Great view of Emerald Isle from the water. We were thrilled to see jellyfish swimming around the dock. There were a few fishing off the pier - fun to watch. Honestly glad we didn't have to pay for parking, though. Go on a weekday if you are just checking out the actual pier.

By Cheryl M |

Pier tends to be crowded with people who have no fishing manners at all. If you like tangled lines and $12 per day for fishing with not much to show for it go here.

By TeflonChef |

First time visit, and enjoyed a great day of fishing. Staff was really nice and friendly. Caught 2 nice mullet. Will definitely go back.

By Blue B |

This is an amazing pier and is a must see when you visit Emerald Isle! I wasn't expecting it to be free to walk out on the pier because at other beaches they usually charge a small fee. I think this might be the longest pier I have ever been on and I love that you can go up to a high platform at the end of the pier. It was a great family activity especially at night when the whole pier and surrounding buildings are lit up!

By SharieN_13 |

The pier was very beautiful, I went at the peak of the day and it was sunshiny and just beautiful. The pier has little shelters to shade yourself if you choose, so you can stop and enjoy. There were a lot of people fishing and it is also a great place to people watch. Again, beautiful pier and day. When you exit the pier their are also picnic tables and feet showers so you can rinse off.

This pier is being updated, and it is the first pier on the East Coast we have ever visited we did not have to pay a fee to walk out on. Loved the fact that every few feet there is a very nice covered bench seat area to rest, this enabled us to take my 83 year old mother who has Alzhiemer's out on the pier with us - we could walk a few steps then rest. I was thrilled! The folks who operate the pier were extremely nice and helpful with giving a restaurant recommendation as well. Great place to just people watch, enjoy the view or even fish!

By David |

Took my son fishing for the day on the pier. We had to rent rods, rigs, bait etc. It wasnt expensive at all and the staff were super friendly. What a great day fishing!!

By Mandy H |

Plenty of room even when lots of people. Trash needs to be collected more often. Pier is clean and has lots of shade booths and places to fish off of. On our visit the jellyfish wash up was bad, walked about 300 yards and saw about 15 of all sizes. There is a store on the pier and lots of parking. Wash off area and porta potties available.

By janetseward |

We both loved to watch all the people fishing and catching all types of fish, listening to the stories they tolld

By DaniL T |

We love fishing from the pier, and the employees are always so nice, friendly and informative. It has GREAT views of the sunset

By Elngleburg |

This was a cool experience unlike a lot of other perks I have been to it was free to go onto the pier to look at the views and watch the fish being caught. Everyone had a great time

By Kelly C |

We always stop by the pier to see how the fishing is this time of year, and it's always a little different. You can walk out on the pier for free, but it costs to fish there. From the pier, you can usually see sharks and sting rays.

By Jon P |

Friendly staff, very welcoming and laid back. The 'store' is clean as is the pier - there is no charge to walk out and back. It's cool to see what's being caught. Just a chill, laid back place to spend some time.

By CFtripping123 |

Walked out on the pier watched a,half dozen Spanish mackerel and a few blue fish landed. Restaurant section under construction but looks like a great atmosphere for a bite to eat. Pier and shop were clean and staff griendly.

By rmrjbr |

Fun to walk out onto the pier for the kids to see farther into the ocean. Didn't pay to fish. Glad we were given free tickets, wouldn't have paid to walk out on the pier and back.

By brenda5214 |

We visit here every year, the kids love to fish off the pier. The fishing shop staff are very friendly and helpful when renting equipment/bait. Which was very reasonable on the pocketbook.

By stephanie b |

Went for a morning walk down the pier before we headed home and they even had free parking. Great views

By dawnl188 |

We hadn't been on the pier in many years, so went out one afternoon just to see what was happening. Not much was being caught, but there's an upper level at the end where you can watch the fishermen out to catch the big ones. We did see several rays go under the pier, one of which was at least 6 feet in diameter! It's really hot out there, so be prepared for the sun.

By Marysland |

Costs to fish no lic required. Rods for rent if you need it., but watching is free! Nice pier. Dogs allowed on beach only, not pier. Store, parking onsite.

By sean69873 |

Great pier to walk on and watch ocean, swimmers, and fisherman. People are very friendly and nice. Enjoyed my trip.

By Thomas B |

My son loves to fish so we went up to the pier to try it. We fished for a bit and my daughter decided she wanted to try too. We caught some fish! Other folks were friendly as were the people in the shop. Bring all your gear or rent it all if you don't have any.

By bchduty1 |

Great place to fish. Really nice people own and work at the Pier. Always a smile and a helpful hand. Landmark of EI.

By Hunter5035 |

Grandpa, son, and two grandsons fished for one night. Wonderful experience with lasting memories.
The seasoned fishermen at the end of the pier were catching Spanish and Blues. We only caught a few Croakers, Pinfish, and Spots. However, we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the business was stocked with an adequate supply of snacks, beer, bait, and fishing tackle. We plan on returning again next summer.

By Rossergirl |

I met my best friend and now husband of 31 years at Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier! It is my absolute favorite pier and holds a very special place in my heart! We walk the pier often!

By Kyla B |

Bogue Inlet Pier is a must see when in Emerald Isle. Our family makes several visits during the week of vacation each year. It is free to enter the pier, although there are signs that parking has a fee, we have never had to pay. It is fun to walk out and watch people fishing. We have witnessed sharks, jelly fish, and rays nearly every trip. You can pay to fish, and there is a small convenience store with ice cream, drinks, snacks, souvenirs and fishing tackle. There is a restaurant attached and clean restrooms at the entrance. It can be a busy place, but generally a quiet crowd.

By Carol L |

Friendly helpful staff. No charge to walk out on the pier. Nice shop. Staff were very professional when my husband was injured and needed medical assistance. Thanks for your quick response!

By thegrendels |

Construction makes this year difficult to get to. Parking is quickly especially on weekends. Great place to spend the day fishing, stop in launching, just enjoying the weather outside. Great improvements madeover the winter, it will be great when it's done completely. Start your morning routine every day while you're on vacation and the Emerald Isle area.

By Cass W |

great localle, wonderful staff, safe and clean. Always good fishing. great place for the whole familyto have a good time fishing, or just people and wildlife watching.

By Dixiekitten72 |

Nice long pier. No fee, absolutely free to walk out on. It was very breezy and cold at this time of year.

By 441paml |

I had a blast photographing on the pier on a beautiful and somewhat overcast Sunday afternoon. There was a breeze and clouds and a ton of people fishing and strolling on the pier. What a great afternoon. I will definitely return to capture more beauty and excitement!

By seeingallthesights |

We enjoyed walking down the pier and watching the fishermen. The observation deck at the end of the pier is a great lookout for a full view of the beach/pier - and even the sunset in the late evening! We visited on a cloudy day so the parking lot was empty, I would imagine during a sunny summer day spots would be limited.

By Kay F |

This is the place to visit for an evening sunset or just to walk over the ocean and see what is going on with the fishermen and the beach bums on the shore.

By justmewhoknew |

I bought a king pass and when I went back in the area they kept telling me I am not allowed back there and I am in the way. WHAT??? There were a total of 6 people and 2 were staff. And it clearly states you can float fish as long as rod was in hand. Again harassed and told was not allowed to.When I read them the sign with the rules that they evidently can not read then they told me well your fish bait was to big. Again WHAT??? I was using a 5 inch sea mullet. Come to find out 2 of the regular locals wanted the area I was in to cast gotcha plugs and I was in their way. PLEASE have your staff read your signs of rules before they speak I pay to fish there too. No more rather go up the road to the washed up pier toward Atlantic beach then fish around a bunch of local snobs.

By DianaBWakeForest |

It's a pier- what more can I say? There's a little convenience store at the entrance to the pier. The pier is pretty long, and quite crowded with fisherman.

By Charles & Anna M |

Great place to get a great view of the island and the ocean while sharing some ice cream. Watch what time you go though, at night it is fairly crowded with fishermen.

By jakerson9 |

Visited the Bogue Inlet Pier twice in the last week. Caught 4 fish each time - in about 2 hours of fishing each time. The Bogue pier is a great entertainment for kids and great way to learn patience. We saw sharks both times. We saw a massive sea turtle once, and saw some bottlenose dolphins once.
I'd recommend it. They have all the equipment, bait, and everything you need, and they offer good advice too.

If you already have rods/reels, etc, you can get a 10-day temporary license and a container of bait much cheaper from one of the local bait shops - and really - whatever is in the water at the pier is also in the water near the shore, but surf fishing is not for everyone.

All in all, I would highly recommend the pier. The people are very friendly, you can get everything you need for two people for about $25 or so - and it is lots of fun. Why not?

Amazing Pier and people and great 👍 fishing 🎣 This place is amazing 😉. The fishing is incredible. The staff is awesome 😎

By emtpcoble |

Took the wife out per fishing for her first time. BIP is a great pier that is well maintained. Friendly staff with reasonable prices. The parking was free this time of year. Great place to kick back and enjoy the ocean. Lots of fun people watching. Fish were little slow but that's fishing. We had a great day.

By Kathy G |

if you like to fish it is large fishing pier with a shop to get supplies,a relaxing day at sea with family,Close to a good restaurant across the street

By Strowd1 |

Great way to see the beach.
Classic oceanfront pier. Very clean. Well managed. No fee to walk the boards.

By hollijs01 |

We took a stroll down the pier and then decided to get my son a fishing rod. It was something to do to pass some time in the late afternoon. For 6 hours of fishing rod/reel/bait it was about $28.00. Nothing caught that day. The pier is nice and goes far out into the water so it's a nice stroll. The small shop at the beginning is nice and offers ice cream and snacks along with the rental fishing equipment. They were very friendly. Would have stayed longer, but not really any shade for fishing and it was a very hot day.

By Expatraveler |

Observe folks fishing and enjoy the ocean views. Friendly and welcoming staff. Hurricane Florence did some damage.

