Zocala is the perfect place to let your hair down with friends over a margarita pitcher and aunthentic Mexican cuisine right in the heart of Midtown Atlanta.

Really good Mexican eats

By michaelgrindell |

Went to Zocalo on a weekend night. Shared the fresh guac at the table, very good. Shared the Arrachera - was excellent! A definite midtown stop!

Terrific food!

By Benjamin W |

We stopped here twice on our road trip to and from Florida. We wandered in our first night because it looked neat from the outside and we were met by amazing service, fantastic drinks and terrific food. We had a top shelf margaritas that were superb and Mexican fare that blew our socks off. The establishment was busy both nights we were there but food was speedy and service excellent. The crowd of people was great and it was very LGBT friendly. The management was attentive and friendly and offered great suggestions to us for activities and things to do in the area. I'd come back in a heartbeat and recommend this place to any friends I know traveling through or to ATL.

Tableside guacamole

Treat yourself. The atmosphere, wait staff, food and drink are all completely worth it. We stopped by in the late afternoon. Great place to hang during evening "rush hour".

Good margaritas, try the ropa vieja. Cute place

I've lived 5 blocks or less from this restaurant for 9 years

By ATLconsultant |

And have given this place 4 or 5 shots. Sometimes i end up with a dish which is fair or slightly good, but never a great or excellent dish. And yes, I have been to Mexico many times and have eaten traditional Mexican food. And yes, this food is more akin to traditional mexican food, but it just isn't that great. Fun place to hang out and have margaritas though!

Best Tex Mex outside of Texas

By Randall |

The service was friendly and consistent. The salsa was very good with chips. We both had enchiladas which were very tasty. The chef makes their own enchilada sauce which was excellent. Definitely will be back.

Good solid choice

By Gertie73 |

We had a nice meal of fajitas and a couple of beers. Great atmosphere for a Fri night, good food and v pleasant staff. I would definitely recommend this if you fancy Mexican food in the area

Great happy hour margaritas and quesadilla

By Emma H |

Staff here is awesome, and food menu is great. Some nice low-cal items on the cocktail menu, too. Valet parking - although there are so many drunk drivers in the area, you may want to leave the car at home.

Better than Mexico

By 24florinmiron |

After returning from Mexico we decided to eat at Zocalo. Great food, their chile relleno and deserts were delicious.

Nice little place with a full patio

By Zack B |

Zocalo's staff is very friendly, fun, and welcoming. They have very good margaritas, especially the frozen kind. The food is average Mexican, but not that bad. The best part is the atmosphere, staff, and drinks. This would be a perfect place to start before a big dinner or on a Friday evening!! Try the tequila flight (if you dare).

Went here for brunch - definitely over rated

The best faux Mexican I've had

By mtndi |

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place while taking a walk from our hotel. It was a blissful evening of about 70 and they had outdoor seating which was more than welcomed after sitting inside in a conference all day. The margaritas were tasty but my hureche meal made of masa flour, mushrooms and blank bean dip was mouth watering. Since I am not supposed to eat wheat it was a much welcomed different meal that does not include corn torts or rice. Ended up eating there twice in our few days of staying in town!

More like 3 1/2 Stars

By Sunny D |

My husband ate here after walking the neighborhood and thought this would be a good place to check out. The food was good and we did enjoy the chicken fajitas. They don't give you much to work with but the chicken was fresh. They lost a couple of points due to the staff dumping water from a nearby table on us with no apology. What saved them from us walking out was the fact that our server was standing there and was equally offended. She said something but they ignored her. In the middle of taking our order, she left for a good five minutes. Not sure why she did this but it was strange. Mojito was weak, tasted like a lot of mint. The queso dip was delicious, though! All in all, not a bad meal and most likely would eat there again.

authentic Mexican food

good food and interesting midtown location - fantastic patio for dining.

Great selection & good service

By Owen S |

We were exploring the area on the way back from Piedmont park and worked up an appetite, we got a table with ease and the selection on food was really good. The staff were attentive but not overbearing and allowed us to have a few cocktails and checked in with us regularly.

Great Mexican

By Bridget N |

Great margaritas and bottomless guacamole. Our food was great and service was fast. Also enjoyed the open air setting.

