The restaurant isnt pretty to look at but it was full of Chinese diners so we thought it must be good. We were the only non-chinese people eating there. The food was fantatsic. A set menu of three dishes with rice and soup included was $18 for two people - great value. The staff were also friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and fresh. The fried food wasn't at all greasy and the vegetables were cooked perfectly

Bad food, bad service... Keep away from this place, in the neighbourhood you will find better options...

Worst Chinese meal I have ever had. The place is disgustingly filthy and the meat is the dishes we ordered was very poor quality. We were a party of 6 and none of us enjoyed the meal and could not wait to leave. One of the group found a hair in their meal and there was blood in the chicken in the wonton noodle soup. I am amazed that we were not ill after eating here. As we left the waiter asked for a tip!!!!! The kitchen looked like a rubbish dump and of the one of the chefs I saw was wearing a filthy apron that was covered in blood. Absolute horror show. I would rather starve than eat in this place.

We went to this restaurant in Chinatown for lunch and it was packed. We were the only caucasians there which speaks well for the food. the 2 of us ordered 2 soups a chinese brocoli dish and a chicken and vegie and shrimp dish and we were overwhelmed with the portions. We took the extras home and had them for dinner. The total price was $28 which wee thought was very reasonable. The food was very tasty and subtly flavored.

If you want frippery, tablecloths...or any caring about western sensibility...go somewhere else. If you want really good, authentic Chinese food, stop right here. I only took a star off because the place could use some sound-absorbing tiles in the ceiling, big time. But I also know it's not going to be to everyone's taste. We were close to the only white people in there. They did give us forks, though. They do expect you to order one entree per person, and charge a small service charge for fewer, but I recommend ordering one of the meat entrees (which do not come with rice) and fried rice for a couple - this worked very well. Oh, and the potstickers (what is it about San Francisco and potstickers). We got free tea (which is standard in SF and London Chinatowns but not in New York) but also another little extra - a slice of yellow (I think it might be a drought-resistant variety) watermelon each on the house as dessert. Pushed the place from "good value" to "excellent value." If you don't mind the tanks of live fish and the fact that the deep fried pigeon comes with the head...this is a great place to sample some really authentic non-tourist-oriented Chinese food. It's clearly a place for their own community (but there was no snootiness in the service as can sometimes happen). Worth a try.

This is not a 5 star restaurant and it does not pretend to be. It is a good place for a reasonably priced meal with quick service and also gives you a bit of the real atmosphere of Chinatown.

I've always wanted to go into one of those places with all of the ducks in the window! And I'm damn glad I did. The duck was very juicy and tasty. Order duck and noodles and you have enough food for 3 for about 20 bucks.

This is a pretty solid Chinese place, typical of most of the hole in the wall places in SF Chinatown. Nothing spectacular, and pretty simple and basic dishes but as long as they provide adequate service, consistent food, and you come in here with the right expectations, it will probably give you a satisfying meal. They have a front area where you can buy BBQ take out of BBQ port (cha siu), BBQ duck and some other typical foods, but when we got here at around 5pm, most of the items were gone. We thought their BBQ offering was OK, not great but OK and priced consistent with other places in the area. We had a couple of dishes, a combo rice plate of BBQ pork and roast duck and a "sam see pan fried noodles". Both were served fairly quickly -- the rice plate was loaded with steamed rice and sliced meat; the pork was OK, a bit light on the flavor and spices. The duck was OK as well, although some of the pieces were from the bony parts and neck area of the duck. The noodles were large and generous, plenty of sliced chicken, small bits of BBQ pork and flavored with bean spouts and mushrooms in a thick gravy...generous and cooked well. The two plates were well priced at 7.50 for a total bill of $15 -- quite cheap and filling. The place wasn't as dirty or greasy as other places we've eaten at in Chinatown and I think if you're in the area, looking for inexpensive and basic Chinese food, this is a pretty good place.

All of the techies along Market Street, walking as fast as they could and using their phones, helped me realize that San Francisco is changing. So it felt great to walk back into Chinatown and see it mostly unchanged. Yee's was one of the unfancy restaurants with lots of locals (but, also, good English spoken). Actually, the place wasn't crowded when I got here at 6 pm on a weekday. The server brought me a pot of tea as soon as I sat down. The food I ordered (a rice plate with beef, green peppers, onions and black beans) wasn't spectacular, some of the beef was tough, and it was all too oily. But the price was spectacular: $6 for a big plate of food and tea. By the way, about the photos showing a buffet: I didn't see one when I was there. This isn't the best Chinese food, by far, but it's great for hungry people on a budget.

About five adults ate here one late afternoon after a flight into SF from the East coast. One of your group closely spoke the Chinese language. We got a table with about a 10 min wait. They only serve you chop sticks to eat. They do have forks, but you will have to ask for them. We tried the goose dish, the duck, chicken and livers with wonton soup. We were very surprised at the good service and large portions of food. It was very good. We even took food to go. The price was very reasonable; better than what you would expect in SF area. Stand in line for an hour for good food, large portions and very reasonable prices.

Happened upon this restaurant while walking through Chinatown looking for a place for lunch. The restaurants customers were mainly Asian so we thought this was a reliable indication of the authenticity of food and we were right!!! We ordered hot and sour which was amazing and wonton soup. The wontons were delicate and flavorful. Huge bowls which would easily serve 4 were only $7.00! Next we ordered Mongolian beef and a Shrimp with bok choi dish. Both were plentiful and delicious! The quantity , quality and price made this restaurant a " must go to" destination. One of our culinary highlights.

