North Peak (Beigao Feng)

杭州西湖风景名胜区-北高峰

North Peak, behind Lingyin Temple, boasts hundreds of stone steps winding through thirty-six bends. Atop it stands the Huaguang Temple, dedicated to the Five Saints. Halfway up the mountain stands the Ma Mingwang Temple, where springtime silkworms pray. The seven-story pagoda atop the peak was built during the Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty and destroyed during the Huichang period. It was restored by Emperor Qian Wusu, but was destroyed again in the seventh year of the Xianchun period of the Song Dynasty. Here, surrounded by mountains, the lake reflects the image of a mirror. From above, boats and fishing boats appear like gulls and ducks darting in and out of the misty waters, becoming increasingly faint as they recede, their shadows barely visible. Looking west, the Luosha River, like a freshly washed silk thread, merges into the distant sea, a vast expanse. Zhang Gongliang coined the phrase, "The white air of the river divides, the air of the sea merges; the green of the Wu Mountains ends, and the Yue Mountains rise." The county seat lies between the river and the lake, winding its way, reflecting each other on both sides. Houses stand in a row, bamboo and trees grow thick, lush and verdant, like phoenixes dancing and dragons circling, a true aura of imperial power. At the foot of the mountain stands the pagoda of Asanga Zen Master. The master's name was Wenxi, and he lived during the reign of Emperor Suzong of Tang. His remains were buried here. Han Tuozhou chose this as his burial site and, upon opening the pagoda, discovered a pottery niche. His face looked as if he were alive, his hair hanging down to his shoulders, his fingers and nails curled around his body. Hundreds of relics remained intact for three days before he was cremated.

North Peak Cableway Ticket:

Up and down the mountain: 40 yuan

One-way trip up the mountain: 30 yuan

One-way trip down the mountain: 20 yuan

I did not hike up the North Peak, but returned the same way. It was almost three in the afternoon when I arrived at the entrance of Feilaifeng Scenic Area.

After leaving the Lingyin Feilai Peak Scenic Area, take the Beigaofeng Cableway to see the beauty of Beigaofeng.

I don’t know if it was because it was afternoon, but there were very few people taking the cable car to Beigaofeng, so as long as the car arrived, you could get on it and basically didn’t have to wait too long.

In fact, today's weather is not suitable for climbing North Peak. The scenery in the distance is foggy and difficult to see clearly.

But since I was here, I planned to see the world's number one temple of the God of Wealth on Beigao Peak, so I also experienced the Beigao Peak Cableway.

There are bus signposts. If you don't take the cable car, you can follow the signs and take the bus back directly.

Tips:

I took bus No. 1 back to the city, but when I was queuing, I found that it was divided into "sitting queue" and "standing queue".

Since this is the starting station, when the bus arrives, those in line get on first. Assuming the bus has 10 seats, only 10 people in line can get on, and then it's the turn of those standing in line. The bus operator decides the bus is almost full and starts moving. In other words, those who line up will definitely get a seat, but the wait will be long. If you want to get on the bus quickly, you'll have to stand in line, but you won't get a seat unless someone sitting gets off at their stop.

For people like me who ride from the beginning to the end of the station, I still waited in line obediently. After all, the journey was long and I had been walking all day, so having a seat was much more comfortable. There were still quite a few cars, so the queue didn't take too long.

After passing Lingyin Temple, I was about to climb North Peak. I ran into a photography enthusiast on the way. What was he photographing?

Taoguang Temple is one of the scenic spots in West Lake. It was built by the famous Tang Dynasty monk Taoguang. Taoguang was a poet and often exchanged poems with the county governor Bai Juyi. Bai once invited Taoguang to the city with a poem. My friends didn't want to visit, so we didn't go.

Keep going, we are out of the scenic area. My daughter climbed very fast, like a flash of smoke.

When you reach a fork in the road, take a break.

After climbing up, I feel that Beigaofeng is not too high. Gushan Mountain in Fuzhou should be higher than Beigaofeng.