Best Mexican restaurant/Mexican food I have had in a long time

By y-gro-up |

Best Mexican restaurant/Mexican food I have had in a long time Had a great dinner here, fun vibe. Open air seating. Great drinks, great authentic Mexican and some Cuban food.

Pretty good

By ATLTravelDiva |

Haven't been in a while. Drinks were good. We all orde re d various fajitas and although they were pretty good, it was as if they were tapas. I had to send my rice back being it was old and hard mixed in with fresh rice. I don't eat avocado and advised the server and he still brought my food with guacamole. So I had to get another server to speak with him. The restaurant could stand for a good cleaning and upgrades. Although its more of an outdoor type of eatery. Nothing special about food or restaurant. My friends chose to meet here.

Find another mexican restaurant...

By AlwaysOnTheG0 |

I have been wanting to try Zocalo for years. We finally made it into town and tried it out. What a disappointment. The open air seating was fun but that's all they had to offer. The service was awful, uptight, and no fun. I never did see a smile on any employee. The food was just plain and boring. Plus is was very expensive for what was offered. I spend a lot of time in Mexico and this place is a joke. Go find a no name Mexican restaurant on Buford Hwy, save some money, and have a great meal. I did notice that all the awards on the walls at Zocalo were from the late 90's, maybe it was good at one time??

awesome, authentic food...

By Elizabeth M |

awesome, authentic food. a bit pricey, especially for the guacamole!

Chile Rellenos!

By Jack J |

In Atlanta for the weekend and found that Zocalo was having Chile Relleno festival during August. Of course we had to stop for dinner. I had a seafood version. Very healthy - not breaded and fried in oil. I requested that the rice be held off the plate. Visually nice, flavor was pretty good. Nice place.

Lunch after Braves Parade

By jenned17 |

We happened upon Zocalo after the Braves World Series parade (Go Braves!) and the staff was busting it to take care of the crowd. The chicken enchiladas were tasty and I tried my sister’s plantains and they were outstanding. Good vibe and accommodating staff in the face of a crowd.

Fun authentic mexican food

By Kathy3163 |

Night before July 4th was rainy, so outdoor seating was nice and cool albeit a bit packed. Guacamole made at the table was delicious and cream of poblano soup excellent and perfect for a rainy night. Now a traditional for pre-race meal the before Peachtree Road Race!

EZPZ choice

By afriendinSC |

Liked not going to a chain restaurant. This had character, good prices and good food. Had chicken fajitas.

Tasty

By Patricia R |

Our first night in town, we ordered our food to go. That way we were able to eat and relax. The food was very good. We had nachos, a salad, and burrito. Very Good

Excellent Tex Mex

By ddmullis |

If you are looking for a great reasonable priced Tex Mex spot you have found it. On a recent Sunday we went for brunch and the Tacos and Chicken Soup was outstanding. Both had a ton of flavor. The service was very good and they offer outdoor seating Prices are very reasonable

Great atmosphere

By beebee2006 |

I was visiting from out of town and stopped in on my way back to my hotel as the place was packed with Sunday fun day crowd. Great atmosphere, food and drinks. I had the soft tacos with bacon/shrimp. to die for. We also had two margaritas, which seemed to be stronger than most places i've been to. Will definitely be my top spot for Mexican when i return back to Atlanta.

Mango Margueritas

By Jeffrey M |

This is a great place to people watch as most people going to Peidmont Park will pass this way. We call the mango margueritas liquid crack. They are potent and you can't have just one.

Tasty Mexican Fare

By StockholmKindaGuy |

The atmosphere here is festive and loud. Not the easiest place to have a conversation and at peak times feels quite cramped. Zocalo's paired down menu features all the standard Mexican fare. If like like Mexican food, you shouldn't have a problem finding something you like. I had the Chicken Quesadillas, which were very good. I like how light the tortilla. It took a while for the food to come out and the restaurant seemed short of servers. As far as drinks go, the beer selection was limited. My friends enjoyed their margaritas they had. Probably a better way to go. Service wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but friendly. Good food, but a bit too loud.

