Best ramen bowls

By Margaret M |

My friend and I seem to gravitate here whenever we visit the convention center, since its right across the street. They have wonderful teas and great ramen bowls. I love the shashito pepper appetizer! Its a great choice for vegans, vegetarians and carnivores too.

Good ramen

By Artie Kay |

Never had wet ramen before. The offering was flavorful and filling. Tongatsu had a complexity of flavors and textures.

Looking forward to a better meal next time!

Was staying in downtown Philly and looking for quick lunch in Chinatown - this was literally one of the first restaurants I walked past and decided to give it a try. It was late in the afternoon (thankfully they remain open throughout the day) and the place was pretty empty. The service was good and prompt and the place looked promising with decor and art. The menu looked pretty extensive too - I ordered the green salad and curry ramen. The salad was ordinary and I liked the texture and width of the ramen (straight and thin, not too chewy) but the curry sauce was too watery and not flavorful. The place looks very promising and I will try another ramen type (or a non-ramen dish) the next time I'm in town.

Classy ramen place in Chinatown

Excellent meal of ramen here. Pork, chicken, and vegetarian options available. Sushi served too. Try the shaved-ice desserts.

Oily water

By SuzanneGarber |

Two couples went here on Christmas day. It was not busy and we got a booth in the back. The service was friendly but we had a long wait for our food. For appetizers, we ordered edamame, squid rings, gyoza and a sushi roll. All were adequate although the squid rings were overly processed and flavorless. When our bowls of ramen arrived, two out of the four were pleased; two were not. The ones that were appreciated were the curry and the spicy ramen. I got the vegetarian and another person got the tonkotsu--both lacked flavor and tasted like oily water. There should have been sauces offered to give us additional flavor. The food was hit or miss for our party and we had wished we'd gone elsewhere.

Happy hour 4-6:30

By Anna |

Me and 7 friends came here for happy hour and had the greatest time. Our server Jenny was the best. We will definitely be back!

It's ramen...the price...really?

By Mak684 |

I went to try out ramen because I wanted to see if it was good. Unfortunately, it was not for the price. It was okay, but my ramen ended up becoming almost $15 just to have a few meats and veggies.

Good choice

The sushi was so fresh, I should have slapped it! Delicious! We all enjoyed the ramen dish. The staff was very kind and gave my son a birthday dessert and sang to him.

Excellent!

Excellent broth and pork. Generous portion of noodles, enough for hearty appetites. Service was polite and quick, awesome staff.

A Reasonable Amount of Salt

By Luna-Kay |

I've only had ramen at a ramen restaurant once before and it was unbelievably salty. Drinking the broth was not even an option to consider. But Yamitsuki's was delicious! If there even was salt, it was just the right amount. The presentation was cute, too! The regular-sized bowl was plenty for me.

Always delicious!

By Michelle T |

We come here every time we're in town! The ramen is thin and done to perfection. The tonkotsu broth is rich and full of flavor. But the best part is the welcoming staff and how willing they are to teach costumers about Japanese culture and cuisine! Can't wait to come back again next time!!!

Delicious!

By Leigh424 |

We went here after visiting the flower show. Great atmosphere, nice staff. We had eggplant buns for an appetizer that we're so light and airy and flavorful. We all had ramen - my was flavored with herbs, another was curry and another wasabi. Absolutely delicious! A lot of vegetarian options. An extensive menu of sushi and teas also. Highly recommend.

A frequent stop when visiting Philly

By Beth B |

My fiancée and I stop here nearly every chance we get when close to Chinatown. The staff are gracious and attentive. The atmosphere is comfortable and warm -- exactly what you want from a place serving a comfort food like ramen. I recommend the miso ramen, as I probably could drink the broth straight. The eggplant buns are light ("ish" being fried eggplant) and delicious. And another must: matcha shaved ice.

Excellent Ramen for a Cold Night

By AlanNNFM |

Decided to try Yamitsuki based on other reviews, and I had a hankering for ramen. The menu had plenty of types of ramen to choose from and several different add-ons if you want to mix it up a bit. I had the miso pork ramen - it was well-prepared with plenty of noodles and a delicious miso-based broth. I didn't have to wait very long to be served, and the wait staff was attentive and polite. They are readily available to answer questions if you have any (the menu can be intimidating if you don't know ramen). I paired my meal with some iced starwberry green tea, which was refreshing and delicious. I like the quirky touches the restaurant added to the meal, such as the laboratory beaker water glasses and giving me the check folded into a Japanese manga book. Fun! It's a tad expensive, but the food was great and I was downtown, so not really a deal breaker (total check for me was around 18 bucks after tip).

