Good food and a lively atmosphere make this a very pleasant restaurant. Excellent and friendly personnel that works very hard make sure that everything is running smoothly here.

I have never eaten food from Yemen before, so I cannot say whether it is authentic or not. However, it was quite tasty. The portions were huge, the prices were reasonable, the service was excellent, the restaurant was clean. We found the complimentary lamb broth and salsa to be a nice surprise. They open early for lunch which is very hard to find in a middle eastern restaurant in NYC! Since we were trying to eat before a flight, we were very grateful that they were open.

My Son and I stopped here for Lunch 8/1/15 while on a trip to the NY Transit Museum. We were both overjoyed that I looked up places to eat the day before and picked the Yemen Cafe! The Staff goes out of their way to be helpful and explain the dishes and also to give you an insight into their Country and Culture. Their food was just outstanding. My son had lamb and I had chickhen , both melt in your mouth soft. I have to say that the lamb was the best. I'd gp as far as to say the best that either of us have ever eaten, We live in central NJ 10 minutes from the PA boarder but I know this place will be a regular on our list!! EXCELLENT

Good Arab.

I have been all over the world.... To be honest THIS IS THE BEST YEMENI RESTAURANT EVER... You must try the meet called ((Haneeth)) with rice Also the (( meat Fahsah )) Yum yummmmy... Also there is the (( Fatah )) which is sweaty with honey cream and dates

We were very pleased with the tasty dishes we were treated at Yemen Cafe. The restaurant had a very authentic feel and food very pleasing to the taste buds. If you're interested in trying something different while in town, definitely give Yemen Cafe a go!

Stopped here for an early dinner, and after reading some of the previous reviews wasn't sure what to expect especially regarding the service. But, we had no issues at all here. The waiter was quick, salad followed by soup was out before we could blink, and the main entree was out before we could even finish the soup. Service was extremely good on the day we went, better than most restaurants by far. The lamb soup had great flavor, and both of our dishes (Haneez Rice w/Lamb and Roasted Chicken Rice) were perfectly cooked. The meat was falling off the bone in both dishes because it was so tender. And, after 5-6 refills of the Yemeni tea, we could only finish about half our dishes. We barely saved room for dessert, and enjoyed the dish which was like a bread pudding with honey and some black sesame seeds on the top. It was a big portion too. I also have to note that the restaurant was clean, including the bathrooms (a good indicator to me on the cleanliness of any restaurant).

My friends and I tried this restaurant because of the very good Trip Advisor reviews. The portions were very large and tasty .... except one dish (Lamb Agda....short on flavor but the lamb was soft as butter). The food came very quickly but it was a challenge having our glasses of water refilled and getting the check. The restaurant was packed from the time we arrived until we left. So getting the attention of the waiter was understandable. I recommend this restaurant and will definitely return.

The Yemen Cafe is located in the midst of one of the international communities in Brooklyn. You can find cuisine all over the world, but I'd be shocked if there is any better than here. The lamb is truly fall-of-the-bone tender, and the chicken is juicy and spiced to perfection. Every sense takes you on a trip to Yemen, from the aromas to the decor to the friendly staff. It can be hard to find a table if you come during peak hours, so be prepared to wait a few minutes. But it's worth it in my opinion, because it's the best Middle Eastern food I've ever had!!

Authentic Yemeni food. The fact that it was jam-packed with Mddle Eastern customers was a good sign. No frills, just great wholesome food and very reasonable pricing. Staff were "functional but polite". Food was very, very tasty. Portions were generous, atmosphere was lively. Recommended.

When I was heading here, it turned out my cab driver was Yemeni. He was pumped this is where I was heading and ordered lunch there too. He said it's the best Yemeni restaurant in the US. I went twice and both times it was excellent. The staff was busy, but incredibly nice and helpful. If you haven't had Yemeni food before, this would probably be the best introduction because the staff are very proud of the food and happy to share a slice of their culture. Can't wait to go back.

I ate there once, I ordered "haneez" many people recommended it for me..very very delicious, with the best rice you can eat....after fininshing my rice" which already was enough, but becuse I liked it I ordered another plate" they served another rice plate for free... don't expect fancy service, but if you wanna try a good example of the Gulf area cusine..this is the best choise in my opinion, I have already lived in Saudi Arabia and Yemen d=for many years..and they really make tatsy yemeni food as you are exactly in Yemen. The salad and the broth were excellent..and teh price was about 22$ .

