Jianhu Lake

I got off the bus and took this photo at the bus stop across the road from the entrance to the Keyan Scenic Area. Across the street is a village called Xinmo Village. It's very beautiful. Zhejiang's villages are all very beautiful and prosperous. It has the charm of a Jiangnan water village. There are housewives washing clothes by the river and old men rowing wooden boats by. It has a unique atmosphere of life.

Before entering the scenic area, I walked around the entrance of the scenic area. This is a memorial archway on the shore of Jianhu Lake, with a stone tablet behind it that reads "Jinghu Lake".

Jianhu Lake is Shaoxing's "Mother Lake." Its 800-li lakescape is captured here, and a long bridge connects the lake's waters. Half a forest of maple leaves is a picturesque sight, and the valleys flanking its banks are shrouded in autumn. The common saying "800-li Jianhu Lake" conveys an idea of its former vastness. Jianhu Lake is not a natural lake, but a renowned water conservancy project south of the Yangtze River, the remnant of the ancient Jianhu Lake after its flooding and abandonment. In the fifth year of the Yonghe reign of the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 140), Ma Zhen, the prefect of Kuaiji, mobilized civilians to build a dike to retain water. This dike, which collected water from 36 sources in Shanyin and Kuaiji counties, irrigated over 9,000 hectares of farmland, benefiting the people immensely. It is one of the largest water conservancy projects in ancient Jiangnan.

The current Jianhu Lake is about 15 kilometers long and covers an area of 3 square kilometers.

Jianhu Lake in Shaoxing, a flowing landscape of the Jiangnan region, shimmers with the gentle charm of a waterside village amidst its rippling emerald waters. Jianhu Lake is one of Zhejiang's famous lakes, located approximately 1.5 kilometers southwest of Shaoxing City. Originally named Mirror Lake, it is said to have been named after the Yellow Emperor, who cast a mirror there. The Jianhu Scenic Area, located at the foot of Keshan Mountain, is a major part of Jianhu Lake. Its beautiful scenery blends seamlessly with the Keyan landscape while also offering a unique perspective.

The lake is small, with many additional charges. There is a long stone bridge, but otherwise it is very ordinary.

I personally think that the biggest attraction of Keyan Scenic Area is Jianhu Lake. Walk in from the Keyan Scenic Area to the cruise ship pier (the scenic area ticket includes round-trip boat tickets), queue up to take the ferry to Jianhu Lake. Jianhu Lake has a better view than Keyan. A long bridge connects the shore on the wide lake, which feels like an enlarged version of West Lake.

The scenic area is not big and is fenced off for construction everywhere. Walking along the white jade causeway, bypassing the Hushang Tower, and then returning to the Jiudao Wharf, you can basically finish your stroll.

Jianhu Lake is actually quite large, though it is much smaller today than it was in history. Jianhu Lake is the representative of Shaoxing, roughly equivalent to West Lake in Hangzhou and East Lake in Wuhan today.

You need to take a boat tour to visit Jianhu Lake and walk along the ancient towpath. Several stone bridges are full of ancient style.

Jianhu Lake Scenic Area is located in the Keyan Scenic Area. The ticket is included in the Keyan Scenic Area. There is an ancient towpath across Jianhu Lake, and there are special boats for pick-up and drop-off.

There is a combined ticket for Keyan, Jianhu and Lu Town, and there are also shuttle boats. Compared with the artificial scenic spots in Lu Town, the natural scenery of Keyan and Jianhu is more fascinating.

The most noteworthy attraction in Jianhu Scenic Area is undoubtedly Jianhu Lake. Known as Shaoxing's "Mother Lake," its stunning scenery is truly captivating. Lu You, a renowned Southern Song Dynasty poet, once remarked, "A thousand gold coins are not worth buying a painting; listen to my long song of Jianhu Lake." The most photographic spot on Jianhu Lake is the Long Bridge. The bridge and the lake, the lake and the sky, form a harmonious unity. Walking across the bridge, a casual photo captures the harmonious beauty of heaven, earth, and humanity.

Jianhu Lake is actually a small island, and I always feel that a road like this will lead to falling into the water.

Walking on the towpath, it seems as if you are floating on the water. The river network is dense, and there are flowing water, green willows, egrets and wild ducks playing, which is a natural Jiangnan ink painting.

I never knew the story of Jianhu Lake, but I learned about it after returning home.

However, the actors in Jianhu Lake who performed Lu Xun's works were quite annoying. Xianglin Sao was tolerable, but the actor who played Ah Gui was truly repulsive, lacking any sense of human numbness.

It is strongly recommended not to buy it here. It is too expensive. There are many Guyue Longshan specialty stores in the city, which are more than half the price. This seems to be the filming location of the new Legend of the White Snake.

Remember that song? Jianhu Lake—as a kid, I often heard it on the radio: "Local waters and soils nurture local people." Shaoxing is a city with a distinct flavor. There's no need to deliberately advertise it; the flavor remains the same as it was when we were little. It's just that we ourselves, caught in the whirlwind of history, don't know what to do. Just like Jianhu Lake, the water remains beautiful, the people remain kind.
