This place has extraordinary food! I love to stop by there when I am in town. The have fast and friendly service too!

Served buffet style. The place is not fancy, but the food is great. I love their Jambalaya, and I can't eat fried shrimp anymore, but my friends love their shrimp.

Before I retired and worked in downtown Houston I frequently ate here. When my daughter comes to visit from Chicago we make it a point to eat here. Food is always good and atmosphere most pleasant. Parking sometimes is difficult but not insurmountable. I look forward to my next visit albeit 50 miles away from home.

Owned by folks from Louisiana. I love their Gumbo. Surprised at how good their fried chicken is. Good cornbread.authentic and reasonably priced . Not fancy.... you can bring the family.

Very low key (cafe style) restaurant, not posh. The manager was extremely hospitable and friendly. Very authentic Cajun and Creole dishes, all the classics. Food is outstanding. Great service. Apparently a Houston institution. We went for lunch and will definitely be back!

I want this place to be so much better but it just doesn't measure up. I've been here several times and each time I leave with a feeling of regret for coming at all. Don't get me wrong, it's not awful, rather just okay. There are dozens of places in Houston to get most of the items served here. Getting a fried seafood poboy here is going to be either exactly the same or only marginally different from everyone else's. So the true indication of their Cajun authenticity and skill are items like 'maque choux' and jambalaya and 'stuffed' pork chops. I had all of these today and was disappointed. Maque choux generally is made up of corn, green bell pepper, tomatoes, onion, and sometimes garlic and celery. Corn is the star ingredient. At Zydeco Diner the maque choux is nothing more than creamed corn. Wow, how authentic. The stuffed pork chops are not the former and barely the latter. That's right, the pork chops are NOT stuffed. They couldn't be because they are about an eighth of an inch thick. They are probably braised and served from a steam table. What you get is an ultra thin piece of cheap pork riddled with bones and gristle. It's dipped into the jambalaya before serving to give it some much needed moisture. The exact description of this on the menu is "Stuffed Pork Chops with Jambalaya." I was disappointed that there really was no jambalaya. They dip the ladle into the jambalaya to retrieve liquid only which they poor over white rice. You're getting stewed roux that adds much needed flavor to the pork but this AINT jambalaya. Perhaps a stray piece of onion escaped the ladel but no sausage, no chicken...no nothing. The dish would be better described as 'thin pork chop, braised into oblivion and dipped in jambalaya liquid.' So bummed. It could be so much better. You should probably stick to the fried stuff.

The food is delicious and the portions are a good size for the money. No matter which location you visit you will definitely get your money's worth. Cajun food is the best and they have a wide variety.

I eat here often. It is only open for lunch and I guessing it has been open at least 25 years. Great friend chicken in additional to all the Cajun favorites. The strawberry lemonade is a real treat.. The poor boys are great. Wonderful sides, especially the okra and tomatoe dish and the black eyed peas.

I've been to this Cajun comfort food restaurant many times over the years for lunch. Generally, I get the baked chicken or stuffed pork chop (both are great). I don't know how I've managed to overlook their po' boys until now. I guess because a lot of their dishes are served cafeteria-style so I just order what I see. But recently I had the pleasure of eating Zydeco's roast pork po'boy. Wow! Yummy.

We visited on Saturday at 18:00. Not crowded. We ordered seafood and chicken both gumbo soup. Creamy crawfish, jambalaya and catfish fried. We favorite is catfish fried. Nice Cajun food. Thank you very much for staff!

Lunch and dinner place. Plate lunches are particularly good, serving a great array of authentic cajun delicacies that change every day. It's a no-frills place with a cafeteria line for service, but don't let that put you off. It keeps the prices reasonable and is a time-saver when there's a crowd; which there is just about every day!

Great welcoming atmosphere. Good portions and great food! Crawfish etoufee was good and sausage and chicken gumbo was delicious. Po Boys are for the next trip most.

This place gets very busy around lunch time. So make sure you get there early or not in a rush. You can also do carryout.

We ordered the shrimp po boy, crab cakes and oysters and were pleased with everything; however the oysters were my favorite. I am picky about seafood and didn’t have anything to complain about here. I would definitely get their oysters and jambalaya again!

