Perfect at every point

By Kevin M |

We met up with our son while visiting SF at Zazie. The waiter was exceptional, just enough attention and very specific advice on our questions about the meal choices. The details are what set this place apart. I ordered lemonade and received a glass of ice about half full of freshly squeezed lemon juice and then a bottle of simple syrup to make the drink to my taste. It was awesome. I had the crab benedict and was so happy with it. The crab was fresh, plentiful and full of flavor and everything around it was done perfectly, with just enough seasoning as to not distract from the flavor of the crab. The other meals were just as well executed and the details well thought out. Definitely worth the wait which was minimal for the time we came.

Breakfast-Brunch Spot On

By Cathy G |

Located in a lovely neighborhood on Cole. Wish we had more time to explore the area, but had to get to airport. This little cafe was great for breakfast/brunch which is served every day. We were there during the week and it was busy. Suggest going around 9ish for no wait. The food was delish and very prompt service. Would definitely go back if I am in the area

Pretty patio, dogs love it

By elizabeth J |

Went here with son and his fiancee to celebrate a birthday. It's unique, tucked in a neighborhood in an older building. The patio is in back, walk through the restaurant to get to it. Vines surround you, and there is heating for a cold day. Service is fast and friendly without being over the top. Food is French-influenced, and carefully prepared and presented. The flavors were delicious. We had a braised lamb and eggplant dish that was tender and flavorful, a beef in red wine that was rich and luscious, and duck breast that was cooked rare to perfection with a fig sauce to die for. Don't miss the macaroni and cheese - it is wonderful. A nice aside: there is no tipping here, as the management pays for employee benefits as well as a living wage. Quite a feat in this expensive locale.

Love this place ❤️

By Jacqui C |

Had the pleasure of having breakfast in this beautiful place. I had the eggs florentine & my husband had the special omelette du jour. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. There was jam on the table. I ordered a slice of their beautiful wholewheat toast & that jam was to die for. Service was great, lovely happy atmosphere inside. Highly recommend this place 🇺🇸

Amazing breakfast!

By Maeve W |

We randomly came across Zazie’s and were so glad we were able to get a table because the food was delicious. We had the walnut French toast and the eggs Florentine and they were both drool worthy! It’s nice you can choose the number of servings (1-4) you like! They also state that they don’t expect tips, and pay their staff rightfully which is refreshing in the U.S. Most importantly, they have great coffee!

A true neighborhood Gen

By Amy P |

I love Zazie's, they really are just a wonderful restaurant. You can see why they have survived so long in this city, everything is fresh and tasty and just wonderful. The staff is ALWAYS nice and they try really hard to give you the best service they can. This is the first place in SF to eliminate tipping which has just made the staff even kinder

Top notch dinner

By _manzanokael |

We had an airbnb in the area for a while on our trip down to LA. We found this place totally at random (I read the reviews here saying there's usually a line but none on a Monday Morning). I have to say it was great! I wanted to write a review because the patio is not at all crowded at night, and it was incredible. Perfectly cozy! Couple the space with the food and it's just perfect :)

Great French Dinner

By Tora Mia 2000 |

My mom and I were in the area for a medical appointment at UCSF medical center. My mom is from France and she was so pleased that I found a French restaurant within walking distance. My Mom had the mussels and cream brule. I had coq au vin (chicken) on mashed potatoes. This was the BEST meal I have had in a long time and it reminded me of my Grandmothers cooking but better. We arrived at 5PM on a Sunday evening and it was not crowded but by 6PM it was almost full. They do take reservations. This is a Must try for dinner for anyone who enjoys French food, wine and bread.

Best French Toast I've ever enjoyed.

By Scuggins |

My wife had bacon and eggs and fried potatoes with garlic. She said they were to die for. French toast with carmelized bananas, truly decadent. Great coffee too. One of those mornings you don't want to end. Service was very attentive. If we ever get back to SF we will go there first.

Incredible food and service. 10/10

By Kyle P |

Zazie is my new favorite breakfast spot in SF! The eggs benedict is so delicious and the servers are some of the nicest I have ever had. Shoutout to Mario for being such a friendly host - I will be back!

Best brunch in the bay

By Robert |

This place has the best brunch in the whole bay area. The wait is insanely long, but the food might be good enough to justify it. Also come back for dinner, the food is terrific!

Good food, ok cleanliness, tiny restroom

By NZSITM |

My friends, husband and I ate dinner here a few times. We enjoyed the food and service. The restaurant was popular and crowded - we did not mind. They offered seating inside the restaurant and in the back patio with heated lamps. We did not like the hallway between the cooking area and the restroom. This small hallway also lead to the back patio. There was a sewage smell and the ground seemed wet at times. The restroom was tiny. For the same price range, food and service quality, we have eaten at restaurants with better facilities and comfort, such as The Richmond, Chapeau, Sociale, Spruce, Baker Street Bistro. Food 9/10 Service 9/10 Facilities/comfort 8/10 Location 8/10 Total: 8.5/10

Fantastic brunch spot

By Gate15 |

This was probably our favourite meal in San Francisco… great range of brunch options and fantastic friendly service- highly recommend

Best of SF

By Sue |

When visiting SF, this restaurant is a must! We went for dinner and sat on their patio. The patio is covered with heaters, pretty lights. The ambiance is lovely. The servers are amazing! Plus, no tip!!! We are sure to go back again soon.

Not overwhelmed

By DerekFGuadalajara |

We had dinner here with friends; the space in the restaurant is a little cramped and looks European inside. The waitress was a little pushy for our taste and seemed not to pay the attention you might expect at this somewhat overpriced restaurant. Our opinion is that it is over rated as the food was alright but certainly not outstanding and the prices were fairly high, but that is the area/location of Cole valley.

What a Great Dining Experience!

By dmk9416 |

We were greeted by friendly, professional, attentive staff who made our visit most enjoyable. The food was excellently presented and prepared. I had the salmon, and it was delicious! We saved room for dessert, and I'm delighted that we did! I had the cheesecake, and it was most certainly the best I have ever indulged in! It's a good idea to make reservations, if you are serious about eating at Zasie's, as it is quite a popular place for all the right reasons!

Average warm bland food.

By Curious672329 |

Overall very average. Omelet sausage was very low end. Food was warm when served likely because of being served on cold plates. I definitely don't recommend this place.

A French Cafe, excellent food, reasonable prices

By Jim K |

Small cafe with a covered patio out back (much nicer than the sidewalk seating) encellent food, service and reasonable prices. They offer $40 fixed price dinner of salad, entree and dessert. Felt and tasted like Paris Cafe. Well worth it.

Excellent French cuisine in a cute setting.

By Hoyle L |

We noticed long lines of people in front of the restaurant during the day- a demonstration of the popularity of the restaurant for brunch. As we seldom have brunch out, wife and I decided to try this Zazie for dinner, a very happy decision! We made reservations for an early dinner on a Saturday (Zazie does take reservations for dinner but not for brunch), and, fortunately, the restaurant was not crowded as we dislike noisy places. The restaurant has a front section with cute little tables and wooden chairs, an open kitchen, and beyond that, a covered, semi-open section with additional tables. We were served a freshly baked warm bread which was delightful. The menu was quite French and interesting, and they had a good choice of relatively inexpensive wines, aperitifs, and beers. We started with kier royale, which was somewhat on the sweet side. For appetizers, we had mussels marnieres, French onion soup, and a small salad, which were all authentic and wonderful. I especially liked the mussels with a wonderful creamy sauce which I spooned up to the last drop. For the main course, we both had the truite meuniere, which was cooked to perfection – the skin was crisp, and the fish melted in the mouth. We had a bottle of French sancerre ($60) with the meal, which was quite decent. For dessert, we had the “baked hot chocolate” – a rather creative, sweet dish, and worth a try. The service was very friendly and prompt. The bill came to about $200. They pride themselves that the price of food includes the tip and that their employees have full benefits! We fully support this practice! Overall, this is a wonderful, authentic French bistro, a neighborhood gem. We will definitely be back to try all the mouthwatering items on their menu.

Amazing food, fantastic service!

By JAF414 |

Zazie is truly a gem. The food was incredible and our waitress was one of the best that I ever had. We sat outback in the covered patio, the atmosphere was perfect. I started with the french onion soup, two of us had the beef Bourgignon, one had the pork chop, and my husband had the duck. Every single one of us left with a clean plate. On the menu they explain that there is no tipping, all of their staff is paid a fair wage and they provide a great benefit package to their employees as well. Not only was the food and service out of this world, but knowing how the owners treat their staff, makes Zazie a must go to restaurant!

Fun French Bistro!

By darlenelynn |

Tuck in the alley this a real gem! You thin you are in Paris. The food was excellent and the service was superb! Our waitress was fun and had a great sense of humor. She also was very helpful and knew the menu extensively making wonderful suggestions to accommodate a variety of diners preferences.

SF Brunch with a French Touch

By GLM |

SF Brunch with a French Touch is a good description. In the past we have enjoyed both brunch and dinner, and we’ve always been pleased. Although it’s been over a year since our last visit, they are still a great CA style dining option. One of the specials this day was Eggs en Fonte - an excellent choice. I tried their Croque Monsieur - better than my last one in France this past summer. This place is a winner! Try dining in the back patio - lovely.