By Puppylick91 |

More should have been done to save the old piers on NC coast. Thank goodness the BIP still stands. My boys only want to stay near the pier. It's more than just fishinng, it's a hangout for teens, romantic walkway for couples and fishing for everyone. We love it!

By WendyDawnS |

Loved that it was free. The pier was longer than we expected which made for a pleasant walk but did were dodging fish hooks during the walk. We watched a storm rolling in making the waves larger than normal. The view from the lookout (at the far end) is amazing!

By RKniewel |

Great pier. It is free to walk on (make sure you have shoes on!). & you are almost guaranteed to see sharks swimming underneath the pier. So much fun

By sirjohnwhitcomb |

We enjoyed walking out on the pier and watching others fish. There is no charge to go on the pier. They also will rent everything you need for fishing. Everyone was friendly.

By Larry C |

I have pier fished from Chesapeake Bay to Key West and Bogue Inlet Pier is still my all-time favorite. It is a fishing pier with all the stink and barnacles that such a place demands. Secure parking, full service pier store, clean and well maintained, and very friendly staff.

By WOTUS |

I love this pier even though I don't fish. It extends farther than most piers and even has a second floor once you get to the end. It's wide and relatively clean with lots of seats. One certain days of the year the ocean is truly a beautiful emerald green, and there's no better place to see it than from this pier. It is free to walk on the pier and there's a nice little store and restrooms as you enter.

By bodyhealer21 |

This was my first time to Emerald Isle so chose to first view the beach from the pier & capture some photos. Great mix of people from young to old enjoying anything from relaxing, walking holding hands along the pier to those doing some serious fishing. I enjoyed watching the sharks below coming up to devour the fish timings being tossed over the edge as they trimmed up their catches. Beautiful beach & great pier!

By andersce |

I'm not a big fishing person, but the pier seemed to be fine for people that do. A lot of people were fishing when I was there. Everyone that was fishing seemed to be enjoying themselves.

By jsccrna |

A shark was sighted this past Monday and Tuesday right at the pier. Swimmers in and around the area be careful!!
Jelly fish were really bad too. The officials had warnings out already regarding them. They are notorious June-Nov anyway.

By Mike T |

Free to walk on the pier. Good place to check out the surf. Fun to go fishing on the pier with family and friends... Recommended

By KENNYandANDREA O |

A good fishing pier. Not much happening the nite we were there. We like to walk it before we leave the island.

By Laura L |

A lot of local fisherman that give you "cool" glances when you walk on just to enjoy the view. It has a bad odor and the boards are getting pretty worn down. They have been trying to open a restaurant for almost 3 years now, and not sure why it hasn't opened. Also, this restaurant would be great to have an outdoor oceanfront patio since there are so few on the island, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen either. New addition nor yet complete, but anxious to see how it turns out.

By christywill2006 |

Awesome love it! My husband and I took our 3 kids here. We enjoyed walking on the pier. Kids loved playing under the pier.

By GoogleEarth_Traveler |

Our family visits Emerald Isle on occasion, but when we are able to find a parking spot near Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier, we walk it. The parking is one price for all day and during the time of visit in June it was cash only since their machine was down $25. I think week days are free. Going on the pier is free which is nice, there's a charge to fish. The pier is real nice and there's a second level you can climb the stairs up to and during our visit we discovered a ton of cannon ball jelly fish. We were told they normally just stay at the end of the pier. Only other recommendation I would have other than a better parking system would be the gift shop to lower their prices. Most items are higher than normal, but they have a variety of items to choose from to where if you need a snack or drink it's reasonably priced. Perhaps all the additional costs go towards the pier maintenance.

By JoshJami |

Went to the aquarium first than stopped by the pier and walked all the way out to see what they were catching and here they were after the sharks swimming

By Cabo Lover |

We went out to the pier just for a walk and it was a great experience. Lots of people catching fish and we were lucky enough to see a Navy Destroyer not too far off the pier, a must do.

By dlscks |

We needed a rest. We had a fantastic walk on the beach to the pier sadly it was not open but we did get a drink in the bar and sat in the big window and could see!!!

By Jeanna R |

I am unsure is new or recently renovated, but it is really, really nice. Very long, observation deck area, free to walk out on, $12.50 to fish. We spent a long time just walking and watching and enjoying the breeze.

By mda0492 |

Great pier, great staff. I wish the parking area was a little more user friendly. I would recommend to everyone!

By Sue1655 |

OMG If you think “what’s so fun about a pier?” then you haven’t been out on the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier. It felt really secure even with a good storm blowing in. The shop was sweet and not over priced. Pier is free to walk on.

By sarahsmile7 |

Very long fishing pier. Nice little stop. Nothing else to do there, no shopping or restaurant. Watched surfers for a while.

By TideLifeMama |

We went to the pier one night and took all the kids. They were fascinated by all the people fishing off the pier and the fish they were reeling in. All of the fishermen were VERY nice and willing to show the kids what they caught, let them touch the fish and watch them clean and filet them. Everyone was in a great mood, everyone was extremely nice, especially to the kids who were very excited.

By Cora B |

I love to walk down the beach to the pier. You can get a packaged snack or drink and sit out on the pier to watch the fisherman. There are a couple viewing machines for a quarter. There are bathroom facilities, and rinsing off stations too.

By Butch B |

Although a little pricey, it is an excellent fishing pier with all the amenities. They had the bait and tackle we had forgotten at the counter, and even provided a few tips for us non locals. Went with my dad and son, and we had a great time although we caught nothing worth keeping. The crowd was all family friendly and nice, sharing advice and fish stories freely.

By Colleen C |

family lives nearby and the pier is a MUST stop every time. We either just walk it BUT most of the time we go for the fishing ~ kids love it. You have to get a day fishing pass and then spend the day fishing for spots, crockers, lizard-fish and even Sand sharks (which we through all back in). This is also a great place to take in the beauty of the local dolphins! OHHH and the beach is right there and parking seriously you can spend the day

By Lester E |

The fish are biting now that the water temp is dropping. I ought a few bluefish and a puffer fish. I seen some guys pull in a few Spanish and some spots. the pier house excepts cards as payment now.

By tazman1099 |

If you are in Emerald Isle, you have to walk down the fishing pier. It is free if you aren't fishing.

There is not a lot to do in the town, but this is an icon on the beach. It's fun to watch people fish, and you can often see sharks swimming under the pier.

The little shop at the beginning of the pier has a good beer special as well. Have a drink, and take a walk on the pier!

By Lisa R |

This is a very long and very nice pier. With a permit you can fish off of the pier. If you are going to go in the water, don't swim near the pier because there is a risk of sharks.

By T178JMwilliamc |

Great pier with friendly patrons and staff. A must visit for visitors in Emerald Isle!! In my opinion, it is the best pier I have visited on the East coast.

By jsullinssobova |

Had a great time on the pier and the beach. A very kind fisherman was hospitable to us and showed us a fish he caught and explained to us what a toad fish was.

By madmikeb60 |

It's a pier. What more do you want? It's free and good for a quick walk out over the water. Took my 5 and 7 year old girls out there. They were ready to leave within 5 minutes. Was very hot.

By Lickcreek |

No trip is complete without an evening of pier fishing or at least a long walk after dinner. A fun family atmosphere with nice and helpful staff and family focused people fishing.
It is also fun to fish during the day but it is hard to be out in the hot sun and it's a lot of fun at night. Go about 2200 when the tourist have left and fish till 0200-0300. Great night out. I have been doing this since I was a child which is over 40 years ago.

By Betty D |

Best place to visit & fish on NC coast. Owner & Staff try to help all My opinion is that A few people unfortunately CANNOT be helped so any negative views are unwarranted.

By Natisha H |

Loved the view and close proximity to our hotel room at Ocean View Inn!!! Environment was nice and everyone was friendly!!! Beautiful view!!!

By Grandmam2014 |

It is rare to have a decent, safe and affordable pier from which to fish the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. So many have closed and/or been washed out to sea from hurricanes. We at Emerald Isle are fortunate to have the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier!! For just a few dollars per day, you can fish from dawn to dawn. Also a great photo opportunity! Beautiful views of sunrise and sunsets. We enjoyed an early morning fishing experience watching a full moon set in the west and a sunrise in the east at the same time! Our elementary aged twin nephews visited and wanted to stay all day and night! All the fishermen were so friendly and helpful!

By Terra G |

This is a nice place with friendly staff. Nice long pier with great views at sunset. Free to walk out on. Our kiddo loves to pier fish and he had a great time!

By Christie S |

I love to go out on the pier near sunset and have a quiet moment to myself on one of the many benches.

By Terri S |

The new and improved Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier is wonderful! Patty is wonderful! The new building is awesome!

By herroyalhighness2015 |

Great place to indoctrinate your children into deep-sea fishing offshore! Family-friendly for decades; a survivor of hurricanes, in my family for centuries!

By Ellis G |

When we arrived at the beach on Friday, we of course hit up our favorite place at the circle for a drink. I had told my husband that as long as I've been coming here, I've never walked the Bogue Pier. We arrived just around sunset and fell back in love with coming to the beach! Beautiful Sunsets

By BJPack |

Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier is part of the beautiful town of Emerald Isle, NC. Great fishing - yes...AND. it's.also just a wonderful short walk from numerous restaurants and shops. The pier is a great spot for viewing the pristine beaches and sunbathers, surfers, dolphin watching or just relaxing and listening to the surf.

By honase |

The walk out on the pier was free and interesting. It was a nice view and we watched the people fishing for a bit. Was a nice way to spend 30 minutes but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

By Penny C |

My family rented a house a half-block from the pier, and we walked over to the pier at least twice a day while we were there. It is very clean and well-kept, there are plenty of places to sit, and the staff were very friendly. We didn't actually fish, so I can't speak to that, but there were plenty of people of all ages who were fishing and having a great time.