Excellent food

By hugobene |

Nice Ramen restaurant. Fast service, clean place and delicious food. We took a Ramen and Gyoza: just perfectly cooked and very tasty. The draft beer was also fresh and perfectly served. And all this for little money 5*

Fine ramen!

By TipperNC |

Enjoyed my ramen here at Yamitsuki. I had what they called the chashu ramen, which had large chunks of both lean chicken and fatty pork in a tonkatsu broth. Very tasty. I also added the chili paste for some punch and that really made it delicious. Paired with an ice cold Sapporo I was very happy. I sat at the bar as a solo diner and was served well. I would go back for sure.

Delicious broth and good service

By MrSilva |

Stopped in for a quick lunch. The ramen was absolutely delicious. Beverage options very limited. Pot of tea was served with what I think was a tea light holder - enough to hold one sip of tea at a time. Trying to be hip for no good reason.

Amazing food with lots of vegetarian options

By Kittenploof |

We were in Philadelphia for PAX unplugged. We wanted ramen and Yamitsuki did not disappoint. The food is amazing. So good, that we came back a second time! Our first visit we had ramen, our second visit sushi. Everything was perfect! As a vegetarian I was pleasantly pleased by all of the vegetarian options on the menu! We will definitely be back the next time we are in town for PAX unplugged.

Great Japanese food near Reading Terminal Market

By Daniel H |

I was in Philly on business and was ready for something different than the cheese steaks and crowds at Reading Terminal Market. I stumbled upon Yamitsuki a block or so away. Yamitsuki appears to specialize in ramen but offers a variety of Japanese dishes. I had the katsu curry and a mango smoothie and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was great. I liked that they shout out greetings in Japanese. It reminded me of some of the restaurants in Japan! If you like Japanese food, I think Yamitsuki is worth a try.

New to Ramen

By iSpy71322 |

The place is a cozy spot for a quick bite. I’ve never tried Ramen before but now I’m interested in trying more. I got the spicy pork Ramen and it had a nice and thick broth base. The pork was juicy and tender. The place is nicely decorated with a small bar. Will come again. Oh yes... the peach blossom tea is refreshing !

Perfect Meal for a Cold Day

By QuackerzDaTraveler |

My fiancé and I visited for lunch. He got the Yamitsuki Ramen with Jasmine Green Tea. I got the Curry Tonkotsu with a blueberry Mojito. The chicken and white rice was perfect. The curry sauce wasn’t too spicy. My mojito complemented my meal. My fiancé said his Ramen was perfect but he was quite stuffed after and enjoyed his Jasmine green tea. Staff was friendly and attentive. Our server was just perfect and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. An added bonus is the Chinese New Year parade was going on and one of the dragons came in the store. Wish I grabbed a shot 😩

Good, fast, inexpensive

By jaz79h |

Came here for a late lunch, after Franklin Institute. Both of us got basic ramen dishes--one pork broth, one chicken. Delicious. Lots of noodles. Fast, friendly service. Lovely list of teas and saki, although we didn't indulge this time. Decor is simple, but inviting. CASH ONLY (at least the day we were there).

Really liked it

By BWEsq |

I ate here after arriving in Philly for a business trip at the Hilton next door. I was looking for somewhere close to my hotel that had good reviews. This place was about a half a block away from the door of my hotel and had a good online presence. I sat in the lobby for a few minutes and ordered my food on their website. I then went to ask how long it would be and they were super friendly about it, asked me if I'd like to wait at the bar. I sat at the bar and had a cocktail while I waited. It's a clean, modern space. I only waited about 10 minutes overall for my food. I got the buns (chicken), seaweed salad and a shrimp roll. Everything was really good. I particularly enjoyed the buns, they were delicious! I would definitely return here if I ever found myself in the same neighborhood again.

Yum, yum and more yum!!

By Erica S |

My daughter was over the moon when we found this place in Chinatown. She loves ramen and this place didn't disappoint. She loved the ramen and the oolong boba (bubble tea). She loved that the ramen was "authentic" and came with the egg and fish cake. We never had the bubble tea before and watching them make it was very neat. In the front of the restaurant they have an Iron Man robot but what is incredible is that it is made out of paper and cardboard. Would definitely recommend. Food was super delish, and the service was warm and friendly!

Fantastic flavors

By Andrea L |

Absolutely delicious! Ate here while attending a conference at the convention center, its close by and an easy walk. They have lots of vegetation options. I had the eggplant bun to start, oh my gosh, so good!!!!! Then I had the vegetarian ramen Japanese curry which was also wonderful. Everything was fresh and the flavors were wonderful. The ramen noodle was really nice. Also great service there!

