Sparkling Lake

火花海

In the earthquake on August 8, 2017, a 50-meter-long breach was torn in the Sparkling Sea, and the scenic spot was severely damaged and almost dried up.
The former Sparkling Sea was located between Shuanglong Sea and Wolong Sea, and the azure water surface was as smooth as a mirror.
The lake is surrounded by dense woods, and the lake is hidden in the heavy green, like a piece of crystal clear jade.
When the sun rises in the early morning, the lake surface will sparkle with golden light due to the refraction of sunlight, as if sparks are dancing in the water.

The lake is 2,187 meters above sea level, 205 meters long, 177.33 meters wide, 9.66 meters deep, and covers an area of 36,352.6 square meters. It was formed by a debris flow. During the wet season, when the sun rises or sets, the slanting sunlight on the lake surface creates a shimmering, sparkling effect, resembling countless burning sparks. During the dry season, the water level drops, revealing golden, round travertine mounds that emerge from the water, resembling an archipelago in the ocean. Some call it "Thousand Island Lake."

Huohua Lake, also known as the Sparkling Pool, stands at an altitude of 2,187 meters and is nine meters deep. Located between Shuanglong Lake and Wolong Lake in Jiuzhaigou, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, its azure waters are as smooth as a mirror. Surrounded by lush forests, the lake's waters, nestled amidst a blanket of emerald green, resemble a shimmering emerald. As the morning mist dissipates and the dawn breaks, the sunlight refracts, creating a scene of flaming sparks, dotted with dancing stars. This is how the name Huohua Lake came to be. Jiuzhaigou resembles a "Y," with Huohua Lake forming the upper half of the vertical line below.

They say that after visiting Jiuzhaigou, you won’t want to see water. The most amazing thing about Jiuzhaigou is its water. When I reached Laohuhai, I believed it. When there is no wind, the water in Jiuzhaigou is as still as a mirror and full of colors.

Two words: beautiful. Blue sky, white clouds, green water. The reflection effect is also beautiful.

You may never see this place again, but I'm glad I visited it 15 years ago. It's heartbreaking to see such a beautiful view destroyed. There once was a small, exquisite green lake between Shuanglong Lake and Wolong Lake. Every morning, as the mist lifted and the dawn broke, the sunlight refracted, creating a scene of sparks flaring and shimmering, hence the name Sparkling Lake. Today, the water has drained away through the earthquake's fissures, leaving only a shattered layer of mud.

The scenery is pleasant, with green trees reflecting off the trees and natural beauty!

It was already afternoon when we arrived, and we didn't see the beauty of the sea of sparks, but I particularly liked the plank road that passed through the middle. The lake passed through the woods, and we could see the crystal-clear water up close, and even touch the water with our hands. I was amazed by the transparency of the water, and this flowing crystal made me extremely grateful to nature. Unfortunately, in the subsequent earthquake, the beautiful sea of sparks was severely damaged.

From the Jinghai bus stop, take the scenic bus to Shuzheng Village, then go down through Shuzheng Mill and Shuzheng Group Lake. During this section of the journey, the Sparkling Lake is the most beautiful.

The earthquake caused a breach in Sparkling Lake, draining all the water and causing its disappearance. However, a new attraction, the Shuanglonghai Waterfall, was created. Repairing Sparkling Lake would have been easy, simply by plugging the breach. However, after consulting with experts, the scenic area concluded that Jiuzhaigou, a natural product, should be left in its natural state without excessive human intervention.

I didn't go down to see the Sparkling Sea, but I saw it from the observation deck. It's a bit far away and consists of multiple lakes, so it's still very beautiful.

The scenery is indeed beautiful. Jiuzhaigou is all about seeing the water.

Sparkling Lake is one of the highlights of the Shuzheng Valley Scenic Area and a must-see. Visitors typically get off the bus at Shuzheng Village and walk from the Shuzheng Group Lakes toward the valley entrance, visiting Wolong Lake, Sparkling Lake, and Shuanglong Lake before boarding the bus to continue their journey. If you pass by the bus, you'll miss the beautiful scenery.

It is also the lake in Shuzhenggou. It is the next lake downstream of Shuzheng Lake. It was drizzling at noon when I went there. It is said that the name comes from the morning light shining on the lake, and the rippling waves look like sparks. Hence the name. Although there was no sunshine when I saw it, there were still water ripples on the lake in the rain, which can also be regarded as "sparks". It is said that the Spark Lake dried up after the earthquake. I wonder if it is true?

In Shuzhenggou, it is said that the water surface looks like cremation in the sun, which is why it got its name. It feels similar to the other lakes in Shuzhenggou.

Sparkling Lake lies between Shuanglong Lake and Wolong Lake. Crossing the plank road across the Sparkling Lake waterfall leads to the Sparkling Lake Observation Deck, located just off the highway. The waters of Sparkling Lake are azure blue, surrounded by dense jungle. The best times to view Sparkling Lake are at dawn and dusk. At first light, the lake shimmers with golden light, resembling millions of sparks dancing in the water. This breathtaking sight is why it's called Sparkling Lake.

