NEVER GO HERE

By Cathat57 |

This place is a s%*t box. Bad food, bad service, bad decor. People keep on going there and encouraging these people to serve subpar sushi at crazy high prices. Stop! Those guys behind the sushi bar are living in a fantasy world in which they can make sushi.

My roommate says it is the best sushi in town, which I have heard from quite a few people now.

Worth a Drive & a Wait

By Susie B |

We remembered the fabulous sushi @ this tiny hole-in-the-wall from a previous Portland visit. This is the only place we've ever had taka tuna like this: a crispy rice disk with avocado & spicy chopped tuna. An order contains two servings & is a meal in itself. The seaweed salad is served with marinated cucumbers as well. Very generous portion of warm edamame. Very busy spot. They do not do takeout!

Long long wait but tasty food

By Samantha S |

The wait was long and the staff seemed too busy to notice my husband and I. Very little communication about how long the wait would be. However, the food was pretty tasty and the local company was friendly and warm.

hipster dooface staff needs a swift kick in the.......

Horrible attitude with the staff. This place stinks like a back alley trashcan, dirty and a homeless/ drug addicted looking waitress. I've had better sushi at winco! Waaay overrated and way overpriced! Very negative vibe.

Quaint little place with great food

A small place but comfortable. No reservation accepted only sign in as you get there. This restaurant is worth the wait for sure. Good sushi menu with lots of varieties. They also have other dishes for those that are not into sushi. The alcohol menu is sufficient for a small restaurant. This is our first time here but other family members has eaten here several times. We start out with ordering various sushi (poke roll, Portland roll, Thai roll, cucumber roll, and eel sushi). We also order chicken karaage and yakisoba. Everything came out fast even thou the place is pack. All the sushi were great but the poke roll is a must so good. The chicken karaage were hot and tender on the inside and nice crunch on the outside. The karaage dipping sauce is awesome (sweet, salty with a surprising kick). The yakisoba was hot and very flavorful (maybe a little too much sauce for our liking but this is only our opinion other indicated that the more sauce the better). Overall it was a great experience and we enjoy all the delicious feast. The service was great and we left happy and full. The price I think is inline with other good local sushi place. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

Competent Hostess Needed

Yoko's has been my favorite sushi restaurant for 12 years. The service has always been questionable, but the seating tonight was ridiculous! When you are a small restaurant you need to manage your waitlist. We waited over an hour for a seat and watched people funnel in left and right that were on the list after us. What has happened to this establishment?

Great sushi - diverse and delicious rolls

By Fakeplant9 |

I have been to Yoko's several times with friends since moving to Portland last year and I have yet to find a better sushi joint in town. The thing that I like most about Yoko's is when they roll out (har de har) their special sushi -- they have had some great specials in the past, my favorite being the "Rasta Roll." I've requested this roll in the past even when it wasn't on the specials board and they made it for me regardless. The thing that I both like/dislike about Yoko's is that it is a very small restaurant, so you need to get there early to not get locked into a 45 min+ wait time. Nice thing is that the restaurant will call you when your table is ready and there is a bar located practically next door that you can hang out in and grab a beer while you wait. I recommend the "Walla Walla Roll."

Give me more Yoko Rolls!

Yummy yummy rolls. Excellent Udon. Cool music. Friendly locals. Relaxed sushi bar. Put your name on the list and go next door for a drink. After writing this review I think I'll head to Yokos tomorrow.

Yoko's, you're the only one for me

By Gina |

Hands down, the best sushi in Portland, Oregon. A resident Oregonian and Portlander from birth, I can tell you that people here LOVE to wait in line. Sometimes, they wait in line and have no idea what they're waiting for. I've stood in line for sushi elsewhere and it was never as exciting as the wait suggested it would be. Yoko's is the exception. Huge plus: You can put your name on the list and hit one of the nearby bars. Yoko's will call you when it's your turn to devour their delicious fare. Yoko's is solid as a rock. A delicious, delicious rock. Each time I go to Yoko's, I order something new in addition to the fan-favorites. The fish is always fresh, the soup is always hot, the tempura is always light and fluffy, you cannot go wrong choosing anything on Yoko's menu. The one piece of advice (food related) I have to offer is this: Get the Taka's Tuna. It is absolutely divine. A crispy rice patty, with a layer of avocado...melting into the crispy rice patty (true love) piled high with spicy tuna and a few green onions. Taka's Tuna is and will always be on our order. I have been a loyal Yoko's customer for years and never have they deviated in service or quality. I've introduced friends and family and they've always said, "How did we not know about this place?" or (my personal favorite), "Why have I never been here before?" Answer: You we're busy pledging allegiance to another sushi joint and don't like change. Don't be like them, go to Yoko's...you won't be sorry.

DELISH!!!

Hands down this is one of the best sushi places we've ever eaten. The food is fresh and the portions are great. You've got to try the Poke roll. YUM!! (TIP: Be sure to arrive close to 5pm -the time they open - as possibe as the lines get very long. But, you can give them your cell number when you check in and go visit one of the bars which are within walking distance and they will call you when your table is ready).