Zydeco is an old fashion diner that serves some of the best Cajun food in Houston. Only open for lunch. The gumbos, po-boy's, and red beans with rice are a must.

I had fabulous jambalaya and two sides. They serve both buffet style for their specials and other items to order. They were fast and the food was delicious.

Visited this restaurant with friends and had a very enjoyable early lunch. My friends went through the buffet line and ordered the chicken! I had the shrimp, jambalaya and fries! The restaurant is in an old Prince's Hamburger building downtown! The food was plentiful, flavorful and reasonable! I will definitely be back! Very friendly staff! They carry Garlic Power Sauce and Pig Stand BBQ Sauce! Be sure to pick up some!

Been going there for about 25 years. Always good. I usually have the Creole (salmon today) or the gumbo.

In town for a convention, and tired of eating overpriced food that is OK, and sometimes good, but rarely worth the price. I was searching high and low for a place that would be open past 6:00 PM when we got out of the convention. Believe it or not, in a town as huge as Houston, that's kind of hard to do, at least in the part of town that I am in. Stumbled onto this place on TripAdvisor and found out it was 2 blocks from my hotel. I will go to Zydeco at least once on every trip to Houston from now on. It's totally my kind of place. Completely unpretentious, good southern hospitality, great food, old-school interior. It was awesome. If you are into 'bras and glass' and hoity toity stuff, this is not your spot. If you want a 'hole-in-the-wall' kind of place where you can get a great meal and not break the bank, Head to Zydeco. I wish I had time to head there for lunch tomorrow before leaving town.

This diner has no pretentions and great food. The gumbo was probably the best I’ve tasted. The fried shrimp was cooked perfectly and the bread pudding is to die for. They also play great music. Very busy during the day but pretty quiet at night, since downtown Houston clears out at night.

the service was fast and as it was a work day lunch that was important, the shrimp poboy and fish poboy are the best. I didn't have the gumbo but it looked great

Went to Zydeco for a short lunch between meetings in downtown Houston. Good portion, pleasant environment. A bit spicy, but kind of expected.

I am a Cajun from Louisiana and I love Cajun Food. While staying at the nearby Holiday Inn in downtown Houston, Texas, my wife and I wanted to try some Cajun Food for supper. When I tried calling in to ask about the order I wanted to make, the person that answered said that the side dishes I wanted(green beans and black-peas were not served on the dinner menu......I could not believe this. However, I place an order anyway. When I arrived at the restaurant and mentioned to the waiter on duty how disappointed I was, he said, wait awhile......I'm sure there's still some left from lunch and we can fix you up. Yes, they still had my black-eyed peas and green beans. Them were the best black eyed peas I had eaten in a long time..............seasoned just right for my taste. The service was excellent.

I think this restaurant has a good reputation and a good food. If I was still here I would go at this restaurant. I like its cat fish and its fries are the best fries I've tasted in my life!!

I went there for lunch today hoping I could get in and out in the hour I had allotted. There was an issue with my order and I brought it to the attention of the gentleman at the register (which i assume is the manager or owner). Without hesitation, he requested I get something else off of the menu and thanked me for bringing it to his attention as he wanted to get the problem resolved right away. I order something to go and before I got up to leave, he stopped by again to apologize but this time with a decadent slice of chocolate cake in his hand. :-) It's been a long time since I've experienced that kind of service at any restaurant and I really appreciate the kind gesture.

We enjoed our dinner, the staff was great! The atmosphere was also casual but nice. Food was served in nice portions and as stated the staff was incredible!

Just a short piece from the Toyota Center and what a jewel. Enjoyed the gulf shrimp platter with outstanding jambalaya and fries. Be sure to ask for the jalapeño cornbread -- yummy! Topped it off with some outstanding bread pudding and caramel sauce. We will be back!

I eat at this resturant a few times a year. When in downtown houston, its a great place to go for lunch. Its has a very casual decor and sometimes will have a line during peak lunchtime hours. The gumbo is amazing! Only wish there were open longer hours and more on weekends.

I've been going to Zydeco for lunch for many years due to their great food, service and price. I highly recommend this place for lunch.

Zydeco offers a cafeteria option and some items that are made to order. I opted for the baked chicken with sides of mashed potatos, green beans, and jalepeno cornbread. Everything was really good and since it was cafeteria-style, I had my lunch and was at the table quickly. This is a great option if you dont have a lot of time for lunch. The atmosphere is very casual, but well done for the type of restaurant. On the down side, they are not open for dinner.

