good dim sum

By jeffrey k |

We have been coming to Yank Sing since the 1970's. The dim sum quality remains high. They take covid seriously, with ordering now from a smartphone or tablet -- gone are the carts and staff yelling out the item's name. There is a nice patio for distanced outdoor dining.

Expensive

By Michigan Tourists |

Second time dining here. Dim sum is very good and tasty. Delivered in carts and often food is served not hot. The one thing is the expensive. It is at least twice the price of other excellent dim sum we’ve had. I think the price reflects the location in the financial district rather than in Chinatown.

Favorite dim sum in San Francisco

By Dimitrivaz |

This may not feel as authentic as some other places in Chinatown, but this restaurant never fails to blow me away in terms of quality, variety and service. The place is always packed, and such was the case last week when we took a break from the convention center for lunch. It’s housed in a glass office tower south of market, very spacious and clean. Clearly I am not the only one who makes an effort to hit this place every time I’m in San Francisco!

Great dim sum

By Hitcher84 |

Nice atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating areas. They can accommodate large parties, but I would make a reservation. We were just two and had about a 30 minute wait on Sunday at 11:30. Several vegetarian options. Many kinds of Dumplings, baked food, and fried food. Dishes were from $5-15 per. The walnut shrimp was amazing. The seaweed in fried sticky rice was good with some spicy mustard that will clear your sinuses. All the dumplings were great. The tea was really good as well. Nice service and setting. Would definitely recommend it.

Our Favorite for Dim Sum

By Thomas V |

This is where we go for dim sum, deliciously well-prepared and beautifully presented in an upscale setting. Very Financial District.

Delicious Dim Sum

By 1JillyMac |

I highly recommend Yank Sing for delicious dim sum. Everything we tried here was wonderful. They bring a cart by and you can choose whatever you wish. I do highly recommend looking at the little menu card/prices before choosing, or you will be surprised by a piece of sea bass for $21! Yes, it can get pricey, but it was really good nonetheless. I would definitely go back!

Best Dim Sum in San Francisco

By jstaines72 |

Every time we come to San Francisco we make a point of eating at Yank Sing. The Dim Sum is fantastic, and great Jasmine tea served in a beautiful teapot.

Lovely dim sum

By AlanaMaria |

So, dim sum is my fav food and I loved Yank Sing. A polished and traditional service with dim sum carts and a la carte available. The servings are large too so great value for money. Wait staff were very courteous.

Bliss !! That's what your stomach will say.

By LHardy |

Make reservations at least a few days ahead !! This place is packed because it has the best Dim Sum you will eat. Make sure you have enough money though because it is pricey !! Well worth the investment if you want your stomach to be happy though. Plan on at least 1-2 hours to eat. And try the tea - it's perfect with the food

A Real Treat

By Adrian B |

Whenever I visit SF this is the place I always try and visit at least once. I love the way they come around with the trolleys and the food is really fresh and delicious. It never disappoints. The Dim Sum is great and lots of other tasty dishes. For me this is way up there with the best places I eat at around the World. Definitely worth a visit if in San Francisco, something different

Good restaurant

By Heidi P |

I enjoyed the food at this restaurant. We were placed at a table where we used a QR code to purchase our meal and then it’s brought to our table. Food came out quickly, and tasted great. The only reason for a 3 star is that there is not much communication with a waiter so you’re on your own. Seem more like I was making an online order for pickup than eating at a restaurant.

Early Reservations are best!

By cassandradznr |

Early reservations are best for this popular and classy Dim Sum spot in downtown SF. It is open from 10 am to 3:30pm, great for a late breakfast, brunch or lunch. Service is fast and incredibly friendly. We arrived for our 11:30 reservation and the place was about 3/4 full, by the time we finished at 12: 40 it was packed and there was a line outside.Lightly sauteed fresh snow peas, chive and shrimp dumplings, and the signature "soupy dumplings" were just some of the delicious choices we sampled. Best Dim Sum in a modern upscale dining room just off Market Street n SF, short walk to SFMOMA and Yerba Buena Center.

Got my dimsum fix

By azzklaun |

The atmosphere is better than expected and the locals frequent this place for their lunch break esp. the to go section. While is quite limited to what I am accustomed to, it is done very well and very tasty.

Quick lunch

By Polly |

Had a quick lunch today was really good food and good service! Small place and generally has a line up so if your coming during peak I would suggest to book.

Very busy but not quite so good

By Giovanni S |

I went with my business partner. We live in UK where we are used to high quality chinese din sum. The ones we found here are not as good ( in USA they do not use egg pasta for their dim sum to cut cost, pancakes for duck are horrible) and the size is bigger to fill you up quickly and save on labour. Yank Sing was no exception but tolerable nevertheless. No great choice either , everything on a trolley, so choice is forcibly limited. You cannot order a la carte only from the trolleys. A great machine to churn out clients but overall I do not go back if I happen to be in San Francisco. For dim sum to lick your chops come to the DIM SUM SHACK in Edinburgh. That's the real thing. Great service though. Staff very much on the ball.

Chickens Feet and Spare Ribs

By Sandip G |

There are Dimsum restaurants and there are legends. YankSing is an icon. The Stevenson Street outlet is great for office goers and people on the go. Less leisurely, more busy, compact seating - no wide alleys for the trolleys to pass through. But same delightful taste. Would recommend the steamed and baked varieties over the regular dimsums. The Chickens’ Feet and Pork Spare Ribs are a must try. They also have limited entree menu. And, if you have a sweet tooth - don’t miss the Mango Pudding or Egg Custard.

Overpriced for what it is now

By Michele F |

This place used to be amazing, but it has really fallen off in recent years. We had 6 small dim sum dishes and it came out to $90, and we were still hungry. Service was good, but the menu is much more limited than I remember, and it was just OK. There are so many better places that are much more reasonable. Not worth it.

You Pay for a Piece of Dim Sum Prowess!

By Little Piggy |

When you are researching for the best dim sum restaurant in San Francisco, two things will be true: (1) You will not find it in Chinatown; and (2) Yank Sing comes up in most searches. There are actually two locations of this iconic establishment - one at Stevenson Street (just off Market Street - the original location) and one at the Rincon Center. Make reservations or be prepared to wait for at least an hour or more!! The Stevenson location is minutes away from Salesforce Park and Transit Center as well as the Montgomery Street Bart station. The decor is a bit understated, with gleaming white tablecloths, beige seats with a center square design, and some Oriental touches throughout. The wait staff and pushcart attendants whizz past hungry and determined patrons with transparent tea pots and delectable trays of dim sum sophistication. My only complaint is the limited menu, much more so than similar dim sum restaurants around the world. Yes, the space was elegant and refined, with soothing decorations, and yes, all of the food served and sampled were prepared exquisitely and masterfully, but for dim sum (or yumcha) connoisseurs, it left more to be desired. When you arrive, order your choice ot tea first, since that forms the basis of the entire dining experience. The food categories can be broken down into the following: (1) Steamed Items, (2) Deep Fried Items, (3) Specialty Items, and (4) Dessert Items. If you are dining in the late morning to early afternoon hours, the entire menu will NOT be available via pushcart. You should order them from the wait staff. Don't wait if you are in a hurry!! We ordered the steamed shrimp dumplings (Har Gau), pork and shrimp fluted dumplings (Pork Sui Mye), steamed BBQ pork buns, potstickers, taro root dumplings, stuffed crab claws, chicken feet, sauteed spareribs, and sesame balls. Of course, we would be remiss if we didn't order the two most popular dishes on the menu - the Shanghai soup dumplings and egg tarts. Those signature dumplings are worth all of the hype. Traditional yet beyond flavorful, those mouth-watering, succulent pockets of soup and flavored meat and veggies can rival any Shanghainese restaurant in the world, even those in Shanghai!! The egg tarts were delightful and packed with eggy goodness and exemplified crusty perfection. Sadly, we did not see the peking duck dish, although it would have been extraordinary given the heightened flavor profiles of the other dishes already sampled. Don't let the limited choices prevent you from making a reservation at this San Franciscan dining icon. Everything was made with care and attention to detail. There is no surprise why it is always ranked high on every foodie's list. It is a destination in and of itself for any visit to San Francisco. I hope they will add more master chef creations on our next visit!

