The Jiangnan Great Wall is the site of the Ming Dynasty's Qi Jiguang's battle against Japanese invaders. The scenic area boasts numerous historical sites, including barbican walls, watchtowers, towers, and the Temple of Heaven. Historical records indicate that the hollow watchtowers of the Northern Great Wall originated from the Linhai Great Wall (both constructed by Qi Jiguang), leading to the close connection between the two, earning it the nickname "Jiangnan Badaling."

The Jiangnan Great Wall is located in Linhai City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. It was built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty and is 6,000 meters long. It starts from Lansheng Gate and ends at the entrance of Lingjiang Bridge. I only knew that there was a Great Wall in the north before, but when I visited the Jiangnan Great Wall, I realized how ignorant I was. The Jiangnan Great Wall is majestic and magnificent, with a standardized and complete structure. It is known as the "model and blueprint of the Ming Great Wall." The Great Wall has ups and downs and twists and turns. It has both enemy defense and flood control functions. Countless houses are protected by the Great Wall. The Jiangnan Great Wall is a national key cultural relic protection unit and a 4A-level scenic spot. It is well worth a visit.
Although it is not as majestic and world-famous as the Great Wall in the north, it also has its own unique cultural history. Standing on the wall, you can overlook the old city. Children with student ID cards can also enjoy free admission.
The Taizhou City Wall, also known as the Jiangnan Great Wall, served as the architectural model for the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. A detailed introduction is available at the Taizhou City Wall Folk Museum. The wall played a crucial defensive role in the war against Japanese invaders, making an indelible contribution.
It is not recommended to go there during the Spring Festival holiday. The work management of the Fu Great Wall Scenic Area is a bit chaotic. There is only one road up and down the Great Wall, and the flow of people is not well organized. If you don't go to the Great Wall, you are not a hero. You still need to check in.
Also known as the Jiangnan Great Wall, it was first constructed in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, expanded in the Tang Dynasty, and finalized in the Song Dynasty. In 1712 (the 51st year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty), a barbican was constructed. This wall served both military defense and flood control functions. Over 6,000 meters long, it begins at Lansheng Gate in the east, winds along the ridge of Beigu Mountain to Yanxia Pavilion, then ascends steep cliffs to the east bank of the Ling River. It continues to the western foot of Jinshan Mountain, clinging to the mountainside and overlooking the river. In November 2012, it was added to the "China World Cultural Heritage Tentative List" and is well worth a visit.
From 1956 to 1958, the Chonghe Gate on the east side of the city wall and the adjacent approximately 1,800 meters of wall were gradually demolished, leaving approximately 2,370 meters of the western and southern sections of the wall along the river. In August 1995, the Taizhou City Wall restoration project began.

The approximately 4-kilometer route connects East Lake and the Chonghemen Square at Longxing Temple. From there, visitors can overlook the city's architecture, where a blend of old and new buildings allows them to witness the transition from the past to the present. The Great Wall has both ascending and descending sections, so be sure to bring plenty of water and food. There are a few businesses along the way, but they're few and far between.
This tour begins at the Chonghe Gate Square at Longxing Temple on Ziyang Street, entering the Taizhou City Wall Ruins. Continue along the Jiangnan Ancient Great Wall for about 4 kilometers, exiting at the gate near Donghu Park. From the vantage point, you can overlook Taizhou city. Admission is 70 yuan. I personally find the view stunning on a clear day. The blue sky, green trees, and ancient buildings create a harmonious juxtaposition!
You can go up to the Taizhou City Wall to see it, but you need to buy a ticket.
It will be free until the end of March this year. The 2022 New Year's Eve Gala was held in Linhai, and the 2023 New Year's Eve Gala was also filmed in Taizhou Prefecture Scenic Area. Recently, CCTV channels have continued to pay attention to Taizhou Prefecture Scenic Area. During the just-passed Spring Festival, it was ranked second among ancient cities in China, second only to Lijiang Ancient Town.
Except for being a little tired from climbing, it was still very relaxing. Take a walk and see the scenery.
Linhai is so beautiful, you must come and see it, it can be said to be the treasure of Taizhou
Linhai's famous scenic spots, if you haven't been to the Great Wall in Beijing, then come climb the Jiangnan Great Wall in Linhai. There happened to be an event on the day I went, and wearing Hanfu was free of charge. I was in a good mood. It is said that it takes two hours to walk the entire Great Wall, so we didn't finish it hahaha
The Jiangnan Great Wall has a long history and is a typical form of southern defense.
