This BYOB is across the street from the Eastern State Penitentiary, open for lunch and dinner. The food is a very good value. The focus is on seafood and lamb, both choices very nice. Service is excellent. The parking lot, also across the street, is a plus as on-street parking is very limited in this neighborhood.

Did a tour of The Penitentiary nearby and hit this very convenient place one block away. Nice people, warm service, comfortable place, relatively small, really good food ( octopus appetizer!). And value for money. Great place!!!

We had both the sandwiches and the gyros platters. Everything was delicious. The staff was very friendly and recommended some additional places to eat and visit while we are in town. The side of French fries were not cut in traditional fries and were small but again, delicious.

Everything that comes out of the kitchen looks great. I only wish I had had tried Zorba's years ago. It is great food. We had no reservation and they still accommodated us. It is BYOB but even unprepared without a bottle(as we were), this is a very good experience.

Just happened to find Zorba's while walking around. The best lunch we've had in Philly. I had the Greek chicken salad, and my husband had the gyro lunch plate. Tasty, well prepared. The restaurant is small but pleasant. Would love to try it for dinner another time

Lamb shank is excellent, as well as their baklava. Really enjoy the family-like atmosphere, and their willingness to please. Prices are modest in comparison to the value you get.

Just went here with a group of 12 people for a birthday dinner. It was great! The food was excellent. I highly recommend the octopus appetizer and the cold plate for sharing. The price was great. It's a byob so be sure to bring your own wine. There is a state liquor store a few blocks away if you forget. We were seated at the back so it felt private for our party. I can't wait to go back again!

When you first walk in the restaurant seems a little disappointing as you face a soda refrigerator but when you get the past the entry the dining area is small and comfortable. It is a BYOB so come prepared, however, a liquor store is not far away. A friend and I had gone to the Art Museum and went there for lunch. We had the cold appetizer which was delicious. We each had a lunch special, split a sweet and had the Greek coffee. The food is fresh and it was a perfect lunch portion. We did not have a reservation, however, you might need one for dinner Parking can be difficult during the day or evening, however, there is a lot not far from the restaurant.

This is a great family run Greek restaurant- perfect for lunch. The Greek salad was wonderful and the mussels in red wine appetizer was also delicious.

Authentic home cooked Greek food. Great grilled fresh fish, squid, and octopus. Excellent lamb and many vegetarian options.

We went here for our anniversary and were not disappointed. It's BYOB which keeps the price down and their is a liquor/wine store a few blocks down the street. The cold appetizers were fantastic. For dinner I had the octopus and my husband had the meat sampler. Both were amazing! We also ordered dessert and coffee but had to bring most of our dessert home since we were so full from dinner. We will definitely be back!

The BBQ chicken salad with Greek salad is an amazing lunch. If you ask for the pita whole you can make your own sandwich. The roast lamb literally melts in your mouth. I've never been to Greece but Zorba's makes me want to go.

Zorba's has a friendly atmosphere and great food. I went for dinner and had the hummus ($5.50) for an appetizer and the Kalamari ($16) as the main dish... this was some of the best Kalamari I've had :) If you plan to go for dinner, leave early to allow yourself time to find parking.

Every time I am in town I eat here. They have the best of everything. I always get the grilled octopus, hummus, feta spread and a greek village salad. Don't even think about leaving this place without having a greek frappe! It is a small restaurant with a family feel. And the family that runs it is super friendly. I can't say enough how much I love this place!

I have been here several times over the years.Very friendly service and solid, high quality food. Will go back soon i hope.

We love zorba's! It has more of an authentic Greek food feel. It is like eating at your Greek aunt's house instead of eating Greekish food.

We shared tsatziki and a Greek salad, then each had a grilled salmon sandwich. All were excellent and authentic. The service was good also. I would look forward to returning and recommend Zorba"s.

it’s ok but not great the food was good veggie vey over cooked and it was just warm not hot when it came to the table . Dessert was the best .

Just came back from Zorba’s ... the food was mediocre, the service begrudging, and the delivery staff (who sat outside and right across from us) was noisy and smoked incessantly. I love to support local restaurants. But I won’t be coming back here.

While you might expect a Greek restaurant to have a lengthy menu, this one is rather short. Left off the menu are many of the standard Greek dishes but those that remain are skillfully prepared. The roast leg of lamb was sumptuous and tender. Be advised that entrée portions are not large, even though many dishes are served with both rice and potatoes. Therefore, I recommend an appetizer since they were just as enjoyable. A good dining choice at a modest price.

Stopped in Philadelphia to see the penitentiary, needed to grab lunch. Stopped in Zorba and was delighted. Authentic Greek food, reasonable price, friendly staff, and Greek music to boot.

My wife and I went here yesterday for an early dinner after visiting the Philly Museum of Art and the Rodin Museum. What a wonderful experience! Despite the small and unassuming appearance from the street, this is serious Greek food. We love appetizers so we indulged in their cold combination appy plate, Greek salad, Saganaki, and grilled octopus. Literally the best and most tend octopus I've ever had. All of the food was top notch and the service was very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go again!

This is a family-run neighborhood restaurant near the Art Museum. I live in the neighborhood and have eaten here a number of times. It is absolutely not in the top 5 percent of restaurants in Philly, as the tripadvisor poll suggests. It is an average to good Greek restaurant. The cooking is authentic, but it is not a cutting-edge restaurant by any means. It also is not expensive. If you live in Philly, it's a relatively inexpensive place to get decent food. The staff works hard and they are friendly. But, if you are visiting Philly on vacation, there are so many good and great restaurants that you should visit that are the same expense and far better. If you want the best Greek good in Philly, I suggest Kanella South, which is getting great reviews lately from critics. Dimitri's is good too and a Greek mainstay.

We walked by this spot around 10 times for the last couple days cause we stayed in our friends house , and couldn’t not notice Zobra . It was packed at any time of day . So it took our attention and we decided to have a lunch here . I don’t know how it is for dinner but every aspect of lunch I really liked . Begin with great friendly service and finish with the most important thing : food . We were sitting outside and I love anything with outside sitting, somehow it inspires me . I had beef gyro platter which was amazing , exactly what I needed for lunch . And not less important thing is price . It not price at all . This type of restaurant should fit to anyone. Definitely would recommend it.

we had the chicken souvlaki and the gyro for dinner - excellent food. Service was also excellent. We had a great dining experience.

After visiting eastern state penitentiary, we were just looking for place to eat. It was cold outside so decided to stop at the first restaurant we saw and glad we did. Inside is pretty small and dark, but it was packed. we had a grill octopus salad (everybody was ordering), and chicken salad. It's small size, but amazing. So simple, but tasty. Their tzatziki sauce was really good also. Want to go back again for sure.

We saw this restaurant while we were on the Tour of Philadelphia. When we went past this Greek tavern on the bus, it was packed. They had a sidewalk cafe outside and the regular places inside. Once the tour ended, I put the restaurant in Google Maps and headed there. Parking was right across the street and very easy. We LOVED it!!! We both had the Gyro and it was delicious and not too much for lunch. My husband had the Greek Coffee and loved that too. Recommend for sure!!!

We live about 45 minutes away from this restaurant and have made a habit of coming 5-6 times a year for an evening out in Philadelphia. The service is consistently good, and the food is extremely flavorful and priced very reasonably. I haven't ever had a bad dish...or one that wasn't prepared expertly. They don't charge a corking fee (it's a BYO). If you are going, call ahead for reservations, because the restaurant is small and seating is limited. My favs include the garlic potato and spicy feta dips as well as their lamb and pork dishes. Oh, and don't forget the Baklava and Greek coffee!