I enjoyed it a good amount!!

By Josh D |

I have been at Temple University for almost two years now and one my major goals was to have some heated greens and also to find a ramen person!! Heated greens is a code for something that gets my mood up and makes me laugh at anything but I believe it is illegal for me to say it’s actual name on TripAdvisor!! I got it from my roommate but he eats pop tarts and chicken nuggets and so I needed a person with a refined palate!! I signed up for a food class and low and behold I met someone who also loves ramen!! I went with her for dinner and some people may have assumed that we were lovebirds but I do not have any interest in dating and also lovebirds are actually a type of parrot!! We went as friends and I thought the ramen was good but it wasn’t as good as NYC ramen!! I thought the broth was sort of bland but I added some chili garlic oil which enhanced the flavor!! The noodles also didn’t hold on to the broth well and the pork was sort of dry!! I am not becoming negative but some people have told me I should actually critique the food!! I still enjoyed it and it was only 12 dollars!!

Great find!

By travelmom |

What a great find! We appreciated the comfortable outdoor seating. We tried 2 varieties of ramen and some sushi, all delicious. The service was friendly and prompt. We would definitely visit again if in the area.

Nice ramen shop in China Town

By J Person |

After a heavy lunch, we were looking for a lighter dinner, and Yamitsuki was a great choice. Stark, modern décor, with a long bar on one side, and a sushi bar on the other . We sat towards the back in a large wood booth. The menu is fairly straightforward, with sushi and ramen options. We started with a sake maki roll, follow by a maguro tataki. The roll was nice sized, and the tataki was served with a bunch of vegetables in a bowl. The ramen options allow for pork broth, chicken broth and vegan broth. I had the Spicy Chicken Shio, with Japanese sea salt and pickled ginger, was very spicy broth, but delicious. The regular size bowl, at $10, was filling. There are various add-ons, and the special vegetable was kimchi, nicely done. The Chicken Shoyu ramen had nori in it, also very good. The Vegan options were tasty--the Wasabi Shoyu was not that spicy, and the Yuzu Shio was tasty. Try the ice for dessert! I liked the Taro Ice, in particular, with some sweet fruits. The Matcha Ice was less sweet, but very flavorful. $6 each, and we all shared them. This is BYOB for dinner. There is a beer place not far away. So, for five people: two appetizers, five bowls of ramen, two desserts and one spicy lemon ginger tea, just under $90 before tip. Not bad. I would go back.

Great happy hour specials

Right across from conference center, we came back 3 times. Good sized servings, amazing ramen and sushi. Friendly service.

Looked different, close to hotel

By Kimberlyaeb |

My son and I stopped in here for a light meal. It was convenient to our hotel and we had never tried ramen before. Much to our surprise we loved it!! We shared chicken and eggplant rolls very flavorful and the crunchy eggplant made for great texture. We both had ginger chicken ramen. Delicious. With so many food choices I. Just a few blocks only the best places are going to go the distance. The service was great! We will be back!!

Excellent food at very fair price

By Steve Lewis |

The decoration is nice, bring a nice soft atmosphere. The menu is made of ramen and rolls. The food is really tasty coming in decent quantity. The price is really decent considering the quality of service, food taste and neat decoration

Nice discovery

By Anna P |

Exceptional Ramen and sushi in addition to expectations. Nice place in the Chinese Quarter of Philadelphia, with pop music background, perfect for a meal with friends. Friendly and welcoming staff. Good prices too, considering that we are in the USA. Highly recommended.

A must go restaurant!

By Khloud M |

Love the decorations, food, and services. I'd definitely try it again! I like the themes that they use according to the Japanese Mangas! I went there when the theme was Naruto haha! It was awesome! Also I like be how they use beakers to serve water :)

Good rolls, ok ramen

By em-2115 |

Their rolls were excellent! I had one with tempura shrimp and cooked eel on the top, and it had the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The service was also friendly and prompt. However, their ramen soup base and noodles were a bit bland. Overall, I'd come here again, but not for the ramen.

Friday Dinner

By Sjt64 |

Came here when in the area. Very nondescript store front location but staff was friendly and attentive. Volcano roll was favorite item although the Pork Ramen was delicious too. Less successful was the sashimi platter (small cuts, decent but fresh fish). Tobiko was initially served in a cucumber but transferred to seaweed upon request. Not a glamorous ambience but All in all was a good meal.

Mediocre at best

By breadl |

Forgettable bowl of ramen, nothing spectacular in terms of cha shu, broth and noodles. Save your time as there are other better ramen in town.

Great experience!

