; the sake we ordered came after all the dishes arrived about an hour into the meal. I asked three people including our waitress where the sake was and always got an “it’s coming”. And the tempura was cold. Asked for a manager and left voicemails; no response or call backs. No attempt to make it right. Avoid this terribly run place. Sad - with new management it is a gorgeous setting and could be a great place.

I was excited to try brunch the place is beautiful I enjoyed the view. However I could not eat the prime rib it was too hard to cut with a butter knife and I asked the waiter for a steak knife. I never received a steak knife! Then I go back to the buffet area and there were no clean plates after a few minutes someone came out with wet plates. I went to Yamishiro expecting an upscale buffet setting but I left feeling like I should have gone to Golden Corral.

Pros: -Sushi -View of the city -Architecture and interior of building -can pay by card for valet service Cons: -Painfully slow service throughout. When you give your card to pay, I think it’s fairly reasonable to expect it back in a descent time, twenty minutes isn’t acceptable good service. -Food arrived at a good time, the rest of the time, we were just waiting. In and out the door after two hours. -our water bottle didn’t get topped up the entire time, it was empty 1 hour in. -no desert menu, not a big deal. Server told us what was on the menu. Ordered the strawberry short cake. Was basic at best, old school in presentation and budget of ingredients. When we got the bill and discovered it was $18, I was pretty offended that they think it’s okay to serve something so subpar for the price. I am happy to pay for great food and great service, but this place wasn’t it.

First, there's the view. Extraordinary but we can assume here that everything has been said. However, it must be said again. Patienting (a little) on the terrace is already an aperitif. Then there's the table. Start with the unavoidable tempura then different rolls: salmon-basil, shrimp, ... An explosion of flavors. chemically pure .... Finally there is dessert: I will recommend only one: salted honey tiramisu (yes, yes!) but we will have to go back to venture on other lines. It's no longer about exoticism but a trip to heaven And then there's service. Performance rarely achieved, we wait only reasonable time. Surely, behind the performance, there is the concern, quite American, of the rotation of the tables - although we have seen, next to us, a couple of Japanese lovers encrusted time to exhaust their repertoire of words of love- but nevertheless we can also appreciate the effectiveness. And kindness. Nothing prepared in this form of politeness, without obsequiousness. You don't get the feeling that the waiter plays every dish the thickness of the tip. Maybe the Japanese politeness. The double experience is definitely worth it PS: Obviously, there is the bill, but despite the fact that it is painful to the French, we can consider that the quality / price ratio is there. To do at least once in the stay

Yamashiro is committed to customer service, and the food is spectacular. My daughter loves it. She recently chose it for her birthday. highly recommended

The food in this restaurant was 10/10 however the service left a lot to be desired, our server did not check on us once, when we wanted to order drinks we had to get a bus boy to get the servers attention, we were left with dirty dinner plates for 30 mins after we finished eating at this point we requested the bill which had an additional 2 main courses on it ( I might add they were two of the more expensive ones too), This was the first time in the states I was tempted to leave no tip (I of course did tip at 18%) as the service was so so poor the only saving grace was the quality of the food was so good.

View is stunning, naturally but what surprised me was the quality of the food. Excellent - truely thank you

We enjoyed a lovely dinner with friends for our anniversary. The food was outstanding, the staff was amazing and the view....to die for!!

Restaurant attracts tourists. My son's dish arrived in 5 minutes, before ours, he ate on his own. We asked for the chef's choice small boat at 200 dollars, crap! Really low end food. The boat was served and my husband had to get the plates and chopsticks from the table next to it. Realy bad service too.

Some friends who live in California took us to this place. We booked a table outside for 6pm and were able to enjoy the fantastic view of Los Angeles from the very first lights of the evening to enjoying the city lit up in the dark. Breath-taking view. Very well-kept environment inside too, with a Japanese garden. Historic structure, attentive service. Average food for a good Japanese restaurant. Excellent drinks. Perfect if you're not looking for a cheap place.

Unlimited Mimosas were true, they kept them coming for both myself and the wife. A sensational atmosphere overlooking the city, unfortunately the skies were semi foggy and very overcast, otherwise it would of been very special. Overall the food was very good with a decent selection. All the usual breakfast items, plus Eggs Benedict, home made omelettes, tasty crisp bacon, excellent sausage. There was an outstanding selection of sushi, and they had lox, however without the bagel, only muffins. They had cream cheese but no sliced onions, tomatoes, or capers, certainly plain Jane. The shrimp were big and looked good, although had absolutely no taste, must of been farm raised? The Tri Tip was delicious, but I was surprised no mash potatoes or gravy, then again this was a oriental restaurant and might not be part of their theme? A good selection of deserts. All and all a fun brunch and will return.

This restaurant is in a beautiful building. The environment is wonderful. The welcome is fine, but they always make you wait for your table, even if you booked. The food is really average. It is the same sushi you get for a fraction of the price anywhere else, but they mark it up a lot as it’s a nice place. Doesn’t seem entirely unreasonable, but if they made the food good I would be happy to pay double.

If you want to book a table and still wait 50 minutes for it, that’s the place. The food it’s pricey and average. Waited 20 minutes to pay the bill. Do not recommend if you are looking for a nice dinner out

Tourist to Los Angeles we went to check the indication of this place, which fits well for tourists, as it has a magnificent view of the city. The space is huge and has several open air spaces, private rooms and a beautiful indoor and outdoor garden. Prices make jus at the restaurant level, but the food nothing special. 3 Sapporo beers and 1 bottle 300ml traditional sachet, 1 snack, 3 baked sweet potatoes, 1 serving of Brussels cabbage, a serving of ribs.

We completely loved it! The food was great... and the location... was just amazing... even the uphill drive is very scenic...

This place does not disappoint. While it has been a number of years since we visited Yamashiro, and learned that they have done some renovations since then, I had some reservations about this iconic establishment. Well, if anything it became even better. The ambiance of the place is very similar what I remembered, but a bit more edgier with some modern design features. Being Saturday night it was very busy, yet we had the full attention of the hostess who listened to our seating request and after just a few minutes waiting provided us with the perfect table. Kudos... The menu became somewhat shorter then I recall, instead of the original book of endless pages of sushi selections, we were presented a clean and well strucured double sided sheet with what the kitchen had to offer. For me personally less is more, perfect. We ended up with a selection of sushi plates, with all kinds of fantastic flavour combinations. Delicious. In fact so good, that at the end we decided to skip dessert and ordered another plate of the fresh salmon and citrus roll :)... Sitting by the window sipping cocktails, sampling fine sushi, watching the LA sunset from above is a true bless. Special thanks to the staff, our hostess and especially Jared our waiter, who went above and beyond to make this a truly special experience. As Arnie says "I'll be back! "

Had a great brunch yesterday with my hubby and daughter yesterday and had a great time. The mimosas kept coming, the food was fantastic and the view was beautiful. We will definitely be back.

I moved away from California over 10 years ago and have not been to Yamashiro for several years. Our server was fantastic and I love all the changes and updates to the decor! The new outdoor area and renovated gardens were amazing! I do miss the filet that I used to order. We ordered several items and shared with the whole table and most of it was quite good. Unfortunately, the crispy duck was not crispy. That said, I will definitely be returning the next time I am in LA, I just won't order the duck. :)

Wonderful place and atmosphere. The food is overpriced but not that blown away. There were a few dishes that stood out namely the miso black cod and spicy tuna roll -- but everything else was just okay. Service was terrific.

Everything they say about the view and building is true. Great place for a meal and conversation overlooking the city in a unique and historic landmark. Service was friendly and competent. Tables were well spaced so it was easy to enjoy conversation without having to yell. Key to enjoyment is knowing the sushi is just ok neither extraordinary nor vast in selection. More there to fit the decor. Maybe have a roll for a table side. The entries are what you want to order - spare ribs being they best that we ordered! Desserts were a great finish, with banana spring rolls being a unique and tasty treat.

