Adorable market and gorgeous patio!

By Paulina Perrucci |

Such a great cafe & market! If you are in a rush, they have that covered for you with food to go! If you're looking to enjoy a nice sit down, I recommend sitting outside on a warm day! Guests had dogs which always is a plus in my book! I ordered an oat milk matcha and steel cut oats with oat milk, plus a green blend juice!

Coffee break

By Colin M |

While visiting downtown looking at a lot of the cool art on the street walls we came across Zinc which is a trendy cafe with lots of options food and drink wise. We only had drinks which were good. Lots of seating and parking around the corner for customers ($5)

Vegetarian and Vegan cafe

By sorabh |

It is big and staff is courteous It has vegetarian and vegan options only Sone dishes have egg too.Food is ok

The food was simply not good

By elsabiet |

We had a sald, which was ok, margherita pizza and pesto pizza, gluten free. They were terrible, and not only because gluten free. Crust was severely undercooked. Mozzarella had become hard. I also had a side of Brussels sprouts, which were half burnt and half raw.

Ambience can't compensate for over-priced fussy dinner entrees

By hakccmd |

Disappointed after having a great breakfast and brunch during prior visits. Short on staff, poor service and strange mixings of spices on main courses not appetizing. Drinks over-priced.

Very Cool Place...

By Wannabekauai |

If I lived in SoCal this would be a regular stop for me. We got there after the patio had already closed but since there were still customers out there, they very graciously let us dine outside. Had the bruschetta app and the traditional zinc burger. Very tasty! Highly recommend!

Delicious Vegetarian Food, Fantastic Atmosphere, Reasonable Prices

By dklany |

What more could you ask for, right? This restaurant/bar/cafe is set in the arts district of downtown LA. What a discovery it was for me. The mushroom nut loaf is killer. The tiramisu knocked me out. And the vibe is just cool. You can't go wrong.

Great sliders!

By Shashvisits |

Called in to have quick bite & drink, friendly service, had sliders trio which were delicious, definitely recommend. Place as a whole could do with a bit of attention. Displays of books, gifts cards etc looks really nice and pleasing and the w elsewhere seems a bit utilitarian and consequently you can’t help notice soft furnishings look a bit tired\ grubby. Although it was towards end of the day, restrooms have been benefitted from better attention. A small detail but makes a big difference.

Chill open air brunch spot

By Dr Joy |

Really good service and wide variety menu. Big servings, never able to finish what my hungry eyes order. Had both coffee and the mimosas. Big servings. I make sure to visit the place every time I'm in Los Angeles.

Delish. Fresh. Ultra Zen environment flashbacks to Laguna Beach in 80's. So glad they kept the magic.

Great discovery

By GE1Texas |

I business acquaintance took us here for lunch. Casual trendy and vegetarian. Very fresh food. Not cheap but not too bad and certainly worth it. This cool revitalized area of LA is a must see now. Lots of great restaurants, coffee places and bars. Go there.

Great for breakfast, lunch and dinner in weekend

treated very terribly here, also reached out to management and they did nothing. would not recommend. the employees were extremely rude, judged me based on physical appearance and ignored me. truly hurtful.

Lunch at Zinc

By ReeReeB |

Had a great lunch with friends at Zinc. Large array of dishes to choose from. Service was great and food was delicious. Street parking is possible, but you may have to walk a few blocks. Nearest pay parking lot is pretty expensive.

Breakfast feast with Family

By Alexandre K |

Great place for breakfast with a savory choice of pancakes, waffles, muffins, eggs and juices as well as a long menu. Restaurant includes also a grocery shop of fine delicacies and kitchen related products. Service is swift and friendly. Garden is nice with central fountain. We enjoyed our family breakfast that we visited again in the same week.

great for breakfast

By Deanna D |

We love Zinc's for breakfast. We usually get the great coffee with a scone. The full breakfast with quiche or avacado toast is very good.

Amazing Atmosphere and Food

By NettaBSB |

I visited this restaurant a week ago. Beautiful. I can't wait to come back. Try something different and bring my friends. Try the french toast and the matcha latte. Delicious.

Family friendly with decidedly exciting menu, this place rates as a must try again. A terrific ambience with great garden dining plus a superb bar. Food service and the presentation were fantastic. A gem!

A happy meat eater

By Alan661 |

I am a meat lover and never go to vegetarian restaurants, but I attended an art walk with 11 friends and the person that planned the event, picked this restaurant. What a pleasant surprise. I ordered the mushroom burger that was fantastic. The service was fast and efficient, and the staff got all ordered served quickly and correctly for our group of 11 diners. This restaurant is large with many large and small rooms which kept the noise down so this large group of matured adults could carry on a conversation at the large table that we were seated.