Best Mexican in Atlanta

By Michael H |

We are always on the lookout for great Mexican food and this place is it. All the food was on point. We had the steak and fish tacos. Both were very good. The chips are served warm, which is rarely done other places but makes a difference. The guacamole is prepared table side and they have a $5 bottomless for their special. The serve was good and helped us with a bill issue. It is a small restaurant right downtown so getting there might be the only issue. We will definitely be back.

Holey Moley! Don’t Miss It!

By Jeff K |

One of the best Mexican restaurants we have visited EVER! From the free valet (tip appreciated) to the friendly host when we walked in to the great service and even better meal. My wife was super excited to find good mole’ sauce. I had the Molcajete Carmelita. Highly recommended. Watch out for the frozen margaritas. Quite a “ punch”!

Great time!

By Brenda S |

Had a bite to eat before going to the Dogwood festival. Chicken quesadilla was delicious. Margarita was on special and delicious. Came back for dinner and cocktails. Wonderful bartenders and bar patrons. Had a great time! Hi to Brian!

Great Margarita!

By mmprn1 |

Place doesn't look like much, but the food was pretty good. Margaritas were great and the service was really good. They were very busy after 8 on a Friday night. Salsa was nice and spicy. Very affordable!

Not my favorite Mexican

By ATLtoEUR767 |

A lot of people tend to go to Zocalo (Zokes as the locals call it) for the atmosphere and the great central Midtown Atlanta location. In the spring/summer time you will generally find people go on the weekends to drink on the patio/parking lot…but they never eat there. The general opinion among Atlantians is the food is not great at all.

Tacos al pastor and a margarita - reasonably priced casual dinner

By BoCoMoTiger |

It is loud and extremely casual, however, the service was reasonable (and appropriately paced for a place without walls and old picnic furniture) and the prices were even better. The chips were good, and the salsa was great. Only negative was the bottled beer (Negro Modelo) was rather warm and the draft beers weren't worth ordering.

Nice eats and strong drinks

By Kory D |

Great bar service. The bartender was quick and food was amazing. My friend was a little difficult with drink satisfaction and the bartender remade drinks with no problem. Loved his customer service and friendly responses. This was on a Monday evening !

The mole and mojitos are top notch!

By JoAD11030114 |

We went for the indoor/outdoor seating and ended up being very pleased with the food. The quesadilla was so yummy and packed with cheese as chicken and the red mole was delicious! Service was average. On a beautiful day in Atlanta you won't find a better deck or enjoy their open air seating.

Great Mexican Food.

By Jetskii |

The place is situated close by the metro and serves really good mexican food. I went with a Mexican friend and even for him the food was good. The service takes some time, but at the same time the tortillas are fresh and delicious. The tacos are great.

Great flavors!

By Tammy C |

The service was good. The chips and salsa were good. Drinks were good. We had the marinated shredded pork dish and the shrimp enchiladas. Very well done. The only complaint we had was the queso. While the flavor was good, the consistency was like water. It was very hard to eat because it literally ran off the chips. We have never had such thin, runny cheese. That was a great disappointment. Otherwise, I would recommend the restaurant. We will return but just won’t order the queso.

Best Sangria I EVER Had

By valbres |

Very nice Mexican neighborhood restaurant on 14th Street in Midtown; recently they started selling their delicious freshly made salsa at farmer's markets around Atlanta.

Great Mexican in Midtown

By MarkButt |

A wide variety of choice with great presentation, Zocalo is a great spot for a meal or just grabbing drinks with friends. There is valet parking and a nice outdoor patio to enjoy on warmer days.

Worst Restaurant Over!!

By Victor N |

Worst customer service ever. My friends and I went in there and there was no sign no where that says wait for the hostess so we walked in. After waiting 30 minutes they realized that we came in and they didn't even bother to serve us. One of the waitress said that she was going to get the hostess which never made it to the table. WOULD NEVER COME BACK AND I HOPE THEY CLOSE THAT SO CALLED RESTAURANT.

Good Food and Drinks but not the best service.

By AJvaldes |

The food is pretty good and the drinks are Excellent but the service was not so good. The waiter basically took our orders, brought our food, and was never to be seen again until he brought us the checks and told us that the kitchen was closed and there was no more desserts.

BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN ATLANTA!

