熊野古道位于日本本州纪伊半岛南部，全长1000多公里，横跨和歌山、三重、奈良三县，沿途包括散布于崇山峻岭间的熊野本宫大社等多处神社和寺庙，以及通往这些宗教建筑群的5段古道。

熊野古道主要指以下的5条道路：纪伊路（渡边津-田边）小边路（高野山-熊野三山、约70km）中边路（田边-熊野三山）大边路（田边-串本-熊野三山、约120km）伊势路（伊势神宫-熊野三山、约160km）

其中多在2000年以“熊野参诣道”指定为国之史迹，在2004年以“纪伊山地的灵场和参拜道”之一部登录为联合国教科文组织的世界遗产。但是，登录不含纪伊路。