By Dark Star Anding |

If we talk about the most famous mountain in Hangzhou, it must be Beigaofeng, which is more or less famous because of the Lingyin Temple at the foot of the mountain.

Many tourists visit Lingyin Temple and Beigaofeng together.

There are two main attractions at Beigaofeng: Lingshun Temple, known as the "World's No. 1 Temple of the God of Wealth," and the panoramic view of West Lake.

Aside from Lingshun Temple and the view from the top, there are few historical relics on Beigaofeng. However, the guide sign at the top still lists the ruins of Bailong Temple, the Horse Drinking Spring, and the wild tea garden. However, even if you look for them, they are difficult to find.

Like the South Peak, the North Peak once had a North Peak Tower, but it has long since disappeared.

The government recently plans to rebuild it. After field investigations, the base of the tower from that time has been discovered. I believe that this landscape will be restored in the near future.

Let's talk about the route from the north. My first climb to the North Peak was from the north side, at Fahua Temple. A long walk along West Road leads past Dongyue Temple, a Taoist temple from the Southern Song Dynasty. Continuing further, you'll pass Fahuashan Park, the main gate to Fahua Temple, which also serves as the visitor center. The parking lot is full of women selling sweet potatoes and corn. Another five or six minutes further, you'll reach Fahua Temple. The temple is sparsely populated with tourists and pilgrims. Most visitors to the North Peak choose the southern section, around Lingyin Temple, while the northern section is largely populated by locals.

There are many routes to Beigaofeng, the common routes are:

① Take the Beigaofeng Cableway up the mountain

②Walk up the Taoguang Ancient Trail at Taoguang Temple in Lingyin Scenic Area

③Fahua Temple Hiking Trail in the North of Beigaofeng

Generally, people choose to walk up the mountain and take the cable car down the mountain.

If you're looking for a leisurely tour of Hangzhou, I recommend waking up early and climbing Beigaofeng. Ride your bike to the foot of Beigaofeng, ascend from one end to enjoy the fresh air and a panoramic view of West Lake. (There's a temple on the mountain called the God of Wealth, which is said to be quite effective.) Then descend from the other end.

At noon, at its peak, braving 35-degree heat, I was led up the North Peak... After climbing nearly 1,000 steps, I felt like I'd just been pulled out of a pot. But standing at the summit, gazing at the panoramic view of West Lake and the rolling green hills, the effort was worth it... After the shock, I simply didn't have the energy to descend. We were so exhausted that we had to take the cable car down.

Hangzhou's Beigao Peak is the highest point in the city. Although it's over 300 meters above sea level, it's often called the highest peak in Hangzhou, as it's one of the higher peaks near West Lake. You can climb it and experience the thrill of mountaineering. Since we were on a tight schedule, we bought a round-trip cable car. From Beigao Peak, you can overlook the entire city, surrounded by mountains on three sides, the splendor of West Lake, and the majestic Qiantang River. It's truly breathtaking, a true reflection of the city's urban splendor and the city's urban splendor within its scenery. It's truly beautiful!

By Tamama |

The weather was great today, so I went to Beigaofeng. You have to take a cable car up there, and there's a temple dedicated to the God of Wealth. It costs 8 yuan to enter, so I went in and paid my respects. It's better to believe it than not, haha!

By 💦 |

If you want to take the cable car directly to the North Peak, the round trip fee is 40 yuan. When I went there that day, the fog was so thick that I couldn’t see anything at the top of the peak, which was a pity.

On May 2, 2019, I visited Feilai Peak and Beigao Peak with a group of friends. Friends who live in Hangzhou strongly recommend taking an electric car to the entrance of Lingyin Temple (during holidays).

By Curry Cake |

The North Peak behind Lingyin Temple overlooks the West Lake and Qiantang River, as well as the famous Temple of the God of Wealth. After buying a cable car ticket, you will slowly move forward with the team. It will take about half an hour to get on the car. Five minutes later, there is a tea garden below that looks like a green wave, which is particularly bright under the sun.

