Originally known as the "Lanzhou Yellow River Iron Bridge," it was later renamed Zhongshan Bridge. Its construction materials were shipped from Germany to Tianjin by sea in 1907, then transported from Tianjin to Lanzhou by the Gansu Foreign Affairs Bureau. The bridge's construction was led by Tianjin native Liu Yongqi, who completed it over three years, earning it the nickname "the world's first bridge across the Yellow River."
