Gushan is a natural island in the north of West Lake. It is not big but has many historical sites, sculptures, museums and memorial halls. It is the place with the most concentrated cultural landscapes in West Lake.
On the island, you can not only feel the profound cultural heritage, but also enjoy the beautiful scenery of West Lake. Almost every day, newlyweds take wedding photos here.
There are a number of exhibition halls on Gushan Road along the south side of the lake. The Zhejiang Provincial Museum (Gushan District) and several art galleries around it mainly display calligraphy and painting.
Lin Bu, a poet of the Northern Song Dynasty, once lived in seclusion in the Fanghe Pavilion here. He took plum blossoms as his wife and cranes as his sons throughout his life. Every year at the turn of winter and spring, a small patch of plum blossoms can still be seen in full bloom.
Gushan is one of the three best places for viewing plum blossoms in Hangzhou.

The plaque on the gate of Gushan Park reminds me of one of the three wonders of West Lake. Half of the pond of withered lotus leaves accompany the lonely Baochu Pagoda. As a loner, I can’t help but feel a sense of empathy: “Gushan is not lonely, but I am lonely.”
My previous knowledge of Gushan Mountain came only from the ancient poem I learned in my childhood: Gushan Temple is to the north and Jiating is to the west, the water surface is flat and the clouds are low. Now I know that Gushan Mountain is not lonely. The word "Gu" in Gushan Mountain is not originally pronounced "Gu", just like the Broken Bridge is not broken and the Long Bridge is not long, it has infinite history and culture.
2020.10.7After visiting Su Causeway, we headed straight to Gushan Scenic Area and continued on our way;
I have been in Hangzhou for many years. I finally climbed up last winter. The view from the whole West Lake is really beautiful. But the air in the city is turbid and the view is average.
Gushan is a natural island in the north of West Lake. It is not big but has many historical sites.
After crossing Baidi (Bai Juyi Causeway), you will see Gushan Road in front. On the left side of Gushan Road are scenic spots such as Pinghu Autumn Moon and Guanghua Fudan. Pinghu Autumn Moon is one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake. It is backed by Gushan and faces the outer lake of West Lake. The landscape is open along the lake, including the Imperial Monument Pavilion, the water platform, the four-sided hall, the octagonal pavilion, the Lake and Sky Building and other buildings. Because the platform extending out of the water is very wide and the view is very wide, it has become a first-class moon-viewing resort. On the right side of Gushan Road are various old-style buildings, which are deeply hidden with rich cultural heritage, and each house has endless stories to tell.
Gushan is not lonely, tourists often miss it, it is also a good place to spend a day
Many tourists who are not familiar with Hangzhou will miss Gushan. They will miss Lin Bu (bu, the first sound), who refused to serve as an official or marry a plum blossom wife and crane child, miss the plum blossoms in full bloom in winter, and miss Su Manshu's tomb, Xiling Seal Society and wild ducks in the lake. After crossing Xiling Bridge from Baidi, pay attention to Su Xiaoxiao's tomb, who is separated from Su Manshu by a bridge and a thousand years of time. Who sent a famous monk to accompany a famous prostitute, and there are two Su tombs beside Xiling Bridge. Continue walking along the lake to Baidi, and you will pass by Wu Song's tomb and Huang Binhong's statue.
Although I personally don’t like it, Gushan is accessible by car.
Gushan is not really high, only 38 meters above sea level. Gushan is not really big, covering only 20 hectares, but it gathers many cultural relics and scenic spots, one step at a time, streams, pools, flowers, trees, bridges, pavilions, scattered in an orderly manner. The higher you go up the mountain, the more deserted it is. There is no one on the forest path. As you climb the steps, you can see the winter colors. The snow has not melted in the tree roots and grass. Occasionally, magpies chirp and jump, flying and jumping on the high and low branches. In the cold winter wind, it is not bleak. Standing here, looking around, as far as you can see, clouds, water, mountains, snow, reveal the coldness of winter, and the shimmering lake surface makes people have infinite yearning. I can't help but think of the saying of "Three Strange Things in West Lake" - Gushan is not lonely, Broken Bridge is not broken, and Changqiao is not long.
Gushan is located in Zhongshan Park. It is the lowest and smallest mountain among the mountains in West Lake, with an altitude of only 38 meters. However, the scenery is excellent, and it is more charming in the rain. It is known as "the beauty of Qiantang lies in West Lake, and the wonder of West Lake lies in Gushan". The "West Lake World Scenery" Pavilion and the Crane Release Pavilion are both here. The Crane Release Pavilion was built to commemorate the hermit Lin Hejing of the Northern Song Dynasty, and the story of "Plum Wife and Crane Son" originated from this person; the couplet of the "West Lake World Scenery" Pavilion is particularly interesting, the upper couplet is "Water and mountains are bright and beautiful everywhere", and the lower couplet is "Sunny and rainy, always curious and wonderful".