Went to this restaurant twice when my family and I visited San Fran last August. Price was reasonable and food was good. 3 dishes and soup of the day for $20.99. Cash only. We also ordered yellow watermelon juice. It was refreshing.

Try the foods displayed in the window, especially at lunch time. Ignore the menu and try to convince the server that you really do want real Chinese and not the Americanized versions. I had 5 slices of duck and a heap of white rice and green vegetables for $7! A pot of tea and a slice of cucumber for desert were included!

I can't tell you how the food tastes. The waiter would not bother to ask if the food I'm allergic to was in the dish I ordered so I got up and left.

We patronise this place as it was mentioned the only Chinese restaurant in Chinatown that is recommended. Well , I would say it’s reasonable priced, the roast duck and goose are cheap and just above average but not on the best category, lack crispy on the skin.

Every time I return from back east I visit Yee's. It's Chinese soul food to me. The sliced pork, duck and noodle soups are simple and satisfying. There is no real atmosphere, but the service is excellent and the food very good. A very solid 4 rating. See you in April!

This is a typical Chinese restaurant, in that most of the clients are local Chinese. The deli has roast duck, roast pig, bbq pork, etc. The duck , though, is the star of the show. The restaurant is also good , if you want something that is typical Chinatown.

I have visited San Francisco more than a dozen times over the past 30 years and have eaten at Yee’s at least that many times. Have always looked forward to eating their Chow Fun with beef and Chinese broccoli. Have recommended it to others traveling to SanFran and taken colleagues, friends, and family there. Until this trip, hadn’t been to San Francisco since just before COVID. I was truly shocked at how bad the food had become. Ordered the same dish. The gravy had almost no flavor. The beef was chewy and gristly, like from a very cheap cut of beef. I had to spit some out to avoid choking, as I simply could not chew it sufficiently to swallow it. Some pieces tasted as though they had started to turn rancid. It seemed like it was boiled rather than pan fried. My wife ordered the seafood Chow Fun and said its sauce was devoid of taste, as was the seafood, which had been overcooked. After she added much soy sauce and, unlike her, a bit of hot oil, she could eat it. I, on the other hand, stopped eating the chunks of beef, but ate the noodles and (undercooked) broccoli. So, never again will I eat at Yee’s or recommend their food.

I see that the reviews are very mixed about this place: my husband and I loved it! Because it was authentic Chinese (so the food was delicious even if the service was not exactly obsequious !!) We found it clean, efficient and excellent value. The roast duck was especially tasty and there was lots of meat on those bones. Amusingly: we were taking a rather long time deciding what to order because of the large selection of unusual dishes. The waiter was very patient. But he did encourage a regular (San Francisco born Chinese speaking a very educated English) to help us make a choice!! And we ended up having a most pleasant conversation …

The roast goose is highly recommended by the locals. It's $20 for half a goose. The barbecued pork, roast pork and boiled squid are also good. There is a 3 meat/vegetable dishes for $19.90 menu- great value for a family of 5-6. The deep fried flounder, vegetables with bean curd, and fried beef were great. Generous servings too! With rice, the entire meal was less than $50.

You know when a restaurant is good when it is filled with locals and you hope that you can get a table. This restaurant is one of them. We had no problems with the service, we were promptly seated. Our waiter was helpful and offered suggestions. As we hadn't arrived in time for an early dinner they sold out of the roasts and porridge. For $35 including tip we had three mains, beef wanton noodle soup, complimentary soup and a plate of oranges. This is by far the best and authentic chinese we had in SF!

We popped in here as it was just around the corner from our hotel and we had just arrived in San Francisco at tea time. It was about 7.30 pm and to be honest quite busy with both local Chinese and visitors which we felt was promising. We all ordered from the section of the menu which was entitled " a bowl of rice and....." I wasn't feeling very adventurous so ordered chicken curry and my teenagers both ordered roast duck. My curry was definitely not chicken, it was some indescribable meat that I had never seen or eaten before, I landed up extracting the meat and leaving it, whilst mixing the rice with the sauce. The roast duck came skin on which is fine and the kids removed it along with the normal fatty underside but the duck was tough and in places undercooked. Sorry although really reasonable at about $7.50 each we left dissatisfied

on the northern end of chinatown in san fran, Yee's was the best chinese we ate on our vacation. when you see the duck and chickens hanging in the window, you know its FRESH!!! the roasted duck my wife had on our 1st visit(we ate there 3 times) was so good, i ordered it on our 2nd visit, instead of the pork which was superb. its 1/2 a duck for $12. seriously. i had to stuff myself to eat it all. tender, succulent duck. nothing fancy here, so you won't impress on a first date. just good food!!

We just visited Hong Kong in January. We loved attitude in Chinese restaurants - good food, straight forward service, attitude " eat and get out because others need the table". Decided to visit Yees because of good reviews on TripAdvisor and were in mood for noodles and roasted something. We chose Yees house noodles and roasted duck. Duck was really greasy and so were noodles. We got the check and I already put some money on the check, when were discussing tips, when lady who didn't serve us grabbed our check and went way. When she noticed than we haven't left any tips, she came back and told us to leave the tips here. We were in shock, because we were not served by her and our server was at other table. Also in Hong Kong it is rude too leave tips, you pay the lady behind counter, not the server. So we were discussing and I was trying to google it. So now I guess we know.

