Xuesong Village, called "Wuluken" in the Naxi language, means "at the foot of the snow-capped mountains." This small village is also known as Yuhu Village because of the jade-like clear spring to its west. Xuesong Village was once the home of Joseph Locke, a National Geographic contributor, renowned photographer, and explorer. Locke captured over a thousand images of Yunnan's ethnic customs, translated numerous Dongba scriptures, and authored "The Ancient Naxi Kingdom of Southwest China" and "Naxi-English Encyclopedia." Locke's former residence is now preserved as it was when he lived there, and an exhibition hall has been opened to help more people learn about him.

Known locally as Yuhu Village, it's quite pristine and relatively sparsely populated, though villagers kept asking, "Want to ride horses?" along the way. The entrance fee to the small Locke Residence is incredibly expensive, and even more so for foreigners. The stone houses are unique, but the rest of the experience was pretty average. Yuhu Lake is located on the east fork at the north end of the village. I finally saw it after I reached the broken leg. The lake isn't large, but the backdrop of snow-capped mountains and meadows is very romantic, and I didn't encounter many tourists.
Combining history and scenery,
With the blessing of Locke's old residence, the scenery of Snow Mountain Jade Lake, and the extensive use of rolling stones from Jade Dragon Snow Mountain,
It is a village with unique characteristics.
When talking about Lijiang, most people would think of Dayan Ancient Town for romantic encounters, or Shuhe Ancient Town for tranquility, but few would mention Yuhu Village.
It takes about forty minutes to take a bus from Lijiang to Xiangshan Market and then transfer to a bus to Yuhu Village. The feeling when you just get off the bus is completely different from that of the ancient city, with a simple atmosphere.
Almost everywhere you look, stone houses and stone roads are a distinct Naxi tradition. The houses in Yuhu Village are almost entirely built of local stone, with wooden structures, creating a simple and authentic feel. Naxi people often hang fish on the ridges of their roofs. Fish represents water in the Five Elements, and since water extinguishes fire, it symbolizes that the house will not catch fire. Hanging a fish symbolizes the presence of water, which can extinguish fire.
Known as the first village at the foot of the snow-capped mountains, it is where American journalist Joseph Rock once lived. The entire village is built in the original Naxi architectural style. It is a stone-built village and is currently partially developed. Friends who like to experience the local ethnic minority customs should not miss it.
The houses in Yuhu Village are all built of large stones. Every household has a few docile, short-legged Yunnan horses grazing outside their doors, and women fawningly promote their horseback riding tours along the lake. The village road is also made of stones, one foot high and one foot low, like a free foot massage from Mother Nature, albeit a poorly done one, with acupressure points randomly pressed and piles of horse manure scattered across the road. Navigating the village is truly a difficult task.
We continued walking towards the legendary, sacred Dragon Girl Lake at the foot of the beautiful snow-capped mountains. A deserted road stretched out before us, leaving the village untouched. Without the shelter of houses, the strong winds, surging down from the snow-capped mountains, began to push us recklessly. We felt the powerful push, like two prisoners being escorted by nature on the road, stumbling and scrambling. To the right of the road lay a desolate field, unprecedented and unparalleled, with endless yellow and white dead grass stretching out in between. Finally, we reached Dragon Girl Lake with great difficulty. WTF? It looked like a miniature reservoir, didn't it? A closer look revealed the water was still mixed with mud and sand, and even the desire to seduce the Dragon Girl was gone. On the pebble beach by the lake was a discarded shoe discarded by some travel photographer. For a moment, I thought it was a relic of the Dragon Girl's elopement.
The village is very quaint and basically undeveloped, quiet and peaceful. Recommended index 5 stars
This is a photography paradise. There's no entrance fee to the village, so driving is recommended. Legend has it that this place is inhabited by deer herders, who maintain a traditional lifestyle and enjoy the bounty of the snow-capped mountains. Far from the bustle of the ancient town, Xuesong Village's houses are built entirely of stone from Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and the roads are paved with stone. It's a true stone village, but these aren't just ordinary stones. These stones are said to contain gold, so the villagers actually live in a gold mine. Every stone gleams golden in the sunlight! Hiking used to be possible from Xuesong Village, but this is no longer permitted since the discovery of gold. The village boasts several farmhouses offering delicious and affordable meals, and there's no overt commercial presence.