Vegie Hype

By climax56 |

Vegetarian hangout for young and old (mainly young :-) with decent food and a very friendly service. The location is a typical downtown warehouse type setup. Well done with a nice inside out flow.

Visited Zinc Cafe with my partner whilst walking around the Arts District. Iced latte was great and cookie super tasty. Really cool spot.

Great Vibe! The menu, food,

By Weimerunnr |

Great Vibe! The menu, food, and service were awesome. Great place for brunch or dinner. The coffee is great! Recommend the burgers, pizzas, and fries!

Memorable food and relaxing outdoor dining.

By DSchat |

Dinner date with my wife. Interesting decor and outdoor dining. We didn't find out it was a vegetarian restaurant until we arrived. Not a deal breaker though. Their menu had plenty of interesting options. I had the Chilaquiles and chili relleno. Delicious! Some of the best Chilaquiles I've had. My wife had the cauliflower pizza. The pizza was a quite bland so we asked to send it back and get something else. The staff was great and happily allowed us to get a different pizza. They brought out a vegetarian sausage and fennel that was quite good. Wood fired pizza is a favorite of ours and Zinc executes it well.

Perfect way to start the day.

By Leslie B |

Lovely setting. Excellent service and wonderful breakfast. It was a hot day so we ate inside but the open air patio looked very inviting. Had a green smoothie and a Belgian waffle- served hot! Lots of families with small children. I would definitely return on my next trip to LA.

Coffee and quiche

By Todd H |

Fantastic vibe and food! Love this place even though it is a little tough to find. The staff and food are great. Both are fresh😀

Too much room to improve

By MehmetPekerol |

You can read what a wonderful ambience it has and blue haired hipster crowd that hangs out here I will review the service. First it is one of those order here at the counter and eat wherever kind of restaurants. I had the pleasure of witnessing a tourist family sat on a table awaiting service for fifteen minutes and none of the service staff took initiative to tell them to rules of the place. Counter people look and act like college students who have never handles food even at their home. They always scatter the moment someone comes to counter trying to avoid eye contact with the customer. I have witnessed army of flies descending on food with absolutely no coverage or a blue light to rid the lights elsewhere in the place. The servers always act like it is their first day and almost ignore basic sanitary conditions. I have witnessed the server pick a spoon buried completely under the food and use it to serve me and leave the spoon on the same tray and went on the next spoon and did not once bother the clean anything. Mind you it was no rush hour I was the only customer. Bottom line customer service lacks except the Valet guy Manuel seems to be the most cordial and hospitable person in this restaurant. I recommend eating elsewhere until they train and pay workers better.

Sunday Brunch

By Newbie63 |

The restaurant has a nice set-up for our group of 20 women attending a baby shower . The food were delicious with ample portions and the service was great . On the negative side is the parking which is on the street and difficult yo find ( wish there was a valet ) . Also , there's a charge for cutting/serving the cake $2.50 per person .

New York Experience in Downtown LA

By lollydepaulo |

My first visit to L.A.'s Arts District was Monday evening and it felt like I'd been magically transported to an ultra-cool Manhattan neighborhood, the kind of place where my ultra-cook artist friends live and I love to visit. The area is fun for so many reasons: first, you have the gritty, brick warehouses, once home to a bustling industrial base now filled with lofts and galleries. Next you have a stunning 19 Century bridge with the architecture and workmanship those old structures are famous for and are sorely lacking in L.A. And finally, there is the food scene. Some places have been around forever, but others, such as Zinc Café is only four years old. Monday evening my friends and family, who were on a photo shoot in the area, met at Zinc Café. It has a beautiful outside courtyard and lovely ambiance. We arrived in time for Happy Hour and had some great pilsner on tap. We also tasted the wonderful vegetarian sliders and a shared a terrific vegetarian pizza. It was so much fun and a perfect end to a stressful day. I can't wait to go back. Shout out to Lucca for great service.

Tasty

By jbamf21 |

Just a heads up this place is vegan. Give this place shot the food is really good. But what I recommend is the chocolate brownie with walnuts and the scoop of ice cream. It is so good it's warm and with that cold ice cream. Mmm mmm mmm

Bright clean place

By TravelingFoodie |

Spacious and bright restaurant featuring both tables and booths, plus a relaxing open-air courtyard adorned with olive trees and equipped with outdoor heating. The atmosphere is inviting, though the music might be a bit loud for a breakfast setting