We were going to hit one of the big well known places in China town but an older gentlemen said oh no oh no. We wanted a place where the locals eat. And off he took us to Yee's. Great food and really reasonable prices. Great selection of all the traditional Chinese dishes. A bowl of wonton soup is large enough to be shared by 2 or 3 people. And the duck was amazing.

We stopped in this restaurant when we were visiting San Francisco. We love Chinese vegetables. The food were so tasty and not very greasy as most places. The service was very nice and fast. We all had good time there.

I can not agree with the photo that is displayed as a lead image for this restaurant, as I did not see any "buffet" style serving anywhere; however, the food is good, and quite reasonable for San Francisco. I would recommend you try this restaurant if you are in the Chinatown area. This is not a tourist restaurant, mostly local Chinese, and older clientele.

Half of our food was good, half less tasty. It was, however, served promptly and was fresh and hot. Our waiter was not the friendliest -- not rude, but not very friendly. We thought the cost of our meal was good. We would not return for another meal.

Staff were neither friendly nor rude. Food portion are big and cut in big chunks which made it unappetising. They have live seafood as well. Probably wont come back again

When looking for a great Chinese experience, it is cool to find a place with only a few (if any) long-noses in there. Yee's restaurant is one of them. Family style cooking at its best. Cash only.

Our meal was delicious and plentiful. We sat ourselves. We looked around to see what other people were eating. Its really a family type restaurant with a bustling atmosphere. We had the tendon beef stew with noodles, restaurant special. Ate there twice and will go back when we visit San Fran.

On good luck we tried this very identical Chinese. We were the only non Asians in the restaurant (which I saw as a good sign ) We ordered Peking Duck, Pork with Fried Noodels and Fried Rice. It was not top, but very identical Ambience: well, you can't expect a fancy restaurant Price / performance: good to recommend: yes

Went to Yee's twice while on business in SF. This place is cheap - especially with their 3 entrees for $15.99 deal though with a catch that I will go into later. First visit came after a whole day of sightseeing throughout the SF area. Lots of walking from Nob Hill to Fisherman's Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, Pier 39, North Beach, and all over Chinatown. Finally decided on Yee's as we wanted to dine at a "hole-in-the-wall" place full of locals. Placed two take-out orders of their roast duck + roast pork over rice combos ($7.50 with tax each as of 6/19). Unfortunately, they were out of roast pork so substituted with bbq pork (i.e. the red pork). The pork was good, no complaints there. Although the duck was tasty and cooked well, they were on the extremely small/not meaty side. One thing we really liked about the take out order was that they actually included bok choy with the rice! The veggie made the takeout order into a more complete meal, i.e. meats, rice, and veggie. The sauce that was poured over the rice was quite good as well, just wished the duck was meatier. Second visit was a sit-down dinner. Went for the 3 entrees for $15.99 deal plus a couple of additional dishes. Before I go into that, we were pleasantly surprised that we were given a free bowl of artichoke soup/broth. It was a very simple soup with a couple of pieces of artichokes, but good. As for the dinner, we got 1) Deep Fried Flounder with sauce 2) Salt & Pepper Shrimp 3) Seafood Tofu Clay Pot 4) Kong Xin Cai 5) Whole Roast Duck. The last two items were not from the $15.99 deal. First, the fish was quite small while the salt/pepper shrimp was overcooked as they came out soaking in oil. The seafood tofu claypot, though good, was NOT a claypot. It was a mere mini metal wok. The most disappointing was the duck. For a whole duck, it was really devoid of meats. It actually looked like half a duck - for $7/duck I guess that is to be expected. As with most "hole-in-the-wall" restaurants in Chinatown, there was only one bathroom per sex and it was essentially a closet. To get to it, you must walk through the dish-washing part of the kitchen with dirty/used plate/bowls stacked everywhere. I got so tired of waiting to wash my hands in the bathroom that I just washed them over the industrial sized kitchen sink. Overall, the dinner was somewhat disappointing, not bad, but also not great. Came out to about $45. Decent meal - A-OK. Bear in mind - cash only.

The best 'home' cooking meets and authentic chinese dishes, especially the goose! No fancy atmosphere here, just great food.

A very good restaurant full of local Chinese people. ;-) If you wanna try some chinese food, definitely go there. Not very clean place, but this is a part of the culture.

In the heart of Chinatown, definitely not a touristy place. Clearly frequented by residents of the area, and super busy! Friendly service, menu a bit intimidating if you're not familiar with this type of cuisine. Did the "lunch combo" and was so much food we felt bad for leaving so much but couldn't eat it all!

OVERALL: Woo Wonton Noodle Soup soup has a good body and depth. What would make this an ideal representation of the dish is al dente noodles. Hoping they make this slight adjustment and they'll have a star/stand out dish. AMBIANCE (@ lunch): Typical Chinatown well attended and worn restaurant. Tea and menus offered at seating. If the tables for 4 are occupied, you will be sharing a table for 10 with others. This is the traditional Hong Kong style seating arrangement. FOOD: Saw a lot of Chinese BBQ on the tables like Peking duck and roast chicken. They also have ABC dishes like tomato beef over rice. Will try other dishes the next time I'm there. TIPS & TRICKS: 1) EMBRACE THE ATMOSPHERE: The decor is worn but that is due to the high volume of dinners each day. Enjoy the food and that you are in the heart of Chinatown eating a place the locals eat at. 2) BY FOOT OR TAXI: There is no parking in Chinatown. Enjoy the stroll through the bustling streets of Chinatown as you make your way to the restaurant.