By Will K |

This is easily the best mexican food in Atlanta! Me and my two friends were in Atlanta last Saturday for a day. When we arrived in Atlanta we were hungry. We were walking around Midtown and found this gem on 10th street. We decided to try it, and we were not disappointed. First and foremost the service was 10 out of 10 stars. We were greeted promptly, and the server was super nice. He brought out fresh homemade chips and salsa, and it was the best chips and salsa I have ever had. I ordered the Nachos, and my two friends ordered the Veggie Tacos and Steak Quesadillas. We each tasted each other's food, and it was all incredible. We will definitely be coming to this restaurant again!!

People watching

By Pete A |

Great veranda to sit out in warm weather and watch the folks of Midtown Atlanta walk by. Gets raucous on Sunday afternoons, which is a good or bad thing depending on what you're looking for. Service is spotty but the frozen drinks are incredibly strong. Good with a group if you don't mind waiting patiently for a server to turn up.

Best Mexican in Atlanta

By VBATL |

Great food and so much fun! Really good for a big party and dinner with children. Authentic Mexican food with Guacamole made at the table and amazing margaritas.

Nice place with a fairly large tequila/margarita and mescal menu

By Tyson R |

Needed a place for a 21st birthday early dinner hour celebration for a small group. This was convenient to downtown and the post-dinner evening at The Fox Theatre. Pleasant and helpful staff. Good food--not large but fine portions in my opinion. Reasonably priced. The facilities were the only drawback. We weren't looking for high end, but this aspect could have been better.

Noisy

By Travel2Health |

I came back here, because I had a really good memory from the last time I ate here. I remembered feeling like I was still in Mexico. After tonight's visit, I will never come back. As I was waiting in the small space in front of the restaurant, a man in filthy clothes walked up and took a seat on the bench. He looked like he was strung out on something and probably have not had a bath in years. I lost my appetite after witnessing this guy plunking down on the waiting bench. To make matters worst, the dining area was the most unpleasant place to sit down and enjoy even a bottle of bear, never-mind dinner. It was so noisy! I was very disappointed with the whole evening.

Always excellent

By VBATL |

I have been eating at Zocalo on a regular basis for more than 15 years. The food is excellent (as are the margaritas) and service is outstanding. Zocalo is fun and always delicious. Certainly the best Mexican in town.

Good Food, Decent Service, Small Portions, Pricey

By ddmullis |

Recently met friends for a late lunch ad Zocalo's. The atmosphere was hopping with a younger energetic crowd of mostly guys, The menu was decent, the drinks were good and the food has a decent taste. I did find the portions to be small compared to other similar places in the local area. Overall the price seemed to be more than you would expect when eating mexican dishes as well.

Great service

By JasonmFinch |

I had a very good meal with a couple beers. Nice setting in the heart of Atlanta. The service was excellent!

Terrible food

By Valeria. |

I have tried this zocalo 2 times and the food is just horrible. It's also expensive. I recommend trying different Mexican restaurants in the area. It truly is a shame! But! They have great margaritas and they are right by Piedmont park. So maybe just go for drinks. Don't try the food! You'll be disappointed.

An excellent dining experience

By Ivan |

I would like to commend the Sunday September 4 dinner staff, the place was packed to the brim yet they managed to provide fast and friendly service with a smile, very impressive . The food was amazing (if somewhat expensive), the tacos are filled with flavor and leave you wanting more. I would definitely return.

Great guacamole - it is...

By jgolds23 |

Great guacamole - it is made table side

Hey, there's Zocalo, let's try it!

By Starvin' |

In brief without the rapturous food review discourse. o Atmosphere - Funky, fun, we liked it. o Service - Should have been much better as there was only two other parties besides ours. o FOOD - Very tasty, well prepared, not that generous portions but most of all, insanely expensive (for Mexican food)! Some might call it 'Rip Off.' o Return trip- Ummm, a big maybe.

Casual, fun, and delicious.

By Vickie L |

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Walked in with no reservation, were cheerfully seated, and enjoyed their spicy margaritas and chicken mole. Service was excellent; food was delicious; and the atmosphere was a friendly festive vibe. Nothing fussy. Highly recommend.

Haven’t been to Zocolo in years!