By Brian C |

This is a great place to visit. Go to the end of pier and you will most likely see some sharks swimming around. It's free to walk out there. Can fish all night for a small fee.

By Southie61 |

Great place to take the kids for a day of fishing! It's possible to catch almost ANYTHING from this pier! King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, Flounder, Drum.... the list goes on and on. Also a great place for Dolphin watching and photography. Caution: BRING SUNSCREEN! There are sheltered areas on the pier but the summer sun can be pretty harsh. Running water and fish cleaning station along the pier make it perfect...

By midnightryder |

Very nice views, you usually get to see people catching fish, very nice people running the shop inside, dont leave town without a stroll down the pier

By jmpowell264 |

we stayed in 205, great ac, could see the ocean from our room over the campers fridge was great, coffee maker, fishing

By Kimberly H |

This pier is a little more costly than most but I caught more fish here than I did in Kure/Carolina beach. I purchased a fishing pole from the surf shop & it broke about 2 hours later but the staff were great & replaced it without any hassle. They carry cigarettes, beer, drinks, coffee, bait, lures, just about anything you need to fish. It was nice inside. There is also a bar & grill that has good food at good prices. This was our first visit but we are now looking for a place to buy down there & also getting our season passes. I’m hooked; literally! Pier was packed but everyone was considerate, friendly, & willing to help. I had a blast! We will be back very soon.

By Stephenie S |

Free family activity and great place to watch the waves roll in. Bonus is watching the local surfers ride the waves and see what the fisherman are hauling in...

By Stacey R |

We enjoyed walking out on the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier. The views are amazing. The observation deck allows you to get some awesome pictures of Emerald Isle. This is an experience not to be missed when visiting Emerald Isle.

By Lester E |

We came out to see how the pier looked after repairs from last years storms. We like to walk the pear and see what people are catching. It was a great day to walk the pier... the rain held off. We got a coffee and some snacks at the pier house. It looks great.

By Vicky H |

Wonderful views, great place to fish, or just walk on. Not a place to miss if you visit Emerald Isle

By DaveVWV |

I think I was think California style pier when we said we were going to the peir. In So Cal piers have shops and resturants along wit fishing. This one is just fishing although fun to walk and see the ocean.

By Craig L |

Always nice to walk on the pier. Not much of a fisherman myself but enjoy watching others pulling them in. Great view of the island.

By BankerLady123 |

Husband is the fisherman in the family. He left this morning at 4:30 am and return at 8 am to eat and then returned to the pier to stay until noon. He listed off lots of fish that he caught (I don't eat the stuff - so not much of it registered. He seemed happy with his visit to the pier, and I am sure he will go back again tomorrow.

By Jonathan W |

My son and I went for a walk out on the pier on a beautiful, windy day. There's an observation deck at the end with great views of the surf, people fishing, surfers and the beach. Lots of different types of people were there. It's free! Make sure to bring shoes. With the rough wood and lots of people fishing, shoes are required.

By C L |

I love fishing piers and this one is no exception -- it's long with an observation deck at the end; there are locals there fishing, couples walking, people just standing and looking at the water -- it's awesome. I'd go there every day if I lived close by!

By Samantha B |

Such a nice pier. Went during off season and it was free to walk out on the pier and just spectate. The have a bar and restaurant but we did not try it.

By Kайл із Колорадо |

If you hang around long enough, you'll get to see the game of "cat and mouse" played by the local sharks and fishermen. The Sharks try to steal bait from the fishermen's lines and the fishermen try to save their bait for the game fish. It's a good show in and of itself but you also get the benefit of watching surfers catching waves and training flights buzz by at low altitude from the a Marine Corps air station nearby. A nice place to take in some scenery and action.

By Laura F |

I love to walk out to the end and listen to the waves and the birds. I do not fish, but there are lots of folks that do. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

By Vince B |

Nice free access pier. Lots of fishermen. No where to buy a drink or snack but the are building a restaurant at the end of the pier on the beach side. Plenty of benches to take a break. In great condition.

By Beachfeets |

This is a must stop. We always come here to fish. The guys behind the counter always point out the best bait for the day and all of the other fisherman are friendly. No creepy people lurking. Just a great family hangout.

By Bill21730 |

My sister in law and nephew had a great day fishing there, catching a lot of fish. They fish in Canada and love the pier.

Later we came back and had a nice evening watching fisherman and enjoying the breeze. Great place!

By Daniel J |

Definitely check it out but this isn't a restaurant it's simply a nice long pier that you can buy beer and snacks at more like a gas station at the entrance but without the gas!

Great views and beach access

First date? Yes it's something different
Comfort food? No - no kitchen
Kid friendly? Yes

By Pamela G |

This is a very relaxing, and beautiful place. You can watch people fish and most are friendly and share information on their catch. You can get your fishing license here, and also enjoy your days of fishing. People are friendly. Lots of information. Access there also to the beach. Great place to walk, and enjoy the atmosphere. Your can purchase bait, snacks. A must place to go. In the evening watch the sunset, morning watch the sunrise. You can also watch the wind surfers, and ocean surfers. Look for different kinds of fish especially after fish cleaning the sharks come and visit.

By ncsu83 |

We used the Bouge Inlet Fishing Pier as our starting point for our walks. The parking was free the Thursday before Memorial Day, but $15 Memorial Day Weekend. Walking on the pier was free. There is a nice elevated view at the end.

By 462World_Traveler |

The fishing pier on the Bogue Inlet is well worth visiting. It is an excellent place to fish. Additionally there are fantastic views from the pier. Since the beach is located East-West you can get some great camera shots of both the sunrise and sunset. The area around the pier is also a great beach. The entire family will enjoy this location

By christinan474 |

Although we didn't catch much, it was a pretty clean and safe place to fish all night. Price to fish wasn't bad at all. My only complaint is the owners should go through at least every other day to hose down the rails due to folks cutting up bait. Just to keep the smell down.

By cyeager52 |

I love an early morning walk on the pier to enjoy the beautiful ocean views. And to peek into the fisherman's buckets to see what they have caught. There are benches all along the pier where you can sit for a moment and enjoy the view and a cup of coffee.
I think the restaurant and shop might still under construction.

By P3690MHbrendas |

We didn't have out fishing poles, but walked to end of pier to watch everyone fish. It was a lot of fun and nice benches to sit on and enjoy the day!

By zamboni_chick |

Very nice & clean pier! Lots of action with fisherman both old & young & plenty of visitors. Loved the experience & our kids did too!

By Mark P |

I have been fishing here for years, along with my kids. Now, you may not always catch a ton of fish, but then again I really just love seeing the beach. For the reviews I saw offended by the "trailer park", I would say you may just be too upper crust for us down to earth folks that frequent Emerald Isle. I like the quaintness of the area and local places.

By Melonie24 |

Beautiful beach. Free parking during the week. $15 on weekends. Gets pretty busy and not as family friendly on weekends VS weekdays.
Stay away from the pier! The fisherman cut their lines and i have seen people get "caught" in the hook!
There are port o johns, showers (outdoor) and a store if you have forgotten anything. Very friendly people in the store as well. :)

By chryso2013 |

The Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier is a very nice pier and seemed as if it was the hub of activity in Emerald Isle. They are redoing the pier, so parking was a nightmare during the day. We returned later and were able to find a parking space. It's free to walk out on the pier. People were friendly, and there's a double decker at the end of the pier that provides beautiful views. We enjoyed our visit to the pier even though we didn't fish. The pier is nice, and I don't know what they are doing to it to remodel, but I did feel safe on this pier. Fishing piers don't always provide me with that feeling. I don't think anyone would be disappointed by visiting this pier, except for the nightmare of finding a parking space right now. Apparently, that will be resolved soon because the remodeling will be finished. I'm sure at that point, this pier will deserve a 5 star rating!

Each year we visit Emerald Isle we must go to the pier to watch all the activity there! I have always found dolphins swimming off in the distance at the end of the pier. I get great photo's of the people surfing the waves too! If you are lucky you may even see a shark when the fishermen throw their scraps over the dock and the sharks come to eat the scraps. We love to take photo's under the pier they come out the best!

We were staying at Islander about 1.3 miles down the beach, and saw this pier every morning when we were on beach. We decided to walk down and back, and the one mistake we made was not wearing shoes. You can't walk the length of pier without shoes, and I should have known better, duh. We still had a nice time, we got some inexpensive Popsicle treats, complete for just .50 a pop and they cut the top off for you! We had a seat, and watched what we could. After dinner, we made a trip back, walked all the way down, and managed to see some sharks on left side swimming near surface about where the fish chum goes into the water. It was a beautiful view of ocean, surfers, and cool to watch people fish. We may have tried if we had more time on the Isle.

Enjoyed the beach/pier with our family in July. The beach is beautiful and wasn't very crowded - but extremely windy when we visited (only a heavy duty beach umbrella will survive). We walked down the pier and saw some of the fishermen's catches (including a baby shark before it was thrown back). All folks are very friendly and the views are great. FYI - No fee to park during the week.

By piratejosh76 |

Sure the fish weren't biting, but what a nice place. The breeze was nice, the views great. The shop was undergoing renovations and so they didn't accept credit cards. The parking lot was also limited due to the construction. Once that is done, it will be great.

By I5594VWmichaelb |

Ok - Pretty standard fare as Piers go. Fishing was paramount, and the folks on the pier were hardcore, veteran fishermen. Overall a safe nice place to visit and great views.

By Cr8Memories |

Crowded and cheap looking. Grossly overrated. Next to a trailer park. Paid parking. Not much to do. Don't waste your time.

By SerenaFM |

We used this as our turnaround point on the daily walk along the beach. It is a cool lookout & even on windy, rainy days there were several folks enjoying it.

