Baisha Ancient Town

白沙古镇

Baisha Ancient Town was once the political, economic and cultural center of Lijiang. It was also the original settlement of the Naxi people in Lijiang Basin and has preserved the original Naxi culture.
The ancient town retains its original appearance and has not been overdeveloped. It is quieter than Dayan and Shuhe, and you can see the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain when you look up.
Baisha murals are the most famous attraction in the town. They were painted from the early Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty, which lasted for more than 300 years. It is a good place to learn about Dongba culture.
You can sit and drink tea in a street shop, stroll around, and chat with local old ladies in a language that neither of you understands. It's relaxing and leisurely.

The World Heritage Site of Lijiang Ancient Town includes: Dayan Ancient Town (that is, the urban area of Lijiang Ancient Town), Shuhe Ancient Town, and Baisha Ancient Town. These three together are World Heritage Sites, and the commercialization of Chengdu is decreasing in order.

Baisha is relatively small and often overlooked, but because of this, you can vaguely see the original appearance of Lijiang

A quiet and beautiful town under the snow-capped mountains, quaint and pristine

Take a look at the Baisha murals and walk around Sifang Street. It's a very leisurely and comfortable place. One or two hours is enough.

By Tian Chang |

If you want to find the original appearance of Lijiang Ancient Town 20 years ago, you should go to Baisha. This village, which has existed for 800 years, still retains the simple Naxi background and original ecology.

Naxi old women in ethnic costumes can be seen everywhere in the ancient city. The words "World Cultural Heritage Naxi Ancient Kingdom Capital - Baisha" can still be clearly seen on the door plaque of the archway, and through the doorplate, you can see the snow-capped mountains in the distance. One south and one north, the doorplate forms a small separation. As you move northwards towards the snow-capped mountains, you will find some unique shops selling exquisite handmade accessories and ethnic costumes, which are novel and interesting. To the south, there are rows of Naxi houses, neat and orderly, yet peaceful.

The ancient town of Baisha in the early morning seems to be soaked in dew, and the shops that are closed to customers are like entering a large self-service shopping mall with a dazzling array of goods.

It is said that Baisha still has more than 80% of its inhabitants, which is rare in most ancient towns in Lijiang. Every household has its doors open, so you don’t have to look through the cracks to see. You can directly feel the natural and simple Naxi folk customs when walking in the town.

The Baisha Ancient Town is so quiet at night, and its ancient and original literary and artistic atmosphere is different from Shangri-La.

The only bug is... the whole road is paved with cobblestones... it's almost impossible to drag the box, which is too difficult for us girls.

Baisha Ancient Town is an ancient town that has not been developed so far. 80% of the original

It has always been preserved in its original appearance... There are very few people in the ancient town. Wandering around in the village, there is only a small road for two people... Looking up, you can see the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

By Cat Tea |

The ancient town is not big, with only one main street and few tourists. Most of the people you see are local residents, sitting under the archway chatting and selling vegetables, comfortable and relaxed. The most distinctive feature of the ancient town is the tie-dyed cloth that can be seen everywhere. The town is not big, but there are many tie-dyed workshops. Colorful tie-dyed cloth with different patterns is hung everywhere inside and outside the house, fluttering in the wind under the sun, which is particularly beautiful! If you want enough quiet and relaxation, you can choose to stay in Baisha Ancient Town for a few days, absolutely leisurely and without any disturbance.

By swallow |

The murals on the wall are full of ethnic characteristics, and the rich colors also reflect the colorful ethnic culture. Walking in the village, time seems to have stopped flowing. The sky is so blue, the snow-capped mountains are so magnificent, the cats and dogs are so lazy and comfortable, and the whole ancient town is as simple and peaceful as the Naxi elders. Here you can enjoy a real slow life, and it is also a good place for retirement. The sun has already hung high, and many stores are still closed!