The food was excellent and the service was prompt considering how crowded it was at four o'clock in the afternoon. They have filtered water, lamb-based spicy soup, and a green salad with delicious spicy dressings. These are all brought to you in turn with no ordering. Then they come for your entree choices, which are all ways of cooking lamb or chicken. The naan bread is also replenished throughout the meal. The chicken was bite sized on a bed of fresh made hummus. Very tender and tasty. The roasted lamb was so tender and flavorful served with basmati long grain rice with a vegetable sauce. I asked for more of the sauce which they brought without charge. Very nice experience!

After reading all the great reviews, I decided to try this restaurant as a change of pace from Sultan (my go-to place on Atlantic). The atmosphere was casual but nice adorned with pictures of the Yemen countryside (pre-bombing). I got the Lamb Haneeth. The lamb was fork-tender and the flavors of the stew/sauce were great and unlike what I have had in other Middle Eastern restaurants. Dinner was about $30. I really enjoyed it and would return.

The Yemen Café has amazingly delicious food. We started off with a bowl of mareg, which is a tasty broth. We ordered the haneeth (lamb on a bed of basmati rice) The meat was so savory and tender, it just fell off the bone! We also had something called Saltah, which is a simmering soup/stew in a clay pot. You eat it by dipping the fresh flatbread. (The bread is so simple yet delicious by the way) The only (minor) complaint I had was that food came too quickly! I was still working on my soup when the salad came. Shortly after that, the Saltah came. Then the entrée came almost immediately after! The service was a little too good LOL. I would have liked to finish my soup and salad before the next plates arrived. Our table sure got crowded, but it was full of delicious food, so I can't complain too much. The décor is not fancy; it is simple and clean. There is some art on the walls and a nice fish tank. The bathrooms are clean, too. Staff is very friendly, bravo!

The restaurant looked like a modest restaurant, but its reputation was good, so i decided to go and check it out. It was really good food and the portion was big enough. They served a very tasty soup and the grilled chicken and lamb was amazing. However, I think their customer service could be improved dramatically. I was standing there for a while before I was being asked to be seated and the waiter just gave me the menu and left without smiling talking or greeting us. I noticed that it wasn't personal but it was his personal attitude to everyone. I think they should be guided to welcome customers.

While we have eaten lots of Middle Eastern food before, never food from Yemen. This is a lovely cafe with a friendly staff and terrific food. Reasonably priced, as well. Don't miss the lamb. Soup and bread are both delicious.

My husband and I live in Washington DC and made a trip to NYC for the weekend with the sole purpose to visit Yemen Cafe and Restaurant, as we lived in Sanaa for a whlie and miss authentic, Yemeni food. Yemen Cafe and Restaurant was perfect! The foul was absoluting amazing and I wish I could it here in DC. We shared a chicken haneeth and it was also delicious; next time I'll try the lamb haneeth which everyone else raves about. We also got soup as an appetizer (they just brought it out) and it was amazing! Can't wait to be back in the Brooklyn area so we can go back.

If you love lamb it's a place to go. Lamb hanith is great, served with rice, veggies, salad, lamb soup and amazing house-baked bread! And spiced tea is great too. Service is fast, food is amazing and staff is friendly.

The Yemen Cafe serves first rate Arab food. The foul is excellent as are the houmos and babba. The star of the show is the bread, baked on the spot, hot and puffy. Never saw that anywhere. He gave us free tea and coffee. A very pleasant experience

Today, we went there for lunch with friends. It was our first time to try Yemen's cuisine and we had the best lamb meat we ever had! The meat we simply too soft to chew it simply melts in your mouth. The flavor was strong yet smooth. Highly recommended.

This place is run by observant Muslims, so not only do they not serve beer and wine, they won’t even let you bring your own. We opted for takeout. The layout is very simple, a long and narrow room with Formica tables. We waited about 15-20 minutes for our $65 order, three unexpectedly heavy bags that we toted home. They gave us enough bread to feed an army, six 12-inch pita loaves, about 2 pounds’ worth. It was dense, chewy, flavorful, and thankfully not loaded with oil. The appetizer called “Foul” ($8) was one of two grand standouts, with great depth of flavor. Basically a purée of mashed fava beans, onions, and tomatoes; only the bean skins were still whole. When people eat a dish this tasty, they usually become very quiet and thoughtful. It seemed to lose some flavor later, however, after it had cooled. The other appetizer, well-sautéed diced Lamb Liver ($8), was generously meal-sized at about 6-7 ounces of meat, and delicious. I doubt if beef liver lovers could tell the difference. We got three mains. Lamb Haneez ($19) was advertised as roasted but we thought it had been braised. The portion was beyond generous, an entire shank plus a piece of shoulder. We put it in a bowl with the vegetables, the wonderful seasoned rice, and some of the 4 cups of yummy lamb broth provided on the side. You make a stew out of it and mm-mm-good! Chicken Loubia ($15) was a stewed chicken with vegetable and plain rice, overcooked and ho-hum. The Chicken Salta ($15) was the other star performer and came in three parts which we assembled. First came a rich stew base of vegetables and “lamb sauce” with a generous dose of ground lamb. Then the chicken of choice, in our case roasted to a turn. Then a topping of foamy whipped fenugreek, which tasted slightly bitter like almond pits. (Tip: it settles, so stir it up before adding to the Salta.) Totally off-the-wall-strange to us and absolutely terrific. Oh yes, they also gave us two lettuce & tomato salads. We ate our fill and had enough food left for another meal. For foodies with a big appetite and a small budget, this place can’t be beat.

