Li Garden is located in Beiyi Township, Tangkou Town, Kaiping City, facing west to east. It was built by Mr. Xie Weili, a Chinese overseas in the United States from Tangkou Town in the 1920s . It combines the style of Chinese gardens with the Western style of European and American architecture and took ten years to build.
Its biggest feature is the deliberate excavation of many wide, deep and connected canals, which connect the villa area, large garden area and small garden area. The canals are dotted with long corridors, small bridges, pavilions and terraces.
Liyuan's well-preserved artworks include large-scale colorful murals by folk artists of the late Qing Dynasty, gilded wood carvings, gray sculptures, and ceramic statues, as well as sanitary ware and water supply systems imported from the United States. The garden's buildings include the "Liyuan" archway, the "Xiu Shen Li Ben" archway, and the four bridge pavilions (Wanxiang, Wanshui, Guanlan, and Yucui). The ancient Roman-style "Bird's Nest" and the birdcage-shaped "Flower Vine Pavilion" are all exquisitely crafted and unique.