The village is nestled against a mountainside, surrounded by a pine forest. The local Naxi people have built small stone courtyards, creating a unified village with a quaint charm. Bring your DSLR camera to capture some authentic photos; taking a photoshoot in this location is a great idea. Young women will definitely enjoy it, and wearing the local costumes adds a touch of flair.
There's free parking at the entrance of the village. The stone houses and herds of horses give it a rustic, unspoiled feel. Elderly people sit idle, dogs wander the streets, and the silence is only audible to the sounds of one's own footsteps and breathing. Of course, the scattered horse manure adds a complex aroma to the air.
This small stone village, home to botanist John Locke, is an ancient Naxi village at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It's said that due to the frequent visits of foreigners to explore and settle here in the early days, and given Lijiang's status as a key town on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, the people here are quite open-minded rather than closed.
I like this place very much. It is not crowded and you can spend half a day here. You can take bus No. 17 from Dayan Ancient Town, which runs every 80 minutes.
Xuesong Village was incredibly quiet at night. The next day, as agreed the day before, the innkeeper took us to the village stables to select horses. Each of us was assigned a groom to lead the horses, and thus began our mountaineering adventure. At first, I was quite nervous, and the horses' jolting was noticeable, but I gradually got used to it, especially since I have to have faith in my horses. Our first stop was Mahuangba, named for the leeches that infest it during the rainy season. We then reached the alpine meadows. Looking down from the mountain, I felt a sense of grandeur, as if I were standing on top of a mountain, overlooking all the other mountains. Fortunately, there were still large expanses of unmelted snow. The descent was even more terrifying than the ascent. I felt like I was almost standing upside down, especially when we reached the steepest slopes. To prevent the horses from slipping, we had to dismount and walk. My nerves were on edge the entire way down, and I finally breathed a sigh of relief when we finally reached the bottom.
The Naxi dwellings here are all built of stone. Walking into the village feels like stepping into an ancient, mysterious mountain forest. A gravel path is lined with low stone houses, and lush branches sprout from the tops of the stone walls. Small, pink, unidentified flowers bloom on these branches, swaying in the spring breeze.
We arrived at the gate of a large courtyard, its doors wide open. An elderly man, holding a water hose, sprayed water on the flower baskets hanging from the wall and the pots on the ground. A few trees, whose names I didn't know, grew by the wall. While not as sophisticated and stylish as the courtyards of the residential buildings in Lijiang Old Town, they were still very neat and tidy. It's clear that the Naxi people, no matter where they live, yearn for a better life!
I came to Xuesong Village specifically because of an Austrian-American scholar named Locke who lived and worked here for 27 years.
The houses here still retain their original appearance.
There is a Jade Lake at the foot of the mountain, so Xuesong Village is also called Jade Lake Village. The Jade Lake reflects the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
The village's spring water is as clear as emerald green, and the surrounding scenery is as beautiful as a beautiful jade. This is a paradise on earth, the most beautiful place.
Xuesong Village is a beautiful little village nestled on the slopes of the pristine Daxueshan Mountains in Lijiang. This was my second visit to the village. To the west of the village lies a clear, jade-like spring called "Yuhu," hence the village's nickname: Yuhu Village. The lake itself isn't large, but the scenery is delightful.
Most of the locals call Shitou Village Yuhu Village. It can be said to be the place with the least commercial atmosphere around Lijiang. It is also the ancient village closest to the snow-capped mountains. It was once the residence of the famous American explorer and photographer Joseph Rock.
If you want to see the more natural Lijiang people, or prefer a quieter environment and want to experience the local culture of Naxi farmers, you must visit Shitou Village. Yuhu Village is about 10 kilometers from Dayan Town and can be reached by taking bus No. 7 from Lijiang. You can also charter a car or ride a bicycle.
Many families here like to keep dogs. They are so cute and often stand in front of the door watching the road.
However, there are not many local tourists, and many shop owners often sit in front of their doors playing with their mobile phones or daydreaming, and rarely take the initiative to shout out.