Expensive and Worth It

By NYtraveler543 |

Had dim sum here on a Saturday afternoon with friends and we were seated right away. The restaurant is very nice and very clean and I like that you get your own table and don't have to sit with strangers like at some dim sum places in SF. I liked all of the dim sum we tried but the potstickers were outstanding! The bill was a little over $100 for 3 people which is pricey for dim sum but the quality and taste made it worth it.

Yum-cha for the soul

By Joel Hampton |

We loved having brunch at Yank Sing enough that we went back for a second visit a couple days later. They make excellent dumplings.. especially their Xiao long bao (pork dumpling filled with soup). You can certainly find more authentic dim sum in Chinatown but this spot is more than adequate if you don’t want to make the trek.

Fabulous!

By Passport599222 |

We had the most enjoyable time at Yank Sing on Stevenson… twice! We enjoyed it so much at the beginning of our trip to California that when we returned to San Francisco at the end of our trip, that was the restaurant that we had to visit again. I have several food allergies and it is typically a hassle when we go to restaurants and ask for dishes without my specific allergens. At Yank Sing, this was not a problem at all. The hostess came to our table and reviewed what we were about to order, checked each item to make sure it did not include anything that could cause me problems, made other suggestions and then periodically came back to make sure I was ok. She did the same on our second visit. Additionally, she was pleasant, helpful and seemingly very happy doing her job. Quite lovely. The dim sum was fabulous and each dish we ordered (and we ordered a lot), we reordered on our second visit. I still crave the food. It was really was beyond delicious! The wait staff was professional and extremely nice to us. If/when we return to San Francisco, Yank Sing will be at the top of our must do list - twice!

Don’t understand the hype

By Katerina S |

As someone who travels regularly to Hong Kong I dare say I know good dim sum. I expected at least average, especially for the price that is quite shocking for a place that looks like a street buffet. The food was super greasy, and very low standard dim sum. I left disappointed. I payed half in LA Din Tai Fung (technically not HK food but still comparable) which is far superior in food quality, presentation and service.

Totally delicious!

By Linda M |

We visit here every time we are in San Francisco. This time our son and family joined us. The carts start arriving with their temptations almost before you have ordered beverages. No problem. We were hungry. Six mai of many varieties, every protein source you might wish, soup and if that’s not enough they will bring you rice of full entrees such as prawns with honey glazed walnuts. We were sated. And took a walk.

Great DimSum restaurant!!! Recommended!!

By Ronald RT |

Days ago I went for first time to Yank Sing and the experience was very good. Dim sum were amazing and the service was fast and efficient. Restaurant is conveniently located on Downtown San Francisco... Recommended...

Excellent dim sum, fast service

By Y2CLL |

Always wanted to be in this part of the city at lunch to eat here, this trip we managed it and weren’t disappointed. As soon as we sat the first trolley (steamed) arrived and we chose about 5 plates including the pork buns, then the fried trolley, then the duck and finally before we were too full their signature pork and soup dumplings. Excellent food and service and helpful servers if you didn’t know something. We were done in about 20mins!

really good yammy

By Jiyoung Hwang |

yammy dim sum.. really good place and nice view.. the restaurant is good for us...really nice place and hot tea is so nice...

Great Food Great Service

By Robert G |

If you are looking for traditional Dim Sum served on carts that continually circulate this is the place. They have a wide variety of items and different carts come by every few minutes. If you have a special something not on the carts ask for it. This is a must do place to eat but it is not open for dinner.

Excellent dim sum

By Uday T |

We could not get into the other branch so we were sent here. There was a line, and we had to wait half an hour to get a table It was worth it. Really nice dim sum and we also tried some of teh a la carte menu. Excellent service and lovely decor, very buzzy and very opopular

Who knew?

By countrydean |

Their location is in the financial district a block south of Market Street so on New Year's Days' you might expect it to be closed. No, packed. I put my name in shortly after noon for a short wait and was called back for perhaps the best dim sum on the planet.

Poor quality for the price

By MWTTC |

Several dishes were served cold or lukewarm. Service was mediocre. Even the good dishes were just okay, and done were very unimpressive. Honestly, there are better places, especially for the price.

Excellent dim sum

By JesperF261 |

We visited Yank Sing a Sunday morning for dim sum and had a great time. Food is excellent and the service excellent, too. Waiters will come by with rollers and present mouthwatering options that you can see and choose from. Absolutely delicious and a must if you like dim sum and are in San Francisco.

Mildly disappointing

By markmd |

For the past 50 years Yank Sing and dim sum have practically bee synonymous in San Francisco. I don't believe I had been to a Yank Sing for more than 40 years. I suppose my disappointment was principally because I didn't think there was enough variety in the taste of the items we requested. My wife's vegetarian orders were good, not superb. Given the cost $78 for the two of us before tip, I was hoping to be able to say, "Wow!"

Yank Sing - You'll sing through out the meal

By Niko T |

FIRST - make certain you wear comfy clothes and shoes - Bring and appetite - and be careful of how many plates you order! You can get carried away! The dining area is informal - casual fun and comfy - medium lighting - the bathrooms roomy and clean - The little carts are brimming with so many must trys and must haves - I think we literally ordered one of everything - no joke - just to try - I suggest bringing at least four people - then go for a very long sight seeing walk along the pier - it helped with my conscious of over indulging - Enjoy indulge and delight in all Yank Sing has to offer - and if you are tempted to try a few items again - they have a take out window just for those must haves - Hope this helps fellow travelers - enjoy

Dim sum for the win

By krisgils33 |

The food here is amazing and worth the price tag. The service could have been a little better, as we asked several times for water refills and didn't get it.

Decent dimsum

By Brian C |

I work next door and have been here twice in the past 6 months. Each time, it's fine. Just fine. Nothing stands out either way. If you're craving exquisite dim sum, go to Koi Palace in South San Francisco.

Awesome Dim Sum

By Steven Y |

Higher end cart service Dim Sum. Excellent service. Super packed for lunch but enjoyed everything. Baked BBQ pork buns were probably the best I ever had. Entire table ordered extra.

One of the best dim sums

By Sharan K |

I booked a table for dim sum as I read that this restaurant gets quite busy. I’ve had dim sum a lot and judge a dim sum restaurant by their Xiao Long Bao. Yank Sing’s was the best I’ve ever had. There was only the 2 of us so we could not have as much when there are 4 or more people. The carts full of goodies come around all the time and if there is anything you want all you have to do is ask the wait staff. We had the following: Xiao Long Bao Fried Turnip Cake Scallop and shrimp dumplings Prawn & Chive Dumplings Steamed BBQ pork buns Lotus wrapped rice Pot of tea Orange juice Everything except the bbq pork buns were excellent. The buns were more bun than filling which is disappointing for this restaurant as the rest of the dumplings were full of filling and delicious. This restaurant is more expensive than the others but worth the quality of food you eat. We paid $70 for 2 including a tip. We left full and happy. It gets very busy, best to book to make sure you get in.

Best dim sum in the USA

By tatiarteaga |

We love for this place. Sooo good every time. Fast and clean. Highly Rec the mushroom dim sum, hagao, the vegetable dim sum, peeking duck, and the sweet bun-lotus bun, you can’t go wrong at this place. It’s pricier than most dim sums but it’s so worth it.

Absolutely awful food and service. Dumb crowd.

By Robofairy |

The dim sum is their specialty but I have had far better - their's was too watery and the tiny bit of pork inside was pebbly. They come round with carts, hassling you the whole time, pushing food on you as soon as you have sat down. I looked around and saw nothing on other people's plate I thought any good - all the servings were mean too. I decided on chicken in a lettuce cup thinking I couldn't go wrong with this simple choice. Wrong. It was tiny. One single lettuce leaf and about two tablespoons of poor quality chicken, fat and mushroom. I am absolutely stunned how popular this place is. I was clearly getting the same as the other customers, the usual fare. The dim sum, lettuce leaf and jasmine tea cost me $26. Avoid or demand better. I followed the dumb crowd.

Good dim sum and efficient service

By FunBoyOne |

We walked a few blocks from the Galleria Park hotel into the Financial district to have Sunday dim sum. It was very good quality with happy, efficient service. As we sat down, two trolleys of dim sum arrived at our table so we had a portion of soup dumplings before we’d even ordered a drink. So, take time to scan the menu and form a plan of what you want otherwise, like us, you’ll have three or four portions of dim sum on your table. Tsing Tao beer was good and some nice sparkling wine and Sauvignon. The outside of the building is slightly stark but it’s nice inside or there’s outside with heaters. Would happily eat here again.

