Lunch with a friend on a rainy Saturday

By MF C |

A friend and I were visiting Bay Ridge for the day. We had planned to do a lot of walking but around noontime it started to rain hard so we decided to grab a bite at one of the local restaurants and hope the weather would clear by the time we were finished. We found Zio Toto and the menu looked good so gave it a try. We weren't disappointed. They have a large selection of pastas, pizzas and other items. We both went for the pizza.I went for a Margueritat pizza that included broccoli rabe, eggplant, tomato and basil on top. Wow, was this filling and tasty! I ended up taking part of the pizza home and enjoyed it the next day for lunch. The service is fair. The venue is pleasant although on the small side. The quality of the food, however, made up for these shortcomings. By the time we were done the sky had somewhat cleared and we proceeded on our merry way of walking around Bay Ridge.

A Stand Out in Bay Ridge

By ItalyLovers4Ever_10 |

There are many, many Italian restaurants in Brooklyn, especially in Bay Ridge, so it's difficult to pick one that has good food, great service, nice atmosphere, and reasonable prices without a recommendation. Zio Toto is one of the picks! From the basket of foccacia bread thin slices at the beginning of the meal, attention to detail is important here (one warning, about the bread - it was so good we asked for more and we were charged for it! Only $5, but since our bill came out to close to $200 [for 4 people], the charge was a little tacky, in my opinion). The arugola and noci salad was plentiful for two, and the shrimp dish my wife had, and the lamb chops I had, were nicely presented, decent portions, reasonably priced. The wines by the glass were listed by grape, not vineyard, which was questionable, so it was safer to order by the bottle, but most bottles were in the $30-40 range, which wasn't exorbitant. Desserts were also varied, and delicious, all within the typical Italian restaurant repertoire, but that's to be expected in a neighborhood Italian place in Bay Ridge, and there's nothing wrong with that. In the warm weather, there is also a charming little garden in the rear to enjoy al fresco dining. It was a very pleasant meal and experience, heartily recommended.

Nice Italian Experience in Bay Ridge

By Richard S |

We were visiting family in Bay Ridge from Connecticut this past weekend. Our party of four went to Zio Toto for dinner. The food was delicious and the service was great. I usually order lasagna, my favorite dish, when I visit an Italian restaurant. This was one of the best lasagnas I have had, highlighted with their Bechamel Sauce. The rest of our party enjoyed their dinners as well. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. A great dinner experience in Bay Ridge.

Old School Italian Gem

I had dinner at Zio Toto on a Saturday night. Make a reservation. This place was packed. Great food. So many choices. They also do brick oven pizzas. They have outside seating too in their garden. Great place for a date!

A real find in Bay Ridge.

By Peter S |

There are numerous better known Italian restaurants in Bay Ridge, but Zio Toto proved a real find. It definitely surpassed the more well known Areo, Tuscany Grill and Pontevecchio in both food quality and service. The prices were also quite fair. The food is true Sicilian and interesting and mouth watering. My wife and I stumbled upon this place while walking up Third avenue and it proved to be a real find. We had dinner the following night with friends at Pontevecchio and Zio Toto surpassed that restaurant in every respect. My wife and I shared an excellent dish of grilled Calamari over beans in Hot sauce. My entree was a penne dish with both ricotta and eggplant . My wife stayed with a more traditional eggplant entree. We ran into friends at dinner who live right down 83rd street and they told us they eat here often as they find it the best in the Neighborhood. I agree it is and service was friendly and proficient. Last but not least, the price is right.

Good experience

What a pleasant evening in a small cozy restaurant with great food. Excellent baked clams and a delicious grilled pork chop with Barolo reduction sauce.

Awesome

Totally enjoyed the meal at our first time here. Service is very good and prices are reasonable. Valet parking is a great help in this area. Appetizers were hot antipasto. Entrees of lobster ravioli, rib eye, pasta bolgnese and pizza were all done with care and were delicious. My new go to place in bay ridge.

Great Baked Clams

By Mjasen1 |

I always get the baked calms when I go there, generous portion enough for two, but I love them so much that I have to eat it all . They have a very good variety of Italian cuisine. Staff is very friendly and atmosphere with the Italian music is so relaxing.