Magic pancakes!!!

By jesswac2017 |

One the best breakfasts I’ve ever had! Staff were incredible nice as well. Get the magic pancakes 👍🏻

An excellent surprise

By Boris G |

We went to this restaurant twice in April 2018 with my family. The place is very pleasant (especially the back tables in the garden). The waiters are very pleasant and deliver a quality service with smiles and good mood. The dishes are very fine and the ingredients of quality. We enjoy our brunchs

Superb French/California Dining

By GLM |

San Francisco offers many excellent dining options and Zazie is definitely on that list. We were in the area and stopped in for breakfast. The offerings are considerable and the service was friendly and helpful. We opted for a scramble and the Salmon Benedict. Both were cooked to perfection and delicious. We enjoyed this experience so much that we made a reservation for dinner. That too was excellent. Cream of mushroom soup was on the menu that day as was a superb French fish stew. This is a popular spot and the waiting line can be long. Reservations are recommended for dinner. The back garden patio is a great seating area. Zazie‘s is definitely a San Francisco treat.

Bad mussels ruin experience!

By Debbie and Tim |

This restaurant is in a beautiful area of SF!!! Gorgeous old homes and buildings! Amazing!!! The service was very good and we loved that it is a tip free restaurant. Awesome that they provide a great work environment for their employees. The portions were huge! Especially the pork chops!!!! Also the cheese from the selection of 3 cheeses appetizers, 2 of the 3 were huge chunks of cheese. Most of our food was amazing and very delicious. But my sister and I had the PEI mussels that were very off and made me almost throw up. We couldn’t eat them. We told our waiter at the end of our meal, as he asked how the food was. He told the cook and the cook said they were fresh, bought that day and tasted fine. Too bad for us! Charged full price . Not that we were expecting them to remove the charge but since neither of us could eat them we would have thought there would have been more than a “too bad!” It left our experience less that delightful.

NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR MONEY

By TravelGuyJay |

The food at Zazie is average. Nothing over the top, but it is a really trendy local spot for those of us who live nearby. Are there much better spots in SF, ABSOLUTELY! You can expect REALLY long waits for tables, and over an hour wait on any sort of online order. They only accept one online order for any 45 minute period. Prices are high, bc a 25% tip to the server is included, even in your online order where you didn't have a server. You can't do a thing about that. No matter what level of customer service you receive. HERE'S THE KICKER- Mario, one of the owners, is a nightmare. He’s the guy who usually greets you at the entrance and adds your name to the list on his iPad. Many of the reviews here discuss how rude he is and it is ABSOLUTELY THE TRUTH. He acts like he can't be bothered with anyone, he hasn't learned the value in treating all customers with gratitude and graciousness. When that place gets busy, he starts to melt down and treats people like dirt. I have been a local patron for over two decades, and I'll never go back because of this guy. I'm done with his rudeness, and his lack of customer service skills. My family and I went above and beyond to try to support Zazie during the pandemic so they didn’t fold. They were so grateful and kind then, and I wondered if/when that would change. Mario has since answered that question. 🙄 He’s gone back to being curt and ungrateful in demeanor. The food quality, portions, ingredients, and customer service have all gone downhill. Not worth it.

Eehhhh

By lovebugg1111 |

We went here because family had recommend it while we were visiting in San Francisco! There was three of us and we had eggs for breakfast and it was $100. I know that the servers get a living wage... and a 401k but a hundred bucks for breakfast is ridiculous for a less than special meal! I would reason if it was spectacular, but it was just not even close to worth the price! I would however recommend the mamosa with sorbet, it was worth every penny!

Beautiful and tasty food

By VoyageurBC |

The food is luscious - full of flavour and beautiful seasoning. The hot, hot fresh rolls sold me from the start! One of our guests has a garlic allergy and they were able to provide a lovely meal. The wine was well paired and if the portions were smaller - desserts might have been possible. The staff are knowledgeable and very engaging. What a treasure!

Fresh and delicious

By KH11001 |

We were visiting San Fran to see family and make a stop at the DeYoung Museum for a special exhibit. My niece found Zazie's on her smartphone, researching brunch locales as we drove in from SFO. Her research bore fruit! We all loved our meals. Egg scramble was terrific but the real hit was the warm veggie plate. Friendly vibe, and high respect for Covid protocols.

Great food and no tipping!

By Thorvaldz |

Great food, great service and best of all it's tip-free! I wish more restaurants would abandon the inherently stupid tipping culture. Way to go Zazie!

Love the back patio! They have heaters!

By Kiersten T |

I have gone to Zazie twice now over the last two years on different trips to San Francisco. I love it! Everybody that I have taken there has also been happy. Their coffee cakes are delish, their apple chicken sausage is 👌🏼. They have a huge selection of eggs Benedict in all kinds of varieties if that is your thing. I love their giant cup (or one might say bowl) of hot chocolate. It is the perfect brunch sitting on their back patio with vines growing all around under patio heaters whilst eating delicious food and sipping on a giant hot chocolate. Get there early (before 8:30am) if you don’t want to wait longer than 30 mins. They don’t do reservations. You just add your name to the list on the clipboard hanging out front by the door. I think it is worth the wait for the back patio.

Nice casual french dinner !

By Geoffrey D |

The service was terrific, I had the muscles...delicious ! The bread, the mac & cheese all great ! A casual neighborhood place with a comfortable welcoming vibe

Wonderful restaurant, incredible service and good, never lets you down!

By Kathy W |

Zazie's is a fantastic restaurant, has been so for years, and is always a treat. I've eaten there dozens and dozens of times: for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Alone and with friends and family. I've introduced this restaurant to many people from out of town. The service is reliably great and the serving staff are fun and quirky. The food is absolutely delicious: the eggs, steak, fries, trout, burger...everything. Zazie's has a very loyal following, so plan to go here and possibly to wait -- especially if you're there for brunch. Well worth any wait you might have. A San Francisco icon! One last thing: Zazie's has progressive employment policies, from what I hear from people who work there. An additional plus, especially in this time.

My Favorite brunch place in San Francisco

High quality ingredients. Fantastic service. A cozy atmosphere. Zazie is my favorite brunch places in San Francisco. Be sure to order "French Toast Tahiti."

Great Breakfast / brunch near Haight-Ashbury

By David F |

What an amazing breakfast! Here in SF On a family vacation, and after a few too many meals in the touristy fisherman's wharf area, we were looking for something local and authentic. And did we find it. Fantastic Parisian, coffeehouse feel with great food to match. It was a Monday morning, so no wait. Our server was super accommodating and informative. We shared the seasonal poundcake to start and it was delicious. They are known for their eggs Benedict specials but I ordered the fountainbleu scrambled eggs (contains mushrooms, spinach and cheese) with a side salad. My wife ordered scrambled egg whites with gluten free English muffin and bacon. Both were delicious. The restaurant may be a few dollars more per entree than others but it's totally worth it for 3 reasons: 1) the food is delicious, 2) Price includes tip (can leave extra cash if you prefer) and 3) they include healthcare/dental benefits, 401(k), and paid parental leave/time off for their entire staff. This made everyone take extra pride in their work and it comes out in the food and experience. Will definitely come back next time in SF.

Very good but pricey diner

By CamilleR |

This small restaurant has a very nice ambiance with extremely friendly staff and a casual romantic feel. I had the butternut squash pasta which was excellent and my boyfriend had the salmon, which was also good but a very small dish for the price. Overall, we liked the place but found it slightly too pricey for the value.

Best family style food for group brunch.

By C L |

We were here for a wedding brunch in the back and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. The food was excellent and we all enjoyed the brunch tremendously.

Breakfast was delicious

By Sarah G |

What a wonderful little place! We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast. I order soft scrambled eggs, chicken apple sausage, and a pancake. What I got what exactly what I’d hoped to get- perfection on a plate. The syrup was warm, the eggs cooked perfectly, the sausage was wonderful, and the pancake was flavorful and fluffy and moist. I ordered a Bloody Mary which was also good and spicy and filled with veggies. The way staff was generous and kind and helpful. The food was served quickly. Coffee refills kept coming. Excellent all around!

Great breakfast; lots of variety

By Veturanto |

We really enjoyed our breakfast at Zazie. Both food and service were excellent. There were a number of creative dishes available.

A Most Satisfying Brunch

By Prem Rao |

You would be well advised to go there early to chalk up your name in the list for reservations. they have online reservations only for large groups as far as I can make out. The food was excellent. We enjoyed the ambience of the heated patio garden. The portions were generous and the food very tasty. We loved the La Mer Eggs Benedict, the French Toast Tahiti, the Miracle Pancakes and the The Mimosa Cocktail to go along with our food. The service was pretty efficient too. All in all, a most satisfying brunch! We will definitely visit Zazie again.

Tres Bien!