It was my first time in San Francisco Chinatown and I felt a lot of pressure to find just the right place to have dinner. After walking around and checking various websites, I finally decided on Yee's because it had a good number of customers on a Monday night and had a more casual atmosphere. The menu has a ton of different choices, with most dishes under $7. I got rice with BBQ pork and eggs. The food came out very quickly along with tea and soup. The portions are generous and I didn't think I could eat any more until dessert showed up, which the waiter described as "sweet potato soup." It was delicious and a great way to end the meal.

Yee's is one of those cheap, cheap, cheap chinese restaurant that had lived in SF Chinatown forever. We must have gone on the wrong day when the chefs were on holiday. The BBQ goose was greasy, dry and chewy. The other dishes were just edible with the exception of the crispy deep fried whole flounder with the side inedible cornstarch-to-death sauce. The servers were rather friendly as my friend is a regular there. We left without visting the greasy bathroom, OMG!!!

This place was recently remodeled ... price are up, but the food is good. Nice menu, and two can eat lunch for under $20

Ordered roasted duck rice plate, with some cabbage. The taste was ok, but nothing special at a price of $11, a bit over priced. It's ok for a quick simple lunch.

One of the few hole in the wall chinese restaurants in chinatown that we'll eat in. They are famous for their roasted geese - either as a rice plate dish or ala carte.

This typical place was full of chinese people. We tried roasted duck and lemon chicken that were both good. The portions were giant and served with rice and vegetables for moderate prices.

Came in here for dinner on a Sunday evening. Was very crowded with what appeared to be all locals. We had to wait to sit, and the hostess seemed anxious to keep us happy, but also had a family of three locals (who turned out to be regulars) who came in shortly after us. When a large table opened, she asked if we would mind sharing the table. Both parties agreed, and we sat together for what turned out to be one of our favorite meals of this trip. Ordered way too much food, because the portions were enormous, and all of it was excellent. Prices very reasonable, especially given the portion size. We had ongoing conversation with our companion family for the duration of the meal; they were from China but had been living in SF for years. They coached us on food and discussed cultural factors related to some of the dishes, and that whole element added to the feeling that we were getting an authentic experience, which is exactly what we wanted. I'm sure it's not the norm to get your own guide family here, but even without that this place is a winner.

Disclosure- our family association gave this resturant in previous years monthly visits - Natives of Chinatown goes there often! It is a dive but has authentic food! They have daily plates for take out after 3pm . Agree these can be grease- so burn these calories off by walking Grant from Broadway to Bush st.

Full Disclosure we were there during the festival so it was quite busy I recommend going on the weekend just because it's easier to find parking Sunday. There are no restrictions to parking in the yellow zones...which are usually for loading and unloading. Still read three signs and pay attention. Parking can be tricky. The food is never not good. Just depends on the time of day...that the food one gets taste fresh or less fresh.

Combinations available at very reasonable prices . Well worth a visit . Definitely will be back for sure .

The food was OK. I ordered the lunch combo. It was typical sweet and sour pork with the heavy, sweet and sour sauce, lo mein, a chicken leg and some vegetables. I also tried a potsticker, which was sent with a thin red sauce that tasted like someone added too much vinegar. The pot sticker was very doughy, inside and out. The fried chicken leg was a typical chicken leg, the lo mein was tasty, the vegetables were OK, but I did not eat the lotus or black mushrooms, simply because I wasn't sure what to expect. My son ordered the fried pidgeon and that's what he got...a fried pidgeon and nothing else. No rice, no veggie, just a fried pidgeon (see pic). Of course walking through San Francisco after lunch, all we could do was make fried pidgeon jokes! As a group our major complaint was when the waiter looked in my husband's open wallet while he was getting his cash out (this place is cash only) and pointed into his wallet and demanded a $5.00 tip. We always tip well when the server earns it. The thing is, the guy that demanded the money was not our waiter. Very shady practice!

We ate here on the recommendation from a local at Pier 39, who told us it was cheaper to eat in Chinatown than on the Pier where everything was overpriced. When we walked in for lunch, it was very loud as the restaurant was full. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table as we were a party of seven. As I looked around, I noticed that only one table had tourists at it and the rest of the tables were occupied with locals. My husband wanted to eat here as there is pigeon on the menu. The food portions were very big. We had food leftover. The waiter seemed distracted when taking our order and did not ask us about drinks (we had to request water after we were half way through our meals). The food was good and my husband wished he had ordered two pigeons. The restaurant only accepts cash so keep this in mind but there is a sign on the door so it is not a surprise.

We stopped here because of the ratings on Trip Advisor. Maybe I just have a weak stomach or a picky palate but I was not impressed. Every meat dish had a layer of fat on each piece. The fried rice required soy sauce for any sort of flavor. The bathroom... Well... DO NOT USE IT unless it's an emergency. And to top it all off they don't take credit cards. Cash only. Ugh. Pregnant mama not happy today :(

Delicious authentic Chinese food. This place is in China town near the edge of Old Italy. Nice one mile walk from union square. The portions are big, so prepare to share. The hot & sour soup is so yummy.

Made a decision to eat here at Yee's Restaurant by how crowded it was and by how few caucasians were in that crowd. Although this strategy doesn't always result in a good experience, in this case we weren't dissappointed. Lots of options you just don't find at your more common Asian restaurant (e.g. pigeon served a variety of ways and menu options with the word "pig guts" in it for starters). When I ordered the House Special Chicken, our server informed me that it was boiled chicken, not BBQ or fried, as if to tell me it might be more than I bargained for. I settled for the BBQ pork and got a HUGE portion. On the opposite side of the table my wife ordered Beef with Chinese vegetables. The two entrees were more than enough food. Along with the Tsingtao beer we each ordered our bill came to $25 - including tip. Please note: they are cash only, no plastic.