By actor4omaha |

Haven’t been to Zocolo in years and decided to stop today for lunch. It was great. Service was quick and friendly. The food was delish! Had the wings and chicken fajitas with lettuce wraps. Flavorful and perfect portions. Won’t wait so long to come back next time.

Great place

By Kevin M |

Went during happy hour and enjoyed $4 margaritas and dinner specials. I had the appetizer sampler and felt the food was authentic and of great value. Atmosphere of outdoor cantina. Would go back again

Nice lunch

By MKB1701 |

We stopped here for lunch after an afternoon at the Botanical Garden and had a pleasant experience. Kid's meal was good, and I enjoyed my steak tacos very much. Prices were fair and the service was decent; do sit inside as it gets hot in the sun in the afternoon. Would stop back again.

Surprisingly good food

By NGreenla |

Stopped in just before closing, around 10:30pm on a Friday night. The condition of the restrooms was appalling, so much so that we considered leaving without ordering food.... but it was late and everywhere else was already closed. So we stayed. And I am glad we did. Our dinners were excellent!. The food was beautifully presented. I had cheese enchiladas, served with an unusually delicate Mexican rice and an exceptionally good salsa verde sauce. Our waitress was attentive. The margaritas were tasty. I'm going to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, perhaps the condition of the bathrooms simply reflected the late hour. I would definitely eat here again (after I check out the bathroom situation...:>)

Loved this rustic restaurant

By Justonemoreholiday |

We are staying closeby and this was recommended to us. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the staff were excellent. The drinks are mainly cocktails or beer and there is just one bottle of red and one white on the menu. However the white was very good and reasonable. Our chicken fajitas were exceptional.

Best Mexican restaurant in Atlanta and amazing bar in midtown

By VBATL |

Wonderful Mexican restaurant West delicious food, and great people. By far the best margaritas in Atlanta! Very authentic food and very reasonably priced. Entirely renovated six months ago. We love it and keep coming back. You should try it!

No longer recommend Zocalo

By Mike_ATL100 |

Wow. This kitchen has gone downhill. Don't know what happened but the food is not good and now just way overpriced. I've noticed that they seem to rely more on bar business than trying to keep the food authentic. For years, our favorite Mexican restaurant in Atlanta. Now, we will never return unless publicized improvements are made.

Why not have good service?

By PurpleLZ |

Drinks, chips, salsa & guacamole were good. The food was not the best, but it was edible. The location is perfect. Why not have good service? I've been to Zocalo twice. The first time, celebrating a friend's birthday, the manager kept nagging our server to hurry up and ask us for our order, hurry up and bring us the check... and the place was not even half full, nor was it about to close. The second time, the manager did not have to harass the waiter because he pushed us to order all by himself, and brought us the check at the same time as he collected the last plate from the table. He seemed annoyed when I asked for a little more water, and throughout dinner treated us with disdain. Again, the place was not full nor was it about to close. Sadly the good drinks, chips, salsa & guacamole did not outweigh the mediocre food and horrendous service. Fortunately, there are many good Mexican restaurants in Atlanta. I guess we will not be dinning there again.

Good food

By 63Kathyd |

Food was excellent, margaritas delicious. Waiter a little too attentive. Guacamole made at table was fantastic. Only complaint is the table had rough edges and 2 of us ended up with cuts on our elbows.

Best Tres Leches in Atlanta

By Michelle U |

The tacos are supreme but the dessert is amazing. Every bite of the Tres Leches melts in your mouth.

Great Food, Slow Service

By BugattiBoi88 |

Zocalo Mexican Kitchen & Cantina conveniently located in midtown Atlanta you will find this upbeat Mexican restaurant. My friends and I recently visited on a spur of the moment a couple of weekends ago. Surprisingly there was no wait on a weekend night for a party of 5! Talk about a WIN! After we were seated this is were things began to go south. Our waiter came and greeted us briefly took our drink orders then came back and asked us were we ready to order. With forgetting the drinks we were already frustrated and then to add insult to early injury he took another 15 minutes just to get the water. Yikes.. after using my yelp check in offer and eating the complementary chips and salsa, my friends and I were ready for our food orders. Everybody enjoyed the food ordered it just took forever to get!

