Baiyuanchuan Pond is located in Licheng District, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province. The moats of Quanzhou's ancient Luocheng and Zicheng districts converged over time to form a crisscrossing drainage system known as the "Eight Diagrams Ditch." Baiyuanchuan Pond is one of the drainage system's reservoirs, its water flowing directly to Tumen, symbolizing the "hundred rivers tracing their source." In the northwest corner stands the Bronze Buddha Temple, housing several bronze Buddha statues cast in the 17th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. Their solemn forms and lifelike expressions are evident. The Overseas Chinese Building and the Workers' Cultural Palace flank the pond to its east and west, and pavilions and curved bridges dot the waters.
Quanzhou City originally had seven gates: East Gate, South Gate, West Gate, North Gate, Tu Gate, Water Gate, and New Gate. These gates are now destroyed. In the 12th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1352), the prefect Qi Yu built the Southern Tuoluo City to connect with the Wing City. The former southern moat became the inner moat of the city, and stone bridges were built across it to facilitate travel. Of the original 24 bridges, only eight remain.