By MKC |

Hubby and I arrived a bit early to check in to our motel, so we took time to visit the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier. It's easy to find on Emerald Isle, and parking is free on M-F. If you want to fish, you have to pay (or many people buy a pass if they come regularly), but just walking down the pier and enjoying the view is free. A 24-hour fishing pass is $10, and apparently you don't need a license to fish there. There's a raised platform at the very end with a gorgeous view back to the beach below. I loved watching the waves from the other side. Benches and some covered seating is available all along the pier. Lovely way to pass some time!

By kttraveler2015 |

The women who worked in the shop at the pier were super friendly and made us feel welcome. Great views from the pier, especially the observation deck. And NO CHARGE to walk on it!

By Maryann H |

If you're anywhere near Emerald Isle, be sure to visit the pier. We saw lots of fish being caught by young, old - all having fun. Also saw jelly fish (ewhh) and two sharks. Definitely worth the short walk to get out and have another view of the ocean,

By WVBSCD |

The pier is free to access. We didn't fish but enjoyed seeing the catches of the fisherman. We were able to see a couple of small sharks in the water.

By davidandkat |

Very nice pier, great little Shop for snacks. The kids had a wonderful time walking out looking at sharks and watching the fishing.

By a41073 |

We don't fish on the pier, we just like walking to/on them and staring out into the ocean. Things have changed.

I don't remember the last 1/4 of the pier being reserved for fishing only. There is an observation deck for those who just want to sit and be. BUT ladies, it is pier, and there are people underneath you. Just so you know.

We walked from the beach to get onto the pier and was informed that you had to wear shoes on the pier. Wasn't like that last time but thankfully they had flip flops for purchase...... and beer. (mmmmm beer)

By 838yvonnes |

Go here as often as I can. I live about 15 min. from the pier on the mainland. I have always enjoyed walking on the pier and chatting with people from all over and seeing what every one is catching. Folks at the pier house are always friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They are renovating the pier this year and fixing to open a restraunt next to the pier. Lots of parking but I think it cost $10.00 to park there. Well worth it to have beachfront parking, bathrooms, and somewhere to eat. Downside is it gets very crowded on the weekends.

By BigDinNC |

I have been going to this pier for over 20 years now and I love going now more than I ever have. The people that own and run it are some of the best folks u will ever meet. I have been on a lot of piers and beaches over the years but this 1 always brings me back. It truly is like 1 big family from the staff out to the fisherman. I highly recommend stopping in if only for a quick walk down to the end where they have another elevated level just for looking out over the water and pier. It is well worth it. Me and the family will be back in a few weeks and my wife can't hardly wait.

By Jack L |

We just traditionally stroll the pier and see what is being caught. It is always enjoyable and spurs by intent on surf fishing.

By OhioOggy |

We visited the Bogue Inlet Pier twice during our stay at Emerald Isle. The first day was pretty cloudy and the sea was rough. The second time we enjoyed a beautiful sunset and a much calmer day.

We saw a shark the first day just briefly but the second time we went we saw two spinner sharks. This made our trip and affirmed that I have no interest in going in the ocean ever again. My daughter loves sharks so this was an excellent way to see them, thought still a bit unnerving for me.

The pier is free and the sign on the parking lot said parking free today (both days we went). I'm guessing that it is free on the off season.

If you have young kids keep an eye on them and don't let them stray too far. I'm not typically paranoid (except about sharks) but it is a long drop and a kid on the railing could take a tumble quick. Also keep them from standing up on the benches or climbing the railings; the pier staff don't allow it.

It's a great experience. Don't forget to go under the pier on the beach. It is kind of a neat view into the water.

By Shawnna M |

It was a nice walk out on the pier but it's probably more fun if you're actually fishing from it. It was crowded and I felt like a fish hook would hit me at any moment. Didn't feel comfortable walking through with my little ones.

By M P |

Nice pier catering to fisherman. The entrance takes you thru a little gift store to access pier. Day time may require a parking fee but the evening it was free. Small fishing station for cleaning along pier too.

By Maryanne P |

Heard about this pier so it was a must to walk it. The family found it very exciting and enjoyed the fisherman bringing in all the large fish. My 10 year old grandson was fascinated by when someone caught a small shark. It was an interesting adventure. The view under the pier is pretty nice also. There is a donut shop just before you walk out on the pier with yummy donuts.

By MomR |

The Pier rents out all fishing equipment and sells bait needed so you don't have to pack any supplies to have a great day. We caught fish the entire time we were there and my niece's red drum catch was nearly lost to two circling sharks. Very memorable!

By theseaforus |

Not too much in life is free, this beautiful historic fishing pier is. Take a stroll, see what the fishermen are catching, take in the beauty of Emerald Isle.

By TNorla |

Very well maintained and updated facility. The store is the best I’ve ever seen on a pier. Good fishing or just viewing location .

By MaryWM |

We went for husband's Bday - he wanted to spend it fishing and had a great time. No great fish in the water but caught and released a number of small sharks and sting rays.

By Joyjoy81960 |

Been there for sunrise and sunset views are always sensational. I go for the views. But there are always tons of folk fishing easy access and parking.

By Todd S |

It's a pier that goes out to the ocean that you can walk or fish from. There's lots of them like this one, so it really doesn't stand out as spectacular. If you're in the area, check it out.

By Garry M |

This a good place to fish or take a stroll. I liked the length of the pier and it is a good way to get to see the ocean,

By Grandna W |

We enjoyed enjoyed watching the fishermen and surfers. Great view from the pier. We ate lunch at the Cafe. Food was good but a little expensive.

By DENNIS B |

Visited the pier twice, once in the am the next on the evening. Very crowded both times. It’s nice to walk on but to many people fishing and too close to each other within 3-4ft. Most of the fish caught are at the end of the pier where you pay more and the local fishermen have there rigs out early in the am. So there in no room .

By 56OHIO2015 |

pier was really nice walked out and back and walked the beach , parking was just steps away. Not many on the beach was nice to stroll around and wander under the pier. Oh and seeing what I thought was a shark was pretty cool,

By grannykcm |

Really nice pier, especialy since they have done some major repairs. Love the new benches in the center of the pier.Very comfortable.

By H2O360 |

The pier is always a busy place but also a place to come and just relax and enjoy the views and sounds of the sea. The renovations are beautiful!

By Panthermomof2 |

We got to see a couple of sharks swimming around the guys fishing off the pier. For a girl from Ohio...it was pretty cool

By CLS0214 |

We took a walk to the pier from a nearby hotel and it was neat to see up close from the bottom. We also took the car later and parked behind the building and walked out on the pier--got to the top tier the view is great all around. Was a must do in while in the area

By Angela P |

To many ads take away from the views. It seemed to get rough and rowdy by sundown and not a place to fish or teach the love of fishing to children. The bathrooms were long lines and not kept up. Nothing much being caught. Now the end is all reserved for king fishing.

By Anne H |

We visited the Bogue Inlet Pier with a friend on our recent trip to Atlantic Beach. What a delight!! My husband is an avid fisherman and while this pier is not as long as his favorite in SC, it comes close!! Firstly, this pier is well equipped with inside bathrooms (a must for us!!) a large drink and snack/sandwich/drink case and a vast amount of fishing bait, equipment, etc. The cost is a bit steeper than most piers that we have visited, but there is free admission for walkers and non-fishers and, unlike some piers, two rods are allowed. Another downside is this is a cash only operation, but an ATM Machine is available to obtain cash for those who use a credit card on vacation, as we tend to do. The pier itself is wide, has a great fish cleaning spot and a few side shelves for measuring and knife use as well as covered seating up and down for those who seek shelter from the sun or wind. Emerald Isle is a perfect location for fishing and the view from the upper deck of the sound and ocean is simply breathtaking. We loved our day at this pier so much that we returned for a bit of after dinner fishing (as all night fishing is good with your day's pass!!). I highly recommend it for non-fishers like myself also...sit, read a book, take in some sun, and people watch to your heart's delight...and the people here are extra friendly and the staff are super helpful!! We will be back!!

In Emerald Isle at the end of Bogue Inlet Drive is a great fishing pier that stretches out into the Atlantic. Its been in operation for the past 50 odd years and I've been going there with my family for the past ten.

If you want to just walk onto the pier, stretch your legs and walk to the end to enjoy the views, thats free of charge, but if you want to fish, which is what most people head to the pier for, then
entrance is $10 for the day, for each person that is fishing over the age of 6 years old. That allows you to have two fishing rods on the go at any one time. As that's for the whole day its very reasonable as although there are no guarantees, you do have a very good chance of catching fish, especially if your there in the mackerel season. In my opinion its the next best thing if you are down in Emerald Isle on vacation and you don't have access to a boat.

Fish for bait fish in the surf area and for Cobia, Spanish and King Mackerel down the far end of the pier with either live bait or "Gotcha" plugs which you can buy from the store situated at the entrance to the pier. Cold drinks, sodas, beers and snacks are available at reasonable cost, as well as various fishing tackle products if you need them. They even have a rod and reel rental possibility if you turn up without your fishing equipment. Various bait is also available so you can theoretically just turn up and play. Bathrooms are also provided.

Most people on the pier seem very helpful and advice is freely given in the common cause of catching fish.

If your a dedicated fisherman or a family looking for an afternoons activity for the kids, this is great place to come and spend a few hours and have fun.

By BernieNewBern_NC |

Great spot for entertaining grandson! Walked the pier in afternoon, had supper at local restaurant, then came back and fished for a couple of hours after sunset.

By David D |

We stopped at the Bogue Inlet pier and were able to relax immediately on the beach beside the pier. This is a “multi-use” area, so mind the jeeps, trucks and cars motoring on the spacious beach. It is fun to watch the surfers on either side of the pier, and mind the fishing lines from both the pier and shore fishermen. Plenty of young folks, families, and couple strolling the beautiful beach. Enjoy!

By pamelabD9213LP |

Wonderful beach! Nice and wide. Great Pier to walk on or to fish off. Plus excellent Italian Ice!
Parking is a bit steep at 15.00 per car, but well worth it for family fun!
This beach was enjoyed by our entire family, from 3 months to 62 years!
Definitely a place to return!!

