After the Qin Dynasty conquered the Chu State, it became a key city where successive kings established their capitals. Jingzhou City was first built in the Eastern Han Dynasty, initially as an earthen fortress. A brick fortress was constructed during the Southern Song Dynasty, demolished in the early Yuan Dynasty, rebuilt in the early Ming Dynasty, and destroyed in the late Ming Dynasty. The current city wall, rebuilt in 1646 during the third year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty, is nearly 9 meters high and 10 meters thick, with a circumference of 11.03 kilometers, extending from east to west and shortening from north to south. The city walls, gates, watchtowers, and battlements are all well-preserved. It is a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Site.