I read the reviews of Yamashiro and I found some of them to be a bit unjust. The views from this restaurant are spectacular. If you come just before sundown, you get the best of both worlds, the soaring skyline and the twinkling lights. Almost all the seats offer great views even if you aren't right up next to the window. The tables around the garden area are also lovely - I would just ask to not be in the aisles that leads to the restroom or else you may have people walking past you all night. Yes, the food was expensive ! But it was ample. We had vegetable tempura and the shrimp appetizer first and both were enough for our group of 4.I had the salmon on mashed potatoes and it was very large and good - I couldn't even finish it. The service was friendly and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. This is a great date or special occasion restaurant. Overall great experience.

Fast Food - nice view - but no good Japanese food - no wine service - unfriendly reception - unfriendly bar - cheap tasting cocktails - it’s just a tourist nap place - really a shame!

This restaurant used to be very popular, when the waitress was nice and fast. And the food was fresh and delicious. It’s seems like they lost hope for the place. Nothing is the same. Even the taste of the salmon is different. I still enjoy to go there, but only when my friends from out of USA come over to visit. The hot dishes are really good, worth ordering. And the view it’s amazing. Unfortunately it’s not the same....

I have been to Yamashiro many times, but this time ut was great. Friendly staff. Great food and the beautiful view after a rain is a must see. Picture perfect views of la...

Not sure why I haven’t been here before since I’ve lived in LA all my life. I know it’s touristy and not cheap but it’s a very beautiful restaurant with great views and a menu with some great dishes. I would definitely go back with anyone visiting LA but instead go there before sunset so we could enjoys the views. We went when it was nighttime so could really see much but the Hollywood and LA lights. Made a reservation and was immediately seated. The waitress was very friendly and the food came out pretty quickly without it being too overwhelming on our table. Miso black cod yakitori - the fish was cooked perfectly. Sweet and creamy and good portion. Classic ceviche- very nice presentation served with wonton chips. Good fresh light appetizer Garlic noodles added shrimp - this was the disappointment. It wasn’t served hot and was just ok. Nothing great nothing bad. Braised short rib - it definitely fell off the bone no knife was needed just a fork. It was so tasty and we even had leftovers to take home. White dragon sushi - this was super delicious. I know $24 for sushi roll but it what you would expect from this type of restaurant.

View is awesome! Sushi was terrible. It’s not better than Sams club premade sushi. Probably American can’t tell how it was bad. I have enjoyed the raw fish in Japan and Korea. Trust me. Just order a beer and edamame. That’s it. And enjoy the view. I spent $150 for two and that is a cost for the view. Additional $13 vallet parking plus tips. If you really want to have a high quality sushi, check the chef first.

Having read many of these reviews prior to going, I have to say, this restaurant is more than a tourist trap. Our group of 4 had a variety of items and we had no complaints, and the bartender and the server both gave top-notch service. The price-point is high because you're paying for the view, we spent our first evening in Hollywood here and don't regret it!

What can I say. This place is and always has been amazing. 15 years ago I went there. I came back this year and its still amazing. The food delicious, the staff brilliant and the view outstanding!!!!

The worst sushi in L.A. Drinks are amazing the food is tourist trap prices with low quality. AVOID AT ALL COST.

ABSOLUTELY WORST SERVICE!!!! My friends and I visited the hookah lounge and it was my first time as I was visiting from another country and my god….first of all we had a reservation and it took them 40 minutes to seat us because they were waiting for the hostess to come seat us at our table but she was nowhere to be found. It took so long that security was even wondering what was happening and why we weren’t seated. We finally get to our table which they sat us allllll the way in the back corner where we could see NOTHING. Why is that even a table? Our only view was the DJs bag and half of the DJ. The belly dancer and drummers completely ignored our table because we were seated in such an isolated area our View was the bathroom door. Our server (wish I got her name but she had curly hair) took down our order and wasn’t seen again for another 1.5 hours. She never brought us our hookah when we asked for something so simple. We got so irritated that we kept asking each waiter that walked by if they could get us one because our waitress decided to cater to larger groups for more tips of course and completely ignored us. We asked FOUR DIFFERENT WAITERS for ONE HOOKAH and not a SINGLE one of them could bring it????? Imagine if we ordered food. We would have to wait 5 business days to receive it. Finally I lashed out to one waiter and explained our whole situation and our waitress saw how heated we were that she came over and offered us a bottle of WATER on the house. Water….no reallly you shouldn’t have🙄. Like no honey go elsewhere with your poor service. One waiter felt so bad for us he brought us an extra hookah on the house (a more realistic offer) which still didn’t cover the fact that 2 hours went by with absolutely nothing but it was whatever. We hated our experience and highly recommend that people do not go there. Had a friend experience the same thing last week but I assumed it was because she went on the weekend during a busy time but no they’re simply terrible waiters who cater to a certain crowd of people for obvious reasons and ignore the rest of you. Btw the place wasn’t busy or full at all. They were simply ignoring us. The only reason this place got a 1 star is only because they had good music but the service would be in the negatives for me. Terrible terrible terrible

What is not to like at Yamashiro? Super yummy Japanese / fusion (adapted to local clientele) dishes. There is literally something for everyone. All we tasted (and we ate a lot) was really good. Nice original cocktails selection - they all look stunning. Good service and the cherry on top: absolutely amazing city views from the Hollywood Hill. It is truly a wow factor I will be back again and again

The hostess group was extremely rude and borderline aggressive. The manager was especially hostile and I’m shocked she’s allowed to work in service. Not worth the overpriced sushi.

We went on Super Bowl weekend Friday, so the place was totally booked. It's expensive but elegant. We both ate steak and it was melt in your mouth good. Not into sushi so can't comment on that. Creme brulee dessert was very good as was the coconut shrimp appetizer. Beautfiul setting. Go just before sunset so you can see it while daylight and with nightime lights too.

Not a good experience. Our first vist since 2014 - extensions to get more covers but a definite decrease in quality and cleanliness with careless mistakes and a lack of attention to detail. The bar was very dirty - yet we were asked to wait and have cocktails there. Our table was unbelievably dirty - arms and hands sticking to it …. Staff helped themselves to beer and drank it in front of us while we were waiting to be acknowledged and order taken. Cheap wooden throwaway chopsticks for 135$ 14 piece sashimi….. the view is amazing but that was it for us. Bitterly disappointed by the lack of overall experience and detail…

Came to Yamashiro's for a birthday celebration with girlfriends on a Saturday afternoon. We had their brunch menu (with mimosas) and it was delicious! Food was great and service was amazing. Very tentative staff, not to mention the scenic location. It's tucked away on a hill, overlooking Hollywood and parts of LA. Very private location, away from the crowds. Would make a very romantic day date and and even more romantic evening date. Highly recommend trying this place.

