Hedong Park is located on Chenglin Road in Hedong District, across the road from the SOS Children's Village. Construction began in early 1995 and officially opened to the public on August 1, 1997. Spanning 100,000 square meters, the park boasts 1,643 trees, including Sophora japonica, Fraxinus chinensis, and Plantain trees, and 4,506 others, including Crape Myrtle, Goldenrod, and Pearlbush.

The park boasts a sunken fountain plaza, unique to northern China, covering 9,500 square meters and boasting a 2-meter drop. The amusement park also features a large Ferris wheel, a two-person flying airplane, bumper cars, roller skating rink, electric trains, electric swings, and battery-powered cars. Over 200 ornamental pigeons were purchased in 1998, adding to the park's joyful and peaceful atmosphere. A new swimming pool, built last year on the south side of the park, boasts a 2,000-square-meter surface area.
