The Zigong Shenhai Well is located at the foot of Ruanjiaba Mountain in Da'an District, covering an area of ​​3 mu (approximately 1.5 acres) at an altitude of 341.4 meters. Drilling began in 1835, the 15th year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty, and took 13 years to complete. The well is 1,001.42 meters deep and produces both brine and natural gas.

In March 2018, Shenhaijing Scenic Area was officially promoted to a national 4A-level tourist attraction.
