Beichuan Old County Earthquake Site Li Bai's Former Residence - Taibai Stele Forest Beichuan Old County Earthquake Site

By Freelancer |

A historical record! In the 2018 earthquake, Beichuan was one of the hardest-hit areas. This place has been preserved as an earthquake relic museum. I recommend you go and see it.

It's worth going to see, that day ten years ago... the pain of all Chinese people

Very well protected.

In Chengdu or Mianyang, first take a bus to Leigu. When you arrive at Leigu, there is an earthquake site tourist reception center. Buy a ticket there and a special bus will take passengers to the old county town. The ticket price is about 12 yuan.

The old county town of Beichuan has been preserved as an earthquake site. It is currently the only earthquake disaster site in the world that has been preserved in its original location and appearance, with the largest scale, the most comprehensive types of damage, and the most typical secondary disasters. It is divided into three parts: the old city, the new city, and the Shaba earthquake fault, with a total protected area of 1.2 square kilometers.

The devastation after the earthquake is still vivid in front of us. The entire site is solemn and quiet, which makes people lower their voices and slow down their pace.

By dimension |

I went to a place that made me cry! Thinking of my compatriots buried underground, I felt very sad!

By Living elsewhere |

It's a very, very depressing place, I can't bear to go there again.

By Ah Xi |

The site is very sad to see... But I highly recommend going there to feel the thrill of the time. In the face of disaster, I hope everyone can contribute a little love.

If you have not experienced the fear of an earthquake, you may not appreciate the beauty of life. The ruins of the old county town give us an opportunity to remember the dead and cherish the present. If you have the opportunity, you must go and experience the real "5.12"

By Liu Huohuo |

My trip to the Beichuan ruins happened by chance. I first visited the new county town, which was pristine, incorporating distinctive Qiang totems. Ten years later, the earthquake's impact on Beichuan was completely unnoticeable. After dinner, my sister and I decided that since we were already this far, we might as well continue on and visit the old Beichuan earthquake ruins. The new county town is about 30 kilometers from the old one, and the asphalt road is easy to navigate. At the intersection with the old town, there were some landslides due to recent rain, instantly transporting me back ten years. We wound our way up the mountain road to the ruins, where we saw many broken buildings, crooked and slanted, some even wavy. The guide explained that this was caused by the earthquake waves. The sign had a picture of the old county town, and the contrast was truly devastating. There were also photos of the workers who perished. Ten years later, may the deceased rest in peace...

Although I have experienced an earthquake, it was not as tragic as this. What I see now are the ruins after reinforcement and cleaning. The situation at that time must have been hell on earth. Seeing this also reminds me of the people's soldiers who fought against the earthquake and disaster relief. I feel so grateful...

What impressed me most was an old man who walked with a stagger, probably in his seventies. He was standing next to a trash can at the intersection, muttering something, and seemed not in good spirits. He talked to the passing vehicles and passers-by, but no one could understand what he was saying. He might be a survivor of the earthquake, he might have lost his loved ones, he was someone's father, someone's son, and now he can only mourn them in front of these ruins. Natural disasters are ruthless, so cherish what is in front of you.

Thinking of that prosperous and bustling little county town, which is now in ruins, I feel heavy-hearted every time I go there. Alas!

By ApolloKing |

Remembering those who lost their homes in the earthquake, it has been ten years

By The years are pure and good |

I don't know what to say. It was already gray and nearly dark when we drove there. We went there just after the Lunar New Year, and perhaps it was because it was so late, the old county town was practically deserted. The moment I got out of the car, my heart was heavy. The county town was deserted, with only a few mournful bird calls echoing from behind the mountains. This once simple and bustling place had been completely transformed by the 2008 earthquake. Everywhere I looked, I felt a pang of heartache. Looking at the perfectly preserved buildings, you really have to be there to truly appreciate the horror of that natural disaster. When I arrived at the ruins of Beichuan Middle School, I couldn't help but shed tears. So many beautiful lives were lost beneath these ruins. We really should cherish every day of our lives.

By Spirit |

I went there by chance, but it was very shocking. It was as if the disaster was right next to me. All kinds of twisted, deformed, collapsed and broken buildings made me feel the impermanence of life.

By Don't marry me |

I want to go and have a look. I wonder if there is a chance. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

This is a very sad place!

By User 7841379 |

It's quite shocking, worth watching, commemorating 5.12

By cs |

It was incredibly depressing to be here. Seeing the remains of buildings torn and twisted in every direction; roads and cars crushed by buildings; abandoned buildings overgrown with vegetation. This is when the limitations of the 5-point rating system became apparent. I can't recommend it, and I can't rate it.

