Dujiangyan, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Chengdu, is renowned for the world-renowned Dujiangyan Irrigation System. Dujiangyan, formerly known as Guan County, is now divided into a new urban area and an ancient city. Despite the integration of modern commerce, a touch of ancient charm can still be found in Guan County's ancient town. Dujiangyan's greatest charm is its pleasant coolness even in the height of summer. Here, you can join the crowds, enjoy the river breeze at Nanqiao, drink beer, and experience the Sichuanese charm. You can also go to Hongkou to experience jungle adventures and thrilling rafting with the show "Where Are We Going, Dad?" Dujiangyan is a famous summer resort. Even during the sweltering heat of summer, Dujiangyan and the surrounding Qingcheng Mountains maintain a cool 22°C. Summer visitors can not only enjoy rafting in Hongkou but also catch the lively Summer Night Beer Festival, a carnival-like spectacle. For a cooler early summer, visit Dujiangyan during the annual Tomb-Sweeping Day to celebrate the grand Water Release Festival.
Dujiangyan's average annual temperature is around 15°C, making it a very pleasant place. The average temperature in July is around 24°C. Summer in Dujiangyan is pleasant, but it can be a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings, so pack a light, long-sleeved shirt. If you're visiting places like Hongkou Forest Park, pack something a bit thicker. It's best to check the weather forecast and bring an umbrella. The average temperature in January in Dujiangyan is around 5°C, so you only need to dress warmly and don't need to bring extra warm clothing.
Costs in Dujiangyan are low, primarily focused on entrance fees and accommodation. High-speed train and bus tickets from Chengdu to Dujiangyan are inexpensive, costing 15-17 yuan. Tickets to the Dujiangyan scenic area, which includes access to numerous attractions, are 90 yuan. Accommodation prices range from around 100-500 yuan per night. Dujiangyan is a small city with convenient public transportation, and even metered taxis are around 10 yuan. Dining options are 30-40 yuan per person for excellent, authentic local cuisine. Overall, 300 yuan is a reasonable budget for a day trip to Dujiangyan.
