At the beginning of the last century, Gesang Yundeng, a Living Buddha of Juli Monastery who came from a poor herder family, based his work on traditional Tibetan opera, absorbed the characteristics of the Batang Jianggaran School and incorporated a significant amount of local folk songs and dances. This resulted in the development of Muya Tibetan opera, characterized by its unique singing style and the use of both spoken and rhymed dialogue in the Muya language. The Waze Township Tibetan Opera Troupe is the only amateur Tibetan opera troupe in Kangding that performs year-round. In their performance of "Qiongda Hebuqiu," they not only use traditional drums and cymbals, but also incorporate traditional orchestral instruments and the Muya region's yak dance, adding a lively and joyful atmosphere.