We had heard of Zorba's and had heard good things, and we were not disappointed. We had been at the Eastern State Penitentiary down the street and just wanted something quick. Each of us ordered a gyro, and we all loved our sandwiches. We will be back.

This Greek restaurant is all that, great littler warm spot for couples or friends and family will give you a good feel and amazing delicious food. Ive been there few times and it never disappoints. Lamb is a must and so is the fish. Yum!

Zorba's is a charming Greek taverna near the Eastern penitentiary. We ordered the Zeus which lets you try an array of hot and cold appetizers. The octopus and Calamari was excellent. The Kopanisti which was a spicy feta dip was a big hit. The service was good. The restaurant does not sell alcohol but you can bring your own bottle. They pack the tables in but we were comfortable. There is outside seating. Not great for vegans but fine for vegetarians. Impressively large and tasty Baklava

Across the street from the Eastern Philadelphia State Penitentiary we spied a Greek eatery, Zorbas thinking we will just "grab lunch". The atmosphere was authentic; the food was delicious; the choices included some necessary standards along with some real gems. The food was so good we ordered dinner "to go"!

Have been there many times.the staff is always friendly and helpful . Food is really good, traditional flavors and homemade. Don't forget tontry the deserts and if you wanna drink wine or beer u have to bring your own cause the place does not serve alcohool but feel free to bring your own

It's a shame to say they serve authentic greek food. This was the worst meal we had. The meat on the skewer was dry as sandpaper and the lamb was boiled, not baked.

Food is inexpensive, yet delicious. Super flavorful and fresh dishes from start to finish. Best part - the dessert! Peach sorbet & honey cake were to die for!

Outstanding find! Thanks guys for the great suggestion of roast lamb in Pita. That and the Taramasolata made my trip! Seemed like good guys as well. Hope they continue to rock!

Every time we visit this pleasant small restaurant in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia we thoroughly enjoy the tender roasted lamb as well as the traditional Greek appetizers. The service is always friendly as well.

I wish I could give the waiter and the busboy a separate review, because they were great. Very courteous and professional. Totally worth the inflated tip I left them. However, the food was pretty bad. Over seasoned and overcooked, it tasted like heavy-handed jerky - very tough, almost leathery. We had a large party with different orders so I had a chance to try 5 different kinds of meat dishes that included beef, lamb, 2 types of chicken and meatballs. - all suffered from the same problem - over the top in salt and spices and very hard. The veggie side orders were OK, shrimp were better in the seasoning department, but also overcooked. The bread was nice in the beginning of the meal, but I felt it was a typical Italian bread, nothing "authentically Greek" about it. I was parched for hours after the meal even though I drank perhaps a gallon of water, and I'm still having residual heartburn the day after. I truly hope that the chef wakes up and steps up to the task. Otherwise, there are much better Greek restaurants around.

I like this restaurant...been there a few times, once for my birthday party and a few other times with family or friends. I love their food and I think the prices are very reasonable.

We've been going to Zorba's for many years and it has always been great. Generous portions of delicious food, nice atmosphere and friendly efficient service. But now it has gotten even better because they have a liquor license and have a nice selection of authentic Greek wines and beers and of course ouzo! The lamb dishes are delicious as are the Greek appetizers and salads. Also delicious rice pudding !

Delicious stop before touring Eastern State Penitentiary. Nice ambiance and service. VERY tasty dishes at a reasonable cost. Save room for dessert -- the baklava was amazing. Hope to return next time I'm in Philadelphia.

Ok - a confession! We have loved Zorbas for years and it has a very special place in our hearts for lots of reasons. Great memories that my daughter recalls from her youth and now was able to bring her son here to experience as well. She always orders the same - actually, we all always do that, but I assure you that no matter what you order - you’ll love it! However; here are some items we recommend: Horiatiki Salad, Taramosalata, Kopanisti, Hummus, Skordalia, Charcoal Sampler, & Shrimp Poseidon! Bring along some wine, sit back - maybe outdoors - and enjoy a great dining experience!

Food quality is outstanding, real homemade with quality ingredients dishes. The atmosphere is extremely welcoming and homie, the choice of plates and tablecloths makes you feel in a friend’s kitchen. People are kind, smiling and friendly. Perfect lunch in a sunny cold Philly day. Thanks!

We like Greek food very much and Niko at Zorba's is good at cooking it. Horiatiki salad, calamari, octopus, and other hot and cold appetizers taste the way they should. Sometimes that is all we eat. Main entrees are savory and the lamb chops will have you licking your fingers. You do pick up a lamb chop with your fingers don't you? It's the correct (Greek) way to eat them. Also have to try Niko's homemade baklava. Try his gyro sandwich and other platters for lunch. Zorba's is our favorite restaurant in Philly. Thank you Niko, Stavro, Gianni and Maria for a pleasant dining experience.

We spent the day in the Museum of Art area and knew of Zorba's from our review on TA. We showed up at 5 after 4 and were told that while lunch normally is over at 4, they hadn't broken anything down and would be happy to seat us for lunch. We both ordered gyros sandwiches and were very pleased with the flavors and consistency. They add 3-4 french fries to the gyros to soak up any excess liquid. I never tasted the fries, but there was no liquid dripping out the bottom like usually happens! I would definitely come back here!

The food is really good. The fried calamari with lemon is strongly recommended. I always order it when there. The souvlaki is good too. It's very close to authentic Greek food

I don't know why it took my so long to try this place since it's within walking distance from where I live. I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious food. So great to have real, authentic Greek food right in the neighborhood. The only thing that topped the food was the service. The waitstaff are extremely nice and very patient with people who are new to the Greek experience. Definitely will be a repeat customer.

We went there for lunch, everybody ordered something different and everything was delicious. I highly recommend this place, the staff was very attentive and the food was fresh. It is a bit small inside but not uncomfortable. They had typical music playing, one of us said it was exactly like the restaurants he went to in Greece. We even ordered dessert and greek coffee and really enjoyed it. Do visit it if you are nearby the penitentiary or the Museum of Art.

cozy atmosphere. great service. Loved outdoor dining. The GRILLED FOOD IS DELICIOUS. The dining experience was lovely.

Zorba's is a fairly small restaurant in the busy Fairmount area, with a somewhat limited menu. Our food was mostly good - though the Greek salad was curiously lacking in the olives promised on the menu, and some of the meat in the grilled meat sampler was overcooked to the point of dryness. The sides were disappointing - bland rice, tasteless boiled potatoes, and a mix of vegetable so overcooked as to be nearly mush. Note that the restaurant is BYOB, if having alcohol with your meal is important to you. The service was okay, though somewhat diffident. Very convenient to the art museum, but next time we'll try elsewhere.

Our last review of Zorba's was in October 2015. Things have changed over the last 9 years....tablecloths, a bar (which our server said had been there about 7 months), Pepsi fridge instead of Coke fridge...Mussels appetizer was just ok... The feta taste didn't come through. However, the gyro sandwiches with lightly toasted pita bread were fresh and delicious at a very reasonable $11.00. Friendly service. We won't wait another 9 years for our next visit! Easy walking distance from the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Found this local tavern by accident after visiting the Rocky Steps & statue and feeling a little peckish. I did a quick "near me now" search in trip advisor and hey presto this place was really close snd had awesome reviews, I can see why... authentic Greek fare at a great price with good service... Highly recommended.

