Excellent

By andmax2021 |

Excellent service. Food was very tasty and beautifully presented. Ambiance was comfortable, welcoming and nicely done (we especially liked the great light fixtures). We shared guacamole with pomegranate. Didn’t leave a morsel. And the chips were fresh and crisp. I ordered the Tacos de Pescado. Grilled white fish with Mexican slaw and other very complementary fresh ingredients as well as cilantro lime rice and calabcitas. I would recommend it. My friend had the fish of the day. Truly great presentation, smelled great, and really happy I was offered a taste. Excellent. Our other guest, we credit for selecting Yxta, ordered enchiladas and cleaned her plate as well. Too full for Postres…next time!

Okish Mexican

Thought this placed looked nice and had good reviews but think its a bit over rated, its not bad its just not anything special either. Also you have to go through a bit of a dodgy part of town to get there

Real Mexican

Real Mexican food and good atmosphere in this restaurant. Big space, comfortable and good service. A big, but not exaggerated, variety of dishes and drinks, fresh and tasty.

Outstanding Group Lunch

By JoshPhD |

We enjoyed an outstanding group lunch with about 18 participants. The meal began with chips, salsa and guacamole. Everything tasted fresh and made to order. The chips were unusual and unique. The salsa was a chipotle salsa which also tasted unique with just the right amount of heat. The guacamole was seasoned perfectly and incorporated pumpkin seeds - very interesting. All of the entrees were delicious. Seasonings were spot on. The group was served at the same time and each of the dishes was hot. It was not clear how the kitchen achieved this feat, but the did. It is very unusual that each person in the group insisted that their choice was the best at the table. What a first class problem to have. Dessert was quite interesting. The group shared three: flan, bread budding and churro ice cream. The clear winners were the churro ice cream the the bread pudding. The churro ice cream was a cinnamon ice cream that had bits of churro incorporated within. The bread pudding was steaming hot and remained streaming even as it was passed around the table some five minutes after it was served. I am looking forward to returning whether with a large group again or with a smaller, more intimate group.

Real Mexican Hidden Gem

By LALyndaD81 |

I visited this restaurant on the recommendation of the client for a meeting. It is located in not the best areas but offers valet parking for $2 during lunch and $4 for dinner. We were immediately greeted upon entering and because we had a reservation, were seated right away. Lunch time gets busy so reservations are recommended. It was extremely hot and muggy outside, 95 degrees, and unfortunately the restaurant wasn't much cooler. The decor and seating was very modern with classic Mexican accents. They have a full bar and yummy cocktails produced out of it. We decided on aguas frescas to help with the heat and because they are all so refreshing. The special was a barramundi dish with cucumber salad so I decided to go with that again since it sounded so refreshing and perfect for the hot day and it was recommended by the waiter. It was everything I hoped it would be. I wished there was more fish, not because the portion was small, but because it was so good. It was very busy but a great vibe that the staff contributed to. If I'm in the area again, I would definitely be visiting as there are many other delicious-sounding menu items and drinks I want to try.

Never a disappointing experience.

By j2garcia |

I always enjoy bringing friends to Yxta for their first time. They come expecting "regular" Mexican food and leave raving about the experience. Last Saturday was no different. I had the Mahi Mahi and I think it was one of the best fish plates I've ever had! My friends had the Carnitas and talked about how good it was throughout the meal! Also good are their wonderful mixed drinks! We were surprised that the restaurant was so crowded on a rainy Saturday evening. It's in a part of downtown that few folks know about, so they are surely building a following based on consistently good reviews.

Out of the way fantastic!

By Susan M |

I don't really like Mexican food but I would go through the skid row section of downtown to get here and have, three different times! The food and service are that good, I'd say great. The dishes have a richness and flavor to them that are unique. I don't like flan either but Yxta is the only place I'll have it. It has a slightly burnt caramel flavor and when eaten with the strawberry that accompanies it, you get an entirely new dimension of flavor. The food is truly excellent and the service has always been friendly and efficient. The location is sketchy and in an industrial, desolate part of downtown but Yxta does have its own parking lot in front of the restaurant. It's a hidden gem and worth the effort. It's closed on Sunday and is not a late night bar scene either. Just a great place to have dinner and an early drink.

Interesting and tasty!