Gushan is a famous scenic spot in West Lake. Gushan is the largest island in West Lake, with an area of 20 hectares and a height of 38 meters. It is a place where cultural relics and historical sites are gathered.
Of all the scenery in West Lake, I prefer Solitary Hill, which is not high but has a good view of the distance, and has elegant scenery of pond, bridge, pavilion, stream, etc. It is also called the Three Wonders of West Lake, along with “Long Bridge is not long, Broken Bridge is not broken, Solitary Hill is not lonely”.
It's a rattle, it's a rattle, it's a rattle, it's a rattle
There are still many remains of the palace from that time on Gushan Mountain, which shows how luxurious it was back then.
The first goal of going to West Lake is to have too much cultural connotation and cultural atmosphere, too beautiful natural landscape, and the perfect fusion of landscape and culture. I will go there many times. . . .
Gushan is a natural island in the north of West Lake. Although the island is not large, it has many historical sites, including sculptures, museums and memorial halls. It is the place with the most concentrated cultural landscapes in West Lake.
This mountain is only 38 meters high. It is hidden in the bustling West Lake scenic area with many tourists, like a paradise. The pavilions, trees, streams, ponds and stone bridges complement each other. They are small and exquisite but wonderful. Not only beautiful, it also has many cultural landscapes. Gushan also has attractions such as Zhongshan Memorial Pavilion, Yu Tower, Wenlan Pavilion, etc. By the way, Gushan is open to the public for free. If you have the opportunity to travel to West Lake, in addition to viewing the Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake and the New Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake, you can also go to Gushan. Look carefully, you may get a different beauty.
Gushan Scenic Area is located between the inner and outer lakes of West Lake. It is the largest island in West Lake, 38 meters high. It is surrounded by blue waves and lush flowers and trees. Emperor Lizong of the Southern Song Dynasty and Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty both built palaces and imperial gardens here, occupying most of Gushan. You can visit it while visiting West Lake.
Gushan is surrounded by blue waves, with lush flowers and trees in the mountains, and pavilions and towers scattered and unique. It is a three-dimensional garden that integrates natural beauty and artistic beauty. Gushan is small, but it has many scenery. Facing the lake and backed by the mountain, it is a unique place. Therefore, many celebrities and scholars in history have stopped here. Gushan is not only not lonely but also very lively. Although it was not the most beautiful plum blossom viewing season in Gushan, the scenery is still unique. Perhaps it was because it was still early, or perhaps it was not a stop for tourist groups, the mountains and forests were elegant with birds singing, and the relics left by the literati and scholars of the previous dynasty were everywhere, which was a bit arrogant and lofty.
Gushan is actually in Zhongshan Park. On one side is Baidi, on the other side is Beishan Road and Sudi, next to it is Zhejiang Museum and Louwailou. It is said that you can see plum blossoms. But it is rare during the Spring Festival.
See the travel notes "Remembering Hangzhou - Beauty in the South of the Yangtze River" http://www.mafengwo.cn/i/6744236.html
Gushan is not lonely. It is connected to Xiling Bridge in the west and Baidi Bridge in the east. I have been there before, but I don’t have time to visit the park again this time.
Xiling Seal Society and Wenlan Pavilion are both national cultural relics protection sites in Gushan Scenic Area (I have also visited Wenlan Pavilion).
It's nice to stroll around Gushan when there are fewer people. When I went there, there were not many people. I sat in the pavilion to relax myself, climbed to the top of the mountain to look at the West Lake, and felt very good.
Qianlong's palace was destroyed in the war and is suitable for spring outings.
The sun is shining, and it is a good time to stroll along the West Lake. There are still many tourists in Gushan Park, and some people bring tents. Located between Baidi and Xiling Bridge, the mountain is not high, but it has many scenic spots and historical sites such as Xiling Seal Society, Qing Palace Ruins, Pinghu Autumn Moon, Qiu Jin's Tomb, Zhejiang Provincial Museum, West Lake Art Museum, and Louwailou.
Probably because of the snow, the road was slippery and few people went up the mountain, so there were not many people when we went up, it was a very quiet place.
Gushan is not high and its area is not large, but it is worth visiting. Many scenic spots are on Gushan.