By Swirling Water |

Beigaofeng is just a short walk from Laohe Mountain on the Yuquan Campus of Zhejiang University. It is a great place to overlook the West Lake.

By Big Bad Wolf |

This place is surrounded by mountains and the lake is like a mirror. Looking down from above, singing boats and fishing boats are like gulls and ducks appearing and disappearing in the misty waves.

By tolerant |

The mountain behind Lingyin Temple is not high in altitude and it only takes 20 minutes to climb. You can also take the cable car to

By silly lissy |

This is a mountain that Hangzhou locals like to climb very much, on the one hand because it is of moderate intensity, and on the other hand because it is located at the back of Lingyin Temple and has spiritual energy.

By Worm two |

You can overlook the city of Hangzhou. The climb is not difficult and there is a temple of the God of Wealth on the top of the mountain.

By Mr_WangHY |

Student tickets are half price at 22.5 yuan per person, the cable car is 30 yuan to go up the mountain and 20 yuan to go down the mountain. We climbed up and then took the cable car down. The mountain is not high, but it takes a lot of physical strength to climb up and you will sweat. It is recommended to prepare water and wear quick-drying clothes for climbing.

By Return from a long journey |

The climb from Yuquan Spring, Zhejiang University, was not tiring, as you could see West Lake from many places along the way. The view from the top was particularly expansive, with views of West Lake Lingyin Temple, the West Lake and the mountains of Hangzhou, and even a bridge over the Qiantang River. The tea fields were particularly beautiful as we descended to the foot of the mountain!

By Sugar Beans |

Since we arrived late and aren't mountain hikers, my friend and I took the cable car up and down, a round trip costing 40 RMB per person. The experience was quite pleasant, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. There's also a famous temple dedicated to the God of Wealth at the summit of Beigao Peak, where you can buy a ticket to visit and pay your respects.

By small belly |

Go up the mountain from Fahua Temple, no entrance fee required, be sure to take a panoramic view of West Lake and Hangzhou

By China-TravelNote users |

Beigaofeng, though only 315 meters high, is quite tiring to climb, thanks to the many steps. Halfway up, you can see the Fahua Temple, and there's another temple on top, which is quite popular. There are no railings, so it felt a bit dangerous. There's a water stall at the foot of the mountain for 2 yuan a bottle, and another one midway for 2.5 yuan a bottle. There are no pavilions along the way.

By Red Guards Wuhan |

The altitude is 313 meters, and climbing up is a workout. It rained and was foggy both times I went there, so I couldn’t see Lingyin Temple and West Lake.

By Border War Smoke |

Beigaofeng is less crowded than Lingyin Temple and offers beautiful views.

By Realize the dream of financial freedom |

I have been there many times, each time for exercise and to see the scenery of Hangzhou from a high place.

By It's been very quiet |

New Year's Day, January 1, 2018, is always the busiest time for people to climb Beigaofeng (North Peak) because of the temple dedicated to the God of Wealth, the world's largest temple on the summit. People often want to ascend the mountain to pray for blessings on New Year's Day. My husband and I, along with our five-year-old baby, took the bus and walked all the way to the summit. After worshipping, we made a bold decision: instead of backtracking, we walked directly from Beigaofeng to the Botanical Garden and Qingzhiwu, then took bus 79 from Zhejiang University home. It was dark when we got home, and our baby fell asleep on the bus, so my husband had to carry him all the way home. The child was exhausted today, and we, the adults, walked over 20,000 steps. Happy New Year!

It takes 3 hours to walk from Zhejiang University to Beigaofeng. It is a rest stop.

We took the ropeway up, and the tickets only accepted cash. There is a tea garden below the ropeway, which is very beautiful. The weather today is not very good, so the photos are average, but the scenery is absolutely great. It’s a little regrettable that I forgot to buy tea. I will come again to visit the tea garden next time I have the chance.

By Qinghong |

You can choose to walk or take the cable car. The cable car is 40 for a round trip, which is faster. The scenery of Shandong is still good. There is also a temple of the God of Wealth, but overall it is just average.