Mind blowingly bad service - went tonight for my 40th birthday celebration - we’re visiting from the UK & had reserved an outdoor table weeks ago. When we arrived we were told to wait 10 mins for our table which was no problem we got a text to say it was ready. We were taken to an indoor table right at the back - we could see the view but not what we were expecting & kind of defeated the object of going there! My friend asked if we could move & was told it would be an hours wait so we stayed put. Our waiter was nice greeted me with a happy birthday (which now knowing what was to come actually makes me feel worse!) left us some menus & then disappeared for so long we actually went to the bar to order our own drinks - finally came to take our order for food. Food came out fairly quickly but was just bad - the tempura shrimp was tasteless, the peppers inedible & the white dragon sushi super bland. Our tacos never came. Waiter came back after we’d finished eating to offer desert we said we’d just take the check but to take off the tacos - he said oh yeah they weren’t available - no apologies just like oh well. Left us the card machine to work out for ourselves and never saw him again! Literally worst restaurant experience and birthday meal ever :-(

Yamashiro was an absolutely amazing building to see LA from - amazing views, wonderfully and traditionally decorated in Japanese style. The drinks were also incredible, but the food was a bit sub par and very highly priced. I would absolutely love to come here again for just cocktails at the pagoda bar, but most likely wouldn’t eat here again. My two friends felt the same way. Furthermore, we made a reservation and were not brought to our table until 45 minutes after our scheduled time (which has never happened to me before). We are all food travelers and usually pay a lot of mind to the ratings of restaurants on sites like TripAdvisor; however, this time we chose to ignore them in order to see this place. All in all, go somewhere else to eat, then come here after for drinks and sights!

Don’t write many reviews but almost didn’t go here because of the rash of negative reviews. Perhaps my expectations were lowered but we found the food above average the service not stellar but also not horrible (thus 4 stars and not 5). Traffic and parking are crazy about 10 minute wait to get our car on a Saturday night at 9pm. The views are great and it’s not super expensive. Recommend.

This historic restaurant and gardens was the perfect spot to celebrate our anniversary! The spectacular views and beautiful Japanese gardens and buildings were so special. Our appetizers and entrées were outstanding and the service was perfect. A professional photographer even stopped at our table to take our photo ! Yes of course you have to pay, but she brought us 4 framed photos to choose from and all were well done! We purchased 2 and were so happy to have a wonderful memory of our Anniversary dinner in the frame marked with Yamashiro’s logo.

Get ready it is a long review. We decided to celebrate my husband's birthday at Yamashiro. Our experience was horrible. We ordered 2 vegetarian meals, one was "mushroom steak", which in reality was just 2 steamed medium sized portobello mushrooms and a few steamed veggies on the side with unflavored rice. The 2nd meal was fried rice which was supposed to be served inside a pineapple (that was the reason we ordered it) based on the description on their MENU and online site. We received just regular fried rice with chunks of pineapple in it. It tasted ok, but not for the price. We complained to our waitress about the false advertisement in their menu to which she didn't have much explanation, just said that they are not serving it in pineapple anymore... I guess this high class restaurant didn't want to spend money on updating the menu and their site. The worst part was when my husband was eating RICE he almost swallowed A PIECE OF METAL!!! This was so unacceptable. We called the waitress immediately and complained about it. The piece of metal was sharp and could've damaged my husband's organs if he swallowed it. She took it from us, apologized and replaced the rice with noodles. When they eventually brought the noodles, they dropped off the plate and didn't even bring utensils. At that point we had enough with the service and food issues, so I had to walk to the front and ask for a manager. A young girl introduced herself as a manager. I explained to her our terrible experience so far and asked how can she make it better for my husband as it was his Birthday. She apologized and told me she'll get him a desert (specific cake with ice cream) and it would be on her, she asked if I want it to be a surprise for him, I told her "that would be nice", then she followed me to my husband and asked him what flavor for the desert he prefers?! (so much for the surprise, right?). He told her which one he wanted. Then we waited for a while and no desert was presented to us. A waitress stopped by and gave us a dessert menu and told us to choose which we wanted and it would be on her. We of course didn't order from the menu as we expected the specific cake promised to us from the manager. After waiting for a while we didn't receive anything. But the waitress brought our check. Where to our surprise we had to pay for the whole meal (excluding the rice). I had to go to the front AGAIN to speak to a manager. I told her that we never received the cake she promised, to which she responded that we refused to get a desert from the menu which the waitress brought to us earlier. I explained her that we refused because she told us she'll bring a specific cake and we didn't need multiple deserts. She appeared to be clueless to what I was saying. Apparently she was very forgetful that day. At the end I had to fight with her over our bill. The once great Yamashiro is clearly no more. We can now only think of great experiences from years past (pre pandemic) and know that we won't be coming back to this place ever again.

Fab experience with running views. Tasty cocktails and really attentive service. We had a great table overlooking downtown LA, great way to start our holiday!

this is the worst welcome we have received in los angeles until today. we had reserved a table at 9.15pm. when we arrived, a hostess who barely glanced at us parked us in a small room with about fifteen other people, telling us to wait. I asked her if we could have a drink at the bar while waiting, the answer was no. after 10 minutes I asked when we would have our table. another hostess who didn't look at me either, answered me in 20 or 30 minutes. still standing in a small room with about twenty people. We left and had dinner at Ysabel. excellent address that we recommend. nothing to do with this pretentious and uninteresting yamashiro.

One of the main places I wanted to try while visiting LA was Yamashiro. It has been on my list for a while. The first night I arrived, I made it my missions to go. It was fairly simple to make reservations online, although they were about 15 minutes behind schedule. There was a mishap with the seating and I had to wait an additional few minutes, but once seated, the view and ambiance took over. The place is very nice and watching the sun set in the distance is something I’d highly recommend. To start with, my wife and I ordered the popcorn shrimp. By far one of the best shrimp dishes I’ve had anywhere. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but it exceeding my expectations. After that I ordered a Malibu sushi roll, which was also one of the best I’ve ever had. Once I was done with my roll, we ordered a Filet Mignon & Pineapple yakitori and a Chicken Negima yakitori. I really like the Filet Mignon, the chicken didn’t really blow me away, but it was still good. Overall, I would recommend this place for sure. I’m a little sad that I don’t live closer as I could see myself coming here frequently.

Upon arrival you simply are simply in awe of how beautiful this setting this is. If hill top dining is your thing, Yamashiro proudly states it's 605f up. The views are exceptional! However, this was and remains the only exceptional experience of the whole evening. Upon arrival you are checked in and told to wait in what can only be described as a 'Holding pen for disgruntled customers'!!! We were fortunate to be taken to our table quickly, however my fellow guests were less so. The waiter told us there's 750 capacity in the restaurant (yeah, it definitely shows mate. Seen shorter queues in LAX) FOOD We ordered the tempura shrimp to share with 36oz wagyu Tomahawk as a main. Although a measly portion (3) the shrimp were good they do add some fried veggies to pad out the plate, but those were well cooked too. Unfortunately there are BIG issues with the steak. 1. It is not 36oz...not even close (stop conning your customers) 2. The steak was dry with little crust (see pic) 3. The product itself was devoid of taste. 4. DONT ORDER IT! SERVICE This is probably the most disappointing aspect of the venue. There's clearly not enough waiting staff and a glance at the larger tables en route to the restroom you can see nothing but a sea of people with strained necks hoping to catch a glance of their table staff lifeboat and order something.....anything!!! When we asked our waiter if we could substitute our roasts for mash (despite being the same price) we were told: "No, we charge for any extras." We need not have bothered because the roasts were (rather like the rest of the food here) average. Those from the UK expecting 'proper roasties' will be VERY disappointed. After waiting an age for my drink, my flat coke (served out of a dispenser may I add) arrived which tasted disgusting so sent it back....only to be served the same bubbleless coke. (Again) I called the waiter over and told them, I didn't want a respeat experience and to take it off the bill. I drowned my sorrows with a glass of Clos Pegase Merlot instead which really is very good. ($16) All in all Yamashiro is bang average! Dining is much more that 'insta brigage' looking for social media clout! The food and service just isn't very good. It's The 'Robbie Savage' of Restaurants and I won't be going back, EVER! P.S Before I forget - I suggest Yamashiro stops being a bunch of Shylock's and buy bottled coke! Thanks,

Sushi 5/5 View of LA 5/5 Hospitality 5/5 Ambience 5/5 Will definitely return here next time I am in Cali. Highly recommend Yamashiro sushi roll! Special shout out to Emily, my server. Her demeanour contributed to my positive experience.