I know that there are three famous ancient towns in Lijiang. Baisha Ancient Town is the farthest one and is very popular. There is a special bus line at the east gate of the ancient town, and the fare is 5 yuan. It passes through Shuhe Ancient Town on the way. Baisha Ancient Town is a well-preserved traditional settlement of the Naxi people. It has a history of more than 800 years. The ancient town radiates five main lanes with Sifang Street as the center. It retains the Naxi residential building complex with three squares and one screen wall, four courtyards and five patios. There are more than 30 Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings. The Qinglong River formed by the meltwater of Yulong Snow Mountain passes through the town. There are tie-dye workshops, Dongba papermaking workshops and other intangible cultural heritage workshops on the riverside. The main attractions include Baisha murals, Fuguo Temple, Beiyue Temple and Locke's former residence.

Baisha is the ancient capital of the Naxi people, a world-class "Ancient Naxi Kingdom", one of the important birthplaces of Naxi culture, and was once the political, economic, commercial and cultural center of the Naxi people in Lijiang.

By Still wanting more |

Baisha Ancient Town is located 10 kilometers north of Lijiang City. It is adjacent to Yulong Snow Mountain in the north and Longquan in the south. It is the ancient capital of the Naxi people and a world-class ancient Naxi Kingdom. It was once the political, economic, commercial and cultural center of the Naxi people in Lijiang, and one of the important birthplaces of Naxi culture.

Admission is free and open all day. Baisha Town, Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province.

Baisha Ancient Town is also a small town under the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It is much smaller than Shuhe Ancient Town and has only one main street. The Baisha Memorial Archway stands in the middle of the main street and extends to both sides. The entrance to the ancient town is a bit messy, with people and cars mixed together. There is also the Baisha Ancient Town Mural Museum here. The ticket price is 20 yuan, including 4 hours of free parking at the entrance parking lot. Stop here when visiting Baisha Ancient Town. Most of the shops in Baisha Ancient Town are coffee shops. The shops near the memorial archway sell goods at high prices, and the further you go, the cheaper they are. In order to attract business, the shops will see various animals on display at the door, including giant bear dogs, peacocks, alpacas, and parrots. It is simply a pet paradise. There are not many restaurants in the ancient town, but there are rich snacks, such as lamb skewers, yak meat, boiled milk tea, steamed cakes, and milk fans...

There are three ancient towns in Lijiang: Dayan (Lijiang Ancient Town), Shuhe, and Baisha. Baisha, which is closest to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, is the smallest and least famous than the other two, but it has a high cultural status. Baisha Ancient Town is the ancient Naxi Kingdom and one of the birthplaces of Naxi culture. The ancient town is surrounded by original Naxi villages. Local people have lived here for generations. There are not many foreign cultures and the atmosphere is particularly good.

An ancient town near Yulong Snow Mountain, with a main street running east-west and north-south respectively. The town is not big and can be walked around quickly. We came here purely for lunch. However, the town is still worth visiting, as there are many unique shops.

If you want to see what Lijiang Ancient Town looked like 20 years ago, come to Baisha, it is quiet and simple, without excessive commercialization.

This village, which has existed for 800 years, still retains its pristine original ecology, and Laxi culture can be seen everywhere.

Quiet streets, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is within sight

There are some local craftsmen with unique personalities here.

Their handmade jewelry is very unique and expensive

Our companion, Mr. Sun, bought a very beautiful hat here.

Friends who like quietness can come here. It is not as noisy as Lijiang Ancient Town and is more primitive.

By Star Traveler |

It is located at the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain. You can see the snow mountain from anywhere in the town. Surrounding it are Yushui Village, ten thousand camellia flowers and other beautiful scenery that you cannot miss. Great!

The quaint Naxi ancient town is the birthplace of the Lijiang Mu Kingdom.

The indigenous people have lived here for a long time, so it has a strong local flavor and has not been commercialized.

By June Lotus |

It is very convenient to get here from Lijiang. You can see Jade Dragon Snow Mountain on the street. There are several tie-dye workshops in the town.

By Rabbit Xiaobai |

Passing by Baisha Town, I met a Naxi grandmother. During this trip to Lijiang, I encountered many grandmas wearing ethnic costumes walking around the streets casually. The ethnic culture is passed down from generation to generation through the actual actions of the older generation.

