The museum is one of the planned attractions for my trip to Hangzhou. The museum of a region is often a concentrated display place for local history and culture. Although I can only have a quick look, it is also good to have a systematic understanding.

The Gushan area of Zhejiang Provincial Museum is located on Gushan, West Lake, Hangzhou. It mainly consists of the main building, Zhejiang West Lake Art Museum and Wenlan Pavilion, the royal library.

The main building has three floors, housing exhibition halls such as the Ceramics Hall, Celadon Hall, and Lacquerware Hall.

The first floor mainly exhibits some pottery, the second floor mainly displays some Yue kiln porcelain, Longquan porcelain, etc., and the third floor is porcelain after the Ming and Qing Dynasties or later. There is a 3D touch panel on each floor, which allows you to view the exhibits from all angles.

The Zhejiang West Lake Art Museum on the east side of Gushan Pavilion mainly displays some calligraphy and painting works, and also has a special exhibition hall.

After entering the gate, I found that some tourists were holding a guide map in their hands. I was smart and did not go directly into the venue like most tourists. Instead, I searched at the entrance and found a free guide map on a display stand. Looking at the few guide maps left, I decided to buy one.

According to the layout of the scenic area on the guide map, we decided to visit the museum from left to right, clockwise.

Let’s start our journey of learning new skills~

My mom is a museum lover and has a tradition of taking her sister to check in at museums. So when I came to the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, I didn't feel anything for the Sikuquanshu in the cabinet of Wenlan Pavilion. If you want to visit this museum, it is recommended to go left from Xiling Bridge and go counterclockwise to see the museum and Gushan. I originally planned to visit Gushan, but I was too tired to go. The collections of the National Treasures are all in the Wulin Pavilion. There is a national first-class treasure here, a cow-shaped lantern. I took a few pictures of my favorite collections. There is an ancient Egyptian exhibition next to it, 30 yuan per person, and there are volunteers who explain very, very, very in detail. If you are not in a hurry, you can really listen to it slowly.

I wasn't too interested so I just took a quick look and left.

However, as soon as I came out, I saw a small door on the side of the museum. Walking through it led directly to an ancient small courtyard. In an instant, it felt like I was traveling through time.

When I saw the plum blossoms by the wall, they instantly overlapped with the impression of Chinese paintings. I didn't expect the house inside to be bigger. After passing through a small door, the further I walked in, the more it felt like I had stepped into the wrong time and space and accidentally entered a stranger's house. It was like the taste of Ah Sheng and Zeng Jing drinking tea in the rain in the Sword Rain Fu Sheng. It was the first time I officially appreciated the beauty of the garden.

Finally, I walked out of the main entrance, which was really wonderful. (It is recommended to visit the museum from the side door, so that you can appreciate it from small to large)

Visiting museums has become an important part of travel.

This time, for our 20th anniversary reunion, we agreed to visit the Zhejiang Provincial Museum. So we arrived in Hangzhou early, and the 4-hour and 40-minute high-speed train took me to the West Lake in the blink of an eye.

Gushan Museum is located in Gushan, West Lake, Hangzhou. It is mainly composed of the main building, Zhejiang West Lake Art Museum and the Royal Library Wenlan Pavilion. The main building has three floors, with exhibition halls such as the Ceramics Hall, Celadon Hall, and Lacquerware Hall. The first floor mainly exhibits some pottery, the second and third floors are mainly porcelain. The second floor is mainly some Yue Kiln porcelain, Longquan porcelain, etc., and the third floor is porcelain after the Ming and Qing Dynasties or later. There are 3D touch panels on each floor, which can be viewed from all directions.

There are curved corridors on both sides of Wenlan Pavilion in the west, and a moon gate in the east leading to Taiyi Fenqing Room and Luohan Hall. Further east is Leifeng Pagoda Cultural Relics Museum, which displays a large number of Leifeng Pagoda-related pictures. Then visit Huang Binhong Art Museum, Chang Shuhong Art Museum, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty Lacquerware Art Exhibition and other exhibition halls, and go south out of the main gate back to Gushan Road. It turns out that the above exhibition halls are all affiliated with Zhejiang Provincial Museum.