What a great deal for lunch ! !

Adult son and I have not been here in a long time. They have a 14.95 lunch special which has many choices of entrees and includes soup or salad & coffee and tirimasu. I had the salad which was very fresh and lovely with good greens, tomatoes, etc. I had the pollo limon (lemon chicken) son had the pork chop. We both really enjoyed our entrees. Service was very good, we thought much improved from previous times there. They had quite a crowd on this late afternoon. Coffee is good and so is dessert. A very pleasant lunch on a beautiful day with the entire storefront open which was perfect! Son had a Peroni (5 bucks) and I had a pinot grigio (8, big wine glass, generous pour!)

Good solid menu of Italian style food

By Basan |

Small, homey, rustic but clean and comfortable, with almost formal table settings to ensure you experience that fine dining felling. The food is delicious, fresh ingredients and reminiscent of Italian restaurants and trattorias. We experienced friendly, competent service from our waiter-not intrusive but definitely attentive. We had veal scaloppini and the eggplant pasta and both dishes were fabulous. And for dessert, get the tiramisu!

Nice neighborhood restaurant

By BingieBoy |

I have eaten here four times, and was delighted with each visit. They have a wood-burning pizza oven and the pizza is outstanding. All the salads and appetizers were also very tasty. I particularly liked the baked clams. They use the small cherrystone clams which are very flavorful. The lasangna was very good on a chilly, rainy day. They also have a small outdoor area in the back with a few tables if the weather is nice.

Friendly Service - Food... Eh

By Joann S |

We had dinner here this weekend. There were 4 of us.. The meal was standard southern Italian... not bad but other Bay Ridge Italian restaurants are better and are in the same price range. For appetizers we had baked clams and hot antipasto. The clams were rather small but tasted OK. The hot antipasto was good. For our entries I had linguini with white clam sauce. The clams were hard and tasteless. My husband had Shrimp Fra Diavolo with spaghetti. It was so spicy he left half of it on the plate. My son in law had a personal pizza - which was OK but he didn't finish it. My daughter had some kind of pasta dish and she liked it. The service was very good... very personable and attentive wait staff. If this restaurant was located in some remote area, I would go back there for Italian food. But since it's located in Bay Ridge, where there are so many better options, I would not.

Always wonderful

By Strongwinder |

I have been tens of times at this restaurant. It is never disappointing; very cozy atmosphere, good service, wonderful italian food. Lasagna is to die for! I live in the neighborhood and oftentimes come in without a reservation - no problem, they will do their best to accommodate you.

I Expected Better

By Dom A |

I had heard so many good things about Zio Toto from friends and family and unfortunately I was disappointed. While the food was not bad, there was nothing that jumped out at me or my friend, flavor wise, that wowed or impressed us. I might try this place again for their pizza, or one of their meat dishes, but maybe not. Bay Ridge has too many restaurants worth trying. Lastly, the restaurant is small and there is no area to wait, as we needed to, if your table is not ready. Hence, we were standing next to people sitting at their tables while they were eating.

Truly a Third Avenue Gem

I absolutely love this restaurant. If it's your first time here, get the lasagna, you will thank me.

Lunch with our daughter

By Burnie D |

Looking for a book we decided to stop at Zoo Toto for lunch because they're busy. It turned out to be a good choice. We each had a different Panino sandwich for $9 each. They were big and tasty. So big we took some home for later. Service was good as was the food.

Not as expected!

By svinvictus |

We had a July 4th reservation for our anniversary and we were seated promptly. The waiter was reasonably fast and immediately gave us the specials. The wine list, which is reasonable for this size restaurant, did not have my first two choices so we were forced to choose a wine that we did not know. It was drinkable but definitely not worth the price. Our table was not reasonably laid out and we had to ask for dinner forks rather than salad forks for the main course. No bread was ever offered or brought to us either. We began our meal with calamari which was not fried thoughly. It was soggy and pale yellow rather golden and crisp. When the main courses arrived the shrimp dish had a definite after taste and could not be consumed. The waiter came over quickly and took the dish away. We ordered a lump crab dish that could be made and brought quickly, but after close to half an hour later had never arrived. The veal on the other hand was over cooked and grainy, but eatable. However, nothing but spinach accompanied it. We ordered a side dish of linguine and white sauce to go with it since the replacement dish never came out and we were hungry. However, even before tasting it you could smell that the chef had burned the garlic. Upon tasting the linguini we found that not only was there burned garlic but the pasta was not al dente but under cooked and not seasoned at all. All in all, one would expect an Italian restaurant to make these basic dishes correctly and well. This was not the case. We do not expect to return anytime soon. The two stars are for the cuteness of the restaurant and the poor waiter who tried to do his job.