We walked down to Zydeco as we had passed it by on the road as we returned into Houston. We entered and were greeted by the owner manger and shown the blackboard menu. The choice was quite easy - the special of the day was chicken, so we both ordered it with slightly different accompanients. But it was the jalapeno corn bread was a champion. When we finished the cook came to our table and asked if we enjoyed our meal - this is great service! Go and enjoy tasty Louisiana food!

nice location and the atmosphere is really good, food is always hot and delicious. The price paid is good

I'm from Louisiana and it is awesome that we have good ole southern, cajun food, here in Houston. Keep up the great cooking and we'll keep coming by. Thanks for all.

My husband couldn't wait to take me to Zydeco because he had been there with a friend & raved about it. We're both from Louisiana & love Cajun food. The restaurant is not fancy. It's a small place in downtown Houston. Food can be ordered at a table from a menu or one can walk through the line & select food like in a cafeteria. I walked through the line & selected chicken & sausage jambalaya with okra & green beans. I was not disappointed. I was able to observe what other people ordered from the menu & I can't wait to go back to try other selections.

Zydeco has a limited menu of great Cajun dishes, but everything is authentic and expertly prepared. From the red beans and rice to the fried foods, it "just like mama prepared." Which is exactly how the owners intend-- home cooked plates that bring back memories of south Louisiana food at its finest.

Lunch steam table fantastic .home cooking Family rescipes . Or you can order off menue.cant leave without taking bread pudding home

Had a late dinner delivered by GrubHub while I was onsite for work. The sandwich was yummy, and the sides were abundant!

This is a "hole in the wall" type of place located downtown and serving cajun food of good quality. Staff is not exactly friendly and the infrastructure of the place is certainly below standard but the food made me return there after my first trial.

Fantastic...great service... great food fair price ...what more could you ask! Awesome old school diner! Thank you for staying in business!

So glad they are now open for dinner/supper! Our group had catfish platters and shrimp poboys. I had mixed green salad with fried oysters and cup of sausage & chicken gumbo. And just had to taste the bread pudding which was really good. Great atmosphere, great zydeco music, delicious food! Will definitely come again whenever we're in the area!

Enjoyed an excellent meal tonight at Zydecos of the Oyster Platter & the Catfish Platter. Best Jambalaya I've ever had. Great food, friendly employees, & a fun atmosphere.

Must try this place if you are in Houston! The food is fresh and the portions are generous. The crawfish etoufee was so good! Cornbread was moist and fit in perfectly with the plate of food. Okra, corn, & mashed potatoes were a perfect compliment to the entree. The chicken & sausage gumbo was Heaven in a bowl! Owner was super friendly too. Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. Will definitely go back next time I am in Houston.

I work down the street from Zydeco and love to go for lunch. Cafeteria style line with lots of cajun food options. The best fried catfish in Houston.

Loved there Crawfish Etoufee. I used to routinely go here at lunchtime, with business associates.. Now it is rare for me to be downtown at lunchtime.

My go to place for Chicken and Sausage Gumbo... Mondays is roast pork - highly recommended... Owners Marty and April Venables are great hosts and let you try spoonfuls of all their dishes.. Roll-on crawfish season - I'll be there!!! Authentic Louisiana Kitchen cooking

Stopped in for Lunch on a Wednesday with my family. If you are looking for something different then your usual this place is it! Great food for a great price! The crab cakes are amazing!

We tried the fried shrimp basket at this diner today. The shrimp were medium size but very tasty, the fries crispy and the rice jambalaya was fabulous. The jambalaya had pork, sausage and chicken in the rice....all seasoned just right. This is a casual place in downtown Houston. It does have a parking lot for customers. Service was friendly and fast. They also had baked chicken as one of their lunch entrees today. You get to choose 2 veggies to go with the meat. Also, the big squares of cornbread looked great.

Owned by Louisiana boys.. and their Mom's and Grand Ma's cooking.. This is it. BEST GUMBO IN HOUSTON.. and when the pork chops are on the menu. Get them. Great casual gritty atmosphere and locals.