Complimentary appetizers and unlimited hot flat bread. Bread was awesome. I got the Kabsa, which is rich with meat and my wife got the Hanees which is meat that was cooked slowly for 5 hours or so. Both dishes were great. I liked my dish more so did my wife:) Not a fancy place but service was fast and food was yum. Huge portions too at a reasonable price!

This is one of the best restaurants in the area. The menu is classic Yemeni and the traditional foods are delicious.

We just arrived in Brooklyn and took a yellow cab to our hotel. The driver was from Bosnia, but was also a cook, and he was really enthusiastic about the menu and flavors of the Yemen Cafe, which is near our hotel. We took his advice and went there for dinner, and really loved it!! They have a dozen different kinds of lamb- and I wish we could have tried them all- but we settled on the Lamb Haneeth, which they say is their most popular dish. Our taxi driver told us the servings were large, and this single serving fed both of us generously with some left over. The lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender, and so flavorful, and was served with a larger serving of very flavorful long-grain basmati rice. It was a wonderful meal! And I should mention they bring you a bowl of lamb broth with a huge piece of fresh-baked bread when you sit down- that was a great way to start. And then for dessert we tried a special Yemini dish made of torn up bread, spices, honey and cream. It was delightful. It wasn't quite sweet enough for our taste, so we added a little sugar, but it was really special. And the Yemini iced tea was also very nice. It had a number of spices in it, such as cardamom, cinnamon and others, which made it very tasty. It was a great start to our New York visit, and we must might go back there again before we leave.

Lamb haneeth plate at times can be the best meal you will ever eat. Sometimes it's just good. They give you a side of salad with an excellent sauce. Also they give you a large bread and soup. Seating is comfortable and employees are respectful. Best time to eat here is when it's busy. This means each plate with will piping hot!

I had a get together of 15. Few kids. The staff held our reservation as we were late and treated us with patience. They never rushed us and we had a great time. The food was good. The meat is cooked perfectly. Don't bother with chicken unless you have to, because the lamb is out of this world. Definitely go for the hummus with lamb you will eat the whole topping. Space isn't that abundant so do go prepared. The staff is ver accommodating.

Good food. Large portions. The flatbread was fresh and the hummus tasted great. A must try is the Yemen tea. It was wonderful. I will definitely be returning. My advice is to go there hungry.

My family and I really enjoyed visiting this restaurant , we had baba ganoush, hummus, mixed grill, chicken and lamb haneez All were excellent , freshly cooked and delicious not to mention great price and fast service The restaurant is crowded but they seat u in no time.

Great restaurant! The bread keeps coming - we had lamb soup, hummus, Chicken Zorbian, Haneez Rice, Massloug Rice - lamb was wonderful - fell off the bone, nicely spiced. Chicken and rice dishes were delicious too - great, attentive service.

I was staying with friends nearby, so we walked a few blocks and arrived about 8 pm on a busy Friday evening after services ended at the nearby mosque. The dining room was crowded but lively, and we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. As soon as we were seated they brought a tray with hot flatbread and a spicy sauce. The soup was very good, flavored with cumin and turmeric. The salad was simple, with a vegetable dressing that had a subtle touch of chilis. One of our party ordered the lamb shish kebabs and declared them delicious. Her husband and I ordered the lamb haneeth which came on a bed of rice and nicely spiced sauce. The lamb was falling off the bones. Servings were large, so we ended taking some home for late night snacking. In spite of the Friday night rush, service was great. It was quite noisy but we expected that on a busy night. I'd go back again if I visit NYC again.