My boyfriend and I had a great experience here. Our server was very good. The food was amazing, except neither of us liked our cake desserts.

After a lengthy visit of the interesting Eastern State Penitentiary nearby, do yourself a favor and stop there to take a trip to Greece. The salads were so refreshing (and it was as hot day). You won’t regret it.

Had a fantastic lunch here at a great price! The salad/gyro combo was the perfect sized portion and was served quickly. Food was excellent and service good. I would definitely return!

I love Zorbas. The service is great and the food is always top notch I enjoy taking from there or ordering out from there. I especially like the fried cheese that they serve--they light it on fire right at your table! Wonderful!! Make sure you have some and don't miss the grilled octopus. Yummy!

We went to Zorba's for a late lunch after noticing it while walking by. We were the only people there at about 2:30. The restaurant is cozy and looks to have about 25 seats. It would be a great date night restaurant. We started off with the cold appetizer plate. The warm pita with the spicy feta dip and garlic-potato puree were some of the best I've ever tasted. We liked it so much that we got extra to take home! We also got a charcoaled chicken pita sandwich. We couldn't stop talking about how delicious it was. The lunch prices were very reasonable - about $15 for 2 of us. I have been recommending Zorba's to anyone who will listen. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

My wife had lived in Philadelphia for years and didn't know of this restaurant. On the recommendation of friends we visited Zorba's for dinner. We had caring, understanding service and outstanding food. I had a lamb shank that was served with a lemon sauce. Delicious! My wife had charred octopus, also outstanding. Large servings at an were a true value. I can't recommend this too strongly. Historical family owned restaurant is worth your patronage.

all really tasty. reseanable price too. these people love to cook. portions good. I just a had a gyro, others had salads there was one vegetarian with us. all fresh, not greasy, not over salted, quality ingredients, all restaurant made. obviosuly these people take pride in what they do. service was perfect, nothing to complain here.

These guys have the best calamari we've ever eaten, and we've had it all over Europe and North America. Also, the tzatziki was absolutely the best we've ever had. We had wine, beer, calamari, and tzatziki with pita at an outside table on the sidewalk across the street from our tour of Eastern State Penitentiary and it was beyond enjoyable!

We sorta stumbled into this restaurant thinking it was only enough room for 10 people but to our surprise it's a cute, quaint small restaurant that seats about 30 guest and the meals are portioned out very well with well seasoned and tasty greek food. The staff was very nice and helpful along with the chef that sees everyone coming and going and taking his time to speak --- I thought that was a great touch to their restaurant. There's also seating outside when the weather permits. It's across from the Historical Penitenary which allows for tours and Halloween fright night - so there's much to do in the neighborhood but don't forget to stop and get your own bottle of Wine or whatever you're drinking. It's a great place for a couples dining.

All the food seemed to be very good. We had the Sampler for two, a lovely platter with two lamb chops, two chicken & two pork souvlaki sticks, chicken breast all perfectly charbroiled. These were placed on a plate of tasty rice and potatoes, greek style. It was one of the best Greek meals I've ever had.

We stopped by for a few appetizers after walking around Eastern State Penitentiary. We got a seat outside immediately and our server was fantasic. We ordered the Melitzanosalata (Eggplant Dip) & Kalamari and both were great. I always get nervous ordering Kalamari since overcooked Kalamari is awful, but this was perfect. My wife liked the Melitzanosalata so much that she was inspired to make some of her own!

I love Greek. Lamb has such a wonderful flavor. Tucked away surrounded by American and N European style restaruants is this treasure. From their Greek salad, to gyros to the full Greek style entrees, it is GREEK to ME and that is a good, very good thing. Easy location near Museum Row, this is the place to get something a touch different when you have finished looking at art

Today was our second visit to Zorba, and it was a fun experience like the first time. Tasty Greek food served quickly. And less than half the price of comparable Rittenhouse Square restaurants.

The hummus was pretty standard but the grape leaves were delicious! My fiance and I both has the chicken gyro and it was good, but it left something to be desired. I wish it had more flavor or spice to it. It was kind of bland. The service was pretty good. I don't know if we'll come back again...

Stopped here today as we were in the area. Shared the cold appetizer combo which was delicious. My lunch partner opted for a salad which she enjoyed. I got the chicken sandwich (gyro) . I had them hold the fries that come inside the sandwich & it was enough!! Their pita bread is amazingly fresh ! We just had to share baklava to complete our meal and visit! Prices were very reasonable. Parking is available right across the street. Staff were friendly! Service was good. Plenty of outside seating.

My wife and I spent our anniversary weekend by touring the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA. (insert appropriate humor here!) We at at Zorba's Tavern on a Saturday night. I'm glad we made reservations because it was packed. And, for good reason. Their food is simply outstanding. My wife had a mixed grill; marinated pork, chicken and lamb. I've had this sort of dish other places, but Zorba's is the best! The meat was tender, juicy and full of flavor. I had a lamb shank with various root vegetables and I KNOW it was simmering all day!! I just about cried for how delicious it was! It reminded me of my Western PA hometown (New Castle) where in my neighborhood many people had outdoor stone ovens and the lamb, chicken, you name it just holds you in it's trance. That is what Zorba's is like!! You can also bring your own bottle of wine. Fabulous place. Be sure to make a reservation. I'll be back!!

Absolutely authentic greek place in Philadelphia. It was cold morning, and after a good plenty of sightseeing I was ready to have a good portion of hot coffee and to eat smth. Nearby the Eastern State Penitentiary I have found (following an advice of my friends) this small but fabulous Tavern. However it was early for such places it was open and owners were ready to warm my body by a cup of absolutely TRUE DELICIOUS GREEK-STYLE COFFEE and a big portion of Gyros. Friendly staff, even free wi-fi and moderate prices created this picture fully. I have eaten enough and took the chill off. This place stimulated me to continue my walking tour and now I am ready to recommend Zorba's Tavern for all who will be around there. GOOD

Comfortable, casual restaurant. Traditional Greek food, served promptly and efficiently. Unfortunately, they were out of lamb on the night we were there. Other options were available and were good, but we had had our heart set on eating lamb. The souvlaki was delicious. appetizers were well prepared, and the baklava was the best we had ever had.

We came here twice over a long weekend. The first time, we had visited the art museum and walked to Zorba's for dinner. It was a great find. We had no reservation and the place was crowded, but we were seated within minutes of walking in. A basket of fantastic bread was brought to the table along with some dipping oil and our water. The waitress was very professional and helpful with our orders. Son got the octopus, hubby got the imam baldi and I got the cold appetizer combination. Everything was fantastic!! The atmosphere is pleasant (a bit darkish) and warm. Everyone working in the kitchen area was as nice as the waitstaff. Two days later, we visited the Eastern State Penitentiary and afterward, walked to Zorba's. It was about 4 o'clock and we were told we could order from either the lunch or dinner menu. For appetizers we ordered the hummus and grilled octopus. Son got the lamb shank, hubby got the artichokes constantinople, daughter got the gyro plate and I got the imam baldi. Again, every single dish was super tasty. Everyone was friendly. If you are anywhere near Philly, you should try to get to Zorba's! You won't be sorry. PS Its BYOB!