Just dropped in when walking by with the family and was really pleased with the food and value. We ordered too much, so they served the first dew things before checking with us that we really needed the extra dishes which I really appreciated. It felt like a very authentic Chinatown dining experience which we really enjoyed.

We paid $27 for half roast goose and it wasn’t that good. Not sure if it was roasted the same morning. Many pieces were really salty. We had a large Samoan congee and it was awful. They blended up the congee so the grains of rice is no longer intact. Some of the meats in the congee tasted bleach like the intestines. The congee was so bland. A bowl PF plain rice $1.50. Service for us was good. We will not be returning a there are many other take out bbq places with roast geese.

Yee’s has the best roasted goose, roasted pork and squab (two kinds: fried or soy sauce pigeon) in all Chinatown. The place is not a fancy restaurant, it looks more like a butchery. But the food there is awesome!

For six dollars I got what I think may have been the biggest portion of food I've ever had - I had to ask the staff to pack what I couldn't eat and it will be enough for another dinner tomorrow. The beef was a little bit stringy but still really good - I don't think you could get anything better for the price. They also served tea for free. If you're looking for a good meal in Chinatown, don't miss this place!

Stopped here before going back home. This place reminds of a deli set up, Chinese style. It was approx. 20 tables and they are all spread out. We ordered: Scrambled Egg and Shrimp over Rice Scrambled Egg and BBQ Pork over Rice Roast Goose Lai Fun As in all Chinese restaurants, you get your money's worth in food, plus the everything we ate was savory and tasty. Definitely, coming back here.

Large portions for little money we had to wrap up remaining food to take with us there was so much thereanso good soso good

Awesome Roast Duck - compares favorably to the local restaurants in Hong Kong. Authentic food and good service for a very reasonable price - highly recommended.

This is a spot for pretty good food at low prices. Do not come here for the atmosphere. It's really loud and crowded with locals. There is a takeout spot right in front if you decide to do takeout. They sell the usual fare of roast ducks, BBQ pork, roast pork , etc. The restaurant portions are pretty large so maybe order a bit less than you normally would. You can always order more food later if you're still hungry.

Horrific food and weird service. Squid physically inedible. Even the fried chicken was just a chicken chucked into a deep fat fryer full of old fat and cut through into bits with bones and worrying red/bloody spots. Got the heck out ASAP.

Stumbled on this restaurant looking for another one. Looked authentic so we decided to try it! Many locals, few tourists. Not a lot to look at, but good food. Started with excellent hot tea. Huge servings! We could have done with one less plate and shared! Our family was glad we came!

Go where the locals go...this is it! Large portions, most served family style. DE-licious & fresh! Don't be put off by the chinese menu! Our waiter was easy to communicate with. Entire meal for two with one glass of wine each...under $25! Awesome

We drove 2 guests from the Netherlands from Huntington Beach CA to San Francisco for sightseeing and after a long day visiting Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge and so forth, we decided to eat at this restaurant where we have eaten before a few times. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed with the dishes, and plan to try different restaurant next time we are in town. We chose noodles, not very flavorful, soup was bland, price is not cheap but somewhat fair, service was fine.

Decided to get off tour bus near Chinatown for lunch and was attracted by the chickens hanging in the window, so stopped in here for lunch. It was a very memorable experience. Busy with locals, we were quickly greeted and waited on. The menu has some strange items, i.e., fried pidgeon, so we settled on a daily special of fried chicken, fried noodles, sweet and sour pork with pork and cabbage. In addition, I ordered a bowl of the pork won ton soup and the wife had some pot stickers. The main entrée was very good with the pork and cabbage and fried noodles highlighting the dish. The fried chicken leg was OK, but not a big fan of chicken leg. I have had better pot stickers but the soup was good and there is a lot of it. I would suggest if you do not want to overeat at lunch, just have soup. Plenty of won tons and pork in a large bowl. As a side note, it was interesting to watch the to go counter as a large blade was used to cut up large pieces of meat for people and watching people pick out pieces of uncooked duck to be prepared for them to take out was fascinating. In the end our bill was less than $20 for all that, we were stuffed and saw sights that we will most likely never see again while we are dining.

I found this restaurant among the many others in a one block area. It was noon and many locals were dashing through the door. It had a bakery in the front and about 25 tables in the back that were all filled. The only two tables NOT taken were at the front window, so I was seated and ordered chicken soup and a noodle/beef/vege dish. Soup was really good but the noodles didn't have much in the way of veges. I smiled at a lot of tourists and locals passing by. Bakery looked really good, but I couldn't carry things around all day. Remember to take plastic bags with you for all your purchases in SF. At 1 p.m. the place emptied. If you want local....eat here.

We were walking through Chinatown own own way to have Italian food in Little Italy, and the roast duck and Char Sui pork caught our eye through the window. The smells were amazing, and the restaurant was busy with what was obviously locals eating family style dinners..We were literally the only tourists in the place, So, the locals usually know best, and they were on the mark with this little gem. Easily the most affordable meal we had the whole trip, generous portions, and delicious!

Just like back in Hong Kong, traditional Cantonese BBQ meats. Highly recommend for meat lovers. Bring an appetite! May require a translator or a lot of finger pointing, but well worth it!