I like climbing this mountain. It is relatively popular in Hangzhou. Especially the temple of the God of Wealth on the top of the mountain, which is very popular.

The scenery is nice, it's great to climb the mountain and relax along the way. It's a must-see attraction for people who live in Hangzhou for a long time

You can go up the mountain directly from the Yuquan Campus of Zhejiang University. It is a relatively primitive path. There are also some temples on the mountain. I got up early when I went there. On the way up the mountain, I met some local elderly people coming down the mountain. Everyone got up early to climb the mountain to exercise.

By Chen Chenchen |

It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to reach the summit. The road on the mountaintop's God of Wealth Temple side has collapsed, so it's recommended to approach via the Lingyin Temple gate. August 11, 2017.

By Feathering |

Located behind Lingyin Temple, you can climb the mountain or take the cable car. It is a good place to go for sightseeing or to pray for blessings.

By Nicole_ffyy |

I felt really cheated after taking the cable car up. I went up and saw the scenery for 5 minutes before coming down. When the weather is good, the view is still very broad and you can see the West Lake. From the North Peak, you can overlook Lingyin Temple. In spring, there are many tea trees. The mountains that rise and fall one after another make people feel comfortable. People with good physical strength can choose to climb to the North Peak.

By Lu Jiuyuan |

It's just an ordinary mountain. We usually go hiking on weekends when the weather is nice, so tourists shouldn't go. There's a signal tower and the God of Wealth Temple, which was renovated last year, at the top. It's a small courtyard, but you can see everything from the entrance. The entrance fee is 8 yuan. There are also stalls selling God of Wealth statues on both sides, and they're super expensive, starting at 500 yuan, and selling for 80 yuan on Taobao. Time is precious, so go see something else.

We first took the cable car to the North Peak

From the top of Beigao Peak, you can have a bird's eye view of Hangzhou.

The lake in the picture above is West Lake

It can be seen that the area of West Lake is still very large.

There is nothing special on the North Peak.

Several temples require additional fees, which is not very attractive to us.

After taking a look at the distant view, I went down the mountain and headed straight to the main temple of Lingyin.

By Mountain covered with light clouds |

I climbed twice, the first time I climbed a fake North Peak, and the second time was finally worth the trip.

I just went there a few days ago with a friend. We went up from the road behind the library of Zhejiang University Yuquan Campus. We first passed Laohe Mountain and the scenery along the way was great.

By Mo Ran |

It's a small mountain, but well worth the climb. It's beautiful whether you climb it during the day or at night. The first time I climbed it was a rainy day, and after reaching the top, it was a misty feeling, with a faint view of West Lake in the distance. It was amazing! The second and third times tonight were both night climbs, with streetlights all the way, which was very user-friendly! Although I didn't see the "red moon" the second time, the view of Hangzhou at night, with its thousands of lights, was still worth it! I climbed again at night tonight, the autumn breeze was very comfortable and cozy. The night view of Hangzhou was still as beautiful as ever. The lights in the distance were dotted like stars in the sky, and I couldn't tell which was the sky. Next time, I'll go climb early to watch the sunrise.

PS: There is a cable car going up and down the North Peak, and the wind is very strong at the top of the mountain.

By Sanlin Park |

I got up early in the morning and went hiking. I found that there were many elderly people climbing the mountain. The air on the mountain was very good. It took me 45 minutes to climb to the top. It seems that I still lack exercise.

By Kim |

It is a good place to climb mountains and exercise when you have nothing to do. It is not recommended for tourists to go there. It is suitable for climbing mountains and exercising.

By Amour |

On the way to Lingyin Temple, I climbed Beigao Peak, which is 313.7 meters above sea level. It is about 1,500 steps to climb from outside Feilaifeng Scenic Area. There is also a way to climb up from Lingyin Temple inside Feilaifeng Scenic Area.

If you don't want to climb the mountain, you can take the cable car up. The price of the cable car is 30 for going up and 20 for going down, for a total of 40.

If you are physically fit, I suggest you climb it by yourself. Taking the cable car is less fun after all. Besides, it only takes me about half an hour to climb all 1,500 steps at a normal speed.