Yes we live in Manhattan and the restaurant Brooklyn, we all enjoyed our meals service great every thing excellent the whole bill of 10 and our total cost is 190 us $ over all the Restaurant Deserve to go for

I was taken to Yemen Cafe by a friend, felt a little bit weird cause I was the only woman in the place and it was about 3 pm. Not sure if I would feel comfortable there by myself but my friend who speaks Arabic, took care of the order and everything else. The service was really friendly but I just didnt speak with them. It doesnt change my opinion though - it's a 5 star place to eat. Great food! Authentic and tasty. Recommended!

It’s one the best food and very good service. Soup is complimentary but so delicious! Chicken is great. Good place to have lunch / dinner. Parking is not so easy to find but you can walk from Brooklyn Bridge Park/ Pier 6 ferry terminal

Came here for lunch with my better half after she had told me about this place for so long and I could not have enjoyed it more. The food is delicious; the prices are very adequate and affordable; the quality of the food is amazing and to wrap it up, Yemen Cafe is simply the real deal. Can’t wait to come back here on our next visit. Thank you!

Great middle eastern food. I love everything on the menu, although the lamb platters are likely the best. Don't miss out on the appetizers either (and branch out beyond the hummus / babaghanoush). Suggest sharing 1 appetizer and 1 main dish per each 2 people.

I love this place! Simple, delicious food. Lovely atmosphere, almost like being in someone's home. Wonderful fresh bread. Soup, salad and spicy sauce served to everyone prior to your main meal. Sweet tea available on tap. Very reasonably priced. Friendly, respectful crowd. My absolute favourite restaurant in NY and an instant tonic to any homesick feelings for the Gulf.

The food was good but the portion was smaller than the Bay Ridge Yemen Cafe. The 4% credit card surcharge is totally unacceptable. I was so angry I reduced the waiter's tip by an equivalent amount. If others follow me, you will lose your waiter. You have already lost me as a customer.

Enjoyable food, friendly service, familial atmosphere. We enjoyed our visit to Yemen Café at Brooklyn. In particular, Lamb Haneeth was delicious. What on the other side, really irritates me is that the cashier added tip without asking or at least informing me about it. The guy at the counter didn’t mention even when I left tip in cash, on top of it. I don’t know, how it is in the USA, in Europe, it is more or less criminal, to tamper with the bill without the permission of the guest. It is absolutely unethical if not outright felonious. If it is not being done by the active consent of the management/owner, this practice must be stopped forthwith. It was totally unnecessary to spoil otherwise a pleasant trip.

My son took his mother and I there (well, actually, in the end, we took him there at his suggestion, if you catch my drift). It was this past week-end (3/15/25) which was at the end of Ramadan, so we were eating when the sun set, and that in it itself was an experience as the patrons were awesome, watching them come together just before sunset, the love and the friendship, my gosh. Sorry, I digress, our son took us there for the food, of which I had never tasted and was, to be honest a little skeptical as I have an issue with spicy food (no worries here). The restaurant was full with a line waiting when we arrived, a little rain outside, but we waited, and boy was it worth it. Starters, SOUP, ahhhhhhh, SALAD, excellent dressing, excuse me here, this is where I become ignorant, never having eaten this style of food before, I am not sure of the proper name, but for argument's sake, the 'bread' was spectacular. Then there was the tea, golly, we haven't even reached the entree yet and I am in heaven. I ordered the Lamb Haneeth (huge lamb meat lover here) as my entree, and to tell you the truth, after 60+ years of eating Lamb, this has spoiled me, I live 2500 miles away from here and it will cost $1000 to be able to come back to taste something this perfect. If you live anyway near this place (like within 100 miles or more) you need to stop in, relax with some tea and enjoy the culture, it was truly, truly an experience. I could go on, but I am drooling just remembering the food. I have no pictures to share, but those that are on this site are spot on.

I want a job at this restaurant I am from Yemen I have a bakery master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master master

This is a simple neighborhood cafe filled with locals. Upon being seated we were immediately served lamb (broth) soup and freshly baked naan-style bread. Both were excellent. We then had fassolia and lamb haneeth which was also excellent. The bread keeps coming throughout the meal - fresh and hot. We left this restaurant having eaten way too much and wishing we could have eaten more.

Great food, great value, very tasteful, lots of spices, the tea there is wonderful you pour it for yourself. Not a huge restaurant but worth going to.