Authentic, delicious, reasonably priced. Great service! Plus BYOB! We’d loved our server, Yanni. He had great recommendations and was so kind. 4 adults, 4 kids and everyone loved the food. A great family dinner in Philly!

Delicious Greek dishes, basic and simple yet fulfilling the promise. Sitting inside or out, good service with a smile, right prices.

While waiting for our scheduled tour of Eastern State Penitentiary to begin, my wife and I realized we had enough time to grab a quick lunch. We were both unfamiliar with the Fairmount area of the city, yet could see a number of eateries up and down the street. We opted for Zorba's Tavern since it was directly across from our tour entrance. My wife loves sidewalk dining in good weather, people watching and gyros. Sidewalk seating was somewhat limited but we found a table right away. Our server was attentive and more than willing to describe various menu items. Being creatures of habit, we selected gyros served in a parchment sleeve laced with a delightful Mediterranean sauce. We were not disappointed. The sidewalk was busy but by no means crowded and offered a cosmopolitan yet neighborhood atmosphere all at the same time. When we're next in Philly, this eatery will certainly be on our 'must' list.

We chose this neighborhood restaurant because we heard it was good. We had the lamb sampler with lamb shank, leg of lamb and lamb sausage in a tomato sauce. It was quite good, had even cooked all day and could be sliced with a fork. We also enjoyed the meatballs, Greek salad, and gyro. The service was good as well.

I'd recommend a reservation on the weekend, but they managed to accommodate a group of 8 on short notice, so you never know. Everyone in my party raved about the food here. There were no vegans/vegetarians or people with food allergies in the group, so I can't say anything about how such folks may fare here. The soups were excellent. The bread was delicious, and the entrees were both filling and delicious. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive, and we didn't lack for beverages or anything else. It's definitely easier to Uber/taxi than to walk from the city's center, but it is do-able either way. Parking, on the other hand, seemed to be at a premium in the area. The BYOB was a bit of a surprise to our group, but we adjusted. Next time, we'll go wine shopping first!

For its type, Zorba's is very good. Most aspects are fairly average, but the food is consistently interesting and well done. The decor is slightly bleak, but not at all off putting; just a little dark and close. However prices are cheap enough to recommend Zorba's for a quick no frills meal that well never disappoint.

Friendly service, unhurried atmosphere, delicious lamb and combo meals. BYO helps keep the costs down. Great place to go with friends or family.

Me and the husband made a last minute decision to get Greek. Ordered the lamb sampler for two. Absolutely amazing food and service. It was a Friday night and we didn't have a reservation. Wasn't a long wait. Parking lot right across the street is convenient since on street parking is almost non-existent. Will be coming here again.

Very tasty food! Went with another couple....Shared the cold appetizer combination, and it was a nice selection and very flavorful! Grilled octopus appetizer was outstanding! Plenty of both to share amongst the four of us. Shared two main courses with a friend: Shrimp with tomato sauce and feta cheese was delicious!!! Artichoke dish was good, but would not have been enough for a meal.

Went for lunch with my husband and 2 kids after the Arts museum tour. The server was very likable. The octopus appetiser was outstanding and so was the calamari. Lamb and chicken gyros were all great. Will definitely come again.

We found this wonderful little restaurant down the block from the Eastern State Penitentiary. We sat outside and appeared to be one of the few tables not speaking Greek. The pita was hot and the hummus perfect. Sandwiches were large and very good. Our group of three ordered two gyros & a melitzana (roasted eggplant), all in that wonderful pita. And Greek Coffee. Highly recommended.

Had a good time at this place. Saw the other good ratings and decided to trek into the big city. Not a great looking place inside, but the food makes up for it. Decent prices for very good food. Remember to bring your own wine. Parking was difficult unless you are willing to pay to park across the street (Very convenient). Definitely would return given the opportunity. Enjoy.

Love Greek food so the anticipation was high when we found Zorbas. The appetizer bread was very hard, so hard to eat that I gave up to avoid destroying the roof of my mouth. Greek salad came with some above avg moist Feta cheese. A vegan ordered the spinach thing and she said that was outta this world however our gourmet dinner and kids shared combination meal was standard greek fare you might expect from anywhere.

After a tour of the Eastern State Penitentiary we stopped across the street at Zorba's. Casual, nice sidewalk dining, excellent food. Loved the stuffed grape leaves and appetizer combo. Daughter in from out of town had a minor question about her pita sandwich...literally before with waiter could finish explaining things the owner/ manager overhearing the conversation swooped in and took care of things...VERY ACCOMODATING!!! BTW the Soutzoukaki Pita was excellent!

We had the special lamb shank with artichoke hearts and lemon potatoes. I have eaten at a lot of Greek restaurants and this one is family owned and lives up to its reputation as great Greek food

We've never been disappointed on our many visits to Zorba's. The food is always fresh and served with smile. Every dish has been superb and since it's a BYO, the value can't be beat! This is one of our favorite places and we'll be returning regularly.

Went for a birthday celebration. Been here many times. I’m happy to say that the service and food are always good.

Great little restaurant in the Fairmount section. Parking lot right across the street. Service was great and the food was great also. We started with the grilled Octopus which was so tender and the Roast Eggplant Dip was very tasty. We both had the Lamb shanks there was 2 different recipes they were fall off the bone tender. We finished the meal with Baklava and Honey coke both very good. The only negative is they served the appetizers and dinner to fast. But we were able to relax and finish our bottle of wine before ordering desert. Love that it is a BYOB.

Cozy little restaurant in the Art Museum area. The food was excellent. Starting with a very nice grilled octopus appetizer and a Greek salad large enough for four to share, our main courses were super. My wife had a delicious eggplant dish. I had the octopus dinner, served with a side of vegetables. Our friends had nicely done salmon and chicken. Good value, super friendly service. BYOB

We really enjoyed this Greek restaurant! Next time we go here, we will leave some time to order the whole bronzino for two which folks at another table had and it looked great.

We recently ordered food to go here. I had the Greek Villager's Salad and charcoaled sampler for one. The sampler included: pork kabob, marinated chicken breast, one rack lack lamb chop, home made sausage and gyro, plus rice and a bean veggie mixture. It was delicious, and there was enough to save for another meal. While we didn't dine on site, they have a nice area on the street for sidewalk dining/people watching.

We were leaving the fascinating Eastern Penitentiary, walking to the Art Museum, when we happened into Zorba's. What a treat. Started with some Greek coffee which we followed with the best grilled octopus I think I Have ever had. Sooooo tender. I had a gyro salad. Very good. My husband had the ground lamb/beef meat entree. Really delicious. The server was very friendly.

I have driven by this place so many times and never paid any attention to the restaurant. We went last night for a Birthday part celebration. What a pleasant surprise. I had the mix grill and it was delicious!!!! I'm not a fan of lamb chops but these were delicious and I can't wait to go back. It's a very comfortable restaurant, low key and great good. If your visiting Philadelphia this summer this is a great place to experience Greek Cuisine. The restaurant is just blocks away from the art museum in a nice neighborhood

Greek spoken here. This is a great place for authentic Greek food. The lamb shank was great. Service was very good. They have a limited number of tables on the sidewalk and on the street. Some are covered. Visit the Eastern State Penitentiary and then eat at Zorba’s.

