There are generally two ways to visit Huanglong:

1. Take the cable car up the mountain and walk down the mountain

I recommend the first way. Due to the high altitude, walking up the mountain is too strenuous and can easily lead to altitude sickness. I have seen many tourists say that Huanglong is not as good as Jiuzhaigou and there is no need to visit Huanglong. However, I think Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou are different landscapes and should not be compared. I went to Huanglong today, starting from Songpan. The navigation showed that through the 7.9-kilometer Xueshanliang Tunnel, it was only 38km to the Huanglong Scenic Area parking lot. There were a lot of cars, but parking spaces were still available. The parking fee was 10 yuan. The ticket price on site was the same as the online ticket price, 170 yuan for the ticket and 80 yuan for the cable car, a total of 250 yuan. If you walk up the mountain, you don't need to buy a cable car ticket. You can enter through the gate on the left side of the ticket office to check your ticket. According to the altitude of Huanglong, it is estimated that most people choose to take the cable car and walk down the mountain. This is the most labor-saving way to visit. Scenic area: It was past 3 o'clock when we arrived. We took the cable car up and down (it is more cost-effective to go up and sit down). After watching, we returned and walked to the dividing point and walked down along the way. We passed various scenic spots until we reached the gate of the scenic area. The distance from the gate of the scenic area to the cable car was very far. It took half an hour to drive. Food: There are many places to eat in Songpan County, including hotpot and skewers. There are also food stalls outside the scenic area, and there are small shops inside (more expensive).

Tips: 1. Huanglong Scenic Area is located in a plateau area, so don't do strenuous exercise, such as running or jumping. Many people in the park were carried away on stretchers due to altitude sickness. There was one girl who ran here because she was afraid of missing the cable car.

2. There are oxygen cylinders in the scenic area, 30 yuan a bottle, it is recommended that people in good health do not buy them, it is addictive to breathe ~

3. Prepare more dry food and water. The price of instant noodles in the scenic area is 2 yuan per cup, and 10 yuan per box. It is very expensive, but Jiuzhaigou is more expensive. But don't carry too much food, because the higher you climb, the heavier the weight will be, and it will feel like double the weight of your usual backpack.

Due to the small number of tourists, the cable car in the Huanglong Scenic Area is only open for half an hour during the "peak" period in the morning. After this point, the cable car will stop operating due to "cable car failure", which can reduce operating costs.

Huanglong is over 2,000 meters above sea level, so be sure to prepare thick clothes. The temperature in Chengdu is over 20 degrees, and it is already over 10 degrees when you get to Huanglong. The ticket price for Huanglong is 200 yuan in the peak season and 80 yuan in the off-season. We chose the last few days of the peak season. At first, I thought the ticket price difference was too big, right? Practice has proved that this is of course not the case. The last few days of the peak season just happen to have snowy scenery to see, which is completely different from the water in Jiuzhaigou. The scenery will not be repeated. After a few days in the off-season, due to snow, some scenic spots will be closed due to the closure of the plank road, or the road to Huanglong will be closed due to ice, so it is useless to be cheap. The highest altitude of Huanglong is said to be 4,000.

We took all kinds of photos along the way. Children from the south will always be extremely excited no matter how many times they see snow. We spent a lot of time taking all kinds of photos. There were not many people at the beginning, so we were allowed to take photos. The scenery was so beautiful, the snow-capped mountains in the distance under the blue sky, the white snow pressing down on the green pines nearby, the unknown plants with red dots among the dead branches, the clear snow-capped mountain water with green, blue and yellow backgrounds, each forming a scene in the travertine pool, the fairyland sparkling in the sun, the gurgling water, the roaring waterfalls, and our cheers and excitement, we were almost jumping up and down, praising the magic of nature and its generous gifts.

After buying the ticket and the cable car ticket, you can walk up the mountain from the ticket center. If you take the cable car, you need to take a bus for a few minutes to the cable car point, and then take the cable car up. After getting off the cable car, there is a wooden plank road all the way. Walking in the woods in the mountains, it has just snowed and the snow on the trees is melting, so you still need an umbrella.



After walking about 2 kilometers, you will reach the bottom of the Five-Colored Pool. Looking back at the plank road you took, the entire mountain of trees is shrouded in mist, like a fairyland.

After all, altitude sickness is still scary when it gets serious. I can only say that we didn't buy oxygen-enriched water, and we still had a lot of fun on the way to Huanglong. Taking the cable car to Huanglong, the altitude sickness will be stronger. In high altitude areas, I can only say that you should move as slowly as possible and don't do strenuous exercise. There are many squirrels in Huanglong. Walking up along the plank road, the first stop you see is the snow-capped mountains, which is quite shocking. Wearing a shirt under the snow-capped mountains is also a different experience.

I went to the visitor center to get a map, and then went to buy tickets. The visitor center on the right can store luggage. Even if you take the cable car, it is still more than two kilometers away from Huanglong’s most classic Five-Colored Pool... But if you climb the mountain by yourself... it will take more than 4 kilometers... Huanglong’s natural resources are also very rich, with many plant species and a wide distribution. There are also many varieties of rhododendrons, which are colorful in late spring and early summer.

The timing of my visit to Huanglong Scenic Area was not right. It was the dry season. It was so dry that only a few pools had water, and there were very few tourists in the whole scenic area. The dazzling names of the major pools could not withstand the disturbance of the dry season and became obscure. However, through the few pools of water, I could imagine the state of Huanglong during the peak season. But it was dry! Dry! Dry!

It wasn't the flood season when we went there, but the blue and yellow colors looking down from the highest viewing point were still very beautiful. I personally didn't suffer from altitude sickness, but some people did suffer quite badly.

If you have enough physical strength, it is recommended to walk up and down the mountain, because the road up and down the mountain is a straight line, and the cable car is a zigzag line, so even if you take the cable car, you still have to walk for a long time. The weather in Huanglong changes suddenly. It rains one second and the sun comes out the next second. Unlike Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong is mainly a travertine landscape. Under the sunlight, the pool presents colorful colors.

It took seven or eight hours to reach Huanglong Mountain, which is more than 4,000 meters above sea level, on the highway and winding mountains. There were oxygen water sellers halfway along the way, which cost 100 to 100 yuan for a small bottle. It was quite expensive. You can decide whether to buy it or not according to your physical condition. I heard from people who have been there that there is an oxygen bar on Huanglong Mountain, and if you really need it, you can also pay for oxygen there, but if you go up the mountain very late, the oxygen bar will be closed (I told you that I didn't buy it, nor did I breathe oxygen. I completed the whole journey safely, but later I got carsick when I was riding in the car. I don't know if it was caused by lack of oxygen or being too tired. Anyway, I don't usually get carsick). At the foot of Huanglong Mountain, you have to take the cable car up. After getting off the cable car, you have to walk a long, long, long wooden plank road to reach the beautiful Five-Colored Pool on earth (don't save money on the cable car, 80/person, it's really far, people without physical fitness can't complete the journey, and time will be very tight).

By the way, I forgot to remind you that you must wear thicker clothes such as fleece or thin down jackets when you go to Huanglong, because it is at the foot of the snow-capped mountains and the temperature is very low. If you are lucky, you will catch the snowflakes in the hot summer, which is a very beautiful scene (I am the lucky one). Even if there is no snow, it will rain, so don’t forget to bring a raincoat.
