Beef, terraced red rice, and stewed pot wine are the main specialties of Yuanyang. They are sold in local fairs or markets. When you come to Yuanyang, you may want to buy some to take home.
To make dried beef, smooth-coated and evenly fat and lean beef is selected and slaughtered. The better lean meat is cut into strips, smeared with salt, chili pepper, Sichuan peppercorn, star anise, tsaoko flour and wine, marinated for one to two days, then strung on bamboo strips or thin arrow bamboo and hung above the kitchen or fire pit to be smoked dry for later use.
The Changjieyan Terraced Fields Red Rice comes from the famous Yuanyang Hani Terraced Fields. The cultivated area and yield are not large. It is a fine variety that has been cultivated by the Yuanyang Hani people for 1,300 years.
Yuanyang stewed pot wine is specially made, with clear and pure color and mellow fragrance.