By bluecarrot |

A unique take on Mexican food. They arent afraid to add spice or flavor like many places. The interior is decorated in bright colors and seemed initially a bit weird, but, strangely, it kinda matched the unique food and in the end seemed perfectly fitting! We had a great meal and a great time in a casual setting with better than casual food!!

NOT BAD INSIDE, BUT BE CAREFUL OUTSIDE

By ronald w |

Attended a work luncheon and was surprised at the choice because of the surrounding neighborhood. DO NOT PARK ON THE STREET as your vehicle is subject to vandalism by the many homeless and vagrant people occupying the sidewalks. I can only imagine what it is like at night. The food was only average Latin cuisine. I've had better and I've had worse. Nothing really stood out. The atmosphere is a little noisy (although it might be quieter in the evening). Not sure if I would return for lunch, but I would definitely be reluctant to visit at night.

Cocina Super!

By brsla2 |

LOVE! Think Industrial, great for friends, small family, drinks that are wonderfully creative and food that is fresh. It is tucked away in a part of LA you can drive or Uber to but don't be fooled-I would go back without hesitation. I was with a large group and we sampled as much as possible. Reasonably priced, clean, solid service, friendly, and this was in an inside table. Noise might be a factor but we didn't notice. Go on outside to the patio if that is a preference and the night is great. Everyone was very happy with their meal (we cruised the menu) and we ordered several different drinks as that menu is virtually hundreds of combos you may decide. Great choice

Not So impressed

By Mary P |

We went for Dine LA. My appetizer (Mexican toast) was really good; fresh and delicious! The entree was another story. I ordered the carnitas. I think the chef was having a fight with the salt - and the salt won! The carnitas were so over salted - it was inedible. I took it home a repurposed for tacos the next day. The desserts were Flan (very good but huge ) or Churros Ice Cream, which sounded really good, but was Vile! The service was excellent and attentive. Overall, it was fine but would probably not go back.

Just plain YUMMY

By Arknwarrior |

Yxta is one of the gems of the restaurant business hiding in downtown Los Angeles. My friend took me here, and I just can't say enough about how good the food is. The guacamole alone is unlike any I've had before. I had the mahi mahi special and my friend had the salmon and they were both excellent. The fish was cooked perfectly. The restaurant's ambience is casual and friendly. Parking can be a problem since the lot is small, but if you come early it should work out fine.

A Great Place for Mexican Food

By daddy1020 |

If you want a great place for Mexican food extremely close to Downtown Los Angeles, you need to come to YXTA COCINA MEXICANA. The restaurant is set in an almost warehouse looking environment, with all it’s charm. Francesca greeted us and brought us to our table. We were immediately approached by Amie, who not only was extremely friendly and cordial, she was also knowledgeable. She was quick to offer us the specialty drinks. She took our drink order (the mango margarita?…oh my)! She brought us the drinks very soon after with, along with a big bowl of house made tortilla chips….these are the best that we ever had. They come with a house made salsa, which was so flavorful. We didn’t have to wait to long at all for our meal. We had tacos and wow, were they good. They are served on a bed of chipotle mashed potatoes, which was a flavor treat on your pallet. Amie was so very attentive. She made sure that we had the best experience possible…and we did. You gotta check out YXTA. Your taste buds will thank you.

Amazing fine in the depths of downtown. Very tasty margaritas and Mole

By DocTraveler |

Went to the restaurant due to a BBE discount and ended up loving it. Great service, the salmon dish and chicken mole were amazing and the blood orange margarita was very fresh tasting and authentic. I highly recomend making the trek.

Quality Mexican Food

By journey45 |

Our meal started out with a classic Margarita on the rocks with salt. I must say, I was a little dissapointed that it was good, but not great. Next we had some guacamole which was excellent (perfect blend of red onion and cilantro) and well portioned. The chips are about as authentic as you can get and much thicker than what comes in a bag from the grocery store. For dinner my wife ordered the Enchiladas de Mole, which she wasn't thrilled with, but I thought was delicious. I ordered the Callos de Hacha for dinner which came with jumbo deep sea scallops which were big, fresh, and encrusted with pepitas. On top was a nice chipotle peppercorn sauce. Underneath the scallops were potato pancakes. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. We didn't have dessert because we were so full, but maybe next time and there definitely will be a next time.