Having seen the film "Stone City Above the Clouds," I was eager to experience the life of the Naxi people up close, so I took advantage of the early morning to visit the ancient Naxi village of Yuhu Village. I took bus No. 17 directly from Qingxi Reservoir to the final stop, Yuhu Village, and the scenery along the way was breathtaking. Located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the village is an uphill stone road, and the houses are all built of stone. The village is very quiet. A short distance up the village, you'll find the Locke Former Residence, but it's closed, so I only had a quick look around the perimeter. Further up the village road, there's a small pavilion, with Jade Pillars to the left and Jade Lake to the right. After wandering around for about half an hour, I was about to head back when I realized there were no buses into the town. I chatted with the woman resting at the entrance and learned that my bus was the last one. She told me that nearly every household here keeps horses. Even in summer, the temperature difference between morning and evening is so great that people usually wear coats. The locals are very helpful. Seeing that I couldn't get a taxi back to the city, she tried to flag down a passing car for me, but it didn't work. In the end, she found a neighbor's son to drive me back to the city. I'm so grateful to this kind and beautiful Naxi woman.
Tips: If you want to go horseback riding at Yuhu Lake, be sure to go before 4 p.m. There are no buses into the city after 6 p.m., and there are very few cars on the road, so it's hard to get a taxi.
I went to Xuesong in 2012, now renamed Yuhu. Inside, there's the Yubi Jinchuan scenic area, which truly embodies the ultimate experience of being a Tusi in the Mufu area. Looking at the snow-capped mountains, fishing for salmon, and enjoying the lush greenery and flowers alongside the flowing streams was truly wonderful. The villagers rely on horseback riding and corn sales for income. I found a little kid, gave him a lollipop, and took a photo with him. He then took us up the mountain. The path up the mountain led to Yubi Jinchuan. We didn't buy a ticket, but I guess I can do that now.
I went there once last year on the recommendation of the owner of Shuheyuan Inn. I fell in love with this quaint and quiet village the first time I went there. Unfortunately, the weather was not good when I came last year. It was sometimes windy and sometimes rainy, so I left with regret before I could walk to the edge of Yuhu Lake.
Many villagers in Yuhu Village brought their horses and asked if we wanted to ride up the snow-capped mountains. The houses in Yuhu Village are all stone houses. Every household has a courtyard, and the gates are full of various flowers. I really like it. We walked around and took pictures. We could take pictures of a courtyard gate or an alley for a long time. I didn’t get to walk to the lake during my two trips to Yuhu Village, which shows how much I like this village.
Love, I love every courtyard, every bouquet of flowers, and every scenery.
The authentic Naxi village is located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The houses in the village are all made of stone. The village is not big, and almost every household has a Yunnan horse. There is also a beautiful Xuesongyuan Villa Yulu Design Hotel in the village. If you have time to stay for two days, it will be a real vacation life.
It's not bad, the best time to go is in April. The grass is dry at this time.
We rode all the way from Dayan to Yuhu Village, going uphill against the wind, but the scenery along the way was really beautiful!
There are many buses from No. 17 to Yuhu, not just four as mentioned before. The schedule of the buses will be uploaded below. It is the latest schedule I took on No. 17 bus and provided it to those who are traveling independently.
Bus departure time between Yuhu Village and Xiangshan Market
The closest Naxi primitive village to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain has no signs of commercialization yet, but many inns or shops are still under construction, and there are construction vehicles and houses everywhere. The town is small, with only one decent supermarket. There are also 1-2 good inns, not many tourists, and almost no service items. There is a caravan attraction, but it seems that it is not open. If you want to experience the primitive village, you can come here to have a look.
There is a Naxi village at the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain. Bus No. 17 goes directly to the village (Xiangshan Market - Yuhu Village), but there are only four buses a day. The drivers always leave early, so be careful not to miss the bus. There is an "invitation" to ride a horse when entering the village. When you enter the village, you will see a building similar to a "water tower". Walk to the right for ten minutes and you will find a large alpine meadow and a small lake, which is perfect for taking photos.