By Mars User |

Although I also arrived at the Sea of Sparks early in the morning, I didn’t see the scene described in the text. The sparks produced by the sun, maybe it wasn’t early enough, embarrassing.

The beauty of Sparkling Sea is beyond your expectation, with rich layers of colors. From Tiger Sea to Reed Sea, you must not take a car, but go down along the way to see Shuzheng Waterfall, Sparkling Sea, and Wolong Sea in turn. It is definitely a visual feast.

The Sparkling Lake cascading waterfalls, located at an altitude of 2,211-2,220 meters, are 3-5 meters high and 100-300 meters wide. They feature three cascades, forming two separate waterfalls that never meet, earning them the nickname "Lovesickness Waterfalls." The cascades tumble amidst a verdant landscape. While not spectacular, they possess a uniquely delicate and poetic charm. Sparkling Lake is 2,211 meters above sea level, 232 meters long, 134-294 meters wide, and 16 meters deep, with a reservoir capacity of 450,000 cubic meters. At sunrise, the lake's surface shimmers with golden light due to the refraction of sunlight, resembling sparks dancing in the water, hence the name "Sparkling Lake."

We walked along the plank road inside. Unlike the road outside, there are signs telling you what kind of sea it is. In the end, I was so tired of it that I couldn't tell which sea it was. Anyway, it was almost the same. However, the original meaning of Sparkling Sea is that the sunlight shines on the lake, sparkling like sparks. This effect is not something you can see if you want to. Anyway, we didn't encounter it.

Between Wolong Lake and Shuanglong Lake lies Huohua Lake, also known as the Sparkling Pool. Standing 2,187 meters above sea level and 9 meters deep, its azure waters are as smooth as a mirror. Nestled amidst the verdant foliage, the lake resembles a shimmering emerald dish, overflowing with magnificent gold, silver, and jewels. Huohua Lake also boasts a waterfall, over 10 meters wide and 8 meters high. It's formed by two separate cascades that never meet, earning it the name "Xiangsi Waterfall." Although it's the smallest waterfall in Jiuzhaigou, its cascading beauty amidst the lush greenery creates a uniquely exquisite and poetic atmosphere.

Must recommend! The path between the highway plank road and the forest plank road is the only place in Jiuzhaigou where you can play in the water. I walked it twice and it was not too much.

The Sparkling Sea in spring is also very beautiful, with different green trees reflected in the sea. Unfortunately, it was almost evening when we arrived and there was no sunshine, but it was still beautiful.

By There are so many monsters |

Actually, I walked all the way down, passing by Rhino Lake and Shuzheng Lake. The beauty was so great that I was a little visually fatigued. Haha, it's just a show-off, but each lake has its own unique charm. I was just looking at it from the roadside and didn't get to go inside. But at Sparkling Lake, there is a central plank road that you can walk on. Looking at the intertwined branches and the blue water between the tree shadows, it is really beautiful beyond words.

From the Jinghai pick-up point, we took the scenic bus to Shuzheng Village. Then, we descended past Shuzheng Mill and Shuzheng Group Lakes before stepping onto the wooden plank road. The hike was sparsely populated, allowing us to enjoy the scenery in peace and leisure—a truly delightful experience! The sun shone brightly along the way, the sky azure and white, new leaves dripping green, delicate flowers blooming, and the waters captivating. For us, the most breathtaking scene of this stretch was the Sparkling Sea. Old trees by the lake sprouted new buds, young leaves budded green, dead trees lay dormant, and small fish swam freely. The sun shone on the lake, creating shimmering waves like a thousand silver dots dancing across the surface—a breathtaking spectacle! Even the deserted plank road was beautiful in the sunlight. In this renowned scenic spot, it was truly a blessing to be able to enjoy the beauty of the landscape with a few friends, undisturbed by others.

Every lake in Jiuzhaigou is beautiful, and it's hard to describe the differences between them. The most beautiful season is late autumn, when the colorful leaves contrast with the blue water, creating a breathtaking sight.

Sparkling Lake gets its name from the way the sunlight refracts on the water, creating sparks that look like flashing sparks. The clusters of trees growing in the lake, withered and reddened by the season, look more like burning flames.

We went there in late November, which is not the most beautiful season, but it was still very beautiful and breathtaking. It really lived up to the reputation of "You won't want to see water after returning from Jiuzhaigou"!

One of the many lakes, the water is azure blue and crystal clear, like a giant sapphire. You can see the reflections of the ancient tree trunks at the bottom of the lake and the trees on the shore. It is very beautiful.

The azure waters are as smooth as a mirror. Surrounded by lush forests, the lake itself is nestled in a blanket of emerald green, resembling a shimmering emerald.

I have been to Sparkling Lake many times. I wonder if the sparkling lake I saw in October can be considered as a scene of burning sparks, twinkling stars, and jumping and flashing? It feels more like the scene described in the introduction.

This is the only section you'll need to pass when driving from the valley entrance to the Shuzheng Lakes. It's right next to Shuanglong Lake. It's a fairly common lake in Jiuzhaigou, so if you only have one day, there's no need to go there specifically.

There are many small shallows in the Sparkling Sea, which look like sparks burning in the lake from a distance. No matter how you look at it, the blue lake water is super beautiful.