China-level dim sums! Highly recommended!

By TeoTravels |

Great place to eat dim sum, at the same level you could get in Hong Kong (or Shanghai). And same style: waiters going around offering you freshly cooked dim sums, up to you to take them or not. Great variety, perfect taste. Service is (obviously) extremely fast - sometimes a bit hurried up...

The place for dim sum

By Teresa M |

This restaurant was packed on a Sunday afternoon, with a line, so make a reservation. I loved the potstickers and soup dumplings. I had 8 to 10 other items which were all delicious. If feeling adventurous you can try the chicken feet as well - they were good also.

Quality and Flavor, but Pricy: What Should You Expect at Yank Sing?

By MrGaucho1987 |

Food: We had the full range of Yank Sing (YS) dim sum. It was consistently good across the whole range. Some in our party liked some items more than others, but on average all the offering were well prepared and flavorful. Atmosphere: Expect a higher-end Chinese food room. Not super fancy but nicer. Not a dive by any measure. It’s a smaller room compared to some dim sum places, but that was ok. Service: Service was the real star here. Plenty of friendly staff to help with any need. And the carts were well stocked and circulated aggressively. Price: Expect to pay a premium for such quality food and service. San Francisco is expensive in general, and YS is no exception. If you are looking for a budget experience then keep looking.

A great place to gorge on dim sum

By This_r_serious |

As a resident of the Bay Area, I took all my visitors to Yank Sing for good dim sum. There's a good variety, and they keep the good stuff coming. I would suggest that folks avoid this location on weekdays. Its location in the Financial District leads to it being overrun by business workers. Go to their location at Rincon Center on Spear, instead. If you can't get there before 11a, make a reservation. Even if they're not busy, this will often get you a better table. Don't drink a cold beverage. It's bad for your qi. I suggest jasmine tea. Pointing and finger numbers work. Many of the workers have poor English skills (they're authentic Chinese!). No one seems offended by hand gestures. If you like something, figure out its name. Even if you butcher the Cantonese, this will get you want you want faster. All of the servers wear radios and can call over the cart with with the item on it. Try. Nothing is bad.

Best Dim sum in SF

By Reslimpan |

Incredible dim sum in an elegant setting. All dishes came out excellent. The dim sum was spaced out nicely throughout the meal. Service was great and attentive.

Excellent for lunch

By Michaelbr |

Excellent dim sum, wide selection of perfectly made and all fresh. Great and efficient service. Don't miss the soup dumplings.

Not bad

By 930alicia |

Went there with a coworker last month, they closed at 4pm and we got there after 3pm. Had to wait for like 40 minutes... very busy... dim sum was pretty good. Service wasn’t bad either... but the price wasn’t cheap... well it’s San Fran so... nothing much to complain about.

Excellent but pricey dim sum

By Bondsammax |

We usually have dim sum here whenever we are in San Francisco. The dim sum is consistently excellent and clearly of high-quality. The soup dumplings are a specialty and quite good. The servers are attentive and if you ask them for a specific type of dim sum they go out of their way to make sure you get it even if it's not on a cart or currently being taken around table to table. Our only complaint is that the dim sum is 50 to 75% more expensive than we pay for dim sum in the New York City area.

Excellent Chinese food - would go again and again

By Secret Travel Notes |

This is a top quality restaurant serving excellent dim sum and providing efficient service. We were pleased it opened at 11 am and surprised how quickly it filled up, though we soon realised this was because it’s a thoroughly authentic Chinese restaurant in all senses (no faux dishes designed for westerners) and the tea was fabulous. It’ll we lived in San Fran we would eat here regularly but alas we are only visiting briefly.

Dopest Dim Sum

By mkhammu |

If you want to hit up the best Dim Sum SF has to offer then this is the place to go! Be ready for a truly authentic experience where hosts circle the tables shouting what they have to offer! Recommend the BBQ pork buns and soup dumplings- they’ll make you keep coming back for more! Family friendly with relaxed atmosphere

Excellent quality true Chinese flavours

By Lyn L |

We are in China often and live in an area that is mostly Chinese so we enjoy our Dim Sum. They have some very creative dishes and my favourite Long Bo (Shanghi dumplings). It is clean with quick turn over and pleasant servers. We enjoyed it so much we returned for a second day.

Best Dim Sum in the Universe

By Wiltonsjs |

Another stellar recommendation from the Palace Concierge. Dim sum any day, any time. Every dish was superbly prepared and tasted wonderful. The Soup Dumplings were my favorite!

Solid place

By John H |

Flavors were pretty good. Limited dim sum menu. A lot of non-Asians dining here, however, my gf and I enjoyed it for what it was. We aren't dim sum snobs for the most part. The basil shrimp dumpling and the scallop shiu mai were our favorites for sure. We would go back and enjoy those again. The XLB was solid, had better and had worse. 7 small plates and tea...came out to $120 (including tip). Not cheap. Food came out fast. Service was ok for a dim sum restaurant...did not really check on us, but at least they were not rude. Plenty of parking structures around the area.

Yank Sing has gone way done hill!

By _dcnn418 |

Granted, I haven't eaten here in over 16 years, but it was always dependable for good dim sum and a clean, upscale environment. My daughter and I spent $80 for 5 mediocre small dim sum dishes and one order of very good soup dumplings (which did NOT come in small containers like at other restaurants, and therefore were in danger of tearing and spilling the soup before one could get it off the paper). We were extremely disappointed and will leave this place to the expense-account customers.

Still one of the best dim sum places in San Francisco

By Gamine1949 |

As soon as you are seated, the dim sum carts start rolling around with a variety of great offerings, classical ones such as siu mais and egg rolls but also ones you can ask any of the cart staff to order directly from the kitchen such as egg plants in bean sauce or scallops meat balls with water chestnuts. The fried shrimps in won tons are delicious. Remember to pace yourself and order a few plates at a time, the carts will come back.

So Disappointed

By WrldTraveler004 |

This has been one of my favorite dim sum restaurants in the country for years. I’ve eaten here dozens of times, and often speak glowingly of the place. But today was just not up to par. They were out of Chinese broccoli and string beans, the har gow were chewy with none of the usual sweetness, and the shiu mai - when they finally came out - had almost no pork and none of the roe on top. The sticky rice was literally the only thing that was as good as usual. I’ll be back, so I hope this is just an off day.

Awesome dim sum

By rfums2004 |

I went here with some colleagues and was blown away by the quality of the dim sum. Everything was excellent. My favorite was the soup dumplings and potstickers. Great, friendly service. Highly recommend.

What is happening at this location?

By napavalleydiner |

We usually go to their other location at Rincon Center and love it every time. We have also been to this location on Stevenson a few times and have had good meals. However, our recent visit to the Stevenson location was very disappointing. The hostess was frazzled and abrupt. In fact, we didn’t see any servers smiling at all (unlike the staff at Rincon who have always seemed friendly). The carts were erratic and somewhat infrequent. Most of the food was as good as ever (once we finally got what we wanted), with 2 exceptions. The sticky rice in lotus leaf seemed like a smaller portion than we have had many previous times. The spring rolls were noticeably thinner than usual. They looked like taquitos. It took forever to flag someone down to get the check. We wonder whether they are making cuts to portions to save money. We will go to Rincon on our next visit to SF, but we will not return to this location. I hope the issue is site-specific, as this has always been our favorite dim sum restaurant.

If you want the best in Chinese dim sum

By Kishmein T |

I went to Yank Sing because I love Chinese chicken feet and this is one of the few places one can get this delicacy. I know many find the thought of feetless chickens repulsive;however, have you ever imagined what goes into hot dogs? In any case, this spotless restaurant has a plethora of dishes for the discriminating Chinese food palate. Servers bring a never ending supply of dishes to your table and you choose what you want. The Peking duck with plum sauce could not have been more flavorful or tender. The shrimp balls had a lovely fresh taste. Pork buns melted in your mouth. The scallop and mushroom dumplings had a delightful texture and an even better flavor. Lettuce chicken wraps could be a satisfying meal in themselves. The Chinese usual dishes like pot stickers did not disappoint either. This is a place to explore and try new dishes. Now, it is a bit pricey, but worth it. Staff and waiters make sure your every want is satisfied. I salute the chicken feet and look forward to more when I visit again.