By ELDunlop |

We have eaten here several times over the past ten years. Always good to re-visit a place to see if they are still delivering what they did in the past. They have not disappointed! Surprised my husband with a brunch here after running some errands in the city. We were both seated immediately-lucky for us, on the outdoor patio in the rear. Since our last. Is it they have added two overhead awnings, which added to more comfort. It used to get pretty hot back there which could be uncomfortable. Perfect now! Fresh air, but not getting baked in the sun! We ordered a mocha and hot chocolate to start and then our entrees. My husband loves smoked salmon so he had that open faced on great toast with a huge salad that came with it. I ordered the “Un, Deux, Trois”. It’s an egg, bacon and pancake dish. You can substitute their miracle pancake for the traditional for a few extra bucks. The day we were there it was their sour cream poppyseed pancake. Light and excellent. Our favorite is the ricotta pancake, but they don’t always have it on the menu, sadly. Everything was done perfectly and we cleaned our plates! Parking can be a challenge, but we always seem to luck out. So, I’d say they are continuing to provide excellent food and service all these years. We will return again. SF health tax is added in, but we always add at least a 15% on top of that. Hope you enjoy this little gem in Cole Valley as we do!

Sunday Brunch.

By Phil W |

Be prepared for a long line (on weekends) - but they have a way walk-in rest of week Make sure put your name down and you cam state your preference on seating. (Street , onside or back-yard - my favorite) I also like you can see you will be in the Irish bar next door while you are waiting (so get some good bloody Mary’s ) The service is great - the prices are more thank Avg - But NO TIPPING expected I had poached eggs and apple Sausage and some of their signature tea. Eggs were cooked very well , sausage was boring and tea was divine. Service was excellent and very friendly (one complaint only hot sauce was tobacco So if you wait outside in rain not worth it. But why not get slightly toasted on the bar next door while you wait. ;-)

Excellent Bistro style dining

By TheBel |

One of my favorite spots for bistro food and feeling. Their nights when there is no corkage are a real deal. Parking is hard but you can do it. All of the dishes are well made but on the small side. They also add a tax for their workers which I am glad to pay.

Second visit not as good

By travelagentreplies |

Went for early Mother's Day brunch on a Saturday. Incredibly crowded. Said the wait would be 20-30 minutes and maybe 50 minutes later we were seated. Service is very good and no tipping is the way they operate, hence the higher prices. Not outlandish though. Coffee cake was the best of our food. Huge piece that three of us shared. Scrambles were just ok and come with salad or potatoes and toast. Tahitian French toast was just too sweet. Many coffee drinks and different kinds of mimosas. Back covered patio and cramped indoor seating with a few tables on the street. Don't know if the wait is worth it. Would go back on weekday though.

C'est bon

By Cape Cod Dreaming |

We were staying around the corner with our son while we were here for Christmas. It was a short walk over and it was a nice night for the walk. I am sure the locals thought it was cold but for us East Coasters it was a balmy evening. We were able to make a reservation with no problem for the same evening we called. Although the restaurant itself is small they have a rather large seating area in back in their patio. With lots of gas fired heaters it was nice and cozy. We shared an order of mussels which were a special treat as I have been on mussel boats on the Cape. The order was very large with plenty to share with the rest of the party. I ordered a burger (although the duck looked very appealing) as did my wife. She and our son's fiancee also had some Pinot Noir. Generous pours and lots of flavor. No rush from the staff to order quickly and they were helpful with the wine selection. Burgers in San Francisco restaurants are quite high end and all are unique to the individual restaurant you are at. These are not kiddy meals by any means. We passed on dessert as we had lots of goodies back at the flat. Good food, easy to find, reasonable pricing, nice staff. All adds up to a place I would like to come back to next time we are in San Francisco.

Darling Intimate French Bistro with Yummy Food and Service!

By carrie m |

Got this recommendation from someone who lives in the neighborhood. So glad we came. We started with a glass of champagne. For an appetizer, I had the french onion soup-so good while my friend had pate which she loved. For our main entrees-I had the lemon ricotta ravioli which was delicious. My friend loved her duck. The deserts were delicious. I had the warm fruit crumble with creme fraiche-best desert ever. Prices were good. The service was top notch-waiters very knowledgeable so I asked for recommendations for entree and desert and they were spot on. Prices were good-think our entire meal was about $160 for two. I love that you don't have to tip because they pay good wages to their staff. Can't wait to come back.

First rate, highly recommended

By Q9233XM |

Highly rated French restaurant, with an exceptionally high quality menu. Prices are reasonable for the excellent quality and service tips are built into the prices you see on the menu.

Nice cozy Bistro with great staff

By EndlessVoyage |

I had only been to Zazie for brunch, but we were meeting friends staying in Cole Valley and it seemed the right spot. The restaurant has a lovely outdoor area but we were inside on a chilly evening. The aperitifs offered are nice if limited and the menu offers something for everyone. Nothing stood out as special but the Bouride ( a very thick gluggy stew) & Duck were enjoyed by our guests. The cheese plate was very mundane - cheeses available at Costco. The desserts likewise were lackluster. Zazzies is very reasonable especially with no tipping and the menu is solid if you have out of town picky eater relatives, but we were frankly a little disappointed. I may do brunch again but probably not dinner. Parking is very tough BTW.

Quality Offerings Done Well

By GLM |

Zazie’s is a favorite of ours and they continue to excel. They provide a clean and protective environment for a great meal - especially important given the virus threat. Try the Salmon Benedict or the Genevieve Scramble, but there are no losers on this menu.

A Quant Neighborhood Restaurant!

By Terese C |

This is one of our daughters’ favorite restaurants. They have wine and you can bring in your own bottle for a corkage fee. The place is narrow with few tables; they have a back patio. I ordered their wild salmon with pesto sauce, over cauliflower purée, snap peas and toy box tomatoes. It was superb. The country pork chop was very flavorful and a great portion. Their kitchen is small so they do not take substitutions on any meal, which is understandable. Also, they say no tipping as they pay their employees well and includes insurance, paid maternal and paternal leave. This is a great place!

Fabulous brunch!!!!

By Samuel M |

Great place, great ambiance, Benedict's are amazing, they accept no tips, and the service still fantastic, servers very friendly, coffee great and gluten free options!!

All about the meal

By OctavianTrium |

I think a great restaurant starts with team members that want to do good food. I believe this is a restaurant with this element locked in. When I arrived, I was greeted with a smile. The host seemed pleased that I would stop in and have dinner with them and I was indeed. The wine a Morgon was excellent, it went well with the lentil soup. The main course, I ordered the duck. It was excellent. My partner ordered the boeuf B., also excellent. After dinner, we had the pots of cream and a glass of Muscat. I will be coming back.

Easy to love

By Cherie Q |

When the complimentary bread is warm and tender and served with rich butter, you know you’re in for a lovely meal. Then came the “small salad”, a hillock of crisp greens lathered in balsamic, a meal unto itself for $7. The mussels ($17) did not disappoint the birthday boy, who asked for more bread to sop up the creamy sauce. He enjoyed his starter so much he hardly touched his New York steak ($36) with its 3 huge spears of asparagus, mushrooms and mashed potatoes. My trout ($31) was plump and tender, stood up to the assertive seasoning that marks the food at this bistro as popular for its typical French fare as it is for leading the no-tip-expected policy. Makes sense when service is efficient, friendly but not obtrusive, and the food is deliciously straightforward. Our tab came to $141 with 2 glasses of vin at $14 per. Prize-fixe dinner is available at $43; starter and dessert is noted as half the size of the regular order. I had the price-fixe but thought my salad was hefty. Zazie is a perfect spot to reminisce Paris, but parking can spoil the appetite or make you miss your reservation. Go off hours.

Like the ethics and the food

By ButchJr |

Zazie is an extremely popular restaurant, and the food is one of the first reasons. The menu is varied with rotating, very creative specials. The ethical stance of the ownership means that the staff is paid a living wage with health insurance and profit sharing. Tipping is not necessary because they are well paid ... but I haven't seen the staff walk away when a few bucks are left on the table in gratitude for excellent service!

Decline in what use to be a great thing.

By GlobeTrottingfromTO |

The last 3 times that we have gone, we haven been disappointed and we keep saying we’re never going to go back. Something has changed...cooking staff...customer service focus? The food is not as great as it use to be when we first started going there 2.5 years ago. The portions are also sad. If I order polenta cakes as my main course why only give me 2 small pieces (3x4” and a quarter inch thick? when polenta is so cheap and so the dish costs so little to make? I went home hungry and my friend complained that she could have cooked better fish and couscous at home. Sorry. We love the atmosphere though and you have a great wine list so please up your cooking game to what it use to be. Oh and work on those portion sizes!

I don't get Zazie

By Redshirts889 |

I don't get why so many great reviews, the place is nice, the staff is nice... but I'm sorry to say the food was only average; my burger was plain, the potatoes are burned (not in a good way). The egg dishes are good but nothing special. Maybe their ingredients are top notch, but the end products are not. Zazie has many rules, such as no substitutions in any orders, no special requests, my burger was cooked one way, their way of medium😢. The food at Zazie is not cheap but they do pay their staffs a living wage and offers full benefits, so that's nice.

Delicious brunch!

By joaniemaria |

We waited about 45 minutes for our Sunday brunch and it was worth it! Large orange juice and delicious breakfast food. So many yummy choices.Friendly staff. Eat here. It is definitely worth the wait!