By Snowball Dance |

Zhejiang Provincial Museum was founded in 1929 and was originally named "West Lake Museum.

Located on the southern foot of Gushan Mountain in West Lake, Hangzhou, it has picturesque scenery and pleasant views.

It is adjacent to many scenic spots such as Broken Bridge with Snow, Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake and Yue Tomb.

By Ji Yue |

There are quite a lot of people here. I am personally interested in porcelains from the Qing Dynasty official kilns.

Thanks to the integrity of the people of Hangzhou. We were reminded many times during the trip not to trust the black tour guides. We also met local people who kindly reminded us when we were on a cruise on West Lake. The locals are brave and kind.

By Annie without a point |

The exhibition area of Gushan Pavilion is not very large, but there are many exquisite and interesting collections, such as various lacquerware and porcelain, including Zhejiang's famous celadon, and Wenlan Pavilion, one of the seven royal libraries in the Qing Dynasty that houses the Siku Quanshu.

2020.10.7 The Gushan branch of the Zhejiang Provincial Museum is a highlight of our trip to West Lake. The porcelain here is very exquisite and pleasing to the eye;

By Heavy rain causes flooding |

It took most of the day to walk around the lake and pass by the Zhejiang Provincial Museum. I didn’t have time to go in and take a leisurely tour, so I just checked in at the entrance.

This museum is located on the Bai Causeway and is free to enter. The museum is not large, with a total of 3 floors. The third floor is filled with various colored porcelains, which are exquisite and beautiful and worth appreciating.

By West Wind Red |

On the shore of West Lake, in an old museum, the contents are not very rich. Could it be that many things have been moved to the Wulin Square Pavilion of Zhejiang Museum? The Jade Cong King is in the Wulin Pavilion. But it is close to West Lake, so you can take a stroll.

By A Hao can't get fat |

Gushan Museum is located at the foot of Gushan Mountain by the West Lake. It is an older museum. The front entrance doesn't look very special, but there are still some things to see inside.

By lilypoon |

Gushan Pavilion mainly houses the remains of the emperor's palace and royal libraries, lacquerware from the Song, Ming and Qing dynasties, Huang Binhong's works of art, and ancient pottery.

By Good night Beijing |

The provincial capital museum is of a very high standard, and the decoration of the Hangzhou-style rooms is also very good.

By Oscarcalla |

Only porcelain, only porcelain, only porcelain! Important things should be said three times. It is on Gushan Road, connected to the West Lake Museum. There are not many categories and not many fine products.

By Little Yunyun is white and fat |

Zhejiang Museum has two major areas: Gushan and Wulin. We went to the Gushan Pavilion near the West Lake and only visited three parts of the exhibition hall, namely: Wenlan Heritage (Wenlan Pavilion of the Complete Library in Four Branches of Literature), Ruixiang Chongming (Leifeng Pagoda Cultural Relics Exhibition) and Kunshan Pianyu (Chinese Ancient Ceramics Exhibition).

By Terran |

Located on the edge of West Lake, the museum is divided into six halls and admission is free.

By Drifting cypress |

We visited Gushan Museum, Zhejiang West Lake Art Museum, Wenlan Pavilion, Lacquerware Museum, Leifeng Pagoda Cultural Relics Museum, Huang Binhong Memorial Room, Chang Shuhong Art Museum, etc. There are rich exhibits and it is worth a visit.

The exhibits in the lacquerware museum are beautiful.

Unfortunately, we didn't see the authentic "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains" in the art museum. According to the staff, it is on exhibition only for five months a year, from December to April of the following year, and the rest of the time it is collected for protection.

By July 🎸 |

Gushan Museum is the old museum, located on Gushan Mountain beside the West Lake. Although Zhejiang Museum is a bit watery, the Yuedi Treasures are really beautiful. Most of the national treasures of Zhejiang are here.

By Xu Xiang's perspective |

I was walking from the Broken Bridge when I was feeling hot and tired. It was wonderful that there was a provincial-level museum that was free of charge. I could broaden my horizons and enjoy the air conditioning for free.