This is a must if you are planning to visit LA. Gorgeous views, saw both the sunset and the moonrise when we were there. Food is very good. Service was very slow. BUT its an experience not to be missed. A hint, If you want the best table with amazing views, book your reservation early. We had a 6:15 reservation ( I normally book 7:30 ish) but because we wanted the experience to watch the sunset over LA, we booked early which turned out to be what you would need to do if you want a table overlooking LA. There is also an inside area by a beautiful koi pond which was serene and romantic, if you don't care about the beautiful views. Also I booked a cool travelzoo $100 voucher for $65 which was zero issue with the staff. And my emails directly with the hotel were promptly answered. Highly recommend while in the Hollywood area!

We’re regulars here and I can’t imagine loving another place than this. Yamashiro has become a staple in our family and we come here at least once a month. From the moment you pull up, the valet is extremely friendly and careful, the reception staff is equally welcoming but the real magic comes when you are seated. The amazing waiters and waitresses know the menu and recommend the absolute most perfect dishes for you. To top it all off, the manager, Casey, will have you leaving feeling like family. This place is the epitome of a customer service in every sense of the word.

We were told about this hidden gem by friends and it defiently didn’t disappoint! We had a delightful dinner overlooking the city of LA! Beautiful spot up in the hills. Wonderful and friendly staff who were very accommodating. Made great recommendations for what to order and the food was to die for!! Loved the popcorn shrimp and we shared the A5 wagyu (wow) defiently worth trying! Melt in your mouth!! Can’t wait to come back again!!

I went here on a Saturday with three friends of mine when visiting LA. Riding up was really windy and narrow, but that's expected if you're wanting fine-dining in LA on top of a mountain. Parking was Valet only which honestly was a relief considering i'm not from here and was worried about where to park. Valet was $10 and they do accept card. You walk up a slight hill into the Restaurant looking over the beautiful city. I didn't like the fact you basically cut thru people dining to even get to the hostess, that was a bit odd. &You don't really even know where to go considering no ones standing at the top of the hill so you just keep walking hoping for the best. We made reservations so that made it easy, they did take our temperature with a thermometer on the wall which i thought was clever. They had plexie glass separating guests from the tables behind or in front of you which was nice. Heaters all around for outside dining, which is where we sat. Service was great. Cocktails were $16 or $17 fairly priced. My friend ordered us some guac and plantain chips which did taste good but was way over priced. &We also got brussel sprouts which were okay, i wouldn't recommend. I ordered the grilled marrow which I was excited for but i wish it was cut differently than it was. It didn't really have as much taste as I was hoping for. The bruschetta bread was so hard I thought I was going to chip my braces. My friend also ordered the spicy miso which hontestly was a pretty big portion and he said it was tastey. For entrees I got the Yamashiro roll, my friend got the pineapple fried rice (which he did not even touch and took home), with added shrimp which were some decent sized shrimp, and my other friend got the braised short rib, i was between that and the roll. The roll was so tasty. The Wagu beef on top made such a difference, never had that on a sushi roll before. The short rib was beyond soft I was able to tear it with chop sticks, but in all honesty for the price I was expecting much more taste. It could have been a really delicious entree if it didn't just taste like meat. Service was really good, our waitress would keep checking n us making sure we were okay and removing extra plates bc the tables were pretty small. But when it was time for the check she did disappear per lol After dinner (since we sat outside) i wanted to look around a bit. They had some stairs that took you around a bit, and a big budda which was really cool. The landscape of the whole area was just breath taking. Since we sat outside and went inside to use the restroom it was a whole different scenery inside! I felt like I was at a club with a lady handing out tissue and soap waiting for a tip in the bathroom. The atmosphere of the whole restaurant was just gorgeous. It was over priced for sure but you're paying mostly for the view, not so much the food. I wish we took more time to look around after or before dinner, or even checked out the little bar set up/area they had.

I discovered this on the recommendation of a friend. A month later when I was in town with my husband we took him there. Weekends are busier than midweek so be sure to get a reservation. The food is divine, fresh and well presented. Combined over the two meals (4 people each time) we've had several different selections of sushi roles, sea bass, vegetable tempura, soy and ginger pork ribs, salmon, the pork rib lollipop and duck salad. My husband ordered fried rice and it was served on a half pineapple that was really the whole half (not carved out.) Delicious. After we returned to Kansas City my husband said "I want to go back again." The desert menu isn't online but ask for it. Whatever they served with fruit and creme fresh had everyone raving. Worth the trip. It's up the hill behind the Magic castle. It felt odd trying to find it but stay on the winding street and it will end at the valet. Weeknights are manageable, weekends are jam packed. We got lucky and got a reservation when someone cancelled.

We recently held a memorial, celebrating the life of a loved family member at Yamashiro and the experience was nothing short of amazing! This restaurant has great food, beautiful views and a very welcoming atmosphere so they don't need to negotiate prices. However, our party was on a budget and to our very pleasant surprise, the manager worked with us to fit the evening into our limited budget. The service was outstanding and the food, well, I'm repeating myself but, again, absolutely amazing! Some establishments are willing to work within people's budgets, but the food and service level tends to reflect the lower pricing but that was NOT the case here: We were treated as if we were the only people in attendance that evening. The occasion was bitter/sweet because we lost a loved one but, by the end of the evening, we felt as if we had spent the evening at a family member's house and we will NEVER forget this evening, on many levels. Thank you, Yamashiro, for making our evening extra special for everyone in our party!

Went to Yamashiro to celebrate my daughter's high school graduation. It was a beautiful night, and we were all dressed up to celebrate. We ordered food and my wife ordered a Mai Tai. The Mai Tai and one of our food items (crispy rice) never showed up. I eventually flagged down our waitress Laura A. She apologized for items not showing up and we eventually got them. Our dinner was over, and Laura stood at our table collecting our bill, not giving us time to review the bill. After leaving the restaurant I had a chance to look at the bill and realized that they charged us for 2 crispy rice. One might think that a restaurant might even offer to give us a free crispy rice because they forgot to give it to us but not Yamashiro and Laura A. Not only was it not free (I wasn't expecting it to be free) but they charged me for 2 crispy rice and we only received one. I called the next day and the lady told me yes we received your email and receipt, and the manager will get back to you today. It's been a week, and nobody has called. It's unfortunate that we were over charged and ruined a great experience. This place has NO CLASS. We spent almost $300.00 and we left hungry. The food wasn't very good and Laura A. never came around to give us more water during our meal. And, when giving us our electronic bill on their tablet they forced us to a minimum of 22% tip. I never asked for anything FREE, I just don't want to be charged for something I never ordered or received. I will never return to Yamashiro's and obviously Yamashiro's can care less. All this because they won't refund me $28.00. Terrible way to treat customers. My advice, go to Yamashiro get a drink, order an appetizer, enjoy the view, then go to In-N-Out so you can get some real food!

Wow! Great view, great service, and great sushi. We had the large Sushi boat. It was some of the best Sushi I have ever had. A must if in LA.

Enjoyable meal at this lively hill top restaurant. It’s a big place with lots of different seating areas. We took a cab and enjoyed a few drinks and a lovely selection of dishes. Great views and food better than expected and not as expensive considering the scale / draw of the place. Would recommend if visiting Hollywood.

The best sushi I have ever had! Really good food. Amazing view and very nice service too. It was worth every dollar.

Atmosphere was great, food was amazing. Staging is f the meal was deplorable. One of our party of four received their entree a full 42 minutes before our sushi boat showed up.

Obviously expensive because of the quality of food and ambiance, but seems worth it for special occasions. The location and Japanese architecture/garden truly set this place apart.