Dreadful

By Luke K |

I have had yum cha in lots of different countries but this took my breath away. The dumplings were like squash balls and someone forgot to add flavor. Do yourself a favor and give it a miss

Dim Sum at it's Best

By MarbleheadFamily |

Went for a Sunday brunch. An unbelievable selection of tasty food. The servers kept coming and coming with more and more selections. After we tried the initial selections that we wanted a whole new array was offered to us. The cost was very reasonable and the quality was exceptional. The restaurant was light, new and clean.

We consider moving to San Francisco because of this restaurant. My wife didn’t like dim sum until now. We had to wait for 20 minuets it worth it !!! Excellent restaurant.

Our first dim sum

By CandiPat |

Taken for lunch, and with our son to order, we tried shrimp dumplings, steamed pork buns and soup dumplings. Hot tea steeped in clear glass pots. The place filled up fast, but our lunch was not rushed. Very enjoyable and delicious.

Outstanding dim sum and then some

By Jeffery R |

Outstanding dim sum experience during COVID-19 pandemic. The staff were o-so careful and courteous, never a hint of unawareness of optimal behavior in these unusual times. Menu and service revised to reflect highest standards of public health awareness. And, of course, the food was wonderful and the service exceptional. While the menu has been pared down, it still is a wonderful experience and you can’t find better dim sum anywhere in the Bay Area.

A haven for Dim Sum lovers in the heart of San Francisco.

By Gamine1949 |

Often written up as one of the best Dim Sum places in the City, this place lives up to expectations. I would nevertheless recommend that you go with a party of more than 2 since a number of the plates have more food than one may wish and number of items per plate do not appear to be easily reduced. The pork dumplings with their ginger and vinegar sauce were delicious as were the scallop balls, the pot stickers and eggplant in brown sauce. The fried shrimps were also very tasty and I am told the pork buns are the best. The fried taro however were pasty and disappointing. Reservations are recommended if you do not wish to wait.

Best Dim Sum in Town; Never Disappoints. A+++++++

By MsMMiler |

Every time I come to town, Yank Sing is a must-stop. This time we invited several millenials and a few of them were recent SFO transplants. What an awesome time! We drank jasmine tea and ate to our hearts' content. We ordered slowly and steadily, sampling from the stream of trolleys passing by on a regular basis. For five stuffed people the check came to about $130. Not too bad! Very happy again with experience. Highly recommended

I've been going to the restaurant for years, and maybe it was an off day

By PeripatetiPat |

The restaurant was freezing cold, and never warmed up the entire time we were there. The end result, was not just feeling chilly, but the food was quickly cold. I had to stay warm drinking tea. The fluffy pillows with pork, are half their previous size, and again cold even though they were presented as right out of the oven. The potstickers were so cold they were hard, not the melt in your mouth sensation I remember. The shrimp balls were tasty as I remembered them. After many years, I'll try it again, and it was sad to see an old standby not hold its own.

Not bad - but a bit pricey

By mikiemd |

We were there for lunch. The Dim Sum was good but there are probably cheaper alternatives around the area. They sat us at a table where the breeze was coming through the open air area onto out table. We had to leave our coats on and the food got cold quickly. The potstickers that they served were on the cool temperature side. The lemon curd dessert was very good. Not sure that we would return - as mentioned it was very pricey.

Dim Sum perfection fast and full service

By jblmdmba |

Let me warn you the servers move by your table every few minutes with the freshest offerings direct from the kitchen. Yes you can order from the menu but we had 5 dishes in less than 5 minutes and added 4 more tastings over the next half an hour. Wow! Be careful how quickly you can stuff yourself with such tempting concoctions that roll by your table every few minutes. All so very fresh and classic flavor and texture. The tea serving is plentiful and quite attractive. The glasses of wine are very generous servings. Glad we made reservations because it was busy even at 1:30pm. Note hey have inside and outside seating.

Very conveniently sited near Chinatown and the Palace Hotel, where I love to stay, this location of Yank Sing (there are two) offers really superb dim sum, served from trollies as they come around. It’s not too expensive, but just don’t know when to stop eating... I’m sure the other location, on Spear Street, is just as good.

Late lunch

By EVLJack |

We made a reservation for late lunch here (2:30) and glad we did as the restaurant had a line up. We were seated promptly and great service started immediately. Dim Sum is their thing and they do it extremely well. Everything was fresh, hot and tasty. Their signature pork dumplings were an explosion of heaven in your mouth. A must go to in SAN Fran.

Dim Sum and then some!!

By Jody D |

We had a large family lunch at Yank Sing and we had a blast!! The food was hot, delicious and delivered immediately to the table! We had young children, but their needs were accommodated by high chairs and beverage cups! Great service, great food!!

Perfect !!

By Paulina V |

Everything was delicious, all the plates very well presented and tasty, good service and the staff very kind and patient

Yum cha!

By Lambigirl |

Delicious jasmine tea, explosively yummy soup dumplings, warm creamy ahn tat (custard tarts), and so many other of the typical dim sum things you love. They even had several vegetarian dumplings. We tried the pea shoot one & the spinach one and I loved them! Loved our table “outside” in the covered area. The chairs aren’t made to sit in for very long, but service is efficient.

Fantastic food and atmosphere...

By LocalizerUK |

20 years ago on a business trip San Francisco someone took me for lunch to a Dim Sum eatery at lunchtime ... not so much a restaurant, more a canteen. Many years later we booked Yank Sing and enjoyed a lunch there. Fantastic food served throughout the restaurant from trollers by enthusiastic staff ... the atmosphere was buzzing and the food amazing. Point to a dish and it is on your table, ask for something from the menu and it arrives quickly ask for a recommendation and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. It isn’t the cheapest place to have lunch, but it is a frenzied experience with atmosphere and great food - not just Dim Sum there are a few more traditional Chinese dishes on offer too. Well worth a visit for lunch, make a reservation as it will be busy. 6 out of 5 if I could award it.

Good dimsum

By awrightcharlie |

Dropped by here for Sunday dim sum. Good quality and good service. Busy too which is perhaps a good sign.

Didn't know that this place is in Michelin guide

By AritraDG |

Didn't expect to find the restaurant in there. I mean, going to Stevenson street, and how it is located with all the road work happening everyone, one can easily miss this. For me and my wife, when we went there, there was no wait time (which kinda surprised me). The food is really good. The service was quite prompt. The waiters were helpful. It might appear pricey for dim sum, that too in San Fran, but I guess you pay a bit more to eat at a restaurant which is in Michelin guide.

Friendly attentive helpful service, excellent dim sum

By M L |

Five adults and a 6 month old baby had dim sum this morning. Excellent variety of dishes and lemon tart dessert. Our server, Lina, was very helpful suggesting dishes, taking a particular interest in what food I had an allergy to, checking in with us during the meal …plus she was enjoyable with a good sense of humor. You won’t be disappointed eating here! One suggestion is for management to install a changing table in one of the rest rooms.

Chicken Balls a Little Hard

By Nic Anderson |

Headed here with the guy I"ve been seeing for the last few months and thought it was a little over rated. We dove right into our usual go to - beef fried rice, chicken balls w/ sweet and sour sauce, lemon chicks, garlic beef ribs and deep fried spring rolls. Both the fried spring rolls and chicken balls were a little hard/ overdone. They can do better.

Superfast trolley dim sum

By Andrew Y |

Within less than a minute of sitting down we were presented with fabulous trollies of fried and steamed dim sum, fish, and peking duck. Everything was hot and really tasty. Good value, clean, and very friendly staff. Would go there again.

Best Dim Sum in SF

By The Tit: The Truth In Travel |

Yank Sing has been here for as long as SF has been around. Just kidding! For me Yank Sing still has the best dim sum. It's very expensive, but so is everything in SF. But the dim sum is made like Cantonese wanted. I've seen dim sum places come and go in SF, but Yank Sing keeps staying alive.

