Baidi

白堤

Formerly named Baisha Dike, it is a hub connecting the city and the scenic area. Bai Juyi's famous line "I love walking along the Baisha Dike in the shade of green willows on the east side of the lake" refers to this place.
There are neatly planted willows and peach trees on both sides of the road. Looking up, you can see the beautiful scenery of West Lake, which is very suitable for a leisurely stroll.
It is suitable to visit Baidi in all seasons. If you go there in spring, you can see the panoramic view of Baidi with pink peach blossoms and green willows on the opposite Beishan Road, and the photos you take will be the most beautiful.
The Bai Causeway is about 1 kilometer long and can be visited on foot. It is best to visit it in the morning or evening to avoid the peak tourist season.

The West Lake, plus the scenic spots along the lakeside, are too numerous to see in one day, so today I came to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the West Lake again.

Today’s lake tour begins with the Broken Bridge and Remaining Snow, one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake.

Although it is impossible to experience the beautiful scenery of the remaining snow in winter, it is still a wonderful thing to climb the Broken Bridge, stroll along the Baidi Bridge, bathe in the spring breeze, and admire the flowers and willows.

By Qingshui Tingyin |

Baidi Causeway is closely connected to Broken Bridge. It was originally named "Baisha Causeway". It is said that the poem by Bai Juyi, "I love walking along the east side of the lake the most, Baisha Causeway under the shade of green willows" refers to this place. People believe that Baidi Causeway was built under the supervision of Bai Juyi when he was the governor of Hangzhou. However, there are historical records saying that the dam built by Bai Juyi near Shihan Bridge was called "Baigong Causeway", which has long been lost. As for this one, it is also called Baidi Causeway, probably because people miss and love Baigong.

It is early spring, and the Baidi Bridge is quiet and beautiful under the night sky. When the willow branches grow green leaves and the roadside is full of flowers, the Baidi Bridge will be even more beautiful.

Walking along the embankment, we arrived at the "Peaceful Lake Autumn Moon", one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake. The only thing missing from this night of West Lake under the shining lights is a bright moon. Unfortunately, we can only see the inscription "Peaceful Lake Autumn Moon". We will not be able to see the beautiful scenery of "the harmony of lake light and autumn moon" tonight.

Going further, you will come across the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, the Xiling Seal Society, the Tomb of Wu Song, the Tomb of Su Xiaoxiao... It turns out that so many legendary stories and so many famous figures can be found by the West Lake.

Baidi Bridge, formerly known as Baishadi, is the link between the urban area of Hangzhou and the scenic area. It starts from "Broken Bridge and Residual Snow" in the east, passes through Jindai Bridge and ends at "Pinghu Autumn Moon" in the west. It is about 2 miles long.

Bai Juyi has a poem that says: "I love walking along the east side of the lake, the white sand embankment under the shade of green willows." It refers to this Baidi

The Baidi Bridge is densely planted with weeping willows by the lake, and the outer layer is covered with peach blossoms of various colors. The lake is misty. The Jindai Bridge, which starts from the Broken Bridge in the east and ends at the Pinghu Qiuyue in the west, was formerly known as the Bihan Bridge. This Jindai Bridge is mistaken by many Chinese and foreign tourists as the Broken Bridge.

Baidi Bridge is 1 km long. It is the place where Xu Xian and Bai Niangzi met in the "Legend of the White Snake". It adds a lot of romance to this long bridge, but the scenery is slightly inferior to Su Causeway. To walk on Baidi Bridge, you should walk from the Broken Bridge to the Solitary Mountain. This way you can see the beautiful scenery of distant mountains and green islands floating on the water. If you want to take pictures of Baidi Bridge, you can't walk too close, otherwise you can't take a full picture.

Although it is winter, walking lazily on the Bai Causeway, it seems like spring is still here. I have walked here countless times, but it is hard to recall the mood and feelings I had the last time I came. Standing in front of the Pinghu Qiuyue Stone Monument, the warm sun shining on the lake is still so dazzling. Leaning on the railing, I subconsciously feel extremely satisfied.

Among the "Three Embankments of West Lake", Bai Causeway has the most profound impression on me because of the poem "Spring Tour of Qiantang Lake" by Bai Juyi in the Chinese textbook. Walking on Bai Causeway, I recalled the words "I love the white sand embankment under the shade of green willows on the east side of the lake the most", and I couldn't help but sigh that even after a thousand years, West Lake and Bai Causeway are still pleasant. Just like the works of Xiangshan hermit, they will not lose their brilliance with the passage of time.