By Kimberly S |

My family went to Yamitsuki for my brother's 26th birthday. There were 9 of us. They were very accommodating. We are not very familiar with Japanese food. The wait staff were very helpful with the ordering. I have only had sushi a few times so I dont have much comparison. but the sushi was fabulous. I am not a huge fan of oysters but the sauce on the oysters was wonderful. I think my entire family would recommend this restaurant.

Best in the moment find

By The Traveling Blonde |

My friend and I were touring historic Philly and decided to stop for a small bite/drink before we left. We saw this tea house and were surprised to find excellent sushi, unique teas, and a Naruto/comic book theme especially with the super modern exterior. Prices were cheap and the tea and sushi we had were excellent. If you're ever in the area this place is an absolute must! Even if you just want to take a photo in front of the giant iron man!

So Good Went Back Two Nights in a Row

Great sushi and drinks. You can tell the restaurant is a labor of love for the group running it. Great “Happy Hour” drink and sushi roll specials.

Ramen Heaven

By Armin F |

This is our second trip to yamitsuki my son loves it here and he wants to try all of the items on the menu because the server said he'll get a gift if ever he doesn't he'll be in the wall of fame of yamitsuki. The service is phenomenal beyond amazing also is the food. Decor and ambience is explicit

Good Food

By giasophia |

The night I went it was very busy so the service was a bit slow. The food was really good. Tried the eggplant steam buns and the spicy chicken ramen. I would come back again.

Convenient location - good food - service needs work

By Terry B |

At first we were so excited to find a cute restaurant so close to the Philadelphia Convention Center for a quick, healthy meal. This Ramen/Sushi/Sake restaurant is cute and convenient, but the service lacks. We ordered two of the same dishes but only one came; when the server realized the error she said the other meal was on its way, but we could see the kitchen from our seat and there is no way our missing meal was fast-tracked - all other orders continued to be processed before ours got started. Was way too long to wait for a missing meal. That said, the food was good, particularly the steamed buns. Not sure if we will return again, though, because the view of the servers eating their own meals while waiting at the counter where the food came out was kind of unsanitary. Did appreciate all the meals shown in photos with detailed descriptions - helpful when you are unfamiliar with the cuisine.

From a well-traveled ramen guy, don’t recommend

By masterxed |

Before I start my review, I will let you know that I am from out of town and I’m a very well-traveled ramen monger. I’ve lived in NY for 4 years and tried all their hot spots, went to Japan 2 months ago (which obviously has the best ramen ever), and reside in the DC area where there are a nice handful of popular ramen shops. Although I have high standards, I don’t always expect every restaurant to abide by them. I love cheap good value ramen as well. I didn’t really expect much going in, but it was nice to see some reviews stating this ramen spot is their favorite. Unfortunately, I’m assuming it was from a bunch of locals because this spot was no bueno. Pork buns - 2/5 the meat was over cooked. The sauce on the buns was just not sufficient in flavor/taste. Would not recommend. Main Entry - I ordered the spicy chicken broth with seaweed and pork chasu w egg and veggies. Let’s first start off with the noodles... the noodles they serve are cheaper quality than the instant noodles I cook when I make Korean Shin Ramen. It’s a restaurant - serve better quality noodles please, and not the cheapest kind. Just the noodles: 1.5/5 The broth - 2/5 it was very clear, as chicken broth usually is, but I don’t know if it’s because the spice they added but nothing stood out. The spices they used to make it spicy were not flavorful at all and took over the show if there was any delicious broth within. The taste was that of spicy flavored water. 2/5 stars because I wouldn’t come back here again. 3/5 for me would be I might come back to try a different dish, but if your base noodles are of the lowest quality and the broth was nothing meaningful, why would I ever want to try another dish here?

Delicious Ramen Bar in Philly

By Jorne R |

For the second time in 3 days I went to Yamitsuki for a bowl of traditional ramen together with my girlfriend. We arrived around 18:30 and were seated immediatly, upon which we received some refreshing water served in neat beaker glasses. Additionaly we ordered the nine tail and sakura iced tea since it tasted amazing on our previous visit. Over the 2 dinnings we tasted 4 different types of Ramen and each of them were extremely fresh and flavourful. The regular sized bowls are large enough and if you are really hungry i would recommend taking some sushi or other appetizers as they are off very high quality! All together this is an amazing restaurant which you should definitly visit on your stay in Philadelphia.

Just Delicious, Please try it

Fabulous Japanese food. We had the Chicken Katsu and a Fancy Dragon Roll both were Great! The servers were very nice and helpful. The atmosphere was modern and nice. I would encourage you to check it out.