By Yuebao |

Zhejiang Provincial Museum is located at No. 25 Gushan, Hangzhou. Recently, there are Wuyue exhibits on display.

By Sika |

The Zhejiang Museum mainly exhibits porcelain from various periods. I prefer blue and white porcelain and monochrome glaze, which are pure and elegant in color. But my mother likes the porcelain from the Qing Dynasty, which has richer and more intense colors and looks more magnificent. There were also many porcelain kilns in Zhejiang in ancient times. On the other side of the museum is the Zhejiang Art Museum.

By Yuyu Dome |

Museums in every place can give you a more comprehensive understanding of the local culture and history. If time permits and you want to explore a place more thoroughly, then going to the museum first to learn about the local historical background is a desirable approach.

For example, in the Hangzhou Museum, you can learn about the evolution of Hangzhou from Liangzhu, Wuyue, Song, Jin, Ming and Qing dynasties. After a brief understanding, when you visit the West Lake, you can not only appreciate the beautiful scenery, but also learn more about the historical evolution and stories behind it.

By Weekly |

Zhejiang Museum is located on Gushan Mountain in the West Lake Scenic Area. It is relatively small and condensed. It is still very small compared to Shanghai Museum. Next to it, there is a Yuedi Treasure that requires a 30 yuan ticket. In short, it is worth a visit. Especially the Xiling Seal Society on Gushan Mountain, seal carving enthusiasts must come to pay homage 😂

By Qingqing |

As someone who loves visiting museums, I have never visited the Zhejiang Provincial Museum every year when I come to Hangzhou! I walked along the Broken Bridge that day and accidentally discovered the museum. There is also an art gallery next to it. The main building is very similar to the Shaanxi Provincial Museum, with a pointed roof and antique style. At first I thought there was only this exhibition hall. From 3:30 to 4:30, I visited a porcelain exhibition with 4 floors. The characteristics of porcelain from various dynasties were introduced in detail. Later I found that I could listen to the introduction by downloading the app and WeChat. I was too rushed that day. All other museums were closed at 4:30. I will definitely come again next time! My colleagues and I bought some commemorative coins at the door by ourselves. They were very delicate!

After watching the National Treasure, I developed an unprecedented interest in museums and cultural relics, so I went in with my bestie. As a result, I found myself a little lost inside. I heard an old man and his companions introducing the cultural relics one by one, and I thought that I would be able to understand them better if someone explained them to me.

By 盧澤鎧 |

For me, every time I go to a place, I must visit the local museum. No matter in Shanxi where cultural relics are everywhere, or in the highly developed Shanghai, museums have deeply attracted me. It is also the best place to understand local culture. I went to Gushan Museum on the second day in Hangzhou. I did enough homework before going there and only picked out the important things to see. I basically took a quick look at the junk in the ceramic museum. The fine products of Longquan Kiln upstairs are worth savoring. The equipment in the whole museum is relatively old. Maybe it’s because I went on a weekday. There were not many people and the security check was simple. I didn’t need to go through the machine. There were relatively few things, so I just tried to pick out the important things to see.

By Dark |

Zhejiang Provincial Museum is just beside Pinghu Qiuyue. When we went there, there was an ancient porcelain exhibition. When we came out, we scanned the code at the commemorative coin machine outside and bought a set of commemorative coins (collection maniac Bao was super happy!!). 20 yuan each, a set of 5 for 100 yuan, worth it! Happy!

By Happy Lou Xiansen |

A few years ago, "National Treasure" was very popular, and the Zhejiang Provincial Museum was one of them. Whenever I go to a city, the final stop is definitely the Provincial Museum. Moreover, there is usually water next to the Provincial Museum, such as the Hubei Provincial Museum next to the East Lake; the Kaifeng Municipal Museum next to the Baohe River; the Jiangxi Provincial Museum next to the Fuhe River; the Zhejiang Provincial Museum Gushan District has the West Lake, and the Wulin District is next to the Grand Canal...