A New Take on Mexican Dining

By Linda T |

Jesse Gomez's Yxta has brought a new high in Mexican cuisine to downtown L.A. It attracts customers from all over the city. Named after the owner's Loyola Law School professor, Yxta Murray, from rajas, squash blossoms, Salmon Creek natural pork and Jidori free range chicken and superb carnitas to some of the more traditional dishes, this restaurant never fails to please. Yxta occupies an industrial-looking building, but feels warm and inviting inside. A small, but lovely patio area is hidden from the parking lot ($1 at lunchtime; free at dinnertime) by attractive greenery. Jesse grew up in the restaurant business; his parents opened El Arco Iris on York Blvd. in Highland Park in the 1960s, and Jesse recently bought the restaurant, which continues to be a neighborhood favorite. But, with Yxta, he's gone in a new direction, and with his latest addition, Mercado, on 4th Street in Santa Monica, he continues the journey. One of the things that impresses me most about Yxta is the professionalism of the wait staff. It's obvious that they've been well trained because they are unobtrusive, yet always warm and friendly and aware of diners' needs. More tea? Another glass of wine or a Margarita? More chips? They do it all. A small group of friends and I, who worked together for many years at a major local university, selected Yxta for our annual Christmas lunch and gift exchange about three years ago. And, we wouldn't think of making a change. Everyone I've introduced to Yxta shares my opinion that this is not only a keeper, but a personal favorite. My latest visit occurred on Valentine's Day when the chef, Jose Acevedo, prepared a special menu. And special it was. I can hardly wait for my next visit to Yxta.

Didn't know Mexican food could taste that good!

By Katharine S |

We were a group of 25 people, about a third from the US, the others from all over the world. Most of us were not familiar with Mexican food and so had to rely on the advice of Yxta's Cathy Sudo to select a suitable menu. All dishes were very tasty and the service was excellent. The restaurant was perfect - we loved the decor and we had a great time. All of us can only recommend Yxta very highly.

Great Mexican food, fantastic happy hour, free parking

By rocky b |

Plain exterior in Warehouse District with elegant restaurant/bar setting Take cab or park free next door to the restaurant. Fantastic Happy Hour M-Sa 4-7 with great $6 appetizers The food is very tasty and appropriately spicey (not dummy-downed) e.g. guacamole, tacos de carnitas Very flavorful entrees e.g., camarones al ajillo Super vegetarian dishes e.g., nopales with corn Yummy capirotada (Mexican bread pudding) Service is good, but needs a little fine tuning

Delightful

Pricey for DTLA Mexican food but amazingly good. We had chili rellano and enchiladas but everything looked fantastic.

An Oasis

By zengirl_10 |

This place is fine to visit during the day, but be careful if you're walking from the main part of downtown to this restaurant, particularly at night as we did. It's not too many blocks from 6th and Spring Streets in the historic area to where this restaurant is located, but my husband and I learned the hard way that walking through Skid Row in the evening is best avoided, even if it seems like a short enough walk (we took a cab back). But that said, the food was amazing. We particularly liked the chips and salsas, the Oaxacan cheese empanadas, and the pineapple/jalapeno and blood orange margaritas, and enjoyed sitting outside on the patio on a warm evening. Would go back again.

Very good quality and pretty ambiance

By navins888 |

The spelling of the restaurant name confuses the spell checker but we certainly weren't confused about the quality that this higher-end Mexican restaurant offers to its patrons! The creative Mexican cookery combined with the lovely restaurant ambiance led to an enjoyable culinary experience. There is no dish on the menu that will taste anything like what you've come to enjoy (or not) in a usual Mexican restaurant. Even the guacamole has a twist by including serranos and spicy pepitas within the mash. The Mexican salad with cotija pesto bread crumbs and agave-lime vinaigrette speaks for itself! The chicken and steak dishes gave our party of six plenty of variety to choose from. However, the dearth of obvious vegetarian courses affected our party's opinion regarding the breadth of their food; in fact, the menu isn't particularly large (aside from chicken and fish) so that would account for the lack of vegetarian options too.

Great fare and service in dicy part of town.