It is very convenient to take bus No. 17 directly to Yuhu Village. The bus stop is right at the stone pavilion at the entrance of the village... You can ride horses up the mountain. The villagers will "enthusiastically" lead you to the ticket office, but they will disperse when they find out we are hiking... If you hike, you can just get off the bus and walk up to the village. Along the way, you can take pictures of the original Naxi houses. When you get to the top and see the pavilion, it will be like a three-way intersection. Please note: turn left to reach Yuzhu (is that the name?). The ticket price is ¥20. The scenery is nice and you can visit it. Although it is said to be man-made, it looks good in photos... If you go straight, you will be stopped. It turns out that going straight is the way to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and avoid the ticket (at noon, we went the wrong way to find Yuhu and went up. There was no one on the roadside at that time, so we went up smoothly. However, after we found out that it was the way up the mountain, we turned back and were stopped by someone. If you want to go up the mountain, it depends on your luck)...Here comes the highlight! Turn right and you'll find Yuhu Lake, which is completely free and requires no entrance fee. After leaving the village, you'll walk up a dirt road (I walked for 20 minutes at my own pace). Along the way, I couldn't see the low-lying Yuhu Lake, so my husband kept suspecting I'd taken the wrong path. However, I firmly believed that the red arrows that appeared on the ground from the right turn onward must have been kind tourists guiding us. Sure enough, we finally reached Yuhu Lake, enjoying the breeze and gazing at the azure Yuhu Lake on the meadow. Behind us was the road the horse team had taken up the mountain. I felt very happy.
Yuhu Village, located at the southern foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, is called "Wuluken" in the Naxi language, meaning "village at the foot of the snow-capped mountain." In 1922, Joseph Rock entered Yunnan, China, from the Thai-Myanmar border as an explorer, writer, and photographer for National Geographic and Harvard University's Yenching Botanical Institute. He lived at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain for 27 years, most of which he spent in Yuhu Village.
Great! Has anyone gone there in November?
How can I get to Yuhu Village from Dayan Ancient City? Thank you
There is a stone village at the foot of the snow-capped mountains. It is a bit commercialized, but the village is really unique.
At the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain, Locke's former residence is also inside
A very unique Naxi village with beautiful scenery and few tourists! I recommend Yuzhu Qingtian, the scenery is beautiful. It should be very beautiful in autumn when the maple leaves turn red!
Very comfortable, I like it here, I really relax myself...
The real Naxi people are here. They like to come to places with few people.
Personally, I think it is the most recommended place to visit in Lijiang!
This unique Naxi village is quaint and untouched, rarely visited by tourists, and can be explored in about 1-2 hours. Horseback riding is available in the village, but I didn't ride and don't know the price. Jade Pillars to the Sky are also said to be worth seeing. It's common to combine Baisha Ancient Town, Wenhai, and Yuhu Village. A chartered car from Lijiang for a day trip costs around 260 yuan. Those who enjoy art will love this itinerary. The scenery along the way is like a painting.
Another name for it is Yuhu Village, nestled at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain... It's a very peaceful village, worth a visit if you have the time or interest. There's also a scenic spot nearby called Yulong Lake, which you can reach on horseback.
This village is also famous because of a man named Locke, who is a photographer, explorer and botanist of the American National Geographic Magazine.
There are many small succulent plants on the eaves of Yuhu Village (succulent plants)
In Lijiang, I stumbled upon Yuhu Village, nestled at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. A village built entirely of stone, its houses and structures are rarely visited. In fact, this village became famous entirely because of a foreigner. Countless Westerners, inspired by an article published in National Geographic by an American named Rock, have come to Yunnan, Lijiang, and the ancient village where Rock lived and worked for many years. The road leading into the village is sloping and undulating. Unlike the bluestone paving of other ancient towns, Yuhu Village's roads are paved with large and small stones, so be mindful of where you walk. Yuhu Village's most distinctive feature is that its houses and walls are essentially constructed of stacked stone, creating a truly primitive atmosphere, so primitive that even the stones themselves are covered in hair. The village is sparsely populated, not only by outsiders but also by locals. Perhaps because I haven't explored it extensively, I feel the atmosphere of life here is a bit lacking. Legend has it that a vast gold mine lies beneath Yuhu Village, but due to the protection of the Jade Dragon Mountain Range, mining is prohibited. As a result, the village has remained largely untouched, preserving its pristine beauty for centuries. The weather wasn't good, and the villagers weren't out much. Only a few passed by on the road, some carrying fruits and vegetables, some holding children, and some elderly women in distinctive Naxi folk costumes, their heads down, walking. Everything was as ordinary as Baishui, but it was a small blessing that belonged to this place. I only had a brief taste of Yuhu Village. In terms of originality, Yuhu Village is perhaps the most quaint and unique of the several ancient towns I've visited. Let this small town at the foot of the snow-capped mountains quietly continue its own story.