We left the Brooklyn Museum very much in the mood for Middle Eastern cuisine and thought we would find some on Atlantic Avenue, on the block that also has Sahadi's food store and the Damascus Bakery. Sadly, though the neighborhood is gentrified, most of the Arab restaurants have disappeared, so we tried the Yemen Café. Yemeni food, we found out, is not the same as Arabic food, but it is delicious, and the restaurant, with its bustling environment and its warm and welcoming staff, is an experience in itself. As soon as we sat down, we were served a large hot pita and some spicy sauce and before we could order, hot bowls of a thin, wonderfully spiced pea soup was in front of us. The main dishes were enormous and delicious, among them a perfect chicken kebab and a savory chicken and rice dish. Only my vegetarian friend was disappointed: while her hummus was excellent, her order of shakshouka turned out to be scrambled eggs, not quite what she expected. We noticed people filling up on the cold water themselves and that next to the cold water was an urn of hot liquid. This turned out to be Yemeni tea, very sweet and spiced with cardamom. It made a wonderful dessert. Though we live far from Brooklyn, we plan to be back again and again. The Yemen Café is an experience not to be missed.

I loved the food here. It was really delicious and the soup was amazing. My favorite dish was the salad. The dressing tasted really good too! I would love to go here again. I wish there was one near me.

Please eat at this restaurant if you have never had food from Yemen. It's amazing. The Haneez is incredible (roasted lamb)--try the loubia and the salta and zorbian, too, and the hummus is the best I've ever had. The tea is terrific as is the soup and salad--all generously shared. And the huge servings of bread are freshly baked all the time. It's all most impressive. The service is superb. Mahmoud is a super waiter with good recommendations for the diner new to Middle Eastern food. Prepare to dine, not just eat. You cannot rush this amazing culinary experience. Worth finding this gem of a restaurant amongst all the jewels in New York.

We were visiting Brooklyn and on a budget. This place was amazing. Food was unique and very tasty. Portions are very large. My wife and I shared one appetizer and one entree and couldn't even finish it all. Total cost $34. Each meal comes with bread and a salad. Most of the customers were Arab, and I am guessing Yemeni, which is a sign the place is authentic. Open late until 2am.

I enjoyed Yemen's menus. The meat / lamb is tender with very good taste. The hot tea is so nice. I love it and will be back again.

It's hard to add anything to the other 5-star Trip Advisor reviews. We stayed at a hotel in the area, walked over and could not have been more pleased. Definitely worthwhile. Great great tea.

FOOD GREAT ! delicious and very great service My wife and I decided to travel To a few places and this is one of the nicest and cleanest place New York beautiful

You don't need to go all of the way to Yemen to get authentic home cooked Yemeni food. This little restaurant in Brooklyn is a gem. Ordered the Haneez and the lamb was incredibly tender with amazing flavor. The Yemeni bread is fresh from the oven and melts in your mouth. Tip:Go early if you do not want to wait. We were there on a Monday night around 6:30 and there were only a few people dinning. By the time we left around 8:00 there was a line out the door.

Get anything lamb. The meat falls off the bones and the stews are sooo flavorful! My girlfriends and I go here once every few months. The food is delicious and authentic. We love that they have tea after your meals for you. There aren't that many Yemeni Restaurants around so we cherish this spot alot.

The restaurant was full of customers of Arabic ethnicity which is evidence that the food is authentic and very good quality. Service is super quick, even for items that require a long time for preparation since they kitchen keeps everything ready in advance. Prices are very reasonable - it costed us less than USD 100 for a sumptuous meal for 4 of us. Certainly deserves a much higher rating on TripAdvisor

This restaurant has tasty food, in a completely underwhelming setting. It is sort of run like a cafeteria. So if you are looking for something different pick one of the other numerous restaurants in the area. However, if you want to try food from Yemen this is the place to do it.

Eating here is the closest you will get to being transported to an eating house in the souks of Yemen. The majority of the visitors are from the middle-east, many of the women dressed in hijabs. I thought that we may be made to feel uncomfortable, but this was no the case and the staff were immensely warm and welcoming and looked genuinely pleased to see us. Every customer is given a complementary bowl of lamb soup when they arrive, which is very tasty. The food is as you would expect similar to other middle-eastern countries, but highly authentic. A pleasurable dining experience and incredible value. This is a unique place.

It's a cross between India and Arabic food. You will find the fall of the bone lamb, masala rice and very wheaty type if roti/Naan. I highly recommended.

Nice place to hang out with friends. Fast food and beverages are very good. Sitting was awesome. Must visit.