It is worth walking along the city wall to appreciate the ingenuity of the ancients. No entrance fee is required in the early morning or evening.
【141101】Because of the Great Wall, the tenderness of Jiangnan has also become more tenacious.

The old city wall, traces of history, and the snacks on Ziyang Street are also worth a try.
If you are in Linhai, you must go there! It is quite interesting to climb this Great Wall, which is known as the first Great Wall in Jiangnan.
It's okay, better than a mountain without water, but the ticket is too expensive, 60 yuan per person, but Linhai is a good place, with mountains and water, and it is a nine-curve water. In addition, the city wall is more beautiful than the Great Wall. If you don't go to the Great Wall in Beijing, you are not a hero. It's a pity to go to the Great Wall. This city wall is good with mountains and water. In addition, I recommend the Li Ting Hotel where I stayed, which is also very good.
The city wall is nice and it's nice to walk around. It's been well-repaired. Locals are exempt from admission. The 60 yuan entrance fee for outsiders is a bit of a rip-off!
It's not too short, nor too long, and it leads directly to Ziyang Street. It's okay to take a stroll there when you have nothing to do. There's not much scenery to see on the side, just trees, houses, and rivers, nothing else! It's still okay to take a stroll!
The Jiangnan Great Wall is actually the wall of Taizhou City. We only walked half of the wall. When we got down from the wall, we were in the ancient city of Taizhou.
It looks like a climbing staircase in the park, but on the top you can see the ancient city wall built along the river, which has a bit of the charm of the Badaling Great Wall.
Known as the Ancient Great Wall of Jiangnan, it is built by the water and the mountains, with ups and downs. You can overlook the scenery outside the city and the prosperity of the entire urban area.
Although it's called a "city wall," its contours and winding curves make it more like the "Great Wall." Because the mountains in the south are more lush and beautiful, the Great Wall walking through these mountains feels somewhat different from the Great Wall in the north. Historically, Qi Jiguang is believed to have organized the construction of this section before moving to the northern Great Wall to garrison and perform maintenance. It's said that he brought many of the construction practices from this section to the northern Great Wall, effectively connecting the northern and southern Great Walls. The remaining section today encircles most of Linhai Old Town, extending north, west, and south. If you have the time to walk along it, you can enjoy panoramic views of the city from different angles, both inside and beyond. It's truly a wonderful place.
As we hiked along the city wall, the number of tourists gradually increased, though it was never quite constant. The entire section of wall, about six kilometers long, features seven watchtowers. Watchtower No. 2 is labeled as the best photo spot, but the scenery outside the entire section is quite beautiful. Along the way, we'll find historical sites like the Sui camphor tree, the City God Temple, and the Yongzheng Imperial Stele. Walking, exploring, and snapping photos is a truly enjoyable experience. It was early autumn, and the distant mountains were gradually embellishing with color. The weather was beautiful, the temperature was pleasant, and the breeze was gentle—a truly small blessing.
On the second day of National Day, I visited the Taizhou City Wall in Linhai. Early in the morning, I took a bus with two colleagues to Linhai, then took a detour to Duqiao. I have to praise the Linhai bus driver; he was incredibly friendly and patiently explained everything to us, even though we were directionally challenged. In the afternoon, we reached the Jiangnan Great Wall. While the initial steepness of the first section was a bit intimidating, the view from the wall overlooking East Lake was quite pleasant. The entire walk took an hour or two, and it wasn't particularly impressive. After exiting the Great Wall, we arrived at Ziyang Ancient Street, offering a wide selection of antiques, jade artifacts, and snacks.
[Location] There are more than 5,000 meters of Jiangnan Great Wall left. We went to the section near the sea. No charge if you don't climb.
[History] At the end of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, a prefect built the prototype of the Great Wall to defend against peasant uprisings. During the Tang Dynasty, Linhai became the administrative center of Taizhou, and the wall was rebuilt. After liberation, it was dismantled in sections. It wasn't until this year, with awareness of cultural heritage preservation, that the wall was restored.
[Feelings] It was not easy for the ancients to build such a magnificent city wall in Linjiang. It has a very vicissitudes of life.
In the south, I am very satisfied to see the Great Wall left over from ancient times! It is well preserved!
I have been studying in Linhai for 4 years. When it comes to weekend trips to Linhai, the only place I can go is Chonghemen. I also went to the Jiangnan Ancient City for a tour.
I like it from beginning to end, but I can't find any souvenirs.
In Jiangnan, such a city is very rare, which shows the historical background of Linhai since the Tang Dynasty.