We had chicken and sausage jambalaya, red beans and rice, and the combo platter with fried shrimp and catfish. It was delicious. The cornbread it also amazing. We will definitely be going back.

Downtown's go to for reliable great tasting Louisiana style food. Always a tough choice in deciding what to order and an ever pleasant staff to help you along the way.

I used to live near this restaurant and visited several times. Good po'boys & gumbo if you want to give those a try. The setting is casual and laid back.

This place has extraordinary food! My staple meal was the salmon creole with green beans or just the green beans when I worked around the corner. I wish they were open once a month on a Saturday so I could enjoy those flavors again.

very nice sandwiches and fries where very well made. had good staff and wasn't too busy when i entered. very good prices and good drinks!

Not many smiles from the staff, but the food is awesome! Buffet line for ordering sauce picayune or pick up your order for a amazing oyster poboy!

Went to this hole in the wall place after a long day of work at the convention center and was just amazed by the food. Had a catfish, shrimp, jambalaya platter and it was great. Nothing greasy, just full flavor and lightly breaded, topped with an ice cold beer and all was perfect. Friendly staff, that took care of their hungry customer, thats how you do it!

It has some of the best cajun food in Texas. The fried catfish is out of site, and you think that you are across the border in deep Louisiana. The atmosphere is authentic! Bill Bonham

My son and I went to this place by recommadation from Yelp. We had tried seafood gumbo and chicken/sausage jambalaya, I like their cornbread, will be back for crawfish etouffee during crawfish session.

Boy I have coming here for years. Each and everyday has great food items. Just give that chicken and sausage creole a try. My family puts in requests for me to bring it home. Then on Wednesday you got to try the chicken and gravy. Baked chicken is awesome with the jambalaya. Veggies are always good. Try that cabbage on Friday. Not many can compare. The cornbread is the way it is suppose to be made.

WOW, real PoBoys, in Houston, Real Louisiana food , Cheep, and fast. A great place to try if your DT and have the time.

It's not fancy ..Loved the chicken sausage gumbo and jalapeño cornbread! Authentic Louisiana cooking. Closes at 9, go for lunch or early, just go. Neighborhood us inner city in transition, it's ok! 1988 established, must be good or it wouldn't be!! Have bread pudding to go!

Haven't been here in ages. A coupon brought us here today. Kind of a dingy looking corner spot. Inside is clean, cafeteria style. We had the fried catfish platter. It came with red beans and rice, choice of vegetable, and cornbread. Husband had pork roast with corn and green beans. Fresh strawberry lemonade to drink. Everything was very tasty and large portions.

Always enjoy a walk over to Zydeco's for a lunch that makes the afternoon at the office much more bearable. Oysters rule! I just wish they would be open for dinner and weekends but know that a downtown location is not yet there to make it profitable

Stopped here on our way through downtown and so glad we did - it's a hole in the wall and the building isn't much to look at, but overlook!!! You can either order off the blackboard or they have cafeteria style. There were 4 of us - 3 of us had poboys - catfish, shrimp and oyster and all we great. Hubby had a combo plate that he said was great. I had chicken and sausage gumbo and it was amazing!!! And don't forget the bread pudding!! Will definitely stop again when going through downtown!

Great place, will visit again when in the area. The food was great, as was the service. I recommend the shrimp po-boy or the catfish.

Great chicken and traditional side dishes, wonderful atmosphere and the very best of Texas/LA cuisine.

I've been to Zydeco a few times and have never been disappointed. Of the cajun/creole restaurants in Houston, this is one of my favorites, and I prefer it to the other cajun restaurant in downtown Houston. Great shrimp creole and crawfish etouffee. And don't miss the cornbread!

I stopped here on my way back to Austin after reading the reviews. I ordered a catfish Po boy and fries. All I can say is it was the best Po boy I have ever had. The fries were great as well. I will be stopping by here whenever I am in Houston!

Zydeco's is some of the best Louisiana cooking that you will find in Houston. Their fried batter is fantastic, their creole is delicious and their crabcakes are fabulous. The decor and employees has remained the same as well as their cooks. I walk over from my downtown office once every two weeks. It does not disappoint.

Part of being here is the experience, which the restaurant does good at. However, while the portions were very good; think the po-boys could be better. Fries rather greasy. Still, would go back to get that taste of New Orleans food while still being in Houston. Good place to have some fun at lunch.