I looked in the window, the place was full and everyone had a smile on their face. So in I go, the great explorer :) I ordered the rice porridge (Congee) with cod. I didn't really enjoy this dish, my wife does it so well. The duck was delicious & I had a side of Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. I will repeat if in the area.

How can you mess up....egg rolls, egg flower soup, sweet and sour pork????? Egg rolls looked good on the outside but the had a strange mushroom mixture inside and the sweet and sour sauce was like water and an odd flavor in it, I spit it out. Egg flower soup lacked flavor. Sweet and sour pork was horrible, globs of unrecognizable meat chunks covered in what looked like a hot mess of goo. We walked out leaving most of the food, the place stunk and the floors were COVERED IN GREASE so you had to walk VERY carefully. The whole place needs to be shut down for a week and be steam cleaned, utterly disgusting!!!! I should of looked for a health card, not sure they had one.

Visited for lunch on the day of the day of the Moon festival. It was very busy but still really quick service, large portions of incredibly tasty food.

Restaurant is on grant street, 1131, if you want a very good cheap Chinese meal this is the place to go. It is a very basic restaurant but has great food at really good price. You will find a lot of local Chinese eating at this restaurant. Need to not order to many dishes as generally two dishes plus rice is enough for three. A whole Peking duck as a takeaway is only 14 dollars. Our meal for two including one beer was 25 dollars and that included two shrimp dishes. Need to make note it is not for a romantic meal but great for a dinner out.

Of course the ducks hanging in the window drew us in.... obviously an authentic Chinese restaurant in China town. My husband was most intrigued, but clueless how to order. We were told to order from the table - if you could find one! ( Truly, this was a favorite with the locals - we were there at lunchtime, every table packed - but the only tourists at that time.) The waiter was prompt, serving us tea, and a plate with a fork and chopsticks. We ordered only a #62 - an economy rice plate of roasted duck. ($8.00) The service was quick and portions were ample. My husband's comment was that he did not enjoy the duck as much as his own cooking, but thought it was tasty. He said he would gladly return.

We went there on a Saturday afternoon during happy hour. The happy hour menu had entrees such as won ton noodles for $2.50. I ordered the beef stew noodles and regardless of price, it was very good. The chicken wings and the pork spare ribs were also very good at $2.50 each. The service was just average. By 6 pm, the place was filled up by the locals and that to me is a good sign. I would come back here just to sample what they have on their main menu.

Went here with 2 other people ordered 4 dishes and beers and the bill was $48. The place was packed with locals from Chinatown. It's cash only so come prepared.

Went for a banquet dinner with family & friends. The food, portions and prices are very solid. Exception of the gai lan & abalone dish; the abalone, while sliced thin enough was in rather large pieces, the gai lan as well, which made it a little awkward with chopsticks. The flounder/sole was quite excellent, as were the BBQ dishes. They offer discounted food items after 5pm. There's a sign with info for free parking, didn't read the fine print tho.

This restaurant was recommended from a friend. The food was good and it was an experience. This is not your fancy night out, but it is great for the authentic chinatown experience. My wife loved the potstickers. They were big with plenty of meat.

in mid-day, they have ready to plates. i had a plate of mixed vegetables, mostly chinese mushrooms and tofu. and a plate.of sliced cured duck. Only $2.30 each. cup of tea, free. wow, tasty meal for under 5 bucks! be adventurous!

We have been to a lot of restaurant in Chinatown, but this place is our favorite for their food. It is a family style restaurant frequent by Chinese patrons. Once in a while, you will see non-Chinese customers like ourselves. Been going there for over 10 years. Great tasting, genuine Chinese cooking, and very friendly staff. Reasonably priced and great selection. They even have a counter for food TOGO.

We've been to San Francisco's Chinatown several times and the restaurant we usually go to is now closed, but Yee's was well reviewed in trip advisor so we gave it a try. After one simple meal it's now one of our new favorites and we'll make it a point to return. I had a won ton min with duck and my wife had duck on rice. The duck, the critical ingredient for both dishes, was very, very tasty and for my soup dish, the broth was rich and flavorful. It is a typical Chinese Restaurant, so if you can get past the noisy environment and casual atmosphere, you will be in for a wonderful experience.

Everytime I'm in San Francisco I stop at Yee's it is light on ambiance, but comfortable. The food is delicious and dirt cheap. Staff is very friendly. I recommend the chicken porridge.

Forget the ambience and the mediocre service. Food here is exceptionally delicious. We ate here twice while vacationing in San Francisco. And also, the price is unbelievably pretty inexpensive. Highly recommended.

This place offers great food for an unbeatable price in the heart of north beach! I will most definitely return during my 2 weeks stay!

Ate here last night after a long day... Roasted ducks in the window + huge portions at a low price + only caucasians there - best food! You know its good when the owner/host takes a break, sits down with his family and eats next to you. Will be going back...

If you want fresh, tasty and cheap food, this is the place for you. The people are friendly and you can see by the people eating here that it is a genuine place. Enjoy!

Poor food quality. The oil was old that fried the food. Price was right but could not stomach the food quality. Got right in on busy day imagine that

We were heading to one of the Chinese TA recommended restaurant in Chinatown SF, when we passed by this restaurant which was jam packed with Chinese families. We decided to have a look to the restaurant which we were planning to go and we saw only tourists there and not a single Chinese. We immediately turned back to restaurant Yee. The restaurant is not that clean, but the open kitchen where you can see the chefs cooking was a plus. We ordered the Peking duck with roasted pork and the yong chow fried rice. Oh my... It was yummy. My husband loves Peking duck and this was one of the best he had. Good food, affordable prices and good service. If the place looked better it was a 5 instead of a 4 rating. Will come back in a dew days for a take away meal when we continue our US roadtrip.