The ancient city wall of Linhai, known as the Great Wall of Jiangnan, has a bit of historical charm. After all, Linhai is also one of the first batch of famous historical and cultural cities in China.
I walked a short distance with a local senior. It was quiet and peaceful, perhaps because there was no one around. The moss on the Great Wall was very green.
I wanted to go again later, but because of the ticket requirements, I gave up on it. —2018-07-23
It is also a scenic spot, but the ticket price is quite expensive. Personally, I think you can go and see it when you pass by, after all, it is a real Great Wall site.
The Linhai Ancient City Wall has an inseparable connection with Qi Jiguang, the hero who fought against Japanese invaders. The TV series "Qi Jiguang, the Hero Who Fights Against Japanese Invasion" deepened my understanding of Linhai's place names. Climbing the city tower offers panoramic views of the entire Linhai area. Walking along the wall, climbing one beacon tower after another, I learned about the history of Linhai City and its walls. Known as the Jiangnan Great Wall, the Linhai Ancient City Wall, while not as long as the Great Wall of the North, stretches for thousands of miles, is well-preserved and played a significant role in defending against Japanese invaders.
The Taizhou City Wall, also known as the Jiangnan Great Wall and Jiangnan Badaling, is located in Linhai City, Zhejiang Province, a national historical and cultural city. It is more than 6,000 meters long, with more than 5,000 meters remaining. It starts from Lansheng Gate in the east, meanders along the ridge of Beigushan Mountain to Yanxia Pavilion, and reaches the east bank of Lingjiang River among the steep rocks. It extends to the western foot of Jinshan Mountain, following the terrain and overlooking the river. The northern part is the steepest.
The first step up is quite tiring, but the rest is not so bad. When you walk on the Great Wall, you can see that the tree trunks on both sides are covered with Pennisetum. There is a camphor tree at the exit that looks quite stylish and spiritual.
The total length is very long, so you can walk around casually and treat it as climbing a mountain.

We took the high-speed train from Ningbo to Linhai, then took bus 218 to Donghu Station. It was about a 15-minute walk to the entrance. We booked tickets on Qunar.com and got a 10-yuan discount! We didn't go to Lansheng Gate, so we first walked around Ziyang Ancient Street, then went to Xingshan Gate. The walk back to Lansheng Gate took about two hours. On the way, we passed a plum garden with plum blossoms of various colors, which was breathtaking!
The city wall almost completely surrounded the old Taizhou city, which was not easy.
On December 12, 2017, it took two hours to walk around the place where Qi Jiguang fought against the Japanese pirates, and then we arrived at Ziyang Ancient Street.
On the third day of our trip, the weather suddenly cleared up, and my mood lifted. After waking up early and having breakfast, I followed my guide's instructions, crossing East Lake and heading for the Jiangnan Great Wall. Also known as the Taizhou City Wall and the Jiangnan Badaling, the Jiangnan Great Wall is located in Linhai, Zhejiang Province, a nationally recognized historical and cultural city. It stretches over 6,000 meters, with over 5,000 meters remaining. Starting in the east at Lansheng Gate, it winds along the ridge of Beigu Mountain to Yanxia Pavilion, then cascades down steep cliffs to the eastern bank of the Ling River. It then extends to the western foot of Jinshan Mountain, clinging to the mountain's terrain and overlooking the river. The northern part is the steepest part.
When people think of the Great Wall, they probably only think of the Badaling section in Beijing. It's indeed renowned and a true treasure of the Chinese nation. However, these majestic passes aren't confined to the north. In the beautiful coastal town of Linhai, Taizhou, there's also a long section known as the Jiangnan Great Wall. Unlike the winding section in Beijing, this section is more picturesque. The weather cleared up, and the sun shone warmly on the ground. Today's sunshine felt like a middle-aged man, weathering the vicissitudes of life, watching us children struggle in the world, and occasionally giving us a touch of positive energy with its warmth.
I've loved mountaineering and outdoor activities since I was a child, and climbing the Great Wall is a real passion of mine. Seeing this magnificent wall conquered step by step by my feet makes the current difficulties seem insignificant. Life is essentially a gradual climb. In my 20s, I'm grateful to have experienced occasional setbacks and frustrations, as they propel me towards greater heights. Sometimes I think, while life isn't all about poetry and distant horizons, I hope to live a life that embodies poetry and distant horizons.
Always full of vigor and vitality, always full of enthusiasm.
The Great Wall is famous in the capital, but who knows that there is also a Great Wall in Jiangnan, which was built during the period when Qi Jiguang fought against the Japanese invaders and stretches across the entire Linhai area.