Creative menu, delicious food, attentive staff

By Napahiker |

If you get the opportunity, chat up Adam at the restaurant. Even if you're from out of town, he will make you feel like a local. We went to the restaurant on "no corkage Tuesday" and had a great meal, at a great price.

Low Key and Casual with Decent Food

By NeroNewDelhi |

Our first time - Zazie has a good feel and all the waitstaff are pleasant and welcoming. Most of the food was good.......not.......really good or great, but good. Standouts were the potato-leek soup and the trout. My cassoulet was disappointing and from my experience having the dish in France, this wasn't true cassoulet. The ingredients were more or less separate instead of being combined in a rich bean stew. Mussels were good-tasty and fresh. The French Onion Soup hit mostly the right notes. The burger was rated 8/10. Timing from the kitchen was off - my main course, the cassoulet, came 5 minutes after the rest of the party had been served - unsatisfactory. Service was good and the noise level modest. My most accurate rating for Zazie would be 3.5 stars.

Best Eggs Benedict Ever

By AnacVentilari |

I am a little Eggs Benedict addicted and every time that I travel to USA I was planning in advance where I should have my dream brunch. I was able to choose Zazie from Zagat and I had a 2:30 hours train trip to reach Zazie, since I was staying at San Jose. The line for a table was huge, and when the host told me that the waiting was about 2 hours, I almost fainted! He took pity on me and offered a mimosa while I was waiting. So king and gentle! My table was inside at the internal garden, and the place is gorgeous! It was 1:00 pm and I was starving, so I had a 2 Eggs Benedict (you can choose how many eggs you want), with the house prosciutto. The sauce was something from another planet! As a "desert", I ordered a 2 slices of French Toast with orange sauce. Another incredible choice. So, don't give up if the line is too long. The wait will deserved!

Famous for their excellent breakfast, but give dinner a shot.

Charming atmosphere, friendly staff and great food out of tiny kitchen. I live in the hood and this is our family favorite. Delicious French classics.

Benedictus!

By Adotutu |

Had a great brunch with the family. No wonder the big lines! Loved the menu, had a hard time deciding what to have, so we ordered many items. Best: Benedict with Crab Tahiti Pancakes Sign me up for our next trip to SF!

Popular and good

By WeatherWizard |

Short wait for a table at lunchtime as this small spot is quite popular. Good selection of brunch-type food and all three in our party were pleased with the results. Would like a chance to come here again and sample something else as there are many tempting items on the menu. Prices may seem a bit high but there is no tipping here. Restrooms are barely adequate.

Food is as good as the photos on their website

By Marla B |

Haven't been here in 20 years, but it's still as good if not better than it was 20 years ago. A friend treated me to brunch on a Sat. When I got there @ 9:30 (they open @ 9) the place was packed. Thankfully we did not have to wait long. Service and attentiveness 5* Presentation 5* Food 5* Food was Hot on delivery 10* (my biggest pet peeve is when food arrives luke warm) Charming French inspired interior. I had the Genevieve Scramble $20 w/ black forest ham, white cheddar, haas avocados. I ordered it scrambled lightly and it was cooked to perfection. Too often restaurants don't really know what "cooked light is". Friend had - St. Trop Benedict $18 (1 egg) w/ wild smoked salmon, capers, red onions. He Loved it We were little piggies and ordered 1 Gluten Free pancake and a side of bacon. Loved the texture and heartiness of the pancake. A tad disappointed the bacon only consisted of 3 tiny strips. Just wish they served Fresh Squeezed Juices for the price of Odwalla Juice, which we didn't buy. Price way beyond our budget ! All in all a great experience. Get there when it opens, if you can. The place is hopping all the time.

Gastronomique

By redsars88 |

Friends booked this for us and we were expecting Italian from the name, but its a heavy French influenced menu which was a nice surprise. Its a smallish and cosy place with great ambiance and excellent service. We had the mixed appetizer between 4 of us. This was some chacuterie, salmon tartar, greens and bread, very good. My wife and I followed this with the Bourride Zazie which was magnifique! Its fresh seafood in a broth, which was bursting with flavour. We brought some wine with us for which we were charged a $20 corkage. We did buy another bottle and their wine list is good. A very enjoyable evening and a great meal. On a final note, tipping is not required at this restaurant as they claim to pay their staff a fair wage with benefits, and this is covered in the price of the meal. Bravo!

wow, fabulous dinner, everything fresh, tasty and totally delicious

By jeanlong88 |

Great menu with wide variety to please all tastes; server attentive; food is first class and we will return. Not cheap, but for SF an affordable meal for 2.

Staff Attitude

By Arnold E |

My first and last time dining at this restaurant. Our server was great but one staff that was working at the backyard was rude and nasty. She was annoyed when I was standing by the door of the restroom which I must say they have a very small place. She kicked me out by saying "step outside!" What an attitude treating their customers. We like exploring French restaurants in San Francisco but this will be out of our list and will not recommend. Disappointing!

Un bijou

By Mia P |

Zazie is so cozy and warm, and the service is welcoming and attentive. It's one of the most comfortable restaurants in SF, imo. The cassoulet is absolutely exquisite - hearty and delicious. Good wine list, too. My ex/now best friend is French (Paris/Auvergne) and he introduced me to this place, since it's a block away from his home. He's allergic to reserving ahead of time (c'est-à-dire, spontaneous) but they always do their best to accommodate us, and always in a warmly gracious manner.

Fantastic French Bistro

By Lucia C |

We were lucky to get a table at this very popular brunch spot. WE loved the eggs bennedict with perfect hollandaise. The mimosas and Bloody Marys were delicious as were the breads and coffee. The ambiance is like a trip to France.

Amazing business, incredible food!

By jdosu |

Want a great meal at a business with a social conscience? Come to Zazie. They pay their staff a living wage, provide them with benefits, etc. The prices may look a bit high, but again, think about what the business does for its employees, and remember, that tips are built-in to the prices. And the food...to die for! We had an amazing brunch at Zazie. One of the items is a rotating pancake special. If you’re lucky enough to be there when they offer the bread pudding pancakes TRY THEM!! Amazing.

Amazing

By Julie F |

We had yummy hot chocolate, the Scrambled Egg Cannes and Pancakes (the pumpkin special and the gingerbread with lemon)! Large portions, but you can order one pancake, etc. One couple ordered five plates of food, so they could try multiple things. The French toast looked fabulous. Sigh, next time. We would eat here again in a heartbeat! The service was efficient, good and friendly. The atmosphere was quaint and clean. The food was divine! It was a comfortable walk to the Haight-Ashbury district and Golden Gate Park. A neighborhood gem, in a safe area. (Insert Drool Emoji.)

Nice brunch

By Brooklynite_Abroad |

This cute French restaurant, in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, is a perfect brunch spot. The wait for a table is super long, but the locals do endure it. Outdoor patio seating is sought after here and is lovely. The menu has French bistro staples and all the American brunch staples as well. There is a weekly pancake special here that people savor. Service here is prompt and friendly. The restaurant prides itself on paying a living wage and benefits to its employees, thus prices here are about 20% higher than a in a comparable restaurant. The upside is that the price hike is compensated by the restaurant asking guests not to tip the staff.

Disappointing

By travelrab |

Previously, flavorful coq au vin was served over exquisite fettucini. Tonight it was lukewarm, so-so, served over underdone, pasty shells. 15 minutes later, the server came to check in, and it was just to late for me to re-order while the rest of the table was eating. Restroom area looked grungy with water on the floor. Ick. What has happened? I hope this was an off night but feel unexcited about going back to find out. Previously, I would have given this restaurant 4 stars--good, not amazing.

Small bistro in SF Cole valley neighborhood.

By Jennifer L |

The restaurant is delightful..friendly staff, dogs welcomed one night of the week with a table in the (heated) garden, and great food. Be sure and make a reservation ahead of time though.

Excellent French Cuisine

By Jason A |

It's no wonder so many sources call Zazie one of San Francisco's top 10: cozy ambience in the heart of Cole Valley; extremely friendly service; flavorful trout with a nice texture consistency; and an exceptional pot de crème. The wine selection is good enough. Highly recommended.

Ambience and warmth

By GetTheFacts |

Very continental feel without French snobbery. Excellent menu, and they even have a couple of deals that help the pocketbook.

Great Find

By JHCM |

This restaurant has been there for quite awhile, but we had not gone there until quite recently. The food was great, the service was excellent- helpful & friendly. The ambience was informal/pleasant & not too noisy. Cost was quite reasonable. Interestingly, the menu clearly lays out their "no tip" approach, with explanation of extensive worker benefits! We will be going back on future trips to San Francisco.

First Time visit

By Dream_teamML |

We had a great visit at Zazie's for Brunch, we decided to come here because we were told there were a lot of gluten free options which helped accommodate one of our other travelers, we all tried varies entrees that were very delicious! Only reason for 4 stars was because the seating arrangements were really cramped

It is all about the egg!!!