Fabulous Brunch

By Mary C |

We love Zinc Cafe, but we had never been for brunch. Wow, we were missing out. Now, it does get crowded, but the wait is worth it. The bakery might sell out of a few things, but everything is made there and so so fresh. Zinc is super pretty, right in the Arts District of DTLA. It has outdoor and indoor seating. You can also do take out or have it delivered. Parking can be hard, but you will find a spot. It is very comfortable inside. The service can be a tad slow when packed, but all of the staff is very nice and helpful. We were very comfortable there. We had the best brunch. We all shared some great dishes. We had SCRAMBLED EGGS & LEEKS which have caramelized leeks, soft scrambled eggs, seasonal fruit, and sourdough toast. The ASPARAGUS & MUSHROOM OMELET with goat cheese, lemon & a green salad was a real hit with my friends. I did not expect to like the LEMON RICOTTA PANCAKES with ricotta cheese, lemon zest, berries, and, of course, maple syrup. I was wrong. They were amazing. We also bought a bunch of scones to take home. The prices are fair. We loved brunch there. We will be back.

Great Vegetarian option in the Arts Distict

By Per N |

The Arts district is indeed booming and the gentrification has changed the area rapidly. I go there for work all the time and Zinc is a place I'd really recommend in general, but specifically for Vegetarian options. The venue itself is large but still feels cozy and warm. The service is quick and accurate. Parking may be hard to find....

A Souless Money Grab With Mediocre Food And Trashy Staff

By Eric B |

There are tons of terrible places to eat in LA, but Zinc Cafe sits atop the pantheon. This is the sort of place soulless hipsters go to buy overpriced blah AF food. Went here yesterday and experienced an extremely rude and 'privileged' staff. The burrito was garbage but at least they have hot sauce if you ask. Same can be said for the sliders. I did enjoy the lettuce and avocado cups. after they brought it out a second time for messing it up the first. I get that the place looks hip but I honestly think only terrible, uncultured people would eat at a place like this more than once.

Downtown LA/Zinc Cafe

By Rickkik13 |

Spent a fantastic morning exploring downtown LA (Broad Museum, Last Bookstore and Angels Flight). Finished off with lunch at Zinc cafe. Great vegetarian cafe, the vegetarian chilli bowl and cauliflower pizza were excellent (note it’s not a cauliflower base as per our incorrect assumption). Coffee was up to ”Melbourne” standards, and cups were massive !

Amazing ambience delicious food

By Nikola E |

Place is absolutely amazing. Ambience one of the kind very kind and professional service. We had pizzas and they were delicious. Place is definitely worth trying especially for vegetarians or people who have allergy on gluten.

Wedding welcome dinner

By parepidimos |

This was a fun venue for a wedding welcome dinner--pretty patio with tables for 10. Food was excellent, service too. Hip, low-keyed atmosphere.

Fresh, delicious and ample portions in a lovely space

By DeniseWakeman |

I've run by this many times and finally stopped in for breakfast this morning. My friend and I sat in the outdoor patio and even though it was cool, we had a heater next to us so we were comfortable. It took us a couple of moments of reviewing the menu to realize Zinc is a vegetarian restaurant. Not a problem. We order a French press pot of coffee which satisfied 2 coffeeholics. My meal was and asparagus and mushroom omelet with goat cheese, and grilled potatoes on the side. The flavors were delicate and worked together beautifully. My friend had the avocado toast and I was lucky to get a taste. It was awesome! Generous with the avocado on a nice "salad" for finely sliced radish. I'm ordering this the next time I eat at Zinc! There was a bit of a wait to get seated even though the place was not full (Saturday around 9:30 am). After that the service was attentive, helpful and friendly.

Definitely a Happening Place

By FLB |

We are enjoying spending time in the Arts District of Downtown LA and love eating at Zinc. You either order from the cashier or go through a line selecting hot and cold items that they plate right in front of you. You can tell the staff how much of eat food you would like. They then weigh it and you pay at the end of the line. They give you a number and will bring the food to your table. The place is very cool looking and the food is delicious.

Great breakfast.

By lindas286 |

Has the asparagus and mushroom omelette. Was very god. Nice shopping area while you wait for breakfast. Everything was really good!

Fun

By alpal4a |

In LA for work so I took my son who works in the area out for a happy hour drink and meal. We sat at the bar. Fantastic bartender! Sorry I don't remember the name. She was super helpful and created a lovely tequila drink and suggested very tasty bar food (sliders). Very cool atmosphere, even for an old lady. :))

enjoyable food, multiple options for service and places to eat

By Duncan P |

First time at this restaurant - it is apparently a chain. The food was good and I found that you could cafeteria-style it or get table service. There was a reasonable selection and prices were ok. Parking is available around the corner.

Can't wait to go back!