By Frank M |

We had an early dinner here on a Wednesday prior to a theatre tech rehearsal. Despite the troubled neighborhood, this place is an urban oasis and has a safe parking lot. We told our kind wait person, Sierra, about our time crunch. Meals came out within 10 minutes of giving our order. The gourmet Mexican food is mucho delicious and the happy hour prices (on both food and drink) made our experience a delight.

Hidden Gem

I love this restaurant. From the outside it doesn't look like much but once you go inside it is a classy place. The servers are great and the food is delicious. There is patio seating is nice and they are great with accommodating large groups.

My Favorite Mexican Restaurant in Downtown LA

By Henry P |

I love this restaurant. I have been coming to this place for about 10 years. It does not look like a great place from the outside. But, once you enter this place, you know you are going to have a fine dining experience. The service is great. All of the dishes are fabulous. That being said, I especially love the "carnitas." They also make some great margaritas. If you are in downtown LA and are looking for a great dining experience, I highly recommend Yxta.

This place rocks

By dipskp |

I was in LA last weekend with a group of friends for a golf weekend. The guys wanted to eat Mexican food, but it was already 9:00 pm on. Thursday night. We were staying at a hotel in Commerce, which is a pretty industrial area of LA. Well, we had found this place, I called and they said that they'd definitely be open. I put the address in my gps, and I saw that it was what I had thought was a pretty sketchy area of downtown LA. As we were driving, my friends were giving me some crap, especially as the back of our van was loaded with golf clubs. Well, as soon as we got there, we could tell it was clean, well lit, hip, looked like they had a great clientele and the ambiance looked super fun, Our server was one of the best I've ever dealt with. Funny, attentive, informative, the guy was great. It was not cheap, but maybe the best restaurant I've been to in quite a while, in fact it was the best restaurant that we went to during our 5 days in So Cal. OUTSTANDING!!!! Everything from the fresh guacamole, mahi mahi, chile relleno, free range chicken, cream of squash soup, and especially my blood orange margarita. I have already told everyone I know in LA that they have to go and eat here. Would be great with a group, or on a date

Worth the Visit

By tmboc |

Great food in a not so great area. I had the shrimp tacos and squash blossoms and both were delicious! They have a great drink list as well. Nice atmosphere and they do have their own free parking lot. This is the best restaurant I've eaten at in the downtown area that's reasonably priced.

Somewhere New

By dqueen1 |

My girlfriend told me about this place and we went there for dinner last Saturday. It is a very nice place. They have happy hour from 4-7 on Saturday. It is most mexican/spanish. some of the dishes were a little spicy for me but if you like spicy you will like this place.

Good fancier mexi food

By Dominique S |

I grew up in east la and went to places like Yxta's sister restaurant, Arco Iris in Highland Park, but this restaurant is really good too. The margaritas are delicious, the chipotle salsa is very authentic (taste a lot like my mom's) and the dos gringas tacos are really good. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to family and friends!

Mexican food turned up a notch!

By lucysadie5 |

Celebrated a birthday, I had Chicken Enchiladas in Mole, and calabacitas, and an "new fashion cocktail" (like an old fashion, but with Mezcal). We all had different meals, Salmon enchiladas in spicy sauce, Shrimp Enchiladas (in yellow mole sauce)and carnitas, we all found our meals, exceptional! Dessert was Oaxacan chocolate ice cream (fabulous!) Can't wait to return, noise a bit high, but can still carry on a conversation. It's a bit hard to find, in a strip mall off 6th & Central, not far from the art district.

Yummy and very friendly and attentive staff

By Karliesjz |

This place is in a shady area but worth the trip. Excellent food, service and margaritas. I had the special spicy mango margarita which was fresh and refreshing. The guacamole was seasoned perfectly and I had the chicken huarache appetizer which was very different and delicious. I travel often and am always looking for good Mexican and this was excellent. I also had three different servers and each of them was friendly and attentive.

Best Mexican Dinner in LA

By Alan661 |

Top quality gourmet Mexican food beautifully presented. I had the shrimp enchiladas which had large succulent shrimp with a flavorful mild sauce. My wife had pork tacos with pineapple wrapped in homemade flower tortillas. The lime flavored rice and grilled vegetables were a great compliment to this wonderful dinner. Unique cocktails added to a wonderful dining experience.

A Hip Mexican restaurant sets the standard!