Most people who visit West Lake have a good idea of Baidi Bridge, but not so much of Gushan, mainly because most people focus on the core area of West Lake. In fact, Gushan is very rich in content, including the Gushan Museum of Zhejiang Provincial Museum and Xiling Seal Society. Less noticeable are West Lake Art Museum, Zhongshan Park, Bai Su Temple, and the northern side of Gushan facing Beili Lake and Beishan Road, which also have nice scenery.
Gushan is located next to the West Lake Scenic Area in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It is a famous scenic spot in the West Lake. Gushan is the largest island in the West Lake, with an area of 20 hectares and a height of 38 meters. It is a place where cultural relics and historical sites are gathered. There are 30 scenic spots, and walking on the mountain trails feels like walking in the mountains.
The main attractions include: Fanghe Pavilion, Lin Hejing's Tomb, Xiling Seal Society, Agate Slope, Yiyan Spring, Wenlan Pavilion, Zhongshan Park, Qing Palace, Jingyi Academy, Qiu Jin's Tomb, Liuyi Spring, Su Manshu Cemetery, Banbi Pavilion, etc.
Gushan is surrounded by blue waves, with luxuriant flowers and trees in the mountains and pavilions scattered and unique. It is a three-dimensional garden integrating natural beauty and artistic beauty. As the name suggests, it is an isolated island in the lake. The scenery of Gushan was well-known as early as the Tang and Song Dynasties. The Tang poet Bai Juyi wrote "North of Gushan Temple and west of Jiating, the water surface is flat and the clouds are low", and Ling Yunhan of the Ming Dynasty wrote "In the morning, the sound of the tail of the frozen wood can be heard, and the scenery of Gushan is better than the picture". There is also the tomb of Lin Hejing, a hermit poet in the Song Dynasty, where the saying of "plum wife and crane son" is circulated.
The mountain is not high and the scenery is nice. There are many attractions such as the ruins of the Qing Palace, the tomb of the Jianhu heroine, and the Xiling Seal Society. Unfortunately, you cannot see the panoramic view of West Lake when you reach the top.
Gushan is not lonely, and Broken Bridge is not broken. Gushan not only has the free and easy life of plum wife and crane child, but also a little sorrow. There is the fierceness of Qiuluo, and the legend of Xiling.
Xiaogushan, without climbing very high, you can overlook the West Lake
Hangzhou is a city where you don’t want to leave once you arrive.
Gushan Park is located between Baidi, Gushan Road and Xiling Bridge. It is the largest natural island in West Lake. The biggest attraction is plum blossoms. There is a large plum garden on the east side of Gushan, with many varieties. Tourists flock to it when plum blossoms are in full bloom. The tomb of Lin Hejing, the wife of plum blossoms and son of cranes, is on Gushan, and there are many branches of red plum blossoms next to the tomb. Bai Juyi has a poem "North of Gushan Temple and West of Jia Ting". Gushan had Gushan Temple in the Tang Dynasty. There are still ruins of the Qing Dynasty palace. Some newly built pavilions and towers are staggered, which is also a good view.
There are few tourists and it's nothing special, so you can go or not.
It's a small hill, nothing special, just go in and take a look around.
I have been to West Lake many times, but this is my first time to Gushan Park. There are not many people, very quiet
You can actually plan a longer time at Gushan. After visiting the Zhejiang Museum, you can go to the nearby Louwailou to have some blood and a good meal.
West Lake, I just walked here. After visiting Zhejiang Provincial Museum, I realized that this is Gushan. Gushan is right in front of us, but we don’t have time to go up.
Gushan, located in Zhongshan Park, is a place with stories and a historical atmosphere.
There are still some remains of the palace built by Emperor Qianlong on Gushan Mountain when he came to Hangzhou. There is nothing special about it, facing the West Lake.
I only saw people walking on Gushan Mountain from a distance. I didn't know where to go up and whether I needed a ticket. It was already noon and I was very hungry. So I stopped looking for it.
This place is famous for plum blossoms. The park is not big, but there are indeed many plum trees, and the flowers are in full bloom. There are different varieties of plum blossoms, some with strong fragrance, and some without any smell. There is also a statue of Lin Hejing in the park. Thinking of his hermit life with his plum wife and crane children, I can't help but yearn for it. I think that kind of life is also what many modern people yearn for.
Gushan is a great place to appreciate plum blossoms. There are large tracts of plum blossoms in full bloom, and the air is filled with a subtle fragrance. It is a place with a strong Zen atmosphere and is perfect for relaxation.
Gushan is a small hill several dozen meters high. There is not much to see when you climb up it as the trees are too tall and block the view. On the contrary, there are some nice views at the foot of the hill, including a small patch of plum trees that are still standing strong.