Only the moss growing in the corners of the wall can understand the rain, dew, wind and frost that the wall has experienced.
The number of tourists at the Linhai Great Wall is certainly not as high as that at the Beijing Great Wall, so it is not as noisy.
It is mostly a place for local residents to spend their weekends.
Father and son, walking out on the weekend, ordinary and warm
Exiting the back gate of Taizhou East Lake, you'll find the entrance to the Jiangnan Great Wall directly opposite. Built in the Jin Dynasty and expanded in the Tang Dynasty, the Jiangnan Great Wall served both defensive and flood control functions. It was the site of the Ming Dynasty Qi Family Army's battle against Japanese pirates. The northwest section of the ancient wall, nestled against the mountain, is the steepest and most precipitous, earning it the nickname "Jiangnan Badaling," and is the highlight of the entire scenic area. The Jiangnan Great Wall scenic area concludes at the ancient city gate of Taizhou Prefecture, which is remarkably well-preserved and still in use today.
It felt okay, and I even met a squirrel on the way. We went there at 12 o'clock after dinner. There was no ticket seller at the door, so we walked in.
It's good, although it's short, you can feel the history of old Taizhou
The towering ancient city wall is semicircular in shape. When you first enter, you feel like you are in a maze, but when you walk in, you find that the internal tourist facilities have not been fully built. The whole place looks like the ruins of an ancient battlefield.
While this ancient city wall isn't as elaborate and magnificent as Lijiang Old Town, it's also much less commercial. Inside the wall lies an ancient temple, shrouded in fragrant aromas. Halfway up the mountain, I encountered a devout elderly pilgrim reading the palms of two elderly women traveling with him, which touched my heart.
The Jiangnan Great Wall is located in Linhai, a famous historical and cultural city in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. It was built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It is majestic, winding, and undulating, with a standardized and complete form. It is known as the "model and blueprint for the Ming Great Wall."
A small tour is OK, a half-day trip to the Jiangnan Great Wall, which has historical significance. It is a bit strenuous to go up to the Lansheng Gate.
Linhai City Center, it's a quick taxi ride away. The East Lake is at the door below. The online Feizhu ticket is 49, and the physical store is 50. You need to exchange the ticket at the visitor center at the door before you can enter. Generally, you enter from the door opposite the East Lake and then go down from Ziyang Ancient Street. It's a long walk and requires a certain amount of physical strength.
You must enter from the Lansheng Gate entrance on the East Lake side and exit from Ziyang Street. The entire ancient city wall is the C-shaped wall of the ancient Taizhou Prefecture City. The eastern wall has been demolished, and now only the Chonghe Gate is left as a lonely proof of its existence. The whole journey takes about 3 hours. Lunch is solved on Ziyang Street. Try some snacks and you will be full. If you are not satisfied, you can have a bowl of wheat shrimp. In addition, the introduction of Wang Shiqi in Taizhou is wrong.

Because it is in the city. The river and sky are one color, and the old street is at the foot of the city. It is very convenient
Locals are free of charge while outsiders are charged high prices. This is clearly xenophobic and violates the socialist core values of "fairness and justice". I hope this will be changed, otherwise it will be difficult to form the driving force for sustainable development!
The Jiangnan Great Wall exceeded my expectations. I've visited the Nanjing and Xi'an city walls, and Nanjing's is the best. After all, it was a former capital, and the walls are so high, with a lake on one side, offering stunning views. The Jiangnan Great Wall comes in second, nestled against the mountain. From a high point, you can see the Ling River, East Lake, and Linhai. The Xi'an city wall, located near the train station, is more square, but still lacks in terms of scenery.
The Jiangnan Great Wall, formerly the Taizhou City Wall, also known as Jiangnan Badaling, is considered the model and blueprint for other sections of the Great Wall, including Badaling in Beijing. Originally built during the Eastern Jin Dynasty and rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty by Qi Jiguang, it served as a flood control and defense against enemies. Within the city walls are the Temple of Heaven and the City God Temple. From the city walls, you can walk down to Ziyang Street and try seaweed pancakes (there's a long queue). Some buildings within the city are still under repair, and you can see cars of all sizes entering and exiting the city gates. The entire walk takes about two hours.