By Haha pig haha |

A very quiet town, where I took photos of my favorite snow-capped mountains🏔️

By I am an alien |

Baisha Ancient Town is worthy of the word "ancient", with its ancient buildings, ancient crafts, and ancient transportation methods. This ancient town at the foot of the snow-capped mountains does not have the prosperity and noise of Lijiang Ancient Town, but is only quiet and peaceful.

By Wandering Little Yellow |

This place is more remote and of course the least commercialized. In comparison, Dayan and Shuhe Baisha Ancient Town are less popular and not many people come here. There are only one or two streets, and you can walk through them in a few minutes.

By When ? |

A place worth visiting.

This ancient town is relatively simple and primitive, and tie-dyeing is its specialty, so I came here specially to take a look.

Uh, there are also many people selling animal furs, wolf, leopard, tiger, fox, mink... I feel a little scared.

By The scenery on the road |

Baisha Ancient Town is the birthplace of the Mu family and the ancient kingdom of the Naxi people. There are not many tourists (saw several foreign tourists). The writing on the wall here is like heavenly books, the streets are clean, and the earthen walls are well preserved.

By Wang Mumu |

A quiet and relatively old town. However, when you pass by, there will be a group of dogs following you... wanting to beg for food.

By 3 ha |

There are not many people on the road and not many shops. It is a very leisurely ancient town.

There is an aunt selling vegetables under the ancient town sign.

By feelearth |

It is a very quiet ancient town. It doesn’t have the bustle of Dayan Ancient Town and Shuhe Ancient Town, but it has a more lively atmosphere.

By Hahahaha |

Compared with Lijiang, Shuhe is an ancient town with a more leisurely and slow pace. Looking up, you can see the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It should be very comfortable to stay there for two days.

By Miao Yi |

Baisha Ancient Town is one of my favorite ancient towns. It is not as commercialized as Dayan Ancient Town. It is basically inhabited by local Naxi people. The whole ancient town is quiet and peaceful, just like the old people living in Lijiang City, slow and leisurely. There are also few shops in Baisha Ancient Town. There are a few shops selling local specialties, a few restaurants (where you can eat authentic Naxi dishes), a few designer shops, and a few taverns. It is quiet and comfortable. There are more foreigners coming, but fewer Chinese tourists. Maybe it's because Chinese people prefer prosperity. Find a local restaurant or tavern to sit, and the local shopkeeper will carefully describe the various Naxi characters on the wall of Baisha to you, and you can deeply feel the atmosphere of a nation.

By Uncle Beard Kelvin |

The most popular ancient town in Lijiang is Dayan, followed by Shuhe. Here I would like to recommend Baisha, a more niche ancient town, where you can experience the real life of Naxi residents. It is quieter and more remote than Dayan and Shuhe. Although it is small, it has everything you need. It has the flavor of an ancient town, and you can see the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain when you look up.

Baisha Ancient Town was once the political, economic and cultural center of Lijiang, and was also the original settlement of the Naxi people in Lijiang Basin. It costs more than 30 yuan to take a taxi to Lijiang Ancient Town, or there is a No. 6 bus that goes directly there, with a fare of 1 yuan.

The ancient town retains its original appearance and has not been overdeveloped. You can come to the street shops in Baisha to sit and drink tea, or stroll around slowly. In Baisha, you can truly restore the lives of local people. Many local people live their original lives and have not been affected by the wave of commercialization.

Take a leisurely stroll in Baisha Ancient Town, where there are two main old streets crisscrossing each other, and there are many tie-dye shops on the streets. Tie-dyeing should be a major feature of this place. There are very few people in the ancient town. I went there late that day, and there were even fewer tourists. There were more local residents, living their lives as usual.

The ancient town itself does not require tickets

There is a very famous attraction in Baisha Ancient Town, "Baisha Mural". "Baisha Mural" is the product of the great opening of the Naxi society in the Ming Dynasty. It was painted from the early Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty, and it lasted for more than 300 years. The late Ming and early Qing dynasties were the heyday of Lijiang murals, and it has a history of 500 years. The ticket for the mural is 30 yuan per person.

Baisha Ancient Town is very quiet, like an old village. However, there are shops selling second-hand antiques, thangka shops, and embroidery shops. The exquisite handicrafts are not covered in dust in such an ancient town. There are even some specialized colleges in it. We took advantage of the early morning to enter the ancient town. The shops were not open and there was no one on the road. We saw the quiet ancient town in the early morning. In contrast to the bustle at night, it was as elegant as a virgin.