By CarrieF1984 |

The first thing I loved about this pier is that its free to walk on and it's open to the public. You get amazing views when you walk out to the end of the pier, especially up on the observation deck. It's absolutely breathtaking especially if you are there long enough to watch the sun go down. One thing I took note of is the wind. Even if you visit the pier in the summer, the constant wind blowing can make you feel chilly if you are there in the evening. I loved it and will visit again the next time I travel down there.

By Vanessa S |

It's free to walk out on and watch people fish or just check out the beautiful coastline. Some piers cost even to walk on, but this one doesnt. The parking lot leaves something to be desired though. It's very tight parking. If you are there to fish, it's comparable to other piers in the area.

By Bob G |

Had a ball there! The locals can be a bit possessive of their spots, but are very friendly when you follow the rules!

By Elizabeth M |

We walked on this pier today and it had a great view and was clean. They had a nice shop on the inside. We saw a few people catching fish on our walk down. I haven't fished from it yet but I look forward to trying it out sometime.

By Sarahmedlmt |

This is a nice 30 minute stop for those not interested in fishing and want to just check it out............the place was packed for those that were fishing. There is a fish cleaning section, ample wood benches and a $10 fee (free for non fishing). Parking was free and yes there is a trailer park next to it (not the only place) but its a travel trailer park NOT a mobile home park and if it was...so what?

By MrsMoo82 |

Best fishing fun our family has enjoyed anywhere. Love it that we can walk out on the pier free. Reasonable fishing fee. Folks working there are friendly and helpful; folks on the pier were, too. Beautiful, clear water and clean beach. Looking forward to a return trip!

By Lynn L |

This was perfect. We were able to rent all of the fishing necessities and buy a license as we walked out on the pier. Pretty convenient when traveling without all of that! My daughter loves to fish and it kept her busy and entertained for a lovely evening. She caught 4...we weren't sure what they were. I enjoyed watching the surfers in the water, people watching and the open air.

By mcqkm |

The pier has been around for quite some time.
The far end of the pier is reserved for King and Spanish mackerel.
You'll find everything you need to get your hook wet!
Pier can become very busy.
Fun!

By vballqueen24 |

This pier has a wide variety of food for all ages and is well priced. The staff were quite attentive and suggested this amazing death by chocolate cake to try. Very good!

By MikeHammer |

This pier is conveniently located on Emerald Isle. Lots of great fishing on our trip. We're average fishermen, but we caught blues on every cast one day. Caught sea mullet, trout, Spanish mackerel, sharks and some nice sun. Stop and get fresh shrimp. It works much better. They sell gotcha plugs for the bluefish at a reasonable price. Ask them what color. The staff will be glad to help you.

By karlee f |

What an amazing place!
You do have to pay $5/hour for parking, but can get your ticket validated for 1 hour if buying ice cream/gelato at Sunset Slush or 2 hours if eating at the restaurant.
Sunset Slush has THE BEST milkshakes of all time! GREAT frozen ice and REALLY GOOD ice cream!
We did not eat at the restaurant.
Although fishing here will cost you $15 per person for the day, it's a lovely atmosphere and much easier than fishing in the surf from shore.
I don't even want to write this because I want to keep it a secret for our own family, but 4th of July here was amazing! You could see fireworks North and South for what seemed like miles!
We also enjoyed just coming and watching others a fish.
A must stop if on the Island!

By L84Sure |

We always visit the pier before we head home from Emerald Isle. It's the best place to watch surfers, you can pick up some fishing tips and you can't beat the photo ops. We always see a shark or two and it's great for people watching too.

There's a nice little surf shop and a remolded Bar and Grill but we go for the stroll down the pier, the great salty air and the entertaining characters.

By James H |

I recommend the Bogue Inlet Pier to guests staying at La Casita. The Bogue Inlet Pier is about 15 minutes from Swansboro. Families enjoy a quick trip to the beach and taking a walk out on the pier. Going to take a free stroll on the pier is a great arrival day activity. Kids of all ages love the views, watching the people fishing and watching the people playing in the surf. There is free beach access at the pier with showers. So, don't forget the towels, beach chairs, umbrella and boogie boards!
Best of all is that on the weekdays parking is free and walking out on the pier is free. I recommend that my guests buy a snack while at the pier to help with the upkeep of this Crystal Coast landmark and destination!

By mec46 |

There is a beautiful view from the pier and watching the fisherman was fun. No charge to walk on the pier, which is nice. Bring your camera, it's an excellent place to capture a shot of the beach!

By MamaHilton |

One of the nicest piers around. Well worth the visit! We try to visit every time we are are near the pier. Great to see so many fisherman and the great catches. You can see forever! Great spot for pictures, too!

Well maintained, nice place to go to watch the sunset or enjoy a cup of coffee. Lots of people say it's a great place for fishing as well!

By boogaloo94 |

Sightseeing afternoon walk about on the pier. Nice breezy time spent walking along pier, not seeing much fish actually caught. Most seem to grab the bait and go. lol Endless view of beach so beautiful!! Great benches to for sitting down a lil while. VERY CLEAN and UNLITTERED pier. THANK YOU!!

By Chris S |

I have been to multiple places along the East Coast known for their piers. Every time in the last 10 years I have been to one, it costs to go out and just walk on the pier.

Not here!

A pier is a pier, I mean really. But the fact that it's you can just walk out, watch the people fishing, enjoy watching the waves and the birds...what a great way to spend an afternoon.

They have a little shop at the front of the pier and the staff was friendly. Wonderful, laid back attraction!

By Beverly G |

My husband and I stopped by during the winter months and thoroughly enjoyed our meals! The spicy shrimp are a new craving for us! We'll be there often

By Lauren H |

It's free to walk the pier, but if you enter from the beach take some type of footwear with you. They don't allow bare feet on the pier. They chum the water, so you'll probably see some sharks.

By kentuckyvacationeer |

Love everything about this area. Will move to the island someday. Very friendly place to visit and nice and clean.

By Caroline K |

Beautiful and serene, even while busy we still enjoyed tremendously. 20 dollar all day parking , water is clear and very swimmable. Pier is nice to walk on a watch the sunset. Good fishing spot if your so inclined. Had an enjoyable visit. Didn’t explore the store on the pier even though it’s very convenient. Next time

By Anna E |

Caught variety of fish . Beautifull sunet and sun rise views . All age groups of kids had a good time , 5 year olds and under fish for free .

By suescoggins |

In the summer, this spot is trashy and way over crowded. Fall is the best time and actually nice to fish from.

By Janice1958245 |

I visit Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier about once or twice a month. Everyone is always friendly there and the view is beautiful. Of course the best time is when the fish are running!

By Crcb |

We are not fishermen, but we still enjoyed this pier about 5 miles from the western end of the island. The views are spectacular, especially at sunrise and sunset.

By Stephanie H |

Nice pier with rows of benches the whole length of the pier. Didn't catch much but the staff is friendly, the view is nice and it's a well kept pier. Some food and drinks are offered but beware they only accept cash!

By Ron H |

Had been looking forward to visiting this fishing pier for a long time. Was excited after reading many favorable reports as well as being a die-hard pier fisherman. Sorry to say, we were met generally with unwelcoming arms.

First, I am well aware the actual pier itself has absolutely nothing to do with the quantity or quality of the catchin'. That's why they call it fishing, instead of catching. But when you ain't catching, AND the staff is generally non-caring, well, it just made for a not so good trip.

The end of the pier, 'King and Spanish Mackerel Fishers ONLY', was segregated by a gate. a fence and 'don't you DARE come out here' attitudes. To fish that area for said species, you get to pay extra (basic admission is $12/day) and you apparently must meet the approval of the end of the pier residents, most of whom appeared to be locals. (with attitudes.)

Then there's the old guy who patrolled the pier, asking for everything you might have caught. "Just wanna give it to people who can't catch any", was his standard line. He'd even help you unhook your catch, then glare at you if you didn't give it to him.

Then, let's see', oh yeah, the night shift staff that spent most of her time on the phone, or chatting with friends at the desk. Customer service? Not on your life, especially if you wanted to ask a question. So, did you and your friends ever decide what type pizza to order while I was waiting to buy a soda?

Hmm, what else, oh yeah, then there was the guy (staff) who chased me down the pier (literally!!!) to ask me how much coffee I put in my travel mug! He then, in no uncertain terms, explained that 'full' cups were $2, top-offs were a $1. But he'd let me go 'this time' since he thought I 'might' have taken more than a top-off. But don't let it happen again. Goof grief!!

Fishing generally was pretty good a couple of days, so-so a couple days and non-existent a day of two. But, like I said, the pier can't manage the fish.

Other tidbits; ah, bathrooms! At least the Men's stunk to high heaven. And for all the business the pier generates, there was just one urinal and one toilet, about 8 inches apart. And there's ONE sink for the two bathrooms.

Also to note.....CASH transactions only, as I was reminded several times! Folks, this is 2015, not 1950. You're costing yourself sales, believe it or not, if you don't accept plastic.

Surfers....I was actually a surfer, obviously in my younger days. But I heeded warning signs around piers and respected encroachment distances. Folks surfing near BIP could apparently give a rats posterior about the fisherpersons on the pier. I noted several less than polite exchanges when a surfer was reminded about the 300 foot limit from the pier for surfing activities. And obviously, the Bogue police have more donuts to eat, than to worry about near fist fights between fishers & surfers.

I kinda enjoyed my 3 day sojourn to BIP, maybe, sort of? But, doubt I'll return. I don 't need to be chased down a pier over a dollar; nor do I like being treated like the local village idiot when asking something a 'local' would already know.

You obviously have a gold mine here. Mr. Stanley. But you'll not see anymore of my shekels. Sorry.

By ccaraballo |

We loved to watch the people fishing at night. Good to have a walk during the day and night. It was so nice to walk all the way to the end and enjoy the views. Very peacefull. Great to take pictures on the pier and also under the pier.