There are numbers written on the handrails on the side of the steps at regular intervals, such as 520 steps, which is the number of steps remaining to the summit.

There is a small rest pavilion about 600 steps up. An uncle set up a small stall and sold water for five yuan a bottle.

Don't buy incense there, as outside incense is not allowed into Lingshun Temple.

By YJ leader |

Although the mountain is not very high, it still feels great to climb up step by step.

Last weekend, I rode a Hangzhou public bicycle from my residence to Gudang, and rode slowly for more than an hour.

Our route: Laohe Mountain ~ Jiangjun Mountain ~ Beigaofeng Mountain. Actually, for my bestie and I, this was a walk, but her two colleagues were a little tired.

The weather is good. Even after the beginning of winter, the autumn is still everywhere in the south, with a variety of colors. Compared with the vicissitudes of winter in Beijing, the winter in Hangzhou is more eye-catching, with greenery still lingering. 🎋☘️🌾🍃🍁

Apart from the stunning view of the West Lake area and the various shades of green (emerald green, dark green, and light green) formed by the entire forest behind Lingyin Temple, there is really nothing to see at the top of the peak, with only a temple of the God of Wealth and an inscription on a stone tablet.

By Rabbit No.1🐰 |

My backpack was very heavy, so I took the cable car. Below me was a tea plantation, all green and lush, which cured my fear of heights.

By dry skiing |

It's called a peak, but it's actually less than 200 meters. It's about 180 meters. The plain is low, so the difference in height from sea level is negligible. Assuming a 3-meter floor, that's about the height of a 60-story building. It's located primarily on the edge of West Lake. The contrast between the lake and the mountains is truly captivating. A real plus.

By Changhe Y1 |

The mountain is more beautiful when it is rainy and foggy. If you go up from Yongfu Shengjing, it will be amazing.

Climbing Beigao Peak at night, you can see the mountains stacked up and the rising sun. At the foot of the mountain, the Lingyin Temple is dotted among the mountains and forests, and the green mountains are infinitely beautiful.

Overall: Recommended. As a recommendation for a non-popular tourist attraction

Views: The scenery is stunning. There's a small trail leading up to the back entrance of Shangtianzhu. You can also walk down through the Longjing Tea Garden. It's quite beautiful. The vegetation is amazing. Absolutely stunning.

Local: It's not very high, but it's a great place for hiking and exercise. It's also a great place to relax and unwind.

Services: Once you reach Shangtianzhu, you'll need to walk. Once you reach the Longjing Tea Garden, you'll likely see bus No. 27 back to the city.

Beigaofeng, the highest peak in Hangzhou, you say whether you want to go, of course, I will not only go, but also go into the temple of the God of Wealth inside, how can you not worship the Buddha when you see him?

By Pig 0 jogging |

After looking up tips, I finally made it to Beigaofeng. For free entry, there's a small path between the Feilaifeng ticket booth and the cable car ticket booth. It's lined with tea plantations. We asked numerous security guards and on-duty personnel, and they all told us to go up from Feilaifeng, even though we actually needed a ticket. Luckily, we were smart enough to ask a few local tourists, and they all kindly explained. Although Beigaofeng is only a little over 300 meters above sea level, the climb was incredibly tiring. I felt completely exhausted after returning home, and I took the cable car down again (20 yuan). It's been a long time since I've felt so exhausted. The entire climb is filled with steps, and after a certain distance, you'll see how many steps remain, which is a nice touch. You don't need a ticket to visit the God of Wealth Temple up there. The monks were chanting as we were climbing, which was quite impressive. There were supposed to be two places to get your fortune told, but it was lunchtime and both of us were out, so I waited over two hours for my turn. It was incredibly frustrating, and I was completely starving. The number I asked for was 30, and the number I interpreted was 20. They said I could find the result by searching on Baidu, but the master on the south side of the place where I asked for the fortune was very nice. He would explain to me patiently and ask me what I wanted. It was very good.