I went after a museum trip and ventured down the street to a sandwich shop. Starving I asked my out of town cousin and daughter to walk a little further and walked into Zorba's just because of the name....(In My Big Fat Greek Wedding) We wandered in and it was awesome! Fresh, fresh, fresh food! I ordered the large platter with everything and it was demolished!! My cousin ordered a Gyro. We had wonderful Greek Coffee and dessert! I want to go there just for the food!!!! No Museum necessary:)

Been here many times and their food is always good. We shared the combination of cold appetizers for starter and it was good. Ordered 2 Grilled octopus and they were nice. Both roasted leg lamb and lamb sampler for two were delicious. Good services and friendly waitstaff.

We decided to try something new. This was a smaller restaurant. Very friendly staff. They explained what the foods were and what we might like to try since we had not previously eaten in a authentic Greek restaurant. We did not care for the grape leaves appetizer. The pita bread with lamb and sauce were pretty good. Prices were reasonable. I would recommend this establishment. I just don’t believe Greek food is our taste but don’t let that stop you from trying something new.

The place was filled at 4pm on a Sunday when our group arrived after seeing the one day in Pompei exhibit. The food was very authentic Greek. I had excellent lamb meatballs, someone had the grilled lamb chops and another had the lamb shank. The artichokes were also outstanding. Vey cozy. Very Greek.

We went for an early dinner.....and were really just trying to find a spot within walking distance of the parking lot. We passed by this place and were skeptical, but took a chance! On the inside you would be pleasantly surprised to find cute, painted walls with Greek scenes, two, small dining rooms with table clothes!! I know that sounds funny but from the outside you might think it is a "to-go" spot or a deli with groceries. The food is excellent. I had the chicken on the grill. It was slightly dry but the rice and vegetables were perfect. My colleague tried the sample plate and for a few dollars more than the chicken, you get way too much food. Great bread!! I thought the waitstaff could have been more cheerful, but they were mostly Greek, so that is always a good sign!! lol

Every time I visit my daughter in Philly I make sure to make a reservation at Zorba's. The food is amazing and the service is impeccable. The only time I was disappointed was when I didn't call early enough to get a reservation and couldn't get in! Reasonably priced as its BYOB.

There were 5 of us on a day trip to Philadelphia. We were at the restaurant for over an hour and 45 minutes. Which is normally the average time. In that almost 2 hours we were told no you can't have anymore bread and oil? You see the server took it upon himself to say no because he didn't want us to fill up on bread.I should state that our friend who plans our trips is a Greek and is manager to multiple restaurants and yes Greek ones raved about this place. We were told that we had to use paper towels in the ladies room as they were out of toilet paper. We were told we didn't order a salad for one of our trip mates guess she was eating the table cloth. Our day planner started feeling sick about 1 hour 30 minutes into our stay. She ate fish dip and Potato dip octopus and artichokes. She keep complaining she might get sick. Well you guessed it we felt terrible and worst off they still didn't replace the toilet paper. How do you ask a group of woman or really anyone to use paper towels? ?? We left the restaurant it wasn't till 3 more members got violently sick that we narrow it down to the fact it was the fish dip having order 2 of them and the 4 only eating it. The one person who didn't get sick was the person who didn't eat any dips. My Greek friend called and let them know but they seemed not to believe us. Obviously they had our number on caller I'd but they never called back to see how we are. Sick as dogs out of the Greek mouth it came! Never going back

Right across from Eastern State penitentiary. The lamb tasted like mom's cooking. Greek coffee was great. Price is reasonable.

I stopped by here before heading over to Eastern State, which sits across the street from this location. The weather was relatively pleasant, so I sat outside and experienced one of the most unique restaurant views I have had -- that of a prison. The food was amazing. I ordered the charcoaled chicken platter which came with warm pita bread, rice, vegetables, and a potato halve. Not a bad lunch for about $10. The service was good, though nothing spectacularly special. Overall, enjoyable food for a reasonable price.

Family living in Philadelphia insisted we try this restaurant. So glad we did. The wait staff was so attentive to the point of helping us maneuver a stroller in the door. The food was just outstanding and truly Greek. There is a vast menu of selections to choose from and you cannot go wrong with any of them. Portions are huge so consider sharing. It is BYOB so come prepared . This place will not disappoint.

If you’re looking for a good reasonably priced restaurant in Philly’s museum district, Zorba’s Tavern, 2230 Fairmount Avenue, should fill the bill nicely. Situated in the shadow of Eastern Penitentiary, this diminutive father-son BYOB establishment boasts two colorful dining rooms, an open kitchen, and some very, very good Greek cuisine. Conveniently, there’s also a paid parking lot located just across the street. To start things off, all the usual suspects are present and accounted for. You may choose from such items as dolmades, stuffed grape leaves with rice, onion & dill; grilled marinated octopus; skordalia, crushed garlic & potato purée; kalamari, batter-dipped fried squid; bouyurdi, baked feta cheese & tomatoes; and saganaki, fried cheese. But the real test of a Mediterranean restaurant is their horiatiki (village) salata, or what has come to be known in the U.S. as simply a “Greek salad.” This is usually served in a large bowl and is meant to be shared among all diners at the table. Depending upon the whim of the chef, the salad will likely contain chunks of tomato & cucumber, slivers of red onion, olives (both pitted and au naturel), feta cheese, and oregano… lettuce is optional. The salad we shared during our recent visit contained no greenery, which is not at all unusual. But the key to a great Greek salad, other than the freshness of the ingredients, of course, lies in the dressing – the proper proportions of oil, vinegar, herbs, and other seasonings. Zorba’s version is positively addictive. We found ourselves dipping in pieces of bread to soak up every last drop… The perfect prelude to your meal. Entrées offer a variety of possibilities, including seafood, vegetarian, lamb, pastas, and a variety of dishes grilled over charcoal. We desperately wanted to try the “Fisherman’s Feast” for two – salmon, tilapia, rainbow trout filets, and two shrimps roasted over charcoal – unfortunately the dish was not available the night of our visit. My wife finally settled on “Shrimp Poseidon,” shrimp grilled over charcoal simply adorned with olive oil & lemon and garnished with wilted greens, tomato & cucumber. The crustaceans were at the peak of good health, properly crunchy, plump and flavorful. I decided to take the vegetarian route with the Imam Baldi, a dish that I have sampled on numerous occasions and always enjoy. The presentation consists of eggplant stuffed with sautéed onions and tomatoes that is cooked in olive oil and topped with a savory tomato sauce, herbs, and feta cheese. Imam Baldi (Bayildi) literally means “the imam fainted.” The name supposedly derives from a tale of an imam (leader of a mosque) who swooned with pleasure at the flavor when presented with this dish by his wife… Other more humorous accounts suggest that he fainted upon hearing the cost of the ingredients or the amount of oil used to prepare the dish. Whatever your interpretational leaning, Zorba’s rendition of this vegetarian classic is absolutely delicious on all counts. Most main courses are generously accompanied by mixed vegetables, rice, and potato. The vegetables, I would add, are prepared in the traditional Greek manner, teamed with tomatoes, garlic, oregano, lemon, olive oil, and are roasted for a long period of time. They are served well beyond al dente, quite soft, in fact. But that extended roasting unleashes a host of incomparable flavors. If you have never tried vegetables roasted in the Greek style, you are in for a rare treat… The potatoes, prepared with olive oil, chicken stock, lemon, and oregano are also not to be missed. Potatoes, vegetables, and rice are also available as side dishes. When it comes to dessert, the baklava, which was being cut into individual portions when we arrived, is positively benchmark and highly recommended. If you wish to accompany it with your usual postprandial beverage, just be advised that Greek coffee is made in a specially designed long-handled cylindrical pot called a briki, is served in a small demitasse cup with foam similar to espresso, and is very, very strong… It can also be extremely sweet. If you’re accustomed to having your espresso unadorned, as I am, be sure to specify sketos, without sugar. Also keep in mind that thick coffee grinds tend to settle on the bottom of the cup… so this is one coffee that is definitely NOT good to the last drop! As noted above, since Zorba’s Tavern is a BYOB restaurant, just don’t forget to tote along your vintage of choice. If you’d like to indulge in a preprandial cocktail before settling in, Rembrandt’s, 741 North 23rd Street, directly across from Zorba’s on the other side of the parking lot, is a personal fave. And Jack’s Firehouse, 2130 Fairmount Avenue, is just a block away on the same side of the street.