Great food, reasonably priced!

By justincarpenter09 |

This was my partner and I's first trip to Atlanta. We wanted to check out some nightlife, but decided to grab a bite to eat first. Chips and salsa were great. We ordered the Queso Dip and that was excellent as well! Very much worth the price, you get a ton! For our meal, we split a pulled chicken burrito, which was huge! Plenty of food for 2 people unless you have a huge appetite. Staff wasn't as attentive as we had hoped, but this restaurant still got 5 stars from us!

Tacoss

By Stephanie D |

Came on a sunday night for table for free. For checking-in on yelp we received a free table side of guac! Which was sooo good! The chips were warm which always adds to the experience. The waitress was friendly and prompt with our orders. Food came out rather quick and hot. The spot had a homie feel to it fare pricing and food did the job for a late night dinner. We had all ordered margaritas made to order. Tasted great but could have been stronger (my preference). Been to a few other establishments of Ricardo chain and haven't been disappointed. Enjoyed this one for a late night dinner

crooked service

By _polly_f_t_ |

I went here last night with a birthday party, we were 18 people and it was the birthday of two of our friends, they are twins. Our waiter (Patrick) opened up with the offer to charge us for 18 shots of tequila and that they would then give us 18 more for free. We agreed, and he came back and poured shots, then had a shot with us and left two full bottles of tequila on the table. We then got our drinks and he topped our drinks up with tequila from the bottle also, so we thought that was all part of the deal. Most of us ordered food and it took A LONG TIME for the food to arrive. By then everyone was very tipsy due to tequila and cocktails. The food was all good and delicious but eating for drinking sustenance wasn't really working anymore. When we requested the bill we had to figure out how to split it ourselves and then got separate checks. I had ice cream (3.95$) and split a cocktail pitcher with a friend (26$, 13$ each). My bill turned out to be 38$. So he charged for 7 (!!!) shots instead of 1. I had 2 tequila shots and my drink had been topped up with some but this was severe overcharging since he did that to every one of our group. I was too drunk to refuse to pay and complain last night (as tequila does that to you) so that was a smart and scumbag move on his part. Just to make it clear again, that was a total of around 380$ that our group paid for tequila after thinking we would be paying 54$ (3$ per shot). Would not recommend.

A fine lunch and great guacamole

By MarComTraveler |

Two of us had a late lunch today at Zocalo. After passing the restaurant for a couple years and being curious we decided to stop in when seeing that they weren't crowded (we were actually headed to another restaurant in the neighborhood). The dining room is indoor/outdoor open-air decorated in a rustic Mexican theme that my dining companion compared to Key West. The lunch menu prices hovered in the $8-$10 range. My companion opted for the grilled chicken salad and I had chicken enchiladas. We also shared a bowl of homemade guacamole for two. The guacamole was made in the dining room and was outstanding. Super fresh (I watched the waiter peel the avocados), the really was a wonderful surprise. When out main food came out, it was pleasantly presented. The grilled chicken salad was colorful and included four slices of avocado and a very pleasing chile-lime-cilantro dressing. My enchiladas were covered in a very spicy tomatillo salsa and very tasty. We enjoyed our experience at Zocalo very much and plan to head back eventually to try their dinner menu.

Fun night with family

By boudta |

We enjoyed this restaurant a lot. The food was good and our server was attentive. We started with the table side guacamole it was very flavorful. We tried verde enchiladas, shrimp enchiladas a burrito and tacos, all were fresh and good. There are several flavors of margaritas. I liked the spicy orange. It wasn’t too sweet or too spicy. It was just right. I would recommend this restaurant for good tasting Mexican restaurant with fair pricing. There were parking spaces close by too.

great food

By NayasT |

Pretty good food great location as I lived in midtown you can also order them from Zifty which is how I tried it for the first time!

Good location, view, food

By Gabe T |

Great spot in midtown to sit outside on the patio on a nice day. Taco plates are reasonably priced and a good pick-- I had the Al Pastor.

Authentic Mexican in the Heart of Atlanta

By SeeTheWorld24 |

Zocalo is about as authentic Mexican as you're going to find near downtown Atlanta. It's a restaurant with a flare - an authentic atmosphere. The food is very different from what you would imagine - no burritos, tacos - this is more traditional authentic mexican - black bean patties, etc. Great salsas and the most extensive Tequila list you'll find in the Southern United States.