By GourmetSpector |

As soon as you walk into Yxta (pronounced EEK-sta), you see a modern and eclectic interior designed by architect Poonam Khanna. Yxta is what I would call a chic Mexican restaurant. They do make traditional Mexican dishes, but with classy presentation. For example, they don't serve refried pinto beans. Instead they use refried black beans sprinkled over the top with "queso blanco," which is similar to farmer cheese. I ordered the Pollo en Mole Poblano, since I find that very few Mexican restaurants make "mole poblano" well. However, Yxta's mole poblano was exquisite! It was slightly thinner, and less sweet than traditional mole poblano, but it was delicious. They even sprinkled some pine nuts over the mole to add to the presentation. As for dessert, I ordered the capirotada (Mexican bread pudding). Yxta was creative by making it a la mode and by adding a sprig of fresh spearmint leaf. The capirotada was an absolute delight for the palate! It was a fantastic way to end my meal.

Cocina Mexicana

By CookieHollywood |

Wow! I had no idea this place even existed, had it not be for a friend. This restaurant is near Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. In a not so nice area, But DO NOT LET THAT FOOL YOU! Tucked away behind a wall of ficus trees is a secluded patio with lots of tables and heaters, beyond that is the main entrance. Upon walking in you are greeted by a host, straight ahead is the bar and to your left is the OPEN Kitchen. We came in for a MEZCAL tasting. The tasting included 3 varieties of Mezcal tequilla, a margarita and a 3 course appetizer tasting all for $40. We had the Mole Chicken Enchilada, Carnitas Taco and a Black Bean Sope. I highly recommend this Mexican Restaurant, as it is genuinely Authentic. It has a FULL BAR, the perfect ambiance and delicious food.

Excellent Fresh Mexican Food

By SEEKSanFrancisco |

Excellent food. Also loved the cantaloupe-mango drink! We ate at the tables outside because it was very noisy inside.

Lunch

By Kenny L |

Great for lunch and drinks. Try their margaritas!! Service is bias since the owner knew our group. But from what I saw you can see all their servers working their magic as the crowd got louder and laughter spread due to good times and margaritas. Cheers

Doesn't Get Any Better

By Cory Graham |

Yxta is one of my favorite dinners in LA. Cool atmosphere, excellent service, delicious food and drinks. Highly recommended. Great for parties and dates, family friendly.

Great food, rude condescending hostess, mediocre service

By lilfoodiegirl |

This was our first time to Yxta. We were going to a concert at Disney Hall and wanted to eat downtown somewhere. The food was fantastic, our waiter got us out in a little over a half an hour, even though we did have to do a lot of flagging down to get more drinks. Our biggest complaint was the EXTREMELY rude hostess. (I didn't get her name, but she was the only woman hostess working on Saturday February 7, 2015.) I was surprised that they would hire someone who set such a bad tone for an otherwise very nice place. She was young and inexperienced, deigning to find us a table. Traffic held us up, we were 15 minutes late, but there were plenty of tables for us, we got out quickly and tipped well, I assure you, even though the wait staff was brusque. But for the first 20 minutes we were there, we had a hard time shaking off our "welcome." I've hostessed before, that attitude was completely unnecessary, unprofessional, condescending. Unless that's the tone you WANT to set? I can only assume you want to set an atmosphere that grates on your customers, maybe they want to be a Latin Nozawa? For the food, for the convenience downtown, we would consider coming again. But if we see that horrible girl, I might not come back a third time. I would have given this five stars but for her.

Outstanding value

By Human44 |

On Monday nights, their Happy Hour runs until 9 pm. Great Margaritas and tacos are available at bargain prices. We had an excellent meal that was easy on the budget. Would recommend this place highly!

Oasis of calm and good taste in an industrial sector of town.

By Michael B |

This isn't your run of the mill Mexican restaurant...the menu is primarily Oaxacan tweeked to urban chic levels...for example the turkey tamales with vegetable mole and chipotle cranberry sauce...yum! They make daily "aguas frescas" from scratch and their tortilla chips are freshly made in-house too. We've been a couple of times, always for lunch. The bar whips up some interesting concoctions for those that like alcoholic libations and there is safe parking on site. Service is attentive, knowledeable and pleasant. Definitely worth a trip downtown for unpretentious, high quality food.