By Yevgeniya K |

#1? No way, maybe #3 or 5. It was nice, long, but way too much advertising all along the walk in the middle. Kinda blocking the view. Lots of people fishing, saw few of them got a small fish. We came to see a shark and we saw it! Huge one. Apparently there were 4 that day, but we saw only one.

By Shawn B |

The pier is clean and long. I did not fish but saw a good amount of fish being caught. Spaces fill up quick.

By Doc1199 |

This is a tough review...it's a fishing pier. It's clean, large, staff is nice, and helpful. We fish here twice a year, in the summer it's 24 hours for $12., bait is inexpensive, several fish cleaning stations and places to sit out of the sun. Can't wait for them to open the restaurant.

By only4tiff |

Love visiting the Pier while on vacation in Emerald Isle. Taking pictures under the pier makes for some beautiful pictures. There are always lots of people fishing on the pier. There is no restaurant here but they do have a litle store where you can purchase drinks or snacks. I loved walking out on the pier and watching the fisherman and people surfing the waves. A must see while visiting the area.

By LisaVidMal |

We went here after breakfast, just to walk the peer on a Thursday morning. There is a little store that you walk through with souvenirs, beach toys and fishing gear, drinks and snacks. On this day parking was free. There is also a restaurant right next door to the entrance to the peer. There are covered sitting areas along the peer to get out of the sun and also open benches if you need a break on the way down the peer. Tons of places to rish off the peer also.

By UngavaNC |

Visited the pier today after a long walk on the beach nearby.
It was fun watching all the people fishing for all sorts of fish.
Everyone is so friendly and willing to talk to you and show you the fish they caught.
Lots of fun and it's free for non - fisherman and there is a nice store at the pier for cold drinks, snacks and gear if you find the desire to give it a try.

By Sheila M |

Thanks to the fine folks at Bogue Inlet Pier. The pier has given my MArine Science class an educational opportunity. I took my class there to get a "scientific view" of the beach the students frequent and love.
My classes are large...we arrive by bus and there are usually 3o of us. The folks fishing on the pier are always curious about what we are doing as we have our clip boards to conduct wave experiments...we toss apples in to see the wave orbits, we time the waves to find the wave period, we assess the breakers to see if they are plungers or spillers! We also look for the longshore current and check any rip currents. We check for sedimentation and look at the beach profiles. We take a huge amount of pictures.
But my students are curious about the fishing folk, too. They share with us how they are catching fish, what they have seen on the pier, show us their catch, show us how to filet a fish, and even let us hold fish they've caught.
It's a great pier. Come on down!

What a lovely area of North Carolina! The Emerald Isle was a perfect day trip from Raleigh. Not being familiar with the area, we decided on Bogue Inlet Pier for our destination. We couldn't have asked for more spectacular weather. We had a beautiful day walking on the pier, enjoying the surf, strolling on the beach, and taking beautiful photographs. The sand was soft and white, but the waters were only clear for a short distance off the shore. Yes, it was crowded, and I would probably choose another beach area when visiting the Emerald Isle again. We decided to grab some food at Surf's Up Bar & Grill to validate parking (food was fine). We were surprised when we still had to pay a substantial amount for parking.

I am used to the lovely Navarre Beach Pier on the Gulf Coast - free parking, $1 per person to walk on the pier, soft white sand beaches, and clear waters to view ocean-life from the pier!

By Mark T |

I had rented a house just down the beach and decided to stop in, they ave reasonable prices and a spectacular view at the end of the pier.

By 242angelat |

The shop is well stocked with drinks, food, t-shirts, and souvenirs, as well as fishing supplies. Walking out on the pier is like stepping back in time to a slower pace. You can spend hours watching everyone else fish or join in yourself. Everyone is friendly and will offer advice on things to do and places to eat in town.

By darlenecox025 |

Very nice and large pier with a place to eat and purchase cool drinks. Whether you are gong on the pier or to the beach. Very convenient to both.

By Gladtoleave |

Walk out onto the pier is free
Fantastic view. We were there when Irma was hitting Florida, and the waves were huge here feom the storm.

By Lickcreek |

This is a must stop anytime we are down at the beach. The staff are very friendly and it provides a great opportunity for fishing or for just a nice evening stroll. For those first time ocean fisherman, The staff as well as those fishing are very helpful to give directions and share their knowledge. Personally I enjoy going later in the evening to go fishing when there are less people. There's never a guarantee that you will catch anything but you do have a fun evening with the family

What a beautiful Thanksgiving weekend at Emerald Isle. The weather was great to be on the pier fishing. Lots of puffer fish being caught & a few other. I usually surf fish so this was the 1st time fishing from the pier, but will definitely do again. Just incase you don't know, they only take cash. No credit cards!!! Didn't know that myself.

By GoFryGo |

To be fair, I was not fishing, but I was there for an hour and did not see a single fish caught. Nada. Nothing. We did see a couple sharks in the water, and the pier staff were very friendly and it was free, so I can't see complaining too much or giving less than a three, but the visit was not great this time......

By revrick33 |

Pier is normal ocean pier. It is in good shape and very long. Enjoyed the time to just watch water and see people fishing.

By jennifera399 |

Nice beach with an excellent beer purchase opportunity if you wish to purchase your beverages from the store on the pier that you can purchase your six pack and use within the time you are there or take the 6 pack all at once. Beach was nice and water was great. There was a younger crowd throughout this beach. As long as you can tolerate the younger folks you are in great shape. Also there is opportunity to dine on the pier, however I did not take advantage of this opportunity.

By GMKISOK |

Free entry unless you're fishing. Parking was free when we went as well. It's a pier, so you probably wouldn't spend too much time there unless you're fishing.

By Tallinn20 |

Waves were a bit rough, but my 13yr old loved them. 11yr old liked playing in the sand. Nice shady spots under the pier. Bathrooms were yucky but parking was free and there were showers also.

By Loving2Travel888 |

We have visited the wonderful Bogue Inlet Pier for many, many years. It is always a beautiful place to see the ocean. Nice long pier. Nice shop before you enter onto the pier. Friendly people. Awesome observation area at the end of the pier. A great, treasured place to always visit!

By lochranl |

This is a must stop even if it is to just go for a walk out on the peir. It cost nothing to do and perhaps you will get to see a fisherman catch something good. The only thing I did not like were a few kids running around using some not so nice language!

By Ms14369 |

We absolutely loved the view. Great walk on the pier and on the beach. The beach was so clean. Highly recommended.

By Linda D |

Nice older type pier that you can walk out on. Folks fishing and the views are fantastic. Nice beach

By Jamie B |

Free parking and only a short walk to get the the beach. Beach itself is very clean and we had a wonderful time. There is a restaurant on site and there are showers/feet sprinklers to clean off the sand.

By Eli Oklesh |

I proposed to my future wife at this pier. We just got back from our first time their since, with our two kids. The pier is clean, spacious enough to not get in the way of the fishermen, and offers a terrific view of miles of coastline. When we went the parking and pier access were free. Hoping no hurricanes ever come and destroy this place.

By B K |

Came here with my husband during our vacation and walked the pier after lunch at the adjoining restaurant. Wonderful part of our day

By Travelbug |

I can spend hours just sitting on a pier and take in everything going on around me. There is so much to see, fish being caught, sharks and other marine life swimming near the top of the water, the birds and the people. This pier is clean, well maintained and open 24/7. They have a great shop on the pier as well.

By Michael A |

This is one of the better piers on the SOBX. It's free to walk out on. Has a nice observation deck on the end, with some of those quarter telescopes.

By MAMAW2XS |

They fished until 1 am . I was a clean pier they staff were nice, They caught a lot of fish flounder and shark's. The pier is well lite at night.it was within walking distance from where we were staying which made it nice. There was free parking at the pier and a restaurant also on the pier but never got to eat there hope to go back there soon

By skoolieowner |

We always stop by and walk the pier, great folks and snacks and drinks available to enjoy the views with.
Grab a beer or water and wander down the pier, this time we saw; rays jumping, dolphins and even a 5ft shark steal a kingfish off a line.
Clean restrooms, finish the Trip off

By Myron B |

Always heard about Bogue Inlet. Nice pier , over priced for fishing and bait. Fish bites available for $8.79, Walmart price $4.79 just an example.

By wally b |

Great place to go any time of the day or night. Go for the fishing, people watching & great views of the beach & ocean, friendly & helpful staff

By norma s |

Pier was free to use, great views of the beach and sea life. We seen Dolphins one morning swimming around the pier.

By Sharon R |

Loved walking out here at sunset - could watch others fish and some kids were surfing in the water - all for free. :)

By jvpritc@aol.com |

We spend a fun afternoon on the pier. My wife and walked out to the observation deck and took looks of pictures of the beautiful sunset. It is a great spot for photographers. Naturally it is great for fishing and we enjoyed talking to many of the fishermen about their experience there.

By Vesper M |

The Pier is great to see beautiful ocean views, surfers, and the sky. It is also great to fish from. They are currently remodeling an attached restaurant.

By blade4855 |

I believe the title just about says it all. Plenty of free parking this time of year. No charge to go out on the pier if you're not fishing and the folks that run it are very friendly and informative. Grab a $2.50 can of beer and stroll all the way out to the observation deck. Great venue to watch a lot of people fishing, but an even better place to take pictures of the beach.

By Beverly G |

From the time you walk in, you are greeted with friendly happy faces. You can purchase a snack or beverage or all the fishing supplies you need. Take a walk down the pier and enjoy not only the beautiful beach views but you might see someone catching some nice fish. It's my go to every time I visit Emerald Isle. Best of all, it's free to take a walk on the pier!

By Karly S |

Nice long walk along the pier. Great for fishing as well. We sat and watched the men fish and had a great time.