It is definitely worth a visit. The village is very quaint and the scenery is really amazing. It is a unique Naxi ancient village.
It's quite beautiful and worth a visit, though transportation is a bit inconvenient. The friendly staff were quite enthusiastic in promoting horseback riding and buying garlands. Here's the latest bus schedule for bus 13, as it's almost impossible to find online. For Yuhu (the one in the picture), turn right at the entrance to the village, then walk up until you see a pavilion. Turn right again and walk about ten minutes. On a clear day, the sun can be quite bright, so bring sunscreen.
There are many tourists who come here to ride horses to the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Walking on the cobblestone village road, it feels a bit like the ancient road with a thin horse in the west wind.
Bus route 17 from Lijiang to Yuhu Village: 20161126 bus change notice: increased frequency, 1 yuan fare. Few tourists, though the village seems to be repairing the road to Yuhu. It's windy there, but the scenery is beautiful.
The wind is cool and strong, and it feels really good to blow my hair. I feel like I am the only one in the world, and the sky is very blue. If you like literature and art, you should go there. The most beautiful thing about coming to Lijiang is to touch the ground.
A very quiet little village, nestled on a hillside with uneven terrain. Nearby are Jade Lake and Jade Pillars, both well worth a visit.
I highly recommend it. You must go. The bus time is in my travel notes. It is really beautiful. It is a very quiet village close to the snow-capped mountains.
A small village at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the people are simple and the architecture is distinctively local. Every year during the blooming season, the grounds are covered with small blossoms, creating a truly beautiful scene. A highly recommended alternative to the ancient city and the snow-capped mountains.
The scenery is beautiful. The village is built of stones and is very distinctive. However, the "horse" team formed by the villagers has caused poor sanitation. Tourists have to find a place to avoid the horse team and the horse manure on the ground when appreciating the stone village.
The first village at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. You can see the snow mountain just by looking up. If you ride a bike, you must come and see it. You can ride a horse up the mountain.
The scenery is actually quite nice, but it's a bit too commercialized, so be careful not to get ripped off by the locals. The lake is also incredibly clear, stocked with a variety of fish from the local snow-capped mountains. There's also the Rock Museum, a unique building made entirely of wood, no concrete. It feels like a place with a strong sense of local life. It must be a wonderful place to live. Gazing at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and occasionally strolling around the lake—what a wonderful life!
Correcting the traffic route on China-TravelNote, to reach Yuhu Village, you should take bus No. 17, the starting station is Xiangshan Market, there are four buses a day, the departure times are 7:00, 10:00, 14:00, 17:30. It takes half an hour to get to Yuhu Village from Xiangshan Market, and the departure times from Yuhu Village are 7:30, 10:30, 14:30, 18:00.
Yuhu Village, also known as Xuesong Village and known locally as Stone Village, is nestled against the backdrop of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and flanked by Jade Lake, making it a prime feng shui location. The village was discovered and promoted by American John Locke, who lived here for 27 years. His former residence still exists in the village.
Yuhu Village's most distinctive feature is its stone-walled houses, which are wooden structures, most of which are decorated with wood carvings. The courtyards are paved with cobblestones in various patterns, creating a grand and beautiful architecture with a distinctly ethnic feel. The village roads are also paved with cobblestones, creating a unified, ancient charm throughout. Walking along the village, you'll find a scenic spot halfway up the mountain: Jade Pillars Supporting the Sky. Climbing to this vantage point offers a panoramic view of Yuhu Village, with the mountains, water, and houses all at your feet, creating a breathtaking view. The village also offers a variety of horseback riding opportunities, including rides around the village and up the mountain.
Yuhu Village doesn't have many tourists, and the locals are friendly and welcoming. The locals even invited us into their courtyards to visit and take photos. The food and beverage prices here are also quite reasonable, and the owners we met are very simple and honest.
You can reach Shitou Village by taking bus No. 17. The starting station is Xiangshan Market. There are four buses a day, with departure times at 7:00, 10:00, 14:00, and 17:30. It takes half an hour to reach Yuhu Village and then returns immediately.