I wanted to go back after walking along Baidi Bridge, but at the entrance of Gushan Mountain, I suddenly remembered a post I had read before, which mentioned that "Gushan Mountain is the first of the three major plum blossom viewing spots in Hangzhou", so I walked in on a whim. I looked back at Baidi Bridge in the distance. I still remember that the last time I stood in this place was when I first came to Hangzhou, which was the summer of 2011. At that time, the lotus flowers were in full bloom. Now, although it is a dry and desolate place, I think it is quite interesting. And it was just this "sudden whim" that changed the route, and I came across this plum garden. Although I didn't see the beautiful scenery of "Gushan Garden is as beautiful as makeup" described by Bai Juyi, only one or two trees were in bloom, and most of them were still buds, but I was satisfied. Moreover, the wintersweets were in full bloom at that time, and there was always a wisp of fragrance blowing by, which felt very wonderful.
At the end of Baidi Bridge, there is a peaceful lake with autumn moon on one side and Solitary Mountain on the other.
A small island in the West Lake is a place where cultural relics and historical sites are gathered.

The scenery is beautiful and there are beautiful views in all seasons. It is like a small island.
After the old building of Zhejiang Museum is Zhongshan Park, which is part of Gushan. I visited it last time I came here. This time I mainly came to see the excavated ruins of the Qing Dynasty palace.
There are many scenic spots on Gushan Mountain. It takes half a day to walk around slowly.
"The customs of Lin'an are extravagant all year round, and there is almost no day without enjoyment. The lake in the west is lovely, and the river tide in the east is worth watching, both of which are magnificent views.
It has beautiful scenery and convenient transportation. There are cultural venues such as the Provincial Museum for people to broaden their horizons, and there are also many beautiful scenery.
Gushan is still worth a visit. There are many historical sites and the scenery is also very good.
Gushan gave me a big surprise. The various sculptures left a deep impression on me. Next time if I have the opportunity to come to Gushan again, I must climb Gushan. Gushan is only 30 meters and it is very easy to climb.
Walking up Gushan, it was a different scene. Gushan was much more spacious than I thought. There was even a road for sports cars and a tourist bus. Many people recommended Gushan, saying that Gushan was the essence of West Lake, with Xiling Seal Society and Zhongshan Park, where Emperor Qianlong's palace was. But I don't have a very good memory of this place, because Xiling Seal Society was under construction, and many roads in Gushan were under construction. It felt like the whole Gushan was under renovation, no way, they were doing it for the G20. I went to Zhongshan Park for a walk, and there were many relics of Emperor Qianlong's palace, but other than that, there was nothing to see.
The plum blossoms on Gushan are very famous. The poem "Sparse shadows slant across the shallow water, and the faint fragrance floats in the moonlight at dusk" is about the plum blossoms on Gushan.
There are many crooked trees growing on Gushan Mountain, and their trunks are almost parallel to the ground. What is the reason? Can anyone who knows please give me some advice?
I went there at night. I was worried that Gushan would be very dark. I was quite worried... I didn't expect to see a super beautiful night view with colorful lights.
The ducks playing in the water and the unknown little flowers blooming by the river are both very beautiful.
A scenic spot on the edge of West Lake. The mountain is not high and it doesn’t take long to reach.
I didn’t walk to Gushan, but just watched it from the lakeside and from a distance while on a cruise. It felt like a highlight of the West Lake night view!

I admire Lin Hejing's poem "Sparse shadows slant across, and faint fragrance floats on the water" and the legend of his "plum wife and crane son", so I made a special trip to look for his traces. However, to my disappointment, perhaps it was not the right season, as there were only a few plum blossoms around the Fanghe Pavilion, which really fits the description of the word 'sparse shadows'. I finally found a few wintersweets following the scent, and they lived up to the meaning of faint fragrance.
Next to Louwailou is Zhongshan Park. After entering the park, you will reach the foot of Gushan Mountain in West Lake. The park was built on the original site of the Qing Dynasty Imperial Garden, so after entering, you can see many ruins protected by glass covers on both sides of the road. And right in front of you is a stone carving with two big characters "Gushan".
Directly opposite the park, on the edge of West Lake, there is an archway with four large characters "Fudan Guanghua" inscribed on it. I heard that it was originally an archway of the Qing Dynasty palace during the reign of Kangxi.
There are many scenic spots on the mountain, as well as delicious food. There are also many surrounding attractions, which can be walked along Su Causeway or Bai Causeway.