By Emily C |

The pier is beautiful and it extends far out into the ocean, which is nice. I like how there is a store you have to walk through to get onto the pier so you can have some Icecream for the walk. The crowd is a little rough and it's not the best place to let your kids wander off to alone, so it's best to have an adult with your kids. There is a nice area where you can rinse off your feet before walking into the store and onto the pier. Although the rinse off area is a little on the dirty side, it is still manageable to use... Just make sure you are wearing shoes while rinsing off your feet

By J D |

The Bogue Inlet Pier has been here for many years. Hurricane tested (battered and repaired) it stands and is a local draw for all ages. Open 24/7, year round it is a meeting point and one of those things you just have to do. Casual strolls with family and friends gives you a nice vantage point to look back on the island. Small shop for bait, snacks and sodas are there. Free to walk on and reasonable fee to fish.

By M4uri |

i realy love to just walk around the pier area. its so relaxing, watching the waves, watching the nice houses and just sit on that little bench....

By Autumn P |

Easy to park
Easy to find
Very windy day
Easy beach access
We walked down
The pier. People were fishing
Not too busy
Nice view of water

By Suzy S |

Beautiful views, friendly people, and free! My husband I got to see 2 sharks during our hour(ish) visit.

Family friendly - wish we would have known it was there earlier in the week.

By jane c |

I have always loved this place. They have done away with many piers and have basically sold out to the wealthy folks on the ocean. This pier is a place time forgot and I hope that will always be the case. You shouldn't have to own an expensive waterfront house to enjoy the beach and the Atlantic Ocean. Spend a day at the beach without spending a fortune.

By Vin M |

You, really can't go wrong by visiting the Bogue Inlet Pier. The price is right, it's free, all you have to do is walk on to the pier. There are always a number of local fishermen trying out their luck. A walk to the end and up a flight of stairs and the view before you is outstanding. From this vantage point you might see a large fish caught, even if that doesn't happen the view is fantastic. The pier has recently been improved due to damage from a past hurrricane. I'm sure you will not be disappointed if you visit the pier.

By Katie T |

For the past two years we have been coming to BIP for the great fishing and family friendly atmosphere. We decided on a last minute trip and were not disappointed. While the fishing wasn't as bountiful as last year, my boyfried did catch his first shark (2ft). It was tossed back but added a great memory and a fishing tale to top all others. We stayed at the BIP Motel and it was perfect. Check out our review their. Also, the sound proved luckier than the pier this time. We caught a very small black drum, a nice puffer fish and a 3lb skate, all of which were tossed back.We loved every second of it!

By DannyWasserman |

We love walking along and down fishing piers and this one was no exception. Friendly people and plenty of spacing for social distancing.

By Sheri K |

Loved it!! Great photo ops, lots of fishermen seemed to be catching alot, love the upper deck!! Seems like alot of work was done in the off season-lots of new wood and everything looked painted and fresh. Lots of available seating and looked like a new pier house going in. A must visit!!!

By thegrendels |

Free pier for folks, fishermen pay. Excellent condition with updates. Well maintained property. Relaxing wind and rain sheltered benches.

By MelanieMelody1 |

The parking was not great, the construction made it ugly, but I realize once all the wonderful improvements are complete, it will be much nicer. Only port-a-potties, no shower, nothing was open besides small shop geared for fishermen and women. Looking forward to returning once all the work is completed.

By jwtaylornc |

Drove over to watch the sunrise on a recommendation from a friend. It was a geat place to sit and watch the sun come up with my wife.

By Camdenmama |

A lot of piers charge admission just for you to walk out onto them. Bogue does not. It is a lovely pier and the pier store is well appointed. Super friendly people too!

By Goatweed |

Bogue Inlet is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful waves, lovely sunsets, and the on-pier shop is open all night for snacks, drinks, and fishing gear. My biggest qualm with this spot is the amount of people who are elbow-to-elbow on the pier, and literally no one is wearing a mask. In fact, everyone in my family didn't bother wearing a mask either, except for myself, so I won't be surprised if I get the virus, since only a select few of us care that there is a pandemic going on.

I want to give 5/5, but the safety/health precautions here are absolutely atrocious, and North Carolina has some growing up to do.

By caiss63 |

The pier was not well stocked and very highly priced. It was a high traffic weekend and the waters were rough. The ice cream was never in stock... If you are a fisherman the pier provides adequate fishing area for king fisherman without impact of tourist traffic.. The upper view of the pier was the best part of the visit .

By Cindi R |

They have the best steak sandwich I have ever eat. I loved this place and everyone I was with felt the same way. Plus you can walk out on the pier and enjoy the view.

By Dave C |

The place used to be run down. But did these guys step it up a notch with remodeling. The restaurant is named Surfs Up.... very good meal. Nothing fancy just good food. A little on the noisy side but we’re seniors...haha!

By Joanna B |

We brought the kids (13 and 10) to fish at the pier in August of 2013. For less than $25 a piece, we rented a good working fishing pole, tackle (weights), bait, and a tag allowing them to fish. They had a blast and caught a lot of pin fish, and once in a while a jack. Although we didn't go home with anything to cook for dinner, the kids really enjoyed themselves trying to catch fish, and watching everyone else fish. The king fishermen were also enjoyable to watch as they reeled in a couple big ones while we were there. The cashier and everyone on the pier that we encountered were very nice and friendly. Many of the fishermen also shared their pin fish for bait. Some of the bigger fish were caught in very shallow water, and it seemed like everyone was catching something. We will definitely return.

Some things to keep in mind - this pier operates on a cash only basis, so make sure you bring enough cash for fishing, and also for t-shirts, ice cream, snacks, etc. On weekdays, there is no charge for parking, but on Saturdays and Sundays there is a $10 charge.

By Everi |

Contrary to Federal Law, people owning a home on the beach consider the beach their own. All the "unwashed" can stay away. Worst experience just trying to get a look at the ocean.

By markh1164 |

This is the great part of Emerald Isle, hanging out with the locals and watching the young kids fish. I saw a 12 year old haul in several nice fish, I mean this kid was good and very well mannered. Had a great breakfast at Gaffer's with some of the best steak and eggs ever. The staff at Bogue Inlet Pier were the best ever. If I ever go back to Emerald Isle it will be to visit this place.

By Jill K |

Pier fishing is one of the funnest ways to fish. Yes you have to be careful, but at the same time its a blast

By Faith D |

The pier is just finishing a wonderful renovation and loads of improvements have been made. It's much wider, cleaner, and more accessible. A new restaurant will open shortly. Can't wait!

By Carol B |

If you're headed to the Outer Banks, add a stop on Emerald Isle at the Bogue Fishing Pier. If you have time, relax on the beach or do some shell collecting. Off season this is particularly enjoyable. The beach does get crowded on the weekends in the warm months. The pier has a small shop for various smacks and sundries, a rest room and is a gathering place for locals and fisher folks. The beach is clean and has great waves. Small hotels and rental houses run the entire length of the beach so you have lots of options for lodging at various price ranges. A great beach that is sort of off the beaten path. Head over to New Bern (about a 40 minute drive) for an overnight if you want to see a great historical town on the Neuse River. A great weekend getaway from the beach - come back on the weekdays for less crowds.

By stancarman |

We always walk out and watch the fisherman and look at the beach. A nice stroll or spot to grab a soda.

By 143Food |

We always take a day and spend it on the pier. Between the great fishing and delicious food in the restaurant, it makes for a fun day.

By offunspirit |

If you want to catch fish, spend the money to go out on a headboat. People were catching little sharks but not much else.

By Jarhead2802 |

Have used this site on more than one occasion. Enjoyable, friendly staff, normally other people who are fishing are friendly and often will strike up small conversations, but not so as to interfere with your fishing. Has an observation deck at the very end of the pier. The pier's end is reserved for King Mackerel fishing.

By Wendy D |

The pier is a great place to visit even if you don't fish. My husband and I stopped here for a walk on the pier one morning during our visit to NC. It's clean and easy to access even with a stroller or a wheelchair/scooter. The pier goes out far into the ocean, there are benches that offer shade on one side spread out along the length. You can watch the locals fishing, chat and hear their fish tales. It's free to just walk along the pier, which is great. We sat down for about an hour took in the fresh air and relaxed. You can also get to the beach from the same spot, which looked beautiful. There was a shop right there that sold drinks/snack. Plus a clean rest room. Parking was free too, we visited on a Monday so not sure if you have to pay on other days.

By Gobig12 |

The fishing was so-so, but you can't control if the fish are biting or not. The fishing rates were a little pricey, as was the bait. Overall we enjoyed just kicking back and relaxing, the area was clean and the management seemed to run a tight ship, so everyone was well behaved.

By 360Angler |

The staff are friendly and helpful. Always going the extra mile to make guests feel they are important

By Ke S |

Overnight fishing and staff were great. I left out to grab my laptop and use the restroom. Was planning to do a little work while enjoying the pier view. My fiancée paid for fishing passes and was fishing. I went to connect to the WiFi and a password was required. When I went into the shop and stood at the counter the staff (new from night shift) asked if I needed any help in a rude and attacking manner. I proceeded to ask what the WiFi password was , and was told that they did not have WiFi. I could see in the list of available connections that they have a BIP regular secured and a BIP guest secured WIFi. I will never be back or recommend anyone to a place that treats patrons this way.

By Hillbillybean |

Husband and I paid for late night fishing. We didn't bring our own poles so it was $25 each to use theirs including bait. We caught 12 spot fish. Would be such a fun thing for kids! I don't want to say you're guaranteed to catch anything, but everybody around us was at least catching spot fish. We literally dropped the shrimp on the hook into the water and would get bites immediately. It was expensive so next time I would bring our own poles. The guys recommended we cut the shrimp into thirds but when we would cast out the shrimp were falling off so we had better luck winding a whole shrimp on the hook and dripping it below the dock, then pulling the pole up when we would feel a bite. We saw others catch manta rays and baby sharks! We even saw a shark in the water and a school of rays. The dock workers were super friendly and helpful and let us borrow a knife. I would absolutely go there again, next time with my kids!

