广东连平黄牛石自然保护区地处粤北九连山脉，连平县北部。保护区属中低山山地，四周山峰连绵，山体雄奇，最高峰黄牛石顶海拔1430米，是粤东北最高峰。区内溪流众多，起伏跌岩，大小瀑布十几座。保护区地质构造较古老，属中生代燕山期花岗岩，伴生有金属矿床。

区内森林茂密，属天然次生阔叶林，珍贵森林植物和野生动物种类很多，迄今发现的国家一级重点保护植物1种，二级12种，一级重点保护野生动物4种，二级10种，是植物宝库，动物乐园。