Best dim sum in San Francisco

By Phyllis H |

We've enjoyed Yank Sing over the years whenever we're in San Francisco, and our July visit did not disappoint. We took our son and daughter-in-law (their first time) and everyone raved about the delicious food, the fast and friendly service, and the intention to return (again and again!). Though there are food allergies in our family (fish and nuts), we were able to work around that and enjoyed the entire meal.

Excellent & Authentice Hong Kong Style Dim Sum

By John1516 |

Took a friend from out of state to have lunch at this restaurant for the first time and found out this is an excellent place to eat an authentic Hong Kong style dim sum. The restaurant was v. nice and so was the service, the manager came over to our table to strike a conversation with us which is not very often do you get this kind of treatment from other places. All of us were greatly impressed from the ladies who brought out the dim sum to the waiters which were all well trained with v. friendly manners. This is a very well known Chinese restaurant in San Francisco downtown area and when they first started over 40 years ago, they were located in Chinatown and the management was smart enough to move away from San Francisco Chinatown to the downtown area.

Delicious sum$ up our experience

By Leslie Y |

Melt in your mouth egg tart, fully loaded sticky rice. Shanghai bao specialty leads restaurant guests to a very pleasant dim sum experience.

Try the Take Out Counter. It is Super and Cheap!

By Chris F |

Yank Sing is an excellent restaurant except they can be quite expensive at least on the sit down side. They also have a take-out place off to the side of the main dining area where they have a walk-up counter. You can get different combinations of their food to go. I usually opt for the Chinese chicken salad which comes with their house (honey mustard) dressing and 2 pot stickers and an egg roll. It is quite tasty and for under $9 it’s a pretty fair value for lunch in the financial district. They have other options as well depending on your taste and are all very affordable.

Authentic

By rhpatt29 |

We made reservations (which I recommend) and arrived early. We were not seated early. However, the quality of the dim sum was very close to my experience in Hong Kong. The only drawback is that the dim sum carts came by so fast, at times it felt like we were in a race to eat. Excellent taste and authenticity. Definitely a return visit is warranted. A good experience.

First time for dim sum

By BENJAMIN B |

This was the first time for dim sum for both my wife and I. We did lunch. We really enjoyed the fast paced theme with all the different types of food. My only regret was that I didn't save room for the Peking Duck. We had probably six or seven different dishes, and some hot tea. Our bill was about $60, which I felt was very reasonable. We both really enjoyed our first dim sum experience.

Fantastic dim sum lunch

By Sicipi |

Three of us came here for lunch. Atmosphere has the typical great hustle and bustle, without being overly busy. All the food was fantastically tasty, especially the scallop siu mai, soup dumplings and eggplant, steamed BBQ buns superb and (unusually) not fatty. Highly recommended!

Great Dim Sum, great value

By GL726 |

This is a San Francisco Financial District staple. The Dim Sum here is not exceptional but very good, especially if you want variety for a very good price. Highly recommend the place.

Dim Sum Delights

By Tripletravelfun |

If you like dim sum, Yank Sing is a fabulous food destination. The carts keep delivering new goodies to try. We sampled so many different things from soup dumplings, gyoza, sea bass, chicken lettuce cups, chicken dumplings, shrimp dumplings, veggie dumplings ...My husband raved about the duck. Service was fantastic. Best to get a reservation or arrive at opening time. We are here over 20 years ago and it was just as delicious as we remember. Kudos !!!

Overrated restaurant

By chihchen69 |

I checked the online reviews before picking this place for lunch. Although I know SF is expensive, I was still shocked by how expensive this place is. The selection is limited, the food is ok, just ok, that is why I only gave three stars. We had soup dumpling, potstickers, turnip cake, and lotus leaf chicken, 4 small dishes, $49 plus tip. The final bill is $60. I wasn’t full or satisfied. I guess we also paid for the location.

Best Dim Sum in SF

By Greg H |

Traditional Dim Sum establishment in the Rincon Center, with carts and monosyllabic waitresses. The selection and quality are excellent, but be prepared to spend considerably more than you would in Chinatown. Parking in the garage can be settled with a $4 charge added to your bill.

Only ok

By Mpk1970 |

We were looking for some yum cha and this place was recommended - it was not bad but pretty average. The cold broccolini as the first dish didn’t help. Had all the usual range of dishes and very good tea. Reasonably priced.

Try. Nothing is bad. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60713-d360106-r563777560-Yank_Sing_Stevenson_St-San_Francisco_California.html#

Our Favorite for Dim Sum

By Thomas V |

This is our go-to place for delicious dim sum. It is in the middle of the Financial District, so not a simple Chinatown spot, quite upscale. The food is very well-prepared and healthy and looks beautiful. Just delicious.

Best Dim Sum in SFO

By Zachary H |

Old school dim sum in the heart of San Francisco's Financial District. We felt like we were back in Hong Kong. This was our second time to Yang Sing and was one of our first meals during this trip to the Bay. We love this place, and particularly like the steamed shrimp dumplings! Delicious!

Excellent dim sum restaurant

By KPNP19 |

Great Chinese restaurant for dumplings. They bring the food tray to you and its quick service, but the food is great and the venue is nice. Would return without question. One note, several of the dishes come in 4 pieces, so if you are eating alone its hard to get a variety of dishes since they are large. We had 5 orders (3 dim sum, egg rolls, and dessert) for 2 people which was the perfect amount.

Quality dim sum

By willemb89 |

Yank Sing offers a wide range of high quality dim sum dishes. I particularly liked the steamed pork dumplings and the Peking duck items. The service could be improved though

Pretty good dim sum

By Doug M |

Good standard dim sum. Upscale decor, not a hole in the wall, with prices to match. Served traditional on carts. The standards were good but the salt and pepper sea bass is outstanding. Sichuan chicken is good too but a little too sweet.

Still best Dim Sum for over 20+ Years!

By D i |

If you like Dim Sum, this is your place! Believe this was the original, but there another one on Spear St., (Rincon Ctr). This was our go-to lunch place when we worked years ago on Market & Fremont St. Was always a line. My Asian girlfriend is quite the SF "foodie" who suggested we must go, as it had been a number of years. We are kind as we know many restaurants have changed a bit after Covid.

Delicious, Lots of Flavors and Tastes

By WorldTravelRod |

Dim sum for lunch today on the patio-no waiting at Noon! I enjoyed the shrimp and chives dim sum and also a favorite was the salt & pepper sea bass. Hot, right off the carts just like it always has been and always should be at Yank Sing. Take the time to enjoy the hot tea and the beautiful steeping pots they serve it in. All servers explained ingredients when I had a question. This is a busy place in the business district, expect that and enjoy the crowd when you go.

Dim Yum!

By JoBazOw |

Had dim sum lunch, or should I say yum cha 😊 Love the trolley experience as you know what you are getting. All tasted fresh and delish, the soup dumplings are a must! Would go again for sure and certainly best to book ahead.

Everything was great!

By Nancy M |

The breakfast menu is equally varied. I could have ordered at least 6 items on the menu. The service is great, prices are reasonable.

Great Food and Service But Not Competitively Priced

By Melany W |

As a local, I dine at this restaurant (and its sister in Rincon Center) quite often, but I am tired or being overcharged for certain items. On our most recent visit, we ordered from both the dim sum menu (these items are competitively priced) as well as two items from the kitchen: sugar pea tips with garlic and pan fried crispy noodles with vegetables. The food is delicious, but compared to Ton Kiang, absurdly over-priced. We were charged $18 for the sugar pea tips (for which Ton Kiang charges $12.50) and $17;50 for the pan fried crispy noodles with vegetables (for which Ton Kiang charges $10.50). Why should noodles with a few mushrooms, a few slices of carrot and a couple of bok choy cost $17.50? Of course we know we pay more for everything in San Francisco, but I found this pricing to be egregious.

Above average dim sum

By jonathb5 |

A very good dim sum establishment. Tried the broccoli stems, pork steamed dumplings, barbecue pork dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and sesame balls. All were very good. The service was perfunctory and rushed as it was near closing time and they were running out of items. Overall, a good experience with quality food.

Only food to go, restaurant is closed. Don’t go if you think indoor dining is open.

By Maryellentong |

I am writing a bad review because the restaurant has not got a good job on its website or on the web indicating that it is not open for indoor seating. Quite the contrary. I called on the phone to see if it would let me know, when I looked them up at the web indoor dining was checked, and when you went on the website it did not say to go only. We were very disappointing when we got there and the atmosphere was bleak at Rincon center, there wasn’t any seating and it was only to go. I feel deliberately misled by them to not being open about the restaurant still being closed. We left without getting food because it was not anywhere we want to sit and eat. As we were leaving another family walked up and was equally disappointed because they thought it was open as well.