By A Chen |

It was very shocking. The guide's explanation seemed to put you back to that day 10 years ago. The remains on the scene were really sad.

By Red Flower in the Army |

The devastation and broken walls make me feel like I've been transported back to yesterday. My heart trembles and I stand in awe. Seeing the scenes in the memorial hall, tears welled up in my eyes! Fortunately, the Chinese people have made it through. A nation thrives through adversity. May the deceased rest in peace, and may the living strive for strength!

By Mars Joe |

It is indeed worth a visit, but remember to respect the dead.

By Nana doesn't eat grass |

I am shocked and feel indescribably depressed. I only hope that the country will be peaceful and the people will be safe, and Sichuan will remain beautiful.

By chy |

512 is a painful event for all Chinese people. Visiting Beichuan made me feel the shock even more deeply. Beneath the old county town are tens of thousands of dead! May the living be strong, and may the deceased rest in peace!

By Lu Xiaoye MY |

Rather than saying this place is solemn, it's better to say it's profound. A person's life and death spans decades for some, only seconds for others. In the face of natural and man-made disasters, we are all as insignificant as a grain of sand or even a speck of dust, unable to withstand too much destruction. We can cherish the memory, but we don't want everyone to be left with too much grief.

By soar |

I can only think of one word, tragic.

All we can do is to offer a bouquet of chrysanthemums to the monument to express our condolences.

The entire earthquake site is very quiet, not at all noisy like other scenic spots.

By Six o'clock groundhog |

I went there and was deeply touched

Especially the memorial hall, the round trip fare from Mianyang is about 30

By wenghuili |

As Qingming Festival approaches, I arrive in Beichuan with a heavy heart. Before natural disasters, humans are so insignificant; before natural disasters, humans are also so great.

An update on public transportation: The reception center at the Earthquake Memorial in Leigu has closed. Buses from Mianyang to Beichuan should pass by the Earthquake Memorial, where you can catch the Beichuan to Guixi bus and get off at the old county town to reach the earthquake site.

By Great Rivers and Oceans |

The old county town of Beichuan, reduced to ruins after the 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake, now serves as the core scenic area of the Wenchuan Earthquake Relics. Despite its AAA rating, relatively few tourists in Sichuan know about or even visit it. Perhaps it's because there's not much interest, and even more people simply don't know about it. It's a truly stunning place, but the shock comes from an inexplicable grief. It's truly tragic. An entire county town was flattened by the massive energy waves unleashed by the earthquake, leaving countless people separated.

By Purple |

If only life could be like the first time we met...

By slope. |

Honestly, I'm at a loss for how to describe the earthquake site. I went there alone, and my sole purpose for visiting Beichuan was to see the site. Ever since the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, I've been wanting to visit the site, and I've waited eight years. It's a truly astonishing place, and perhaps words can't express it. May they rest in peace.

By Heavy rain causes flooding |

Every time I drive past the old county town, the earthquake ruins are still there, and I recall the unforgettable memories.

By It's too troublesome to think of a name. |

About the past that I don’t want to recall but cannot change.

By Wait three days |

A nation thrives through adversity. Walking through the streets of the old county town, the devastation is palpable, the collapsed buildings still dripping with water. It feels like I'm weeping, but I don't know for whom. I don't know the myriad sufferings they've endured, past or present. I can only be a bystander, sighing quietly.

By Mianyang soldiers |

The first time I came here, I saw the scene in front of me and thought about the scene at that time. It was so scary.

By Follow me everywhere |

The Beichuan Old County earthquake site is located in Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province. The site is both thrilling and heartbreaking to view.

By Clown |

For those who experienced the 2008 earthquake, entering this place is simply a re-enactment. There are ruins everywhere, like a paradise on earth. Landslides on both sides have blocked the river, raised the water level, and submerged houses. It's too much to talk about.

By Stephanie |

I've been there and I feel that we should cherish every minute of our lives. My sympathy to the victims!

By ε厎睳 |

I don’t want to say anything more. It hurts just looking at it. I can hardly find any memory of my childhood home now.

The old streets, old alleys, old houses... all have vanished with the earthquake...

Countless loved ones have also left us.

By Mountains, seas, deserts |

The last shuttle bus to the scenic area leaves at 5:00 PM, with a round-trip fare of 9 yuan. Humans are insignificant in the face of disaster. Many areas are reduced to rubble, leaving a tingling sensation. It reminded me of the tragedy of 2008, and brought tears to my eyes several times. However, there are still some intact buildings, demonstrating the importance of building quality.