By noni40 |

Another Arts District cafe, but this one is spacious with a lovely patio, plus an outside terrace. Nevertheless, by 12;30 there was a line. We had the salad bar with is extensive and creative with more tempting offerings than one can eat at one time. We added the scalloped potatoes and they were outrageously delicious. Around us, people were having good looking burgers and sandwiches. Don't know what it's like at dinner, but I will make an effort to return soon.

wow

By travelshooter71 |

What a great new place! Friendly service and amazing food no matter what you order Great variety of drinks and a great atmosphere

Good vegetarian and vegan options!

By Tofurry |

We came here for dinner with family. We ordered family style and just shared several pizzas, soups and fries. Everything tasted great. We liked that a lot of items could be made vegan. The fries were especially crispy and delicious. The turmeric latte was also enjoyable. Prices were a little high but normal for the area.

Great lunch spot

By bu1larry |

Was told we had to stop by here for lunch, next time we were in here in LA.... Glad we did! We did the counter service and sat out in the courtyard. Basically, order & pay at the counter, and they bring your order out to you. Is was very nice, plenty of shade if you get chilly, and just enough sun to keep warm. I had the Zinc Reubenesque in Rye and a cup if Potato/mushroom soup. It was so good! Nicely grilled rye, melted gruyère, beets & sauerkraut. 😋😋

More hipster fun, bring your wallet

By Fraser000 |

2 coffees and a pastry for only $14! Wow, what an LA deal. But really, the food is well-prepared and it seemed like they took care with details (fresh, recycled packaging, etc.) and for hanging-out its got a good vibe. The wallet heft that is very apparent is a bit tiresome, but the "Arts" District has to provide the gentry with somewhere to go. Street parking is challenging and the lot is $5. Make sure you bring your cafe receipt so that it is only $5. The brie, arugula, pepper sandwich I got to go was awesome and the coffee well-done.

A heavenly brunch

By Formerly |

What a delightful place! Loads of atmosphere, great staff, and outstanding food. We came here for Sunday brunch, and despite Zinc’s considerable size felt blessed to get a table. Clearly it’s a popular place. Zinc’s menu is a work of art. The three of us struggled to decide between so many tempting offerings. Fortunately our server was both knowledgeable and wonderfully patient. My choice - the Asparagus Sandwich - consisted of toasted sourdough, cauliflower purée, asparagus spears, white cheddar, a poached egg and toasted bread crumbs… as delicious as it sounds. Especially loved the staff T-shirt. On the back was written: “Zinc therefore I am”.

An amazing find in DTLA!

By Vera D |

Is this a beautiful restaurant with a gorgeous patio under olive trees with a babbling fountain. The food was excellent and well priced. We had their guacamole and chips to start, then the mushroom pizza and Zinc salad. everything was delicious. They also have a great bar that can make some really unusual yummy drinks...ask the server or the bartender by giving them the liquor you like and let them come up with something for you!! I said "vodka" and what returned was a vodka drink with lemon liquor, prosecco and lavender..it was divine! I will be coming back to this restaurant again and again. There is guarded parking across the street but also lots of w/ easy parking along the block. They also have a nice market!

7/24/16

By Roxana Gonzalez |

Really good food we went for Brunch everything is made fresh to order. The only thing that bother me was that the size of the lattes change to a regular cup it just to be much more bigger that was the only upsetting part of my brunch.

Private Party Catering

By jocelynramir |

We help a private celebration for my Dad's 80th birthday at Zinc's DTLA location, and had the best experience. I coordinated with Heather on a full plant based menu that was very accommodating to my Dad's dietary restrictions, and she was so amazing throughout the process. The Zinc staff on the night of where super helpful and attentive and everyone loved the menu. Thank you to Heather and the Zinc team for making our celebration so great.

Meat free marvel!

By Andrew |

Went out for lunch to Zinc with family in April 2019. I don't usually go to exclusively vegetarian/ vegan restaurants but this one came on recommendation. We ordered the some wood fired pizzas and the mushroom dijon burger. The quality of the food was very good and the taste of all things served was amazing. We sat outside on the patio which had a nice ambiance to it. After lunch we perused the shop which has lots of lovely things to buy. Recommended and would go again.

DELICIOUS and fun

By VacaJill |

The food is uber fresh, delicious and interesting. The restaurant is clean, lively but relaxing. Wonderful for breakfast or lunch.

Solid Choice Especially for Vegetarians

By Rourke S |

This is a great place, and if you are a vegetarian a must visit if you are in DTLA. An outstanding choice of dishes, in a fun environment!

Outdoor dining with great vibe

By PeiT231 |

The restaurant has an airy feeling, industrial look, a beautiful courtyard. The food is delicious, avocado toast has herbs that adds extra flavor to it, the crunchy toast is a nice contrast to the soft avocado. The zinc sunrise juice is a beautiful art. Definitely a great place for outdoor dining.