Worth the Trip

By DGMun |

It has been a few years since I stopped in here for lunch. I ran into an old friend and wanted to catch up. I was headed south of LA and she was headed north. So we decided to eat in LA itself and picked here for dinner. We were not disappointed. When the waitress explained the special, a Mahi Mahi dish with grilled cauliflower we both switched what we were ordering to the special. I cannot do justice in explaining this dish. Suffice it to say that it has multiple layers of flavor that made me say “wow”! Without exaggeration this was the best cauliflower I have ever eaten. No lie. So, if you are in there and you hear “Mahi Mahi Special”, order it. The service was exceptional and they never hurried us off of the table even though we sat there longer than normal catching up on old times. The wine list is short but what they offered was perfect. The beer list contained exactly what we were looking for as well.

Very good food, atmosphere and service

By yakshaver |

Loved the food, nice Mexican fare, with a twist. Our group ordered everything from vegetarian dishes to fish, beef, etc and deserts. Everything was very good, including their take on the Marguerita (loved the black salt rim!).

Always Fun

By Tony G |

Have been here twice, both times with work friends....it's light and fun. The Happy Hour drinks and food are great. And for dinner, I recommend the steak...it was the best I've had in a long time.

Nice Mexican food

By Quantumlondon |

This Mexican restaurant is located near some very good restaurants listed by TripAdvisor. I found it because the other ones were fully booked. It was a good find! A small but well thought out menu of tacos etc. I particularly enjoyed a tasty pork stew with some freshly made tortillas. The staff is friendly. Seems like a nice neighbourhood restaurant.

Best Mexican in LA !!

By Stephanie78100 |

My boyfriend and I had dinner in Yxta Cocina Mexicana last Monday. What a nice experience !! OK, It is located in a rather dodgy area........BUT ! this place is great! It is a sort of upscale Mexican restaurant. We were welcomed by a very friendly lady, and our waiter was as helpful as one can be, and spent a long time explaining to us what exactly was in each dish ! We were served in less than 10 minutes. I had the pork and pineapple tacos with lemon flavored rice. What a delight! My boyfriend had a tasty chicken tacos. On Mondays Happy Hour goes until 9pm so we enjoyed a Margharita for 5£. The outside terrace is nicely decorated, the atmosphere was friendly and lively. We had a great evening in Yxta!

Mahi Mahi taco heaven!!

By lillian295 |

Came here for lunch with friends. We loved our chips and salsa and had to order more! I ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos. I highly recommend them. They are phenomenal!!! I really like the refreshing Aguas frescas . I will be back and try something new . Everything on the menu looked delicious!

A little off the beaten path in down town, but worth the trip.

By rfnpb79 |

I went here when I was in LA last year- had the fish tacos made with grilled mahi mahi- they were very good as were the house ritas. Last year the tacos al pastor were also very good.

Modern Mexican Food - Downtown Industrial District

By Eric G |

Part of the growing restaurant group run by Jesse Gomez and Jose Acevedo, Yxta is a large, bright, open and airy space, located just a short drive from the downtown business district (the most direct route is through skid row, so if that isn't your thing, you can ignore Waze and take the long way around). Valet parking is available in the restaurant lot. The food was very good and the place had a buzzing vibe. There were enough interesting dishes on the menu, that I plan to visit again and try other things.

First rate

By Check_0n |

My boyfriend is Mexican and was looking for a great Mexican restaurant, after several disappointments. I made an effort to find something to meet his standards and came-up with Yxta. It made him happy. We went there twice with a large group that we were hosting for an art fair. He lives in Australia and rarely gets to eat good food, so I was delighted. We also tried Mercado, however I found the service, menu and atmosphere in Yxta more to our liking. I am a drinks specialist and particularly liked your cocktails x

Instantly Loved This Restaurant

By CZI777 |

I instantly loved the restaurant when I walked in and received a very warm greeting. I was meeting a friend and was seated at a spacious table. One server came by with menus and offered drinks and guacamole. The melon/pineapple fresh fruit drink was excellent but I wish they wouldn't add any sugar as the fruit is tasty without it. The guac was delicious and beautifully presented but it was the chips that came with it that were out of this world delicious and obviously homemade. My friend and I ordered two platters of tacos and shared them. The fish tacos were good but could use a little more flavor. The pork tacos were absolutely delicious. I am still thinking about them. The service was excellent and our server answered questions about the small restaurant chain and the new one opening in Pasadena but under the name Mercado. Yxta Cocina is located in an up and coming area of downtown (still a number of homeless tents around though) and has its own parking lot. It is valet but the nice valet allowed me to park my own car. I will definitely return to this restaurant.