By George M |

If one w ants one of the great brunch restaurants with more creative selections than one can imagine - RUN to Zazie in Cole Valley. Wonderful staff and service and the selections include about 10 omelet possibilities, 5-6 egg Benedict, french toast, daily coffee cake pancake possibilities, etc. I had the omelet special which was asparagus, feta, bacon - perfect! Salad or house potatoes (Go for them!!!) It does get very crowded and the wait especially post 10:30 can be long especially obviously on a weekend. I was there at 9:45 on a Tuesday and got seated immediately. By 10:15 the place was packed. OH....they "may" do egg white only, but no where was it listed in the menu. Gluten free is listed!

ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC FOR DINNER IN EVERY WAY, AND INEXPENSIVE, TO BOOT!

By Michael |

First of all an introductory comment and then a glowing review: My wife and I eat dinner our 3-4 times a week, in the SF Bay Area where we live and around the country and Europe when we travel. We are very "into" dining -- at all types of restaurants. Secondly, my wife made a reservation at Zazie and the day we were going there I read many reviews both in Yelp and TripAdvisor and almost canceled our dinner plans because so many of them were (for dinner) disappointing to plain "bad." But I decided not to cancel -- in favor of marital harmony. And I AM GLAD I DIDN'T CANCEL because we had an outstanding experience at Zazie, in every way! So here goes: We arrived 15 minutes early and although they had a table for us, we decided we'd rather eat in the back patio (with heat-lamps). The hostess was extremely gracious and said she could have a table for us shortly and suggested that if we wanted a drink we might be better off going to the bar next door -- which we did, and enjoyed and actually got my favorite (and somewhat rare) Bourbon. When we returned to Zazie the hostess had a lovely table for us. The service at the table, and through the dinner, was gracious, attentive and extremely helpful. At my request, the waiter suggested a wine which we ordered with dinner and his recommendation was "spot-on" and not expensive -- a double-winner! But it's always about the food, and Zazie's food was spectacular. I asked the waiter for his evaluation of the pork chop and he gave it rave reviews, and when I ate it he was once again "spot-on." It was one of the best pork chops I've ever eaten (I like meat generally, and really like a pork shop if done "right" -- and this one was perfect). He also commended the mussels and I had them as an appetizer and they were also perfect. Both my dishes, and the pain perdu dessert, were wonderful, very French and absolutely perfectly prepared, cooked and presented. My wife felt the same about her Onion Soup and Chicken dinner and dessert. And, finally, the total bill for the two of us was under $170. Fyi, we rarely have a dinner -- let alone so perfect a dinner! -- for under $350 per couple (wine, tax and tip all included) and often eat dinners that cost twice that amount. So "trust me" when I say that this restaurant experience was not only perfect in terms of ambiance, service and food but also a "bargain" (and would have been at twice the price!). Forget all the negative comments about dinner (I noticed that most of the comments about the restaurant were about their brunch, and seemed to be very positive). EAT THERE! You won't regret it. I'm so glad I did NOT cancel the reservation.

Very good

By ChilternRugby |

Crowded, bury place, get a table in the rear garden area if you can. They unlike many American places do not levy service charge nor do they like you to try and change the menu! I asked for potato rather than pasta and it caused the waitress to get stressed. They did do it but charged an extra $4. Food was however very very good, my rabbit was probably the best I have had anywhere Yes, I would return

Convivial

By Cavista |

Came here with 5 friends for dinner on the patio. Prix fixe menu was $49/person for appetizer, entree and desert. I had the goat cheese salad, the salmon and then the mille feuille. The atmosphere is relaxed and the waitstaff is friendly and attentive. The food was pretty good, although if you are French I don't think you will think it's authentic. Nonetheless, it's good food at a reasonable price, with the option of bringing your own wine. 4/5 stars.

Great Brunch Worth The Wait

By Jane S |

Great place for brunch. There can be a wait, but it’s definitely worth it. The best Eggs Benedict and delicious French Toast. Will return on our next visit to San Francisco.

Another Great Breakfast

By TomKucera |

We had to make a stop for breakfast once again. Food and service was perfect as usual. Please make it a point to try this place. There may be a line but it will be worth the wait.

Very disappointing

By Stephen F |

We were looking forward to visiting this French restaurant in the charming Cole Valley neighborhood. The ambience is good and the service was attentive. Unfortunately the positives end there. My duck cassoulet was so bad I ate about a third of it. Although the duck was reasonably tender, the rest of the dish was uninspiring in the extreme; too dry and lacking flavor. My wife’s burger was medium, not medium rare as ordered, and not particularly tasty. And our friend’s beef bourginon was tasty but too small! Add to the fact that the advertised seven ounce wine pours were only five ounces (we measured the pours!) and it was all round very disappointing...

Nothing special

By tracylynh |

I have to say our expectations were high after a friend recommended this place. Sorry to say it did not live up to the hype. I had the Florentine eggs Benedict, bacon and home fries. The potatoes were so garlicky that I barely tastes anything else. My husband had the UN deux trois with.a buttermilk pancake that ALSO tasted of garlic. And he never tasted my home fries. We barely finished out meal and will not go back. The Mexican restaurant just down from Zazies had a much more flavorful brunch on our first day in town. Thankfully we arrived just before the crowds and didn't have to wait.

Delightful

By Mama2AnE |

Great food, exceptional service, reasonable pricing. We ate on the heated patio. Loved the entire experience!

Best breakfast of our trip

By Ashley M |

My boyfriend and I came here for brunch on a Monday. There was a small wait, I am sure it's packed on the weekend. It's a tiny little restaurant and we had to shimmy through the gally pass to the back garden patio. It was beautiful and relaxing back there. We ordered some French toast; one regular and one Tahiti. They were to die for. It might have been the best French toast I've ever had! Amazing. Tip was included in the price, so don't get sticker shock. It was worth every penny.

Cozy Neighborhood Discovery

By paladinsf |

Most of the reviews for Zazie seem to be focused on Breakfast and/or brunch. Thus, I was curious to see what dinner there would be like. It was our first visit and it was superb! First, the ambiance is quaint, cozy and perfect "neighborhood San Francisco." Tables a bit close together, but place is small. Noise, however, did not seem to be an issue. We dined on the back patio, which was even nicer. A little spacier and still cozy. I had the $39 prix fixe, which included half sized appeitzers (mussels in a delicious cream sauce), half-sized dessert (Creme Brulee, which was , well, creme brulee) and full-sized entree (pasta with broccolini and crisp prosciutto - delicious and highly recommended). My wife had the pork chop (excellent flavor, bone -in, but a bit scrappy) and the soup of the night (ginger carrot - delicious). A couple of additional notes: this restaurant has a highly promoted no-tipping policy. (Hard to adjust to) and, on Tuesdays (when we went) waived corkage fees and/or reduced prices on one white and one red on the wine list (either by the glass or bottle). In summary: a great meal, great ambiance, great waitstaff, great value. We will return.

Great food, good atmosphere

By eternalsunshine07 |

The wait was long but expected for Friday brunch. We had the Mediterranean plate, burger and griddle flight. All excellent. They do not expect tips and the service although not bad, is definitely not top notch. All in all the food was spot on.

Never disappointed at Zazie's.

By Ambrosia S |

Every time we visit San Fran, it is a must to do brunch at Zazie's. Be prepared for a long wait (45min+), so plan for it and then you won't be aggravated. Their brunch is delicious, my personal favorite is the french toast. The gingerbread cakes and polenta cakes are also superb. The best reason to support Zazie's is their commitment to providing employees with a living wage and benefits, which is not a restaurant industry custom. So they are even cooler for that. Girls, here's a tip, you can use the bathroom in the bar next door if the line is taking too long.

Little Paris in SF

By meriah |

This restaurant is a satellite of Paris bistros. In a tiny kitchen they create delicious treats. We ate duck and salmon, both wonderful, and marshmallow chocolate desert was simply smashing. We really appreciated their fixed prices, no tips, we take care of our employees -approach.

Great variety of brunch food to chose from.

By C L |

I had Eggs Benedict Florentine which was quite yummy. All of us enjoyed our meals. Granted we were there on a Friday, but we didn’t have to wait for a table (outside was full).

Champion of Breakfasts

By Naea Ching |

It's crazy how I almost forgot that I bookmarked this #GoldenEasterEgg. Zazie is a cozy spot that boasts Provençal inspired cuisine. I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for breakfast spots, and Zazie is not to be missed!

Diasspoinrted

By Michael F |

I recently went to this restaurant with some family and friends, some of whom had been there before and liked it. I was disappointed. I had a part of both the meat and cheese platters and the coq au vin. There were three items on the meat platter -- a very nice, pleasant port pate; a very bland and nearly tasteless salmon pate with a somewhat mealy feel in texture; and a very nice prosciutto. It was served with a nice selection of olives and cornichons, a good mustard, and nice white bread type toast points. There were three items on the cheese platter, all of which were very nice cheeses and a nice selection of one triple cream, one harder cheese, and one goat cheese. And served with a very nice set of more whole grain toast points. The big disappointment was the main dish. The coq au vin was very bland and did not come with a lot of sauce. I don't know if it was prepared with not enough sauce generally which contributed to the blandness of the chicken. And it was served on top of a fairly pedestrian pasta which was further detracted from by the paucity of the sauce. If there is one dish that a French style bistro should be able to do in a wonderful and flavorful fashion it is coq au vin. Zazie's failure on this dish is telling. On a positive note, Zazie is one of those restaurants that has moved to a no-tipping motif -- and they spell it out explicitly. Bravo!