Great Place for a Group

By Dan_Yucaipa_CA |

Ten of us stopped by after a concert and were quickly accommodated in the private room by the entrance. This was cool and quiet. Our server was peppy and very attentive. The food was delightful with lots of choices for both vegetarians and vegans. The spinach lasagne had loads of spinach. My mushroom pasta was outstanding. We parked in the lot across Willow for $2 for dinner. Not much street parking left.

Great!

By Anayansi Z |

Very good food. Had a delicious mushroom burger. The place is quite nice and calm. It is Dog friendly. Kind of bohemian style. Good customer service.

GOOD VIBE HAPPY PEOPLE GOOD FOOD

By srimanone |

Went here after awful experience at URTHH cafe. This place zinc has style, good food and pleasant folks working there. Service is fast and happy. Will def return here again. Loved the vibe

Super informal upbeat cafe, mini deli and bakery

By hakccmd |

Off the beaten path in the rapidly gentrifying Arts District east of downtown. Great spot for quiet breakfast; avacado toast a house specialty along with top notch freshly baked scones, and breads.

Cosy place with great food

By perlinde |

The outside pateo is super cosy, really love the atmosphere. Not to loud but not too quiet either. The food is awesome whether you're a vegetarian or not. Highly recommend!

'newish' - needs some time in the saddle ...

By BibbsAndConnie |

Visited here for dinner, which, by the way, was quite good. Right sized portions and very tasty. I had the mac and cheese - a familiar, but well executed entree. Accompanying salad was delicious. We chose to be seated on the gravel patio. This was not a mistake, but when the wind picked up, the staff should have offered to reseat us in the main dining room where there was plenty of room. The gravel for the patio could have been the type which packed and provided a firm surface on which to walk. As it was, the wood/metal chairs sunk into the gravel unevenly and necessitated readjustment overtime one moved. The restaurant has been open only seven months according to the waiter. Aside from the wind and the gravel, the patio ambiance was wonderful and cozy. Next time in LA, we will try again, but in the main dining room. Unless, of course, the gravel has been seated and packed. We are anxious to try other entrees.

Snotty and snobby middle class customers and staff with prejudice

By Marcos Davi |

This is on of the most elitist looking appearance restaurants in the entire DTLA. The customers are so blase, wealth and vega; seem to be those that are so concerned about environment but want to kick out the homeless (a growing issue in L.A.) from their sidewalk. The staff has prejudice and do not treat you well if you are a food courier, they seem tired and spare pleasantries, but I always see them being very cordial and kind to the customers.

Another fab vegetarian eatery - delicious food & cocktails

By adw |

My friend has recently moved to Downtown LA and he suggested meeting near his place for brunch on Sunday during our visit to LA. I was dubious at first as the area is definitely up & coming and I was convinced that his idea of vegetarian cafe was far from my ideal! BUT - how wrong was I! This place is a great find, it was really busy but they found us a table straight away in the courtyard. The service was friendly and the food was superb. It's so refreshing to find amazing vegetarian restaurants opening and offering original, fresh, appetising vegetarian food. Great place - would highly recommend a visit but would book in advance.

Amazing Ambience

By Denshai |

I come to Zinc for dinner. In the summer I love to sit outside with industry professionals. The ambience of this place makes you forget you are in downtown LA. They play old films, play soft music and serve delicious vegetarian meals.

Environment 5, Food 3

By Nancy D |

Large hipster restaurant in the Arts District. Indoor and outdoor seating. Vegetarian menu. I had the grilled cheese sandwich which was greasy yet tasty. The side salad was supposed to have vinaigrette dressing, but it had none. The waitress didn't come by to see how everything was, so I ate what I had. When she came to clear our dishes she didn't seem particularly apologetic. My friend also was given an undressed salad. On a positive note, they didn't rush us to turn the table. They have two more locations, one in Del Mar and the other Laguna. I know when we arrived here that I'd eaten at their Del Mar location before and I think I felt the same. 3+. When I'm back in this area I'd probably opt to try a new place versus returning here. The prices were reasonable and not overly expensive for this type of trend setting place.

Home from home

By Kitty Mo |

There is off road parking next door. Do book. The bakery sells out fast. There is a take away line and several dining areas including outside in a courtyard. The men had to start breakfast with cinnamon puffs and coffee. Large donuts coated in sugar and cinnamon. All the food was good. I would recommend their version of huevos rancheros. I am told the waffle was also good, it proved too large to finish. I really liked the food, the place was clean and spacious I would definitely chose to eat here again.