Authentic Dim Sun Cart Table Service

By Michele C |

Din Sum table service. Fresh, hot servings. Recommend Pork Potstickers, Shrimp Dumplings, Mandarin Dumplings (Shrimp & Chives). Entrees area available as well. Green tea served in a large format. Highly recommend reservations as some people waited over 1/2 hour outside-no waiting area available inside. Be aware, there are 2 locations in SF.

Delightful

By Kaye S |

Perfect after an afternoon of walking around S.F. and sugaring-out at the MOIC. Love the pot stickers and chilled Chinese broccoli. Shrimp dim sum was delectable.

Treasure in San Francisco and the Best Dim Sum

By Joanna G |

I have been going to Yank Sing since I was a very little girl. It was such a fun and amazing experience with food and my mom. Every time I am back in the city I make every effort to come to Yank Sing. The food is tremendous and it is fun to watch the carts go around and pick out you special dishes. The Phoenix Tail Prawns are my favorite, but in truth there is nothing here that I have not loved. The BBQ pork buns are only available on the weekend which really makes no sense as they have steamed pork bun and a baked chicken always available. I also wish that they still sold the hot chili oil, I have never been able to find anything as good. Make sure to make a reservation as it is always busy and note they have limited hours and are only open Wednesday through Sunday. Everyone should visit Yank Sing when they are in San Francisco. It is a city treasure and the best dim sum anywhere!

Good but WAY overpriced now.

By Chris F |

I took my daughter and friend to Yank Sing (sit down restaurant) over spring break before they headed back to college. We have been there in the past many times through the years, and occasionally eat at the take out side that is located off the side of the sit-down restaurant. We made reservations and took the 11:15 am slot as the times closer to noon were already taken. I work very close by so the restaurant is conveniently located for me. We like the food items and had a nice dim sum meal; however the prices for each dish have gotten ridiculously overpriced. We spend a $125 for the three of us and did not over eat / order. The service was good but we felt rushed somewhat. The takeout meals at the side of the restaurant are way more affordable in the $8.50 to $15.00 range. I can say I would not recommend the sit-down side anymore given other dim sum places in the city that are equally as good and at a fraction of the cost. Sorry Yank Sing

Dim Sum at it’s finest

By LaelH |

Since I’ve moved from San Francisco this is the restaurant that I dream of returning to. It didn’t disappoint. Beautifully prepared soup dumplings are a must, so much so that I recommend you order 2 portions. The red cabbage salad delivered catalyst mixes the flavors of fennel and citrus. It is something that I think I might be able to make at home; however, the refreshing taste works best at the restaurant. Crystal shrimp, so often found heavy and cloying are transformed into lightly crunchy, airy jewels that retain their flavor. Even the tea is a step above. This is the restaurant for those who are Dim Sum novitiates to those with sophisticated palates. Unfortunately for me, there are very few Dim Sum places that can compare. I will just have to return. .

Fabulous, As Usual!

By BachSinger |

We travel to San Francisco every year, and we make our first stop one of the Yank Sing locations. This time we went to the Stevenson Street location. Like the others, the food was fantastic! The dim sum carts were readily available, and the food was fresh and hot. The variety was wonderful. As always, Yank Sing was a wonderful lunch experience!

The Gold Standard for Dim Sum

By Peter M |

Having been blown away by our visit to the other Yank Sing location last time we were in town, we decided to try this one as it was closer. Equally delicious. Yank Sing is the gold standard for dim sum. I love the food selection by choosing from the wares on the ever-roving carts. You can eat as little--or in our case, as much--as you want. Do not--DO NOT--leave without having the sesame balls for dessert. Heavenly. I dream about them.

Awesome dim sum!!

By AmyKahn |

This restaurant has the BEST VEGETARIAN dim sum EVER! It can be difficult to find good veggie food at the majority of dim sum places - but this place has TOO MANY great veggie options! It's truely the best ever for me. Gotta try the mushroom( pasta) rolls and sesame balls for dessert!

Legit and real deal

By Keith T |

Friend took us here. A little surprised as it wasn’t in Chinatown but this is highly recognized. We were not disappointed. Tons of potstickers, pork buns, shrimp, etc. and the hospitality was as good as anywhere else. Not a lot to compare to but delicious.

Dim Sum restaurant

By mss F |

This is a dim sum (Chinese appetizers) restaurant downtown in the business district. The good news is that it has a wide variety of dim sum--and some dim sum you will probably not find any place else such as Peking Duck dim sum and Sea Bass dim sum. The push carts around with different dim sum so service is fast. BUT it is ridiculously expensive--for two of us--no liquor--no drinks--just water--we had 6 dim sum dishes and without tip it was $85!!! That is an insane price to pay for dim sum. If you do not have a budget or unlimited expenses then you probably dont care. But $50 a person (including tip) is crazy crazy expensive for dim sum--if you went to Chinatown you would pay less than half that. Therefore I rated this as average because of the price--food is good--dont get me wrong--but the price is really high.

Spectacular

By Chopstick224 |

We have been fans of Yank Sing since we moved to SF 20 years ago. Consistently delicious high quality phenomenally prepared dim sum that you just can't find anywhere else. The waitstaff and servers are also wonderful, and will help you navigate the extensive menu. Clean, welcoming and wonderful, Yank Sing is a UNIQUE eating establishment!!!

Delicious Dim Sum

By Curt S |

Perhaps some of the best dim sum that I have had in a long time. This place is a diamond in the rough. They have an extensive menu and carts with various dishes that they roll by to see if you are interested. We ate so much from the carts, we never got around to ordering main entrees. The place was packed and you could tell it was a local hit. They have inside and outside seating in a nice urban setting.

Don’t waste your time or money

By Sylvia M |

This is not what I thought the San Fransisco Dim Sum would be like. At first, I thought it was really cute the way they served tea and sat us outside in the heated patio. But once the carts started coming around, I realized there was barely any selections. They didn’t even have flat rice noodles! To summarize, overpriced for nothing special. Food and service was good. If you want to try dim sum for the first time or if you have it all the time, don’t waste your time and money here.

Perfect place to experience Dim Sum

By Kristy C |

There was a group of about 6 of us in town for a conference. We made reservations ahead of time to be sure to have a table (necessary especially on Sunday). Every bite we ate was delicious! They start you with their special bbq pork buns. They are slightly sticky on top with a sweet pillowy dough and savory delicious pork inside. I could have eaten 30 of these! I think we tried nearly every bun or dumpling there and they were all perfectly crafted and delicious! We sat in the sun room area which was nice and bright and perfect for a Sunday morning. I’d highly recommend this restaurant.

Very expensive, cold food

By Pasha G |

I went there for lunch with a friend. We ate many dishes, but I did not expect the bill to be that high. It was $200 with tip, and we did not have any alcohol. Some dishes were on that cart probably for a long time. Like siu mai and soup dumplings. Siu mai were all stuck together and had a lot of dough especially on top. Soup dumplings were cold, and some of them were broken. We had many different shrimp dumplings, and they were mostly good. So were Peking duck, sea bass and egg tarts. It was a late Friday night, but for that amount of money, I would expect better quality of food.

We were expecting a better experience...and over the top with MSG

By Tania d |

We tried this dim sum restaurant as the hotel recommended it highly. Having had superb dim sum in Melbourne this experience was disappointing and we both got ill due to the large amount of MSG and salt in many of the dishes. The soup dumplings were good and there were lots of dumplings of all kinds on offer. Mostly they tasted pretty similar due to the MSG content which destroyed the natural flavours. The green vegetable dish was cold. To make things worse the prices were super high. Over AU$100 for the two of us and we didn't eat that much. Service was fine though they could not appear to offer anything much that didn't have MSG in it.