One of my favorite restaurants in Bay Ridge

By Elizabeth290 |

Cozy and comfortable, one of my favorite restaurants in Bay Ridge. Every meal I have had there (at least 20+ and counting) since their opening 5 years ago, has been great. Pasta, brick oven pizza, chicken or fish - all are fresh, perfectly prepared and well presented, The homemade Sangria is fantastic. The salads are superb as well. The prices are reasonable, Perfect for date night, friends night out or a family gathering. Zio Toto is my "go to" for any occasion for a very enjoyable, relaxed meal.

nice place

The dining area is small and you will be sitting very close to other patrons. The risotto is very good and they have a small but nice wine selection.... many of the other diners were ordering pizza and it looked good.

Delicious Meal at Zio Toto Restaurant

By LeisureTraveler67 |

Instead of our usual 4th of July barbecue, we decided to have dinner at Zio Toto's Sicilian-style cooking restaurant in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. What a fabulous meal! After being seated we were served a warm tomato and onion topped focaccia bread and sliced Italian bread along with a black olive, minced red onion and celery extra virgin olive oil mixture for dipping. We first had a Zio Toto salad comprised of succulent grilled shrimp, chopped tomatoes, arugula and capers. We then had the Torta di Granchio (Jumbo lump crab meat imperial tower served over sauteed spinach and grilled tomato). It was light, flavorful, and truly delicious. Next came the Rigatoni Siciliana, which consisted of rigatoni pasta, sauteed eggplant, onions, ricotta salata cheese, and capers. The pasta was al dente as it should be. We finished with the Nutella Paradise desert and coffee. The service was excellent as was our dining experience overall. We highly recommend Zio Toto for a great Sicilian-style meal.

Great place for dinner.

Nice Italian restaurant

Small place, delicious Italian cuisine and fast service. Stopped here accidentally and really liked it.

Not worth it

By Natalie1217 |

Small Italian restaurant that is not ran professionally. Came in my baby and we had to ask for plates/utensils numerous times. My pasta dish had a black small hair in it and they returned the dish without an apology. I had to eat well after my husband and daughter were finished. My husbands salad was good but my daughters pasta primavera had no taste at all. What pissed me off the most was that they didn't do anything nice for us being that I had to eat alone with my baby wanting to leave. Never will return.

Great food, great service.

During a business stay in Brooklyn, I asked a local where to get some good food. He suggested Zio Toto, just around the corner. Thank you local Yankee Fan! This was a fantastic suggestion. Specials were interesting and enticing. Traditional Italian entrees and pasta dishes, but with added flair. Delicious food. Comfortable space. Great Service. Reasonable prices.

Truly delcious food in a quaint, romantic setting with wonderful service!

All of their pizza choices are delicious, their lasagna is to die for and the misto fritto is perfection. Highly recommended for a date night, perfect place to go when you're not sure where to go and the only destination when you crave home cooking but don't feel like going into the kitchen!

great italian restaurant in Bay Ridge!

By John P |

This restaurant has great pasta, pizza, and dessert. I went to this place two times; both experiences were very good. The first time I went there we sat in beautiful outdoor seating and the waiter was very nice; so was the service. I ordered a personal pizza which was fresh and all the toppings had much flavor. I do recommend getting the pizza here. The second time, we sat inside. Although it is a little small, it is cozy. I ordered pasta with crushed red pepper in a red sauce. The pasta was very fresh and so was the crushed red pepper; the sauce also had a lot of flavor. Then for dessert, we ordered chocolate souffle. Although the waiter told us that this was a 20 minute wait which was very professional of him, it was well worth it. I enjoyed my time at this place and I highly recommend going here.

Amazing pizza