Amazing Take Out

By Stefanie D |

Loved the Mushroom Nut Loaf with the marinara sauce. It was absolutely delicious! As a vegetarian I was super happy with this restaurant!

Go for the dogs...

By Splash46 |

I love having meals at Zinc in the outside gravel garden that allows dogs with dinners, very European and calming. Add in candlelight in the evening, family gatherings full of laughter and an always excellent menu (always start with the humus plate) and you know why the LA arts district is flourishing...

Delicious and nice place.

By luisatravels |

The place is super nice and the food is delicious! The coffee is great and the avocado toast is truly very well done. Worth coming to and it is in a cool area of Downtown LA!

Brunch in the Arts District

By Rhiannon D |

Breakfast opens at 8am at Zinc if you want to get out and about. Get a seat in the garden - it’s lovely and there’s always people with dogs, which is cute. There’s no meat on the menu but it’s incredibly varied so you won’t be spoilt for choice.

Trendy spot for veggie-lovers

By imskimmy |

Cafe, market, eatery. You can go to counter ahead to order a beverage to enjoy in the cafe seating scattered by the entrance indoors and outdoors. You can veer to the right and browse through the market area to see if there are any knick knacks to pick up. You can go to the host waiting to seat patrons to the left, either indoors or in the courtyard area. There's also a back room area that features another cool and hip section. We were seated in a booth that was comfortable with ample natural lighting from the floor to ceiling windows that faced the courtyard. The menu was inviting, all vegetarian items, but the descriptions were drool-worthy. The waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. We had a comfortable meal with easy conversation during a weekend brunch hour. Not bad at all! I felt like the food was fresh and clean. I enjoyed it all!

Several visits later...

By michaelh558 |

Right up front I like Zinc but I have noticed some inconsistencies on the most recent visit. The food is entirely vegetarian and some might be vegan as well - I'm not that tuned in. I've had the Beet Reuben and it was amazing but the recent Egg Salad (which looked good on paper) was a disappointment - the amount of mustard overwhelmed the taste of the sandwich completely and the sourdough bread was dry...you could sand the bottom of a boat with it. Otherwise the service is friendly and it all seems to fit the profile of a vegetarian place on the edge of the LA Arts District. I will likely go back but if I get another dose of sub-standard it will be met with a pass the plate back. Go, enjoy, but watch carefully.

a breather on the edge of Arts District

By tatz |

Get this: On a Saturday night, no trouble in finding parking just around the corner and no trouble in making reservations about one hour before. Pretty hard to beat in this part of hipster LA. Staff is extremely goood: They are exactly what a waiter and waitress should be: friendly, helpful and not constantly checking up on you. No fuss here and that's a breather. The food we ordered (Chicken Parmesan, Spinach Lasagna, Stuffed Pepper) was all very well prepared, a good amount of food on your plate (again no fuss, no arrogance) maybe a little bit too much tomato in all 3 dishes but I'm not complaining. The deserts were a delight, and the atmosphere is overall minimalistic and still very cozy. Do this. Go here, it's worth it.

Truly a Hidden Oasis in Downtown LA

By Michael L |

Trekking East to downtown is always a treat as you never know what you may find and stumbling upon Zinc Cafe Market was no disappointment. Tucked away on an industrial street, this converted garage/factory/industrial space oozes serenity with their professionally landscaped patio and doggie friendly atmosphere. Locals of the area seem right at home here enjoying thoughtfully designed cocktails and appetizers as they gaze off into the beautiful downtown urban landscape. All that is wonderful, but here's the kicker. Zinc is entirely vegetarian! There I said it! Everything they serve is a vegetarian version like Veggie Burger Sliders, Ruben Sandwich with Beets, Spinach Lasagna, Amazing Choice of Pizzas, just to name few. Everything we a tried was amazing and we left the spot wanting to visit the new Bar Mateo but babysitter wasn't having it, maybe next time. If you're in the area I highly recommend stopping by, you won't be disappointed.

Good Brunch!

By 20Twenty |

Good Food and casual ambiance. First time I had a breakfast burrito in a bowl! We had Zinc Grilled Chicken, Waffles, Cheeseburger, and everything came fast and was delicious.

Healthy downtown restaurant

By PilotMichael |

This is a really nice and healthy restaurant in downtown Los Angeles in the arts District. It's a very big restaurant with many indoor and outdoor different types of seating. Their food is very healthy. They are in a trendy evolving part of town. They're overpriced, however still quality.

Nice All Around Local Eatery

By Andy D |

Went there during our 1st trip to LA. Our son lives in the area. Both breakfast and lunch were very good. Great outdoor seating on both sides. Would go again.