Always good food. It's always hot, cooked fresh, and excellent customer service. The etouffee is amazing!

It ain't fancy, but it's very good, always the same, with decent prices and friendly folks. Easy parking, too. The owners are from La, so they know what the food is supposed to taste like. The stuffed pork chops are awesome, but I usually get he chicken Creole, and I don't even like chicken.

Good place to eat if you want good Louisiana food. Last time I was there was in the 80's when I worked downtown Houston.

My grandson and I went last year. This was incredible. The sandwich I had was delightful. Nathan said it was called a po-boy, and now whenever I am in a real southern place, I always order a po-boy (if they know what that is of course!) . The Coleslaw was crisp, and seemed fresh. Overall, a 4/5 is justifiable here.

Excellent food, great value. Don't let appearance fool you. The place may appear a bit rough but the food is excellent. Love, love, love their baked chicken w/2 sides. Yum. And their chicken and sausage gumbo is the best!.

Food was great old old school music playing great atmosphere. No alcohol served. Small parking lot so get there a little before 11 am.

This place is only open for lunch, and expect a crowd, as it attracts the work crowd by the hordes. There is always a daily special, large enough to serve two. Great gumbo, po-boys, and red beans and rice. Served cafeteria style, the staff is courteous and this is a unique dining experience in downtown. Its tough to spend $30.00 for two, eating more food than thinkable.

Neat buffet style allows you to sample several dishes. My son had fried chicken and was in heaven. I enjoyed the gumbo and jumbolaya with fried okra. So good. Staff was happy and lots of people there for lunch. Great decor and ambiance. Only drawback: Not a lot of parking.

I could write a definitive positive review with this: Salmon Creole. If that's the only thing they served, you should go. In fact, the entire menu is excellent. The vegetable sides taste like Momma made them. I'm guessing somebody's momma did make them. If you go at lunch, expect a long line, cramped parking, and to need a nap in the afternoon. I assume Zydeco will be catering heaven's thousand year banquet. Go. You will not be disappointed.

So I have been driving past Zydeco for years, saying to myself, one day I am going to check it out. Well I finally did just that. It is a cafitaria style place and everything seams to be fryed. If that sounds apealing to you, then it is awesome.

I love this place.. daily lunch specials have a great variety of choices.. All dishes are prepared just like home cooking. It's a great location in downtown Houston with available parking.

Great place for some can soul food. This place has my favorite shrimp po'boy too. The inside is usually warm, but don't expect anything fancy. ;)

Went for lunch today here for the first time. I decided to try the crawfish etouffee with green beans, black eye peas and cornbread for $12.88 with drink and tax. Counter service was friendly and I enjoyed the meal. It was not the best etouffee that I have ever had but it was good and with the veggies which were very good this meal deserves 4 stars. I can see why this is a popular lunch spot during the weekdays. I wish it was open on the weekends or at night because it would be easier for me to eat here as I don't work downtown. For those of you who do, you are lucky. I hope to get back sometime in the future to try the stuffed porkchop or something else

I've eaten regularly at Zydeco's for well over 20 years and have never been disappointed. I've tried many of the different foods on the menu and haven't had a single item that was less than excellent in all these years. But I must confess that my favorite without a doubt is the stuffed pork chop. I’ve tried figuring out how they make it so delectable but was told the only way I’d find out is if I bought the restaurant (which isn’t happening). Words just can’t adequately describe the delicious flavor combination that envelops your taste buds when the pork chop, stuffing and the seasonings hit your mouth. It’s like heaven on earth and the jambalaya that comes with the pork chop is just as amazing. Just writing about these items is making my mouth water. The only downside is that the stuffed pork chop is only available on Tuesday & Fridays, but like I said there are plenty of other flavorful items on the menu from the etouffee to the baked chicken to the fried shrimp & catfish as well as the gumbo. Also, don’t discount the sides either, they’re just as tasty with the kick of Cajun seasoning.

No pretensions, this is a great down to earth diner, with well cooked food at reasonable prices. Way better value than a fast food franchise. Good atmosphere and good beer. If you're in Houston its well worth paying this one a visit

I had my third dined here at Zydeco last week end, and the experience has been consistently competent! I can confidently put this restaurant as one of the best food venue in town. We came here dinner with my office mates and was warmly by the staffs. Our orders were served even early than we expected. I commend all the employees for their quality service and for the cook who always gives us the best taste satisfaction! I would definitely not exchange this place that offers the same menu, Zydeco is already satisfying!