We had a very enjoyable lunch here. The dining room is nicely appointed with paintings and the ambiance of relaxing background music. The menu choices were varied and reasonably priced, the food was good and the service friendly.

Honestly, this was the best Greek food I've ever eaten. Very well prepared, excellent service. The baklava was out of this world.

The restaurant was busy on this early Sunday evening but the service was good. The flaming Saganaki appetizer was a fried cheese and ouzo delight. Went great with our BYOB red wine. The Shrimp Poseidon and the Rack of Lamb Chops were done to perfection and very filling. I would definitely come back and call for reservations beforehand.

This is a small little place on Fairmount Avenue, convenient to the Museum of Art. We dined outside on a beautiful evening. Furry much fun to watch the people walking along the Avenue. However, the food was a bit disappointing. We had a combination meat plate and a combination seafood appetizer. Seafood appetizer included fried calamari which was fine. However, the octopus which way overcooked and had the texture of a rubber band. Similarly, the Meech, that We're cooked on an open grill, season to perfection but overcooked and, hence, dry. This is a problem that is easily solved. Service was great. Also nice that it is BYOB

Zorba's is tucked away not far from the Philadelphia Museum. The food is excellent, and the atmosphere is welcoming. I was meeting friends I hadn't seen in ages, and the staff made us feel welcome the whole time we were there. The food is all fresh; the desserts excellent. Zorba's is Philly at its best.

Quality ingredients and a warm family atmosphere make this a winner. As repeat customers we've found all the dishes to be excellent. The restaurant is small so please make a reservation.

We'd worked up quite an appetite viewing the brilliant 'Leger' exhibit at the Museum of Art, so we drove down Fairmount Ave. to an area full of shops and restaurants and spotted Zorba's. I walked inside to discover a cozy little bar and dining room filled with tantalizing aromas. We sat down across from a Greek family (always a good sign) and ordered the assorted cold appetizer plate, which included a caviar spread, hummus, garlic spread, eggplant & tomato spread, tzatsiki, feta cheese spread, a stuffed grape leaf, olives, sliced cucumber, and of course, some warm pita bread. Each item was intensely flavorful and distinct...nothing timid here. For the main course, I ordered a delicious Lamb Sandwich, full of tender, juicy meat, with lettuce, tomato, tzatsiki, and a few french fries thrown in (that's the Philly twist), all wrapped up in pita bread. My husband got a Seared Salmon Plate with tasty cubed potatoes and a vegetable melange - all cooked to perfection. It's obvious why the Greek family across from us has been coming here for years!

Absolutely delectable dinner for 4 on a Sunday evening. Appetizer platter, calamari, lamb shank, mussels - all superb. And very fairly priced!

WOW! I had heard of Zorba’s before, but never thought it could be as exceptional of an experience as it was. The authenticity of this place brings you to the magic of the Greek isles. The owner’s family runs a restaurant in Thessaloniki, so you know it’s going to be great! I had a delicious lamb shank with artichokes and lemon, the flavors made me feel like I was overlooking the Aegean from a rocky cliff. The crisp lemon, the slight tang of the artichoke, the rich depth of the tender lamb—a symphony for the senses! For dessert I enjoyed a fantastic Baklava, as well as tasting a moist and tender honey cake my parents got. Service was efficient and so very friendly, you can tell the people here really care about you enjoying yourself. I cannot wait to return and try some of the other specialties on offer. This is a new regular spot for me!

My husband and I were looking for a vegetarian-friendly place to eat lunch after a trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and we found Zorba's! It was delicious. We had the spicy feta dip to start. I loved my eggplant and feta sandwich--it same with the most delicious "fries" tucked into the pita--and my husband loved his lettuce-free Greek villager's salad with chicken. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. A great gem near the museum and the penitentiary!

On a heat wave day, we went inside for the a.c. The staff was friendly. The place was cute, small, cozy, nice. It was lunch time & the prices were reasonable. Cold mixed appetizers plate was very good, and the eggplant within was super. "Grilled" octopus was disappointing - small slices in a juice. We prefer charred whole tentacles ( Tarpon Springs style ). Mussels in red sauce were tasty, but sort of average - nothing special. Roasted lamb lunch platter was very good, and best of all was the mixed vegetables. They were so tasty, I could have eaten a plateful. BYO with no corkage is a plus.

Returning to Zorba's after a time away was a great experience. We ordered takeout this time. It was delivered in a timely manner by a very friendly and efficient person. The food was hot and the same good quality that we remembered.

This was our second choice for lunch after visiting the Eastern State Penitentiary. We were seated right away and served promptly. We ordered the appetizer which included a variety of the different spreads with the fresh pita bread. Like most restaurants, the bread never goes far enough. However, make sure to keep in mind that they charge you for extra pita bread. It wasn't verbalized to us so I didn't know until I received the bill. Everything else was plentiful and the fries on the pita sandwiches was unique and tasty.

We stopped at Zorba's for lunch. What looked like a tiny place from the outside turned out to be a nice, cozy restaurant on the inside with really beautiful interior design (loved the orange walls with blue accents!). With traditional Greek music playing, it really felt like we were in Greece. We ordered an appetizer combination platter served with warm pitas, and lunch specials of charcoal pork and chicken souvlaki, served with rice pilaf and veggies. The food was delicious, the portions just right. We were in the hurry (had booked a guided tour in Eastern State Penitentiary, which is right across the street from Zorba"s), so it was a great relief Zorba's service was really fast. Their staff was great!

The food if good, actually a great-fusion instead of strict Mediterranean (you will be disappointed if you go thinking to order pure Mediterranean). Only 2 Vegan Choices on Menu - I was expecting Falafal :-( There is PAID parking in-front of this place and that's the reason I was suggested by my friend for dinner. The only reason I am giving low is that on Friday 9 PM, restaurant was nearly 1/2 empty but staffs showing attitude to "do you have reservations, else you please wait in line & I was the only person waiting fo 10 minutes" even through staff was free-chit-chatting!!! The ambiance is good for taking your date-out in the left side of the section, right side of section was loud and noisy. Must try if you are in that part of the city.

My two friends and I went this weekend, and I was very unimpressed. The server was not nice, and did not give us room temperature water when we asked for- because one of us had a really bad cold! The food was over priced, and not tasty. I shared the meatball made of beef and lamb, and it was horrible. No salt at all! Too much sauce and the mixed veggies and baked potatoes looked old. we shared a appetizer too, and the octopus was a joke. five little pieces in this oily sauce! Other friend ordered the octopus entree, and it was again a joke, barely any octopus there. Don't go there. The food is terrible!