Walking around China town, all restaurants seemed too tourist oriented...this was full of local Chinese's, moreover nobody but a waiter spoke English. We didn't stay, took away two portions of the lacquered duck and walk to Washington square and eat them. Portions were cut in pieces and with the special gravy all over Delicious food and absolutelly cheap I do not give it a five because the place is clean but quite "rustic" but the food deserves a five. Pork also looked amazing

Just like a jump to Asia. This place serves authentic Chinese food. Everything is fresh and very tasty. Huge portions, friendly service. We had a 3 dishes deal. Highly recommend (!)

Took a chance in this place and loved it! Despite older reviews to the contrary, we received kind and helpful service throughout our whole visit. The restaurant is old, but clean, and we were the only Caucasians there during a moderately busy dinner. Roasted ducks, chickens, and quarter of a roasted pig hung in the front near the windows. As everyone else chattered away in Chinese around us, we were a little bit lost. Always up for an adventure, we wanted to try something new, and were greeted with a menu full of authentic Chinese fare. No orange chicken or fortune cookies to be found, so we knew we were at the right place. The helpful waiter made a few recommendations to allow us to try several new flavors, and when he was done, we weren’t fully sure of what we’d be getting, but we went along anyway. After a short while, he brought out a plate with large portions of barbecued pork, and roasted duck, and then another piled high with a thin, fried noodle dish, half mixed with seafood, the other half chicken and beef. Everything was hot, fresh, and flavorful. It was all well prepared and delicious, but also delightfully foreign to Americanized palates. This was not your typical Chinese takeout fare. We shared the contents of the two plates, realized that we couldn’t possibly finish them due to the large portions, and asked for the bill. It was only $33.50! I was blown away that we could eat so much and so well, in 2024, in a town like San Francisco, for what felt like a very reasonable sum. When you go, I recommend going in ready to try new things, new flavors, and a new culture. They’ll bring hot tea to your table right away, but id you want a glass of ice water, you’ll have to ask for it. On a reasonably warm California day, we were the only patrons there with the cups of water, but they happily obliged. If you’re looking for a new experience, to soak up the essence of Chinatown and its unique culture, all at a reasonable price, I highly recommend Yee’s Restaurant.

not too sure if this is the one we went to, but the one that we think is great is in Grant street China town heading down towards the end of China town. Not a great setting typical old chinese restaurants, has ducks hanging in window food is great and extremely well priced. Be careful of how much you order will be difficult to finish. We had two mains plus shrimp fried rice plus a beer for a cost ex tip of 24 dollars.

Walking by this place just had a certain curb appeal for me and I wanted to try this place out. I came back later with a friend and looked at their menu outside. The prices are very reasonable, so we decided to go for the three items for $15.99. Pigeon meat (boneless) with vegetables, Shredded pork with preserved vegetables over braised tofu, Steamed flounder (frozen) (menu is deep fried) but an inquiry with our waiter on what it would cost for steamed fish depending on the fish and weight. He also made a really good suggestion that they would steam a flounder though it's frozen instead of being deep fried. Our order also includes a house soup, that day was pork and tofu. The soup is simple, pleasant taste. The pigeon meat with vegetables was quite good and tasty though the meat tasted too salty. The vegetables of beans and celery was tasty, colorful, crunchy. The shredded pork with preserved vegetables over braised tofu was also quite tasty. The tofu was deep fried with a thin tough exterior but once you bite through it, it's quite delicate, soft texture. The steamed flounder with ginger, scallions, oil and soy sauce came last as it takes longer to steam the fish was excellent, not over cooked which would make the meat tough. They have goose which I would want to try next time. We left a larger tip than usual because the waiter taking our order was friendly, helpful about the steam flounder idea. This is a great place to go for some good Chinese food at really good prices. The atmosphere is non pretentious, sitting in the back got us away from the draft from the front of the restaurant. Service can be a bit spotty, we saw the three items for $15.99 menu outside, but when we sat down, we weren't provided that menu and needed to ask for it, and later needed to ask for water. Cash only.

Visited tonight for dinner. Restaurant was fairly quiet so no problem getting a table. Service was a little abrupt and not very helpful when asking for recommendations. Food came quickly and was all huge portions. Shared 3 dishes between 2 of us and we couldn’t finish everything. Tasty with plenty of choice. Overall can’t complain for how much we paid but not the friendliest of places.

Very rare to find goose meat and Yee's delivers a jumbo sized portion for under 9 bucks. Great value and better taste. Not for the food snob but perfect for a meat lover. Great over noodles. Great roasted look and taste did not disappoint.

I live in San Diego, but I've eaten at this restaurant every time I have traveled to San Francisco whether I'm up there for business or pleasure. It has great tasting pork and barbequed chicken, which they picturesquely hang in their front window. They also have good rice bowls with a variety of additives, such as fried fish, pork, chicken, beef, vegetables, etc. The prices are really low when you consider the amount of food you receive and its quality. Consequently, I recommend Yee's Restaurant to tourists who want memorable Chinese at prices that don't cut their budgets and millionaires who crave great food.

We stopped here as we were walking down the the main street in chinatown. It was packed with locals. We know why. Super tasty. Amazing prices. We had the fried tilapia in ginger sauce. Awesome.......really enjoyed our meal.