City Wall Information: The Taizhou City Wall consists of the main wall, city gates, towers (for defense and observation), wencheng (for encircling and suppressing enemy forces attacking the city gates), moats, bridges, watchtowers (created by Qi Jiguang, spanning both the inner and outer walls, offering ample space to accommodate large numbers of troops and providing shelter from rain and cold, making them ideal for observation, defense, and communication), battlements (protruding platforms on the wall, used by defenders to defend against enemies on three sides), crenels, and parapets. Based on their function and military importance, these defense units can be broadly divided into basic and core defense units. The basic defense units primarily refer to the main wall and moat, while the core defense units primarily include the city gates, towers, wencheng, watchtowers, and watchtowers.
Although it cannot be compared with the Northern Great Wall, it is still worth a walk and has its own significance compared to Linhai.
Speaking of the Jiangnan Great Wall, its official name is Taizhou City Wall, with a total length of more than 6,000 meters, of which more than 5,000 meters are still in existence. After the Mongolian iron-hoofed army that destroyed the Southern Song Dynasty moved south, they ordered the demolition of all the city walls. Only the city wall here survived because it also has flood control functions!
Many northern Great Walls such as Badaling were built based on this model!
All in all, this is a unique Jiangnan Great Wall with mountains, water and scenery, you must visit!
It's a very good place, very nice, but parking is not very convenient and the terrain is too high. Can the problem of elderly people going up the mountain be solved?
The scenery at the doorstep has been visited by classmates. They say it is awesome. The locals don't feel anything anymore.
Looking down at the Chonghemen Square of East Lake from the Range Rover, it was quite tiring to climb the 200 steps in one go.
A must-see. If you're looking for a different experience than the bustling Badaling section in Beijing, the Jiangnan section is the best. It was very quiet when I went, and I took some fantastic photos. I'd love to climb it again in the winter, but it's still so satisfying!
Linhai Ancient Great Wall is also known as Jiangnan Badaling. It is over 6,000 meters long, with more than 5,000 meters remaining. It takes about two to three hours to walk the entire distance. This place is free for Linhai local citizens to enter with their ID cards. There is a cherry blossom garden on the Great Wall. It is not very big, but it is very unique. If you go there, you can take a look. Of course, there are many exits on the Great Wall. If you can't walk anymore, you can exit at any exit. Go down from the entrance and the other end of the Great Wall is Ziyang Ancient Street.
The ancient city wall "Jiangnan Badaling" feels like the Great Wall, and the ancient monuments are well preserved.
I feel that it is quite special to have such a Great Wall in a place like Jiangnan. The ticket is a bit expensive, 65 yuan, and the steps at the entrance are spectacular, but very high. I was scared by the stairs, so I didn't go up. There are ticket offices near Donghu Lake and Ziyang Ancient Street. I heard from netizens that there is also Wengzhong City on the Great Wall, which I still want to see. I will go there next time, but it seems that there is not much to do in Linhai, so it will probably take a long time before I go there.
It feels average, the tickets are expensive, it's just the Jiangnan Earthen Great Wall.
You can buy tickets online. It is a good choice to walk less than half of the ancient Great Wall and then exit and enter Ziyang Ancient Street.
The city wall of Taizhou Prefecture was first built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It has been demolished, rebuilt and repaired many times in history. During the Yuan Dynasty, the city wall of Taizhou Prefecture was spared from demolition due to its important function of preventing floods. In the 51st year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1712), an urn city was built. It is a city wall with dual functions of military defense and flood control.

During the Dragon Boat Festival, our first stop in Linhai was the Jiangnan Great Wall. The 65 yuan ticket wasn't expensive, but considering the scenic area's impressive offerings, it wasn't worth the price. We basically walked about a third of the way and then left the area. Climbing the entire wall was rather tedious. Aside from a few bird's-eye views of the city from the main gate tower, there weren't many other great views. Another reason we turned around after walking a third of the way was because our car was parked at the main gate. If we had walked the entire length, we'd have had to return to the gate to pick up our car, and there was no shuttle bus. It was incredibly inconvenient, and I didn't have the energy to do it. So, unless you're really keen on climbing the Great Wall, I wouldn't recommend this attraction!
Linhai City, the former seat of Taizhou Prefecture, boasts a rich history. Its city walls, built along the mountainside, are well-preserved. A good starting point is Lansheng Gate at East Lake, which takes about two hours to complete. The wall ends at Jinshan Mountain. Walking along the wall, you can admire the majesty of the Great Wall itself, the Lingjiang River, and the picturesque mountains nearby. You can also observe the daily lives of locals, see ancient temples and pagodas like Xinglong Temple, and then, after your visit, head directly to Ziyang Ancient Street and its surrounding attractions. It's well worth a visit.