Authentic Yemeni food. Don't be put off by the no-frills décor. Friendly staff, boisterous atmosphere (at least on a Saturday night when we went). And the food! They start you off with marag, a wonderful lamb broth (and I don't even like lamb) and clay oven baked Yemeni flatbread that resembles a naan. You'll want to eat every bite of this warm, delicious bread, but not to worry: your waiter will just bring you more. If you like lamb, you're in for a real treat. You cannot go wrong with the lamb haneeth or saltah. Lamb not your thing? No problem, plenty of chicken dishes to choose from. All wonderfully spiced in the traditional Yemeni way. The earthy stews are loaded with vegetables. Portions are huge, so be prepared to take home left overs. They were doing a brisk take out business while we were there, so that's an option when this small place is packed and the wait time for a table is too long for your liking.

Outstanding home style cooking. Copious portions including freebies. I just upgraded this app and it keeps going out on me so I am short on details. Terrific meal an highly recommended.

Mixed feelings about this place. It certainly looks authentic, and very popular among locals. Presentation is basic and food hearty. Probably too much rice, which becomes cold pretty soon. Some meat dishes were tasty and abundant, while others (like the chicken) were a bit dry or with little meat attached to the bone (lamb). Maybe a bit pricey considered the whole package.

Such good food!! Delicious bread, soup, and entrees. We had a group of vegetarians and meat-eaters and we were all satisfied. They had an issue with their credit card machine, so luckily we had cash, but other than that, it was great. The waiter was helpful and very responsive to requests. We will definitely go back

Very good restaurant and good rice and meats go go to this place and you will be come back again I love the food and the surrounding area .

This was my first time having Yemeni cuisine and it was delicious! We first arrived and were greeted with soup and fresh bread when we sat down. We ordered the lamb haneeth and hummus. I loved the lamb but the hummus was just ok for me. We also tried the tea (help yourself!) and harissa (for a charge) which was a real treat! It felt like you were walking down the streets as they had videos of people walking on tvs throughout the restaurant which was a fun new vibe. I was a little annoyed that I ordered while my bf wasn’t at the table and the order didn’t get placed until he was the one asking for it (twice!).

Where do I start? First the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. The staff goes out of its way to explain the different foods. The other diners were mostly Yemeni natives, but they made us feel like part of the family. I am used to grape leaves and hommus as Arabic food, so this was a giant change. Yes the ingredients are Middle Eastern, but the preparation and spices are phenomenal. Huge portions of feed, perfectly served. I LOVE THIS PLACE! An added bonus--the waiters do not try to rush you out after a meal, you can sit, digest your food, and converse with your party!

This is one of my favorite places to take friends because so few have ever experienced Yemeni cuisine. The haneez (roasted lamb) is tender, juicy and amazing, and for a vegetarian option, try the Salta, a stew of roasted vegetables (and the national dish of Yemen). Lamb segar is another favorite--tender morsels of meat sauteed with onion, tomato, and a devastatingly delicious combination of spices. Everything is served with khubz, a freshly-baked flat bread that will forever render commercial varieties inedible. The decor is fairly plain, and the service is friendly but can be on the slow side. However, for dinner you'll have lamb broth and salad to enjoy while waiting, and it's worth the wait--the time that goes into the preparation of the food yields an incredible result.

I visited yemen cafe and restaurant with a friend for lunch. For starters, we have liver which was good. For main dish, we had lamb haneeth which was really delicious, while the lamb mgalgal was not bad

Excellent food at affordable prices. You get free tea and bread with your meal. The place feels very authentic and I liked the diner vibe. I loved how well they spiced the food and how friendly everyone seemed, highly recommend and will be back!

Yemen Café has been one of my favourite spots in Brooklyn for the past 3 years. The menu is full of creative and flavorful chicken and lamb dishes. They also have vegetarian, fish and other options. Great for a big group and everything is best when shared! The portions are large so I don't think you need 1 entrée per person unless you're very hungry! The meal also starts with complimentary lamb broth soup, salad and bread! Be sure to finish off your meal with the Fattah with Honey (listed in the appetizer section of the menu, but it's actually a dessert!). This dish is so rich and sweet, it can easily be shared between 4 people as you'll probably only want a few bites. Can't recommend this place enough - an amazing Brooklyn gem that's been around since the 80s. Definitely worth a trip from Manhattan if you're looking for authentic restaurants!

The food here is absolutely mouth watering and delicious. The portions are generous and very great value for the money. The food is consistently great and cooked perfectly. Highly recommend this place!

We loved it! Food was absolutely delicious and they kept it coming. Started with a free soup that had a little kick. Then the most amazing giant pizza size pita with crunch and pillow softness too. Had that with tasty baba ghanoush (eggplant spread) that was the best I’ve had as I’m not usually a fan. The lamb dish with a tomatoey sauce was delectable and the most succulent ever. I stuffed myself! No ambience because it was PACKED! And most people were clearly Muslim and of Arab descent which tells you the food is authentic (also no booze so be aware). If you like ethnic food, go, you won’t be disappointed.