Dining at Yamashiro's was a notable event from beginning to end. With the sensational Hollywood Hills view and sunset, we sat at our high-top table sipping delicious cocktails. The Kabayahsi cocktail is unique and refreshing with notes of hibiscus and ginger. Our service was impeccable but not hovering. The Yellow Dragon Roll was fresh, complex and delicious as was the Hamachi Mango roll. The food at Yamashiro's is inventive and beautiful as well. I highly recommend taking out-of-town guests as the vistas are stunning, the people-watching is very Hollywood and entertaining but the food is center stage.

The place deserves it. The view is spectacular especially at sunset. Well attended. Sushi top. Cocktails a bit anonymous, I would put a bit of classics on the list. Friendly service. If I lived in L.A., I'd go one night a week.

Came here to meet family & were blown away by the view! Service was great but the table needed wiping down & we waited, despite a reservation and plenty of open tables. It looked like there were plenty of waitstaff. Valet parking was twelve dollars with no other option but that. Ordered $28 chicken breast, $14 garlic noodles, & $20 shrimp, among other things. The chicken was tough & dry, the noodles were spicy (which was not indicated on the menu), and there were only 4 shrimp on the plate. Flat water was free but sparkling was ten bucks! Diet Coke was five for a glass. Everyone left still very hungry and we ate when we got back to the room. For that kind of money I expect to be taking home a doggie bag and raving over the taste, amount, and presentation. Unimpressed and would not recommend.

The mandatory valet stole my portable charger and charging cable. Pretty upset about it. Came here with my bf to celebrate our anniversary and when we got home we realize that our charger was stolen. I know it was stolen because i never took it into the restaurant and left it in the car. How rude, so much for a "nice" restaurant. Can't even trust the employees there.

An experience and place you should visit in LA. Not only because of the Views, the Mood, the Night over LA City.. the Food is Normal and the Service Attentive. A place where you should not miss if you are in the city of Angeleno. Valet parking Service. They took almost 30m to give us the table we had reserved at 21:45 but while we enjoyed a cocktail in the bar with views.

If you’re bringing a date make sure you don’t have a visual taste for Japanese architecture cuz you will be starting at everything but your date. The location is amazing with friendly staff waiting to help. All around good experience, a late lunch or dinners are both awesome and with that view it’s top tier dining! I have been back multiple times to enjoy the sights and savory dishes that Yamashiro has to offer!

Went to this restaurant for my sons 21st birthday whilst in LA, first they brought over his starter which he finished on his own then my main course half way through my main they brought out my starter then his side dish after 20min he got his main course, when I complained they told me the dishes are served in no particular order, what a joke!!!!! In all the years that I have dined in restaurants I have never experienced this. Food was mediocre, when I asked for the bill they had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to leave a tip, needless to say I respectfully declined. There are much nicer restaurants in LA, don’t waste your money in this one.

I came here a month ago already. great atmosphere, the place is just beautiful, we got the table by the window ... the view was amazing . THANKS TO THE MANAGER NADER so friendly and Jordan !

This Hollywood has-been used to be a favorite spot, but is certainly off the current list. While most restaurants at this price level offer good service, good food and perhaps a memorable view, only the last box can be checked off for this place. Unfortunately, it used to be much better. Pricing now is exorbitant for the lack of quality and mediocre food. In short, the view is great, but other than that, this place is like a coffee shop on the top of the hill, in terms of service and food.

Amazing view, amazing food. Let down by the terrible service. Table booked for 7:15 and then made to wait over 45 minutes for our table to be ready. Service absolutely terrible. Took over 45 minutes to take our order then saw the waitress once after this. Several items not available on the menu and we were only told this after trying to order it. Restraunt charges for the location but not worth it due to the terrible service.

We returned after a few years The views are still amazing and some good people watching too. The food was good if not as amazing as I remember for the cost - the sushi being less flavourful for instance and the cocktails not as curated nor tasty - one was distinctly green and heavy handed syrups - worth it for the view vs the food now

It’s a beautiful experience and everyone should go at least once. The view is stunning, the food is great. Strangely the wait for a table was long even on a weeknight even though we had a reservation and we weren’t the only ones. It was stranger because there were some empty tables. My guess is that there were less serving staff. Ask for recommendations if you’re not sure what to order. We loved the sashimi, dragon roll and yes they have kid options too though it’s not listed on the menu.

Absolutely amazing! Almost aspect of this restaurant is beautiful and worth it, except the valet. Also, if you ever go, ask for Cecil because he is the best! Items we ordered and what we rate them: - white dragon sushi roll: 8, tuna flavor is amazing - wagyu steak: 9, good flavor and sauces, but should come with a little more - garlic steak noodles: 9, SO good and flavorful - calamari appetizer: 10, taste and quality are great - truffle fries: 7, can’t taste the truffle at all, kind of basic - espresso martini: 4, didn’t enjoy - honeybuck mule: 10, really good Only major con was that you have to pay $15 for valet, but don’t have a choice to use the valet or not. Seems free until the end when they ask you to pay for it. The views of this place, the staff, the atmosphere are a complete 10/10. Chef Val and her staff know what they’re doing. Great for any type of event, or no event at all and just a random visit.

My husband and I came with two very good friends to celebrate a birthday and what an excellent idea that was! The four of us all ordered a different kind of sushi roll and all of them were excellent. Each was prepared perfectly and was beautifully presented. Our server was prompt, professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. He was always available, but never obtrusive. The atmosphere was also fantastic—quiet, peaceful, and serene. We were seated in an open area surrounding a beautiful Japanese garden. It was a wonderful evening and we’llAn ideal place for a celebration, a gathering place for friends, or a romantic evening with a special someone.

While the location, views and facility are wonderful, I expected a little better from the kitchen, it’s branded Asian Fusion by the waitress, we expected an authentic Japanese. So we ordered as Japanese as possible (not sushi), one of the items was chicken meatball with egg yolk, a favorite of mine at a yakatori place in Noge, Yokohama…the meatballs were rather large and full of non-chicken things served with a sweet sauce. The miso soup was perfect, duck soba also very nice, seaweed salad I would say was better than when we’ve had it before, dumplings were so-so, the texture was softer than expected. Carafe of hot sake was good, second bottle never arrived, we packed it in at that point.

Yamashiro, perched atop Hollywood, offers stunning views and delectable Asian cuisine. Their sushi boat, a standout dish, combines fresh ingredients with expert craftsmanship, delivering a culinary experience that's both visually impressive and deliciously satisfying. Perfect for a memorable dining experience with a breathtaking backdrop of the Hollywood skyline.

Probably the most expensive sushi we’ve ever eaten, but far from the best quality. The food was great, but didn’t seem aligned to the pricing having eaten out at so many Japanese restaurants all over the world over the years. It was quite out of our usual budget for one dinner, but my work colleagues had given us money for this exact dinner as a wedding gift to use on our honeymoon to make it a night to remember. However, you are definitely paying for the atmosphere and views which were in fact fantastic. The restaurant itself was stunning, but we were delighted to be sat outdoors overlooking Los Angeles. I specifically booked our table just before sunset so we could view in the daytime, see a gorgeous sunset, and then the night skyline. If you’re after a beautiful setting with good food that you don’t mind splurging a little extra on, then this is the place to be. However, if you are looking for more authentic Japanese food and sushi and not fussed about the views, there seem to be better priced local spots elsewhere. Glad we went, and made for a memorable evening. However, probably wouldn’t be back to eat there on our next trip to LA.