By Tiny |

Baisha Ancient Town is a village located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, with simple folk customs. When I arrived in the town, I found that the residents’ pace of life was slow and there were very few tourists in the town. Following this tranquility, I also slowed down my pace to experience the gift of "quiet" brought by the ancient town.

By Chiyuan Psychological Help |

The capital of the ancient Naxi Kingdom is probably what the ancient city of Lijiang looked like a dozen years ago.

There are not many tourists in the town, day or night. In the early morning, you can see Naxi grandmothers selling home-grown vegetables in the center of the town. Walking on the ancient stone road, you can occasionally look up and see the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance.

There are no tour buses here

No hustle and bustle

More like a girl next door

Standing gracefully at the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain

Quietly waiting for your arrival

Baisha Ancient Town was once the ancient capital of the Naxi people.

There are still many old buildings on the old street.

Very ethnic

I like this simple place

I envy this kind of life without disputes.

Simple and pure

Old street in drizzle

antique

Leisurely and quiet city life

Not so commercial atmosphere

Even we are strolling in the garden and feeling relaxed

Leisurely

Compared with Lijiang, there are fewer signs of commercial development here, including the Baisha murals that continue the cultural history of thousands of years. There are no tourist buses and no hustle and bustle. It is more like a girl next door, standing gracefully at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, quietly waiting for your arrival.

There are still many old buildings on the old street, which are very ethnic. I like this kind of simple place.

The old street with drizzling rain is quaint and has a leisurely and quiet market life, without such a strong commercial atmosphere.

Baisha Ancient Town still retains the original characteristics of the ancient capital of Naxi, whether it is the flowers blooming on the windowsills or the smooth stone streets underfoot.

Whether it is the ethnic costumes worn by the elderly in groups of three or two

If you are tired of the hustle and bustle of the city and want to have a quiet afternoon, find a pastoral spot, drink a pot of green tea, watch the tribesmen walking leisurely on the road, and let time pass by, it seems as if you have returned to a small village that was peaceful hundreds of years ago, then come to Baisha.

By 🌻゛- Dream |

Quiet and leisurely, it is suitable for living for ten days or half a month, a real slow pace of life.

By Ah S |

A remote but quaint ancient town, Baisha Ancient Town is very close to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, so if you want to go to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, you can stay in Baisha Ancient Town. Although the ancient town is also very messy, it should not be too "burning".

By red ant |

It is not as lively as Shuhe, but the tranquility reveals a rare leisure temperament, which best meets my expectations. Walking along the quiet path, time slows down, and hollyhocks, dahlias and gesang flowers can be seen everywhere on the roadside.

By Monster |

Baisha Ancient Town is very primitive and basically has no commercial atmosphere. There are only three or two bars here and there. I saw the local tie-dyeing technique and bought a set of local clothes (a few dozen yuan, and you need to bargain).

By Wang Dakeyo |

Baisha Ancient Town is very small, but I think it is better than Lijiang Ancient Town. It is quiet and there are not so many shops. The entrance of the ancient town is full of local atmosphere. Many aunties are selling vegetables, etc. I bought a piece of tie-dyed cloth, which is super beautiful. I had a happy day!

By Nabo L |

Baisha Ancient Town is at the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain. It is very primitive and has not been developed. So it is not very big! There are few shops and not many people. The road is not easy to walk. It has a primitive style.

By Xiao Linzi |

Baisha is famous for its tie-dye and embroidery, and many foreigners come here to collect handicrafts. Baisha is more simple and peaceful than Lijiang Old Town. Tie-dye can be seen everywhere on the street, and if it doesn't rain, you will see more tie-dye. There are many foreign coffee shops in the ancient town, which is a good place to hide from the rain. It's great to open a few exotic coffee shops in the quaint town, which doesn't seem out of place at all. There are also old ladies wearing old clothes buying vegetables on the street, which suddenly made me feel as if I am also a resident living here and coming to buy vegetables.