Fresh and delicious Mexican!!

By Iboo |

We ate dinner here and it was yummy!! We ordered the guacamole appetizer and it was great!! I had the Pollo al Ajillo which was chicken and fresh, diced, stir-fried veggies and it was outstanding! The bread pudding for dessert has it's own twist and was fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed!!!

Serious Mexican food

By RJandM |

Coming from new england we get screwed on Mexican food here. We visited yxta when we arrived to Los Angeles and it was a welcome surprise. Great food and service without too much salt! The mole is fantastic and the margaritas are just right. Highly recommended!

Excellent food, too bad about the neighborhood

By Karliesjz |

The food, service and drinks here were excellent. It’s in a terrible neighborhood which is unfortunate. I was taking an Uber so I was able to get it and out quickly but not sure I’d park my car here. Sad that the city has such a huge issue with Skid Row and I have to imagine it negatively impacts this excellent restaurant.

Great Spot! Do not miss!

By david h |

Great Mexican spot in the Arts District not too far from downtown. Guac was fresh and amazing. Molè was muy authentico! Our party had a great time, and especially enjoyed the blood orange margaritas. We'll be back.

Great until the end

By Flint5oh |

Would have gotten 5 stars but the desert portion was a joke! My office ordered from a designated menu which included desert. The food was good (i got the tacos) but the desert portions came on one plate for about 5 people. I was expecting each person to have their own and was disappointed when i was told the 4 plates were for all 15 of us.

Great food. Great interior styling.

By rayinreverse |

Swank interior. Cool art on the walls. Excellent guacamole. Service was great. Al pastor was fantastic, and highly recommended. 2 dollar parking at lunch.

Mexican food for everyone

By Beth K |

Whether you love Mexican food, or not, this restaurant is worth a visit! Their menu has a great array of choices, and they will accommodate everyone's tastes. If you need to make a change in your dish, they are happy to work with you. We went with a very large party as part of a wedding weekend, and we all loved it! The staff was terrific, the food was delicious and the bar choices made us all very happy!

Wonderful flavors and choices

By BrianT787 |

Definitely a delightful departure of cookie-cutter US Mexican food, while still having the same concepts. For example, I had the enchiladas mole - hardly a radical departure, but the flavors would rich and the chicken moist. One of the best I've had. My wife had the chicken with four chili sauce - again, surprising, flavorful and delicious. We went for the Capirotada for dessert, and it did not disappoint.

Celebrating my Sister in law Birthday

By Sergio V |

We when to Yxta on Saturday, the ambiance and Atmosphere was great! This place is a gem in its location. Easy to get to, parking a snap too and getting out was a breeze!! As soon as we walked into the restaurant, I liked it. Hostess was super pleasant; waiters and waitresses were also super friendly, our server was fantastic and very attentive. We order pretty much all their appetizers. Loved the chicken and the ceviche tostaditas they were unbelievable and the scallops were full of flavor and so delicious:the shrimp tacos were fantastic and also really good. Their guacamole is super yummy!! Cucumber Jalapeño Margaritas are super and strong, very refreshing - which made this cocktail exceptional drink. Our entrees, the Carnitas, Enchiladas de mole, Carne Asada, Camarones Ajillo and my favorite the Yxta Tabita were all fantastic and dessert, amazingly good! This will be my new go to restaurant for dinner, the staff, management team of Jesse, Ray Wilkins and Corporate Exceutive Chef / Partner Jose Acevedo are the reason this and all other restaurants under Cocinas Calavera are paving the way to exceptional Mexican Food. Five Stars out of Five!

College visit dinner

Of all the Restaurants to chose from this one was a “hit” with college and HS kids. Fabulous guacamole, margaritas, and tender carne asade. The owner Jesse was very hospitable and let me have the suisa sauce for enchiladas normally a lunchtime item. Normally I skip dessert but the churro ice cream and flan was my favorite dessert this year. Maybe next time we visit he will have added Texas style queso to his menu since he has roots in Tejas.