By Timothy |

There is nothing much to say, it is just a dike in the West Lake, it is nice to come here to enjoy the cool at night. As for the history, I won't say much here, there is no ticket, I came on the evening of May 5th, after the May Day holiday, there were not many people.

The winter snow is the most beautiful, so the Broken Bridge and the Remaining Snow has become one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake.

It is so pleasant to take a walk here. When I see people jogging, I envy them for being able to exercise by the West Lake.

The lake water on both sides of the Baidi Bridge surged with the wind, and the pagoda in the distance was hidden in the mist. Cruise ships kept passing by, and I guess we became a visible sight to the tourists on the ships.

Bai Juyi's poem "I love the white sand embankment under the shade of green willows on the east side of the lake" made this embankment, which is less than 1 km long, famous all over the world.

I love walking along the east side of the lake, and the white sand embankment under the shade of green willows.

By Curious Cat Zhao Zhao |

The willows on Baidi have been famous since ancient times. Bai Juyi's poem, "I love the white sand embankment under the shade of green willows on the east side of the lake, is about this Baidi." Over the years, the willows on Baidi have been replaced one after another, and there are always 146 of them. The nearly one-kilometer-long Baidi has a willow tree planted about every 10 meters, and this number is the number planted all the way. The interspersed willows and peach trees are the most famous characteristic landscape of Baidi. The same standard as the willows, a peach tree is planted every 10 meters, and there are 144 trees from beginning to end. Moreover, every willow tree on Baidi was carefully selected from all over the country. The beauty of Baidi is so meticulously crafted that even taking a photo with it seems a little weak, and I don't want to listen to the many impatient voices shouting in my ears that we should walk to the Broken Bridge in ten minutes.

By Riding a donkey to Lhasa |

The Baidi Bridge is a bit deserted in winter. There are no pink peach blossoms and green willows in April, only large areas of withered lotus leaves.

By Groundhog |

The willows are fluttering, the peach blossoms are red and the willows are green, the artistic conception is very beautiful. How can there be such a beautiful place in Huguang Mountains and Waters?

By Ranran loves traveling |

Although there were many people, the willow trees swaying in the wind on both sides of the Bai Causeway still made us feel relaxed and comfortable. Walking on the embankment, the water of West Lake was on both sides, and looking to the north, we could see the Baochu Pagoda on Baoshishan Mountain.

By Sika |

The Bai Causeway is not long, and there are many small fish fry in the lake beside the embankment. You can rent a boat to tour the lake, but time does not allow it today, so let's give up.

By Shark |

Formerly known as Baisha Dike, it is connected to the Broken Bridge at one end and Pinghu Qiuyue and Gushan at the other end, with a flat asphalt road in the middle. Bai Juyi's famous line "I love walking along the Baisha Dike in the shade of green willows on the east side of the lake" refers to this place. It was raining when we went there, so we couldn't take photos of the beauty. It is indeed a great place with green willows on both sides.

By T_d! |

There are willow trees on both sides of the Baidi Bridge, and the wind blows in nicely.

By Lin Family Girl |

It is really pleasant to sit on the boat and watch the Broken Bridge crowded with tourists, and the rows of willows on the Bai Causeway swaying in the wind. Or stroll along the Bai Causeway and enjoy a leisurely time, which is great!

By ST |

The vegetation on Baidi is not as abundant as that on Sudi, but the scenery is no less beautiful.

By A grain of fish |

The West Lake scenic area is generally good, but you need to buy a boat ticket to go to some of the islands.

By Time |

After walking across the Broken Bridge, you will see the long Bai Causeway. According to legend, it was built under the supervision of the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi. Willows were planted on both sides of the embankment. The willows at this time are exactly worthy of the line in an ancient poem: "The green willows are just half turning yellow."

At the other end of the Baidi Bridge are the Fanghe Pavilion, Louwailou, Zhejiang Provincial Museum, etc. From the top of the Baidi Bridge, I saw what seemed to be a pink cloud in front of me, so I headed straight there. When I got closer, I saw that flowers were blooming, and there were many tourists admiring the flowers, constantly raising their cameras to take pictures.

By Watching the clouds roll in and out |

Bai Juyi's "Spring Tour on Qiantang Lake" perfectly interprets the spring on Baidi Bridge.