The Stone Village is Yuhu Village. Located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, it was discovered and promoted by the American John Locke. Yuhu Village's most distinctive feature is that every house has stone walls and wooden structures, most of which are decorated with wood carvings. The courtyards are paved with cobblestones in various patterns, creating a grand and beautiful architecture with a distinct ethnic feel. The village roads are also paved with cobblestones, giving the entire village a unified style and an ancient charm.
The village houses the former residence of Locke. Walking along the village, you'll find a scenic spot halfway up the mountain: Jade Pillars Reaching the Sky. From there, you can overlook Yuhu Village, with the mountains, water, and houses all at your feet, creating a vast expanse. The village also offers a variety of horseback riding opportunities, including circumnavigating the village and ascending the mountain. Yuhu Village isn't crowded with tourists, and the food and beverages are reasonably priced. The locals are friendly and welcoming, and they even invited us into their courtyard for a tour.
A small stone village that has not been developed much, so the houses are all built of original ecological stones. The scenery is good, at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
It is very unique and there are few tourists. You can walk slowly and see the ancient Naxi village at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
A great spot for short bike rides around Lijiang. Legend has it that this was the first village established by the Naxi people after crossing Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Also known as Stone Village, the houses are built from large stones. On a clear day, the view of the snow-capped mountains from Jade Lake is breathtaking.
A Naxi village at the foot of the snow-capped mountains. It's a very quaint place, peaceful and quiet.
You can take a bus from the entrance of Fuhui Street Market in Xincheng District, and then walk to the bottom of Dongba Pantheon Garden to reach this place.
This place is very interesting because it became famous thanks to a man named Locke, who lived in Xuesong Village to collect animal and plant specimens from Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. After watching a Dongba festival, he turned to studying Dongba culture and eventually became the father of Naxi studies. He published a large number of photos in National Geographic, so this village became famous, but many tourists don't know about it.
It's a very quiet place here. I personally like two places: Locke's former residence and Jade Lake. Locke's former residence is a courtyard with three rooms. Inside, there are relics such as a bed, a brazier, a bookshelf, and an alarm clock, as well as published photos. Among them, the hunting rifle and cowhide suitcase are said to be personal belongings that Locke brought with him. Jade Lake is very beautiful, with clear snow water, swaying water plants, and the blue sky and white clouds against the backdrop of the towering Jade Dragon Snow Peak, reflected in the lake. It seems that nature has settled at the bottom of the lake.
It is also worth noting that this village is at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, so the temperature is much lower than in Lijiang and is relatively cold. It is recommended to bring an extra coat if it is not summer. If you go there in summer, it is very suitable for summer vacation.
This is a relatively unpopular tourist attraction. People who don’t like the hustle and bustle of Lijiang might also try it.
Yuhu Village is the village closest to the snow-capped mountains. The houses and roads in this village are all made of stone, and they look primitive.
If you don't hire a car, you can only drive there by yourself.
Remember, if you take the bus to Yuhu Village, you must go to the terminal station, and don't get off at the Yuhu fork. During the Spring Festival, beautiful places are teeming with people, and Yuhu Village is no exception. However, only on this main ancient road in Yuhu Village is the traffic bustling with cars and horses.
Leaving the ancient road and entering the village, we were the only ones there besides the villagers. I love this kind of quietness the most.
Compared to Baisha, I think Xuesong is more beautiful. The houses are all made of large stones, arranged in an orderly manner. If you look up, you can see the snow-capped mountains and the blue sky not far away.
I think Locke is a very visionary person. He was able to discover Xuesong Village at the foot of the beautiful Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, live there for so many years in a foreign country, and later told and discovered it to future generations, so that we also came to this quiet town from afar.
Here are the Naxi old ladies who live a quiet life. They lead a peaceful and undisturbed life under the blue sky and white clouds and at the foot of the snow-capped mountains.
Not far from the town, behind the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, there is a vast lawn. It is said to be an abandoned airport, but I have no way to verify this.
When we came out of Xuesong Village that day and saw the lawn, Lei was so excited that he ran, laughed, and let himself go on the big lawn like a child...