Gushan is a tourist attraction in West Lake, with a deep cultural connotation. Any scenic spot in West Lake has humanistic characteristics, which is the best combination of landscape and humanities. Below Gushan is the palace of Emperor Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty. Emperor Qianlong went to the south of the Yangtze River six times and stayed here several times. Later, the palace was destroyed by war, leaving only some foundations and relics. Later generations restored some pavilions and waterside pavilions. The more famous ones are Wanju Pavilion and West Lake Tianxiajing. There is a memorial archway by the lake with four big characters "Guanghua Fudan" on it. Later, the palace was changed to Zhongshan Park. Going up along the mountain road is Gushan. The mountain is not very high, and you can see the panoramic view of West Lake. It is best to go to West Lake on a rainy day. In the drizzle, you can experience the feeling of "heavy makeup and light makeup are always suitable". Holding the oil-paper umbrella of Jiangnan, strolling by the lake, that feeling is really a wonderful aftertaste. Next to it is the Zhejiang Provincial Museum and the famous Louwailou Restaurant. It feels great to visit the history of Zhejiang and taste the Dongpo pork in Louwailou.
Suitable time for travel: January to December, March to May is the best.
Recommended visiting time: 2-3 hours, including time at Zhejiang Provincial Museum.
Cost: All free.
Louwailou needs to be booked in advance, avoid holidays, and it is best to go before 11 o'clock when there will be fewer people.
It's very beautiful when it snows. I didn't know about Gushan before I set off. I saw it online when I was visiting West Lake, so I walked in. It didn't snow much and it was very cold, but it was also nice to enjoy the plum blossoms on Gushan in the snow.
Where man-made buildings are concentrated, it is a good place to visit West Lake
Gushan is still worth a visit, after all, it was once so glorious in history.
Gushan is located next to the West Lake Scenic Area in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It is a famous scenic spot in West Lake. Gushan is a small peninsula with a height of no more than 35 meters. Walking on the mountain trails gives you a feeling of being in the mountains. The existing scenic spots include Fanghe Pavilion, Lin Hejing's Tomb, Agate Slope, Yiyan Spring, Wenlan Pavilion, Zhongshan Park, Jingyi Academy, Qiu Jin's Tomb, Liuyi Spring, Banbi Pavilion, Su Manshu's Tomb, etc.
I love visiting museums. The Zhejiang Provincial Museum is located on Gushan Mountain, and there are many attractions here.
Located on the north side of West Lake, I didn't climb up for a while due to time constraints. I just walked around the foot of the mountain for a short while. The scenery is really good and worth climbing up. It's wonderful to climb the mountain in my spare time on weekends~
孤山不高,在我看來甚至是很矮,對於經常爬山的人來說應該是很輕鬆的,如果時間充裕可以去爬一下,還是很不錯的。
The picture below is of Zhongshan Park. There is a Gushan sign in Zhongshan Park. It was also built on the original site of the Qing Dynasty Imperial Garden, so there are many remains of Qing Dynasty buildings in the park.
Opposite the park gate is the memorial archway that reads "Guanghua Fudan" (I didn't look carefully the first time and wrote "Guangfu Zhonghua", but netizens pointed out that it is "日月光辉,旦复旦兮" which means self-improvement. Of course, I checked Baidu and found that it also means "reviving China", so the first mistake was not a mistake at all, haha). Next to the memorial archway is the pier, which is also one of the piers to go to the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon.
Gushan is a natural island in the north of West Lake. It is not big. It is a lonely hill sandwiched between Baidi and Sudi. Although it is a small "Gushan", it has many historical sites, sculptures, museums and memorial halls. It is the most concentrated place of cultural landscape in West Lake. The most famous of them are historical figures such as Bai Juyi, Lu Xun and Qiu Jin. On the island, you can not only feel the profound cultural heritage, but also enjoy the beautiful scenery of West Lake. Almost every day, newlyweds take wedding photos here. From the top of Gushan, you can overlook the scenery of the south bank of West Lake. At the foot of the mountain, there are Zhongshan Park and Xiling Seal Society. Gushan is the best place to enjoy the scenery of West Lake.
There are a number of exhibition halls concentrated on Gushan Road along the lake in the south. Zhejiang Provincial Museum (Gushan District) and several art galleries around it mainly display calligraphy and painting and other artworks.
Lin Bu, a poet of the Northern Song Dynasty, once lived in seclusion in the Fanghe Pavilion here. He took plum blossoms as his wife and cranes as his sons throughout his life. Every year at the turn of winter and spring, you can still see a small patch of plum blossoms in full bloom. The curved stone bridge in front of the Fanghe Pavilion is matched with a pair of stone crane statues, creating a quiet and beautiful scene.
The famous Louwailou is just opposite the Zhejiang Provincial Museum. The museum is free and worth visiting.