By 1 |

This is not a scenic tourist destination, but it is a city of geological science. The 512 disaster has become history, leaving behind many marks worth remembering.

By Original Story |

An empty city turned into a memorial site, the scene is still very shocking.

By Yan'er is so cute |

The place is very good, worth a visit, and it is very touching to see

By Instant noodles are not spicy |

It is really shocking. People are insignificant in front of nature.

By jimmer |

Beichuan, the city hardest hit by the Mianyang earthquake, faced an impossible task in fully restoring its old town. Consequently, the old Beichuan county seat has been preserved as a tourist attraction. As a significant site of the 516 earthquake, it allows us to appreciate the suffering our nation endured and, with the passage of time, to cherish the hard-earned life we have today.

By Back to back |

The appearance after the 2008 earthquake has allowed it to be preserved in its original state, reminding people to always be safe and not to remember the tragedy of that year...

By haiyang |

The entire earthquake site museum project consists of a site area and a museum, divided into three tiers: the core area, the control area, and the coordination area. It is recommended that both the county seat and Renjiaping be included in the core area, with the entire county seat serving as the site area and the museum located in Renjiaping.

Museums are not just monuments or memorials; they have specific social functions. Reconstruction in disaster areas should not only be material, but also spiritual.

By bear |

Just like what we saw on TV, many places have not changed, it is very desolate. There was a tour guide explaining that everyone was very sad. Many people laid flowers at Beichuan Middle School, which was a stark contrast to the previous Beichuan in the pictures.

By Fatty |

Here is a good place to learn about 512

By Spicy |

You can go and see where the original appearance after the earthquake is almost preserved. There are shuttle buses going there.

By MURPHY |

This is the site of the 5.12 earthquake. Walking inside, you can deeply appreciate the tremendous power of the earthquake at that time and remember your compatriots.

By BIG-SHOTZ |

I arrived at the epicenter of the 2008 earthquake with trepidation. I took a bus from Zhongjiang to Mianyang early in the morning, then boarded a bus from the Mianyang Bus Terminal (next to Mianyang Station) to Beichuan. I got off at the terminal and went to the tourist information center to buy a ticket to the ruins in the county town. A round-trip ticket cost 9 yuan. It was actually quite close, only about a ten-minute walk. Arriving at the center of the ruins, the scene was truly devastating.

After returning from the ruins, I went to the memorial hall. Friends who have time can go and experience the taste... Not much to say, the picture above

By irene |

I went there once a long time ago and the scene was shocking. I just hope that such a natural disaster will not happen again.

By Cui Xiaotu |

I went there with the intention of just taking a look around, but even before I got off the bus, I was already stunned by the sight. Walking through it, I felt a sense of the solemnity of life's passage. It made me truly appreciate how fragile life is, and how wonderful it is to live in the present moment.

By Street Corner |

In May of that year, we experienced life and death together. Being alive is a kind of courage!

By 26 years old |

It is a very sad city, a ruin, an irresistible natural disaster, and the only way for the living to commemorate it is to live well.

By Wanpi |

Remember the unforgettable traces left by the 512 earthquake

By Good times will come after bad times |

I was very moved after seeing the earthquake ruins.

By Du Chuang |

The changes and impacts that the earthquake brought to Mianyang and Sichuan are all recorded here.

By No reciprocity |

The earthquake site is well-preserved, but few people visit it. One reason is that it's far from here, and another is that many of the old Beichuan residents have moved away, and no one wants to recall the painful experience. However, anyone who goes there should definitely visit and experience the horror of the earthquake.

The earthquake ruins are very shocking, whether you have experienced an earthquake or not, it will be very heavy to see them.

By Karen Mok |

The city was destroyed by the earthquake in 2008. If you come to Mianyang, you may want to go and see it.

By June |

As a witness to the May 12 earthquake, it wasn't until long after the quake had passed that I visited the ruins of the old Beichuan County. Some things must be experienced firsthand, seen with one's own eyes, to truly understand the situation. That's only a partial comprehension; after all, empathy is something you can never truly achieve. Collapsed buildings, floors sunk one or two stories underground, damaged school buildings...everything bears witness to the pain left by the earthquake. In front of the school, there's a flower offering stand. Every year, parents who miss their children return to this spot, bringing them a bouquet of flowers or a letter to express their deepest affection. The disaster has passed, but the scars and longing remain. Seeing the ruins of this old county town reminds me how precious what we have is and how to cherish it.

By springflower |

Generally speaking, I believe most people don’t want to see other people’s scars, right?