Louisiana Great! I enjoyed the flavor of the food. Enjoyed the Louisiana atmosphere was nice. Service speedy.

Zydeco is a great location for authentic down home southern cooking. Don't be put off by the line at the door; it moves quicly. Chalkboard lists the lunchtime specials as well as constant offerings. Favs are pork butt po'boy with remnants and the stuffed pork chop with dirty rice. Decor is authentic and not artificial like the chain Cajun restaurants that are common to Houston. Zydeco deserves a place in your lunchtime rotation!

Daily specials rotate throughout the week. Friday's stuffed pork chop is not to be missed! I side it with red beans and rice - yum! I've tried nearly everything on the menu (too many list in the review) and all have been great. I took my friends who grew up and lived in New Orleans to Zydeco's and they said it was the first Cajun-style restaurant they've been to that is authentic. If you're looking for a great place to eat downtown and are hungry you must try this place.

The place doesn't look like much but the food is great if you're looking for a taste of Louisiana in Houston.

Great food but a little too pricey. You do get a lot of food and they are always crowded around lunch time!

Quite tasty and a reasonable cost. You'll enjoy the intimate surrounding, have a good quick meal and get back to work on time.

The food was delicious. If it hadn't been for TripAdvisor, I doubt that I would have stepped inside. It's an informal cafeteria line with food served on styrofoam but the food kicks butt. I had the crawfish etouffe. Yum.

Do not let the slightly rough interior fool you, this is a real deal tasty cajun food joint. I have eaten here many, many times and have never been disappointed with my food or service. The food is authentic cajun and creole. I come from cajun country and have cajuns in the family so I KNOW cajun food. Try the special for the day, if you're uncertain of what to get. You will not be disappointed.

The food was so delicious! The crawfish ettouffee was to die for! Everyone enjoyed their entrees and we all sampled each other's plate. Everything was so fresh and the service was excellent!

The food is really good. service is nice. But its just in a not good area, you can see lots of homeless people around when you walk there

Zydeco is a great Cajun cafe and buffet. Reminds me of many of the small restaurants I used to eat at in Baton Rouge

This is the second restaurant of the Zydeco group. Matin J. Venable runs this one personally and it is the same great food you have been experiencing for decades on Pease St. but is in a much nicer and updated establishment at 1856 Barker Cypress out the Katy Fwy. Phone: 281-646-1356. The restaurant is only open for lunch. However, Marty does a huge catering business to the companies near him in the Energy Sector of Houston.

Hugely popular with a Line outside seemingly even before it opened. Very spacious inside with lots of tables, music playing. Line up and make sure you know what you want when you get to the counter, take your food or a number, and move along to pay, then find a table. Lots of choice, everything looked good. The Gumbo and Po Boy was excellent. Note to tourists, this isn't a place to dwell over a meal, order, enjoy and leave, there will be people waiting for your table.

For starters I have been ruined on Louisiana style food by neighbor who is a New Orleans Transplant. With that said this was great food, price was right and I highly recommend getting the Gumbo, Jalapeno Corn Bread and Green Bean side.

We've enjoyed coming here during the weekday for lunch and now it's open nights and weekends! Good for us downtowners who live here:) The menu has daily specials of down-home southern cooking. Cafeteria style, with some old Louisiana cajun style decor.

We arrived on a Thursday evening at about 7. The place had a handful of other diners. Upon initially looking inside you might think to yourself that it's not the place to dine. The tables are well worn (but clean) and in general looks like it might require an upgrade or remodeling. However, after entering, waiting in line and ordering, from a very patient man (manager or owner) we were pleasantly surprised. We had a party of about 17, and were able to push tables together to accommodate our group. Our orders were ready in a few minutes. Keep your receipt as it has your order number on it which they call from the kitchen window as your order is ready. The food was surprisingly good and reasonably priced. I had a fried oyster platter with fries and jambalaya for $16.99, and the dish was delicious with ample sized servings. I would return to this restaurant should I return to Houston.