By Pink_Pt |

It is not far from Shuhe Ancient Town, and it only takes a few bus stops to get there. However, because it is a little far from the city center, it always feels like going to a niche paradise. Baisha is named after the white gravel on the surface; there is also a saying that it is named after the homophony of "collapse stone" in Naxi language. It is truly a small village under the snow-capped mountains, as if you can reach out and touch the snow on the top of the mountain. Baisha Ancient Town is the birthplace of the Mu family chieftain family and the earliest settlement of the Naxi people entering the Lijiang Basin. Because it has not been overdeveloped, the houses in Baisha Ancient Town are still full of Naxi heritage, and the rustic flavor can be felt as soon as you step in. However, the most famous and eye-catching thing in Baisha Ancient Town should be tie-dyeing. Almost every household sells tie-dyed cloth, which is hung in front of the door to form the most beautiful scenery in Baisha. It is impossible to know whether each piece of cloth is dyed by the boss himself, but if you look closely, you can see that each piece is unique and there is no duplication. No wonder it is also expensive. Even though I don't understand art, I will find tie-dyeing beautiful if I appreciate it carefully. In addition to the precious tie-dyeing left by our ancestors, the quaint paths and old houses full of historical flavor in Baisha are actually all treasures left to us by our ancestors. It's even more interesting to take pictures of the small commodities in the ancient town. The small gadgets in Baisha seem to be old, but they are very justified in being old. Because the food in Baisha Ancient Town is completely inversely proportional to the number of tourists, which makes the restaurants unable to cope, we simply tried the chickpea jelly that is everywhere on the street as lunch. The chickpea jelly sauce in the ancient town is a bit sour and tastes a little strange.

By Xiao Liu Da_ |

It is quieter than Shuhe Ancient Town. I like it here and the embroidery and fabrics.

By Xiao Yang |

Baisha Ancient Town has a long history and is mainly inhabited by Naxi people. This town is less commercialized and more primitive. The old artists in the village spontaneously organized charity performances to raise funds to save the Baisha Xi music that is on the verge of extinction. It is said that Baisha Xi music has a history of thousands of years.

By Cotton is warm |

Baisha Ancient Town is the closest ancient town to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. You can see Jade Dragon Snow Mountain from a distance when standing on the streets of the ancient town.

By ice cream |

Here you can see the shadow of Dayan Ancient Town in the 1980s. Because of tourism, Dayan and Shuhe have become commercialized. When I came to Shuhe in 2006, it was the current Baisha Ancient Town, very primitive and simple.

By Island Owner and Jasmine |

Baisha Ancient Town is not big, and we basically walked around it in more than two hours. It is still very quaint. Even on the main street, there are vegetable and meat stalls and convenience stores serving the locals. There are also Naxi grandmothers selling vegetables and fruits under the city gate.

The embroidery, homespun cloth and thangka here are worth noting.

You should visit Baisha Ancient Town at noon or in the afternoon when there are fewer people, making it a good time to take photos of local houses and Naxi elders.

Baisha Ancient Town does not have a strong commercial atmosphere, with only a small number of shops, and the prices are much cheaper than those in Shuhe and Dayan!

By Panpan220 |

Due to its remote location, it has not been overdeveloped and is a very original Naxi village.

An ancient town that has not yet been developed, sparsely populated. It is not as lively and prosperous as Lijiang Ancient Town and Shuhe Ancient Town. Here, a cup of tea, a book, and an afternoon

The cultural and artistic atmosphere of Baisha Ancient Town is stronger, and the buildings are relatively well preserved. There are more independent buildings of local residents in the town, and less commercial atmosphere. Baisha Jinxiu Art Academy is also Lijiang Jinxiu Vocational Training School. It has exquisite double-sided embroidery techniques. The works are very magnificent and lifelike, as if ignited vitality.

By Wang Meili took Lu Shadan and Chou Chou out to play |

The guide says there are many foreigners here. As expected, there are foreigners everywhere. The commercial atmosphere of Baisha Ancient Town is also weaker, which is also quite interesting. Because Baisha Ancient Town is relatively small, we finished the whole tour in about 40 minutes after dinner.

By Cosmos |

Just strolling around the town, the town without too much business further highlights the original flavor of Naxi.