Great for Breakfast

By Richard Newcomb |

I was invited here for a breakfast meeting and had never heard of the place. What a cute little neighborhood place for breakfast. You place your order at the counter and they deliver it to your table. Nice food, responsibly priced and in a cool space.

Lovely ambience, poor service and mediocre food.

By S B |

They never served one of the people in our group her lunch. They forgot part of my lunch. Parking is impossible. It is a lovely restaurant environment. I will never return.

Vegetarian Sanctuary in DTLA Art District

By W H |

Props to any business having the guts to operate within the DTLA area and contributing to its growth. This restaurant is located in the art district and this particular corridor is growing (come on, Blue Bottle is here). If only the area between Little Tokyo and DTLA proper was more cleaned up and safer to get here - there'd be a lot more foot traffic. Once you get to this place, it is pretty massive (proper bar, several indoor dining areas & a beautiful outdoor area) and the decor is fresh Californian and total respite from the blight in the area. It is vegetarian and the food was outstanding (I'm not even a vegetarian). We had a party of 5 with a baby. The freshly made juices were photogenic & delicious (skip the Arnold Palmer - average). We had french fries, humus dip, chili, soup, burger, pizza and citrus linguine and two cakes for dessert - all tasty. Total bill came out to $ 170 USD. I would definitely come back to enjoy the ambience and explore other things on the menu.

Awesome food! Great service!!

By Jillian O |

Really wonderful fresh food, open atmosphere, pretty cafe- lots of gluten free options. Fun bar in the back! Our server in the bar was so nice!

Breakfast in pleasant surroundings in an unlikely place

By Travelom |

We had a very nice breakfast here. Order at the counter and a server brings your meal. Typical breakfast food, although my husband had an omlette that turned out to be too spicy. I was planning on quiche but the flavor didn't suit, so I had an excellent egg platter. All were served with high quality fresh fruit. Service was prompt and the surroundings were pleasant. Parking in the area was a little tight. All in all, I would recommend this spot.

great resturant

Zinc is a downtown LA weekend scene: big, airy and modern. Friendly service. For $18 I had a wonderful 3-egg omelette with asparagus, mushrooms and just the right quantity of goat cheese lightly spiced accompanied by a small fruit salad with mangos, strawberries and blueberries and sourdough toast and jam and a large brewed coffee. Just right.

Great vegetarian restaurant

Visited LA for 5 days and went here for dinner twice! Such a beautiful place and amazing food. Both times we were seated immediately (Saturday and Wednesday night around 9pm) and had very kind waiters. Saturday we sat in the beautiful outdoor patio; it was a chilly night but we sat right under the heater so we had no problem. The outside area feels very romantic and chic. On Wednesday it was raining and we sat inside but it was also very nice. The menu is a dream come true for vegetarians!!! You can actually eat everything in it! I tried the chilaquiles and they were amazing!!!! They come with a chile relleno, they are spicy and delicious! Highly recommend them! Also tried the funghi pizza, it was good but not as good as the chilaquiles. My friends had mixed drinks from the full bar and they were both happy with their choice! Would come back here anytime!

Discovered it by happy accident!!

We set out to enjoy our day in DTLA and discovering vegan food at Smorgasburg. Unfortunately it wasn’t open due to the Holidays. Our search on yelp for vegan/vegetarian brunch took us to Zinc Cafe. A little expensive (that’s the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) but a great choice of dishes on the menu. The fries were crisp and delicious with harissa. Has the acorn squash pizza minus the cheese. Loved the flavors of toasted nuts and fennel greens. The Golden Latte with almond milk transported me to my childhood when my granny gave us this in winter to cure sore throats!

It was good.

The space is great. I grabbed about 5-6 things to go for my quick lunch back to the airport. The girl helping me seemed annoyed. I was excited to eat it once I arrived at airport. It was good. Not great.

Go for brunch!!!

Zinc has an amazing brunch. Lots of choices, but I loved the french toast. I also tried the pancakes with ricotta on another visit and they were very good. Service is excellent. Lots of seating whether you like indoors or out and they have a very nice market attached to the restaurant. This place is a gem!!!

The best lasagne in the world

By PaulK1960 |

In a rather unassuming location, this cafe/restaurant stood out for me due to the dinner I ordered: a spinach lasagne, which was easily the best lasagne I have ever eating anywhere in the world. This place is worth going to just for this one dish, which had a combination of flavors that I have not experienced before in a lasagne, and I have eaten many dozens of these before. The texture was also superb. My five companions also enjoyed their food, but did rave about them as much as I did about my lasagne. The service was also excellent (a slight delay in receiving some drinks was explained by a large group being there).