Local, small, but tasty

By new2pdx |

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Portland. Yes, it's small and not super fancy, and it may not have the widest selection, but everything on the menu is incredibly tasty and it's one of the more affordable sushi places in Portland. I suggest the broiled mussels, the poki roll and, if you like eel, the batman roll. The large hot sake on a cold night is a good deal. Local tip: the lines are often pretty long. Put your name on the waiting list with your cell phone number and go next door and have a drink at C-Bar, which is a chill, casual place with great drinks. They're used to people leaving abruptly for Yoko's and are very gracious about it.

Messy Sushi Rolls

By backpacker31 |

I eat sushi quite often and have spent considerable time in Japan, so I feel I’m more than familiar with how Japanese food should look and taste. Unfortunately, while I felt the fish was fresh and tasty with the menu offering up a nice selection of sashimi and rolls, the presentation and overall care into making our rolls was disappointing. The rice on the outside of the rolls didn’t cover the entire roll, therefore leading to rolls that would fall apart upon picking them up - the rolls needed to be rolled tighter. Service was attentive, yet not particularly friendly. Prices are reasonable. The place is small and our party of three had a short wait.

Fresh Neighborhood Sushi Spot

By SportsMom_11 |

Stopped by with my husband after looking for a sushi restaurant close by to where our son recently moved. We weren't disappointed. While the seating is limited, approximately 8-10 tight tables with a 8-10 person bar, our wait was less than 15 minutes. You sign in upon arrival and can chose to sit at either the bar or a table, or whichever opens up first. We sat at the bar. We ordered a selection of nigiri and rolls. The pieces were large, presentation was nice and all of the ingredients were super fresh. The service was efficient, not rushed, friendly and the atmosphere was cozy. We left full and happy, and hope to return in the future. Thank you!

Excellent little restaurant in SE Portland

Yoko's doesn't take reservations so show up early for a table. The C-bar next door is a fun place to have a drink and wait. Another reason to show up early is they sometimes close early, which is disappointing. The agadashi dofu, gonzo roll, rainbow roll and nigiri are delicious. The rice perfectly sticky and the sashimi is fresh. They have a decent sake list with a reasonable mark-up.

TINY BUT EXCELLENT ON SE GLADSTONE

By BULLDOG742014 |

A long wait, tiny and packed, uber-hip but worth the wait and the slightly edgy vibe. First class sushi, and good sakes and beers. Love the cartoon character sumo wrestlers on the serving ware. Go.

This place is the best. The service is spotty but still worth it because the sushi is so amazing. Make sure you get the Taka's Tuna because it's fantastic! It's probably my favorite sushi I've ever eaten.

one cold night, my family arrived to try this place out. We arrived at the time the restaurant opened; however, they would not open the door.. .even 10 minutes past opening time. The staff inside saw us standing on the sidewalk, freezing. We even gestured, nicely, as when they might open, but received a snear as their reply.

Very nice wait staff & good sushi

I thought they had a nice selection of sushi. The presentation was great, wait staff was friendly and helpful. Quick service. Fish was very fresh and tasty. When I'm back in Portland, we'll be back.

Best sushi in Portland

By SelectiveTraveler99 |

I live in Portland and have eaten at pretty much every sushi restaurant in town. Yoko's sushi is hands down the very best around. I often joke to my husband that on my deathbed I want Konami's Treasure, a Dynamite roll, Taka's Tuna, and a Walla Walla roll. There, now you have the names of the best of the best rolls they serve! Yoko's is always crowded so come early, put your name on the list, and go next door to C-bar for a beer. Chris will give you a call when your name comes up. They've done a bit of remodeling in the past six months, it's cozy and cheery. Staff is terrific. Yoko is the master and she and Jim consistently take great pride in what they create. Chris and Jessica are standout servers. Prices are in line with other sushi restaurants in town, not the cheapest (think marine polis sushi land) but not most expensive either (think Murata or Bamboo). Can't wait for my next meal there!

Best Sushi in Town

By tkincher |

It's a small place, and there's often a line waiting for them when they open. Very friendly place with great service and great food. I've been going to Yoko's for years and it's consistently top notch. I'm getting hungry thinking about it.

Excellent sushi!

By Andi R |

This was an outstanding dinner experience, complete with fresh red snapper nigiri, an interesting house special (Taka's Tuna with a fried rice base and minced spicy tuna and green onions), sake served room temperature in a traditional cedar box, and the freshest, most well-prepared seaweed salad I've ever had. We also enjoyed a sushi roll that was well-done. This place is great! The prices were reasonable, and it's a cozy, yet hip restaurant. Very cool bathroom with an infinite wave on the wall. The only complaint was very slow service, but they comped us the salad for that, which was very nice and professional. I'd definitely return. Love the puffer fish logo on the plates, too :)

Tried other places but keep going back for more

By Landmind |

The food is excellent and the sake is plentiful. I've tried sushi around town but keep Yoko's as a reference point for what great sushi in Portland really is. It is hard to get a seat but worth the wait. I recommend it for good weather days since waiting sometimes takes place outside. Interior has a warm tropical island feel to it.