Brunch here!

By Paulina W |

Amazing dining experience. the steak and eggs are so delicious. The space is a bit tight and is always packed but the staff are so nice and if you're going in a group this is the place to be!

Great neighbor gem

By Jose F |

Our friends live near this place and took us out to Zazie's for brunch. If you can deal with crowds and a long line go for it. The food and service is great. The mimosa concept is great.

Delicious, but maybe not worth the extra effort probably required

By Kevin L |

I'll start with my knocks. First, it's kind of out of the way. Cole Valley isn't one of the hot areas in the city to visit, so you probably will have to make a specific trip to get here. Second, the wait is very long. We arrived around 10AM to see many people milling about outside in the sun. Our wait for 2 ended up being about 2 hours. Third, it is a small restaurant, so it's a bit cramped inside, and because of the wait, there's enough social pressure to hustle along. Despite all of those qualifiers, the actual meal was great. The service was friendly, and the menu is standard American brunch fare with a few twists. The menu allows you to order pretty much everything in 1s, 2s, or 3s (e.g. eggs, french toast), and they have a few daily offerings in addition to their regular menu, so you have reasons to go back. We ended up splitting the Tahitian french toast and eggs benedict. Both were delicious, and with 2 pieces each, we were plenty full. Oh, and their home fries are delicious. Definitely get those If I had a reason to come back, I would happily go, but I don't think I would recommend going out of your way for it.

Perfect breakfast

By ida_travels |

We had a lovely breakfast here. We went early and got in right when the place opened. In 20 minuets all the tables were full. So recommend going early. Gingerbread pancakes where super delicious. Service was good.

A Gem not to be missed

By jeffsmead |

The food is wonderful and the place is packed from the AM on but they turn the tables fairly quickly. They have outside seating in the back that does have heaters. The way they serve lattes is very unique. Would not miss this spot if we return to San Francisco.

They don't need my help. The food speaks for itself.

By Peter D |

Simply the best breakfast in SFC to my knowledge. If you get a chance, go there, but prepare for a wait of at least an hour. Conveniently you can chill in the Irish bar next door and they'll come get you. Win!

Great food and service!

By Bionic B |

This is an excellent neighborhood place, easy to see why its busy and a favorite amongst those who live nearby. Special was excellent as was the lamb.

Excellent!

By Karen_In_Delaware |

We had made a reservation in advance to coming out to San Francisco from the East coast after reading the reviews and their philosophy on the website. We were very intrigued to find a restaurant that treats its employees so well as far offering a comprehensive benefits package and the tip-free bill. And we were not disappointed. We sat out in the rear garden patio which was a lovely environment. The waiters were all pleasant, upbeat and very knowledgeable about the menu. Our food was excellent and it was the best meal we had while on our vacation. Well worth it!

Brunch as it should be

Breakfast

By Julie C |

We followed the trip advisor ratings and were not disappointed. Great breakfast and great service. Long waiting cue for tables inside. But all tables outside can be taken first comes first serve

Amazing breakfast off beaten gem

By bigpapiculo87 |

I probably can run of superlatives to describe Zazie. My wife and I stumbled on this breakfast place in SF. The food was awesome. Delicious. There was not a long wait to sit inside. They have outside seating as well. Small place and you are eating with strangers. If you don't like that stay away. Keep in mind the tip is included in the price of the plate. Definitely would go there again.

A wonderful Family French Restaurant in Cole Valley

By Vance C |

Tonite we had the quintessential French onion soup served with a warm roll and butter. We had the seasonal ravioli with black truffle. It was absolutely delicious. We tried Jen’s pick on the red wine to accompany dinner and topped off with the pot de creme. We have enjoyed many brunches here that are in our top five in San Francisco. Definitely visit this place if you love French food. Oh by the way, Adele ate here when she was in town. 😊

Great!

By Diane L |

Really liked this French style cafe. Was there for breakfast and had Florentine/ mushroom omelet. Perfect size; great diced potatoes: crispy with garlic bulbs sautéed in. No need to tip; included. A little bit more expensive than other locals but worth

Delicious Breakfast ever

By Adriana |

Excellent Breakfast and Brunch. Family friendly and best service ever. Lines can be long but it is worth the wait. We waited less than half an hour.

Love the cozy environment, great good, and tip free bill!

By Fiona S |

I have to say Zazie is in my top 3 favorite restaurants in the city (which could be partially to do with to the fact that I live in the neighborhood and a 5 minute walk to put my name on the list is pretty easy). The food is wonderful. Most people go for brunch, but the dinner recipes are much better in my opinion! Snag a reservation on a Tuesday evening and there is free corkage. If you go for brunch, make sure to get there an hour+ before you want to be seated as the wait is long and everyone in your party must be there in order to be sat. I also am a big fan of paying a little more for my food and not having to deal with a tip. Love that Zazie treats their staff so well (higher wages than other restaurants) and has a trip free environment.

Delicious 😋

By kieshiea m |

This is a must goooooo.... the good is so scrumptious. You may be a little deterred because of the long line but I'm telling you it's worth the wait. So park it and wait patiently. Make sure you try the cheese cake coffee cake. You'll thank you me later. YW

A perfect place for a delicious dinner... with your favorite friends and dogs!

By TravelerWithOpinions |

We loved our dinner on the back patio of Zazie on a Monday night. It's a lovely place ... and you can bring your dog(s)!! The food was delicious. The seating cozy and comfortable. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful. So glad we went there. (Reservations strongly recommended for dinner.)

Worth the wait!

By Ashley M |

This was our second time having brunch here and it was just as good as the first time. We waited about 45 minutes for a table - totally normal, so expect a wait. We were seated in the back patio, which is gorgeous by the way. Ordered a Chi Tea which was huge and delicious followed by some corn cakes with lemon curd and strawberries. One of my favorite brunch spots in California.

Talking about Brunch!

What a great place to have brunch! My son loved the Pancakes, Bacon and Hot Chocolate combination! French Toasts were delicious! I can’t wait to go back

Delicious fusion meal.

By Matt S |

Zazie was spectacular. The Mac n cheese was an amazing app. I had the poulet francaise and friends had the corn cakes with chicken and the pasta of the day. Everything was above expectation the flavors were grand and the positions filling. Thank you for such delicious food and great service.

Great eats!

By Trojnar T |

Very creative menu, friendly service. For me, the standout dish was the home fries. Garlic romancing the potato. Bliss on a dish!

Excellent food and service, great atmosphere!

By Cindy L |

We ate at the back patio under the heat lamp, love it! The soup of the day is of tomato and eggplant, I have never heard of any soup made if eggplants, but it is delicious! We visited this place 4 years ago for breakfast and love it too! They have no tip policy and it makes things so easy. The servers provide great service which is a proof that tips are not necessary when they were compensated well by the employers.

Best Brunch In San Francisco

By marym062 |

After walking around Haight Ashbury without finding anywhere to have brunch we can across Zazie by chance, a few blocks walk from main area and what a find this was. From the minute we entered the staff were very friendly and so eager to assist us make our choice, everything on the menu looked very appealing. I opted for Sara Jane's Pancake Flight which consisted of the best pancakes/french toast I have ever tasted and my husband went for the Un, Deux, Trois which was delicious pancakes, eggs and bacon with a side order of home fries. This was the best brunch we had during our month long trip to California, Zazie prides itself on paying all the staff the living wage, revenue share, paid family leave, fully funded health & dental insurance, paid time off, and a bonus. It is a pleasant change in a city where the tips are an essential part of the salary for many people working in the service industry. If you are in the area please take a trip to Zazie, you will enjoy it !!

Outstanding. Be prepared to Wait. Good luck on parking

By abearfellow |

Popular little place over on Cole street. If you're a tourist with car, count on good luck or a half hour to find a place to park. We were lucky and were able to walk right in on a weekday morning but otherwise, it was packed to the rafters and the line formed behind us out on the sidewalk. The wait staff was very very professional and courteous considering the crush. We didn't feel rushed at all. Menu is big and very adventurous. and in this case, adventurous is a good thing because they pull it off perfectly. the spouse had steel cut oats and they were great. I had the albert omlette. All of it was top notch. The tip is included in the meal but we noticed that most folks left a few bucks anyhow. Seems like lots of locals but who's local in SF anymore. highly recommended.

Didn't even go in

By BC2018cleveland |

Long wait time, but menu seemed very expensive and the host was extremely unpleasant. We also asked about gluten free options and he made it very clear that he does not recommend eating there since the kitchen is small. We perfectly understand cross-contamination, but this is definitely not for celiacs. We (as well as at least 2 more parties from the line) ended up eating down the block, in the much more inviting creperie.

Definition of "FUNKY" with great food!

By Margaret E |

This very intimate setting for dining looked very "rough around the edges" at first, squeezing past the service station to get into the back area of seating. Two-three areas of casual picnic-style table-booths back there are comfortable. The staff was great, offerings were imaginative and delicious. Two five year old guests, who eat out all over SF, love this place, too.