By People of all colors |

I walked around the ancient town for a while. It was pristine, with many indigenous people and relatively few young people. Most of them were elderly people.

By Mugemanduo |

This is the oldest and most historical ancient town among the three. It is quiet, with few tourists and little commercial atmosphere. The Baisha murals are very famous, and the Baisha brocade embroidery is also a traditional craft that is about to be lost.

By MILO |

The most local and original of the three ancient cities in Lijiang, it is said that the Naxi people used to live here, and they slowly migrated to Dayan because of various reasons. Baisha is very small, but it is basically inhabited by aboriginals, and commercial development is very limited. The protection measures of the local government are still very good. This time, I passed by a scenic spot in Lijiang by cycling. I was lucky enough to encounter the annual market in Baisha Ancient Town. The ethnic characteristics came to me. Things in Baisha are very cheap, and they are all at the consumption level of local people. After lunch, I went to the home of the inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage to taste Yunnan black tea and learn the interesting Dongba script. It was a pleasant trip, but the government still needs to publicize and improve the environmental awareness of local people. The clear stream is full of domestic garbage, and the street environment is also very worrying. It is much worse than Shuhe and Dayan. As a tourist, I feel that this is a regret from the heart. I hope that Baisha can be clean.

By Left Left |

Two or three years ago, Baisha Ancient Town was still a dilapidated town with few people.

Today, the buildings here are still the same, except that there are more shops. It has finally started to develop like the old Lijiang Town. Baisha Ancient Town is located about ten miles north of the old Lijiang Town. It is also the birthplace of the Mu family, so here you can better trace the original Lijiang.

There are still many vendors selling agricultural and sideline products and special snacks on the streets. The taste here is better than that in Lijiang Old Town, and the price is much lower, so the cost performance is very high. If you don't like too much commercialization, you can come here to pursue a few days of ordinary life.

But the most distinctive feature here is its tie-dyeing technique.

Nowadays, young artists like to return to the basics, so they are becoming more and more fond of such traditional skills. There are many tie-dyed fabrics and patterns here, which are very beautiful.

Baisha Ancient Town is now becoming more commercialized, with all kinds of small shops.

By Susan |

Baisha Ancient Town is located at the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain. It is an ancient town that has not yet been fully developed. There are many businesses, but because there are not many tourists, there is still a lot of room for bargaining. There are many ethnic-dyed cloths and skirts here, which are very beautiful and worth buying. They are rarely sold outside.

In addition, there is a Baisha mural in the ancient town, which contains murals left over from the Naxi people and is worth visiting.

By Zhang Xiaobei |

Baisha Ancient Town is the ancient town with the most Naxi heritage, the most original Naxi village, and the oldest and most primitive of the three ancient towns in Lijiang. There is no hustle and bustle, no extravagance and decadence here, only blue sky, simplicity and tranquility.

By The Colonel's Goldfish |

The ancient town is located north of Lijiang Dayan Ancient Town and Shuhe Ancient Town. It is small in scale and not commercialized. I didn't buy a ticket to enter. I walked around outside and it was very local. You can take bus No. 6 from Lijiang Ancient Town Red Sun Square to get there directly.

By Rich Dad |

It is a very quaint town. Most of the people eating in the restaurants on the street are locals, and there are not many tourists. It has well inherited the ancient style. There is the only inheritor who can write Naxi characters here.

By Poor is so poor |

About 10 kilometers away from Lijiang Ancient Town, it is a small town that has not been invaded by commercial Wanquan. It is not large in area, with two main streets, and you can visit it in detail in an hour!

By Let it go, Yaya |

I think it is much better than Lijiang Ancient Town. It is small and quiet with fewer people. Suhe Ancient Town is also good. The two are very close.

By Water Sky |

It's worth a visit to this ancient town. Rent a battery car. There is a small shop at the corner of the street. It's very small, but the food is delicious.

By Moonlit Shallow Creek |

I guess you won't want to go there after seeing the photos I took, haha~~ Indeed, Baisha is a very inconspicuous place, with a strong local atmosphere, quiet and quaint. We may have gone there too early, so the shops were basically closed. In fact, I don't know whether they were open or not... But the things there are really cheap, so I bought a few bracelets and necklaces as souvenirs.