The Gushan Museum is mainly composed of ceramics and lacquerware, as well as the underground palace treasures of Leifeng Pagoda. The cultural relics are mostly from the Sun Wu and the Two Jin Dynasties. It is the core area of the Southern Dynasties, and there are many famous kilns in Zhejiang Province. Laymen watch the excitement, while experts see the doorway. The pottery like the following is funerary objects. There are so many kinds of prosperous shapes on it. I saw it in Hubei Provincial Museum before, and I was surprised that the Three Kingdoms liked to make it like this. This time, I came here without looking at the label and thought it must be from the Three Kingdoms, or the Wu Kingdom...

After the Three Kingdoms came the Jin Dynasty, which continued and developed, and there were also many such granary designs. Perhaps because of the frequent wars during the Three Kingdoms period, the people all hoped to have enough granaries, and would rather be a dog in peace than a man in chaos.

After the Western Jin Dynasty finally unified China, the Eight Kings Rebellion, the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and the Five Barbarians Invasion of China occurred again. The wars lasted longer than the Three Kingdoms, which gave rise to such artifacts. (Personal conjecture, for reference only)

It's smaller than expected, and there aren't many collections.

By China-TravelNote users |

I went there to see the latest National Treasure. In the entire Gushan Museum, only the porcelain and lacquerware halls are amazing. The collections of the National Treasure are in another hall. There are still many people. From January 31, 2017, Wenlan Pavilion was closed, and the four scenic spots including Luohan Hall in the picture are not accessible. And the opening date is to be determined. The West Lake Museum charges an entrance fee of 30 yuan. The other halls are free. Now the printer is broken, and the free bookmarks that were originally given can't be printed. However, there are 3D displays of cultural relics in the museum, and each hall also has projections to introduce the production of cultural relics. Great!

By ceciwu |

We came here accidentally in the West Lake scenic area of the museum. The museum is a courtyard-style building with Jiangnan characteristics, but it feels that there are not many exhibits inside, and I don’t know what other areas of the museum will be like.

Zhejiang Provincial Museum was founded in 1929 and was originally named "Zhejiang Provincial West Lake Museum". It is the largest comprehensive humanities museum in Zhejiang Province that integrates collection, display and research. It has a collection of more than 100,000 cultural relics. Among them are pottery, lacquerware, woodware, boneware and ivory products of Hemudu culture, jade and silk products of Liangzhu culture; bronze ware of Yue State, celadon from Yue Kiln, Longquan Kiln, Southern Song Dynasty official kiln, Kuaiji ancient bronze mirror and Huzhou ancient bronze mirror; works of Zhejiang calligraphers and painters in Ming and Qing Dynasties, etc., all of which are well-known cultural treasures.

By Little Bearded Uncle |

After walking along the Bai Causeway, you will enter the Lonely Mountain. Yes, it is the same Lonely Mountain guarded by Smaug in The Hobbit. There are treasures on both sides. The treasures of The Hobbit are guarded by Smaug, while the treasures on the West Lake are kept by the Zhejiang Museum (Gushan Branch).

Zhejiang Provincial Museum (Gushan Branch) has a lot of porcelain, a special collection of Leifeng Pagoda, some celebrity paintings and calligraphy, and lacquerware donated by Hong Kong collectors. The exhibits of Zhejiang Museum cannot be said to be particularly good, but the way of interacting with the audience is very unique. Computers and sound and light effects are used to make a lot of effects, so that the audience can better integrate. In addition, it is very interesting to scan the WeChat QR code to get the bookmarks printed on the spot.

Pay attention, don't think that you have finished visiting Zhejiang Museum after visiting here. In fact, nine of the ten most treasured pieces of Zhejiang Museum are in Wulin Branch. You must go there. If I hadn't accidentally searched Baidu before going to bed, I would have missed it. Oh, by the way, Fuchun Mountain Residence is in Wulin Branch, but what we can see should be a replica.

By The Son of Heaven |

How should I put it? Zhejiang Provincial Museum really doesn't have many cultural relics to see. Only the Leifeng Pagoda Exhibition Hall is a bit interesting. The most interesting thing is that there is a self-service bookmark printer there. Just scan it with WeChat, follow the Provincial Museum's official account, and choose the pattern you like, and it will help you make a bookmark! Bookmarks can be said to be the biggest gain of this trip to the Provincial Museum!

