勐梭龙潭是一个天然的热带雨林淡水湖泊，位于勐梭龙潭自然保护区中段，县城南侧。湖面海拔1170米，四周林翠山青、环境清幽、山峦叠障、碧水粼粼、水映山城、景色秀丽。水域面积46.7公顷（约700亩），南北长740米，东西长1000米；潭水最深处37.8米，平均水深11.5米，蓄水量500多万立方。勐梭龙潭属断层陷落湖泊，南岸和西岸悬崖峭壁，东岸和北岸地势平缓，龙潭水源主要来源于湖泊底部的地下水，以及山涧小溪和地表积水。

龙潭中碧水粼粼，波平如镜，仙鹤起落，野鸭成群，湖边苔藓遍地。龙潭水面上，人们不见有落叶，传说是多情的姑娘变成了小鸟，守在湖边，衔走了落入水中的每一片树叶，以保持情人清洁的面目不受破坏。

此外,勐梭龙潭与境外35公里之遥的缅甸龙潭水脉相通，同清同浑，齐涨齐落的奇观被佤族兄弟赋予“姐妹龙潭”、“夫妻龙潭”的美称，更增添了景观的趣味性和吸引力。
