The Hainan Railway Museum, located on Binhainan Road in Basuo Town, Dongfang City, Hainan Province, occupies the former site of the Hainan Railway Corporation. It is divided into indoor and outdoor areas. The indoor area features pictures and historical documents showcasing the arduous journey of Hainan Railway's over 40 years of centralized management. The outdoor area features a Jianshe steam locomotive manufactured in 1986 and an ND2 diesel locomotive manufactured in Romania in 1984.
Railway and locomotive enthusiasts will surely be drawn to this area, home to the "Meiling" special train from the Republic of China era and China's first mainline locomotive. Each old steam locomotive and each creaking track bears witness to the difficult years of the old western Hainan Railway. Although no longer in operation, they silently record the development of Hainan Railway since the 1930s.