We love eating here when I am downtown for hearings. Best Cajun in town! Can't wait for Crawfish season

This place is great with some really good authentic Louisiana style food. The gumbo is always good, and anything fried has a great taste. It may not be the healthiest of food, but it is dang good. They do have healthy choices tho of course. The po-boys are always a favorite for my co-workers and they are not small either. Give them a try and i am sure you will not be disappointed.

Located around the block from where I was staying I got the jambalaya, cornbread and red beans and rice to go. It was all Excellent. I was craving the jambalaya for the next two days but couldn't get back until Sunday and they were closed. Will definitely make it a priority next time.

This charming Midtown lunch venue is a true Houston treasure. The hearty fare is simply scrumptious as well as well priced.

The food isn’t even close to a decent meal in New Orleans but it’s not terrible “creole” food. It’s a little bland for my taste, like if Lubys had a creole section!

Was in town for a conference. Was a brisk 15 minute walk from hotel. Owner/manager was nice and personable. Cook came out and asked about our meal. Ate here for dinner. Food was excellent. 3 combo shrimp and oysters platters and one shrimp plate. Jambalaya was delicious. Food was fresh and tasted great! $16 per plate. Doesn't look like much from outside but clean and nice inside. Safe environment.

The oyster po-boy sandwich is quite tasty. It comes with homestyle fries. Medium priced for what you get. Cooked fresh when you order.

Good food and unique atmosphere. A real treat for a boy from West Texas

I have heard from many people how fantastic this spot is but could never go because it was only open for lunch Monday to Friday's. Well it is all its hyped up to be. We shared an oyster poboy with fries and a bowl of seafood gumbo. Service was great and food was even better. One of the best poboys I've ever had and the gumbo was top notch too. Now that it's open nights it will be the go too place for me!

Hubby took me here for a quick lunch this week, never been there before. He ate there on a regular basis when he worked downtown. The restaurant is open lunchtimes only but is well worth a visit. No frills but clean, good food and reasonably priced. I had a shrimp po-boy and was happy with the food. Bread very fresh, the shrimp perfectly cooked and the seasoning just right - not too much salt. Hubby got a bowl of gumbo and a bowl of jambalaya and I tasted both - really good. Well worth a visit if you like Louisiana style food - make sure to check out the specials each day. Staff were very friendly and service was FAST!

They were able to seat our large group of 12. 😊 You can order off the cafeteria line pay and have a seat or order off the blackboard. They give you and number...you pay and they call your number to pick up you food at the window. It was pretty quick! I had the stuffed shrimp with fries and jambalaya! Awesome jambalaya!!!! Others in our party had fish and chicken and everyone liked the food. Even my dad who is really picky like the fish and jambalaya!! It was a fun unique restaurant!!

Zydeco has cafeteria style dining and a lot of character. The food was excellent. I went at lunch time. They were serving oyster, shrimp, and catfish platters and po-boys. I asked the man at the register for a recommendation. He asked if I liked oysters and told me that they had started getting oysters again. I had to try the oyster platter. It came with about 10 large fried oysters, a side of fries, and chicken and sausage jambalaya. The oysters and jambalaya were outstanding.

So good you would think you are in Louisiana. It's in downtown Houston so parking may be an issue at times. Price is right for the quality of the food.

Good food, quick cafeteria style service. I've eaten there several times and the food has always been consistent. Just don't be expecting any table cloths.

Went for a work event and it was great!! I had just learned how to peel crawfish so I ate two containers!!! Yuuum!!! Definitely go again!

Great food. Old school kitchen serving line and at lunch times the nearby office workers can make for a little wait. Food is to die for, especially if you have history / experience with Cajun dining. When it is crowded, be prepared for your clothes to smell like good kitchen cooking after you leave.....which is not necessarily a bad thing!

Their food is always amazing. Etouffe, jambalaya, served cafeteria style and large seating. Not fancy but clean and very comfortable. I'm always up for a return trip to Zydeco's!! I miss working downtown and going here more often. :(
Great Cajun Food,,
Visited last week for first time and cannot wait to go back. The seafood gumbo was as good as anything you can get in New Orleans. Also had jambalaya, creole red beans, and jalapeño cornbread - all top notch. Well seasoned, real deal Cajun food with laid back, homey atmosphere. 5 stars hands down!