Family of six. We walked up from Hollywood BLVD (wouldnt recomemd this, but it was fun, that road is way longer and steeper than it looks) nice drink stand right inside waiting area. Got our drinks and were seated immeduately (had reservations) very qiuck attentive serve. Staff was moving, friendly and fun. Atmosphere is great. We werent sure what to order so we ordered 4 starters and 8 different dinners and everyone shared. Wasnt anything anyone didnt like. Food was hot and looked amazing. Incredible views. Perfect dinner night out and the walk down the mountain was way easier than going up. Highly recomend.

I came here for Dinner (didn’t know it was a surprise party in my honor haha) and the food and atmosphere is amazing. I had the shrimp that was wrapped in bacon and the Beeler Farms Belly-On Pork Handle and I was stuffed plus their Old Fashioned was really good. Expect to spend around $150-200 for two people and that’s with appetizers, entree and drinks. Great place for a fancy night out or with friends.

I planned as part of a vacation itinerary with my family to visit for dinner this week. Atmosphere was great and unique. View was spectacular. Food was good, and we enjoyed the sushi as our appetizer the most. Upon being seated our waiter explained that there are several kitchens and because of that food may not come out all together rather as it is completed. We were fine with that. My son’s pasta dishes came out, and within a few minutes my husband’s fish. The server checked in with me (and the kitchen) as my chicken had not arrived. Unfortunately, the chicken did not make it to the table before everyone else was about finished. I cancelled my order and I was really disappointed I was not able to share dining on my main entree with my family. However, I am going to give a lot of credit to the server, Carlos, and his manager for trying to salvage the experience for me. They offered me my meal on the house in a carry out container as well as desserts which my kids happily accepted. The server also brought out a little piece of cake for my husbands upcoming birthday this weekend. My family shared the chicken in our hotel room later that night and it was great even cold! I am not sure what happened to delay the chicken, but my guess is a longer prep time that might merit a note on the menu for future diners. While my experience was not the best or what I expected, if I ever have the opportunity I think I would go back to give the restaurant another shot and would definitely recommend others going there for everything it has to offer.

Beautiful oriental restaurant on the top of a large hill above Hollywood walk of fame - with a MOST Stunning view of the city and hills of Hollywood! Lovely gardens to walk through! The bartenders were exceptional! Such creative details and delicious drinks! Atmosphere here is AMAZINGLY IMPRESSIVE! LOVE THIS PLACE!

Breaks my heart to say this but it’s become so bad. I used to loved yamashiro for the amazing vibe and aesthetics. Went the other day to pick up my order in person just cause i missed the vibe so much. Waited 45 mins for sushi and it wasnt even fresh, in fact some of the nigiri were downright nasty and smelled. So sad... Covid killed this spot

Yamashiro was recommended to us by the concierge at our hotel when we were looking for a place with a view. Located in the hollywood hills, it did indeed offer a lovely view, as well a nice atmosphere with the japanese courtyard/garden. Better than that was the great service and outstanding food. Among the best sushi we've ever had. Certainly a special occasion place or simply a place to go and treat yourself. It was definitely a highlight of our visit to Los Angeles. If we make it back to LA, we will certainly go again!

Booked a 6.30 slot, arrived early and the lovely front of house staff directed us to the bar where we had exceptional cocktails; Japanese Gin and tonics and a Silk Whisper - see photo, served by helpful and professional bar stuff. We took them outside to take in the fabulous views. Reception buzzed us when our table was ready and we were seated outside, as requested. We ordered Yellowtail Serrano Sashimi, Sushi, Jumbo Shrimp Tempura and Calamari, everything was great apart from the the Shrimp Tempura which was soggy and uncooked, we told the server and they removed it from the table and the bill, if it hadn’t been for this I would have given Yamashiro 5/5; we had a lovely evening and the views were as wonderful as they were last time I was here 30 Yers ago.

With reservations on a saturday night, this place was completely booked. Ambience, service, slection of wines and saki, and finally . . . every dish we tried was amazing. We sat by the garden and we were pleased with the Japanese musician gengleman performing.

We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We reserved a table through Open Table and requested a window seat. We didn't get a window seat and were seated right near the bar area. The room was very noisy and loud. We ordered drinks and the waiter took forever to bring them. The spring rolls were fried and not that great, but the salmon sushi was delicious as well as the short ribs. We have celebrated our anniversary here several times and usually they bring us a small piece of cake or dessert. This was not the case on our visit this time.

We went here for our anniversary. It's Hollywood so of course it was pricey, but hey --- an anniversary comes only once per year. After winding our way up the hill (well-marked with signs pointing the way to the restaurant), there was valet parking ($10 plus tip when we left), and we walked up a short gradual slope to the restaurant. There were lenty of signs telling us to wear masks, so I was sueprised that we had to traverse half the outdoor seating before getting to the desk where we checked in for our reservation. We went on a Wednesday evening so we really had a choice of where to sit: in a sheltered garden area with plexiglass anti-covid berriers between tables, on an outdoor terrace with similar barriers between tables, or at taller tables (with plenty of space between each), with higher chairs. These tables were at and near the edge of the terrace, with umbrellas and a railing. As we are tall anyway, we didn't mind the higher chairs, because they gave us a great view of Hollywood, Westwood, and beyond, as well as a terrific sunset. The place was well lit with thousands of small lights, and there were good heaters that kept the evening chill in check. We were very comfortable although the outdoor temperature was in the high 50s. The staff was friendly and attentive. Our waitress told us of the evening's specials and gave us suggestions. Since it was our anniversary they provided 2 complimentary flutes of champagne as well as an extra dessert with candles. I should add that we had a Groupon but we discovered it had expired 2 days previously... But they graciously honored it anyway. The food, ambiance, and service were all very fine, and we plan to return on another special occasion sometime soon.

This is the ultimate tourist trap to be avoided at all costs. Honestly it is cringeworthy awful. The food, dumplings were tepid warm and pasty. The salmon rolls were barely bite sized for children. Tempura shrimp was a fried heart attack in a tasteless beer batter on a mound of tempura veg that was devoid of taste, presentation and probably nutrition. Sushi pizza. Oh what a mistake to order. The name should have been enough. Calamari is hard to mess up but again overloaded with tasteless beer batter and a mound of tempura peppers which we asked not to be included. Asked could we charge a phone. No. Asked for cup three times, Could we sit inside as it was chilly. No in spite of a dozen or more empty ones. What's your wifi password. "We don't have one its only for staff" Garlic shrimp sushi roll was white on white on a mush of liquid and not edible. The diet coke was flat. Not 10 feet away a maintenance man tools askew was working throughout on fake flowers or lights. We were at a four table at the entrance to the deck but with five we had to push three onto one side of the table to avoid being bumped by every customer and staff going past. Not comfortable. Service was based on get them in, get them out and charge as much as possible . Exorbitant prices by any standard for very mediocre and downright bad food. The location drew us but it was tacky, with peeling paint on handrails, a damaged Bhudda statue, garbage and broken fence below the main deck. Zero effort at customer service with the exception of the valet parker who helped retrive sweaters from the car for us. Our worst LA experience and we ,two adults 3 children, paid almost $500 for the "privilege" Don't waste your time or money.

Absolutely! Dine at this magnificent Japanese restaurant that is very high in the Hollywood Hills. Make reservations to be seated in the outdoor courtyard , with shoji screens and the like, surrounding a beautiful Japanese garden, otherwise you will be seated indoors. After dinner, stroll through the romantic winding pathways of the huge Japanese garden in front of the restaurant. There is literally a 180° breath-taking view of the Hollywood lights, if you go at night. I had read that a portion of the restaurant was even in the filming of " Memoirs of a Geisha" and a few other films. Check out the website. Parking might be limited at times. I believe you can also be shuttled in.