Excellent restaurant

By VBATL |

We have been going to Zocalo for 15 years and have never been disappointed. We love everything! The food and the service. Their Mole sauce is just the best. Not your classic TexMex, so you will be disappointed if you are looking for basic enchiladas and tacos. This is the real thing...

The food and the drinks...

By Ramie |

The food and the drinks are way overpriced. The service was terrible.

Fantastic!!

By Ashleigh B |

The wait was minimal, the staff was friendly and the food was fantastic! The skinny margaritas were really good too!

Love the Queso Dip

By travelingchik22 |

Came here after an eventful day at Piedmont park. Hostess greeted us and sat us very quickly!! Loved their queso dip!! Their tacos are really good and the chicken tortilla soup is packed with tons of flavor! Great varieties of drinks!

Really good frozen margaritas

By cj0ey25 |

Food is so-so, but their frozen margaritas is to die for. Environment is pretty nice too, you can sit outside with your pets and enjoy your meal.

Awesome nachos!

By raharmon |

My spouse and I went for the first time last month and have already been back an additional three times. It's a great place to stop for dinner if you are visiting Piedmont Park or the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. FYI, if you sign up for emails on their website you get free guac! I love the nachos and highly recommend them! My spouse recommends the carnitas. The restaurant is LGBTQ+ friendly and has cute decor. Busy nights (I think Friday and Saturday but I'm not positive) offer free valet parking.

Great Mexican Food, but time for An Update

By TBONEWILLY999 |

Scratch kitchen Mexican food that's reliably prepared. Super friendly staff. Very lively spot on the weekends. Not a good place for kids. Valet parking. Outdoor seating. Good table side Gaucamole. It's just time for them to spend some money on the place, the building is tired.

Good lunch

By CRLsrating |

We had a great lunch at Zocalo. There were not many others dining at the time. Menu was reasonably priced. The margaritas seemed to be pre-made.

Worth the stop - fresh mex

By Karlboy |

Really like this place. Excellent chips and homemade salsa. We both love their fish tacos ! Just the right amount of spice and sauce. We don't drink but from where we were sitting the margaritas must be good because it looked like most everyone had one. LOL This is a great area with several restaurants located together. We still miss the bookstore that use to be here as it was one of the main draws for us to come visit here when we are in town. This is just a fun place with good fun you'll enjoy.

excellent

By slartymiec |

great little find. The food is great and the cocktails were to.Friendly staff and very good quality mexican food

Good Mexican food

By hikingluvr |

We came over to this establishment as the restaurant we had intended to had an hour plus wait. We were able to be seated right away and never rushed to finish our meal as the previous reviewers commented. The tortilla chips were good and I would have eaten more but didn't feel at second basket was worth $1.50. I ate the Carnitas (Pork Taco) which were good, served on a corn tortilla. They were reasonably priced at $2.25 a piece. I also had a bowl of Poblano Pepper soup which was very good, probably a little bit over priced at $6 but I enjoyed it. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants Mexican food in the mid-town area.

Bad brunch experience

By Cristina G |

If you are ever planning on going for brunch to this restaurant please save yourself a trip, we got there and they had disney movies music playing on the background, as well the menu is pretty small especially when it comes to brunch and REALLY small portions. The worst part was when we payed our bill the waiter never brought us back our change, that's a big no no!! Definetly not going back!

Great Food and Drinks!

While in Atlanta, we visited Zocalo for dinner and drinks one time and then two additional times for their fantastic margaritas! Having had both on the rocks and frozen, we recommend the frozen. The bartenders were friendly and hospitable and the food was very reasonable with large portions. Check out the daily specials on the chalkboard in the back before ordering. My dinner and drinks with tip the first night were under $20!!

GaMex!

Not Tex Mex but Ga Mex. Not bad but average Mexican dishes retooled for Americans. Margaritas were tasty but not particularly powerful. Nice outdoor seating option on a nice day. Worth going if you're in the area but not a destination restaurant.