Amazing Dim Sum

By MaryLouise H |

We made lunch reservations at the Stevenson St. location and I highly recommend that you do too. We arrived a bit early and were taken directly to our table. We barely sat down when the carts started rolling our way. I can't remember all that we had. There was so much and so much more to choose from. We got a cold Chinese broccoli, asparagus, juicy dumplings, lettuce cups (this was my least favorite), pot stickers and some of the most amazing shrimp I have ever tasted. I wish I could remember the name of it but it was deep fried. We ordered tea with our meal. We ate until we could eat no more. There were several parties of 8 to 12 that came in while we were there. Our bill was about $100 but it was worth it. This is really a cut above. Yank Sing is only open for lunch (11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.) When we left there was quite a line waiting to get in. Definitely get reservations. They use Open Table.

What Dim Sum is supposed to taste like

By Durwood N |

We had lunch here on Monday and I was immediately reminded of what dim sum is supposed to be. Clearly this is the best I have had. The service was just right. The prices were fair for what was received. I had no complaints of anything of the myriad choices we picked. The dumplings of all types were the best. Of course I ate too much, but this wasn’t my first rodeo. I believe this is the best dim sum available in the US. It gets my absolute highest recommendation.

Fantastic Dim Sum

By Ross H |

I was surprised to find this Dim Sum place outside of Chinatown, but this is a fantastic spot. The food was a little upscale, but the taste matched. The restaurant is small so you should get there early. Make reservations as this is the best way to eat here. The tea is fantastic and you get a good meal here. I would definitely come here again. Protip; the actual restaurant entrance is on a alleyway off the road. Just know that is on a side street with little parking and construction.

Hurrying customers is not the best way to relax and enjoy the food.

By Gamine1949 |

It was our first time back since they have restarted the dim sum carts and we were not impressed. Without having the time to take off your coat or put your purse down, we were asked what we wanted to drink without having seen the drink menu and 2 carts had already gone by peddling their dishes…we prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.

Great place for dim sums but you need to pace yourself to be able to enjoy it to the fullest

By Gamine1949 |

We always like to come back to this great place for dim sums. Everything is fresh and very tasty. We had pot stickers and spring rolls first and then steamed pork bun, Peking duck, chicken in salad wrap and our favorite, fried scallops... All was tasty and delicious and if you do not see what you want on the carts going around, the server will order it directly from the kitchen. Great service.

Dim Sum in the City - Recommend the Splurge

By Culture812596 |

Love Yank Sing and I keep coming back each time I’m in San Francisco. The dim sum is fresh and tasty, staff is helpful and makes sure you have everything you want, even if not on a cart. This time I had the honey sea bass (WOW), Shanghai dumplings, honey walnut shrimp, mandarin chive dumplings, steamed buns, and sesame balls. Groaned as I stood up but it was all so very flavorful and wonderful! I will see you soon Yank Sing!

Best Dim Sum in San Francisco

By PatandDiSpokane |

Truly the best variety and quality Dim Sum in San Francisco. Very popular so be sure to make a reservation! They have a nice outside patio with heaters for cold days,m but inside is crowded and fun. Service is excellent. Would definitely recommend going and we would will definitely go there again!

WOW! Just wow

By wisewanderer60763 |

I have traveled in China and eat luxury food all over the globe. This restaurant is fantastic and best chinese food I have had. Dim Sum style allows for fast service and lots of food. The soup dumplings and everything are awesome. Just go. Even if you have to wait, you really don't as food comes as soon as you sit down. The tea is divine and wait for the duck to come--very worth it. Just close your eyes and keep eating, any cost is worth it. Oh, and I dislike chinese desserts but even those were great (mango pudding).

Crazy good...and crazy expensive

By Leo M |

Yank Sing was recommended to us by our concierge as THE place to go for Dim Sum. And it was quite simply the best dim sum I've had in the past 20 years. Everything...EVERYTHING was a cut above your normal dim sum palace. Even the desserts - which I normally ignore while my wife and kids chomp on a fried sesame ball - were spectacular. That said...our lunch came out to $75/person with no alcoholic beverages. The service was quite good. Lots of carts rolling through the aisles and no problem specially ordering something from the kitchen that we hadn't see come by our table. Lastly, the decor is modern Asian with lots of wood and light. I recommend a reservation unless you come before or after the lunch crowd...otherwise expect to wait 30-60 minutes for a table. And I do recommend eating here...at least once...to experience what dim sum can and should be.

Tried so hard to like this place

By TravelGalBT |

This place gets great reviews but it didn't work well for us. The place is packed and you sit right on top of your neighbor. None of our servers spoke English which made it hard to ask questions. Apparently they bring trays of food around and you choose what you want. Unfortunately you have to choose from what they bring you instead of you being able to order what you want. We went long periods without food and were unable to understand the tray attendants when they tried to explain what the various dishes were. We had to ask the hostess to get our check for us - to this day I'm unsure if we actually had a server or just a variety of attendants circulating thru the dining room. Food was okay but some of the items we got were cold (were supposedly hot) and nothing looked appealing - just slapped on a plate and handed to you. REALLY wanted to like this place but it was so difficult and even stressful figuring out what to do. Also to note - the attendants mark random codes and numbers on a pad on your table and that's what you pay from. There is no way to tell if that's actually what you ordered or not. Have eaten at many similar restaurants in the past and never had an issue so not sure if it was just us or it was them. Will probably try it again just to see.

Recommend restaurant!

By Janet H |

Good quality of dim sum. This is the second time we can here, it has friendly waiters and nice environment. Highly recommend to friends.

Delicious

By courtneyo332 |

Best dim sum in all of San Francisco! Also the best BBQ pork buns I've ever had in my life, definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Top notch dim sum. Better than Chinatown places.

By wmn9 |

We are dim sum addicts. We don't have many good places near us so when we travel to cities, we already hit a few. Yank Sing is one of the best. Quick service, lots of variety. Our favorites - steamed shrimp dumplings, pork buns and pork dumplings. They close after lunch. But we have gotten their right before they close and they have still provided good food and services.

Good food. Bad service and overpriced!

By oclova |

We went to Yank Sing after browsing online for the best Dim Sum in SF. Upon arriving, I had several encounters with the manager in a suit which didn't seem friendly at all. That verified when he spent the whole time we were there patrolling around the tables and creating a stressful atmosphere. He seemed to be on his employees' back every second and that made us really uncomfortable. Now about the food, it was excellent, there's no denying it. But we felt robbed in a way. The prices are quite high and you kind of know it as you get through the door, but there was the tea for example. 2$ and refills are not free, as a matter of fact we weren't even asked if we wanted a second teapot, the waiter just brought us a new one even though we were basically finished which costed us an extra 2$. Their signature dumplings are brought to your table even before you have time to sit and they are some of the most expensive (14$), so you end up eating them without even picking them. For all those reasons, it felt like a robbery (84$ without wine). I wouldn't recommend unless you aren't looking for a pleasant lunch.

Yummy!!!

This place was amazing. I highly recommend getting as many different plates to share as possible. We ended up with almost 10 different things that we pulled off the carts as they came by. The soup dumplings were our favorite.

Delightful

We went to Yank Sing for dim sum. The food was great. We had a sampling of pork dumplings, crab, shumai and a number of other dishes. Everything was very good. The service was good. All in all, a very good experience.

Great Dim Sum , friendly service

By David N |

I really love Dim Sum and I really loved Yank Sing. Highly recommended and really friendly service. We didnt book but they fitted us in despite being busy. Cant wait to return.

Pace yourself. There is too much good food here.

By Kristin K |

This was our second visit to Yank Sing in 5 months. We can't imagine going anywhere else for dim sum. If you're new to dim sum, be sure to pace yourself. They are super efficient with bringing fresh food out at a rapid pace. It is easy to have too much on your table at once. We ate much too fast the first time around. On our second visit, we paced ourselves a little better. We'll need to come back a few more times to pick our favorite items and perfect our pacing.

Dim Sum at it finest

Best food I have had since coming back from China. This is extremely traditional food. Make a reservation and on a nice day sit outside.

Best dim sum in SF

By rjb826 |

I have gone to Yang Sing many times, and I believe they have the best overall assortment and quality compared to their competitors. Food is always fresh and very fun to eat. Since it is family style the more folks the more assortment. They take and honor reservation-strongly suggest reservation

Yang Sing is a winner!!!

By abcliff |

An absolutely delightful experience. The food quality is first class and variety is absolutely off the charts. This is such a fun experience, you eat as you go so there's always enough but not too much. I recommended for tourists and locals alike.

Fabulous!