Yuhu Village and Baisha Ancient Town are basically visited by independent travelers, as they have not been well developed. However, what I saw here was the real simple folk customs, which were completely non-utilitarian. In addition, there were few people there, and it seemed as if the whole world belonged to me, and I felt very open-minded.
Yuhu Village is not big. Walking on the cobblestone road leading to the snow-capped mountains, you will see yellow houses made of a mixture of stones and mud on both sides. Various flowers and trees are hanging on the walls and growing vigorously. Puppies and native chickens are strolling leisurely in the village. In Yuhu, you can still walk calmly like the explorer Locke and feel the tranquility and beauty of this ancient Naxi village.
Arrived at Yuhu Village, the first village at the foot of the snow-capped mountains. Because all the buildings in the village are made of stone, it is named Stone City.
It is Yuhu Village. The whole village is built with stone. You can ride a horse to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
This primitive little village nestled at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is quiet and peaceful!
Xuesong Village was arguably my most anticipated trip in Lijiang, but it ultimately proved to be the most disappointing. We had originally planned to stroll around the village and then ride up to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, figuring it would be better than taking the cable car up and snapping photos. But the ride wasn't even possible! The fee was 380 yuan per person, and the riders stopped us if we didn't reach our designated spot. We had to get down and walk back up, and even after reaching our designated spot, we still had to hike for over two hours to see the snow-capped mountains. It was a terrible experience. I even ran into other guests who had been ripped off and were ready to confront them. The village itself was fine, but the horseback ride was a rip-off.
The village is located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Yuhu Village is more fun than Baisha, but the transportation is not very convenient.
Yuhu Village is located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The locals are all inhabited by the Naxi ethnic group. There is no convenient transportation, but the mountains are green, the sky is blue, and people's hearts are warm.
Yuhu Village is a village made entirely of stone. It is not much developed and there are not many tourists. It is located at the foot of Yulong Mountain. If you drive there yourself, you can also go and take a look.
There is no need to go to Lijiang Old Town or anything else. Friends who come to Lijiang should go directly here! It is absolutely beautiful~
I absolutely love this place. Perhaps this is the Lijiang of decades ago. Beautiful stone houses, traces of the Luoke people, kind-hearted Naxi people, mules, horses, and big dogs in every household, and children running wild. Even elderly strangers greeted us and offered their best wishes as we drove by.
A small village at the foot of the snow-capped mountains, its houses mostly made of stone. There seem to be only two daily buses between the village and Lijiang. The villagers have fenced off the village to make money, and outsiders can't enter without a horseback ride, which is at least 350 people. I went there with my parents, and they wouldn't let us in without horses. Then a kind old villager took pity on us and took us on a detour to see the snow-capped mountains and Jade Lake. At the foot of the mountains lies a mysterious mansion with a large pond (see picture). Villagers say the owner has been away for a long time and is rumored to be a high-ranking official from Yunnan...
Xuesong Village has become famous in recent years for its horseback riding tours up Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, offering stunning views and a close-up experience. The route generally starts at Xuesong Village or the nearby Yushuizhai, then ascends to several meadows midway up the mountain, offering a close-up view of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The experience is both leisurely and thrilling, and the scenery along the meadows is captivating. It's highly recommended if you have the time.
Walking along the valley, in the distance, there are smoke from cooking fires on the plains, and there are villages everywhere. It looks really beautiful. There are many artificial ponds along the way, but the sky is so beautiful that the sun shines down and the water shimmers, and even such an artificial pond instantly becomes beautiful. The characteristic of the village is that the houses are all built of stone, which is a different style from Lijiang, which is full of wooden houses.
The small lake formed by the snow water on the mountain is crystal clear.
Yuhu Village (Wuluken), a village at the foot of a truly snow-capped mountain, boasts unique stone houses. Although commercialized, it's still relatively untouched, and the villagers remain quite simple (no need for horseback riding). The water is crystal clear, and fish swim so vividly that even their scales are visible. In 1922, American photographer John Locke arrived here as a photographer for National Geographic and stayed for 27 years. The village houses Locke's former residence. The Jade Lake within is an artificial lake dug by the Mu family before the Ming Dynasty, and it also houses the Yulong Academy. A must-see when visiting Lijiang: stroll, hike, or simply spend a day wandering.