Good food, overpriced like most things in Atlanta

I ate here while on a business trip. I had just gotten into town, and it had been raining hard. It was within walking distance of my inn, and I had just driven 9 hours, so I figured "why not." I had the shrimp salad. It was pretty good, with some very tasty pico, but not worth $13. As always seems to happen when I am eating alone and trying to stay within nutritional and financial budget, the waiter seemed disappointed that I was not eating and drinking more to inflate his tip. Overall, it was OK, but I am sure there is better Mexican in mid-town.

Rushed and Unimportant!

We arrived about 930 p.m. and was rushed the entire time. Here's the skinny: The good - The Chicken tinga tacos were okay. The beans were soupy and the rice was bland. The bad - The fresh guacamole was bland and flavorless. It's most likely because the avocado was not ripe. The guy preparing it had a hard time mashing it. The ugly - We asked for a lemon and was informed that they had no lemons. We then asked for a lime and the wait staff brought it with HIS BARE HANDS! We asked for another and it was brought to us in A NAPKIN! The old lime was tasteless, just like the one in my Corona. We asked for a bbq chicken salad with no cheese. The waitress recommended a house salad with grilled chicken. She brought us the bbq chicken salad with cheese!! It had to be returned for three SLOPPY tacos in a to go box. The waitress when attending to us was rushed and more concerned with sweeping the floor - could that not wait until we were done with our meal! I was not impressed with this restaurant and the service and will NEVER return.

Delicious margaritas, average food and service

We went for a date night on a Saturday and the place was packed. We were fine with the 35 minute wait and ordered some frozen margaritas which were delicious to enjoy in the warm weather. We were seated within the time frame and our server came quick to Take our order. The waters we requested were never brought until we asked someone else 15 min later. The table side guacamole had potential but they forgot to add lime and salt. When we requested it, he brought us 2 lime slices from the bar. So basically we paid $10 for smushed avocado with some cilantro and tomato thrown in.. The rest of the food was good. Ordered a second round of drinks and we don’t recommend the flavored mojo to- too sweet and syrupy.

Great Food and Great People watching

My meals was outstanding. My drinks were on spot. And the view was even pretty amazing. A must check out in Midtown Atlanta.

Delicious corn tortillas...

Delicious corn tortillas and very reasonably priced for lunch. Didn't like being charged for a second basket of chips.

Used to be our favorite, but not now

Sad that a good place has deteriorated. Service tonight was terrible as waitress had friends at two tables and spent the night visiting. After 10 minutes I got up and asked for service--refills of drinks...took another 10 minutes. Food was cold. Margaritas are now made from bottled mix, no longer fresh as before. Being from Texas we were pleased to find Zocalo. Must have a new owner or manager. Was approached by one of the street people as we left to get our car in front. Three hookers were at the curb soliciting. We will not be back.

Look no More.

Looking for amazing Mexican food this is your place! The food is so flavorful. Best Baha (fish) tacos anf i have eaten a lot of tacos! They have great specials every day expecially on Friday when you can indulge in their bottomless guacamole! Amd yes they mix up the ingredients right at the table! Yum! Also I love Jamie she's an amazing waitress and full of life. Raise! Most of the staff is awesome though. Right in the heart of Midtown you can grab a drink or delicious flavorful food here and then go out and enjoy the Atlanta nightlife.

Food was bad, service was friendly

We went here for dinner and got one of the burritos that comes in a cheese and tomato based sauce. The sauce had a strange, metallic taste. I dismissed that as possibly being something I personally didn't like. But the filling, beef, was very, very dried out and tough. It was just bad. Chips were served before the meal. After tasting the fourth rancid chip I just said no more. We had gone to Zocalo in July and had rancid chips; the manager apologized and said it "never happens." Well, more than 6 months later it's still happening, which makes me really wonder. Margaritas were too sweet, both the Skinny 'rita and another house type margarita. The server and hostess were nice, but when I had a drink order in the server and the bartender stood and talked and talked and talked. Then the bartender made the drink (this was while we were eating and neither had anything to drink). I didn't expect immediate service, I just thought the gabfest three feet from our table was a little careless. We decided no more chances for this place. Sorry. We live only a couple of blocks away and could be spending a lot of money here.