The best brunch of my life!

By Muna91 |

OMG Best salmon eggs benedict with the most beautiful small potatoes on the side. The best lemon pancakes with raspberry sorbet. Cute decor, lovely staff, sit in the outdoor patio if you can! Tip free!

Small Portions

By Jacquelyn J |

I live in SF so I’m aware it’s not a cheap place, but the portion sizes don’t match the price here. I had an eggs Benedict and it just wasn’t satisfying...

Worth the long walk :)

By CLPope |

During our recent trip to the city, we visited Zazie. Contrary to our first impression, there is a fair amount of seating (out front, inside, and in a heated patio in the back). The place was busy when we arrived and only got busier during our meal...on a Friday morning. My husband enjoyed the Eggs Benedict St Trop, I had the Scrambed Fountaineblue, and we shared the French Toast Tahiti. Our egg dishes were both delicious and the servings were generous. The French Toast Tahiti was ok, but would have been better without the overly sweet banana puree filling. I also love the business concept of this restaurant. It is tip free. The menu is priced to provide a livable wage, health care, 401k, etc for the staff. I hope that this becomes the standard for all service jobs! This place was worth the 2.25 mile walk (one way). :)

Comfortable Bistro

By travelhive |

Zazie is a somewhat "compact" French bistro in the Cole Valley with a surprisingly large menu considering how small the kitchen is. We ate here on a Sunday night and were lucky to get in with last minute reservations on a crowded night with a waitlist. There is a definite casual vibe with banquettes lining one wall and 2-top and 4-top tables along the opposite brick wall. In addition there is a outdoor patio with heaters in the back. Waitstaff was friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable about the (somewhat limited) wine list. You can bring your own bottles (with a $20 corkage fee waived on Tuesdays). The menu was somewhat traditional, meat-centric Bistro fare. Prices seem a little high, but that is because it is a tip-free restaurant giving it's workers a living wage and benefits. The food was done well and overall we had a good experience in comfortable surroundings. We would definitely consider coming back for brunch.

Quite good

By Lucy F |

I’m not American so I like that you didn’t have to tip. The service wasn’t great though- they said they were short staffed. It took a while to flag down a server for basic things like sauce. There is a queue you can join on yelp, but it was a bit annoying to arrive when it said to for there to be another fifteen minute wait. This is fine in principle, but when you can see multiple empty tables and you have to stand is a bit grating. The food was quite nice, I personally didn’t like the pancakes but my boyfriend who is American did, so I think that’s just a me thing.

Wonderful garden homemade breakfast experience

By Ander G |

The place looked packed but there's a good garden in the back so we managed to find a place. Don't give up and go inside. Staff super friendly, free coffee refill and no tips (Europeanesque) No weird orders, they ask you to stick to the menu Food was amazing No wifi

Nice staff limited choices

By Leonico49 |

Begin by complementing the very normal helpful non pretentious staff who seem to genuinely enjoy the customers Admittedly a difficult menu for vegans as meat takes the center role here. The feel the neighborhood and the city should inspire better attention to veggies even when part of meat based dishes Small full and subdued light in nice space and pleasantly not noisy is spite of those limitations

Excellent, We loved everything about Zazie

By jorgeceb |

Went for dinner, and the whole experience was excellent. The service, friendliness, especially in these difficult times was special. The food was amazing. Really good vibe overall in a very nice neighborhood. Best restaurant experience in our SF visit.

Good parsi buffet

By Rajarshi Chakraborty |

The first parsi restaurant in vashi. Have both alacarte n buffet options. The buffet is great with veg n non veg options. Had a chicken egg drop soup, 3 starters, 2 live counters including pasta, 3 items in main course with chicken beri pulao, chicken dhansak and mutton gotala with 2 desserts of caramel custard and vanilla icrecream with chocolate sauce. Good ambience and warm staff. Certainly worth a visit with family or friends . Price is reasonable with the non veg buffet at 560 all inclusive.

Best Breakfast I will EVER have.

By d75angel |

I came here on a Sunday morning at 8:40 as they open at 9am. I was about 35 in line but system works well. I signed in and was seated around 9:10. I ordered the omelette de jour (apple chicken sausage and fontina) and a gingerbread pancake. Amazing! I could go on about the food but you should check it out for yourself!

One of best brunch places around!

By DashTravels |

This place doesn't take reservations so be prepared for a loooong wait. But don't give up coz it's absolutely worth it! The food is delicious- no question about it. The staff is pleasant and makes you feel right at home. Do not miss the eggs Benedict! Or the mimosas :) I also love that they take care of their own. Whoever heard about 401k and paid parental leave for staff at a restaurant? There are companies that don't offer this for their employees. In short, do not miss this place. There aren't many (any?) places like this!

Really great fun food

By NancyGail |

Went for brunch on a Saturday. My husband and I split the Eggs Benedict Florentine and the French Toast Tahiti. Ordered portion size for two. Food was delicious and generous portions were served. The home fries were fantastic , I ordered extra crispy. My husband ordered a hot chocolate which was served in a deep bowl, very cute and clever. Worth the wait in line, the wait staff were lovely and the most polite people I’ve dealt with in a long time

Amazing brunch spot

By NJain27 |

Yum yum yum. Recently went here for brunch. We got mimosas (mango and a spicy one), french toast and pancake. The pancake was truly brilliant - one of the best I've had. I got the basic one. Everything was really delicious, especially the service. We sat in the patio and it's a really cute space. Also, the fact that this restaurant takes care of their employees makes me like them even more.

Disappointing, we won't go back

By LjWrwc |

The duck leg was too dry and some of the mussels were off. The beef bourguignon was the only good dish of the three we ordered. The wine (a GSM) was good and went well with the food. But we won't be back - mostly because we emphasized how picky we are about mussels and were assured they were super fresh, came in that day.

Acceptable lunch

By jakjabes |

Zanier has a small lunch menu, salads, sandwiches and a couple mains. Service started very friendly and then we got two out of the three dishes ordered. Our third order (and we were a party of three was forgotten). Dishes were okay, nothing spectacular. Their lunch special sandwich of figs and uncooked ham was tasty but on the oily side. A bit more attention to detail would be a positive improvement.

Worth a Trip to French Bistro in Quiet Neighborhood

By wwalleigh |

There are so many dishes at Zazie that I’ve had in France, that it was hard to choose. I was lucky that my favorite French dish, Cassoulet (a peasant stew) was on the menu. Each of us had enjoyable meals, each course of which was tasty, presented nicely and served by knowledgeable staff. If you like traditional French fare, it’s definitely worth a trip to this SF neighborhood.

A must-do for brunch in SF

By rdski17 |

I took the family for Mother's Day brunch a day early and all of us were delighted by the experience. We arrived at 8:45 to see a huge line out front, but were seated around 10mins after opening - they know how to manage a crowd. Waiter was engaging, on top of everything and very good with my young kids. The waitstaff in general seemed to be having a great time at work - a very positive indicator of solid management. The food came in good time considering the crush the kitchen was under at 9-9:30 on a Saturday. My wife and I had one of the many eggs benedict breakfasts and it was fantastic. Kids had pancakes, which the waiter suggested they split - a welcomed and rare behavior. Overall, the food was excellent as expected. The only caution might be that this restaurant is tight (spacewise) and busy - for those looking for something else. Overall, Zazie deserves all the business it gets!

Great little brunch spot!

By Shijna |

We live in the area and anytime we have friends visiting, we make sure to take the time to Zazie. Most brunch places have a fixed menu of only a few items to choose from, but Zazie has an extensive brunch menu of delicious staples, but seasonal options as well. Combine that with more than just the standard orange juice mimosa option and you can’t go wrong! Yes, the prices are higher than you might see elsewhere, but all service fees are included and no additional tip is needed.

Food Not Worth the Overpriced Brunch

By Mike G |

The wait was over an hour on a weekend and just by looking at the wait list and the number of people waiting in line, you couldn't help but have great expectations for the food and the ambiance. Well, we finally got our table, got seated, the place was small but with a nice vibe. We then got the menu and we ordered some eggs Benedict; but we were told that we could not get the classical eggs Benedict we asked for, the ones you can order everywhere, but we had to order one of their fancy options that either add prosciutto or whatever else. Bummer! So we ended up with some "fancy" eggs Benedict, $21 per person, the most expensive ones I've ever had, and sorry to disappoint but they were not as good as the regular ones I'm used to have. The bill ended on the very high side for a mediocre brunch, definitely not worth the wait. I don't know why this place is so busy for brunch time, it makes no sense to me, my wife had some "millennial" explanation where perception is more important than taste. I don't know about that but I am not a millennial and as such I was lucky enough to have experienced brunch at what used to be Alta Mira in Sausalito, great food, affordable with a breathtaking view on San Francisco and the Golden Gate. Man, I really miss that place!

Disappointed

By Edouard T |

We ordered a cassoulet, we got an ersatz. I suspect the food is pre-prepared from industrial supply. Service is good, funny waiters. Tables tiny. Last but not least we like very much the fact that service is included in the prices.

good but pricey

By Juls822013 |

This is one of those fare wage restaurants in the city. The tip is included in the pricing. We had breakfast. The food is very good. Service very good. Parking difficult. Atmosphere lovely. We got four breakfast, two drinks, price was $110.00.

