
Wencheng County, which belongs to Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is located in the southern mountainous area of Zhejiang Province, southwest of Wenzhou City, and in the middle and upper reaches of Feiyun River. It has a subtropical marine monsoon climate zone with warm and humid weather all year round and distinct four seasons.
Wencheng County was named after the posthumous title of Liu Bowen, a founding father of the Ming Dynasty. In December 1946, Wencheng County was established. In September 1981, the city-county system was implemented, placing Wencheng County under the jurisdiction of Wenzhou City.
Wencheng County boasts a forest coverage rate exceeding 72%, and its air quality exceeds national first-class standards. The Feiyun River's water quality ranks first among Zhejiang Province's eight major river systems, serving as a vital water source for Wenzhou's 5 million residents. It has been designated a Chinese Longevity Town and a National Ecological County. It boasts one 5A-rated scenic spot (the Liu Bowen Hometown), three 4A-rated scenic spots, and eight 3A-rated scenic spots, as well as the Liuji Temple, a nationally protected cultural relic, and the Taigong Sacrifice and Liu Bowen Legend, both nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage sites.
