Liandan Lake, located in Tianzhushan World Geopark, was originally Liangyaoping, where Zuo Ci of the Han Dynasty refined elixirs. It is also the site of " Alchemy Stove Smoke , " one of Qianyang's Ten Scenic Spots. Designated Liandan Lake in 1998 , it sits at an altitude of 1,100 meters and is China's third-largest alpine artificial lake. The lake's shimmering waves and mountain reflections create a myriad of dramatic scenes. Sometimes, clouds curl over the surface, and young men and women row boats, seemingly transported to a fairyland. Other times, the lake is as smooth as a mirror, with the blue sky and peaks reflected in the water's depths, leaving visitors reluctant to paddle.
Beneath the tranquil surface of " Liandan Lake , " before the lake was built, was known as " Liangyaoping " or " Shangliandan . " Zuo Ci, a Taoist monk in the late Han Dynasty, collected herbs and refined elixirs here, which is why the lake is named " Liandan Lake ." The " Liandan Room " where Zuo Ci lived and the " Liandan Platform " where he started his alchemy furnace are still there.
From the " Alchemy Terrace , " one can gaze around and see the peaks of Xiguan, each a vivid sight, like a plume of falling water, a treasured moon like tin, its pearl about to drop, and the Pillar of Heaven within sight. Lion Peak towers to the left, Azure Dragon's Back lies to the right, the Dengxian Dagu Peaks lie to the east, and Unicorn Horn, Fupen, and Yingzhen Peaks stand to the south. From far and near, one can fully appreciate the beauty of Tianzhu Mountain.