Friendly, reliable neighborhood spot

By samweinbergersf |

French inspired tasty food from the region of France known as California! Very popular and busy for lunch/brunch but worth the wait. Fish dishes done really well, as well as the classics: coq au vin, boeuf bourguinone, cassoulet.

One of the best brunch spots in San Francisco.

By london_traveller6789 |

My husband and I arrived early one morning in December 2018 and were lucky enough to get a table straight away without having to queue. We settled down with some fresh orange juice before ordering scrambled eggs with avocado, mushrooms and toast for me and eggs benedict with smoke salmon for my husband. Both dishes were super fresh, generously portioned up and delicious. We loved the ambience and environment in the French bistro too and if we had more time in the City, would have loved to visit twice. Highly recommend to anyone passionate about brunch and who is visiting the Bay area!

Not sure why the cult brunch reputation

By lauraphrazer |

Zazie is fine. It's a good little neighborhood bistro. The service is very professional, and the food is good. But I have no idea why hordes of millenials wait for hours on the sidewalk to eat brunch there. Are gingerbread pancakes that rare? I prefer to eat dinner there, just basic good bistro food in the neighborhood, nothing I'd travel for, but I like it.

Super cute for breakfast

By mommy3ny3 |

Definitely try the coffee cake! Nice start to the meal. Very pretty patio area. Everybody liked their food … French toast, eggs, pancakes and gluten free English muffins.

Great food

By helenalee1234 |

We visited Friday late morning. After 40 minutes of waiting, we could get a table. Egg Benedict, pancake, latte and coffee cake were so delicious. Strongly recommend the restaurant.

Noooooooooooo! Not for dinner

By Marinite2 |

The staff are extremely nice- except the dishwasher who backed into me and didn't even turn around or acknowledge. The food is very, very tired. Even more tired than the exhausted, boring fare in Paris restos offering "Cuisine Traditionelle Française". Except not really all French. The roll was insanely hot but still quite tender and reminded me of the Pillsbury rolls we loved when we were pre-teens, so that was nice in a weird way. Cute, quiet neighborhood. Very quiet.

Great New Year's Eve dinner

By Les H |

New year 2016/17 dinner here. Food excellent, coped extremely well with my no gluten diet. Staff very helpful and all seemed happy in their work. Ambience wonderful. Very fair price for a New Year dinner.

Lovely Garden, Lovely Food

By MaiaTheTraveler |

Get to the restaurant early and ask to sit out back in the garden/patio and enjoy the mass of red/orange flowers on the huge trumpet vine (under heaters if it's chilly). The food is excellent, the service is friendly and gracious, plus dishes are delivered without long waits. (Though service is never rushed.) Zazie has delicious breakfasts (especially the french toast), and wonderful salads at lunchtime. At dinner, very tasty, hot rolls are delivered to your table when you sit down. Water is served mainly on request (Drought). Menu offers vegetarian items. Recommendations: Moules and/or Roasted Veggie plate as appetizers. Main course: the Bourride (a gorgeous fish stew), Grilled New York Steak BECAUSE it's served with a wicked brandy-cream sauce. NOT Le Carnard (duck) - very dry. Two additional notes: 1. NO TIPS; they're built in to the meal price, and they fund an impressive array of workers' benefits (the likes of which I've NEVER seen in a restaurant.) The staff also enjoys revenue-sharing. 2.Rakuten accounts currently get 4% money back on the price of the meal (as of 8.27.22). There's plenty of seating: Inside the the restaurant, tho' tables are a little crowded. There's additional seating just outside the restaurant's front door, and in the "Covid Cabanas" that have sprung up along San Francisco sidewalks during the pandemic. (While seating is plentiful, parking is NOT. But it's worth hunting up a spot - even if you have to walk a bit. (Pre-meal: work up an appetite. Post: work off the calories)

Excellent Breakfast!

By anne4442000 |

We visited Zazie on our recent long weekend in San Francisco. We chose to splurge on a pricey breakfast, and this was the perfect choice! It is a compact restaurant, but beautiful and fun to visit. The benedicts were excellent (I had the crab and avocado variety) and the portions were perfect. We left completely satisfied. We sat on the lovely back patio. Everyone who worked there was pleasant and looked like they were happy to be there - we did see a note that you don't have to tip because the restaurant pays a fair wage and offers benefits to their staff. But the food and service were so good that we tipped anyway! Definitely stop at Zazie for a visit!

Great food and service!

By Andrea F |

Very friendly staff! Good food! A bit out of the way but we came by bike, nice neighborhood. Would come back😊

Amazing pancakes!

By CQuinnRyan |

I came with a family member to enjoy the food at this well known, and highly acclaimed breakfast spot. I ended up having a fabulous omelet. However for "dessert" we ordered Zazie's famous cornmeal pancakes. The were incredibly! I highly recommend you order them on your next trip to Zazie!

Amazing brunch!

By Eric N |

Perfect way to start the day. I was there for brunch, arrived at around 11:30am on a weekday and there was no queue. Instantly seated in the back patio where they have heaters, even during summer! Not too warm though, but don't wear anything too warm if you're going to sit on the back patio. Menu is good, lots of choices ranging from regular breakfast including eggs, bacon and pancakes, to soups and salads. Nice choice of drinks as well, tried the mango juice and it was delicious. I ordered pancakes with mixed fruit and my friend ordered the eggs and bacon with fried potatoes. Both of us were happy with our choices, well made pancakes, perfectly fluffy and tasty maple syrup on the side. All in all, great choice for brunch!

Lack of basic costumer service

By Alex S |

So bummed about this place's attitude. Wrote to them directly from their website to offer them feedback and share our way below part experience. Would have been nice to receive a response. Clearly they feel they are above it. Some feedback I would like to share with you from our last visit. Having been to your restaurant a number of times in the past, I am quite disappointed at our experience during our visit on 11/7/22. Our food was delivered to our table cold. One of the rounds of coffee was also cold. One of the dishes had country potatoes that even the server agreed weren't right (no golden color to them, just pasty white). The server brought partially re-made dishes but the experience is not what it should have been. Eating my brunch in a "deconstructed" way is not what I wanted... Aside from these issues, the fact you include the gratuity in your pricing did not allow us to adjust accordingly and reflect our discontent. Gratuity (tipping) is a way of recognition for a job well done. From service to quality of food to atmosphere. Our experience was far from that.

Great Breakfast in Cole Valley

Get early to avoid a line. Once seated, you will be greeted by a happy and efficient staff. My eggs were perfect, garlic potatoes we excellent, coffee fresh.

Nice Neighborhood Fare

By BradYaz |

Plenty of food and well crafted. We sat out side in the heated garden and it was comfortable. Excellent service and all were impressed with their food. Would like to go back and try some of the other dishes. We had a wait of about 20 minutes at 2pm on Thursday afternoon. So be prepared to wait, especially if visiting at peak hours.

Fabulous neighborhood place

By BigMilton1894 |

Long line for brunch which is outstanding, shorter for dinner also fine. Terrific onion soup; always a favorite

Delish

By Jeri G |

Small space with many options for breakfast and brunch. Outdoor heated patio was roomier than interior. Excellent egg scrambles and sandwiches. Would definitely return next visit to San Francisco

Great place and tip-free!

By 1SFOSO |

4 couples had a great night dining at Zazie. The back patio is covered and has heat lamps, and it’s quite the nice atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable, especially when you do NOT have to tip - the cost of the service is built into the meal cost - go figure :) Excellent onion soup and burgers, good sized pork chops, and tasty pasta for vegetarians. Corkage is reasonable and desserts are diverse and delicious. Parking may be tough in the neighborhood but it’s right off transit lines and in a safe walkable neighborhood. Go here and walk away with more money in your pocket from not tipping.

Weekday Brunch!

By Stephen H |

WOW! Once again the best brunch I've had in SF! Sat out-front on the sidewalk (first come first serve) sign in for tables inside. The weather was sunny and warm, had the Dungeoness crab Benedict and latte bowl 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Large groups will have to wait but couples are fast moving for tables! We haven't had a bad meal or time ever here! Staff are friendly and patient to offer ideas, just ask!

Short Pours, Poor Food

By Renee S |

First, the wine. Oddly, Zazie, on the their beverage menu announces that their pours are 7 ounces, yet the two glasses that were served to us had about 5 - 5.5 oz in them. We know because we actually measured it out in a complicated exercise involving a Perrier bottle (I was dining with an engineer, what can I say?). Why announce you give 7 oz pours and then pour less? They just created an expectation and failed to meet it. Also, they serve wine in stemless tumblers. I ordered a burger, which was uninspired and overcooked. The arugula salad with it was just that, arugula and nothing else. My husband's duck was tasteless. For dessert, we had the crumble, which was decent, and the bread pudding, which was not good - too sweet and mushy with an uninspiring chocolate sauce mixed in. The service was adequate but unapologetic for the wine problem. Judging from our server's response, it seems they regularly under pour their wine. Sadly we won't be going back.