By Trailblazer |

This is really undeveloped. It feels like a village. All are local residents. Nothing worth seeing, but you can get a better understanding of the local situation

Baisha Town is an ancient town that truly retains its ancient style

Baisha Ancient Town is a world cultural heritage site, and the traditional Naxi architecture and culture are well preserved. It is recommended to visit the Baisha ancient murals if you have time.

I heard that this is the original appearance of Lijiang Ancient Town.

Very simple

Most people are not used to it, and would feel like they are in a rural village.

There are embroidery and tie-dyeing techniques here.

I also had a local snack.

A bean cake that can be fried or served cold

The taste is OK, but you can't eat too much or you'll get sick of it.

There is a very famous attraction in Baisha Ancient Town, "Baisha Murals". "Baisha Murals" are the product of the great opening of the Naxi society in the Ming Dynasty. Its painting lasted for more than 300 years from the early Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty. The late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty were the heyday of Lijiang murals, which have a history of 500 years.

This place is super pristine, with very few tourists and most shops half open and half closed.

Many older Naxi women would sit outside shops on the street, basking in the sun while doing some handicrafts, just like their daily life.

There are a few water bars here, and shops where you can participate in DIY activities, such as tie-dyeing.

Many tourists who come to Lijiang Ancient Town visit Dayan Ancient Town. But for those who like quietness and primitiveness, Baisha Ancient Town is the best choice. Why Dayan is no longer the Dayan of the past? It is because there are more tourists, commercial things have emerged, and the local residents have withdrawn, which has become what it is today. Baisha Ancient Town is original and undisturbed, and is the most ancient town with Naxi heritage. Out of interest in Lijiang Dongba culture, and out of wanting to contact more original Naxi ancient villages and more authentic Naxi people, I came to Baisha from Dayan. The ancient town is located at the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain. Looking up anywhere in the ancient town, you can see the cold face of Yulong Snow Mountain. For the overly popular Dayan Ancient Town, Baisha is an extremely quiet corner. There is no hustle and bustle, no extravagance, and walking into Baisha Ancient Town will give people a sense of quiet power. This place has not been developed, and everything is intact to maintain the simplicity and tranquility that a Naxi ancient town should have. The old people were sitting on the roadside, chatting and selling vegetables. They were not so serious about selling vegetables, as if they were just going through the motions, because they relied on their children for basic food and clothing. The town has little contact with the outside world and still maintains a lifestyle of farming, weaving and dyeing. The living conditions are more leisurely than Dayan. Tie-dyed fabrics can be seen drying outside everywhere. The tie-dyeing process is a unique folk dyeing and drying method. Since many families make a living from this, it constitutes the most beautiful scenery of Baisha Ancient Town. The tie-dye workshop here also has experience activities, which allows you to tie-dye a small piece of cloth into shape in a short time, but I went there a little late, and after the best drying time, I could only tie-dye with the dyed cloth.

Don't ask me why I give it five stars! I always come to this ancient town! I like the undeveloped appearance of Baisha! There are more foreign tourists here than Chinese! This is also the best ancient town for the preservation of Naxi culture. It is the only ancient town around Lijiang that is not commercialized. It is also the only way to Wenhai and Yulong Snow Mountain! Including Stone City, Blue Moon Valley, etc.!

慕名前去參觀壁畫,可惜古物已老朽斑駁。漫步於古鎮裡,遊人跟商家沒有麗江古城那樣多,反而更顯得寧靜舒心,值得一訪。

Baisha Ancient Town is one of the oldest market towns in Lijiang. It is the birthplace of the Tusi Mu family and the most primitive Naxi village, located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. There is a No. 6 bus in Lijiang Ancient Town, which can directly reach Baisha Ancient Town. Baisha Ancient Town is not big and does not require tickets. Compared with the commercial atmosphere and bustle of Lijiang Ancient Town, I prefer the tranquility and leisure of Baisha, which still maintains the original simplicity. Baisha Ancient Town has a very special snack: chicken bean jelly, which is baked with pine wood. You can try it.
