
勐梭龙潭是一个天然的热带雨林淡水湖泊,位于勐梭龙潭自然保护区中段,县城南侧。湖面海拔1170米,四周林翠山青、环境清幽、山峦叠障、碧水粼粼、水映山城、景色秀丽。水域面积46.7公顷(约700亩),南北长740米,东西长1000米;潭水最深处37.8米,平均水深11.5米,蓄水量500多万立方。勐梭龙潭属断层陷落湖泊,南岸和西岸悬崖峭壁,东岸和北岸地势平缓,龙潭水源主要来源于湖泊底部的地下水,以及山涧小溪和地表积水。
龙潭中碧水粼粼,波平如镜,仙鹤起落,野鸭成群,湖边苔藓遍地。龙潭水面上,人们不见有落叶,传说是多情的姑娘变成了小鸟,守在湖边,衔走了落入水中的每一片树叶,以保持情人清洁的面目不受破坏。
此外,勐梭龙潭与境外35公里之遥的缅甸龙潭水脉相通,同清同浑,齐涨齐落的奇观被佤族兄弟赋予“姐妹龙潭”、“夫妻龙潭”的美称,更增添了景观的趣味性和吸引力。