The food was amazing, I drive 7 and 1/2 hours to come to this restaurant. Their aren't Yemen restaurants where I live.i was pleased that the food was authentic and the company was nice. I would definitely come here again.

Awesome food and excellent service. It has an authentic yemeni atmosphere. The ambience is rustic Yemeni and hence the food is also authentic. We tried their chicken Luboia out was excellent. Their lamb soup that they give complementary was a perfect food for this cold wintery day. It is a very moderately priced with large dish sizes. Bread is free!

Great restaurant with delicious food . It's one of the greatest restaurant I ate and he is the best Arabic restaurant in New York

we went for an early family dinner, the service was excellent and the food was a dream, the fresh bread is so good and the lamb and chicken was terific, this is a typical no frills middle eastern resaurant but serving magnificent food at good prices

This is a very popular place so based on the time you arrive you may have to wait for a table to become available. You’ll notice is mostly groups of friends and families. Staff is friendly and helpful. Service is quick once your order has been taken. There is complementary tea which you serve yourself. Everyone gets a complementary salad. We had the lamb soup which was tasty. It’s more of a consommé. The flat bread that comes with soup is fresh and delicious. We ordered two chicken dishes which were delicious and just the right portion. Prices are reasonable so you will not be disappointed.

This place is quite something!! Fresh food, delicious fresh water served ice cold in chilled silver glasses (great on a hot summer day) . . . authentic Middle Eastern cuisine! When you walk in you are met with the smell of delicious spices, freshly baked clay oven bread, and a special kind of homemade tea that is unique to Yemen. The servers are warm and welcoming, and the restaurant is thoughtfully decorated. The hummus, baba ghanoush, complimentary soup, fatah with honey, and chicken agda (loubia) are incredible!!

Prices are good with this place serving stews and dips representative of Yemen. I never had this food before but was spicy and delicious. Will return again. Very low key relaxing place.

The restaurant may not look that great, but the food tastes great! Loved the complimentary soup! Worth a visit if your in the neighbourhood ! Authentic yemen food!

You need to be told about this restaurant because it is not an obvious choice from the outside. A simple place with great food, the dishes (I assume) are typical since I have never eaten Yemen food before. The portions are enormous so go hungry or expect to share dishes. At lunchtime it is a lot of food. The bread is delicious. We ate lamb and chicken along with a vegetable appetizer and it was more than enough. Very tasty. Try the Yemen iced tea with a delicious spicy taste. Service was excellent and people are very friendly. A definite must if you are in Brooklyn Heights.

Wow. I can't say enough good things about my experience here. Yemen cafe serves authentic middle eastern food. We ordered (2 of us) Babaganoush and the house salad. They bring you soup for free (the lamb broth soup which tastes like a curry soup) and then we shared the Lamb Haneeth which is their most famous dish. The huge piece of lamb comes with rice and deliciousness on top of the rice. Then they give you a giant pita plus limes and a homemade sauce. That was our lunch and the price was only $25. I'm so glad we just decided to share because otherwise it would have been way too much food. The restaurant is fairly big inside. Lots of tables. We went at 12:30 and were the only ones in there for a while and then by 1pm it got crowded! You seat yourself and get your own water or tea. They will come wait on you. If I'm going to Brooklyn Heights or downtown brooklyn and I'm in the area I would hands down choose this place over all the places on Montague street!

Truth be told, we have been coming here for years, but have not gotten to Brooklyn as much recently. Last week, we got back in tribute to Grandma who is as knowledgeable foodie as there is. This was her place! Sorry for the repetition, as I saw my fellow reviewers gave a shout out to Lamb Hanith and the Lamb/lentil soup. The multiple shout outs are well deserved. They do serve a lot of the Middle Eastern standards, however, it is the unique Yemeni offerings that set them apart. Service was friendly and great as usual.

We ate (4 people) outside. They offered soup and bread for appetizers, which hit the spot on a cool day. They brought out more bread with the entrees. I had the lamb, which fell off the bone as advertised and was tender, but not extremely flavorful. The rice with vegetable sauce was a unique pairing that I enjoyed. The staff was friendly. The indoor restaurant has a good vibe of a family owned establishment.