By Y6800YAdenniss |

The Bogue Inlet Pier is very nice, Great Location on the Beautiful Emerald Isle, however my issues were not with the pier or the location it was with the RUDE staff! They were not very helpful or friendly and I didn't feel very appreciated for coming there.

By StephanieandJamie |

You can "rent" fishing equipment for 27$ for 6 hours! They even provide bait and there's always someone there to prepare the fish you've caught. The gentlemen walking up and down the pier to assist you are very nice and funny! So helpful! It was a very very warm day when we went so we didn't catch anything but it was still a lot of fun! It's open 24 hours a day so you can fish 24 hours a day!

By kimmyt382016 |

Great place to stop and visit. So much to see! You can watch all the people fishing, take in the beautiful ocean scenery, surfers, kites flying from shore, sunrises and sunsets are not to be missed...they are breath taking. If you walk all the way to the end there is an observation deck up a flight of stairs. They also have a store that has everything you need to try your hand at fishing if you want to give it a try. I also must say everyone we met on the pier were so friendly and didn't mind answering any of our questions! If you look in the water by the fish cleaning station you will see SHARKS feeding on the fish scraps!

By Kirk S |

Food here is very average. Stick to the sandwiches. This is not the kind of place you order a 20: dollar entree special. Service is spotty as well. Portions are below average. You go here for a sandwich and a beer and a spectacular view.

By Jlmh49 |

We visited this past weekend with our son who was seeing the ocean for the first time. Even with it being Labor day there was still plenty of room on the beach and the pier. Neither one were super crowded and parking was free one day and only $15 for all day parking the next. The pier is super long and the view is fantastic.

By Albert S |

Nice place to visit. Pier seems to be a bit longer then other piers I’ve been to on the east coast. Very nice store in front to enter the pier. The woman we met from behind the counter was very helpful with information of the area. Also have a small restaurant/grill to eat at. Clean area and access to the beach is right there. Just wish the ice cream store was open. Had a good day here, recommend stopping by if in the area.

By skibunny63 |

Nice place for breakfast. Great place to watch the surfers. Take a walk to the end of the pier. Lunch was good too.

By Rick S |

Great experience very relaxing brought back a ton of old memories. Can’t wait to go back. Enjoy some of the great fishing on our coast.

By Steven B |

the pier was clean, and big enough for all the fishers and had a lot of seating but the gift shop was way over priced.

By landd1021 |

bogue pier is pretty nice and if you are pier fishing, it's pretty good and it isn't really all that crowded

By Tigchelaar |

Always park here when I do a day beach trip. The beach is clean, there are clean restrooms , nice people, and the best thing is sitting on the pier and the observation deck over the ocean , feeling the ocean breeze , and sunshine ..... So good for the mind, body, and soul.

By Dklen |

Make sure you walk to the end of the pier to watch the fishermen pull in the big ones (sharks, king mackerel, stingrays, etc...)

By Tiffany C |

We found this little gem and have made this a regular spot. It is PACKED on the weekends, but for good reason! The pier is so easy to fish off of. There are benches lining the pier so it's easy to sit with your cooler and fishing pole, and there's trash cans and recycling cans down the pier. The fee is $12.50 for a day permit to fish, not too bad if you're going to make a day of it. The front office sells snacks, beer, drinks, and some fishing gear so if you forget anything it's super convenient. The right side of the pier is the hot side for fishing so try and get a spot there. In the middle of the pier there's a fish cleaning station which is super convenient! It has flowing water and boards to cut your fish before you get home!

If you're here and not fishing, there's an observation deck at the end of the pier with binoculars but NOTE it costs $.25 so be prepared with quarters. There's easy access right to the beach too, so this is very nice for a family with kids who want to come check out the beach too! I highly recommend a visit here!

By Jagrego |

This is a great fishing spot. The pier itself has a shop that sells anything you could need for fishing. It also has plenty of snacks, drinks, and apparel. There's also a bar and grill attached.

By Kristina M |

A visit to Emerald Isle definitely should include a walk on the pier. We went all the way to the end and spotted a small shark! It's windy but offers a fabulous view of the island.

By Teachcool |

What can I say. You can stroll down this massive pier and get a great view of the island or the sunrise/sunset or get a look at what the fishermen are catching. (For a small fee, you can be one of those fisherman!) Great family fun that's open 24/7. Do yourself a favor and visit the pier next time you're in town.

By darmcclory |

I love to walk along this Pier! The fishermen are always willing to show you what they caught, and my kids never have to wait very long to see someone catch a small shark, which is very exciting for my little boy! Me- not so much... ha ha!

By Rebecca K |

Great views of the ocean and surrounding area. Always being updated year to year. New paint on buildings and always well cared for

By gojusensei |

This is a wonderful place to visit with family. There is something that everyone of any age can do--fishing, swimming, walking, playing in the sand, picnicking or just plain sitting. People seem very friendly when they are relaxed. Be sure to wear something on your feet on the pier and be sure you have a fishing license. Also, please be sure to dispose of all garbage including cigarette butts appropriately. The Town has now added food vendors on the beach.

By katielyne926 |

So I have never been fishing but I was dying to try. We arrive at 4:45am (cause thats what they said you need to do to catch the fish) and I was determined to catch fish. For $28 a fisherman they set you up with everything. I actually cant remember if that included bait but it did cover a fishing rod and reel with a rig and two hooks and 6 hours of fishing. The pier was terrific with seats all along the length of it, garbage cans periodically and tables where I guess later in the day they cut your fish up for you (or maybe you do your own?) We met nice people the whole time. I caught about 30 pin fish (hence my official title above) and I caught one Red Drum about 13 -14 inches long but had to throw him back (18" required for that kind of fish). Okay.... believe it or not, I did catch a MUCH larger Red Drum (his mouth along was 5 " across from the front so Im betting he was a keeper but he slipped the line cause I didnt set the hook well (or so they tell me). It was great fun every though we went home with no dinner... but I would again and again. I want to bring the kids back. Here's what I learned.... go early, use small bait, a small hook, bring your own cooler, they sell ice there. The fish hang out right at the base of the pier and in the foam of the waves. Next time I might even see if they let you take a net to the water and catch them knee deep from the beach in addition to from the pier. Its well lit and there is plenty of parking and lots of people to help you if you need it. The store as you enter carries flip flops, hats, ice, drinks, some snacks, and everything you need to fish. At the end of the pier, the serious folks caught a bunch of king mackerel (tis the season), they pay more for the privledge of being at the end of the pier and they were quite serious about it, (someone mentioned that the King Mackeral Fisherman wouldnt even let you in their area even if you just wanted to watch. OK.... to each their own. It's a big peer and there is plenty of room.

By Megan T |

We stayed a block from the Pier so we walked the dog down to the Pier almost every day. Dogs are not allowed on the Pier but are allowed on the Beach 24/7. We enjoyed laying under the Pier to get out of the Hot Sun as much as walking out on the Pier watching people fish. No charge! How refreshing! Parking is $15.00's on weekends. OUCH! Free during the week. You can fish without a license, rent a pole, buy bait & clean your catch there.

By SarahHobgood |

My husband and I went for a walk on the pier and it was very nice. There was a lot of people there but everyone there was nice.

By Chuck P |

I didn't get to fish but I did spend some time on the pier and in the store. I really enjoyed the upper deck they have at the end of the pier. You get a a great view of the fishing on the pier and an unobstructed view of the beach line and ocean. It's also nice how they have shaded benches lining the center of the pier if you need a break from the sun.

It looked like people were catching a wide variety of fish and they have a cool sign where you can take pictures with the fish you catch there.

The staff in the store are very friendly and they have a very large selection of fishing supplies, beach toys, clothing, food and more all at good prices.

By KENNYandANDREA O |

Always have to take a walk on the pier to finish out our week in Emerald Isle. The upgrades to the pier is nice as well as the new store & resturant. Didn’t get a chance to try the restaurant, but maybe next year.

By Cullen C |

We love walking the pier. Lots of good fishing. We always see people catching while we are there. We go to the pier every year.

By Steve W |

Not a big fisherman but had fun on the pier for total of $30. Staff extremely helpful and met some interesting people on the pier. Plenty of snacks including beer to be purchased. Free to walk on pier.

By Greg B |

Went to hang out on the pier to watch the fisherman. Nice relaxing atmosphere. Store sells snacks, fishing equipment and beer. Also rent fishing equipment, have to pay a fee to fish. Good place to take the kids.

By Turner_Travels07 |

My family took a walk on the pier at night. It was great, and fishing is good there. It's a great pier and I would recommend it to anyone.

By Benjamin C |

Our WHOLE family came on vacation and earlier today my father, brother-in-law, nephew, and myself decided to get away from the women for a bit. The pier is a beautiful sight in and of itself with the age of the wood and the architecture behind it. Going past the pier's appearance itself, the people where absolutely amazing. The whole community here, from our experience so far, has been very friendly and welcoming and it really shows here. On one side you could see several guys out surfing, having a good time while on the pier you can see a BUNCH of people fishing. They are all ready and willing to help each other out and if you have any questions about what they're doing, how they're doing it, etc. they are all more than willing to carry on a conversation! In fact, at the end of the pier is the King fishing only zone that is permit required and my father walked right in (didn't realize it was permit required) and he just talked to every person in there one of whom taught him all about catching a King Mackeral! Only when my dad go to leave the area did someone simply say he isn't really allowed in there mostly because they were having a tournament. On top of this, there were also a huge amount of shrimp all around the pier and guys were lined up with nets pulling in a few at a time, which from what we were told never happens. The photo opportunities from the observation deck and the pier itself are wonderful!

By Sabrina H |

It's always refreshing for the soul to take a walk down the pier. You never know what you'll see; fishermen and women, children & gulls laughing, surfers & body boarders, a pod of dolphins or even a few sharks when fish are being cleaned!