By Museums in China |

In October 2012, Mr. and Mrs. Cao generously donated 161 pieces (sets) of precious ancient Chinese lacquerware from their collection to the Zhejiang Provincial Museum for permanent collection.

When I walked into the Zhejiang Museum, I was a little confused. I just walked in without buying a ticket? After all, provincial museums across the country were not free at that time, and the Zhejiang Museum was ahead of the curve in this regard. I felt that the entire museum was not big, and I walked through it in a short time, and I didn't see many treasures.

By Li Yishao |

I visited several places in Zhejiang Provincial Museum, and the exhibits seemed to be just so-so. A little disappointed, not as good as Hubei Provincial Museum. They should also work hard on the application of modern technology. The historical documentary produced by 3D animation seemed to be just so-so.

Gushan Pavilion is located at the southern foot of Gushan Mountain. It consists of the main building, Zhejiang West Lake Art Museum and the royal library Wenlan Pavilion. It mainly exhibits pottery and lacquerware of Hemudu culture, jade and silk fabrics of Liangzhu culture; bronzes of Yue State; works of Zhejiang calligraphers and painters in Ming and Qing Dynasties, etc. The main building has three floors, with exhibition halls such as Ceramics Hall, Celadon Hall and Lacquer Hall. The first floor mainly exhibits some pottery, the second and third floors are mainly porcelain. The second floor is mainly some Yue Kiln porcelain, Longquan porcelain, etc., and the third floor is porcelain after Ming and Qing Dynasties or later. Zhejiang West Lake Art Museum on the east side of Gushan Pavilion mainly displays some calligraphy and painting works. There are also two special exhibition halls: Huang Binhong Calligraphy and Painting Hall and Lv Xiaguang Art Museum for visiting. In addition, the main building of the museum and West Lake Art Museum will hold different temporary exhibitions from time to time every year. Wenlan Pavilion on the west side is one of the seven pavilions that treasured the "Siku Quanshu" in the Qing Dynasty.

The museum is not very big, but the humanities inside are still worth seeing

By Guilty |

For a museum lover, the Zhejiang Provincial Museum is quite unique. There is a glass exhibition hall in the basement. The products inside are very beautiful and very European in style.

By Water Sky |

Zhejiang Provincial Museum (Gushan District) is the old building of Zhejiang Provincial Museum, located on the side of Gushan, West Lake. After the establishment of the new building, the exhibitions of the old building have been greatly adjusted. The main permanent exhibitions include the exhibition of ancient Chinese ceramics, the exhibition of cultural relics unearthed from Leifeng Pagoda, the exhibition of lacquerware from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, and the exhibition of Huang Binhong. Personally, I think the most interesting one is the exhibition of cultural relics unearthed from Leifeng Pagoda, which mainly displays cultural relics and photos unearthed from the underground palace of Leifeng Pagoda, which is very exquisite.

By Wang Da is confused and has a poor sense of direction |

The museum itself is not very big, and the collections are not very large. The exhibits are mostly various types of porcelain. Compared with many large museums, the layout of this museum can only be said to be quite standard. To be honest, there is nothing particularly dazzling.

By China-TravelNote users |

You can get bookmarks for free, they are very big and have a lot of things to read

By chemical sugar |

The museum has three floors, mainly displaying ancient Chinese ceramics. Each type of ceramics shows the culture of that dynasty. The workmanship ranges from simple and rough to fine, and the colors range from single to rich, all of which show the wisdom of the ancient Chinese people. It's worth a visit!

By Liszt |

The Huang Binhong exhibition hall of the Zhejiang Museum has original works on display, detailed and well-organized introductions, and WeChat voice explanations, which kept me there for nearly four hours. It is the most praise-worthy museum I have visited in China.

The lacquerware gallery of Zhejiang Museum has many fine pieces, and some of them were generously donated by Cao Qiyong and his wife, which are truly worth appreciating carefully.

By Strong Heart |

Not only is Wenlan Pavilion worth recommending, but Mr. Huang Binhong's exhibition is also great! The important thing is that you can print bookmarks in the museum as a travel souvenir, creative!

I just happened to pass by and went in. It's a free classic.