Maybe we got lucky , on an average Tuesday night, but unlike recent reviews the service was great. The maitre d’ and the staff worked hard to get us the table we wanted and followed up, service was prompt across the board, food and other table service arrived on time. Some courses were outstanding (charred octopus with farro, truffle noodles), wine list was reasonable, although the sushi was surprisingly bland and the lobster sushi was overpowered by being drowned in onion shavings. But we had a good evening & every high top & most outside tables were taken. provided you steer clear of the $200 and upwards sushi boats it’s a reasonably priced restaurant in a spectacular setting.

The place have a great history the sushi was reasonable and the service was good I didn’t feel that I have to dress up to be there enjoy a night with friends we had selection of nigiri and sushi rolls flavours was good the view at night magical

Fantastic venue with wonderful views. Great service. Food was lovely but didn’t really have that “wow” factor. Overall a pleasant experience.

This used to be our spot for some sushi and drinks before descending down the hill to party in Hollywood, but the prices have just gone insane. Still, if you can afford it, or budget for just some drinks and/or appetizers, it's well worth checking out the garden and enjoying the experience. Check out the history online before you go to make the most out of your visit. - In 2012 the Yamashiro Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places. including "nine contributing buildings, sites, and structures on the estate property."

The setting is certainly historic it has over 100 years of history and service is excellent. My biggest problem is the quality and value of food here half of our dishes were just plain bad for instance the eel avocado roll did NOT have any eels in it! The spider roll was good though and food here is expensive with 20 dollar mandatory valet

Amazing experience!! We were seated as soon as we arrived. Service was terrific and everything we ordered, from drinks to apps to sushi, entrees, and desserts was delicious. Best of all was the view and vibe. Would definitely recommend and would come back next time we're in LA.

Food was some of the best quality we have ever had. Location, views and history are off the chart. If walls could talk! Special experience.

The setting of this restaurant is spectacular! We walked up from the Walk of Fame - it took around 30 minutes as is a steep climb with kids but felt we had earned our sushi by the time we arrived. The photo opportunities in the little garden are wonderful. We ordered 4 plates of sushi and some noodles to share - all delicious.

Hilltop restaurant over looking LA. Food was delicious - very eye 👁 pleasing & tummy super happy. Staff very attentive.

I went here for my birthday with a group of ten teachers. Everyone left happy and enjoyed their meals and cocktails. We had a variety of dishes ranging from sushi to salmon to the burger. All of them were good. The mai tais were tasty too. Our server, Alex G., was so patient with us. We asked a lot of questions about the menu and he was very informative. He brought out a nice little lemon cake at the end of the meal in honor of my birthday. It was a little difficult getting an Uber afterwards. The drivers cannot pull up so you have to meet them down the hill a bit. The view is stunning. It's worth going just for the view alone.

Great venue , great vibe inside however its on the expensive side , your looking at $200+ for a 3 course meal with a couple of drinks inc tip Food was excellent , views great but I think the venue is reserved for special occasions due to the costs Didn't eat in the garden had a great view in the main seating area Bartenders were very good and attentive We would return when in LA again

Very pricy for mediocre food. It is not bad food but your average outback restaurant is better. We expected more give the prices. I guess you pay a lot for the view. That is very nice. Unfortunately we were seated inside. Prices are about one and two star restaurant, so that would raises expectations.

It's a really beautiful place. They have this secret garden and stunning views to DWTLA. Everything we ordered was delicious. Service is correct. I'll visit it again.

Terrible food and chaotic service. Starters arrived 10 minutes apart and when the second one came it was so overcooked it was inedible. Mains were equally bad and overall the whole meal was overpriced for what was at best bar food quality. I totally get the views so go there for a drink and then leave.

The most amazing view in LA! Food is slightly overpriced but great quality, Yamashiro never fails you. Always looking forward to dining over there!

On top of the most scenic hills with the Hollywood area. Great views, beautiful gardens. The food is average

For a spectacular view and an atmosphere that is chic, Yamashiro is Unmatched! This destination is perfect for that special occasion.

We got there when they opened to be sure we caught the sunset over the city. The grounds are beautiful. We also had some beautiful drinks. The food was great. I asked them to turn the music down and they did. Our waiter was attentive and not intrusive. It was a lovely evening in an incredible setting

It’s a great spot but clearly a machine. Service is equivocal because they get so many people it’s not possible to give attention to any one table. Food is good but overpriced, not worth the location. Walk up for the view and get dinner elsewhere.

Our sixth stay in LA - Yamishiro is a must every time. The service & food was great. Pricing is as expected for a great experience. The post covid upgrades & Improvements to the gardens & the outdoor space is fabulous. Best views of LA also. It's a must for visitors & locals.

Restaurant which is especially worth it for the view and the setting. The view is fabulous. It's wow! The food is good. Toro sushi hmmm a treat! Not a bad choice too. Something to please everyone. Where the bottom hurts is the rest. Already paying for parking to go to the restaurant... uh? In addition with valet, while the cars are parked 2m away. Oh well. Then the restaurant wants to be upscale. The prices are, but not the details. The chopsticks are single use like in any sushi shop down the street. The presentations are not always elaborate and the containers are not always suitable (for the Banana Split tempura: the cup wobbles on the plate). We had a great time but considering the price a little more attention to detail would enhance the experience.

A group of 8. Really beautiful place. Food was very good and service was fine. Why not a perfect score? The table location was so dark with no source of lighting until halfway through the dinner and our request. They told us that our orders would not come at the same time because different areas in the kitchen but one person in our party received their food almost 15 minutes before any of the rest of us received anything. Really not OK. For the cost of eating there, this was not acceptable. I tried for days to reach the restaurant on the phone not for making a reservation but for another item. Could never reach a person. I tried all different times of day. Could not leave a message or a callback. We almost all felt a return visit would not happen.

I requested a birthday cake for my wife, and the waiter brought out a very small portion of cheesecake with a tiny candle on top. Meanwhile, another guest celebrating an event received a much larger, nicer cake. When a customer clearly mentions multiple times that the cake is important and that the dinner is meant to celebrate a special occasion, the staff should take that request seriously. Even if the cake comes with an extra charge, most people celebrating a meaningful event won’t mind—it’s about making the moment memorable. The Caesar salad was made with kale and was overly salty. The other dishes were average. However, the view is spectacular and makes it worth visiting the restaurant at least once.

Worth th experience. Service/ staff was awesome, very attentive n helpful. Food was good. View was amazing. Very nice for a special occasion

I have come to this establishment before and after Covid and I have to say as regulars, both the food and service are consistently Amazing! We’ve dined in most of the rooms both inside and out and every time it’s been 5 Star service and quality Cuisine. We had Quinton this time as our server he was wonderful but having said that every server we’ve had there has been been great. The views are unbeatable in Hollywood the most gorgeous panoramic views no matter where you sit apart from the inside garden which is still beautiful . I highly Recommend this restaurant .

I want to express my deep gratitude to Bach from Reception Team❤️❤️❤️ The real professional who helped us to solve the issue with additional seats in restaurant in a very short time! Dear Bach, let me say one more time Thank you very much!!! This dinner is very important for us. It’s our last dinner in LA and tomorrow our group will leave the USA. You let us to spend this very special time together! I wish you all the best!!! Thank you so much!

We came here as a friends meet up, recommended by one of the friends in the group. The food was well presented but as far as taste it was not worth the hype. This spot is purely just a place for the views and atmosphere. This is one of those spots that’s its about the views and atmosphere but not about the food.

Brought a friend for his birthday. After touring the surrounding Zen gardens overlooking Hollywood, we were ushered to an intimate corner (Table 108) with views of Hollywood, DTLA, and Griffith Park Observatory on all sides. What a perfect setting! The menu had a wide range of choices and prices, but ultimately the sensitive service brought down the house. Many, many thanks to Alisa and Kenzie, our servers!