Great service and delicious food, especially the dim sum! Tables outside for when the weather is good. The perfect location, too!

Great Dim Sum in a smaller space

By MarcynLA |

There are 2 Yank Sings in San Francisco; this is the smaller one, which is what we wanted. The dim sum was excellent, and the setting more relaxing than in a huge restaurant like the other Yank Sing.

Just not worth the hype

By Richard N |

I’ve been coming here with my family for years but my experience this past Sunday was just not that great. Given pricing and difficulty to reserve tables I’ve reached conclusion it’s just not worth the hype or the effort to come into city for. I’m a vegan and rest of family are not, and we usually find Yank Sing can accommodate our various tastes. But on Sunday, there was no eggplant dish available and the beans I chili sauce only arrived as we were settling up the bill. This retracted my available options to about three choices - the somewhat bland spinach dumplings and the snow peas in chili sauce. The snow peas had almost no chili - more like just in soy sauce. Overall disappointing. On the positive side, the rest of my family had better success with their choices and the tea was very good. Of course, as always the staff were helpful, but curt and unfriendly. Nothing better or worse than usual there. I’ll go with a 3 rating because of my family’s success, but for me alone, this was a 2 at best.

Excellent dim sum, a must

Returned here on our next visit to SF. Great experience and even better service than we had just over a year ago. Recommended to us by an American friend in London and we’ve been twice now on separate trips and will return. Great choice, quick lunch and very enjoyable. Steamed Pork buns a must!

Fresh and So Tasty !

By JillClardy |

As soon as we were seated at our table at 11:30 the servers started arriving with food choices. Most of the servers do speak enough English to explain the dishes a bit, though we had to ask them to repeat themselves several times. We had to slow down the pace as they seemed to be pushing the food on us faster than we could eat ! It does seem as though they are interested in turning the tables as quickly as possible. The restaurant is too crowded for them to push many carts around, so some servers just carried trays around to various tables. We had steamed buns, dumplings, Peking duck, and so much more - everything steaming hot and delicious. Several sauces are already on the table, and some dishes arrive with additional sauces. The tea pot was replenished upon request. It's easy to lose track of how much you've consumed, but at some point, we finally said "enough". The server stamps a ticket on the table for each dish delivered to keep track of what you've ordered. We didn't ask the price of anything, nor was it printed or displayed anywhere. I suppose we could have asked... We spent ~$30 each, not a terribly expensive lunch by City standards, and everyone was full and satisfied. The takeout window did a brisk business with a constant flow of workers from the surrounding buildings. This is a very popular restaurant, and reservations are necessary unless you're dining at off hours.

Tasty but Pricey!

By TheFoodTraveler |

Not knowing where to go and eat can be always a hustle whenever you’re visiting a new town. Asking the locals does helps! Originally we were planning to go to Chinatown for dim sum but we were suggested to try this place (“if money is not an issue”). Well, it was a good meal, very similar to Din Tai Fung, not impressed but the food did tasted delicious. Will we ever return? Hard to say, I guess it’s ok for a special occasion but not for your weekly dim sum on weekends.

Disappointing

By RuNanS |

We like dim sun, and this restaurant came highly recommended, but we find that we can eat tastier dishes where we stop in Gilroy off Hwy 101. Food was a bit bland, even the touted famous dishes. Not worth a return.

Decent quality, good service but pricey

By Traveller T |

Food is good, not too salty nor msg heavy like other dim sum places, but overall expensive. Two of us visited on Christmas day 11am, we sat outside without waiting, and the dimsum cars were slow we had to order from the waiters. Most dimsums we had were good except no 腸粉 at this location, and spareribs a bit disappointing. We didn't order any crazy dishes(no Peking duck nor $12 eggtarts) but easily $22+ per person. Waiters were very attentive which was quite a huge plus.

Wow!

Spectacular dim sum. Flavors and textures of each dish were outstanding, service was super fast and friendly. Jasmine tea was heavenly, House specialty dumplings were a memorable surprise, and the desserts were lovely too.

Superb service and best Dim Sum in Bay Area

By 69tiger888 |

We frequented this restaurent on both locations whenever we are in SF , we even have a few big parties there in the evening at our annual national medical convention when SF is host site .We are Always dealt with professional and the food quality always maintained to the highest level . Lena the manger , Christina ( server at Stevenson ) recognized us as we live there. This particular time no difference , a lady pushing the dim sum cart around and asked me by my last name where have I been ( I forgot her name !). I usually go at Eleven when it opens . Later time become jammed . ( they only opened for 4 hrs daily ) The soup dumping( always superb) ,fried taro dumping the best. . Curry puff another favorite of my wife. Many other choices you can pick from the cart . Peking duck , lettuce wrap, Satay yummy. . The egg tart amoug the best ( better than best in HK and Toronto ) Mango pudding filled the last space of my stomach . This price is high but all worth it. I understand they went through some labour upheaval a few years ago , it appears the owners did the right thing and solve the problem as most of the staff still there ( 20 plus years )and appear upbeat and energized. . This is a SF classic that we never miss when we visit .

This Is a Must Try

Every time I am in San Francisco, I ALWAYS go to Yang Sing. It is a must for anyone visiting this city. Dim Sum like this is no where to be found except in SF.

Reliably Authentic Dim Sum with Friendly Service

By BostonExplorer32 |

Reliably good and authentic dim sum: HK-style with servers rolling carts up to your table and explaining what they have on offer. Just writing this makes my mouth water. Food is outstanding. Service is terrific. Nice shaded outdoor seating in addition to the dining room. It’s a go-to lunch place for us whenever we visit San Francisco.

Dim Sum at it’s Best!

By Rami M |

This is one of the best restaurants in San Francisco -and that says a lot. The Dim Sum offerings are like none I have ever seen. The service is remarkable. I strongly suggest reserving a table on Open Table to eliminate a wait. From appetizer to dessert this is a restaurant not to be missed. I only wish they offered a scale higher than a 5!

Professional and delicious.

By Stephen S |

Came in for a late lunch with family. Attendants were quick to assist and serve us. Great dim sum. Really enjoyed the setting and service. Able to advise on an egg allergy and even made sure we got an item which we had not seen on the carts.

Average at best...

By The Grazing Wanderer |

Very busy restaurant but food was a little to be desired. I travel the world a lot and considering the location in a busy part of San Fran I was expecting more. Prices were high for the average quality ofnfood and everything came out on a trolley pre-cooked. Very odd system, no a la carte choices possible. Disappointing. I wouldnt go back nor would I reccomend it to anyone. Better dim sum at lower costs available elsewhere downtown.

Food still great. Menu limited.

By pq1 |

The food tastes as good as the other location. Menu was limited however. Everything is touchless with ordering. You order and pay on your phone. No rolling carts like pre pandemic. Food came out quickly. Restaurant felt cold though.

Good dim sum, friendly people, make reservations

By Frank B |

Good dim sum, make reservations even if you're going at an off time such as 1:30pm on Sat. Friendly, accommodating staff, servers spoke adequate English (which is not true of all good dim sum places in San Francisco).

Tasty dim sum’s and good ambience

By neeratraveler |

Wonderful typical dim sum experience. We were there during the weekend and the place is popular. I’ve had better dim sum at one of the restaurants in Chinatown but Yang Sing was very good. The. Restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating.

High class Dim Sum

By sandynueva |

We were lucky to get a table for lunch on Thanksgiving as they normally don't take reservations. The various Dim Sum presented on a trolley were very diverse and it was difficult to find our favorite as they were all amazing - taste and quality wise. Having been with a group of people having various food intolerances and diets everyone was still able to enjoy a fantastic lunch. Although the prices are in the upper ranges they are totally appropriate for the quality and service presented.

Authentic dim sum with novelty

By zambian75 |

As you are probably aware, SF is probably the dim sum capital of the world outside of China/HK. This place is one of the cream of the crop. Its higher end, but still maintain the cart tradition, which I love! The dim sum is spectacularly good. Half traditional that you would be used to, and the rest their interpretations on stuff. Ingredients are fresh and top quality, and you can taste the difference.

Amazingly good ! Best Dim Sum ever!

By edsonm904 |

Me and my family enjoyed an amazingly good Dim Sum meal at the Yank Sing. We like Chinese food and we have been to many Chinese restaurants but this was the best ever!