I went there on New Year's Day 2016. There were a lot of people by the West Lake. I like visiting museums the most. The exhibits are very rich and they also give away bookmarks.

It is right by the West Lake, near Baidi Bridge, very nice.

Zhejiang Provincial Museum If you like museums, you must come here once. There is wireless in the museum and you can get bookmarks for free🔖

By arielvv |

The whole museum is connected by corridors. On each corridor, there are uncles sleeping on the corridor with their clothes unzipped and their bellies sticking out, and children noisily feeding the fish pond. Oh my god!!! Also, the toilets are dirtier and smellier than those in the long-distance bus station!!!

By Rice |

It was closed when I passed by, but after all, it is a provincial museum and it is by the West Lake, so it won't be a big deal.

The Gushan Museum of Zhejiang Museum is located at the southern foot of Gushan, West Lake, Hangzhou. It is adjacent to Baidi Causeway and Pinghu Qiuyue Scenic Spot in the east and Xiling Seal Society in the west. It was my first time here and I didn’t have a ticket. Generally speaking, I didn’t see too many precious cultural relics in the collection. It mainly introduces the local characteristics through the historical and cultural heritage of Hangzhou and Zhejiang. There are not many tourists, so I can take a look at it with peace of mind. Some porcelains are quite exquisite, but they are a world of difference compared to the National Museum. Fortunately, I feel very rewarding from the perspective of appreciation. Time is limited, so I can only take a quick look. I will come again if I have the chance. This is a place worth visiting again.

By Water Spirit in the Valley |

The museum is just so-so. My friend wants to go. My favorite is the museum in Nanjing, which has a wide range of history from ancient times to the present. The museum in Suzhou is also okay.

By StandardChang |

The Gushan Museum is a branch of the Zhejiang Museum, and the main museum is still in the Wulin Museum. It mainly displays porcelain, Kunshan jade pieces, and occasional Longquan kilns.

By Caroline Momo |

The first place we saw was the Zhejiang Provincial Museum (Gushan District). Most of the museum should have moved to the new district, and only some ceramic exhibitions were left here.

By Reed in the Rain |

The Gushan section of the Provincial Museum is located at the southern foot of Gushan Mountain, the last stop accessible by motor vehicles on Gushan Road.

Therefore, you can get there by bus, driving, public bicycle (there is a station in Gushan), or walking.

It is open to the public free of charge and I have been there several times.

No need to go through security check, easy entry.

Tourists often take a rest on the corridor in front of the exhibition hall. Next to it is a pond filled with koi fish, which gives the illusion of a release pond.

There doesn’t seem to be any special exhibitions at Gushan Pavilion, perhaps to limit the flow of people.

The permanent exhibition is mainly about ceramic culture, and the exhibits are quite nice to watch.

There are also some audio-visual interactions that you can play.

Zhejiang Museum has a new building, so it is divided into two places. I only found the old museum, which has a small collection, and the porcelain is mainly celadon.

This was the first time I felt the inconvenience of traveling during the off-season. Many parts of the Provincial Museum were under repair, or more professionally called exhibition hall adjustments, so I only saw an exhibition about Longquan Kiln and Ge Kiln and left reluctantly.

The museum is located on Gushan, the only natural island on the West Lake. It was originally the West Lake Museum. There is another area of the Zhejiang Museum which is not here, but near the West Lake Cultural Plaza on Zhongshan North Road.

By Can't find me |

This was the first sad place we encountered. The main exhibition hall was upgraded, so we basically didn't see anything. However, for those of us who don't have a solid foundation, museums are a pity not to see them, and even if we do, we won't be able to see the tricks. =_=

Passing by the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, as a history lover, I went in to have a look... I didn't want to take photos, so I just looked at them one by one, but when I saw this, I felt that the standard plate for the big plate chicken should be this one, otherwise I would be sorry for the people...

Next to the West Lake Museum is the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, which is open to the public free of charge and exhibits porcelain from different periods.

Zhejiang Provincial Museum is worth a visit. When I went there, I was lucky enough to encounter the bronze mirror collection exhibition held by the National Bronze Mirror Collection Association. I saw many exquisite bronze mirrors and gold and silver mirrors! !