The best food you could ever eat in NYC without traveling to the middle east. Haneez is my favorite. Very clean and friendly staff. I've been eating in this place for decades band its nothing but the best

A simple, no frills restaurant with large food portions. Had the famous Chicken Saltah, which is a stew with vegetables, topped with a frothy fenugreek paste, which makes it really delicious. It is served in a clay pot, with a half chicken portion alongside, and a tandoor bread. The dish comes with a salad and a side of lamb broth. That is a lot of food, with a great possibility of leftovers .. Service is gracious . The Yemeni tea is amazing...

loved the food, wish the restaruant was bigger. seemed crowded to me. I like the sumac especially. down to earth vibe.

I first saw Yemen cafe while passing by in a taxi. Having never been to Yemen I was hoping that the place would have a somewhat authentic feel of the country and the people, and not just be about the food. I wasn't disappointed at all. It's an inexpensive, non fancy cafe with great food and some interesting pictures about Yemen. The service was excellent and the complementary appetizers are quite amazing. Excellent place to visit.

This restaurant had been in our “to try” list for a long time so we combined a visit with a walk around the Brooklyn Bridge. We loved the complementary Maraq, a lamb broth soup seasoned with cumin served at the beginning of the meal, just perfect with a squeeze of lemon, spicy sauce (meant for the salad and more of a weak Spanish pico de gallo) and the fresh, chewy and still warm flatbread. I ordered Lehm Segar described as “minced tender lamb sautéed with onions, tomatoes & served with warm clay oven bread.” The lamb was anything but tender, and the sauce although tasty was dry. I will not be ordering that again. My husband had better luck as he ordered Chicken Salta, totally delicious!! Salta as it turns out is Yemen’s national dish, a rich, thick, lamb broth and vegetables stew spiced with chilies, tomatoes, garlic and herbs served in a steaming, super (I repeat) super hot clay bowl. The stew is topped with whipped fenugreek, which adds a cool and slight bitterness (it does not last long once is stirred). A piece of roasted chicken was served with the Salta, which we wrapped around pieces of flatbread and dipped on the stew. Definitely a great dish! We had several cups of the very hot and lovely sweet mint tea, very nice with the meal. A word of caution: Be open-minded, my feeling was that it is a very traditional Middle Eastern male oriented environment. I went to ask for a table and was basically ignored until I called my husband; no better luck calling the waiter either, my husband had to do that too!!!

I highly recommend this cafe. They greet you with hot soup and fresh pita. The food was excellent. The people were friendly. The price was right. Don't miss out on this gem.

We were looking for something out of the ordinary while attending a meeting in Brooklyn Heights and found the reviews of Yemen Cafe intriguing, so we headed there for lunch. The setting was basic but clean, and the service friendly and helpful, especially when we asked for advice about what to try. Hot bowls of a deep, rich lamb soup called marag were brought to 'open the appetite'--and proved quite addictive, as were the hummos and hot, fresh flatbread. The roasted lamb with rice and veggies called 'haneeth' won raves, and I can recommend the chicken zorbian--a chicken and rice pilaf with subtle spice and fresh vegetables. Our server termed the lunch portions 'small,' but we found them quite generous, and extremely reasonably priced. Didn't have time to try the oft-mentioned spiced tea, but we hope to get the chance to do so on return trips. Go!

As soon as we walked into this very unpretentious restaurant & smelled the amazing aromas emanating around us, we knew we were in for a treat - we were not disappointed. Who could ask for anything better - an amazingly delicious dinner served by friendly staff at a very reasonable price!

Something for everyone at this eatery. The complimentary soup starter quenches your thirst immediately and the portion sizes mean everyone can what each other orders. Flavoursome and filling. In the heart of Brooklyn. Come and have a culture fusion experience. Loved it!

On a cold, windy day we were greeted with a complimentary cup of delicious hot soup and warm brick oven bread. This was a great start to a return lunch visit to this family owned restaurant in Brooklyn Heights Arab section. .In addition to Yemeni specialties a few traditional Middle Eastern dishes are also available. We are still exploring Yemen cuisine and enjoying it all. We were not rushed at all. Small groups of diners, families and business people served during our stay. We observed a continuous carryout/delivery service as well. . Good service, friendly atmosphere, and informal. Definitely will return.

Food had no taste and it was over priced for no reason. I actually hyped it up so much because it used to taste so much better and Im embarrassed now because it wasn’t what I expected

From the moment we stepped through the door I felt like we were in the Middle East. People speaking their own language, photos of Yemen and the food, well lets start there... The food was amazing!!! It tasted so authentic and fresh. The service was great, even though they were very busy, we were treated as if we were the only ones there. It's great for the price because of the amount of food you get per plate. I would eat there all the time if I lived in NYC. And when I go back to NYC I will always make sure I stop to eat there every time.