To the north of Gushan Temple and to the west of Jiating, the water surface is just beginning to level off, the clouds are low, a few early orioles are competing for the warm trees, someone's new swallows are pecking at the spring mud, the flowers are gradually dazzling, only the shallow grass can cover the horse's hooves. I love walking on the east side of the lake, the white sand embankment under the shade of green willows.

Pink peach blossoms and green willows are the standard features of Baidi in spring.

Walking along the Baidi Bridge in spring is like being in the arms of spring.

The drizzle, the spring breeze, the willows, the peach trees, everything is just right...

By In a hurry |

On the embankment, willow trees are swaying and peach blossoms are in full bloom. Tourists are walking or sitting, and many young people are riding rented bicycles. Many tourists are taking photos through the colorful peach blossoms. Cruise ships are shuttling back and forth on Beili Lake, and Baoshu Tower stands tall in the distance. Baidi is not long, only a short kilometer. At the end of the embankment, on the south side, is the famous Pinghu Qiuyue. The trees near the lake are very beautiful, with huge branches hanging down to the water. Many tourists take photos and rest there, which is very quiet.

By Headwind Bubble |

There are more pedestrians on Baidi Causeway than on Su Causeway during the day. The Leifeng Pagoda across the lake is brightly lit, and the mountains and trees on the right are dotted with colorful lights. The night view of Baidi Causeway makes me feel vulgar.

By Walking and stopping in the world |

The willows on Baidi Bridge are the best place for an outing. Walking along the bridge, you can have a panoramic view of the West Lake, and the gentle breeze will wash away everything.

By Big Wing classmate |

The willow trees on both sides of the Baidi Bridge contrast with the peach blossoms, forming the most beautiful stretch of the river. There are many boatmen soliciting business on the shore. The hand-rowed boat costs 150 yuan per hour, and life jackets must be worn on the lake.

By Jack Fan |

All my travels were funded by my part-time job and were hard and tiring. But when I saw the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai, the small bridges and flowing water in Xitang, the beautiful West Lake in Hangzhou, the sycamore trees in Nanjing, and the mountains, rivers and lakes in Yuntaishan, I felt that all the hard work was worth it. All beautiful things come at a price.

Baidi Causeway is also called Baisha Causeway. It is said that it was built by Bai Juyi when he was the governor of Hangzhou to store lake water for irrigation of farmland. Bai Juyi's "Spring Tour of Qiantang Lake" describes the scenery here. West Lake is a place where you can enjoy it 24 hours a day in all seasons. Baidi Causeway runs from the Broken Bridge to Qiu Jin's Tomb. In the middle are the Old Zhejiang Museum, Wenyuan Pavilion, Louwailou, Xiling Seal Society, Zhongshan Park (the ruins of the Qing Dynasty's imperial palace) and other attractions.

It was really comfortable to ride a bicycle along the Shili Baidi Bridge. I don’t know why, and I don’t need to know why. I can only say that I was very happy at that time.

It is free to visit. It was built under the supervision of Bai Juyi in the Tang Dynasty. You can appreciate the unique charm of West Lake from the Bai Causeway.

By Greater freedom |

The Bai Causeway is about 1 kilometer long. Because the embankment was originally paved with white sand, it was called Baisha Causeway in the Tang Dynasty and Gushan Road in the Song Dynasty. Willow and peach trees are planted on both sides. It is crowded with tourists. Imagine the scene of the bridge being crowded with people on National Day.

Bai Causeway starts from Broken Bridge in the east, passes through Jindai Bridge and connects to Gushan in the west to "Pinghu Qiuyue". West Lake is divided into five lake areas by Gushan, Bai Causeway, Su Causeway and Yanggong Causeway, which are Outer West Lake, Xili Lake, Beili Lake, Xiaonan Lake and Yuehu Lake respectively in terms of area. According to the landscape of the lake area, the basic pattern of "one mountain, two towers, three islands, three embankments and five lakes" is formed.

Baidi starts from Broken Bridge and ends at Gushan. There are willow trees on both sides of the road. If it weren't so hot, I would still come to travel. I feel like I can sit by the lake and stare for an afternoon! The total length is 1km. I wanted to borrow a bicycle, but I still didn't see it after walking all the way, so I had to walk! It's also good to take pictures while walking, so you can appreciate it more carefully! Baidi, as the name suggests, is the river embankment that Bai Juyi asked the people to build. We really need to thank this great poet. Without this road, how can we enjoy the scenery behind West Lake! It's convenient for the public!