Fresh, bright, friendly vegetarian

By Neulara |

Didn’t even realise this was a vegetarian restaurant. No vegetarian superiority attitude that can come with some of these style of venues. Great space with indoor and outdoor seating and a variety of spaces for small or large groups. The lunch menu options were wide and all looked and tasted great. Super fresh ingredients and generous serves. Couldn’t fault anything. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Stumbled across Zinc by accident and really want to go back for dinner ... maybe breakfast as well.

Fantastic place

By LnS2004 |

This restaurant, located in the Downtown Arts District (there is a Blue Bottle just across the street), is absolutely wonderful. Parking on the street was relatively easy around lunch time on Mother's Day when we visited. The modern, bright, spacious interior and outdoor patio (tastefully separated by floor length windows) projects a welcoming ambience. The dishes we ordered from the all vegetarian menu (French toast, cauliflower pizza, potato arugula pizza, waffles, avocado toast, asparagus sandwich, chili, asparagus & mushroom omelet) were well crafted and delicious. We didn't miss meat at all. Obviously this place caters to a younger hip crowd but we enjoyed our experience and felt comfortable being here. All in all we had a great time. For sure we will be back if simply for a drink in the beautiful space. It’s good to see that this restaurant offers multiple handicapped accesses, including an elaborate lift at the front.

Best Avocado Toast in Downtown LA

What a find in the heart of the Arts District in downtown LA. A great social scene and the food oh the all vegetarian vegan food. Just yum. Give it a try ❤️❤️❤️

Tasty food and drinks

By julialux347 |

In LA there are a few Zinc Cafes and we were in three in different parts of the city for brunch, lunch and dinner. you can seat inside and outside (with heating). Every time food and drinks were very tasty. Usually many people but waiting time was ok.

Great place East of downtown LA

By BigSur707 |

Excellent place. Very much hidden away in an old industrial area East of downtown LA, within the arts district. Came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The food is excellent: all fresh, normal sized portions (instead of gigantic US style ones). Service was friendly and efficient, while remaining discreet. There are two nice spaces outside, one in the front of the restaurant, the other one in a garden on the side. Garden had nice olive trees. The crowd is very much on the hipster side. Overall, the place had a really nice feel to it: contemporary look, normal people serving who don't take themselves overly seriously, excellent food, casual and relaxed ambiance. Would very much recommend for something different for brunch or breakfast.

Great place to eat and relax

By telegrau |

We just came to walk around then I spotted this place and had to go in. After circling the buffet for umpteen minutes, I decided to pick a few items. I immensly enjoyed the food, if you get an outdoor table the better. They also have a full menu.

Hard to rate.

If this is the Zinc we ate at ( hard to tell by description) it is a cafe that has one serious flaw. First the good news. The vegetarian menu is excellent. The food is innovative and very well done. Kudos to the chef. The flaw which takes away from the experience is that the staff need serious training. They were totally winging it. Entries came out for one before apps for others. Orders and requests were forgotten and they looked lost. Pity. They were nice people doing the best they could but were not prepared for a large party. So an food is victim of service.

Yum Vegetarian Food

My friend & I had lunch here one Wednesday. She had the lasagna and soup of the day, I had the mac & cheese and chilli. We were both happy with our meals. I also really liked the decor. It's minimalist without being cold. The restaurant is also pet-friendly and I saw at least 3 adorable dogs there. We didn't have drinks so I can't comment on that. However, the food menu has quite a lot available and I can attest that the food is great. Also, service was quick and courteous. I had absolutely no complaints about this restaurant.

Zinc is pure gold

Great breakfast!

Breakfast outside in the Spring is a great experience. The courtyard is charming and the food is very, very good!

A total east of downtown find: delicious, well priced

By Lorrilj |

I work in Hollywood and was meeting a colleague from East L.A. She suggested this cafe east of downtown (it's also a very cute market and bar) not far north of Church & State. It serves a smorgasboard of hot and cold salads and other dishes that you pay for by weight. I tried about 8-10 different things (in small portions) and all were completely delicious. Examples were grilled asparagus (and many other veggies), quinoa, grilled chicken, devilled eggs, lasagna, stuffed potatoes, cous cous, asian noodles, etc. This place has something for everyone and every diet. I'll try it for pre-theater dinner the next time I'm downtown for a show.

Pleasant weekend breakfast

By jisabr |

We had Saturday morning breakfast here. Its in a warehouse district, but significant condo residential construction is under way. Bright and airy with indoor and outdoor seating. Food was very good with substantial portion sizes, my avocado toast was very filling, as was my guest's waffle. Service was a bit on the slow, relaxed side which is what we wanted on this day. Overall, a good experience that we will repeat. There is an attached bar, we did not partake, but the space was inviting.