I went here for dinner and the service was impeccable. The waitress helped us get a seat we wanted of the view and accommodated our baby in a car seat who joined us. Also my wife arranged for a birthday cake that was unexpected. All the waiters and waitresses we dealt with where super friendly. The location was a drive up the hill which is quite entertaining arriving at the front. Food was expensive but it was very filling and delicious. Very memorable experience.

A single lane winding road takes you up a hilltop whereupon Yamashiro sits. Very cool view, great interior design. We ordered the "Small Boat" of Chef’s selection of 8 piece sashimi, 12-piece nigiri, 2 rolls. See the pic. Very nicely presented! But very so-so quality and flavor. The sashimi was the best quality and flavor. Not much to rave or complain about. Visit for the view.

Perched above the Hollywood and LA scene with unparalleled views. This is the classic gem that you wonder how it could have been created. Food , either typical American, or Sushi , is all very solid , as is the wait staff . On a clear day or night this place is insanely special … but it would hold its own even in the more common haze . Not to be missed !!

I went to this restaurant up in the hills of Hollywood that I have heard about for years. The view is awesome and the garden is nice outside but it's small, not what I was told it would be like. The restaurant is nice and you can come with friends or family and talk with out worrying about being to loud. The food is good but the menu is small. I don't recommend the duck. My son and his girlfriend both got very sick ☹️😷 from it. I ordered the Sea Bass 😁 and it was awesome 👌. The appetizers were great. If you are around the area you need to go at least once. You won't regret it 😉.

The food is good, not spectacular. However, it has such a spectacular setting it's worth a visit and more than once. It's perched up on a hill overlooking the city. You go through the winding roads and neighborhoods that are typical throughout the general Hollywood Hills area. It's a replica of a Japanese Palace and workers were brought in from Japan to help recreate it over 100 years ago. The restaurant sits on several acres. There are gardens to walk around before you step into the restaurant. There is an internal Japanese garden with tables surrounding it. Go before sunset to have a great view of the city. Have a nice dinner and then step out to see the city at night with all the lights. You won't regret it.

Can you say OVERPRICED, INATTENTIVE and the FOOD - NOT GREAT. We dined there on 12/24/21 for dinner. We asked to dine indoors and were seated promptly indoors, but the roof was OPEN and it was absolutely freezing (even with heaters around us). The waiter eventually came to us for our order with his mask falling down his nose which he had to keep on adjusting. He took our order and that was the last time we saw him until we ask him for our check. Other waiters brought us our food and I have to tell you that the mixed tempura that we ordered came mushy. I ordered branzino with noodles and the fish was very salty with some type of seasoning and it was very difficult to eat (left a very bad taste in my mouth. My husband ordered lamp chops and they looked scrawny. Also when the wait staff took items off of our table they just yanked it off. This restaurant used to be a wonderful restaurant to have a celebration at - NOT ANYMORE IF YOU WANT JUST A VIEW AND DRINKS GO THERE - BUT IF YOU WANT FOOD TRY ANOTHER RESTAURANT

High atop a hill overlooking Hollywood, the former mansion was converted to a public restaurant about sixty years ago, Very sexy. Serving Japanese food and great drinks. Feels almost like a Hollywood movie set. Views to the ocean. Valet parking. A "must do" for locals and tourists.

Awesome food and service.. however I made a reservation a month in advance and we didn't get a " view " table but all else was wonderful

Make reservations 30 minutes before sunset so you can see the city in daylight, dusk and night views. And if you go early, walk around the restaurant's view areas. The food is good, solid and yummy, but nothing special - a solid 3.5 stars. The service is casual & friendly - 4 stars. The view and the ambiance - 4 stars. It's a bit pricey, but it's part of LA's history. It's valet-only parking. Also, it's not high-end dining, but high-view prices. You might be able to find a Groupon for midweek dining. Like 71Above, it's a view restaurant with solid food, but you don't go for the food, you go for the view.

Yes it is expensive but you pay what you get. Best view of LA, great venue inside and outside, great service, great food!!!! 5 stars!!!

Wonderful location, breathtaking LA view, great sushi, excellent, attentive service. We made reservations and requested outside seating with view. When we arrived we were offered the best possible table along the rail. It turned out to be more windy and a chilly than we anticipated, so we apologized and requested to be moved. Within a couple of minutes we were shown to a great table in the inner courtyard which was perfect, with a beautiful Japanese garden in the center. Outstanding service! Food was great. Quite expensive but to be expected. Highly recommended as a unique great Hollywood experience.

Fantastic views! Great food! Nice wait staff. However there were two mixups with our order. One a kitchen error. The other a waiter error. But quickly fixed. Fast service. We would go back.

Went with co-workers/friends for sushi and we were NOT disappointed. Delicious food and great service. The Spider, Malibu, Red Dragon, and Buddha rolls are now highly recommended. Starters Spring Rolls, Shrimp Dumplings, and Shrimp Tempura were excellent as well! It is a little tricky to get up the hill to the restaurant. If you take Uber or Lyft, tip your driver well! Well worth the adventure!

I really recommend everyone this place because it's amazing . First - there amazing food , amazing stuff and amazing place , you can see nice view and have a good time . And if you like old Japanese style you must go there because it's really wonderful building, you can feel there Japan ))) I really enjoyed there😉

This place has an amazing building, a great view of the city and is located above Hollywood. There is valet parking and if you arrive early, you can get a seat by the window to watch the city lights come on. Be prepared as they are presently having manager/staffing issues. The night we went, the manager was having to be the bartender. The kitchen was having issues. The hot meals came out 25 minutes ahead of the rest of the table and they were waiting for cold dishes. Portions are very small and you will find that the quality is more chain-restaurant quality.

The property has 2 new chefs and everything was amazing. We hosted a large brunch and the oyster bar along with the custom made sushi to order was a great touch. The champagne flowed all day super VIP experience

I left here thoroughly disgusted. The meal for two was $160 with one cocktail and one soft drink. The tempura shrimp appetizer had a very fishy unusual taste. The spring roll was delightful but a very small portion. The filet mignon with pineapple what's delicious with three sauces, but unfortunately only had four very small cubes of meat. All four would have fit on one fork to produce a single bite. The rock shrimp was the only dish that was inspired and very well done an ample portioned. I'm not even going to go through the rest of the dishes. For $160 we should have at least been full. When we left, we went to Wendy's. Seriously. Service was indifferent and made errors. Disgusted at the waste of money and time.

Food and drinks were very good. What wasn't good was the service. Very mediocre for the price. Plus, entrees came out 5 minutes after apps. A HUGE no no for me.

So glad I picked Yamashiro Hollywood as the restaurant to have a meal for my birthday. I was spending my birthday on holiday in LA for the 1st time and so wanted to do something a little special for once, and I hit the jackpot with this restaurant everyone was very polite and professional the whole time I was dining, I had made it know when making my reservation I was diabetic, so when I was handed the dessert menu I was also told of a diabetic option for me. View of LA was the best I could hope for I had chosen a time to dine so I could watch the Sunset while enjoying a truly great meal, The food was truly 11/10 I will definitely be coming here again on my next trip to California, and with out question I would recommend Yamashiro to anyone for a great time.
Great view, hostess was a little rude
The views here are unbeatable. The entire atmosphere is stunning. Definitely hard to get to when driving and even walking up the hill. Our only issue was the hostess. She was not very friendly and welcoming. This could be because we were too young girls and the rest of the diners were older couples and gentlemen. She didn’t see this where we requested and even when we asked to move she did not let us. She sat older couples in the area we want to be seated in but still did not let us go there. It kind of ruin the experience. However the wait staff was incredible and the food was amazing. Highly recommend The burger for those who do not like fish. And the pineapple Fried rice was beautiful and delicious!