All of the reviews are bang-on. This is a no-frills HK style diner with very cheap and reasonable prices and a ton of selection. Unfortunately I went late and they were all out of the roasted pork that I was digging, but the BBQ pork and duck hit the spot and the portion for the "economy rice plate" was massive. Easily enough for two very hungry people. Added some chinese broccoli with oyster sauce and packed for $16 all-in with enough for another meal. Didn't check out the bathroom, as advised here. Servers speak decent English so I'd consider the place tourist-friendly. Advised!

i cant remember all we ordered. the menu had at least 100 items on it....the food is delicious and very affordable.. the hot tea was the best....... with a bit of sugar in it hits the spot... the chicken and noodles soup was huge...a giant bowl enough to split with 3 people and half of a chicken in it with tons of noodles. the shrimp and snap peas my friend ordered was perfect. the shrimp was a good size as well. our waiter was friendly and courteous.... its an older type of restaurant not fancy at all but affordable. the restrooms are not the cleanest.... you pass up trash cans of food and grease and what ever they throw away on the way to them because the kitchen is in view as you go to them........but if your not there for their restroom trip the food is delicious.

If you're like me, you go eat where the locals go eat because you want the real deal. Yee's is authentically Chinese to its core. This place is not about decor, its not about changing the menu to cater to Western taste buds. This is a Chinese restaurant for Chinese people and those that love real Chinese food. Full stop. For the adventurous eater there are many tasty "bits" to try from the Chinese barbecue selection along with the a stellar Peking style duck and crispy pork. Honestly the window display had my mouth watering and when I peered in and saw full of Chinese people (and hardly any Westerners) I knew I found a gem. I came in by myself and wishes I had others with me so I could order more dishes everything looked so good. So if you want the real deal, you MUST try Yee's and bring your friends so you can order plenty of dishes. You won't be disappointed.

We had 7 dishes which included sweet/sour chicken, curried beef, squid, roast duck, noodles and bbq ribs. All the food was excellent and good size portions. The prices are reasonable and service was very quick.

Come for the food. Not the ambience. Great duck/goose. There is a set meal costing $24.99 - 3 dishes, 1 soup and Chinese dessert. You get to choose the 3 dishes amongst 20+. More than enough for 3 hungry people. This is a restaurant that specializes in simple dishes. The more lavish ones....not necessarily the best/freshest but certainly value for money. The simple dishes are the likes of barbecued meats over rice and Wonton noodles. Service was prompt and efficient.

Visiting China Town in San Francisco and decided to try this place because the food on the display looked good. The menu was so extensive that was a little confusing. Servers were not friendly at all but maybe that has to be with their culture. Our waiter seemed to be rushing us and did not help. The food was OK not bad but nothing to remember either. I had roasted goose and egg noodles in oyster sauce and my husband had roasted pork spare ribs and white rice.

This is undoubtedly the nastiest Chinese food I have ever had in my life. Avoid the lunch special at all costs or risk mystery meat and limp vegetables galore. We had to ask for a reduction in price because we literally touched nothing on our plates save some rubbery noodles, the only thing stomachable. Felt sick after too- just don't come here.

we stumbled upon this place - looked at the chickens in the window and saw the place was packed with locals. the pork ribs were delicious. the sweet and sour soup was more on sour side. we thought it good but might not be for everything. prawns and rice noodles were to die for.

We ate there 3 times. We had the duck, wanton chicken soup, sweet sour pork, chow fun chicken, fried rice my favorite was the Pekin spareribs the table next to us had them asked the waiter we ate the whole plate. The food is fresh have the cooked ducks, chickens and other foods hanging up in the window tourist stop and take photos. We have been going there for years. The restaurant is very busy at noon we tried to go around 1 PM.

No-frills, authentic place, we liked it. It reminded us of our travels in Asia. Everything was authentic: service (so un-American!), food, atmosphere and prices. Mostly Chinese patrons. The food was not haute cuisine, but very tasty and excellent value.

This is a classic, old-school San Francisco Chinatown eatery and that’s what we were searching for. With the assistance of Yan a lovely old Asian man just walking by and who overheard our conversation, he led us to this restaurant. Yan (a retired school teacher) advised the restaurant has been around for years and caters for locals and the knowledgeable tourists that stumble across it. The quality of food is terrific and the prices are so unlike many eateries that we frequented on our holiday. The duck was one of the best that I have tasted and the Sour Soup was delicious, veggies are fresh and crispy. The only fault was that the fried rice was a little too oily but everything else was perfect.

Went to Yee's Chinese restaurant for the first time as it is further down Grant Ave. towards Broadway than I normally venture to. Very pleasantly surprised at the quality, quantity and selection of dishes. All at a very affordable price. Would highly recommend to locals as well as visitors to the City.

We over ordered so we could taste several dishes. All were good, but the duck was our favorite. Many locals here.
Don't be put off by the slightly scruffy looks, the food is great and at amazing prices!
So to be clear, this is a basic Cantonese Chinese eatery - functional, perhaps unattractive in appearance, but on the food front it does deliver - stick to their key dishes and you won't go wrong! Also, choose the $20.99 for 3 dishes menu if there is at least three of you as its the best value. Though the a la carte menu is dead cheap anyway! We really liked the Beef Stew with turnip, Pork Spare Ribs in salt 'n pepper, Hotpot with tofu 'n prawns. Also the Wonton & Noodles soup with duck. For the three of us we ordered 3 dishes plus 3 bowls of rice (at $1 each), got free 'house soup' and oranges for dessert, and the bill came to $24 plus tip, $29 !! Amazing !