Good small Greek restaurant. Feels like a little piece of Greece in the middle of Philadelphia. Good service, feels familiar. Great food, plenty of options.

Visiting Zorba's Tavern had been on our Philadelphia to-do list, and after a recent trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, we finally made it to Zorba's. Our first inkling of what was to follow came when the front-of-house person brought us to a table for four, separated the two tables and directed us to the one against the wall. This gave me a view of only the Coca Cola refrigerator for my entire meal. At the time, only one other table was filled, and that was a couple at a table for four. Some time after, another couple came in, and they were also seated at a table for four. Our server was pleasant but clueless. Was it her first day at work? She was unfamiliar with the menu and was going to ask if they would make hummus for lunch. Granted, there was both a lunch menu and a dinner menu, side by side, but they both listed hummus, which is pretty much a staple item in a Greek restaurant. We ordered hummus for our appetizer, and it was just ok. The pita bread accompanying it was delicious. Our server stood off to the side, but in clear view of our table, and never cleared the appetizer plates until just before our salads came. Lately, we have had some delicious Greek salads with chicken, but Zorba's salad was not one of those. The chicken was way overcooked with black char marks and exceedingly dry. Nothing seemed to have much taste at all. Worst of all, the salad was swimming in oil. I left quite a bit of my salad because it was drenched in oil. Very little balsamic vinegar to be found. On the way out, at which time there were four or five tables still available in that room, I asked the front of house why he gave the couples before and after us tables for four but made a big point of seating us at a table for two in the worst possible spot in the restaurant. He said it was because they no longer had any tables for two. Well, of course they did, the one next to us! The restaurant is BYOB, but I would rather pay for wine in a better restaurant. We are cured of our interest in going to Zorba's ever again. When we are in the art museum area we will either go for sushi or for salad and sandwiches at Little Pete's.

Just a few blocks from the Eastern State Penitentiary and the Philadelphia Museum of Art is this excellent neighborhood Greek restaurant. Friendly staff and distinctively prepared Greek dishes. Different from your run-of-the mill Greek restaurant.

I have frequented this Greek restaurant since it opened 20+ years ago. Consistent food , moderately priced , BYOB. Indoor and outdoor seating. The tzatziki is awesome as well as any of the grilled meats. I have known the family and watched the 3 sons and daughter grow up and now run the restaurant. The staff us great . You feel like family when you go.

Small BYOB wih inside and outside seating. Prices are very reasonable. My friend and I shared the octopus appetizer which was delicious - nice and tender. We both had our own gyros - delicious. We shared the baklava for dessert. Best baklava I ever had! Street parking is a challege. Will come again.

Very delicious bring your own beer/wine restaurant that serves traditional Greek food. It is located near Eastern State Penitentiary and named after a famous book by Nikos Kazantzakis that was also a movie starring Anthony Quinn in the 1960s. I had the lamb chops which were served with salad, potatoes, veggies, tzatziki and bread. Then topped that off with galaktoboureko for dessert. The lamb chops were tender and prepared just right. The service was great and I met the owner too. Definitely worth trying if you're visiting the city of brotherly love. Opa!

Stopped in for lunch on a cold rainy day and it was such a great choice! The food is delicious, fresh, and made to order! A quaint little family business, serving up delicious Greek food!

Our family ate here after going to Eastern State Penitentiary. The food was very good and the service was very attentive. I love lamb and don't get to have it very often and the lamb was delicious. My daughter and I both had deserts and they were great too. We will definitely going back to Zorba's.

Came in a little late, 8 or so. It was clear we were not welcome. Food over cooked, dry & unappetizing. That plus attitude =s not going back. Some other folks in the neighborhood like this place. I find it overrated.

We went in a group of 6 and had plenty of space and very prompt service. The space is set up to accommodate anything from couples dates to medium/larger groups. The food was excellent (spicy feta spread was incredible). My wife and I shared the meat platter, which was seasoned incredibly well. The meat was tender and very tasty. I'm a sucker for baklava, and I was not disappointed. It wasn't exceptional, but it was very tasty and definitely satisfying. We always love finding BYO places with good food, and this one definitely delivers. We really look forward to returning and trying some of the other dishes.

This was really delicious and wasn't meant to be a big deal. We shared the octopus hors d'oeuvre: it was spectacular. We should have gotten two. I had the lamb, which was excellent, and my daughter had the shrimp, which she found excellent. This is a find, a place to go back to. It was $72 for two, not counting wine, which you bring yourself.

A neighborhood restaurant that’s been around for a pretty long time. The food is always very good with good service. The fired cheese is excellent as is everything else on the menu. There is outside seating, weather permitting.

We've been regulars since the place opened, probably 20 years ago. The grilled fish, the octopus, the tzatziki, the baklava, the lamb stews . . . this is a very comfortable, low-key, excellent place to have dinner.

Nice sidewalk spot. Order the combination of cold appetizers. Why order just one appetizer when you can sample them all for a great price? I'm still craving the potato garlic puree. My husband ordered the SOUTZOUKAKI and he really enjoyed it. All dishes were licked clean afterwards. My first time trying Turkish coffee and it was very good. Friendly service, reasonable prices, good location. Very happy with this meal.

My friend and I found this on a whim, as we were going to tour the Eastern State Pen, which is right up the street. I'm half Greek, so I tend to be picky about my Greek food when I eat out somewhere. I started with the dolmades, which were great. I had the lunch gyro platter, which was very tasty. Then to finish it off, I had the best baklava I've ever had in my life; it was soaked in honey at the bottom and was a little bit of heaven!

We celebrated our anniversary here by sharing the lamb sampler - a large oval platter with two savory spiced meatballs, roast lamb, cooked vegetables and salad. Regrettably, we did not remember to bring our own wine. The food was delicious - home style.

Zorba's is within walking distance from the Philadelphia Museum of Art and also a block up from the Eastern State Penitentiary. We stopped here for a late lunch. At first glance, seeing white linen on the tables, thought maybe we shouldn't be here, but that's just how nice Zorba's is. Our server was truly wonderful, didn't rush us, removed dishes when we were finished allowing us to relax and talk. We like that. I had the fish gyro and it was fantastic. I was really amazed at how fresh and flavorful the fish was. We are planning to go back again this summer.

Zorba's serves authentic ood from the northern part of Greece. The meze were excellent, especially the eggplant with feta (although the skordalia had a bit too much garlic.) Then, the lamb combination platter was a touch of Olympus, with melt-in-your mouth leg of lamb and delicious lamb shank cooked in an unusual lemon-artichoke sauce. This was an excellent value.

Great restaurant! Food was fantastic, the location beautiful (feel warmingly) and waitress very kindly. I recommend this restaurant. Remember that it is byob (not a problem in any case)

I have lived in area for a while. Never ate here. Now sorry it has taken me so long. Amazing food. Amazing service. Can't wait to go back.

Absolutely delicious! I had the lunch Gyros platter and ate every bit! It was a great lunch portion and left me full, but not stuffed. Everything had great flavor and seemed authentic. This is a great find and something different in Philly.

I frequented Zorba's when I lived in Philly. It was so great to sit outside on a warm summer night and have fantastic Greek food with a wonderful wait staff.

Enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Zorbas! Food was delicious and portions good! Everything tasted so fresh and was cooked perfectly! Staff was so friendly delivering great service! Lunch platters came with choice of meat with sides of rice, potatoes, vegetables, pita and tsatziki. Had a delicious baklava for dessert. This is a cute neighborhood spot located right across from the penetetiary offering authentic Greek food at reasonable prices. We will definitely be back!

Some of the best Greek food in the city! I had the lamb lunch plata no my wife had the chicken platter. Both great, but the chicken was better. Also we both had the avgolemono soup to start. Everything was delicious! Thanks

This is probably one of the best Greek meals I've ever had. The restaurant itself reminds you of being in one of your Greek friend's houses from high school with multiple busts of Zeus and other kitschy knickknacks, but overall the quality of the food and service were second to none! We started off with the cold appetizer sampler which was delicious and tasty! I then had the charcoal sampler which again was a mix of different meats and it was incredibly well priced and fresh! If there's one thing I've learned about Philadelphia is that you should eat locally at neighborhood restaurants like this and not to believe the hype of a certain magazine's Top 50 list. If you're looking for a good, honest meal, there are few places in Philadelphia that can give you the experience that you get at Zorba's.

Everything we had at Zorba's was excellent! From our appetizer to dessert, it was full of flavor and fresh. The Charcoal Platter for One is a great way to taste a little bit of everything - meats, veggies, salad. I'll admit that at first I thought Zorba's was a tavern with bar food, but boy was I wrong. You won't find better Greek Food in Philly than Zorba's. The cheapest dish (appetizer) in the menu is $4, the most expensive was $37 (a fish dish @ at market price.) They serve beer and wine. Great place to dine outdoors on a nice cool night. Great place to people watch on Fairmont.

I had dolmades and the charcoal lamb chops delivered. The lamb chops were too thin and therefore disappointing. The vegetables around the lamb chops, roast potatoes and rice (yes) and greens were wonderful. Even the tomato slices with the dolmades were wonderful. The explanation: this place has some fantastic olive oil. Keep that in mind when you make your choices. If you don't order something with olive oil, you are missing out.

When we go here we feel like we escape Philadelphia and travel to another country - Greece! It's a wonderful little family run restaurant that has large portion sizes. The lamb and octopus are my favorite dishes. If you order the cheese appetizer, they add a flame to it in front of the table which is always fun attraction. Zorba's is a casual and affordable BYO that is worth taking a cab ride to if you are not in Fairmount.

Split the cold sampler appetizer. Very impressive collection of flavors, delicious. I had the chicken kabob and my partner had the Calamari. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. Calamari was nicely battered and very tender. You'd be hard pressed to go wrong here.

My husband and I live in Fairmount and Zorba's has consistently been one of our favorite restaurants! The food is delicious (esp the charcoaled lamb chops and octopus) and affordable, also a BYOB which helps. The combination dip platter is also delicious. The only reason I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars is they can be somewhat difficult if you do not have reservations. I recommend at least calling ahead and they seem to be more receptive.

We ordered from door dash last night. The grilled chicken skewers were ok. The Village salad was in a pool of oil! I had to drain it. The feta was like the small feta crumbles you buy in the grocery store. Should be ashamed. You need to use a good feta block ands cut it into big wedges. The tzatziki had so much garlic powder in it. Overwhelming. We could not get the taste out of our mouth. candy, mouthwash. Barely helped. The calamari was fishy. There are other better and less expensive places to eat.

We visited Zorbas Tavern for lunch last week and had a wonderful experience. The ambiance transported me back to Greece, reminiscent of my trip there last year. We ordered lamb chops, chicken kebab, and a Greek salad. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend Zorbas.

My husband and I ate here with our two daughters (ages 11 and 23) and a friend. My daughters are vegetarians, and there were plenty of good options for them. It is BYOB and the food prices are reasonable. Fresh bread was brought out quickly after we were seated. We had two appetizers: hummus and a potato and garlic spread both with pita bread and both delicious. The entrees we had were Imam Baldi (stuffed eggplant), Artichokes Constantinople, Greek salad, Lamb Kapama and Greek Islands pasta (shrimp, mussels, squid, octopus in a red wine sauce). Everyone was very happy with their food except me - the artichokes were just okay - not very interesting or flavorful. For dessert we had delicious Baklava and a peach sorbet served in a peach. We also had Greek coffee. Our waiter was very friendly and the service flawless. I would definitely return here (and order something else). This restaurant is located across the street from the tourist attraction the East State Penitentiary (which is worth a visit!) and we easily found free 3 hour parking near there.

Ate here with my wife and daughter in November - we all loved the experience and are looking forward to eating here again. We started out with the traditional tzatziki and two of us got the Imam Baldi and the other the mussels for entrees. All were savory and served by some of the most enjoyable servers I've ever experienced. Dessert was also excellent. Don't forget to BYOB to complement the meal (there is a liquor store about 4 blocks away). Interesting location with the old Eastern State Penitentiary across the street. Warm, friendly atmosphere!

My husband and I stopped by Zorba's for a late lunch after visiting the Philadelphia Museum. I have a thing about saganaki. I serious saganki addiction. I am considering starting a support group. I do not live in an area that has really authentic Greek food, and yearn for decent saganki. Thank you, Zorba's - not just for being an enabler of this addiction - but for giving me the best darn saganaki experience of my life. Welcoming staff - check. Endearing and awesome service - check. Delicious food and tzatziki sauce - check. Winning best saganaki ever? BRAVO.

Be authentic Greek food is fantastic nice and fresh. The tatzeke sauce is superb. Eaten here several times. Does not disappoint

Maybe we ordered the wrong thing. We went with a "Charcoaled Sampler" for two. It was a boatload of meat with a dollop of rice, potatoes and vegetables. The meats were fine, but none was memorable. We also had a mixed hot appetizer platter. Nice fried calamari, but the mussels in red sauce had an off taste that made me wish I hadn't eaten them. There was octopus as well; it had a nice grilled flavor and was the first I'd eaten. In the end, I wish I'd just ordered a gyro.

Perfect experience. Probably the best Greek restaurant in the USA! Everything including the Service was perfect.

We had a great dinner at this restaurant last night. The food was excellent and the service was good too. I found the kopanisti sauce a little bit more spicy than it is usually made in any parts of Greece, but everything else was perfect. The rest rooms was not so clean and there were not so many people at that time in the restaurant.

When I lived near Philly, I used to get to Zorba's frequently. On a recent trip back, I headed straight there. As a matter of fact, I ate there two of the three days I was in town. The food is still good and the wait staff friendly. The atmosphere is old Philly: while it may be not be chic for millennials, it has a charm that is only enhanced with one of their desserts. Opa.

I was in Philly for a few days, and after leaving the penitentiary tour the girl at gate recommended it. She said its her favorite Greek food in town! She wasn't kidding- I had a Greek salad and gyro, both of which were excellent. I was the only person in the restaurant, Thursday lunch time, but lots of to go orders. Also a shout out to my waitress, Sky, who was great to talk with and very friendly! I would go back in a heart beat

I have been going to Zorba's since it opened 17 years ago. I was a little disappointed this time with their classic lamb dinner. The lamb was dry, but still so flavorful. This one time won't stop me from still counting this among my favorite Greek restaurants.
Food not authentic
The food is cheap I ordered gyros and the meat was from an Aldi or Walmart package . This food is not authentic, the food is very cheap . The atmosphere is nice the service is nice , too bad the food is like can food, the veggie were soggy no flavor. I’ll will not go back there.
